2018 Venice Film Festival: Closing Ceremony Red Carpet Wish List

The 2018 Venice Film Festival kicked off this week in high style and I am really excited to see what all of the stars are going to bring to the red carpet. So far everyone has worn very glamorous looks from all of the favorite brands like Alberta Ferretti, Armani Prive, Prada, Chanel, and Louis Vuitton. The festival will close next Saturday with a screening of the film Driven which stars Lee Pace and Jason Sudekis. Could we see Olivia Wilde jet to Venice to support Jason? It is possible, but to me a little unlikely. In her first two red carpets of the festival as a jury member we have seen Naomi Watts rocking pink looks with a bubblegum pink Armani Prive tired organza column gown and a blush pleated Prada gown. I want to see Naomi close the festival in real glamorous style. My friend Evita sent me this custom Miu Miu gown which she created adding a really dramatic feathered skirt to a strapless bodice with embellishments inspired by a mini dress that walked the runway at the Miu Miu Cruise 2019 collection presentation. I was immediately taken with it and have been waiting for the perfect person to really make this gown a real glamorous statement. This is a little edgier than the typical dress we are used to seeing from Naomi, but I think that it meshes classic glamour and modern edge incredibly well and I think that it would be the perfect statement for her to make at the closing of this festival. Finish the look with a pair of white Gianvito Rossi ‘Poppy’ platform sandals, a sleek updo, defined eyes, soft pink lips, and a selection of Bulgari jewels including art deco diamond fringe earrings and a diamond ‘Serpenti’ cuff bracelet to really make sure this look is nothing but glamour from head to toe. I wanted Cate Blanchett to walk the red carpet at the Opening Ceremony, and while she didn’t walk the red carpet Sara Sampaio delivered the gown I wanted to see Cate wear. Well Cate is in Venice now and is going to be working a red carpet or two promoting Armani Beauty, whom she is the international spokeswoman for, as they are a presenting sponsor of this years festival. I went for a little more of a “risky” gown for Cate to rock on this red carpet picking this Armani Prive Fall 2018 Couture gown which features a black and white ostrich feather and beaded fringe sleeveless blouse and a simple black velvet mermaid skirt with a dramatic train. I really do think that Cate has the effortless statuesque glamour to really make this look come off with ease and elegance. I went with easy styling adding a romantic updo, defined eyes, red lips, black satin Aquazzura crystal embellished d’orsay peep toe pumps, and Harry Winston diamond waterfall earrings to really let the bodice be the focus of this look and ensure that Cate just exudes glamour.

The 2018 Venice Film Festival opens today and runs through Saturday September 8, 2018.

2018 Venice Film Festival: Miu Miu Women’s Tales Celebration Red Carpet Wish List

Every year one day during the festival is full of stars wearing chic Miu Miu ensembles as they celebrate the fashion brands “Women’s Tales” short film series. “Women’s Tales” is an ongoing short film series created by fashion brand Miu Miu. Aside from the stipulation that the films use Miu Miu clothing the all female directors are given carte blanche to create their films. Since 2012, the films have had their world premiere at the Venice Days section of the Venice International Film Festival. We have seen big names like Chloe Sevigny and Ava DuVernay among the female directors who have created film for this series. Aside from the directors and stars of the short films, who are usually rising stars, Miu Miu typically invites its famous Hollywood friends to help celebrate the films. The two films created in this series this year are Dakota Fanning’s directorial debut Hello Apartment and Saudi Arabian director Haifaa Al-Mansour’s The Wedding Singer’s Daughter. Dakota Fanning’s Hello Apartment actually debuted earlier this year with a party held during London Fashion Week with the magazine LOVE. Of course everyone in attendance was decked out head to toe in Miu Miu and I am expecting that to be the case, as it always is, when everyone steps out for the celebrations during the 2018 Venice Film Festival. Usually we don’t have any idea who will jet to Venice for the “Women’s Tales” celebration, but with Dakota’s film I have a little more of an idea. I am expecting to see Dakota on the red carpet while promoting her short. I went for her standard color of eggshell, but I wanted something much more statement making that she usually wears. That is why I went for this 60’s mod style Miu Miu Resort 2019 cocktail dress which features a high neckline and intricate 3D embellishments for Dakota. It is very glamorous and statement making. The “Women’s Tales” red carpets are typically cocktail looks, even for the stars who are in the films that are screening, so I think that this is the ultimate statement moment for Dakota to wear for this premiere. A sleek updo, defined eyes, pink lips, and silver glitter Miu Miu mid-heel sandals would really make this the perfectly chic moment for Dakota. Eve Hewson, daughter of rock star Bono, stars in Hello Apartment and I am expecting to see her jump on a jet to Venice to help promote the film on the red carpet. I want to see Eve deliver a very glamorous look wearing this custom Miu Miu tea length gown. I saw a black scalloped neckline mini dress and lengthened it and added some beautiful silver crystal beading to really make a very chic statement moment for Eve to bring to this red carpet. Her styling is where she can usually loose me and I want to see Eve really style this glamorous moment in the perfect manner. A black velvet Miu Miu crystal and pearl embellished minaudiere, a pair of black satin Miu Miu crystal detail peep toe pumps, a sleek updo, smokey eyes, and nude lips would ensure that this look is absolutely glamorous from head to toe. Since Elle Fanning is Dakota’s biggest fan I would be absolutely shocked if we don’t see Elle make her way to Venice to help celebrate the “Women’s Tales.” I went for a bold color moment for Elle with this red Miu Miu scalloped edge mini dress which features a round halter neck neck, a sleeveless design, scalloped details, a bow detail on the back of the neck. Usually Elle sticks to soft pastel or neutral colors for the red carpet so this would be a real bold moment for her and I think that styling it with a sleek low bun, defined eyes, nude lips, and a pair of red suede Miu Miu crystal buckle mules would make it beautiful statement moment for Elle to bring to this event in Venice. Aside from the Fanning sisters and Eve I am expecting a few other big names to head to Venice with Miu Miu. Suki Waterhouse walked in the star studded Miu Miu Resort 2019 collection and she has a film screening at the festival so it would surprise me if she doesn’t stick around for the “Women’s Tales” celebration during the festival. She has been rocking a lot of 60’s glam looks on the red carpet recently so I decided to keep that going with this light pink floral brocade Miu Miu Fall 2018 RTW pencil dress which features a strapless design, a fitted silhouette, and a mid-length. I can definitely see this as a real 60’s socialite moment on the red carpet especially if Suki styles it with a sleek bouffant style updo, smokey eyes, dark rose pink lips, a silver Miu Miu ‘Lady Matelasse’ bag which features an antique effect buckle encrusted with sparkling crystal and an adjustable shoulder strap, and a pair of silver glitter Miu Miu crystal detail sandals. I definitely think that this would be an extremely chic moment for Suki.

Some of the other stars who I feel are very likely to jet to Venice for the “Women’s Tales” celebration include Stacy Martin, Gwendoline Christie, Mia Goth, Rowan Blanchard, Jamie King, Kate Bosworth, Chloe Sevigny, Sadie Sink, and Uma Thurman. I guess we will just have to wait and see.

The 2018 Venice Film Festival opens Wednesday August 29, 2018 and runs through Saturday September 8, 2018.

2018 Venice Film Festival: “Les Estiavants” Photocall & Premiere Red Carpet Wish List

One of the things I love about film festivals is that they bring some of the stars of international cinema to the red carpet that we don’t usually see in Hollywood. If you don’t produce, direct, or star English language films then the film festival circuit is usually the highest level red carpet that they walk on. International stars can hit the red carpets with more glamour than what we come to expect from the biggest names in Hollywood. I am hoping that will be the case on the red carpet at the premiere of Les Estiavants. Valeria Golino stars in this film and I am very interested in seeing what she will bring to this red carpet. We have seen her rock red carpets at various film festivals in the past wearing gowns from Valentino, Gucci, Prada, and Giorgio Armani. I want to see her really deliver glamour on the red carpet while she promotes Les Estiavants at this years edition of the Venice Film Festival. For the photocall I snatched a pretty typical Gucci dress off the rack at FarFetch with this white 3/4 length sleeve ribbon trimmed shift dress. It is just a very simple and chic look and I think it is definitely something we can expect to see in Venice. I want to see Valeria really make this a very chic moment with red velvet Gucci ‘Web’ stripe ribbon bow detail pumps to make this a perfect photocall moment. For the premiere I went to something very simple yet glamorous with a custom navy Christian Dior Couture gown which features a short sleeve satin bodice and a full tulle ball skirt inspired by the brands Fall 2018 Couture collection. It meshes the ideas from a couple of different looks that I wasn’t a huge fan of as they were presented, but I think that with how they worked when meshed together I really did love. I would have to know that the construction of the satin will be done to perfection, not the puckered mess that came down the Dior Fall 2018 Couture runway. I think that the dark navy color would also help hide some of the imperfections that could arise. I would style it with Valeria’s signature tight curls, defined eyes, red lips, navy Aquazzura ‘Portrait of a Lady’ crystal embellished slingback pumps, and a pair of Christian Dior High Jewelry “Ruban Diamant” cluster earrings in white gold and diamonds to really make this a very glamorous moment on this red carpet. I don’t have many more wishes for Naomi Watts to wear on the red carpet over the course of the 2018 Venice Film Festival where she is on the feature film jury. I couldn’t let these wishes go by without one gown from Givenchy. Since Clare Waight Keller has taken the reigns at Givenchy she has been killing the game dressing everyone from Nicole Kidman to Beyonce to Cate Blanchett to Meghan Markle. We haven’t seen Naomi wearing Givenchy since Clare has taken over, but she was a good friend to the house under Riccardo Tisci. I feel like Venice is the perfect time for Naomi to wear her first Givenchy by Clare design and this metallic gunmetal grey Givenchy Spring 2018 Couture gown which features a camisole bodice, v-neck, belted waist, and a tiered skirt with a sweeping train would be the perfect moment. I’ve loved this gown since it first came down the runway and I am actually really surprised that it made it this far without it being worn. I definitely think that Naomi in this gown on the red carpet in Venice would make for a perfect pairing. Add old Hollywood waves, defined eyes, nude lips, silver satin Gianvito Rossi ‘Portofino’ crystal buckle sandals, and a selection of Bulgari jewels including ‘Diva’s Dream’ diamond stud earrings and a statement ‘Giardini Italiani’ diamond necklace and I think that look would be styled perfectly.

The premiere of Les Estiavants will take place on Wednesday September 5, 2018. The 2018 Venice Film Festival opens Wednesday August 29, 2018 and runs through Saturday September 8, 2018.

2018 Venice Film Festival: “Vox Lux” Photocall & Premiere Red Carpet Wish List

Vox Lux looks like the perfect Black Swan meets club kid kind of movie and I am very interested in seeing what the cast will bring to the red carpet while they promote the film at the 2018 Venice Film Festival. This film may not have any awards season buzz behind it, but the cast has great style. So I feel like we will be in for a very glamorous treat when the step onto the red carpet at the Lido to promote this film.I will say that given her history Natalie Portman could announce that she is pregnant again. The last two times that we have seen Natalie promoting films at Venice she has announced that she has been pregnant. Will she take the red carpet for the first time in Venice without a baby on board? Who knows, but I don’t think she will be. For the Vox Lux photocall I went a more cocktail route picking this mauve and black Viktor & Rolf Sior Resort 2019 crystallized plisse cocktail dress which features a soft tulle overlay, halter neckline and belted waistline. It almost reminds me of early Rodarte pieces and I think that is why I was drawn to it for Natalie. It is one of my more glamorous photocall wishes. It reminds me of the looks that Natalie wore when she was younger, and I definitely think that she would own it. She is a Dior ambassador so I decided that the brand would still be represented in this photocall ensemble with a pair of black Christian Dior ‘D-Choc’ high heeled pumps in black mesh and suede calfskin in an eye motif. Finishing the look with a romantic updo, defined eyes, and pink lips would make this look elegant perfection. For the premiere I went the custom route for Natalie. She does classic glamour with ease and I think that she would own the red carpet at the premiere wearing this navy Christian Dior Couture off the shoulder gown which features a belted waist and a pleated mermaid hem. The glamour of the look would be perfectly complimented with a sleek bouffant style updo, defined eyes, blush pink lips, a pair of black Christian Dior ‘D-Mesure’ crystal eye motif slingback pumps, and Dior High Jewelry “Milieu du Sickle Diamant” earrings in white gold and diamonds. It would all make for a very glamorous return to Venice for Natalie.Stacy Martin has been experimenting with her fashion options recently. Everything used to be Prada or Miu Miu for her, but this year she has worn so many other amazing brands. She has Vox Lux in main competition and her film Amanda in the Orizzonti section, so I am really interested in seeing what she will bring to the red carpet yet. I want to see Stacy go to her comfort zone for this photocall with this Prada Resort 2019 ensemble which features an orange and gold embroidered brocade short sleeve top with a ruffle accent across the chest and metallic threading throughout the pattern and a pink and gold brocade mini skirt with a matching wide buckle belt and metallic stitching throughout the intricate pattern. She has had some of her best looks from Prada and I definitely think that this ensemble is something she would get into. A half up/half down teased hairstyle, defined eyes, nude lips, and a pair of coral Prada scalloped block heel platform sandals would make this look perfection. For the premiere I went to one of the brands I most want to see on the Venice Film Festival red carpet is No. 21 and I definitely think that the brand suits Stacy’s style. She has worn a few looks from the brand in the past and I think that she would definitely own the red carpet wearing a modified No. 21 Resort 2019 silver sequin embellished one shoulder gown which features a dramatic pink bow on the shoulder. This gown is inspired by a mini dress from this collection and I think that Stacy will own this dress as a gown on the Venice Film Festival red carpet. It is bold and dazzling moment. Definitely something a little more disco than we are used to seeing Stacy rocking on the red carpet, but I think that she would own this moment especially when paired with a pink Prada satin box clutch, silver Prada ‘Pearly’ leather sandals, a romantic updo, defined eyes, and pink lips.I have picked lots of glamorous gowns for Naomi Watts to wear over the course of this festival. Most of them are floor length or have dramatic trains, but I do think that we will see Naomi wear at least one tea length gown on the red carpet. I went back to last falls collections and picked this very chic black Chanel Fall 2017 Couture tea length silk gown which features a plunging neckline, knotted detail on the neckline, peplum like detail on the hips, crystal buttons, and a sheer beaded hem to be the perfect shorter option for Naomi to bring to life on this red carpet. I am really surprised that no one has snatched this gown up yet and I think that if anyone could really make this a very chic moment on the red carpet it would be Naomi. I think it would be styled oh so chic-ly with a romantic updo, defined eyes, red lips, a black satin Chanel clutch, black satin Manolo Blahnik ‘Nadira’ jeweled satin pumps, and a Bulgari ‘Parentesi’ diamond link necklace to make this a very chic moment for the festival juror.

The premiere of Vox Lux will take place on Tuesday September 4, 2018. The 2018 Venice Film Festival opens Wednesday August 29, 2018 and runs through Saturday September 8, 2018.

2018 Venice Film Festival: “The Quietude” Photocall & Premiere Red Carpet Wish List

In terms of glamour the Venice Film Festival ranks right below Cannes for me. From the main competition to the sidebars the red carpets are usually chock full of glamorous gowns. The Orizzonti section of the festival is usually full of unknown rising talent, but this year there are a few films with names of stars who can really make a fashionable splash on the red carpet. Berenice Bejo became a major star when she earned a nomination for Best Supporting Actress in 2011 for her performance in The Artist. She is absolutely stunning and rocks some of the best brands on the red carpet. This year in Venice she will promote her film The Quietude and I want her to do it in high style. I went full fledged couture for Berenice to wear this awards season. For the photocall I went to this gold, sage, and pink metallic thread plaid Giambattista Valli Fall 2018 Couture double breasted suit. It is a real statement suit and one that I don’t think that we are used to seeing during a Venice Film Festival photocall, but I think that Berenice could make it a very easy glam moment. I would ditch the chiffon printed top in favor of going bare chested, easy waves, defined eyes, rose pink lips, and a pair of gold Christian Louboutin ‘Hollandway’ buckled strappy slingback pumps to really ensure that this look is glamour defined from head to toe. For the premiere I went even more glamorous with this Alexis Mabille Fall 2018 Couture bustier fit to flare sheath gown in fuchsia crepe with an off the shoulder satin cape. It is absolutely glamorous moment and I feel like on the red carpet on the Lido that this gown when paired with a romantic updo, defined eyes, matching fuchsia lips, cabaret pink Aquazzura ‘Coquette’ velvet and satin platform sandals, and a pair of Chopard Red Carpet Collection earrings with pink quartz, rubellites, and diamonds in 18k white gold.

The premiere of The Quietude will take place on Sunday September 2, 2018. The 2018 Venice Film Festival opens Wednesday August 29, 2018 and runs through Saturday September 8, 2018.

2018 Venice Film Festival: “The Favourite” Photocall & Premiere Red Carpet Wish List

The Venice Film Festival is really the first stop for some major awards season contenders this year, as it usually is. The Favourite is definitely garnering some early buzz and I am very excited to see what the stars of the film may bring to the red carpet. I only have one in this list because I don’t really have any idea of what to pick for Olivia Coleman (I’m hoping this will bring some idea as to looks for her in the future) and Rachel Weisz is VERY pregnant so I don’t think that she will be on this red carpet. So I wonder what this red carpet may bring. Emma Stone has a fantastic track record in Venice. She has been twice and both times her premiere ensemble has made my Best Dressed of the Year list. The first time was in 2014 when she wore a dark green Valentino Couture tulle gown for the opening ceremony premiere of Birdman and again on the red carpet in 2016 she was ever so glamorous wearing a mermaid-esque Atelier Versace gown for the premiere of La La Land. I am really excited to see what Emma will bring this year. She is a face of Louis Vuitton and has been a very loyal ambassador, like all the others, but I want to see her not give head to toe LV looks for all of her looks in Venice this year. For the photocall I went to a brand that has been very underrated recently, Antonio Berardi. The British designer used to be a red carpet regular dressing everyone from Amy Adams to Emmy Rossum and more, but recently we haven’t seen much of his designs in a while. I think that this 80’s like Antonio Berardi Resort 2019 patchwork coat dress which features a belted waist and ruffled skirt is something that Emma would definitely be able to sell to me on the red carpet. The 80’s are having a major moment on the runways for Fall 2018 and I think that giving this a totally 80s moment with permed curls, defined eyes, nude lips, and a pair of nude and white Louis Vuitton ‘Matchmake Cross’ chunky heel pumps would make for a great photocall moment for Emma. I expect that beyond a shadow of a doubt that for the premiere of The Favourite that we will see Emma wearing a custom Louis Vuitton gown. I have many, many custom Louis Vuitton gowns to use in my wishes and many options for Emma specifically. I would love to see Emma bring something like this black custom Louis Vuitton gown which features a black and white abstract print sequin embroidered bodice (using a fabric we saw on the Louis Vuitton Cruise 2019 collection runway) paired with a black velvet mermaid skirt to this red carpet. Would a black gown make my Best Dressed of the Year list? Depends on how it is presented. I think that Emma has the grace and glam to really breathe life into a simple black gown and that is what could make this a major fashion moment for this red carpet. The styling is also really important and I think that a sleek updo, defined eyes, bold matte red lips, a pair of black monogrammed lace Louis Vuitton ‘Afterdark’ ankle strap pumps, and a selection of Louis Vuitton High Jewelry diamond and emerald art deco jewels would all really ensure that this look is everything glamour is supposed to be from head to toe. Taylor Swift’s boyfriend Joe Alwyn also stars in The Favourite. The two have kept a very low profile since they started dating in November 2016 and they have not had an official red carpet outing since they started dating. In fact Taylor made her first red carpet appearance since she started dating Joe back in May at the Billboard Music Awards. I don’t expect to see Taylor walking the red carpet on Joe’s arm like we have seen Amal Clooney, Naomi Watts, and Luciana Damon doing on the Venice red carpet in the past. She does have a stop on her Reputation stadium tour the next day in Minneapolis, Minnesota so if Taylor did jet into Venice to support Joe it would have to be a quick trip. In the hay day of her very public relationships that would be totally expected, but to sneak in a back door I wouldn’t be surprised if Taylor doesn’t make an appearance. If she does I would love to see Taylor rocking this metallic rose-gold Ralph & Russo Spring 2018 Couture strapless silk lamé gown which features a thigh-high leg split and asymmetric draping. It is a simple and glamorous gown that is perfect for a Venice Film Festival movie premiere plus one. Finishing this ensemble with a romantic updo, defined eyes, dark rose pink lips, a rose gold Kotur ‘Espey’ clutch, rose gold Sophia Webster ‘Rosalind’ gem studded vinyl strap sandals, and a pair of David Morris white and pink diamond chandelier earrings would really make this look perfection from head to toe. It would really surprise me if at least one look that Naomi Watts wears on the red carpet at the Venice Film Festival doesn’t come from Roland Mouret. I went the custom route for her with this very glamorous one shoulder mermaid gown which features silver sequin stripe inspired by a jumpsuit I found on The Outnet. This very glamorous gown is dramatic and statement making. It has been a long time since we have seen a dramatic gown like this from Roland Mouret in a long time and I think that for Naomi in Venice that this moment would be more than perfect. I found a multi-tone grey stripe Judith Leiber Couture ‘Fizzoni’ crystal encrusted clutch that I think would match the stripes on the bodice perfectly. Adding a sleek low bun, smokey eyes, nude lips, a pair of black Christian Louboutin ‘Uptown’ pointed toe d’orsay pumps, and a pair of diamond, sapphire, and onyx ribbon detail Bulgari High Jewelry cluster earrings would all ensure this look is just another perfectly glamorous moment for Naomi over the course of this festival.

The premiere of The Favourite will take place on Thursday August 30, 2018. The 2018 Venice Film Festival opens Wednesday August 29, 2018 and runs through Saturday September 8, 2018.

2018 Venice Film Festival: “Charlie Says” Photocall & Premiere Red Carpet Wish List

There are quite a few big names of stars who have films screening in the Orizzonti section of this years Venice Film Festival. This is a selection is an international competition dedicated to films that represent the latest aesthetic and expressive trends in international cinema, similar to the Un Certain Regard selection during the Cannes Film Festival. I was surprised by how many stars have films screening in this selection this year just because these movies are typically emerging orators. Supermodel and actress Suki Waterhouse is expected to promote her film Charlie Says in the Orizzonti section of the festival this year. She is no stranger to Venice, or this competition, as she owned the red carpet for the premiere of her film The Bad Batch two years ago with a beautiful pink Dolce & Gabbana gown. This year I went a different route for Suki. She has been working with Rob Zangardi and Mariel Haenn and going a very 60’s glam route with her looks. I wanted to keep that same glamour but go a little left. So for the Charlie Says photocall I went with a statement patchwork printed Mary Katrantzou Fall 2018 RTW dress which features an asymmetric neckline, long sleeves, and an asymmetric flared hem. It is a very glamorous statement I I think that Suki would be able to sell it to me with ease especially when styled with a wavy hairstyle, defined eyes, red lips, and a pair of red Versace sky high stiletto sandals. For the premiere I went a much more relaxed route picking this lilac Alexis Mabille Fall 2018 Couture a-line sack gown which features lime pimping, a v-neckline, rise and fall hem, drop waist, and slashed batwing sleeves. I saw many looks from brands that we are used to seeing Suki wearing on the red carpet, but I don’t know what it was about this gown that just kept drawing me back to it. It is one of my favorite gowns from the fall couture collections and I really do think that Suki has the effortless ease to really make this gown a statement moment on the red carpet. I would pair it with a 60’s bouffant style updo, defined winged eyes, rose pink lips, simple diamond stud earrings, and a pair of barely blush pink Giuseppe Zanotti ‘Madelyn’ crystal chandelier embellished mules to really ensure that this look is nothing but glamour head to toe.

The premiere of Charlie Says will take place on Sunday September 2, 2018. The 2018 Venice Film Festival opens Wednesday August 29, 2018 and runs through Saturday September 8, 2018.

2018 Venice Film Festival: Franca Sozzani Award Gala Red Carpet Wish List

Last year the during the Venice Film Festival the Franca Sozzani Award was given inaugurally to Julianne Moore at a star studded gala. The award, given in the name of the late VOGUE Italia editor-in-chief,  recognizes women who stand out for both their artistic careers and their social commitment. This year the award is being given to the one and only Salma Hayek. Last years red carpet was incredibly windy and made for some very dramatic photos of Julianne, Donatella Versace, and Karolina Kurkova. It also caused a wardrobe malfunction or two. While the wind made for dramatic photos I’m hoping this years red carpet is a little less windy, but just as glamorous. When it comes to dressing for the red carpet we can almost expect to see Salma Hayek wearing one of the brands that her husband’s brand Kering owns. The most likely would be Gucci, but I have to say that even with all the custom pieces I have dreamed up nothing really stood out to me. I am actually really fatigued with only seeing Salma wearing Gucci. She surprised me when she showed up on the Met Gala red carpet earlier this year wearing a forest sequin printed custom Altuzarra gown, especially since Kering only owns a small minority stake in the company. I decided to look at motifs from the brand and found a very chic red, black, and gold geometric embroidery on the blazer of a look from the Saint Laurent Spring 2019 Menswear collection that I love. This embroidery could be really remarkable as a custom gown from the brand and that is exactly what I did in choosing it for Salma. I took it and turn it into a strapless bustier bodice that I attached to a gold ruched lamé flowing skirt and I definitely think that it would be a glamorous moment for Salma. I think it would take the inherent sexiness of Anthony Vaccarello’s direction of Saint Laurent and glamorize it for Salma in the most perfect way possible. I kept the accessories for this look in the Kering family as well opting to pair this gown with a black and gold Saint Laurent ‘Tuxedo ‘logo detail box clutch, a pair of two tone gold Saint Laurent ‘Amber’ sandals, and vintage Boucheron diamond and ruby drop earrings. Finishing the look with glamorous old Hollywood waves, defined smokey eyes, and red lips all would really ensure that this is one Salma;s best red carpet moments in a long time. Last year none of the members of the Venice Film Festival’s jury attended this gala. It is presided over by a separate panel headed by Franca’s son and many fashion industry insiders. I would love to see Naomi Watts on this red carpet this year thought. I want her to really have the full spectrum of gorgeous looks this year during her run as a member of the festivals jury and I think that for this official event that if Naomi showed up on the red carpet wearing this nude and black Christian Dior Fall 2018 Couture strapless tea length dress which features dramatic 3D floral rosettes and a defined belted waist. This is one of the few dresses from this collection that really captivated me and I think that if anyone could make this a very chic and glamorous moment it would be Naomi. Styling the look with a romantic updo, defined eyes, soft pink lips, a black Jimmy Choo ‘Cloud’ minaudiere embellished with 3D gold spheres, a pair of black Jimmy Choo ‘Sacora’ sandals also embellished with the spheres, and vintage gold set Bulgari diamond cluster earrings all would ensure that this look is glamour defined from head to toe.

The Franca Sozzani Award gala will take place on Friday August 31, 2018. The 2018 Venice Film Festival opens Wednesday August 29, 2018 and runs through Saturday September 8, 2018.

2018 Venice Film Festival: “Suspiria” Photocall & Premiere Red Carpet Wish List

There is only one set of wishes today for the in competition premiere of Luca Guadagnino’s film Suspiria which is a remake of a 1977 film of the same name directed by Dario Argento. This film is probably the most star studded film in the whole selection this year and I am praying to the fashion and celebrity gods that the most of the fashionistas in this film make a b-line for the canals of Venice and walk the red carpet on the Lido for the first premiere of the film. This will be the first time Dakota Johnson has been back to Venice after she promoted two films at the festival in 2015. She has grown a lot since then in terms of her style and I am really interested in seeing what she might bring to these red carpets this year. I think I found two absolutely gorgeous looks for Dakota that will really continue to ensure that her style continues to grow. The look I would love to see Dakota rock for the photocall is all about color with this bright green Calvin Klein silk asymmetric tie sleeve dress which features a round neck, an asymmetric style, a shift silhouette, a back button fastening, a mid-length and long sleeves which I would pair with orange Calvin Klein mid heel asymmetrical crystal strap mid heel sandals. It is a really bold yet very effortlessly chic ensemble, but I think that it would be a really major chic moment for Dakota. I would finish it with a loose bohemian updo, defined eyes, and nude lips to really let the dress and shoes be the focus of the look. On the red carpet at the premiere I would really be surprised if Dakota wore anything other than something from Gucci. I have to admit that there haven’t been any really major fashion moments on the Gucci runway so I looked at details with my favorite photo editor Evita from For The Love Of Red Carpet Fashion and we came up with this black sleeveless custom Gucci fit and flare gown. It has a feathered hem and beaded embroidery inspired by an almost costume like gown from the Gucci Fall 2018 RTW collection. While that gown was overly dramatic (I don’t know if even someone like Lady Gaga could make it work) but I think that this tame gown inspired by the details of that gown really is perfect for Dakota to wear on this red carpet. I think that with a sleek updo, defined eyes, red lips, black Gucci leather bow details sandals, and paying homage to the gown with a pair of Tiffany & Co. diamond and green tsavorite tassel earrings that this is a very glamorous moment for Dakota.Tilda Swinton is a Venice veteran and of anyone in this cast I am probably most hoping that she will jaunt to the romantic Italian water locked city and promote this film. I love a good Swinton sighting and her style is this perfect mix of androgyny and femininity and there are just so many great options for her to bring to this red carpet. For the photocall I went to couture. This isn’t Cannes. We don’t really see stars wearing couture during the day in Venice, but if anyone could wear couture with the effortless ease needed for the daytime it would be Tilda. As I watched the Christian Dior Fall 2018 Couture show, bored out of my mind, there were a few moments that I really did get excited about the idea of. One of those moments was this black and nude Christian Dior Fall 2018 Couture ankle length dress which features an asymmetrical pinafore and long sleeve chiffon dress mixed together. This is that perfect balance of structure and not that I think would make for a very chic photocall moment for Tilda. I think that if she paired it with sleek hair, simple makeup, and a pair of black and gold Christian Dior ‘Surreal-D’ tulle and leather pointed toe pumps that this would be a really modern and chic moment. For the premiere I went more down the avant garde route picking this dusty mauve and emerald green Valentino Fall 2018 Couture gown which features a high turtleneck neckline, a caped back, slashes for armholes, and a sequin band at the hem. I loved just about everything from this collection and I definitely think that if anyone could really make this gown work on a red carpet it would the the statuesque Swinton. She knows how to command these more avant garde looks without them wearing her and that is exactly what this gown needs. In fact the gown is such a statement I think that with barely there makeup, a sleek hairstyle, and green satin Roger Vivier flower strass buckle pumps that this look would be head to toe perfection. I haven’t loved a Chloe Grace Moretz red carpet moment in a really long time so I am hoping that with a major platform like the Venice Film Festival that she really rises to the occasion. For her Venice debut I went to two of the brands that Chloe typically wears on the red carpet. For the photocall I think that going to Louis Vuitton, whom Chloe has been a very good friend to, and this Cruise 2019 dress which looks like a two piece ensemble and features a red silk long peasant sleeve blouse style top and a pink, orange, white, and teal floral mini skirt with button details. This dress isn’t my favorite look to be completely honest, but I think that it is something that Chloe would be drawn to and for a Venice photocall it would work. I would pair it with Louis Vuitton ‘Black Hart’ sandals to add another fun touch to this look and chic waves would really make this a perfect photocall ensemble. For the premiere I changed designers and upped the glamour a whole lot. We have never seen Chloe have a princess moment on the red carpet and when I saw this black and nude tulle Christian Dior Spring 2017 Couture draped ballgown which features pressed flower embroidery I thought it would be a perfect idea for her to have her first moment. The only hesitation that I have about making this wish is that it is similar to a gown from the same collection that Dior ambassador Jennifer Lawrence wore on the red carpet in Venice last year. That could be a turnoff to making this happen, but I think it would be the perfect gown for her to wear for this premiere. Pair it with a loose updo, smokey eyes, nude lips, a pair of dark rose pink satin Jimmy Choo ‘Thassia’ sandals, and a nod to Louis Vuitton with a pair of diamond, mother of pearl, and ruby floral drop earrings from the brands high jewelry collection to really ensure that Chloe has a very glamorous moment for her Venice debut. I am really excited about what we will see from Naomi Watts over the course of the 2018 Venice Film Festival as she takes in all the films as a member of this years jury. I looked at a bevy of brands looking at both full on runway looks and custom pieces based on pieces from the brands that she loves. One of the custom gowns I would most like to be seen made for Naomi is this silver custom Calvin Klein by Appointment gown. To create this gown I looked way back in the Calvin Klein archives. When Raf Simons was at Dior he put his spin on many pieces that already sat inside of the houses iconic archive, so I thought why not go hunting for Calvin Klein pieces from when Calvin Klein was designed by Calvin Klein and see what could be modernized. I found a silver stripe embroidered mesh strapless cocktail dress from the 1990’s on 1stDibs and was immediately inspired. I turned it into a full length column gown and added a dramatic white bow with a bit of a trail on the shoulder. I would want to see Raf, instead of using that embroidered mesh to make the stripes of the gown, use beads to create that same effect. The style is definitely something that reminds me of what Raf has done with his custom gowns for the red carpet so far so while this doesn’t use details from his collections I think it is perfect for this red carpet. I think that pairing this gown with a white velvet Tyler Ellis ‘Lily’ faceted clutch, a romantic updo, defined eyes, red lips, silver glitter Calvin Klein asymmetrical crystal band sandals, and a pair of modern geometric Bulgari diamond, emerald, and sapphire earrings would really make this a beautiful moment on this red carpet.

2018 Venice Film Festival: “Amanda” Photocall & Premiere Red Carpet Wish List

Welcome to my first day of two set of wish list days for the 2018 Venice Film Festival. There are so many films that are set to deliver many beautiful red carpet moments over the course of this festival. Aside from the films in the main competition and the gala out of competitions there are also some heavy fashion hitters who have films screening in the Orizzonti selection of this years edition. Stacy Martin has a few films that she will be promoting over the course of festival season and I have to say that I am really excited to see what she will bring. There was a time when I would have expected nothing other than Prada or Miu Miu. This year she has given us other options of designers and I have spread them out over my wishes for her to rock this year. She rocked the red carpet in Cannes wearing Dior Couture earlier this year, and for her to rock for the Amanda photocall I went back to Dior. Instead of couture though I decided that this patchwork Christian Dior Fall 2018 RTW scarf print midi dress which features long sleeves and ruffled details all would make for a really chic photocall moment for Stacy. Rarely does Dior dress a star and allow them not to not have a head to toe look. I just don’t want Stacy to have the head to toe runway look. I would ditch the wide belt and the black heavy boots from the runway in favor of black suede Christian Dior ‘Bright-D’ d’orsay sandals with a crystal ankle strap, a loose updo, and simple makeup to really make this a very chic moment for a Venice photocall. For the premiere I did turn back to Prada. I designed a custom gown based on a Prada dress I found on YOOX. I took the bodice of that dress which features 3D abstract beading and an inverted pink waist and paired it with a burgundy pleated silk chiffon skirt. It gives a modern take on that glamorous flapper style dressing and I definitely think that Stacy would own this dress on the red carpet. More glamorous styling with a black satin Prada crystal embellished floral drawstring pouch, a pair of black Prada crystal embellished slingback sandals, a sleek updo, defined eyes, burgundy lips, and a pair of vintage Cartier art deco drop earrings would really make this the perfect modern flapper moment.
