There are some really great stars who are slated to present films at the 2017 AFI Fest as centerpiece galas and I am really excited to see what they will bring to the festival. As I said yesterday the dress code for the AFI Fest red carpet is the most laid back of all of the festivals. I think that stars take this red carpet as a more laid back opportunity to promote their films after doing the glam gowns at other festivals. 
Usually when it comes to the red carpet at the AFI Fest I don’t even think about couture, but I was looking for the right dress for Rosamund Pike to wear for the gala premiere of Hostiles when I saw this rainbow striped Schiaparelli Fall 2017 Couture tea length dress. This dress is definitely a little more than I think the AFI Fest red carpet is used to seeing, but for a gala premiere I think that this dress which features a beautifully embroidered sleeveless bodice and a pleated a-line skirt would be a great choice. I think that the embroideries and stripes bring this couture confection down to a level of glamour appropriate for the AFI Fest red carpet. I couldn’t see this dress on the red carpet at any of the major awards shows, and I really want to see it on a red carpet and I definitely think that Rosamund would turn this gown into a major moment on the red carpet. A sleek updo, a red lip to match the red stripe in the skirt, kohl rimmed eyes, red velvet Gianvito Rossi ‘Portofino’ sandals, and a pair of simple gold set vintage Cartier diamond earrings would all turn this look into pure perfection.
The Disaster Artist is star studded and on track to make a great awards season run. I do have myself wondering if any of the female stars will step out on the red carpet for the films gala premiere at the AFI Fest since almost all of them skipped out on the films premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival and they all skipped the San Sebastian Film Festival. Alison Brie was the only female star of the film to join director James Franco in Toronto. Her look was so boring. It just faded into the background, and I was shocked. For the films premiere at the AFI Fest I would love to see Alison go for classic feminine glamour with this rose pink Giambattista Valli Resort 2018 floral lace, sleeveless dress which features a jewel neckline, a drop waist silhouette, and a flared midi length hemline. This dress is classic and elegant and I think a perfect look for an AFI Fest premiere red carpet. I think that if Alison styled this look with old Hollywood waves, a punchy pink lip, defined eyes, simple diamond drop earrings, and a pair of silver Jaggar ‘Lane’ metallic sandals that she will definitely not fade into the background.
Kristen Bell can have some really great red carpet moments so I really want to see her step out at some point to help promote The Disaster Artist and I think that the AFI Fest gala premiere would be a great platform for her to do so. While the AFI Fest doesn’t call for a gown I think that the sassy side of Kristen Bell would come out on the red carpet wearing this Monique Lhuillier Resort 2018 ensemble which consists of a strapless floral embroidered peplum bustier and a pair of slim ankle length pants. I think that this is a chic, feminine, flirty, modern, and sassy look and Kristen would wear it with ease. Pants on the red carpet has been a huge trend and I think that this is a perfect feminine take on that trend. A wavy bob, smokey eye, glossy light pink lip, black and gold Monique Lhuillier tassel detail minaudiere, and a pair of black Giuseppe Zanotti ‘Ada’ gold heel sandals would all ensure that Kristen has a chic return to the red carpet.
Lizzy Caplan also stars alongside James Franco, Josh Hutcherson, Zac Efron, Dave Franco, Alison Brie, Kristen Bell and more in The Disaster Artist. Lizzy, thanks to the help of stylist Ilaria Urbinati, has always been one that I get excited to see on the red carpet, and I am hoping to see her step out to promote this film at some point. If she does step out on the red carpet at the AFI Fest I think that this denim blue Akris Spring 2018 RTW mini dress which features an a-line silhouette with 3-D floral geometric appliques would be such a chic moment for her. Akris is such an underrated brand when it comes to the red carpet and I think that Lizzy would definitely be one that would be able to take this chic, fun, and elegant dress and turn it into such an elegant red carpet moment. A chic curled bob, red lip, indigo blue Judith Leiber Couture satin coffered rectangle clutch, a pair of navy velvet Tony Bianco ‘Karvan’ sandals , and a pair of dainty Fred Leighton diamond drop earrings all would work to ensure that this ensemble is exactly that, elegant.
You can also add Zoey Deutch to the cast of The Disaster Artist that I am also hoping will step out to help support the film. I know I have said that there is a slim chance that we will see couture on the red carpet at the AFI Fest, but there are a few stars who I think could bring the couture factor to the red carpet. Zoey is one of those stars and I think that since the premiere of The Disaster Artist at the 2017 AFI Fest is a gala a couture cocktail dress isn’t entirely out of the question. I think that taking this ivory Ralph & Russo Spring 2017 Couture long sleeve tuxedo dress which features navy blue satin buster and lapels and gorgeous floral scroll embroidery and rocking it for an AFI Fest gala premiere would be a really great moment for Zoey who has become quite the fashionista. This look is sexy to its core and I think that Zoey would infuse high octane glamour to really make this look chic. Taking her long bob and giving it a shorter vintage inspired faux bob, defined kohl rimmed eyes, light pink lips, a pair of navy satin Jimmy Choo ‘Alexa’ crystal brooch embellished pumps, and vintage diamond and sapphire Van Cleef & Arpels ear clips would just add to the sexy glamour of this ensemble.

Mudbound will open the 2017 AFI Festival and it is expected to make a major bid during awards season. Since the promo tour for the film kicked off at the Toronto International Film Festival Carey Mulligan has delivered some really great looks on the red carpet. I am loving all of her looks. She has always been one who to me just scraped by not living up to her potential. She has really made the effort to deliver gorgeous looks from head to toe. Mary J. Blige will have just come off of being honored at the Hollywood Film Awards when Mudbound screens at this years AFI Fest. I am hearing a lot of awards buzz for Mary so I have a feeling that she will be on top form from now until the Oscars. So far at the premieres for Mudbound Mary has only worn black looks on the red carpet. I went outside of that with red for the Hollywood Film Awards, but I am back to black for her for the AFI Fest red carpet. I wasn’t the hugest fan of the Lanvin Spring 2018 RTW collection, but there are a few bright spots that I want to see on the red carpet. One of those looks is this black Lanvin Spring 2018 RTW ensemble which is a strapless evening 
Anya Taylor Joy’s star has slowly started to rise and with the help of stylist Ilaria Urbinati (who dresses Nina Dobrev, Tom Hiddleston, and Krysten Ritter) she has captured the eye of the fashion industry. We often see Anya in brands like Prada, Miu Miu, Gucci, and Dolce & Gabbana. Edgy yet feminine and glamorous creations all the time. Anya will be presenting her film Thoroughbreds at the 2017 AFI Fest after presenting it first at the London Film Festival. For the AFI Fest red carpet I went to the edgier side of Anya’s style picking this black and white Balmain Spring 2018 RTW long sleeve leather midi-dress and a dramatic ruffled hem. On many this gown would be extremely sexy, but I think the overt sex appeal would be toned down due to the fact that Anya doesn’t throw her sex appeal around like the standard member of the Balmain Army. I would keep the styling of this look really sleek with a red lip, kohl rimmed eyes, 
Thoroughbreds also stars another rising star Olivia Cooke, who was a guest of Burberry at the Met Gala earlier this year. Olivia has several projects on the pipeline set to be released and I am really excited to see what she will bring to the red carpets. She has been one that I have kinda followed for a while now and I am really interested in seeing what she will bring to the red carpets as the hype behind her promo tours continues to grow. She wore a feminine and edgy Philosophy di Lorenzo Serafini dress for the London Film Festival premiere of Thoroughbreds and I went for pure feminine elegance for Olivia to wear on the red carpet for the films premiere at the AFI Fest. I think that Olivia would look so chic and lovely wearing this Valentino Spring 2018 RTW 3D floral embroidered cap sleeve shift dress. This dress is very chic and laid back while still being completely event appropriate. I think that this dress perfectly fits Olivia and the events aesthetic perfectly. Zoe Kravitz is always one that I look forward to seeing on the red carpet and when I saw that her film Gemini was selected for the American Independents selection at this years AFI Fest. This has been the little film that could Zoe has been presenting it since the Tribeca Film Festival earlier this year. With that in mind I wonder if she will step out on the red carpet at the AFI Fest, or if the film will run more under the radar. Daisy Ridley burst onto the red carpet scene two years ago almost with a killer promo tour for Star Wars: The Force Awakens and has worn brands like Chanel Couture, Jason Wu, Lela Rose, Roland Mouret, Chloe, Mary Katrantzou, and Giambattista Valli Couture in the past two years. She really is one to watch, and I am really excited to see what her two major promo tours for Star Wars: The Last Jedi and Murder on the Orient Express are going to bring. Michelle Pfeiffer knows how to give sexy, glamorous red carpet moments that come across as elegant instead of trying to hard. It is a hard balance to make when you’re 59 years old. Michelle does it with such ease and sophistication every single time she steps out on the red carpet. I think that for the London premiere of Murder on the Orient Express I would love to see Michelle go for bold shape with this black Cushnie et Ochs Spring 2018 RTW long sleeve pencil dress which features a dramatic ruffled off the shoulder neckline that continues down one sleeve. The dress might be an LBD, but thanks to that dramatic ruffle it is anything but basic. I think that is the key to Michelle’s dressing on the red carpet. She doesn’t wear a whole lot of loud colors or prints, but usually picks much more elevated basics which end up translating to major moments. For this big gala premiere I would love to see Penelope Cruz bring the couture factor to the red carpet. I would probably bet that Penelope will wear custom Atelier Versace, but I decided to go to another of Penelope’s preferred red carpet brands Elie Saab. I think that if Penelope stepped on to the red carpet at this premiere wearing this grey-ish blue Elie Saab Fall 2017 Couture a-line ball gown which features gold beaded embroidery, a feathered skirt, velvet belted waist, and a plunging neckline that she could potentially throw in a late contender for Best Dressed of the Year. I have been waiting to see this gown on a red carpet, and since it missed being pulled for the fall film festivals I would say that it is a major blockbuster premiere or that it will be saved for awards season pulls. I would think that the traditional large platform that a London premiere usually has would ensure that this gown has the grand stage that it deserves and Penelope would definitely be one of the few who would be able to wear this gown and just ooze glamour. I think that Andra would definitely shut this gown down on a red carpet. It could come across as too much for a smaller film awards red carpet, but I think that would be just the prerogative that Andra would be able to bring to the red carpet. Ana de Armas has been a breakout star this year. She was known in the Spanish film world prior to this year, but has made her big Hollywood break with her role in Blade Runner 2049. Readers know there are very few men who I actually feature on my wish lists. We have seen a shift in menswear in Hollywood. While many still wear the requisite black standard tuxedo more and more we are seeing colored suits, prints, metallics, and embellishments on the jackets of Hollywood’s leading men. I honestly used to care less about what guys wore on the red carpet and then came Ryan Gosling. I feel he was one of the first champions of stepping outside of the normative box and dressing with style instead of just going for standard and classic. The cast of Mudbound will receive the Hollywood Breakout Ensemble Award at this years Hollywood Film Awards. The promo tour for Mudbound has been great with me really loving everything that Carey Mulligan has worn since the first premiere in Toronto. I am excited at the potential that Carey will be out promoting the film during awards season. She hasn’t done a full awards season run since her breakout season in 2010 and I know that she has grown so much since then as a style star that we are in for a visual treat if she does get to make a run to vie for awards like the Golden Globes, SAG, BAFTA, and Oscars. The look is very chic and I think that it is just enough for Carey to wear on this red carpet. This season will be the first time Mary could see any award nominations for her acting. Calvin Klein isn’t a designer that we have ever really seen Nieves wearing on the red carpet in the past, but under the creative direction of Raf Simons I have this new renewed sense of the brand and there are so many major moments just waiting to come out of this collection. This red vinyl Calvin Klein Spring 2018 RTW draped and knotted midi dress is perfection and I am dying to see it worn on a red carpet. If Nieves were to finally wear Calvin Klein on the red carpet I feel like this would be a perfect option for her to really bring to life on the red carpet. I feel like many would end up being swallowed by this dress, but I know that Nieves has the presence to wear the dress and not let the dress where her. Nieves was all over the front rows of Milan and Paris scoping out potential red carpet looks. One brand where Nieves is a fixture on the front row is the Elie Saab show. Nieves hasn’t, to my knowledge, worn Louis Vuitton since Nicolas Ghesquiere took over the brand. I have to say that I haven’t really seen her in any of the collections, but when I saw this edgy Louis Vuitton Spring 2018 RTW edgy Versailles style floral print mixed with edgy sculpted leather and bohemian glamour I thought that this look would be a perfect look for Nieves to wear for one of her more casual and breezy red carpet moments. With the fall out of all the Harvey Weinstein allegations so closely tied to Marchesa co-designer Georgina Chapman the fate of the brand in Hollywood is murky. My personal feelings are that she is not him and she and her brand should not be punished for his misgivings and transgressions. I wanted to see Nieves wearing this ruby red Marchesa Spring 2018 RTW one shoulder gown which features gorgeous tulle textured flowers before these allegations came about and I definitely think that it would be amazing on Nieves. She wears drama on the red carpet better than almost anyone and I think that she would look beautiful wearing this gown on a red carpet. Match-y match is the way I would go with the styling for this look with a pair of 
Off-White is the coolest brand and hottest brand out there right now. Virgil Abloh is a creative genius that has constantly delivered something new each season but still been very cohesive at the same time. The Off-White Spring 2018 RTW collection was a modern, urban interpretation of Princess Diana and I can honestly say I was never expecting that cross over, but it worked oh so well. I would love to see Nieves take this black leather top which features white lapels and cuffs and a skirt with a dramatic side split and give it a major moment on the red carpet. I think that it would be a cool look for a Bulgari event or maybe Nieves will sit front row at the next seasons show wearing this design. Last but not least is Versace. This was my favorite show of all of the Spring 2018 RTW collections. It was such an emotional tribute to Gianni Versace and there are so many major moment that could happen on the red carpet. Anna Wintour is no stranger to the red carpet at the Evening Standard Theatre Awards having a true love of theater and with the legacy of her father (whom one of the evenings awards is named after) as the former editor in chief of the Evening Standard she has turned out several times in the last few years. I am always excited to see what Anna will wear on the red carpet and this will be no different. Michael Kors is the platinum sponsor of this years awards and I would bet that at least one person shows up on the red carpet wearing the brand. Anna and Michael have been close friends for years and he is one of the handful of designers that we actually see Anna wear on a red carpet. I went back to the Michael Kors Pre-Fall 2017 collection and this black lace, sleeveless, chain embellished, fit to flare midi dress with a statement collar neckline for a great dress for Anna to wear on the red carpet for this years Evening Standard Theatre Awards. Usually Anna wears full length gowns for this red carpet, and I think that this dress would be gorgeous as a floor length gown as well. I think that this dress would be right up Anna’s alley no matter if she wore the lookbook version, or as a gown. One thing we can always expect to see from Anna on this red carpet is a great coat. I have to say that recently I have been wondering where the magical queen Cate Blanchett has been. I have not loved a single look that she has worn this year and I am hoping that we will see her back on top of her mojo again soon. For the Evening Standard Theatre Awards I went to this beautiful liquid black sequin Giorgio Armani Spring 2018 RTW suit for Cate to rock on the red carpet. The suit is glamour defined and I think that it would put Cate back on top of her game. The look is something I feel like we have seen from her in the past, but I think that it has been long time since she wore the similar design that it would be okay. I want to see Cate round this look out with a simple black Armani satin clutch, a chic curly hairstyle, kohl rimmed eyes, red lips, diamond cluster earrings, and a pair of of 
Ava DuVernay has become a civil right and feminist icon and I absolutely adore her. She is being honored at this event with the John Schlesinger Britannia Awards for Excellence in Directing presented by The Great Britain Campaign. Ava has some amazing style and I am really excited to see what she and stylist Jason Bolden (who also dresses Yara Shahidi and Taraji P. Henson) will pull out for the BAFTA LA Britannia Awards red carpet. Ava loves color and print, for this red carpet I want to see her going for bold color with this 
Claire Foy will be honored with the Britannia Award for British Artist of the Year presented by Burberry. Claire has been up and down with looks that I have liked and looks that I have not this year. She has yet to wow me and I am surprised by that. She has the potential to be a red carpet heavy hitter, but there is always something that puts me off from really loving one of Claire’s looks. I have to say that recently Burberry has suffered in its designs and I honestly really hope that Claire decides not top wear the brand. Instead I decided to go to the recently released lookbook for the Erdem x H&M collection and this gorgeous floral printed gown which honestly still surprises me that it is going to be sold at H&M. When it hits the racks at H&M on November 2, 2017 this dress with retail for just $399 and I think that this would be a great red carpet placement to promote the collection on the back of Claire who has worn Erdem designs for the premiere of The Crown, the Golden Globe Awards, and the Met Gala in the last year. Cate has never attended at LACMA gala in the past, but I think that with the love of Gucci that she has had since Alessandro Michele (as has most of the world) that seeing her in this dramatic, glamorous gown would be a perfect first gala for Cate. I was actually really surprised that Dakota skipped out on the gala last year, but I bet that she will be there this year. Evan Rachel Wood has been one of my favorites to see on the red carpet this year with all of her pantsuits. I am really looking forward to seeing what the rest of the year will bring. Lupita Nyong’o is one who I am sure will be on the red carpet at the LACMA Art + Film Gala. She is a star of the upcoming Star Wars: The Last Jedi and is a friend of the house of Gucci so I would think that she would be the most solid bet to be on the red carpet on this list, aside from Salma Hayek to walk this red carpet. I had originally picked a short brocade dress for Lupita to wear on the red carpet, but then 
Ruth Negga has long been one of my favorite ladies to see on a red carpet since she first emerged at the Cannes Film Festival last year and she had a really stellar awards season. While the frequency of her red carpet appearances have thinned she is still hitting the style game hard with help of stylist Karla Welch as they make mega magic together. Ruth has worn Gucci a few times on the red carpet and when I was watching the Spring 2018 show and I saw this nude tulle and lace midi dress which features a blue crystal encrusted body suit underneath she was the first person I thought of. I love the modern edge that the bodysuit gives to this look, but wonder if stars will stay away from it as it could read a little ice dancer or Vegas showgirl. Salma Hayek is the only person on this list that I would bet money that she will actually walk the red carpet at the LACMA Art + Film Gala next month. As the first lady of Kering, the company that owns Gucci, Salma is always on the arm of her husband François-Henri Pinault (the Chairman and CEO of Kering.) I have to say that knowing Salma she will wear a Gucci gown for this red carpet, but I honestly couldn’t find anything from any of the current runway collection or online stores that I think would be a truly beautiful moment. I would also place a pretty safe bet that the gown that Salma will wear for this red carpet will be custom. If I were forced to pick a runway gown for Salma It would be this black pleated silk gown from the Gucci Spring 2018 RTW collection, but I would modify it. Removing the sleeves and adding a dramatic train would make this look much more fitting for Salma. I think that if those modifications were made and she styled the look with a pair of simple
