Erdem has always been a favorite label of mine. Since we first saw the brand start to build momentum with the support of Keira Knightley and Sienna Miller, two of the most influential faces of British fashion and film, back in 2007 and 2008. Since then Erdem Moralioglu has grown his label to include collaborations with shoe labels and sunglass labels, as well as his celebrity following. Each of Erdem’s collections top the last and that is exactly what has happened with the Pre-Fall 2017 collection. For this collection Erdem Moralioglu looked at two of the era’s most referenced from the Spring 2017 RTW collections, the 1940’s and the 1970’s. Both are high points of glamour and interplay with each other very well. The voluminous shoulders evoke the 40’s while the flowing silhouettes and ribbon bows all remind me of the 70’s. What I also seem to see is a tinge of dark romanticism and that just makes the collection just that much more intriguing to me. My favorite look from the collection, though it was hard to pick just one, has to be the yellow and black brocade gown which features a high turtleneck collar, high low hem, and blue and purple embroidery. I think that this gown would be so amazing as a maternity look for Marion Cotillard, chic awards season look for Felicity Jones, or an interpretation of her character for Emma Watson to wear while promoting Beauty and the Beast. Other stars that I would love to see bring this collection to life on the red carpet include: Emma Stone, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Nicole Kidman, Cate Blanchett, Alicia Vikander, Michelle Monaghan, Sarah Jessica Parker, Ruth Negga, Karlie Kloss, Greta Gerwig, Olivia Wilde, Kiernan Shipka, Lupita Nyong’o, Erin O’Connor, Elle Fanning, Charlize Theron, Emilia Clarke, Mia Wasikowska, Emily Blunt, Lea Seydoux, Sophie Turner, and Zoe Saldana.
Just after finishing up jetting around the world promoting Allied Marion Cotillard is already starting to jet around to promote Assassin’s Creed. Her first stop was a photocall in Sydney, Australia where she continued to mix things up wearing an Audra Fall 2016 RTW ensemble over another Dior look. I don’t mind that Marion is switching things up but I am sure that for one of the big premieres that she will wear the label for whom she is a face. I think that Marion would be gorgeous in this cream Christian Dior Spring 2017 RTW ribbon embellished, halter neck, trapeze gown would be an amazing choice for Marion to wear on the red carpet. While Italian fencer, and Olympic gold medalist, Beatrice Vio did get to wear this gown as a guest at the Italian state dinner at the White House earlier this year I still am hoping that it gets a red carpet moment, and I think that it would drape over Marion’s baby bump ever so glamorously. To really make this look shine on the red carpet I would pair this look with a gold clutch, light pink lip, simple diamond drop earrings, a pair of gold sandals, and a chic updo.
There are a bunch of holiday themed films coming out, but I have to say that there is really just one that I am actually looking forward to seeing, Collateral Beauty. I think that this film looks like a heartwarming take on the ideas of Charles Dickens A Christmas Carol, without taking the idea literally (as we have seen several several times before.) An all star cast means that this films premiere in New York City, on Monday December 12, 2016, has the potential for being an amazing red carpet. Helen Mirren is almost always my favorite when it comes to dressing for the red carpet. Helen is proof that you can still have red carpet style over 70. I love that Helen has friends at some of the most unexpected fashion houses, one of those being Dolce & Gabbana. On the red carpet at the Collateral Beauty premiere in NYC I would love to see Helen as the brightest star on the red carpet. This multicolored sequin paillette Dole & Gabbana Spring 2017 RTW midi dress which features flared sleeves and hem would be amazing on Helen. While I don’t think that there is any reason to do full holiday dressing for this premiere I think that despite that this dress is slated from a spring runway that it is perfectly season appropriate. Jada Pinkett Smith is not in Collateral Beauty but Will Smith is, and Jada almost always plays the perfect plus one on the red carpet. I can only imagine that Jada will be on Will’s arm as he premieres this film. I had a hard time picking a look for Jada since her style can be all over the map, in the most fabulous way possible, so I decided go with short and sparkly. I think that Jada would look absolutely fantastic wearing this gold Kaufmanfranco Resort 2017 shredded sequin and crystal shift mini dress. Sexy and chic are what I think Jada would evoke while walking the red carpet wearing this dress. Rounded out with a chic updo, red lip, and gold sandals this look will be bomb. Kate Winslet is never usually a favorite of mine when it comes to her red carpet dressing. It’s always black, nude, navy, forest green and almost always a fitted pencil dress. Kate has some of the most predictable style of any woman in Hollywood. I don’t expect that to change any time soon. I did go for something a little different by opting for a gorgeous black Lanvin Resort 2017 cocktail dress which features a flowing a-line skirt, a slightly plunging neckline, and sheer peasant sleeves. This looks is just far enough out of Kate’s box that I would imagine that this is never going to happen, while still simple enough to still be hopeful. The styling for sure would be no surprise; loose curls, a red lip, and black pointed toe pumps would be a chic way for Kate to work this red carpet. One person I am always ready to see on the red carpet is Keira Knightley. The gorgeous Brit has a sense of style that goes from classic to futuristic and always romantic. I am really excited to see what she is going to bring to the NYC premiere of Collateral Beauty. I would love to see Keira hit the red carpet in her favorite brand, Chanel, with this gorgeous ensemble from the Spring 2017 RTW collection which features a black lace embellished slip dress and an embellished over skirt. This look is classic Chanel with the over skirt adding a bit of the modern “tech flair” that was encapsulated throughout the collection. Since the dress is so classic I would do about the same with the styling. A pair of simple black peep toe pumps, red lip, vintage inspired updo, diamond cluster earrings, and the Chanel Spring 2017 novelty robot shaped minaudiere would keep Keira at the top of her game. And last but not least rounding out today is the always gorgeous Naomie Harris. The beautiful British actress is starting to kick off her red carpet campaign on the way to the Oscars, not for this film but one of her others, so I would only imagine that she will take this red carpet to keep up appearances on the same day that the Golden Globe Award nominations will come out. We have seen Naomie wearing so many gorgeous looks on the red carpet recently and I can only imagine that they will continue to be amazing. I think that if Naomie took to the Collateral Beauty premiere red carpet in NYC wearing this sparkle berry, legitimately the color description, Zac Posen Spring 2017 RTW strapless origami draped cocktail dress which features glitter embroidery, a sweetheart neckline, fitted bodice, and an A-line silhouette that she would definitely keep that run going. I am always a fan of seeing gorgeous Posen designs on the red carpet and this would just add to his long list of red carpet wins. A pair of maroon strappy sandals, a bronze clutch, chic updo, and a bronzed face would add the perfect finishing touches to this look for Naomie.
There are a lot of movies coming out over the course of December, I am going to be running through the premieres that are going to be spread over the course of the month. One movie I am very excited for is Passengers. The Sci-Fi thriller reminds of of a mix of The Martian and Gravity and I think that we may see one of her best performances ever from Jennifer Lawrence. I am hoping that we see Jennifer nail her best promo tour ever as she jets around the world to promote the film. We have seen Jennifer recently break the mold of a Dior model wearing off label looks for big events. I am excited about this because I know that is what being a brand ambassador is all about, incorporating the brand when appropriate. At the LA premiere of Passengers on Wednesday December 14, 2016 I would love to see Jennifer hit the red carpet looking every glam. I think that this blush pink draped Christian Dior Spring 2017 RTW gown which features a flowing skirt, deep v-neck, and knotted shoulders would be a welcome look for Jennifer, whom usually goes for more structured looks. I think that this gown with a bit of a trailing train, chic updo, pink diamond drop earrings, a dazzling diamond bracelet, and a pair of nude sandals would ensure that Jennifer has a killer red carpet moment, ensuring that she can only go up from here.
At the end of every year the British Fashion Council gather to honor the best of British fashion at the British Fashion Awards, much like the CFDA does every June. I don’t usually have much of an idea who will be on the red carpet at the British Fashion Awards so I just make guesses based on who normally attends, who wears the nominated brands, and who is nominated. Alexa Chung is a staple on British and fashion red carpets, so I would say it is a pretty safe bet that she will be on the carpet at the British Fashion Awards on Monday December 5, 2016. I think that Alexa would be the perfect person to represent Best British Brand nominee Erdem on the red carpet. Alexa doesn’t usually wear a gown on the red carpet, and I don’t expect that to change any time soon. For this red carpet I think that this off the shoulder Erdem Spring 2017 RTW midi dress which features ribbon straps, all over floral embroidery, and ruffled cuffs would be a perfect choice for Alexa. Usually Alexa has this more edgy, bohemian approach to glamour and I think that this dress evokes the dark romance that would look fantastic on Alexa. Cara Delevinge is probably the most famous British model, turned actress, of the moment and I would love to see her hit the red carpet at the British Fashion Awards. I think that Cara would represent Coach and their edgy red carpet style perfectly on the red carpet. Cara would be absolutely gorgeous on the red carpet in this oxblood leather and floral chiffon Coach 1941 Spring 2017 RTW gladiator style cocktail dress. The hard and soft of this look would make for an amazing red carpet moment, one that we don’t see very often. This look likens to some past Prada looks, but does it in such a now way. I could also see Cara hit the red carpet wearing the fringe and stud embellished flatforms. Adding a dark lip and chic romantic waves would ensure that this is another killer red carpet moment for Cara. I have a love/hate relationship with Gigi Hadid, who is nominated for the International Model Award, on the red carpet. When she first burst onto the scene wearing Atelier Versace I was really excited to see where she was going to go, then her looks started to get more try hard with every red carpet she would walk. I saw a bit of the try hard and a bit of the high fashion come out of Gigi when she hosted the American Music Awards, and I am hoping that the high fashion glamizon will be out in full force at the British Fashion Awards. I had a hard time picking what label I wanted to see Gigi wear on the red carpet. I ultimately decided that my favorite looks of Gigi have come from Versace, whose Donatella is nominated for International Ready-to-Wear designer, so I would find it perfectly fitting for her to rock one of her couture designs. I think that this light gold and lilac Atelier Versace Fall 2016 Couture draped and embellished gown would be an amazing moment on Gigi. Rounding this look out with a simple low bun, a dewy face of makeup, and a pair of gold sandals would really turn this into one of those magical red carpet moments.Karlie Kloss has been killing the fashion game this year. Karlie has had a killer selection of red carpet looks and all kinds of events and I would love to see her take to the red carpet at the British Fashion Awards. Since Karlie was on hand to help announce this years crop of nominees I would imagine that hope isn’t too far off. I went down the list of nominated labels and thought of Karlie when I saw many of the names of the domestic British labels and the international labels. Ultimately I decided that I would bring Karlie to a new label with this gorgeous pool blue Balenciaga Spring 2017 RTW draped jersey mini dress which features an embellished broach on the left hip. The label is nominated for several awards at the BFA and I honestly think that Karlie would be the perfect person to bring this modern, yet classically glam dress to life on the red carpet. This is one of my favorite looks from the Spring 2017 RTW collections and I am praying that it gets some sort of red carpet moment. While the satin boot pants are really cool I don’t see Karlie wearing them on the red carpet, but I think that this look paired with some strappy gold sandals, old Hollywood waves, & a simple face of bronze makeup would ensure that Karlie does slay the carpet.Last but not least for today is the gorgeous Naomie Harris. I would imagine that since Naomie has been nominated for some awards, and honored with the cast of Moonlight for others, that she will be trying to keep up her appearances. Naomie has been a champion of fashion in general, consistently being one of the best dressed women on the red carpet. We could see Naomie hit the British Fashion Awards red carpet in a bevy of the nominated labels. My guess would be that Naomie would be the guest of Stella McCartney wearing a custom gown from the label. The runways did not offer anything really red carpet ready so I started looking elsewhere. I would love to see Naomie hit the red carpet wearing this gorgeous Gucci Spring 2017 RTW black silk gown which features a pair of golden embellished pineapples on the sleeves and a pair of head to head parrots on the waist. This gown would be perfect for a fashion red carpet since I don’t see anyone wearing this for the Golden Globe Awards or the Critics Choice Awards.
Fan Bingbing has been having a killer year on the red carpet. She was surely missed on the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival, but she has more than made up for it since then. Fan has been making the rounds promoting her latest film I Am Not Madame Bovary. I always love watching the red carpet come in from the Golden Horse Awards, which are like the Oscars of Taiwan, stars in China always bring it to the red carpet. I went through the nominees and the only name I recognized that came up is Fan, who is nominated for Best Leading Actress for I Am Not Madame Bovary. I hope that tomorrow Fan will continue her go big or go home motto wearing this amazing Ralph & Russo Fall 2016 Couture powder blue and white strapless ballgown which features a ruffled peplum train and an embroidered column silhouette. I believe that Fan is one of the few women who would really make this gown be the magical moment that it has the potential to be. A dramatic updo, silver pumps, a bold pink lip, and a pair of dazzling diamond drop earrings would add the perfect finishing touches to the red carpet moment.
Sing is a star studded animated comedy that got its first premiere at the 2016 Toronto International Film Festival. I am excited to see what the cast will bring to the red carpet when the film has its gala premiere in LA on Jennifer Hudson next Saturday December 3, 2016. Jennifer Hudson was gorgeous at the TIFF premiere of Sing wearing a custom red long sleeve column gown, and I want to continue to dial up the glamour at the LA premiere. I would love to see Jennifer hit up this red carpet wearing this absolutely amazing black and gold Jenny Packham Spring 2017 RTW sequin gown which features a column silhouette, batwing sleeves, a plunging neckline, and slight train. I think that Jennifer has the glamour to really make this look shine on the red carpet. An edgy pixie style, red lip, and black Christian Louboutin sandals would add the perfect finishing touches to this look for Jennifer. Reese Witherspoon usually sticks to the same silhouette of column looks, whether they are cocktail or evening gowns, but recently we have seen her play with some new looks. Way back when she had her Oscar run for Walk The Line Reese wore a lot of vintage inspired, and actual vintage, looks and those still rank as some of my favorite looks from Reese. I think that sort of 40’s, 50’s, and 60’s glamour are the perfect looks for Reese on the red carpet. With that in mind I think that Reese would look absolutely amazing wearing this Bibhu Mohapatra Spring 2017 RTW dove grey tea length gown which features embroidered tulle and an off the shoulder neckline. This gown evokes the glamour of the 1950s in such a chic way and I think that Reese would look absolutely gorgeous floating down the red carpet in this gown. I have to say that I would probably have this look modified to be strapless, as I think that would work even better for Reese. A chic updo, pink lip, vintage diamond earrings, and a pair of silver sandals would add the the right touches to this vintage inspired look.Scarlett Johansson fluctuates being one of my absolute favorite ladies on the red carpet to making me scratch my head as to what she was thinking. I am praying that for the LA premiere of Sing that Scarlett is on top form. I think that ScarJo would be absolutely glamorous on the red carpet at this premiere wearing this gorgeous ivory Lanvin Spring 2017 RTW sleeveless mirror jersey gown which features a plunging v-neckline, a knotted detail at the waist, and a column skirt. This gown is classic in its style, but I think that as it is done impeccably that it would be a winning look on Scarlett. With this gown being such a blank canvass I would implore Scarlett to pair this look with some sort of statement Bulgari collar necklace, adding a gold clutch, and gold sandals to really ensure that she is back on top of best dressed lists.I didn’t take much notice of Tori Kelly before the 2016 Emmy Awards. Tori always looked very pretty, and did at the Emmy’s, but it was the fact that she now has Hollywood power stylist Karla Welch behind her. Karla is the genius mind behind the likes of Sarah Paulson, Olivia Wilde, Michelle Monaghan, and Karlie Kloss and I think that she will push the boundaries of Tori’s style as her career continues to grow. For the LA premiere of Sing I would love to see Tori hit the red carpet wearing this rose pink Zuhair Murad Spring 2017 RTW gown which features a flowing a-line skirt, beaded embroidery, and a halter style plunging neckline. This may be another princess style look for Tori to wear on the red carpet, but I think that she would look so elegant on the red carpet during her first movie promo tour. I would just add a pair of diamond drop earrings, old Hollywood waves, and a pair of nude sandals to really send this look into total gorgeous territory.
Next Wednesday (November 30, 2016) the Victoria’s Secret angels will jet over to Paris for the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show. This marks the first time that the highly publicized fashion show has ever shown in Paris, the second time it has shown in France (the first was in Cannes back in 2000,) and the sixth time that the show has left New York City. This years big night is going to take place at the Grand Palais, the same location that Karl Lagerfeld shows Chanel Ready-to-Wear and Couture. The models will all gather after the show to celebrate the close of the show and hopefully they will all be on top form, style wise. The uniform for a Victoria’s Secret model has changed from the Herve Leger bandage dress to sparkling Balmain mini dresses, both I am fatigued by so I am praying that we will get a little variety. Since the show is in Paris these ladies will have some of the biggest labels in fashion at their finger tips. I would love to see Angel Adriana Lima hit the after party red carpet in an all version of this Louis Vuitton Spring 2017 RTW sequined mini dress that is made in all black. While I love the version as it is on the runway, I think that having this dress made in black would just make it that much chicer. Finishing the look with sexy straight locks, a red lip, a silver clutch, and a pair of silver sandals would ensure that Adriana kills the red carpet next Wednesday.Bella Hadid is going to make her debut on the Victoria’s Secret runway next week and I have to say I am really excited about that. Bella has become one of my favorite models and I am loving seeing her continue to rise. Bella can make looks that on most would end up looking trashy and really making them look like the high fashion pieces ever (which they are.) For the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show I would love to see Bella hit the red carpet wearing this absolutely amazing black Lanvin Spring 2017 RTW sequin asymmetrical cocktail dress which features sheer lace detail, a deep v-neckline, asymmetrical hem, and sequin embellishment throughout. This dress is incredibly sexy and avant garde and I think that Bella would slay this dress on a red carpet. Rounding this look out with a chic pony tail, a pair of dazzling diamond earrings, a bold red lip, a black clutch, and a pair of strappy black bootie sandals would ensure that Bella continues her reign as my favorite model. I am expecting that at least one of the models at the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show’s party will wear the Yves St Laurent collection by the labels new creative director Anthony Vaccarello. We saw Vaccarello bring his signature sexy to the YSL label and really revitalize the brand building a bridge of the heritage of YSL and Heidi Slimane’s Saint Laurent. I think that Izabel Goulart would be the perfect person to wear the label. Izabel has the perfect mix of glamour and sex appeal to pull off this one shouldered Yves St Laurent Spring 2017 RTW draped gold polka dot mini dress which features an asymmetrical hem and a sweetheart bustier. Izabel would really shut this look down with some old Hollywood waves, a pair of black and gold strappy sandals, and a smokey eye.Karlie Kloss has been having a killer year on the red carpet, she is severely battling Bella Hadid for the Model of the Year post in my End of the Year Style Award. While most of the Victoria’s Secret ladies opt for mini dresses I am hoping that we see an array of different styles on the red carpet at the shows after party. I think that Karlie would rock the hell out of the red carpet wearing this Elie Saab Spring 2017 RTW sleeveless stars embroidered jumpsuit which features a halter styled plunging V-neckline, hand-beaded sequin detailing throughout, and a straight legged silhouette. A jumpsuit might seem ‘covered’ for a model who just spent hours parading around in her panties but I think that the fun, sexy, glamorous nature of this look make it perfect for the Victoria’s Secret pink carpet. Since the jumpsuit is such a statement on its own I would just have Karlie pair this look with a smokey eye, nude lip, and black platform peep toe pumps too really send Karlie over the top.Lily Aldridge has been having a very chic year on the red carpet and I am hoping that it will continue when she steps out for the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show after-party. I think that Lily would be cute, flirty and chic wearing this pink and orange Michael Kors Spring 2017 RTW ensemble which features a bralet top and trumpet skirt, both rendered in floral jacquard fabric construction with hand-made bead and sequin flowers. I think that this almost modern nod to the classic pin up style would be a perfect look to wear on the Victoria’s Secret pink carpet. Adding a pair of white pumps, a bright pink lip, and a white clutch would really ensure that Lily slays.Last but not least for today is for Maria Borges. The Angolan fashion model is rarely seen on a red carpet so I don’t really know her red carpet style. I went on a mission to find something for her to wear that I think would fit her look and the event. I ultimately decided to pick this uber modern glam Mugler Spring 2017 RTW cocktail dress which is covered in liquid silver sequins. I think that Maria would look so chic, elegant, and sexy on the red carpet wearing this design. Adding a chic pair of silver sandals, a black clutch, diamond cluster earrings, and a smokey eye would really ensure that this is a gorgeous red carpet moment for Maria.
The 2016 Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show is Wednesday November 30, 2016 and airs on CBS on Monday December 3, 2016.
I am pleasantly surprised by how many stars have been nominated at the Gotham Independent Film Awards. The past few years there has been like one or two big names on the red carpet. That could be the case again this year, but the line up of names that are nominated get me excited that this could be another great red carpet before the end of the year. Naomie Harris is part of the cast of Moonlight who are being honored with the Special Jury Award for Ensemble Performance at the Gothams next Monday. Naomie has long been a favorite of mine on the red carpet and I am excited for the potential of her getting an awards season run. While yes we will be firmly on the road into winter next Monday I am still embracing light, tropical styles for Naomie for this red carpet. This gorgeous dusty rose pink Johanna Ortiz ‘Maicao’ sequin embellished cocktail dress which features an off-the-shoulder neckline, keyhole cutout, and a fluted shape I think would be absolutely gorgeous on Naomie. While it may not seem season appropriate I still think that Naomie would own this look on the red carpet. I would love to see Naomie finish this look with a sleek pulled back hairstyle (like Naomie wore for the Miss Golden Globe party and like the look was styled with in the lookbook,) a pair of rose gold sandals, and a rose gold clutch to really punctuate this look to perfection for the road to the Oscars. When it comes to the red carpet a pregnant Natalie Portman is either love or loathe for me. We saw Natalie wear her first fitted maternity look, via a black Dior pencil dress, at the Hollywood Film Awards. I only remember Natalie wearing one fitted look when she was pregnant with her first child, the white Azzaro gown she wore for the 2011 Screen Actors Guild Awards, so I don’t believe we will see very many (despite how great she looks wearing them.) For the Gothams, where Natalie is nominated for Best Actress thanks to her portrayal of Jacqueline Kennedy in Jackie, I would love to see her wearing this gorgeous Christian Dior Fall 2016 Couture cocktail dress which features a black and white sequined peplum style top and white tiered skirt. This chic look with a pair of simple black sandals, a red lip, black Dior clutch, diamond drop earrings, a lovely pulled back waves would be an amazing look for Natalie. And last but not least I have a wish for red carpet newcomer Ruth Negga, who is nominated for Best Actress for her work in Loving. Ruth came to my attention for the first time when she stepped out to promote this film at the 2016 Cannes Film Festival, where she wore Suno and Marc Jacobs. Since then Ruth has snagged, with the help of power stylist Karla Welch (Olivia Wilde, Karlie Kloss, Sarah Paulson,) some of the most coveted brands to wear on the red carpet. I am interested to see how Ruth’s style will grow when she is finally nominated for some of the major awards. For the Gotham Independent Film Awards next Monday I would love to see Ruth make a statement by showing up on the red carpet in this very visual Peter Pilotto Spring 2017 RTW taffeta jacquard macrame dress which features a ruffle hem, trumpet silhouette, embroidered patchwork, halter neckline and a cutout bodice. I think that this would look so chic on Ruth and a bold “I AM HERE” statement. Since the dress is such a statement I would just have Ruth pair this dress with a pair of simple black sandals, chic finger waves, and a nude lip to really ensure that this really the kick off to a major red carpet awards season.
