Best Dressed of November 2015

If you don’t know the November Best Dressed list the end of the year for If I Was A Stylist. I take looks from December of the previous year through November of the current year into consideration for my Best Dressed of the Year list. Starting tomorrow the End of the Year Style Awards will start posting with Best Transformation. Topping the Best Dressed of November list is Lea Seydoux who looked very much the part of a Bond girl wearing a red custom Miu Miu off the shoulder chiffon at the “Spectre” premiere in Mexico City. I was a little concerned with Lea only wearing Miu/Miu and Prada during this promo tour and thus becoming a one note but each look that Lea put out was more glamorous than the last and this was the piece du resistance.
Spanish supermodel Nieves Alvarez, who has long been a favorite of mine (often giving looks worthy of being on my Best Dressed of the Year list), attended the Vanity Fair Awards in Madrid wearing a custom Stephane Rolland Couture gown which masters illusion neckline which she paired with an Yliana Yepez clutch, Torricao Alta Joyeria jewels and a Santiago Del Palacio fur. Nieves for sure showed us how it is done as this is the perfect way to wear white going into the winter season. The big shock of the month for me was how amazingly beautiful that Heidi Klum looked on the red carpet of the Bambi Awards wearing a custom eggplant Zac Posen strapless structured ball gown. Heidi has been wearing a lot of really unflattering, age inappropriate looks which have aged her more than they should so it was amazing that this gown made such a glamorous impact. Talking about glamorous impact model Arizona Muse stepped out for the British Fashion Awards wearing a Ralph & Russo Fall 2015 couture embroidered cap sleeve crop top and high waisted palazzo pants. Arizona took this modern take on a classic look and went full on old Hollywood movie star glam with her hair and make-up which just made this look even more beautiful.
Kiernan Shipka is always the most amazingly dress teenager on the red carpet. She attended the Guggenheim International Gala Pre-Party wearing a Christian Dior Spring 2015 Couture embroidered and embellished cocktail dress. What other 16 year old can work this dress on red carpet with such class and confidence. Kiernan is definitely getting better and better with each red carpet that she steps out on and I am excited to continue to see her grow. Stephanie Sigman was an unknown to me prior to the “Spectre” promo tour but after wearing one of my favorite Marchesa looks for the London premiere and this absolutely stunning red custom Armani Prive long sleeve structured gown, it is safe to say that she has put her foot in the cement of being a fashion darling. Solange is one of my favorite ladies to see on the red carpet. She gives some of the looks that you would only see fashion folks wearing during fashion week on the red carpet. On the red carpet for the Louis XIII Celebration of ‘100 Years’ The Movie You Will Never See, Solange rocked a tangerine Milly Spring 2016 RTW off the shoulder pencil dress with flamenco sleeves that she paired with a gold box clutch, neutral sandals, braids and an orange lip. We don’t see much of Milly on the red carpet and it is looks like this from Solange that makes me question why we don’t.
While I loved Kiernan’s dress at the Guggenheim International Gala Pre-Party it was Dakota Johnson in her white Christian Dior gown with a silver embellished bodice at the Guggenheim International Gala Dinner that took my breath away. Only a day away and such vastly different looks this has got to be my favorite look from Dakota as she keeps getting better with her red carpet dressing. I am actually looking forward to seeing what she is going to bring next year. Elizabeth Banks started the final promo tour for The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2 in high style wearing a floral Elie Saab Fall 2015 Couture spaghetti strap ball gown for the films premiere in Berlin. This is a perfect red carpet moment to close a major film series, which is good since Jennifer Lawrence completely let me down. Finished with an Elie Saab floral crown this look is in definite contention for Best Dressed of the Year. Kerry Washington made a very disappointing night on the red carpet from the Academy Governors Awards into something interesting wearing a black organza Giambattista Valli Fall 2015 Couture sheer ball gown with pink floral embellishments to the Baby2Baby Gala. Usually we see some very pretty dresses, which there were many pretty gowns, but Kerry brought a dramatic red carpet moment. Kerry plus Giambattista Valli Couture = amazing.

2015 Gotham Independent Film Awards Red Carpet Wish List

Brie Larson is most likely going to be working the red carpets from the Gotham Independent Film Awards tomorrow night all the way to the Oscars at the end of February thanks to her performance in the film Room. I have slowly been getting into Brie’s style as she has been trying to find her style over the past year and she has been killing the red carpets lately. For tomorrow nights Gotham Independent Film Awards, where Brie is nominated for Best Actress, I would love to see her wearing this black leather Alexander McQueen Resort 2016 floral embroidered sleeveless a-line dress. Gotham is usually a more laid back awards show, so no big gowns needed. This is a pretty dress and I think quite event appropriate. I would style this look with a pair of red pumps to just take this look to another level and ensure that Brie keeps going things great on her Oscar campaign.
Queen Cate seems to have lost her crown recently as she has not been giving me WOW moment after WOW moment and I am hoping that as she kicks off awards season that she will be back on point. Tomorrow night’s Gotham Independent Film Awards, where Cate is nominated for Best Actress thanks to her performance in Carol, that she makes a major impact. Cate has been experimenting with different types of looks and I really want her to just go back to the old Hollywood glamour with a twist that made me fall in love with her. I picked this Marc Jacobs Spring 2016 RTW ensemble which consists of a three quarter length sleeve embroidered jacket paired with silk pants. This is a different look for Cate but still along that classic style that she would go for. I am hoping that she really gives me something that I can say WOW to tomorrow. Finish the look with a red lip, black Louboutin pumps, wavy faux bob, and diamond cluster earrings to ensure that this look is styled to perfection.
Helen Mirren is being honored tomorrow night with a Tribute Award at the Gotham Independent Film Awards. Helen will either wear Dolce & Gabbana or Badgley Mischka and I am guessing it is going to be the former, I am just hoping that it isn’t another lace or floral dress as I am really getting tired of seeing Helen in those Dolce looks. I picked this Dolce & Gabbana Spring 2016 RTW dress which features a full skirted 50’s silhouette and a mikado brushstroke print. This is a look that Helen has done before but with a new print which would make it less deja vu than any other look that she could pull from this collection. Finishing the look with a pair of gold pumps and a red lip will keep that pretty 50’s vibe that this dress commands.
Kristen Wiig is also nominated for Best Actress tomorrow at the Gotham Independent Film Awards and I am intrigued to see what she is going to wear. Kirsten is one that I can never really predict what she is going to show up in. At the gala premiere of The Martian at the New York Film Festival Kristen shocked me wearing an Oscar de la Renta Spring 2016 RTW strapless cocktail dress with a plunging neckline that I never would have even predicted that she would wear and rocked it. I am hoping that tomorrow she keeps up her good work on the red carpet. I picked this black Michael Kors Spring 2016 RTW metal grommet embellished cocktail dress. Some might think that this look is too casual for an awards show but I think that this is something that Kirsten would make look more formal than it actually is. A lot of the classing up would come through the styling. I would add a pair of black Saint Laurent sandals, a black and silver Edie Parker confetti clutch, sleek hair, and a red lip will ensure that Kristen actually gives me a beautiful look on the red carpet.
Rachel McAdams might not be nominated tomorrow at the Gotham Independent Film Awards but since her film Spotlight is nominated for Best Picture she might show up. Rachel has been having a pretty good year this year on the red carpet after letting me fall out of love with her red carpet decisions. I think I would literally die if Rachel showed up tomorrow night in this Oscar de la Renta Spring 2015 RTW sheath silhouette dress with an allover floral print, a defined contrasting waist, and a pencil skirt. I love the vintage and Spanish inspired elements of this dress and just how ladylike it would actually make this a major moment on the red carpet. I would finish this look off with a black box clutch, a pair of yellow pumps, and pink lip to just punch the look up just that much more.

"Joy" Premiere Wish List

I was less than impressed with the looks that Jennifer Lawrence pulled out for her The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2 promo tour so to be say that I am not that interested to see what she will will to premiere Joy is a little bit of an understatement. I am hoping that the next season of Christian Dior without Raf Simons will bode better for the actress but until then I am not going to be holding my breath for a major moment. I would love to see JLaw rock this saffron Prabal Gurung Spring 2016 RTW gown rendered in silk charmeuse and features an a-line silhouette with a deep v-neckline and a front split at the skirt. Jennifer rocks sporty yet feminine looks like no other and I think that has been the problem with her and Dior, they are usually to overly fussy for her. This gown is simple and extremely elegant which would give Jennifer a beautiful kick off for an awards campaign.

What Michelle Obama Should Wear for the 2015 Kennedy Center Honors

On December 6, 2015 the Obama’s will venture out of the White House and over to the Kennedy Center to witness the honoring of the recipients of the 2015 Kennedy Center Honors medals, Carole King, George Lucas, Rita Moreno, Seiji Ozawa, & Cicely Tyson. I don’t know who is going to be there to honor the recipients as they keep the cast very top secret so that the honorees are surprised so I am not able to make wish lists for them but Michelle Obama will be there. I have been a fan of the First Ladies style from the beginning and she has very seldom let me down and I am really hoping that she continues to wow me in her last year as first lady. For this occasion the honorees gather at the White House for a cocktail reception with the President and the First Lady before going to The Kennedy Center so we are usually able to get a full length view of what the First Lady is wearing. This year I would love to see the Michelle wearing this Marchesa Resort 2016 dark teal embroidered cap sleeve tulle ballgown which features a scoop neck, a fitted bodice, and full skirt. I think that this is a very regal moment and Michelle has not had one of these in a very long time. A pair of silver pumps, a pair of diamond cluster earrings, a curly updo, and a red lip would finish this look off perfectly for this kind of a major event.

"The Color Purple" Broadway Opening Night Red Carpet Wish List

Jennifer Hudson has been slowly getting back to her best. Her red carpet career started rocky and then she lost a ton of weight thanks to Weight Watchers and was working a lot of fabulous creations and last year I was starting to question a lot of her sartorial decisions but this year JHud has been rocking the red carpets like they owe her back rent. Jennifer is staring in the Broadway revival of The Color Purple, which is in previews right now, and will officially open on December 10, 2015. I am excited to see what the stars will wear on the red carpet which will either be before the performance or for a party afterwards. Jennifer has been giving glamorous yet edgy looks and I would love to see her wearing this sleek Zuhair Murad Resort 2016 long sleeved hot pink jumpsuit which features thin lace cutouts and plunging neckline. After being in period costume for the show I can picture Jennifer wanting to wear something very sleek and modern which this jumpsuit definitely is. Keeping the look sleek I would recommend that Jennifer wear the runways hot pink sandals, despite the frigid temperatures on New York City in December, adding a hot pink lip and edgy earcuff will just be the cherries on top of this perfect red carpet ensemble.
Danielle Brooks, of Orange is the New Black, fame is also amongst the top billed cast making her Broadway debut in the role of Sofia in The Color Purple. I am hoping that Danielle continues to show her amazing red carpet style on the red carpet at the shows opening night. Danielle has been championing style for bigger women since she stepped out on the scene (I even included her in my Top 10 from the 2015 Emmy Awards) and I am extremely excited to see what she will wear on this red carpet. I picked this cream Badgley Mischka Spring 2016 RTW halter neck gown with silver foil leaf detailing with silver beading on the halter neck and waist. I don’t think Danielle has had a princess moment on the red carpet and what a better time for it than for her Broadway debut. A chic curly updo, fresh faced makeup, a pair of silver sandals, and a silver clutch would finish this look off absolutely perfect for this red carpet.
Oprah is sure to be in attendance on opening night of the Broadway revival of The Color Purple since she is a main producer of the show. Oprah has been closely involved with the story since the beginning staring in the film adaptation of the novel and then being a producer of the original Broadway incarnation. Oprah can be very hit or miss for me on the red carpet, a lot of time that I think that she picks looks that are too much fabric over her. With that in mind I am picking this high impact electric blue Marchesa Notte Spring 2016 RTW off the shoulder lace gown. I think that Oprah would look amazing in this chic simplistic silhouette as it is just enough without being over the top, she is not the star of the show but is high profile enough to warrant a major moment. Paired with her giant pear shaped diamond earrings and a pair of navy satin pumps Oprah will have a beautiful red carpet moment at the Broadway opening night of The Color Purple.

"Concussion" Premiere Wish List

With the Awards Season buzz around “Concussion” I will be very surprised if it doesn’t have another premiere after the AFI Fest. Gugu Mbatha-Raw has ascended to being one of my favorites on the red carpet, her Louis Vuitton gown on the AFI Fest red carpet was a surprise as she gave a more sleek modern look than we are used to seeing on the actress who brings a fresh take on ladylike dressing. While I enjoyed that step from her norm I am a sucker for a lady like look. For the “Concussion” premiere I picked this dusty mauve Erdem Spring 2016 RTW jacquard midi length cocktail dress for Gugu because it reps a British brand and is sweet and ladylike making for a perfect red carpet moment. Style this look with a pair of gold sandals, a gold metallic clutch, a curly updo, and a pair of gold set diamond cluster earrings to keep up the ladylike glamour of this look and endure that Gugu has yet another red carpet win on her hands.

"By The Sea" London Premiere Red Carpet Wish List

I read somewhere that the Angelina Jolie directed “By The Sea,” which stars herself and husband Brad Pitt, will have a red carpet premiere in London. I have not been able to confirm a date or location for the premiere. Anyways, if there actually is a premiere I am intrigued to see what Angelina will wear as she has been incredibly predictable. I was originally going to pick a dark teal velvet gown from the Ralph & Russo Fall 2015 Couture collection but Monica Bellucci snagged it first for the “Spectre” World Premiere. My second choice was this bronze Ralph & Russo Fall 2015 Couture long sleeved gown which featured an embroidered lace top and a pleated silk lame skirt. Angie has been known to wear the same Atelier Versace gown over and over in slightly different incarnations. I am really hoping that she will make a different decision as this is something that I think would make for an incredible red carpet moment.

2015 American Music Awards: Celine, Chloe, Ciara, Gigi & Gwen Red Carpet Wish List

Performers and presenters for the 2015 American Music Awards just keep coming in, the addition of Celine Dion this morning to the list of performers held up this post. Celine has been added to perform a special rendition of Edith Piaf’s “Hymne à L’Amour” in French as tribute to those affected by the recent attacks in Paris at the American Music Awards on Sunday night. I have long been a fan of Celine’s style and I am intrigued to see what she and stylist Annie Horth will put together for such a somber moment in the show. I believe that this strapless Elie Saab Spring 2013 Couture black gown with black embellishments of the bodice would be a beautiful statement for Celine to make. It would honor not just those in Paris but also Beirut, two places attacked recently and both important to the Elie Saab label. This is such a chic elegant moment that I would hope that Celine and Annie do pull from the Elie Saab couture closet to give such a beautiful moment at the American Music Awards.
Actress Chloe Grace Moretz is on the list of presenters for Sunday night’s American Music Awards and I am trying to figure out what the 18 year old actress would wear. I ended up settling on this Christian Dior Spring 2015 Couture bright yellow embellished coat dress because its edgy yet mod which is exactly what I think an actress presenting at a music awards show should be. No need for big gowns for this occasion as it really isn’t her night. I would keep the styling simple with a pair of black Christian Dior pointed toe pumps and a mod hairstyle to keep this look chic and simple without it turning into a costume.
After attending both the Grammy Awards and the VMA’s this year with no real purpose other than wearing a pretty dress on the red carpet Ciara will actually have a duty at the 2015 American Music Awards as a presenter. If record has anything to say about it Ciara will be wearing Alexandre Vauthier on Sunday but after inspecting all of the current collections and the couture archive there isn’t a look from the label that I particularly love for her. This black and white Alexander McQueen Spring 2016 RTW long sleeve lace turtle neck gown embroidered with a beautiful eagle on the other hand is something that I can totally picture Ciara wearing and working the hell out of. Many devoted red carpet fanatics, myself included, are sick of the naked dress trend but it seems like is has no signs of slowing down and when the gown can be this fierce who can really complain. Sleek hair pulled into a tight bun, a bronze smokey eye, a pair of diamond cluster earrings, and strappy black sandals will complete this perfect look for the AMA red carpet.
Making her first appearance on this blog in a wish list model Gigi Hadid is going to be presenting Sunday night at the 2015 American Music Awards. I am intrigued as to what Gigi will end up wearing on the red carpet. After making a splash in two Atelier Versace gowns on Oscar night I was excited to see more from Gigi but sadly she has not really lived up to that standard she set. For Sunday nights awards I would love to see Gigi wearing this lipstick red Elie Saab Spring 2016 RTW strapless stretch cady and silk georgette jumpsuit for the red carpet. I was surprised when I saw Gigi on this runway and I think that she would fit right in wearing this collection on the red carpet. A pair of gold sandals, beachy waves, and fresh faced makeup will ensure that Gigi injects some cool girl status into this music awards red carpet.
Gwen Stefani will be on hand Sunday night as the only performer in this group. Gwen will be performing her new song “Used To Love You” and I am really excited to see what she will be rocking on the red carpet and during her performance. Her duo of Atelier Versace looks at the 2015 Grammy Awards were AMAZING and I am hoping that she continues to make amazing sartorial decisions. I would love to see Gwen take on the Marc Jacobs Spring 2016 RTW collection for the red carpet. There are a lot of looks that I think she could work the hell out of but I ultimately decided to choose this blue surrealist print gowns which looks like they have been dip dyed in bleach. I love how this gown gives a laid back approach to high glamour and I honestly think Gwen is one of the few that could make this look crazy high fashion. I would finish the look with Gwen’s signature red lip, a vintage inspired hairstyle, a pair of silver pumps, and a pair of diamond cluster earrings to keep the vintage inspired air of this look going on the red carpet.
