The physical backdrop of the Zuhair Murad Spring 2014 Couture show was the perfect definition of the collection, a pastel colored English garden. The bright Easter palette of white, gold, pink, aqua, lavender, with hints of black made this collection one of the most spring like that came down the runways in Paris last week. A range of silhouettes from pants,to cocktail ensembles and body con gowns to ballgowns will allow for a bevy of different types of women to grab this collection and make for perfect red carpet moments from everything from the Oscars to the Cannes Film Festival. I can see Blake Lively, Kate Beckinsale, Kristen Bell, Eva Longoria, Anna Kendrick, Dita von Teese, Jennifer Lopez, Elizabeth Banks, Emmy Rossum, Taylor Swift, Julianne Hough, Paula Patton, Lupita Nyong’o, Nina Dobrev, Anna Kendrick, Freida Pinto, Naomie Harris, Fan Bingbing, Zhang Ziyi, among others taking to the red carpet on the red carpet. Bellow are my four favorite looks from the collection (it was really hard to narrow down to four) and the runway video.
As everyone that consistently reads this blog will know I have an absolute obsession with the two ladies that are featured in today’s post. I am probably stretching expecting that these ladies will take to the red carpet for the premiere of ‘The Galapagos Affair: Satan Came to Eden’ which is a documentary and these ladies only appearance in the film comes via voice over narration. If Cate Blanchett does end up taking to the red carpet at the premiere for this film I would love to see her wear this cream and gold Valentino Fall 2013 Couture long sleeved gown with a train that extends from the upper back. This gown makes me think of chic 1960’s socialites and I think that Cate would just rock the hell out of this classic gown. Finish the look with a chic updo, simple glam makeup, and a pair of gold sandals will make this gown just sing for the red carpet at the Berlin Film Festival.
I also have an obession with Diane Kruger. The German actress, who acts as her own stylist, always is consistant on the red carpet giving me the best possbible looks that she always works to the extreme. In 2012 when Diane was the token fashionista on the jury of the Cannes Film Festival we had atleast one stunning red carpet look from the actress a day for the 14 days the festival went on. I think that if she takes to the red carpet for this premiere at the Berlin International Film Festival, Diane should wear this amazing black Maxime Simoens Pre-Fall 2014 gown with black fur sleeves. There are almost no women in Hollywood that would be able to pull this look off sleeves and all. Diane works the most couture styles on the red carpet, and she has the attitude and presence to pull off this gown. A simple black clutch, a red lip, and black Christian Louboutin pumps will be all that is needed to finish off this look for the film festival’s red carpet.
Alexis Mabille was one of my absolute favorite collections presented during Paris Haute Couture Fashion Week. The collection was elegant and classic and stripped down, which made it all about the 23 looks. 1 cocktail dress, 1 jumpsuit/coat ensemble, and 21 gowns made up the glamorous collection which saw models slowly walking through two different salons letting editors, stylists, and clients see the stunning details on a more personal level than those of Chanel, Christian Dior, and Versace. Mint, peach, white, cream, beige, gold, grey, robins egg blue, and pastel yellow made up the looks which looked like a nod to an art deco take on the frame of a goddess. I can see the socialite clients of Alexis Mabille swarming to snatch up these looks and I am hoping that we will see a lot of this collection on the red carpet in the coming months. Bellow you see my four favorite yet to be seen on the red carpet looks.
I was most enamored with this white cape gown with a keyhole neckline and a crystal belt. Last Friday night, even though I had mentally reserved this gown for Cate Blanchett, Lady Gaga wore this gown to the Musicares Person of the Year gala honoring Carole King and looked the best that I think I have ever seen her look.
It seems like every film festival has one lovely lady on its jury that knows how to work a red carpet and look fabulous and this year a the Berlin International Film Festival it is red carpet newcomer Greta Gerwig. We first saw Greta take to the red carpet at the 2012 Met Ball in Prabal Gurung and she has continued to grow. Near the end of last year Giorgio Armani held one of his ‘One Night Only’ events in New York City and showcased looks from each of his Armani Prive collections. Greta was amongst a host of celebrities that were seated front row at the event. I am hoping that we will see Greta snatch up a look from the recently presented Armani Prive Spring 2014 Couture collection. This has to be one of my absolute favorite Armani collections to date and I am so excited to see it on the red carpet. Greta should add a pair of navy peep toe satin pumps, a navy clutch, some stunning Chopard diamonds, and her hair worn in old Hollywood waves over one shoulder to finish off this look that would be perfect for a big Berlin Film Fest premiere.
Now I do not think that we will go the 10 days of the Berlin International Film Festival without seeing a Christian Dior gown take to the red carpet. Last year Dior gowns were all over EVERY red carpet including every single major film festival. As a jury member I think that will see Greta wear a look from the house that seems to have been whoring itself out. This color blocked gown from the Christian Dior Spring 2013 Couture collection is what I can picture Greta wearing as she cantors down the red carpet. This is one of the few gowns that didn’t make it to the red carpet from the Spring 2013 Couture collection and I am sure that we will eventually see it take to a red carpet. The gown needs simple styling like a gold Edie Parker clutch, a pair of gold Christian Dior pointed toe pumps, a low up-do, and a neutral makeup palate to finish off this look for the red carpet.
I am praying to see some amazing Elie Saab on the red carpet at the 2014 Berlin International Film Festival and I think that Greta would look fantastic in the designs of the King of the Red Carpet. Even though she has never worn couture before, and I have 3 wishes for her to wear couture gowns, it is a major film festival and I think that Greta will work some couture looks during the course of the festival. I think that she could get her hands on this red embellished Elie Saab Fall 2013 Couture gown with 3/4 length sleeves, a v-neck, and a full ball skirt. This gown needs a red carpet moment and I think that the red carpet at the Berlin Film Festival is the perfect location for this gown to have its red carpet moment.
Last but not least I have to pick a look from an American brand. Greta has almost always worn American brands on the red carpet and I am certain that she will rock at least one during the course of the festival. Oscar de la Renta is a brand that I really want to see on Greta during the Berlin Film Fest. This gold bustier Oscar de la Renta Pre-Fall 2014 gown with a sunflower yellow balloon skirt would look so elegant on Greta. The collection inspired by the works of American couturier Charles James and the portraits that photographer Cecil Beaton took of the designers now iconic ensembles. I think that this strapless gown would fit right in at the on the Berlin Film Festival red carpet.
Alexandre Vauthier brought the sexy to the runways of Paris Haute Couture fashion week. The young designer has a specific audience and it doesn’t look like that is going to change any time soon. It is a nice change of pace to see during the week of elegant classic gowns, cocktail dresses, and suits that take to the runway during this week. Black and oxblood contrasted bright whites, blue, chartreuse, leopard print, and gold embellishments as they took to the runway. Alexandre Vauthier partnered with Christian Louboutin yet again to create a new collection of shoes that the models wore while storming the runway. I can see a host of sexy women wearing this collection including Miley Cyrus, Rihanna, Ashley Madekwe, Camila Alves, Kylie Minogue, Emma Roberts, Alicia Keys, Heidi Klum, Rita Ora, Kate Beckinsale, Lady Gaga, Paula Patton, Jennifer Hudson, Nina Dobrev, and even Taylor Swift. See my top 4 looks from the collection bellow.
In the days prior to the Grammy Awards Rita Ora and Rihanna were seen making the pre-show party rounds wearing a bevy of different looks from this collection. I wasn’t a huge fan of the gold lurex dress Rita Ora wore a private party at the Chateau Marmont, but then I did like the white jacket, skirt, and white button down she wore to the ROC Nation Brunch the next night. I planned this post the night before the Clive Davis Pre-Grammy Gala and then Rihanna showed up in the yellow silk draped shirt dress, I did a little squeal of delight as I had wanted to see RiRi in this gown. Both of these ladies wore Christian Louboutin shoes, Rita rocked sandals from the collection and Rihanna wore a pair of gold pointed toe pumps.
Oprah Winfrey killed it on the red carpet of the 2014 SAG Awards in a stunning Badgley Mischka purple long sleeved gown. I am hoping that Oprah’s amazing red carpet run continues at the BAFTA Awards on February 16th. I am hoping for a big night for fashion as the past couple of weeks have been snooze fest on the red carpet. Oprah would look stunning in this navy blue Tadashi Shoji Spring 2014 RTW gown with a portrait neckline and a fly away skirt. I love that Tadashi is one of the few brands that design looks for curvy women for the red carpet and they usually look extremely stunning, I.E. Octavia Spencer. This gown would look absolutely stunning on Oprah giving her a big look for a big night in London. Her own stunning diamonds in her ears and around her neck as well as a pair of navy Salvatore Ferragamo satin peep toe pumps will give Oprah the perfect finishing touches to her look for the BAFTA Awards.
Sandra Bullock has been on and off with what I have liked when it comes to her red carpet pickings this Awards Season. I am hoping that for her very first BAFTA Awards next month that Sandy will bring Hollywood to the London red carpet via this black and white Naeem Khan Spring 2014 RTW strapless embellished gown. I think that Sandra will look absolutely stunning in this classic silhouette and the embellishments will just add to the glamour. One point of contention with most of Sandy’s looks this season for me has been her hair and make up. I would like to see Sandy do a sleek hair style with this gown so that she will not compete with all the embellishments in this gown. A black Edie Parker clutch, a pair of black sandals, simple jewels in her ears, and a red lip will make this look perfect for the BAFTA Awards.
Julia Roberts has really failed to excite on any red carpet she has stepped out on at all this awards season. I was in love with her feminine take on menswear dressing at the Golden Globe Awards in Dolce & Gabbana but her Pepto-Bismol pink Valentino jumpsuit at the SAG Awards and her boring Elie Saab beaded mini at the Grammy’s just did absolutely nothing for me. I figure we will see more menswear inspired looks on Julia between now and the Oscars as that is what she really loves to rock on the red carpet. This Lanvin Pre-Fall 2014 satin tuxedo blazer and maxi skirt are something that I can totally picture Julia rocking on the red carpet. I would obviously pair this with a top, Julia is a bit to old to be bare chested on the red carpet under a blazer, that is white with some sort of feminine embellishments. A black satin clutch, a pair of black satin pumps, a pair of drop earrings, and a statement cocktail ring will make this look perfect for the BAFTA red carpet.
Lea Seydoux was on hand to announce the nominees of the EE Rising Star Award which will be presented at the 2014 BAFTA Awards for which she is also nominated. The ‘Blue is the Warmest Color’ star has been making the red carpet rounds lately wearing a lot of Prada, which makes sense since she is one of Miuccia Prada’s muses. I am hoping that for the BAFTA red carpet that Lea will shy away from a Prada or Miu Miu design in favor of something a little different. I think that this Elie Saab Spring 2014 Couture white gown with a train attached to the hip and floral embellishments all over is absolutely perfect for the 2014 BAFTA Awards and would be a nice change of pace for Lea. Finish the look with a pair of silver sandals and some stunning jewels with statement colored stones would just pull this look together for the BAFTA red carpet.
After an amazing year last year dressing stars like Beyonce, Angelina Jolie, Nieves Alvarez, Shay Mitchell, Carrie Underwood, Solange Knowles and Petra Nemcova the design team of Tamara Ralph and Michael Russo presented their first ever runway collection this week during Paris Haute Couture Fashion Week. The Ralph & Russo Spring 2014 Couture collection is really a HUGE amazing collection and there are definitely some red carpet ready looks, but the looks are not for those that are faint of heart. These looks can easily consume women who do not have the diva presence to wear them on the red carpet. The confident glamorous women that I can picture wearing the looks from this collection include Jennifer Lopez, Angelina Jolie, Nieves Alvarez, Dita von Teese, Beyonce, Eva Longoria, and Jane Fonda just to name a few. Bellow are my four favorite looks from the collection and who I can picture wearing them. What do you think of my picks? Is the collection too bold? Overwhelming? Or, like me, can you not wait to see this collection on the red carpet?
I had such high expectations for Emma Thompson during awards season after her wonderful run promoting ‘Saving Mr. Banks’ at the end of last year, but she has consistently made my worst dressed list awards show after awards show. I am hoping that when she takes to the red carpet at the 2014 BAFTA Awards where she is nominated for Best Leading Actress for ‘Saving Mr. Banks’ that she will give the the major red carpet moment that I have been praying for. I think that this very 1960’s style Dolce & Gabbana Spring 2014 RTW gown with beaded empire waist detailing would be a perfect choice for Emma to make to redeem herself back on home soil. At other awards shows Emma has constantly complained how bad her Louboutin heels have ruined the night and because of that she opted for flat Louboutin sandals at the SAG Awards. I figure she will wear another pair of flats for the BAFTA Awards and my choice are a pair of gold Christian Louboutin pointed toe ‘Pigalle’ flats
. Add a gold clutch, simple jewels, and a chiffon wrap to match the color of the gown and Emma will finally have a look that I love for her for the BAFTA red carpet.
Unlike Emma, Jennifer Lawrence made my Best Dressed List at the 2014 SAG Awards in her navy blue sequined Christian Dior Fall 2013 Couture column gown. This was Jennifer’s best Christian Dior look EVER! She looked so tall, chic, elegant, and edgy all at the same time. I am sure that Jennifer will don another Dior look for the BAFTA Awards. I am also guessing that this red carpet ensemble will come courtesy of the Christian Dior Spring 2014 Couture collection. I think that this black and white mermaid gown is exactly what she will need to keep the Best Dressed in Dior roll going. This gown has a similar shape to her SAG dress but with slight differences and I am hoping that it would have the same effect of making her look amazonian tall. I would complete this look with a purple clutch (for a pop of color), a pair of black pumps, and some stunning jewels with amethysts and diamonds in her ears and on her wrist to complete this amazing ensemble for Jennifer.
