While I have predominately been covering the red carpets of major US based awards shows there are some other big red carpets that take place outside the United States. The GOYA Awards are the Spanish equivalent of the Oscars and always deliver a really major red carpet. Spanish stars love dramatic looks on the red carpet, ones that for a typical Hollywood red carpet would seem too risky. That is what I love about the red carpet at the GOYA Awards. Salma Hayek in custom Gucci in 2012, Nieves Alvarez in Stephane Rolland Couture in 2013, and Penelope Cruz in custom Atelier Versace in 2016 are among some of the highlights that have come from this red carpet in the past that have me really excited for this year.Spanish actress Belen Cuesta is nominated for Best Supporting Actress for her performance in the film Holy Camp! and I am interested in seeing what she wears this year. Last year Belen wore a very chic white gown that I still have no idea who designed it, and it was a really chic moment. For this years red carpet I would love to see her give a color moment wear this green Pronovias crisscross halter neck gown which features a side split, chiffon cape like train, and a sweeping train under the cape. The red carpet at the GOYA Awards is a marketing nightmare to me because everything is over-branded from the extremely busy step and repeat to the branded red carpet, so bold color helps stars stand out against such a busy background and I think that this green Pronovias gown would help do just that. Add a chic updo, simple defined eyes, a red lip, gold Christian Louboutin ‘So Kate’ metallic pumps, and a pair of statement emerald, pink and purple tourmaline, and diamond Bulgari chandelier earrings to really ensure this look is head to toe perfection.
I had never heard of The Bookshop which has earned English actress Emily Mortimer a Best Actress nomination at the 2018 GOYA Awards, and then I heard it was going to be screening at the 2018 Berlin International Film Festival next month as well. I find it interesting that the film as a GOYA nomination while it hasn’t had a release yet, but to each awards show their own. Carolina Herrera gowns can usually be seen on the red carpet at the GOYA Awards and I definitely think that Emily would look very chic red Carolina Herrera v-neck evening gown which features a wrap style a-line skirt, cascading side ruffle detail, and a bow on the hip. This gown is classic Carolina and I think that going for something chic and elegant for this red carpet would be a great option for Emily to rock on this red carpet. I would keep the styling simple with a red Roger Vivier crystal pilgrim buckle satin clutch, a sleek updo, simple defined eyes, a light pink lip, a pair of red Stuart Weitzman ‘Rossana’ grosgrain pumps with rose appliqué, and Chopard diamond cluster earrings to really ensure that this is a beautiful monochromatic moment.
Spanish supermodel Nieves Alvarez is always on the GOYA Awards red carpet and delivers major moments from Ralph & Russo, Georges Chakra, and Stephane Rolland. The Stephane Rolland gown that she wore in 2013 topped my Best Dressed of the Year list and the Stephane Rolland gown she wore last year came close to being on the BDOTY list too. No one wears a Stephane Rolland gown like Nieves, and I am PRAYING that she will deliver a really dramatic moment from the designer on the GOYA Awards red carpet again this year. I think that this Stephane Rolland Fall 2017 Couture collection which features a black long sleeve turtle neck bodice, a white skirt with a dramatic train, and white and gold sculpted feather like details is perfection for Nieves for this red carpet. She is literally one of two or three people who I think could wear it, and the only one who I think could make it a Best Dressed of the Year worthy moment. A romantic updo, smokey eyes, matte nude lips, vintage black and white porcelain Bulgari pendant earrings, and a pair of gold Christian Louboutin ‘Aketata’ peep toe platform sandals all would ensure that this look is perfection from head to the toe and really deliver that major moment that I know Nieves is capable of.
Penelope Cruz earned her Best Actress nomination at the GOYA Awards for her performance in Loving Pablo and I am very interested in seeing what she will bring to the red carpet at this years ceremony. In the past Penelope has predominately worn custom Atelier Versace gowns on the GOYA Awards red carpet, but since ACS: The Assassination of Gianni Versace debuted we haven’t seen Versace dress Penelope at all. I turned to a much lesser known designer for Penelope to wear this year with this nude and blue Ziad Nakad Spring 2018 Couture mermaid gown which features long sleeves, a dramatic train attached at the side, and a high off the shoulder neckline. I definitely feel like this gown is a little more dramatic than we are used to seeing stars (other than Nieves) wearing on the GOYA Awards red carpet, but I feel like if anyone could make it work that it would be Penelope. She does drama in the most glamorous way possible, and I think that this would be gorgeous on her. A pair of pleated bisque satin Gianvito Rossi broach buckle sandals, romantic updo, smokey eyes, a pink lip, and a pair of white and yellow diamond Chopard Red Carpet Collection drop earrings all would make sure that this look is the epitome of glamour.
The 2018 GOYA Awards will take place on Saturday February 3, 2018.
