The Top 10 Looks from the Academy Awards

I have to say that when I first read the description of the Chanel Couture gown that Julianne Moore wore to the Academy Awards last night I was very afraid. I was waiting with bated breath for the stunning redhead to show up on the red carpet. When the actress, who won Best Actress last night, showed up I let out a HUGE sigh of relief. This white Chanel Couture gown is covered with 80,000 hand cut flower paillettes and took 27 people over 900 hours to make. Julianne really let the gown speak for itself slicking her hair back adding simple Chopard cluster earrings and a berry lip to finish off a breathtaking award winning look for the Oscar winning actress.
Many will be shocked that I put a black gown so far up my best dressed list. The reason for this is because no one could have worn this custom Maison Marigela Couture gown and made me love this more than the queen of the red carpet Cate Blanchett. While I was predicting that she would show up in Armani Prive this step to the left was just what I love about Cate. The beauty of this look was in the details. The frayed fringes and the stunning turquoise Tiffany & Co. floral bib necklace, which despite whatever Kelly Osbourne says is TOTALLY Oscars worthy, just made this look most stunning. A hall of fame look for Cate for sure. Many will also disagree with me putting Gwyneth Paltrow on this list. I thought that Gwynie rocked her custom Ralph & Russo one sleeved rosette sleek gown. Many did not like the rose and thought it ruined the look, but I honestly would ask them would they have preferred this gown if it was just plain baby pink dress? I don’t think so. A pair of statement earrings and slicked back hair finished this look perfectly. I will say the biggest wow and shock of the night was how much I actually LOVED what Rosamund Pike wore on the red carpet. After a series of refinding her red carpet footing and slowly getting better and better Rosamund gave me a perfect look. This custom red Givenchy Couture lace gown that Rosamund paired with simple red sandals, a pair of dainty simple Lorraine Schwartz diamond earrings, fresh makeup and a swept back bun. There is simply not a single thing about Rosamunds look that I would have changed.
A red head in sapphire. Jessica Chastain knew the way to my heart. I absolutely adore Jessica in her custom Givenchy sapphire gown with just a hint of sparkle and leg. This is what I am talking about. I absolutely love this woman. She has her self one of the best stylists in the world (the same woman who dresses Cate Blanchett) and she knows how to work a red carpet. Another big shock of the night was seeing Victoria’s Secret model Behati Prinsloo really go for it wearing her stunning Armani Prive Fall 2014 Couture strapless black and red peplum gown. I don’t think I have ever see Behati look so chic, her and hubby Adam Levine of Maroon 5 were definitely my Best Dressed Couple. Taking a risk and adding that black diamond ball necklace and kept the rest of the styling sexy and vampy. She oozed sexy glamour and provided the perfect arm candy. Jennifer Lopez brought feminine sexy glamour to the Oscars red carpet in one of the nights biggest dresses from the Elie Saab Fall 2014 Couture collection. I loved that as she decided to go big or go home that Jennifer decided to wear a champagne colored ball gown. I am really excited that this gown finally got worn for a red carpet event and really what better platform for this gown than the Academy Awards?
I had my doubts about what Marion Cotillard was going to wear. I was betting on custom or that she would break the norm and wear one of the tea length gowns from the Christian Dior Spring 2015 Couture collection. She instead went to last springs runway selecting this sequined perforated detail white Christian Dior Spring 2014 Couture gown that features a beautiful bustle detail in the back. Many were not sure what to make of this as they saw an unflattering view of this from the back as their first impression. I immediately loved this. Who else could have taken this avant garde gown and rocked it with such elegance grace and sophistication? Emma Stone finally broke the colorless spell that she has been stuck in wearing a custom chartreuse green Elie Saab Couture fully beaded gown with a split to there and long sleeves. She really gave me modern old Hollywood with the stunning gown, matching shoes, and vintage glam beauty look. Last but not least is Reese Witherspoon in custom Tom Ford. Everyone had their money on Julianne Moore wearing a custom Tom Ford gown, but the honor went to Reese who more than did the designer justice. This is another look at taking the idea of old Hollywood and making it a modern statement. Everything about this look feels classic but still very very fresh.
Last night was a very well dressed red carpet, of course there were a few disasters and some that really let me down but all in all it was an awesome night on the red carpet. All of the looks from the red carpet are on the blogs Facebook page and I am working on uploading pictures from all of the parties (as pictures are STILL coming in), so make sure that you head over there and check them all out! Who was your best dressed? Worst dressed?

The Best Looks from the Film Independent Spirit Awards

I will say that I am slightly disappointed in the red carpet from the 2015 Film Independent Spirit Awards. There was not a huge bustle of stars as per usual, but the stars that did show up really brought it. The lady that I always look forward to seeing on the carpet the most, Cate Blanchett, did not let me down. Queen Cate rocked a Schiaparelli Spring 2015 Couture long sleeve tea length dress with heart and cupids arrow print. I love how sophisticated this quirky ensemble came off on Cate. Many would have made this look tacky but not the red carpet queen.
While Emma Stone kept up her all back Awards Season run she looked beautiful in a hot off the runway Monique Lhuillier Fall 2015 RTW dress with a lace bodice and full skirt. I love how Emma can make a black dress anything but basic. I was really surprised by how much I actually loved what Carmen Ejogo wore on the red carpet. Carmen has not really impressed me thus far but this black Roksanda Pre-Fall 2015 strapless jumpsuit with its 3D color blocked detail on the top. I think that this look really put Carmen on the map and I am actually really excited to see what she will wear tonight. One lady I thought would be fighting Cate Blanchett for the top spot was Julianne Moore. She looked amazing in her Christian Dior Spring 2015 Couture shift dress, but I don’t know I was expecting more. Julianne looked youthful and beautiful, and as always experimented with fashion, and still looked absolutely fabulous. And last but not least “Castle” star Stana Katic rocked a Chloe Resort 2015 textured maxi dress. Stana usually looks way over dressed, she wore a Carolina Herrera ball gown for the Peoples Choice Awards of all events, so I was pleasantly surprised that she was dressed perfectly for the events dress code.

2015 Acadey Awards: Guests Wish List

Sad day. It is the last Academy Awards wish list for 2015, but on a high note the Oscars are TONIGHT! So this list falls upon deaf ears as all these ladies have most likely picked their Oscar gowns. Anna Faris will most likely be on the Oscars red carpet as the arm candy of her hunky husband Chris Pratt, who will be on hand tonight as a presenter. I would love to see Anna go for a princess moment wearing this lilac Monique Lhuillier Spring 2015 RTW embroidered tulle V-neck ball gown features a violet ombre of beaded embroidery descending from the V-neck bodice in to a full skirt. I am surprised that this gown has not been worn thus far in Awards Season and I think that with the release of the Fall 2015 RTW collection last week that there is slim chance that this gown could get worn but I would love to see Anna wear it tonight.
Behati Prinsloo is the lucky lady that calls Academy Awards performer Adam Levine her husband. Behati has been at Adams side at all of his red carpet appearances since their wedding and I am sure that will continue through tonight. I would love to see Behati go for art deco Hollywood glam with this long sleeve completely beaded Naeem Khan Fall 2015 RTW black and silver gown that features directional striping, long sleeves, plunging v-neck, and a split up to there. This gown is the epitome of Hollywood glamour and the Oscars are the epitome of Hollywood. That makes this gown perfect.
I have to say that I am just as excited to see Camila Alves take to the red carpet on the arm of Matthew McConaughey as some of the nominees. Camila always gets it right on the red carpet and I am expecting nothing less come the Oscars this evening. I am praying that we will see the Brazilian bombshell wearing this pastel lemon yellow Georges Hobeika Spring 2015 Couture trumpet gown with a boat neck and bow belt. This is a perfect look for a guest of a presenter because it is dramatic enough for Camila but also says I respect the nominees.

Top 5 Looks from the Tom Ford Fall 2015 RTW Presentation

Earlier I mentioned how packed the Tom Ford Fall 2015 RTW presentation out in Los Angeles yesterday was. Out of all the FROWERS I picked my top 5 looks. Amy Adams, who until last night has never worn Tom Ford, was the boldest statement of the night in her red double breasted velvet tuxedo with bell bottom pants. Already working the 70’s trends for Fall I have to say that I absolutely love what Amy put down for her front row look. She was the only one who stood out while I was watching the livestream of the runway. Julianne Moore was of course on hand. Having worn Tom Ford on the red carpet several times (and serving as a model for his first collection back in 2011), it really did not come as a surprise to see the stunning red head front row. Her Spring 2015 RTW green and black dress was amazing and only enhanced by her emerald green feather clutch. Rita Ora was a WOW in her custom white fitted tuxedo. I dont think that I have ever loved a look from Rita so much, I am actually really happy that she left her signature red lip at home. Rosie Huntington-Whiteley rocked the red carpet and the front row in a glittering Tom Ford gold mesh long sleeve mini dress that features a stunning cowel back. Rosie always look amazing and this is no different she looked amazing coming but looked just as amazing, if not better, going. And last but not least is Scarlett Johansson who took her Tom Ford Fall 2012 RTW gold snakeskin embossed zipper embellished gown (a favorite among stars like Jennifer Lawrence, Kate Beckinsale and Jada Pinkett Smith) and shortened it to a mini to show off her enviable post baby body.
Its too hard for me to pick a single favorite. Who was yours?

2015 Academy Awards: Performers Wish List

Anna Kendrick is going to be taking to the Academy Awards stage tomorrow night. I have absolutely no idea what it is that she will be performing but I am excited to see what she will wear. I picked this gold Badgley Mischka Fall 2015 RTW strapless embroidered trumpet gown. While I don’t ever remember Anna wearing Badgley Mishka I think that this gown would look amazing on the petite starlet. Changing gears from the major red carpet gown I figure that Anna will change, most likely into another gown, for her performance. This simple black Jenny Packham Pre-Fall 2015 gown with a plunging neckline and crystal embellishments would be perfect for Anna to perform in. This gown is flowing and would be perfect for a variety of different types of performances. Only time will tell what Anna will be performing and I can not wait.
Jennifer Hudson is coming back to the Oscars stage to perform yet again. After finally getting back in my good graces in her simple white Tom Ford cocktail dress at the Grammy Awards, I am praying that Jennifer continues to wow me at the Academy Awards. When I was watching the Monique Lhuillier Fall 2015 RTW collection and I saw this copper long sleeve backless metallic gown, my wheels started turning to figure out who should snatch it up for the Oscars. JHud is that person. I think that the copper color would look amazing against her skin tone and I would just die if she werked this gown on the Oscars red carpet. To perform, most likely the in memoriam segment, I would love to see Jennifer wear this grey embellished one shoulder gown from the same collection with a side cutout. This would look absolutely amazing on Jennifer, if she doesn’t opt for a black ensemble. A pair of silver sandals and a red lip will finish off this look perfect for the stage.
Lady Gaga is the real surprise performer at tomorrow nights Academy Awards. I was really shocked when I got the press release that Gaga was performing. She did attend last year, as a guest of Chopard, so seeing her make a repeat Oscars appearance was shocking. For the red carpet I would love to see Gaga wear this amazing white Ralph & Russo Fall 2014 Couture asymmetrical ruffled gown with black floral embellishments. This is the over the top yet glam look that I was expecting Gaga to go for on the Grammy’s red carpet but I think will infuse some fun into the Oscars red carpet. What will Gaga be performing? I honestly have no idea. This years Academy Awards are featuring more performances than ever. All of the Oscar nominated songs are being performed, on top of the performances by Anna Kendrick, Jennifer Hudson and Gaga. I think that this Zuhair Murad Spring 2015 jumpsuit that features all over embellishments, a plunging neckline and attached train. This makes this look sexy, glamorous, over the top and most importantly Oscars stage ready.
Rita Ora is the only woman whom I know what she will be performing tomorrow night at the Academy Awards. The British pop star will be performing the Oscar nominated song “Grateful” from “Beyond the Lights.” Before she takes to the stage Rita will work her first Oscars red carpet. I would love to see her do so in this hot pink Zac Posen Fall 2015 RTW glitter infused taffeta structured ball gown. I love this gown. I was really disappointed in Zac’s fall collection but this was definitely I high point and I figure that a pop star will get her hand on this bold statement of a gown. I think this mixes Rita’s bold personality with the formality of the Academy Awards. For her performance I would love to see Rita bring out old Hollywood wearing this black and nude Elie Saab Spring 2015 Couture embellished gown with a plunging neckline and a feather bolero. I can see this gown looking amazing with an orchestra behind Rita and lots of moving light beams, but I am really good at building up hype for an Oscars performance in my head and then get really let down.

Runway Report: Tom Ford Fall 2015 RTW

Wow. That was all I could really say after watching the Tom Ford Fall 2015 RTW collection presentation on livestream. From the petals from the 40,000 white roses used to cover the runway, to the Rihanna enhanced soundtrack, to absolutely amazing 70’s inspired clothing that took to the runway, everything was just screaming perfection. When the first look, a black below the knee tiered peasant dress on Daphne Groeneveld, came down the runway I figured that I was going to love this collection. A departure from the uber sexy looks that have dominated the Tom Ford runway for the past few seasons in favor of elegant, sophisticated yet very edgy. I personally want to see that fur and denim patchwork coat winding up in my closet and the white long sleeve fringe dress ending up on Nicole Kidman. Those two things would make me a very happy boy.
Falls three biggest trends were definitely front and center. The biggest trend I saw solidified during New York Fashion Week was the reemergence of the 1970s and of Studio 54. The silhouettes, especially at the very beginning and end of the collection, really embodied this feeling. Any of the tops and skirts from this collection could easily be pulled for period costumes for the character of a fabulous women from the 70s. Dianna Ross, Jerry Hall and Bianca Jagger all come to mind. Fringe and fur were the other two big trends for Fall 2015 that were front and center in this collection. Leopard prints, soft neutrals, and denims all made for amazing fur coats that I am sure we will see on the fashion pack come next February.
While I do not see this Tom Ford collection as one that will get much red carpet love there was a MAJOR front row. I give major props to Tom for deciding to forgo showing in New York, Paris, London or Milan in favor of Los Angeles. The show, presented two days before the Oscars, garunteed that literally everyone who was anyone was at the show. I will now go down a list of stars that sat front row: Amy Adams, Jennifer Lopez, Beyonce, Julianne Moore, Gwyneth Paltrow, Nicole Richie, Sofia Vergara, Armie Hammer, Jay Z, Reese Witherspoon, Naomi Campbell, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Faith Hill, Anjelica Huston, Molly Sims, Scarlett Johansson, Elizabeth Olsen, Miguel, Olivia Munn, John Legend, Miley Cyrus, Rita Ora, Fergie, Josh Duhamel, Joe Manganiello, Kelly Lynch, Rachel Zoe, Brad Goreski, Cody Horn, Gia Coppola, Jason Statham, James Cordon, Amber Valetta and Emily Ratajkowski. This makes me hopeful. There are definitely a few looks from this collection that I would love to see some of these FROWERS wearing.

2015 Academy Awards: Naomi, Nicole, Sienna & Zoe Wish List

I am excited to see Naomi Watts on the red carpet at the Academy Awards on Sunday night where she is going to be on hand as a presenter. I love seeing Naomi because I never know what she is going to show up wearing. I am hoping that she goes with classic ladylike glamour wearing this purple embroidered Oscar de la Renta Fall 2015 RTW strapless ballgown with an exaggerated sweetheart neckline. I absolutely loved what Peter Copping did for Oscar de la Renta, it was truly like Oscar had his hands in this collection and I am in love. He hasn’t come in a taken the house in his own direction, a la Heidi Slimane and Raf Simons, but really infused his talents into the core beliefs of the Oscar de la Renta legacy. Naomi doesn’t do dark and brooding looks very often and I think that this gown would just be fabulous on her. Finish the look with a chic up do, a red lip, a black Edie Parker clutch, a statement diamond necklace and a pair of black sandals and Naomi will slay the Oscars red carpet.
It has been either love or loathe when it comes to what Nicole Kidman has been wearing on the red carpet. I am hoping that she gives me a major moment when it comes to the Academy Awards on Sunday night. Despite the fact that earlier this month Nicole had a major white moment, in Valentino Couture at the Berlin Film Festival, I would still love to see her wear this white double silk georgette Elie Saab Spring 2015 RTW which features a jewel neckline with allover beaded embroidery and draped panels that cascade over the shoulder. I think that this is a dramatic gown that needs a woman with presence to pull it off and I think that Nicole really has that presence. I would add a pair of diamond and colored stone earrings, forgo a clutch, throw on a pair of white peep toe pumps and finish off with a red lip to ensure that this is a dramatic best dressed moment on the red carpet.
Sienna Miller is going to be a busy woman. She will be performing on Broadway in “Cabaret” on Saturday night in New York City and then will be running to catch a red eye flight to LA to fulfill her duties as a presenter at the Academy Awards on Sunday. I am hoping that Sienna will champion a British designer on the Oscars red carpet. While it is more likely that she would wear a custom gown from the likes of Burberry or Alexander McQueen I would love to see Sienna wear this strapless coral Roksanda Pre-Fall 2015 gown rendered in silk wool blend and features a fitted A-line silhouette with micro-pleating details along the hem. I think that Sienna would be the perfect woman to bring Roksanda into being a household name with this gown on the Oscars red carpet. Finish the look with a statement necklace, a gold Edie Parker clutch and a pair of crystal embellished gold Miu Miu sandals and Sienna will hold her own on the tops of best dressed lists.
I am hoping that that Academy Awards on Sunday night sees Zoe Saldana back to her best. I have missed the amazing Zoe that I fell in love with on the red carpet during her pregnancy. I think that this white Jason Wu Fall 2015 RTW halter gown with a keyhole and thin black belt would be an amazing red carpet moment for Zoe. This might be too simple for most as an Oscars dress, especially for a high profile presenter, but I think that this would come as a welcome surprise. Finish the look with a pair of dazzling cluster earrings, an Edie Parker clutch, a pair of black Stuart Weitzman ‘Nudist’ sandals and a bold red lip and Zoe will have a welcome red carpet return come the Oscars.

2015 Academy Awards: Lupita, Octavia, Scarlett & Viola Wish List

Last year Lupita Nyong’o rocked the Academy Awards red carpet in a pretty Nairobi blue custom Prada gown before receiving her first Academy Award. I am excited to see what the stunning actress will bring to the red carpet on Sunday night. I am going to make the safe bet that Lupita will wear another custom Prada or Miu Miu gown for the Oscars on Sunday, but I am going to pray to the red carpet fashion gods that she wears this emerald green Elie Saab Fall 2013 Couture beaded chiffon evening gown.. This soft gown would be perfection for Lupita to wear for the Academy Awards as a presenter. Finish this look with an emerald Edie Parker clutch, gold sandals and a bold red lip and Lupita will rock the hell out of the Oscars red carpet.
If anyone is a sure bet in who they are going to show up at the Academy Awards wearing it is definitely Octavia Spencer. The Academy Award winning actress has been loyal to Tadashi Shoji since she first stepped out on the red carpet scene, so seeing her wear any other designer would be very shocking. I was delighted to see that when Tadashi showcased his Fall 2015 RTW collection in New York City last week that there were a bevy of Academy Awards worthy gown in the mix. I would love to see this amazing navy blue tulle ball gown with a cream underlay and black embroidery. I think that this would look fantastic on Octavia who just keeps producing win after win for Tadashi. I would however modify this gown slightly and have the cream underlay changed to be navy, maybe something with a hint of sparkle. A black clutch, navy sandals, diamond earrings, a simple diamond bracelet and a red lip would put the perfect finishing touches on this red carpet look.
Scarlett Johansson will make her major red carpet debut at the Academy Awards on Sunday night since giving birth last year. I am really excited to see what the stunning blonde bombshell will wear on the red carpet. We don’t get to see much of what comes down the runways during the Dolce & Gabbana Alta-Moda shows but from what I did see the collection was absolutely amazing. I would love to see ScarJo wear this strapless Dolce & Gabbana Spring 2015 Alta-Moda red tulle mermaid gown. This is a dramatic gown that need a dramatic backdrop and what more dramatic than the Academy Awards red carpet, except for maybe the Met Ball. This corseted gown would show off Scarlett’s enviable drop dead gorgeous post baby body. I would finish this look with old Hollywood waves, a red lip and a pair of simple gold pumps would made this the perfect red carpet look for Scarlett to show off that post-baby bod.
Thus far into awards season I have been blown away by Viola Davis. The “How to Get Away With Murder” star had fallen out of my red carpet graces with bland look after bland look. That was shut down when she stepped out in a red va va voom Donna Karan Atelier mermaid gown at the Golden Globe Awards. I am hoping that she keeps up her stunning run when she steps out on the Academy Awards red carpet to make her way to her presenter duties on Sunday night. I would love to see Viola wear this goldenrod yellow one shoulder Monique Lhuillier Fall 2015 RTW flowing Grecian draped gown. I think that this gown is simple enough for a presenter but wow enough for the Academy Awards. Finish this look off with a gold clutch, gold sandals, simple earrings and a glossy lip to ensure that Viola is red carpet ready.
