2019 Golden Globe Awards Red Carpet Wish List Part 4

Before I settle in for my traditional night of binge watching movies and gorging myself on rose and appetizers to ring in the new year I have one more set of wishes to bring you. We are just six days out from the 2019 Golden Globe Awards and I am really excited about what all the stars are going to bring to the red carpet this year. I looked back at my Best Dressed of the Year lists from the last eight years and half of them featured a look from the Golden Globe Awards red carpet. After a major year last year I have high expectations for what all the stars are going to bring to the red carpet this year. I want to see so many moments that stick in the back of my mind when it comes time to write that Best Dressed of the Year list that I struggle to narrow down just one look for that ultimate list. Kicking off this list is Outlander star Caitriona Balfe whom is nominated for Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series – Drama, for her performance in the show. I know Caitriona has the potential to deliver some really major moments. I loved the tea length Chanel Couture gown she wore for the 2018 Globes red carpet. Since then she has swapped her stylists and is now working with the 2018 Stylist of the Year Karla Welch. They haven’t had a major high profile red carpet together yet, so I am really excited to see what the two are cooking up for the Golden Globe Awards red carpet. While there are numerous current season couture, and non couture options, that I think are perfect for Caitriona to bring to life on this red carpet I decided to go into the archive and opt for this rose pink Giambattista Valli Fall 2017 Couture one shoulder draped goddess gown which features a 3-D floral cape and a flowing train for her. I have been in love with this gown since it first came down the runway in July of 2017 and I am shocked that it hasn’t been worn yet. It does need a tall statuesque woman to really push through it and I definitely think that Caitriona has what it takes to really work on the red carpet. I think that with a sleek updo, defined eyes, soft pink lips, rose pink glitter Aquazzura strappy stiletto sandals, and a pair of vintage Cartier diamond and pink sapphire floral ear clips that this would be one of Caitriona’s best red carpet looks ever.Debra Messing knows how to deliver really glamorous moments on the red carpet and I am interested in seeing what she will bring to the red carpet at the 2019 Golden Globe Awards where she is nominated for Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series – Comedy for her role in Will & Grace. Do I think that Debra will take home the Globe? Probably not, but I do want to see her bring the glam to the red carpet no matter what. She loves herself a Christian Siriano gown and so I decided to go to her favorite designer for the perfect gown for her to wear on the Golden Globe Awards red carpet. Debra has a beautiful hourglass curve to her body and I think it would be accentuated perfectly with this lavender and black Christian Siriano Pre-Fall 2019 bustier mermaid gown which features a straight neckline, fitted at bust, a draped hip detail, and a fluted hem. Typically I wouldn’t pick a gown with padding on the hips for any woman who isn’t a size 0, but Christian knows how to make that draping perfect for any woman. He is the designer for any woman who has curves, no matter what size, that wants to feel glamorous. I definitely think that he would ensure that the proportions of this gown would fit Debra’s frame perfectly. I definitely think that the lavender bodice would compliment Debra’s skin tone and hair color. Adding old Hollywood waves, smokey eyes, soft pink lips, black satin Bottega Veneta ‘Intrecciato’ woven knot clasp clutch, black glitter Stuart Weitzman ‘Nudist’ sandals, and a selection of Fred Leighton necklaces two diamond worn around one amethyst (in the photo it has two amethyst I would leave the top one at the boutique) would ensure that this look is just glamour defined from head to toe. Glenn Close is another front runner in the Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture – Drama category for her performance in The Wife. I think that it will most likely go to Lady Gaga and her performance inĀ A Star Is Born, but so far the two have shared honors at other awards events. For Sunday’s Golden Globe Awards red carpet I decided on something simple and chic opting for this black jersey Burberry Spring 2019 RTW long sleeve gown which features an asymmetrical cape like draped bodice. I don’t expect Glenn to deliver something incredibly bold on this red carpet, but I definitely think that this chic gown would be perfect for her. I definitely think that between Glenn or Olivia Coleman that this gown is bound to be worn on an awards season red carpet and why not bring it to like on the Golden Globes red carpet. I think that a black satin Judith Leiber Couture tall slender art deco box clutch, simple black Manolo Blahnik classic half d’orsay pointed toe pumps, her chic curled short hair, defined eyes, nude lips, and simple antique Edwardian diamond teardrop earrings from Beladora all would make this a very chic and glamorous moment for Glenn to wear on this red carpet. Mahershala Ali is one of the few guys nominated for a Golden Globe Award whom I decided I would feature in my wishes this year. He can bring some really interesting takes on menswear to the red carpet. He usually pushes the boundaries subtly. I decided to keep that the vibe for this years Golden Globes red carpet I want to see the Best Supporting Actor in a Motion Picture nominee to give us crisp elegance on this red carpet wearing this Givenchy Pre-Fall 2019 suit which features a coat like blazer with a color blocked lapel paired with a crisp white button down worn all the way up and sans tie. The little bit of white on the lapel adds just enough visuality to this look for Mahershala. If executed with precision styling I definitely think that this could be a major Best Dressed Menswear moment. His signature flat top, black tuxedo pants, and black patent leather boots all would add those perfect finishing touches to this look. Patricia Clarkson is nominated for Best Performance by a Supporting Actress in a Series, Miniseries or Television Film for her role in the HBO miniseries Sharp Objects at this years Golden Globe Awards. She has rocked so many age defying looks on the red carpet over the last year and I am really excited to see what she and her stylist Victor Blanco are cooking up for awards season. When Patricia was first nominated for a Golden Globe I commented on Victor’s Instagram post congratulating his client and he responded saying that he already had the dress and that it was couture. It got me excited so I only looked at couture labels when I was looking for the perfect gown for Patricia to wear on the Golden Globe Awards red carpet. I decided to go back to one of my favorite archive Elie Saab gowns, that I am still shocked hasn’t been worn. I fell in love with this navy and gold long sleeve mermaid gown when it first came down the Elie Saab Fall 2014 Couture runway. It is that perfect meshing of glamour and sex appeal via the sheer construction, square neckline, intricate beaded embroidery, fit and flare silhouette, and sweeping train. I have put this gown on many of my red carpet wishes and I am eagerly awaiting the star that finally pulls it out of the archive and onto the red carpet. Her signature waves, defined eyes, red lips, a pair of black and gold Malone Souliers bow detail ankle wrap d’orsay pumps, and simple LeVian aquamarine, white and chocolate diamond teardrop earrings would all ensure this is a very major moment for the actress. Coming off her Emmy Award win it would seem like Thandie Newton is the favorite to take home the Best Performance by a Supporting Actress in a Series, Miniseries or Television Film trophy for her role in the HBO series Westworld. I have always loved seeing Thandie on the red carpet. In fact the custom Monse gown that she wore for the 2017 Golden Globe Awards made my Best Dressed of 2017 list. I want to see her bring bold glamour to this red carpet yet again opting for this navy blue and yellow silk satin Schiaparelli Fall 2018 Couture gown which features a single sleeve, asymmetrical neckline, column skirt, and layered train. I love Thandie in Schiaparelli and I definitely think that this gown would look absolutely fantastic against Thandie’s skin tone. I would keep the look incredibly glamorous with a sleek updo, smokey eyes, soft antique rose pink lips, yellow Giuseppe Zanotti ‘Sofia’ slingback sandals, and a pair of Dior Haute Jewelry white and yellow diamond pendant drop earrings would all ensure that this is another bold, modern glamorous moment from Thandie.

The 2019 Golden Globe Awards will take place on Sunday January 6, 2019.

2019 Golden Globe Awards Red Carpet Wish List Part 3

bg6’fAs I went to schedule this post at 1:45 A.M. last night WordPress decided to tell me the link had expired and deleted everything that I had written. So at 2:00 A.M. I went back to square one found all the links for the pieces I had styled the six looks in this list with and started writing, AGAIN. I’m not salty though. While this post goes live I am probably still sleeping which means I will be able to stay awake to actually ring in the new year. If we weren’t just SIX DAYS away from the 2019 Golden Globe Awards I don’t know if I would have stayed up even later than I had already stayed up and re-written this post. But since we are still on the front end of all my wishes for this years red carpet I knew I needed to power through. So here we go, again more me. There has been a lot of buzz that this year Amy Adams might ride awards season to the Oscars at the end of awards season on a winning streak. Something inside me says differently. I haven’t seen VICE yet, but I think that honors and nominations say that Regina King might be the lock for that little gold man this year. I do however want to see Amy bring her red carpet a-game over the course of awards season, because she is definitely (from what I’ve read) that this is going to be a two horse race. She will almost definitely win though in the Best Performance by an Actress in a Miniseries or Television Film category for her role inĀ Sharp Objects. I decided that I wanted DRAMA from her on the Globes red carpet this weekend opting for this plum purple Elie Saab Fall 2018 Couture one shoulder gown which features a dramatic ruffled bodice, peplum waist, column skirt, and a long a-line train. I love this color on Amy. It has been a while since we have see her wearing it though. I feel in love with this combination when Amy wore a custom Giambattista Valli gown in the tone for the 2009 SAG Awards. Since then she hasn’t brought us this tone and since it has been 10 years since that moment, still one of my favorites that she has worn before, I thought that this gown and this red carpet would be the perfect formula for her to really bring us a major moment. I love a redhead in purple, much like I do sapphire blue and emerald green, so this just sounds like a match made in heaven especially when styled with matching plum Schutz t-bar strap pointed toe pumps, a sleek updo, smokey eyes, soft pink lips, and a pair of vintage 1920’s Cartier amethyst and white enamel drop earrings. I am wondering if Constance Wu will be able to keep a pace to make the Best Actress in a Motion Picture – Musical/Comedy category a three horse race with Olivia Colman from The Favourite and Emily Blunt from Mary Poppins Returns. I am hoping so because I really want to see Constance shine one the red carpet after being super disappointed with her looks during the promo tour for Crazy Rich Asians, which is the film which earned her this nomination. The looks during that tour didn’t fit and I want perfection from Constance as she gets through awards season. I wanted to kick off the season with a bold moment so I opted to put Constance in this hot pink Armani Prive Fall 2018 Couture strapless gown which features a sweetheart neckline, corseted bodice, rosette detail draped gathered skirt, and sweeping train. I love this gown and I definitely think that Constance could sell it to me. I would ask the team at Armani if they could remove the attached tulle shawl because I do think that would overwhelm Constance’s petite frame. I would style this gown with a loose romantic updo, defined eyes, soft pink lips, a pair of hot pink satin Saint Laurent ‘Tower’ crystal cap toe pumps, and dazzling white and pink diamond Lorraine Schwartz cherry blossom drop earrings to really ensure that Constance has an absolutely major moment on her hands. I can almost guarantee that Best Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture, for her roll in The Favourite, nominee Emma Stone will walk Sunday’s red carpet wearing some iteration of a Louis Vuitton gown. She is a face of the brand and as I have made it clear in many other posts I feel like LV contracts turn style stars into slaves to the brand. I miss the major moments that Emma brought to the red carpet. She is one of the ladies who has made my Best Dressed of the Year list with a look at the Globes back in 2012 wearing custom Lanvin. I was going to go down the custom gown route for Emma to wear on the Globes red carpet this weekend, but I was on the Louis Vuitton website recently and I found this silver spaghetti strap fully embroidered column gown which features side slits and floral pattern combined with a dĆ©gradĆ© of metallic tones and silver bands, whose geometric pattern accentuate the waistline and thought it would be a really chic moment for Emma to bring to life on this red carpet. Is the style of the gown going to compete with the big bold couture creations we are bound to see on this red carpet? No. It doesn’t have a big skirt or a long train (and I wouldn’t expect that from an LV gown either) but I think that if styled right that this could be the best look that Emma has had from LV yet. A sleek vintage inspired updo, black and green smokey eyes, soft pink lips, a silver Louis Vuitton ‘Petite Malle’ box clutch, silver Gianvito Rossi ‘Denise’ strappy PVC detail sandals, and a selection of Cartier ‘RĆ©sonances de Cartier’ collection emerald, diamond, and onyx high jewelry including a pair of drop earrings and a statement cocktail ring would all make this one of the best LV looks that Ema has ever worn. Laura Dern won the Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actress – Television Series, Miniseries, or Television Film, and as nominated again this year but for Best Performance by a Lead Actress in a Miniseries or Television Film for her role in the HBO movie The Tale. I decided to go with more of a sporty glam look for Laura to bring to this red carpet. She has a very athletic frame and I think that this slate blue Zac Posen Pre-Fall 2019 ribbed knit gown which features a rounded neckline, shimmering embroidered stripe pattern, and a full floor length skirt is perfect for her to bring to life on this red carpet. I think it would compliment her frame and while it isn’t as dramatic as the Armani Prive gown she wore last year I think it is the perfect option. She isn’t one of the front runners to actually win, thats Amy Adams and Penelope Cruz, so I think this is Zac Posen moment would be just the right choice especially if paired with old Hollywood waves, defined eyes, dusty rose pink lips, a steel grey Edie Parker ‘Jean’ metallic marbled acrylic clutch, anthracite grey Alexandre Birman bow detail glitter sandals, and jewels from Fred Leighton including girandole diamond pendant earrings, a vintage art deco Tiffany & Co. diamond bracelet (sold from Fred Leighton,) and a new Fred Leighton signed diamond cocktail ring. I went back and forth about whether or not I was going to feature Patricia Arquette in this list. She has never been one who excites me on the red carpet. I can’t think of any looks of hers that I’ve liked, let alone loved. I decided ultimately that since Patricia is nominated that I would put something out into the universe for a chic moment for her to wear. I decided that I would go for simple classic glamour with this black Ester Abner Spring 2019 off the shoulder gown which features cap sleeves, sweetheart neckline, empire waist, and a flowing chiffon a-line skirt. Is this going to make any Best Dressed lists? No, but it would keep her off worst dressed lists especially if it was styled with a black Jimmy Choo ‘Trinket’ tube clutch, a sleek low bun, defined eyes, red lips, a pair of black Jimmy Choo ‘Love’ pumps, and some sparkle via a diamond garland collar necklace from Beladora. I was a little surprised with the Best Actress in a Motion Picture – Drama nomination that Rosamund Pike received this year. It is such a heavy field year that I thought she was a long shot. I am excited to see what she will wear on the red carpet. She has been a devotee to Givenchy for the last year and I am almost expecting her to don the brand again on Sunday night. While there are many options off the current runways that Rosamund could wear I decided to create a custom couture gown for her instead. I took a bold blue fully embroidered column skirt off a caped gown I loved from the Givenchy Fall 2018 Couture collection and paired it with a halter design from the Spring 2019 RTW collection. I think that the fusing of the two designs created a very modern and glamorous moment that I think is perfect for Rosamund to wear on this red carpet. Pair it with a sleek updo, defined eyes, red lips, a pair of silver Christian Louboutin ‘Follies Lace’ pumps, and Bulgari diamond and sapphireĀ ‘Roaring 80’ ear clips to really make this look head to toe perfection

The 2019 Golden Globe Awards will take place on Sunday January 6, 2019.

2019 Golden Globe Awards Red Carpet Wish List Part 2

We are now officially less than a week to the 2019 Golden Globe Awards and I am getting more and more excited about what the red carpet will bring as each day passes. The group of stars nominated this year is fantastic potential for major red carpet moments and on top of that there are just countless stars who bring absolute glamour to the red carpet that feature in the casts of the films and television projects that are being nominated. It is going to make for an absolutely major moment on the red carpet. I believe that typically we see about 200 red carpet moments on Globes night and I think that this year might be a little more. Now we kick off the red carpet wishes first with nominees. Alison Brie is nominated for Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series – Musical/Comedy for her performance in the Netflix series GLOW. In the middle of this year Alison swapped her stylists from Cristina Ehrlich to Erin Walsh and I have noticed that I haven’t put Alison on as many Best Dressed lists since. She hasn’t been delivering really major moments and I am hoping that will change when she steps out onto the red carpet at the 2019 Golden Globe Awards. The moment I saw this strapless gold Oscar de la Renta Pre-Fall 2019 metallic gown which features a straight neckline, floor length, with a loose silhouette, and all-over embellished metallic embroidery scalloped throughout dress I thought of Alison and the Golden Globes would be a perfect place for her to bring this gown to life on a red carpet. It isn’t a big train or couture confection, but when a look is done perfectly from head to toe I know it can be a major moment. I think that this look would hit that status with a sleek updo, defined eyes, soft rose pink lips, a gold Edie Parker ‘Jean’ metallic lizard skin leather clutch, a pair of gold strass embellished Rene Caovilla mule sandals, and a selection of simple Anita Ko jewels set in 18k gold including a pair of diamond twisted hoops and an ‘Atlas’ diamond tennis style bracelet. Connie Britton isn’t someone who usually gets me excited as a style star, but she has been known to deliver really glamorous moments on the red carpet. So for the 2019 Golden Globe Awards, where she is nominated for Best Performance by an Actress in a Miniseries or Television Film for the Bravo miniseries Dirty John, I decided to give that glamorous moment I know Connie could sell to me on this red carpet. It was another case of love at first sight when I saw this navy Naeem Khan Pre-Fall 2019 beaded halter neck gown which features a fitted bodice, high neckline, crisscross open back, and a column skirt. I saw this look after Globe nominations came out so I already had the nominees in the back of my mind so the moment I saw this chic column gown I knew it was the perfect fit for Connie. One of my favorite moments Connie has ever brought to the red carpet has come from Naeem back in 2013 at the Emmy Awards. This gown is very different from that one but it does satisfy my love of redheads in blue and I really do believe that Connie could really sell this look to me on the red carpet especially if paired with old Hollywood waves, simple defined eyes, red lips, a cobalt blue Judith Leiber Couture ‘Cayman’ crocodile leather box clutch, navy Gianvito Rossi suede cutout d’Orsay sandals, and a pair of Hueb ‘Botanica’ diamond and tanzanite ear crawler earrings.Emily Blunt has been on the Golden Globe Awards red carpet three times, once in Dolce & Gabbana and twice in Michael Kors. I won’t lie I was very tempted to create a custom Michael Kors gown for the Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture – Musical/Comedy nominee to rock on the Globes red carpet again this year, but I decided to give her a couture moment instead. She has some stiff competition from other favorites including Olivia Colman and Constance Wu in this category, but I still think that Emily is one of the top contenders to take home this trophy this year. So I wanted to do something that would be perfect with a Globe. Enter this chic red Valentino Fall 2018 Couture draped goddess gown which features a halter neck, flowing bodice, keyhole cutout, pleated skirt, and a cape like silhouette. It was another case of love at first sight. This time it came though when I was searching for gowns for Emily to wear for this red carpet specifically. Emily has only worn Valentino on the red carpet once before, and it definitely wasn’t my favorite look from her, but I think think that this gown would definitely fit her aesthetic perfectly and be a really chic look on this red carpet. A romantic updo, defined eyes, matching red lips, a pair of red velvet Jimmy Choo ‘Anouk’ pointed toe pumps, and vintage Cartier diamond and ruby cluster earrings all would perfectly compliment this romantic look. I won’t lie to you, and I may be biased, but I definitely think that Lady Gaga has the Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture – Drama trophy on lock. She is one of my top contenders to ride awards season all the way to an Oscar. The Hollywood Foreign Press, who vote and present the Golden Globes, loves her and I definitely think that she will most likely walk home with two Globes again on Sunday night (she’s also nominated for Best Original Song for “Shallow” from A Star Is Born. I have been dreaming of gowns for Gaga to wear during Awards Season since that first Valentino Couture moment at the Venice Film Festival. She has shown her love for Heidi Slimane’s debut at Celine having been the first to wear anything from the collection debuting his new signature bag before the collection even walked the runway. She was also the only celeb who was seated front row at the show. I decided to take a dazzling silver cape neck crystal mini dress from the Celine Spring 2019 RTW collection and have it customized into a very glamorous gown with a dramatic train for Gaga to rock on this red carpet. Since this collection was only short dresses I knew that there would have to be modifications made for an awards red carpet and when I knew that Gaga was a lock for the nomination I sent my photo editor this dress and told her exactly what I wanted. She turned my vision into a reality. I get distinct 60’s vibes from this gown so I would go almost retro glam with the styling of this look adding an updo inspired by Audrey Hepburn inĀ Breakfast at Tiffany’sĀ (even adding a vintage Harry Winston diamond crescent brooch in place of Audrey’s tiara,) bold black and silver winged eyes, red lips, a pair of silver Christian Louboutin ‘Very Strass’ PVC platform peep toe pumps, and more Harry Winston diamonds including cluster earrings (with subtle drops) and a starburst cuff bracelet to really hit home the glamour of this ensemble, Olivia Colman is another front runner for the Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture – Musical/Comedy for her performance in The Favourite and I am really interested in seeing what she will bring to the red carpet over the course of awards season so far. We have seen Olivia only wearing British designers on the red carpet so far during the promo tour for the film, and I have been continuing that with my wishes. Until now. While I have been loving those British brands on the red carpet I decided I wanted to see Olivia bring this dark wine red velvet Azzedine Alaia Fall 2018 RTW gown which features cap sleeves, a round neckline, belted waist, and an a-line skirt to line on the Golden Globes red carpet. Alaia is definitely one of the riskier choices because the brand isn’t exactly known for dressing stars on the red carpet, and those it does are usually from a small pool of stars. I however definitely think that on Olivia this velvet gown would be a very regal moment. I don’t see her being one that will push boundaries of style or size on the red carpet and I definitely think that this glamorous gown would definitely fit the aesthetic that Olivia brings to the red carpet especially with her signature pixie cut, defined eyes, soft pink lips, black Jimmy Choo ‘Lucy’ half d-Orsay suede pumps, and vintage Fred Leighton art deco briolette diamond earrings. Regina King is nominated for two awards at the 2019 Golden Globe Awards, Best Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture for If Beale Street Could Talk and Best Performance by an Actress in a Miniseries or Television Film. I have this inkling feeling that Regina is about to sweep awards season in that Best Supporting Category all the way to the Oscars, even without a SAG nomination. I have had such a hard time picking looks for Regina because she hasn’t really been one of the people who I particularly enjoy seeing on the red carpet. She tends to do looks that are overcooked, too twee, or ill fitting (or a combination of any of those three) from designers I have usually never heard of. I am praying that over the course of the next week that I will start to get more of a feel for what kind of look she and her stylists Wayman and Michah are going to be cooking up this awards season. I have given a wide range of designers for her to deliver on awards season red carpets. This red Tadashi Shoji Pre-Fall 2019 princess gown is definitely not on the same tier of designer like the Dior I picked for Regina to wear for the AFI Awards, but when I saw this gown I thought it would be perfect for her to deliver on the red carpet at the Golden Globes. I love this sleeveless gown which features intricate tonal embroidery on the bodice and a tiered ombrĆ© a-line skirt and I definitely think that it is the perfect option for the front runner to take home a major award should wear. I would modify the gown just a bit to have a sweeping dramatic train, because like I always say #WhenInDoubtBeExtra. A sleek updo, defined eyes, red lips, a pair of red Rene Caovilla crisscross crystal embellished satin sandals, and Maxior ‘Moment’ rhodolite grenade, white topaz, and diamond cluster earrings all would really ensure that this is a winning moment from head to toe.

The 2019 Golden Globe Awards will take place on Sunday January 6, 2019.

2019 Golden Globe Awards Red Carpet Wish List Part 1

Here we go ladies and gentlemen! The first major awards show of the year is almost upon us so it is time for me to kick off my Golden Globe Awards wishes. I am doing it differently this year than I have in the past. Usually I break it upĀ  by category and I feel like I end up with more posts than I know what to do with. This year the only “special” post I have is this first one because it features all the looks I want to see hostess, and Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series – Drama nominee, Sandra Oh to bring to life over the course of awards season. I was a little surprised to see that Sandra was chosen to host this years Golden Globe Awards along side Andy Samberg (the pair did present earlier this year at the Emmy Awards together.) I don’t think of comedy when I think of Sandra, so I am interested to see what how they will vibe with each other. I recently took an interest in Sandra’s fashion choices again when she wore a chic red Ralph & Russo gown for the Emmy’s, so I’m hoping she brings really chic fashion moments on Globes night. For the red carpet I decided to go simple and glamorous with this gold Armani Prive Fall 2018 Couture strapless column gown completely crystal embroidered from head to toe. I think that this is probably going to be a favored silhouette for Sandra on Globes night and just the simplicity of this gown really makes it a chic moment. Could she rock the red carpet with the organza stole like it was paired with on the runway? Definitely, but I don’t think it would be needed. Now if Mr. Armani wanted to create an attached train with that fabric I might be really intrigued. I do however think that the simple chic column gown would be perfect for her to bring to life on this red carpet. A chic romantic updo, defined smokey eyes, soft pink lips, a black Roger Vivier ‘Club Chain’ gold chain tassel detail buckled clutch, strappy gold Jimmy Choo ‘Mimi’ metallic leather sandals, and antique Georgian diamond drop earrings from Beladora would all ensure that Sandra would kick the night off in high style. Now the fun part of picking looks for Sandra came when picking all of the wardrobe changes I want to see from her over the course of the actual telecast. I am predicting an over all of five to six ensembles from Sandra over the course of the night at the Globes. One for the red carpet, four looks during the telecast, and one for the after-parties.

The first wardrobe change would be out of that simple and chic Armani Prive gown from the red carpet and into a black and orange Viktor & Rolf Sior Resort 2019 ‘Flower Garden Sparkle gown which features a fit and flare silhouette with satin flower embroidery and crystal embellishments. This gown is something I knew I wanted to pick for Sandra just because I think that the orange against her skin would just pop. It is a bold statement gown that I would just pair simply with a sleek updo, smokey eyes, soft nude lips, and black Jimmy Choo ‘Emily’ suede crisscross sandals.

The second look I’ve picked for Sandra to wear is a little bit more of a risky fashion choice, just because of the designer. I love this black and white Alexander Wang Fall 2019 RTW ensemble which features a white asymmetrical sleeve silk jersey t-shirt bodice and and asymmetrical black tuxedo inspired wrap skirt with a sexy center split. It is a bit of a risk just because of who designed it and is also not exactly what someone typically thinks of when they think of the Golden Globe Awards. The edgier style I think is something that Sandra would rock and I think that bouncy curls, smokey eyes, nude lips, black Alexander Wang ‘Cady’ halo-pod stiletto sandals, and Anita Ko ‘Ava’ diamond wreath earrings would make it a really chic moment for her hosting duties.

I didn’t want to do all gowns for Sandra because that just didn’t seem authentic, so when I saw that deep berry velvet Azzaro Spring 2018 Couture smoking jacket inspired jumpsuit I thought it would be the perfect look to break up all the gowns for Sandra. I actually find it funny because it was only after I picked this jumpsuit that I realized that her former Grey’s Anatomy co-star Ellen Pompeo also wore a similar jumpsuit from this collection for the Vanity Fair Oscar Party earlier this year. I thought this look would be really chic and I think that keeping those bouncy curls adding a berry lip to match the velvet, defined eyes, and simple black Jimmy Choo ‘Romy’ pointed toe pumps would add the perfect finishing touches to it.

The final look I want to see Sandra wearing during the Golden Globes telecast is this very chic white Pamella Roland Spring 2019 RTW stretch crepe gown which features a crystal metallic gold floral embroidered motif, illusion neckline, and a column silhouette. I went back to the column silhouette and a hint of gold to bring the looks full circle. If I had a fit body like Sandra does I would want looks that hugged my curves and showcased it to the max, but in a glamorous way, and that is exactly what we get with this gown. A pair of gold Rene Caovilla crystal embellished sandals, bouncy curls, soft pink glossy lips, and a selection of antique jewels from Beladora including victorian natural pearl, cultured pearl, and diamond chandelier earrings and a victorian peridot and diamond ring would all ensure that this look is feminine glamour defined.

The final wardrobe change I would like to see from Sandra on Globes night is for the after parties. I decided to go with a much simpler look for her to wear for the parties than I did for the red carpet at the ceremony or the wardrobe changes during the telecast. I love a good Rochas moment on the red carpet but they don’t come very often. When I was picking looks to option for Sandra I was drawn to this black Rochas Spring 2019 RTW one shoulder tea length gown which features a puff shoulder, velvet animal print, loose fit, and ribbon detail. I decided it would be a perfect look for her to wear for the parties because after all those wardrobe changes it would be just relaxed enough in fit to be comfortable, but still really chic especially when paired with a loose updo, defined eyes, nude lips, a black satin Roger Vivier ‘Broche Vivier’ crystal buckle clutch, a pair of black velvet Roger Vivier ‘Sin’ crystal bow detail strappy sandals, and art deco jewels from Beladora including diamond and jade drop earrings and a simple diamond bracelet.

The 2019 Golden Globe Awards will take place on Sunday January 6, 2019.

2019 Palm Springs Film Festival Black Tie Awards Gala Red Carpet Wish List Part 2

Did you think I was done for today with my wishes for the 2019 Palm Springs Film Festival Black Tie Awards Gala? You were wrong. I wanted to get all my wishes out in the universe today. The glamour of this red carpet is one that I think people underestimate. Usually there is at least one look from this red carpet that I fall in love with and stays with me all through the year. The red carpet is usually chock full of honorees bringing their A-game. So who will it be this year?Emily Blunt will join some of her Mary Poppins Returns co-stars as they are set to recieve the Ensemble Performance Award. I won’t lie when this news came out yesterday I was a little surprised. I was waiting for one of the major ensembles already honored at other events like the casts of Crazy Rich Asians, The Favourite, Suspiria, or Black Panther to be announced as the honoree for this award at the Palm Springs Awards too. I do however love Emily Blunt on the red carpet so I am excited to see what she will bring to this red carpet. Will it be long and glamorous or short and dramatic? I decided to go with long and glamorous in bold color opting for this saffron yellow Oscar de la Renta Pre-Fall 2019 gown which features a rounded neckline, gathered angle detail at fitted bust, rolled fabric straps, a-line drape skirt with slit at side, and a small train. I was originally thinking of saving this gown for Emily to wear for the SAG Awards, but I think that it has the right glamour about it for this red carpet. I would pair it with a romantic updo, defined eyes, bold red lips, a gold Jimmy Choo ‘Clemmie’ box clutch, gold Rene Caovilla crystal studded metallic snakeskin ankle wrap sandals, and a pair of dazzling Anabela Chan ‘Canary Daisy’ canary citrine, white diamond, and freshwater pearl drop earrings to make this look bold glamour from head to toe. I was kinda expecting to see Irina Shayk fight for the Best Plus One while supporting her partner Bradley Cooper while he promoted A Star Is Born. She was at the first premiere at the Venice Film Festival, but we didn’t see here at any of the other premieres or events surrounding the promotion of the film. I am hoping that we see her out supporting him over the course of awards season. I went round and round in finding the perfect gown for Irina to wear on the red carpet at the Palm Springs Film Festival Awards Gala with Bradley, where he will be honored with the Director of the Year Award for his directorial debut A Star Is Born. I wanted chic and sexy and so when I finally saw the Cushnie Pre-Fall 2019 lookbook and this cobalt blue silk slip style gown which features a triangular organza insert at the bust, fit and flare silhouette, think straps, and a raw edge trim along the bodice I knew I had found the perfect gown for Irina to wear on this red carpet. I absolutely adore the color and I think that while I cannot remember Irina wearing a bold blue like this on a red carpet in the past that it would look amazing against her caramel skin tone. Add old Hollywood waves, defined eyes, red lips, a pair of cobalt blue velvet Tom Ford rock crystal heel ankle strap sandals, and simple Chopard diamond and sapphire cluster drop earrings to make this a perfect plus one moment for Irina to deliver on this red carpet. Olivia Colman is the third front runner, including Melissa McCarthy and Glen Close, for the Best Actress title during awards season. She will be Desert Palm Achievement Award for her performance in The Favourite. I am really interested in seeing what she will bring to the red carpet over the course of awards season. She has been bringing some more interesting, but still simple, looks over the course of this tour. I had no real inclination to feature her for the first premieres, but her use of major British designers including Victoria Beckham, Antonio Berardi, Stella McCartney, and more. I am still sticking to British brands for her to wear on the red carpet during awards season, at least for now. She has yet to bring Burberry, arguably the most classic of the British labels, to the red carpet. So I decided to pick this black asymmetrical draped long sleeve jersey gown from the brands Spring 2019 RTW collection for her to wear on this red carpet. Again this look isn’t bold in color or style, but I definitely think it would be a really glamorous and chic moment for Olivia to bring to life on this red carpet especially when paired with her pixie cut, defined eyes, red lips, a black satin Roger Vivier ‘Trianon’ crystal buckle draped bow clutch, a pair of black velvet Roger Vivier ‘Viv’ platform sandals, and David Morris rose cut diamond wreath earrings.Rami Malek rounds out this years wishes for the 2019 Palm Springs Film Festival Black Tie Awards Gala. He will be receiving the Breakthrough Performance Award for his first major movie roll as Freddie Mercury in Bohemian Rhapsody. I guess I wasn’t expecting Rami to take this award home since he already has and Emmy and a Golden Globe Award under his belt, but they are for his television show Mr. Robot. Rami is one of the guys who likes to subtly push boundaries with his menswear and I am really excited to see what he will pull out over the course of awards season. He was at one point a face of Dior’s menswear and I decided that I would turn to the brand, and their first Pre-Fall collection for him to wear on this red carpet. I love this subtle dark grey Dior Men Pre-Fall 2019 slim fit suit which features tonal patch-working on part of the chest and the pants. It has just enough extra to make this a stand out moment on the red carpet. Would he wear this draped silk jersey turtleneck that the suit was paired with on the runway? He might. I would air of the side of caution though and opt for a classic black turtleneck instead adding a pair of black Christian Louboutin ‘Mortimer’ leather monk strap oxfords to complete the look.

The 2019 Palm Springs Film Festival Black Tie Awards Gala will take place on Thursday January 3, 2019.

2019 Palm Springs Film Festival Black Tie Awards Gala Red Carpet Wish List Part 1

Awards season is just about here. It gets it’s unofficial kickoff with the 2019 Palm Springs Film Festival Black Tie Awards Gala Thursday January 3, 2019. While this red carpet isn’t one of the biggest during awards season the honorees usually bring their A-game to the red carpet. The last two years this red carpet has produced Best Dressed of the Year worthy moments, from Saoirse Ronan and Ruth Negga, and for the past three a look from this red carpet has made my Best Dressed of January list. So the expectations for this red carpet are definitely on the higher side. Glenn Close is headed to take home the Icon Award at this years PS Film Festival Black Tie Awards gala. She is one, of many, front runners and ones to watch during awards season this year and I am definitely interested in seeing what she will bring to the red carpet. Her last awards season run, in 2012 for her film Albert Nobbs, was almost exclusively in Zac Posen. While she does look amazing in Zac’s designs I decided to go with a little more wide ranging selection of designers for her to deliver on the red carpets over the course of the next years awards shows. Kicking off that run I went with simple glamour with this black Alberta Ferretti draped cape gown which features a column skirt. It is a simple gown that I definitely think would be something that Glenn would be drawn to, especially for a red carpet like this. A chic pixie hairstyle, defined eyes, dusty rose pink lips, a black satin Judith Leiber ‘Quinn’ clutch, a pair of black Manolo Blahnik ‘Nadira’ jeweled pumps, and Van Cleef & Arpels diamond cluster earrings would all make this an incredibly chic moment for this red carpet. We have another front runner in the Best Actress category this awards season who will be honored at the 2019 Palm Springs Film Festival Black Tie Awards Gala. Melissa McCarthy will be awarded with the Spotlight Award for her performance in the film Can You Ever Forgive Me? I am really interested in seeing what Melissa will bring to the red carpet. Fashion designers have been expanding their willingness to create gowns for women with curves and with a real chance in the Oscar race I think we might see some great labels dress Melissa over the course of awards season. I decided to kick off her run with this highland green Jenny Packham Resort 2019 ‘Tana’ gown which features a twisted bodice with a starburst sequin embellished design and medium length dolman sleeves. I always love a chic Jenny Packham moment on the red carpet and I definitely think that this style would be perfect for Melissa especially when paired with old Hollywood waves, defined eyes, red lips, a dark green Judith Leiber Couture ‘Siam Slim Slide’ clutch, black Jimmy Choo ‘Annie’ sandals, and a pair of vintage diamond and emerald drop earrings from Beladora.Regina King is the horse with the most head in the race currently for the Best Supporting Actress category. For the first red carpet of the year and the kickoff to the awards season I decided I wanted to make sure that this years Chairman Award recipient would kick off her style run in high style and that is exactly what she would do wearing this light lemonade yellow Jason Wu Spring 2019 RTW one shoulder gown which features an asymmetric strap, gathered bodice and layered tulle skirt. It has been a while since I have really loved a Jason Wu moment on the red carpet and I definitely think that this gown on Regina would be the perfect moment to make me rediscover my love for the brand again. Regina isn’t exactly the most boundary pushing dresser and I really do believe that with a major awards season ahead of her that she will be on top of her style game. Pairing this gown with a sleek updo, defined eyes, nude lips, a gold Judith Leiber ‘Soho’ snakeskin box clutch, a pair of gold Rene Caovilla crystal studded metallic snakeskin ankle wrap sandals, and dazzling white and yellow diamond Chopard Red Carpet Collection pendant drop earrings would definitely ensure that Regina delivers a major best dressed worthy moment on this red carpet. Finishing out this list is the always exciting Timothee Chalamet who took home the Rising Star Award at last years Palm Springs Film Festival Awards, and is being honored this year with a Spotlight Award for his performance in Beautiful Boy. He delivers major menswear moments, which is obvious since he made four appearances on my Best Dressed Men of 2018 list. I want to see Timmy continue to bring boundary pushing menswear to the red carpet over the course of this coming awards season. He loves Louis Vuitton, Haider Ackermann, and Alexander McQueen but I decided that Timothee would be the perfect guy to give Celine menswear by Heidi Slimane its first red carpet moment. I may not think that Heidi’s Celine is anything that actually correlates to the history of the brand, but I won’t deny that he knows how to create really great clothes. I would love to see Timmy rock this Celine Spring 2019 RTW tuxedo which features a black tuxedo jacket with silver crystal arrow embellishments and a solid lapel and skinny black pants. The suit was paired with a black button down and a solid white skinny tie. I would probably ditch the tie for Timothee adding a pair of black Christian Louboutin ‘Alpha Male P’ strass embellished cap toe derbies to really make this a very chic, and sparkly, menswear moment.

The 2019 Palm Springs Film Festival Black Tie Awards Gala will take place on Thursday January 3, 2019.

2019 National Board of Review Awards Red Carpet Wish List Part 2

In the wishes I posted yesterday for the National Board of Review Awards it was dominated by people who I don’t know if they will be on the red carpet because they aren’t receiving individual honors. Today all of the people on this list are being honored with specific awards and not just part of a top 10 movie. Constance Wu is part of the ensemble cast of Crazy Rich Asians that will be honored with the Best Ensemble Cast award at this years National Board of Review awards gala. I had really high hopes for Constance’s promo tour earlier this year, but while she expanded her repertoire of designers I was underwhelmed when it came to the fit of pretty much everything. I was surprised at that fact because she is styled by Micaela Erlanger, who also dresses Lupita Nyong’o. I was finally into one of Constance’s looks when she stepped out for the Academy Governors Awards last month wearing a simple custom sequin pattered blush Miu Miu gown. The fit of that gown was perfect. Everything about that look was perfection, to be honest. I want her to bring that sense of glamour to the red carpet at the National Board of Review Awards gala red carpet. I think that she would do just that wearing this bold amethyst purple Dundas Pre-Fall 2019 silk georgette cape gown which features a plunging neckline, a fitted bodice, a straight silhouette, defined waist, and a full length pleated skirt with a thigh high slit. Dundas is always a good choice for sexy glamour and that is exactly what is being delivered here with this gown. Would Constance pull an Angelina or a JLo and work that side split to it’s full potential, probably not. But I do believe that it would be just a chic flash of leg as she walked. Add a romantic updo, smokey defined eyes, soft pink lips, a black Jimmy Choo ‘Cloud’ ostrich feather clasp clutch, a pair of black Jimmy Choo ‘Mimi’ strappy suede sandals, and a pair of vintage Cartier gold and amethyst art deco style stud earrings and Constance will be on track to deliver a really chic moment on this red carpet. Gemma Chan was so much better than her rerun slate blue Stella McCartney gown that she wore for the Academy Governors Awards last month. I am really excited to see what the British actress will bring to the red carpets over the course of awards season. She knows how to work some really avant garde style with effortless ease. The moment I saw this white and nude Maticevski Spring 2019 RTW ‘Dolls Eye’ backless chantilly lace dress which features a ruffled halter neckline and an A-line skirt I thought of Gemma and I knew it would be the perfect look for her to wear to join her Crazy Rich Asians co-stars to collect their Best Ensemble Cast award at the National Board of Review Awards gala. If this gown had hit the floor I would have counted it out, but that tea length hem makes it just the right amount of drama for an event the the NBR gala. It isn’t a gown that I think just needs shoes to be finished, but it is also a dress that can be really hard to style. A lot of things would turn this look from chic to overcooked real quick. Personally I would add a gold Sophia Webster ‘Clara’ crystal box clutch, a romantic updo, antique rose pink lips, soft smokey eyes, a pair of gold Sophia Webster ‘Rosalind’ strappy crystal heel sandals, and simple Anita Ko ‘Short’ rose gold set diamond cascade pear drop earrings to ensure this look is absolute head to toe perfection.Finishing out my wishes for the ensemble of the cast of Crazy Rich Asians is the incredibly handsome Henry Golding. I was really intrigued with Henry’s red carpet looks this last year. He slid onto my Best Dressed Men of the Year list and I am hoping he delivers looks that I will not even hesitate to consider for next years list. He isn’t the gut that pushes boundaries the most, but he does it in just the right amount to make me swoon. I was looking for the perfect tuxedo for him to wear on the red carpet at the National Board of Review Awards and I found it on the virtual racks of Mr. Porter. I saw this Ralph Lauren Purple Label tuxedo which features a navy ‘Gregory’ slit fit cotton and silk-blend jacquard peak lapel jacket, black pants, white shirt, and black bow tie and knew immediately it was the perfect look for Henry to bring to life on this red carpet. It is just bold enough because of the jacquard pattern to really make an impact on a red carpet that will most likely be filled with standard black tuxedos. I would push the boundaries of this look even further paring it with navy Christian Louboutin ‘Logo Dandelion’ flat crystal embroidered loafers, without socks, and I think that this would definitely be a menswear looks goals ensemble from head to toe. Emily Blunt stars in two of the films that are being lauded by the National Board of Review as some of the 10 Best Films of 2018 Mary Poppins Returns and A Quiet Place. While she isn’t being lauded with an individual award it would not surprise me to see Emily, and her hubby John Krazinski, on the red carpet at the National Board of Review Awards gala. It has been a while buy Emily has rocked some chic Tom Ford looks on the red carpet and when I was searching the virtual racks for gowns I think should be optioned for the red carpets this awards season and when I saw this sunset pink Tom Ford sleeveless draped center column gown which features a deep plunging neckline I knew I wanted to see it on Emily. The more laid back nature of the NBR Awards is perfect for this gown. Is it anything boundary pushing? Not in the least, but it works for this kind of a red carpet especially when paired with simple waves, defined eyes, soft pink lips, a ballet pink satin Jimmy Choo ‘Cloud Bos’ with a crystal bow clasp, rosewood pink glitter Jimmy Choo ‘Misty’ platform sandals, and a pair of simple Chopard white and pink diamond pendant drop earrings. Lady Gaga is my favorite heading into awards season and I am hoping that at the National Board of Review Awards that she will be taking home her second trophy on the road to the Oscars. She will be honored with the Best Actress award for her performance in A Star Is Born at the National Board of Review Awards gala. I decided that while I am going down the go big or go home route for most of the rest of Gaga’s red carpet moments during this awards season I decided to go down a simpler route for the perfect look for her to wear on the red carpet at the NBR Gala. I want to see Gaga give us urban meets Hollywood glamour wearing this white Alexander Wang Fall 2019 RTW t-shirt column gown which features white fit cap sleeves and an asymmetrical neckline. It isn’t your typical red carpet gown and I feel like it would take someone with real presence to really be able to sell this gown to me on a red carpet and if anyone has presence it is Gaga. I really do believe she would shut this gown down on this red carpet with a sleek high bun, thick winged eyes, bold red lips, a pair of white Alexander Wang ‘Rina’ studded leather slingback pumps, and statement Jacob & Co. high jewelry diamond chandelier earrings. Thomasin McKenzie is one of my Ones to Watch in 2019 and apparently the National Board of Review agrees because they will be presenting her with the Breakthrough Performance award. Thomasin has been delivering chic looks from Dolce & Gabbana, Schiaparelli, and Louis Vuitton so I am really excited to see what she will deliver on red carpets over the course of awards season. I wanted something chic and glamorous that was still totally perfect for an 18 year old actress to wear on the red carpet. So when I saw this rainbow striped Carolina Herrera Resort 2019 one shoulder tulle gown which features a braided empire waist and a cape like train I knew it was the perfect fit. The gown is absolutely gorgeous, and while supermodel Tao Okamoto wore a black and white version of this gown to the CFDA Awards earlier this year, I think that it would be a perfect option for Thomasin to wear on this red carpet. The gown itself is statement enough that simple defined eyes, soft pink lips, a pair of dusty ice blue Rene Caovilla embellished denim strappy sandals, and Tiffany & Co. diamond and aquamarine stud earrings would all ensure that this is that real statement making moment I am expecting from Thomasin.

The 2019 National Board of Review Awards will take place on Tuesday January 8, 2019.

2019 National Board of Review Awards Red Carpet Wish List Part 1

Before I get into my wishes for the first red carpet of the year, the Palm Springs International Film Festival Black Tie Awards Gala, I have some wishes for a red carpet that will take place after the Golden Globes. The National Board of Review Awards are handed out in January, but to honorees that are announced in early December. The red carpet is usually full of big stars and with many projects staring major names being honored I am expecting some absolutely stand out moments on this red carpet. The styles we see stars bring to life for this event go from cocktail to formal. It isn’t necessarily the place we see couture gowns, but always stars bring their a-game to this stop on the race to the Oscars. While Black Panther might not be lauded with any individual awards at the 2019 National Board of Review Awards it was named one of the top 10 films of 2018. What does that mean for the film on this red carpet? I’m not sure. I would bet that, at least, one person from the cast is on this red carpet to represent the film in its Oscar campaign. It would make sense that it would be the black panther himself, Chadwick Boseman. He has been loving coat style jackets on the red carpet lately, but for the National Board of Review Awards I am turning to this blue-ish silver Emporio Armani Spring 2019 Menswear metallic fiber double breasted suit jacket for him. It was almost a year ago when Chadwick kicked off the promo tour for Black Panther wearing a printed Emporio Armani suit jacket for the films premiere in LA, and I would expect that he will wear the label at least once over the course of awards season this year. This red carpet being a little more laid back I think that this jacket paired with slim fit black pants, a white button down buttoned all the way up, no tie, and a pair of dark silver Christian Louboutin ‘Dandelion’ chevron gauffre loafers would all ensure that Chadwick owns menswear on this red carpet. Of course while just seeing Chadwick promoting Black Panther on this red carpet I would love to see any of the female co-stars of this film also bring their glam to this red carpet. Danai Gurira has long been one of my favorite ladies on the red carpet so of course I want to see her on the red carpets as often as possible. If she chooses to attend the National Board of Review Awards I decided I wanted to go for a major cocktail moment picking this black and white Givenchy Pre-Fall 2019 cocktail ensemble for her to bring to life on this red carpet. I love the polka dot embroidered sleeveless ruffled bodice which is complimented very simple with a black mini skirt and I really do believe that Danai has the chops to really push through all of those ruffles to make it a major moment on this red carpet especially when paired with a high bun, defined eyes, nude lips, and a pair of black Gianvito Rossi strappy suede sandals with pearl stud details. Letitia Wright came a long way in her style journey last year. I almost forgot she was part of the cast because when she was promoting Black Panther last year her looks really just faded into the background. It was after that tour and heading into the one for Avengers: Infinity War that we really started to see Letitia’s style start to soar. I, like Danai, decided to go the cocktail route for Letitia opting for this brown Michael Kors Pre-Fall 2019 feather embellished peplum dress for the red carpet at the National Board of Review Awards. This dress is definitely not for the faint of fashion hearted, but I really do believe that the Letitia that walked red carpets at the end of last year has the confidence and presence to really work through this look on the red carpet. Add a sleek hairstyle tucked behind the ears, defined eyes, nude lips, an antique gold Bottega Veneta pearl chain knot clutch, and a pair of black Stuart Weitzman ‘Nudistsong’ sandals would all compliment this dress perfectly ensuring that Letitia has a major style moment on this red carpet. Of all the stars in the cast of Black Panther I think that Lupita Nyong’o would be the one to really bring some major fashion moment to this red carpet. I decided to go for a gown for her over something short with this very visual Chanel Pre-Fall 2019 sleeveless gown which features an intricate Egyptian inspired print on the bodice and hemline, black blocking and this metallic gold leather trimming. This is definitely a gown that would take the right person to take it on to be a really chic moment on the red carpet, and I think that Lupita definitely has the regality to make sure that this gown is a major moment on this red carpet. I love when Lupita takes style risks on the red carpet and I know that this is definitely one of the riskier gowns from this collection because of the print but that Lupita has that presence to really push through this look. An intricate twist updo with gold bands (instead of white like in the inspiration pic,) defined eyes, glossy deep red lips, and a pair of gold Aquazzura ‘Oscar’ metallic leather strappy sandals would all ensure this look is perfection from head to toe. Kiki Layne stars in If Beale Street Could Talk which is being lauded by the National Board of Review as one of the 10 Best Films of 2018. Kiki might not have any nominations, or honors, for her performance in the film, but I am expecting that she will be making the rounds to help promote the film. Kiki pretty much came out of nowhere this year to be one of my favorite style stars of 2019, and I am really excited to see what she has in store for 2019. For the National Board of Review Awards I turned to one of the hottest new brands out there right now, Pyer Moss and this incredible goldenrod yellow curtain draped silk gown which features a one-shoulder silhouette and asymmetric hemline. I love the color of this gown and it just has the right balance of ease and glamour for a guest of a film to wear on the red carpet at the National Board of Review Awards. The gown itself is such a statement because of the color that I think with a bold braided updo, defined eyes, nude lips, a pair of gold Pedro Garcia ‘Rosalina’ crystal embellished sandals, and a pair of vintage 80’s diamond and precious topaz ear clips from Beladora that this would be an absolutely major moment for Kiki to bring to the red carpet during awards season. Regina King is getting nomination after nomination and honor after honor and I am having the hardest time picking looks for her to rock on the red carpet. I go back and forth with looks for every red carpet. I think I went through six or seven looks before I decided on this black Marchesa one shoulder metallic gold foil print tea length gown which features a cinched waist, an a-line shape skirt, and a draped bodice for her to wear for the National Board of Review Awards, where she is being honored with the Best Supporting Actress award for her performance in If Beale Street Could Talk. I wanted something very glamorous, flirty, and feminine for Regina on this red carpet and while I might have picked a really bold gown for her co-star, who isn’t being honored, I think that this is the perfect moment for Regina to bring to life on this red carpet. A black Tyler Ellis ‘Perry’ crocodile pattern stamped satin clutch, gold Aquazzura ‘Studio’ sequin detail strappy sandals, a sleek updo, smokey eyes, red lips, and a pair of chic yellow gold set Anita Ko ‘Snowflake’ diamond cluster earrings would all ensure that Regina is on the right track to deliver a major run this awards season.

The 2019 National Board of Review Awards will take place on Tuesday January 8, 2019.

2019 AFI Awards Red Carpet Wish List Part 3

I hope all of you had a great Christmas and are recovering nicely from your food comas. Today I finish my wishes for the 2019 AFI Awards. This red carpet just might be one of the most casual events of awards season. The AFI Awards luncheon is one of the red carpets where I don’t know who will turn out. The awards honors movies and television programs as a whole not individual cast members. We do however see the stars of those programs come out to support their projects that are being lauded. Elsie Fischer is a new face and one to watch this awards season. Her show Eighth Grade has been a dark horse contender that seemed to have come out of nowhere. I have definitely made note of looks from Kate Spade and Thom Browne that Elise has worked on red carpets in recent weeks. The 15 year old actress has been favoring pantsuits recently, but I wanted to go with something a little more youthful, flirty, and feminine for her to wear for the 2019 AFI Awards luncheon. I found this pink, blue, and green floral print Mulberry Spring 2019 RTW sleeveless skater style dress which features a ruffled neckline and trim, all over pleating, and an a-line skirt with a flounced hem and thought it would be the perfect age appropriate moment for Elise to deliver on this red carpet. It is the perfect mix of casual and red carpet for a luncheon red carpet. She could totally keep the pink Mulberry top handle bag that the look was paired with in the lookbook, but I would swap the gold pumps it was paired with in favor of a pair of pink and red Gucci ‘Anita’ metallic leather low heel pumps to add even more flirty detail to this look. A chic casual bohemian updo and barely there makeup would all ensure that this is a very chic moment for Elise. The Favourite is a favorite to run all the way to the Oscars. The cast has been nominated at every major awards show and they will kick off their race to the Oscars at the AFI Awards where the organization has lauded it as one of the 10 best films of 2018. I am PRAYING that Emma Stone will bring really major moments to the red carpet. I have been feeling like her looks have been lacking since she signed her Louis Vuitton ambassadorship contract, but recently her looks have given me a glimmer of hope. Kicking off her Oscars run in bright style I would love to see Emma rock this canary yellow Louis Vuitton shift dress which features a cape like neck and sleeve. I found this dress on the Louis Vuitton website a few weeks ago and it was immediately the perfect moment for me to pick for Emma. I love her in yellow, especially a bright yellow like this, and I really do believe that she would make it a major moment for this casual red carpet. Simple waves, defined eyes, soft pink lips, an emerald green Louis Vuitton ‘Capucines BB Mini’ crocodile leather bag, a pair of matching yellow Manolo Blahnik ‘BB’ suede pointed toe pumps, and bright green Ippolita ‘Nova’ pear drop earrings would add the perfect stand out touches to this very chic moment. While I am currently staying optimistic that Lady Gaga will take home the Best Actress trophy at this years Oscars it sounds like she might have some stiff competition from The Favourtie’s Olivia Coleman. I have been interested in seeing how Olivia’s style has grown since the beginning of this tour. I started my wishes for this film excluding her because I didn’t have enough insight into her style. Since this tour has kicked off we have seen Olivia wearing chic looks from Stella McCartney, Antonio Berardi, Emilia Wickstead, and Victoria Beckham. She has basically only worn British based labels over the course of this tour and I am wondering if this is going to continue to be the case through awards season. I decided to stick with British labels for Olivia, for now at least, picking this hunter green Erdem Pre-Fall 2019 midi dress which features a high pussy bow tied neck, ruched defined waist, blouson sleeves, and an over all loose fit. Olivia has kept herself very covered up over the course of the premieres for The Favourite and I think that she would definitely put this dress on an options rack. Her chic pixie, defined eyes, rose pink lips, a black Roger Vivier ‘Viv’ envelope flap leather clutch, and black Manolo Blahnik ‘Umice’ panted crisscross leather pumps all would really make this a perfect luncheon ensemble for Olivia. The final member of the cast of The Favourite that is on this list is the beautiful Rachel Weisz. The British actress missed the first half of the tour for this movie due to the fact that she just gave birth back in September. Her post baby body has beautiful curves that I decided I wanted to accentuate with a very chic look from Dries Van Noten Spring 2019 RTW for the AFI Awards luncheon. I love a great Dries Van Noten moment on the red carpet, but they come far and few between, so when I was on the hunt for the perfect look for Rachel to wear on this red carpet and I saw this dress which features a navy t-shirt style top, bright orange pencil skirt (WITH POCKETS) and a burnt orange feather waist I knew that it would be absolutely gorgeous on her. I can absolutely picture Rachel rocking this look with ease. It doesn’t need a whole lot of styling because the color and the feathered waist add just enough details for a casual daytime event, but I would add chic waves, defined eyes, nude lips, and a pair of orange Giuseppe Zanotti python embossed leather cross strap sandals to ensure this look is head to toe perfection. Regina King is currently my favorite this season to take home the Best Supporting Actress trophy at the Oscars, her run actually starts the night before the AFI Awards at the Palm Springs Film Festival awards gala (wishes for that are coming I just wanted to wait for a few more possible honorees to be named.) I have gone up and down with who I want to see Regina wearing on the red carpet. I have been all over the place with the level of designers that I want to see Regina wearing on the red carpet. I think I have aimed really high for the look for Regina to wear for the AFI Awards luncheon opting for this cream Christian Dior Spring 2019 RTW ensemble which features a striped loose fit button up and a laser cut leather pleated midi skirt. I don’t know if Regina has the chops to get a loan from Dior, but with her elevating presence in the race to the Oscars I decided not to count it out. This ensemble is one of the few looks from this collection that I actually think I would enjoy seeing on the red carpet and I definitely think that Regina would add some attitude to it. Add full bouncy curled pulled back off the face, defined eyes, nude lips, and a pair of white Christian Louboutin ‘Cosmo’ patent leather and vinyl cutout pumps to really make this a very chic and unexpected moment for Regina to bring to this red carpet. Kiki Layne was my Best Newcomer in 2018 and I am really interested in seeing what 2019 will see from her. She might not be the one garnering nominations for If Beale Street Could Talk, unlike her co-star Regina King, but I have a feeling that Kiki will be on red carpets delivering major fashion moments while helping support the film and her nominated cast members. She brings extra glamour to the red carpet and I wanted to pick a look for a Kiki to wear on the red carpet at the AFI Awards luncheon that was just as extra, but still casual enough to be right for a supporting star who isn’t exactly campaigning for an Oscar. I would love to see Kiki bring this red Emilia Wickstead Resort 2019 ‘Karinette’ straight midi dress which features dramatic tiered ruched pink and red sleeves with a wide v-neckline, belted waist, and simple silhouette. I have been waiting for the right girl and the right event to put this dress on the red carpet, and I finally found it. I do believe that Kiki is one of the few people who could really make this dress work on a red carpet especially if she paired it with a sleek high bun, defined eyes, nude glossy lips, and a pair of simple red suede Prada pointed toe pumps.

The 2019 AFI Awards luncheon will take place on Friday January 4, 2019.

2019 AFI Awards Red Carpet Wish List Part 2

On this day of Christmas my true love gave to me six wishes for the 2019 AFI Awards. Before I jump into today’s wishes I wanna take a moment and say how grateful I am to all of my loyal readers, and thank anyone who is visiting If I Was A Stylist for the first time. The AFI Awards are one of the most casual events of awards season and I am really excited to see what everyone who stars in the the films and televisions who are being honored will bring to the luncheon’s red carpet. Black Panther is going to be all over the place this awards season and I am really excited to see what everyone will bring to the red carpets. For the AFI Awards I want to see Black Panther himself Chadwick Boseman bring his signature coats to the red carpet. Over the last year it has become his staple from the coats that he wore from Versace for the THR Women in Entertainment luncheon to Givenchy Couture coat he wore for the Oscars Chadwick has been rocking the longer length on the red carpet. I decided to go with something very obvious that he probably wouldn’t do to avoid being kitschy but I have been wanting to see Chadwick rocking one of the panther print looks from the Valentino Fall 2018 Menswear collection since they first came down the runway almost a year ago. I originally wanted to see him rock one of these looks during the films promo tour, but he did not. This coat is a dream for me. I think that while there is a bit of kitsch in the look that it isn’t overwhelming. I did go back and forth however because of the weight of the coat. Is it going to be too heavy for a Southern California afternoon? It might. I would keep the pants and sneakers from the runway but I would swap the sweater and turtleneck the look was paired with on the runway for a t-shirt matching the greys, or a black one, to really make this a luncheon ready ensemble. Danai Gurira knows how to sell looks to me on the red carpet and she is definitely one I am very excited to see on the red carpet over the course of awards season. For the AFI Awards I decided to go with a chic suit look for Danai in punchy colors. I love this Derek Lam 10 Crosby Pre-Fall 2019 lavender suit which features a notch lapel blazer, cropped pants, and a bold lime green thick buckle belt. I saved it not sure I was ever going to have the right person at the right event to feature it on a wish list, but when I was looking for the perfect look for Danai to wear for the 2019 AFI Awards and I saw this suit it just clicked. She hasn’t worn Derek Lam before, but I just think that the color and the style is something that Danai would definitely be drawn to. I also wonder what she will do with her hair. Her last few outings have been with chic braids in different styles. Will she keep that going through awards season? If so I would like to see them styled in a chic high bun with this suit. A pair of lime green printed Ganni ‘Wilma’ strappy sandals, simple eyes, and dark glossy berry lips all would add the perfect finishing touches to this look. We all know that Lupita Nyong’o has the fashion chops to make a red carpet come to life. Hell earlier this month she was the one to bring couture to the daytime in Jean Paul Gaultier Couture for the THR Women in Entertainment luncheon. I didn’t go the couture route for Gaga, but I did find a really chic and bold moment for Lupita to bring to life on the red carpet at the AFI Awards luncheon. This electric blue, navy, and blush colored blocked Cushnie Pre-Fall 2019 midi dress which features a faux wrap style, plunging neckline, long sleeves, and a handkerchief hemline is definitely something that I think that Lupita would be drawn to. She loves bold color and feminine silhouettes which are definitely found in this dress. A chic twisted updo, defined eyes, glossy red lips, a pair of navy suede Senso ‘Ureeka’ ruffled sandals, and statement cobalt blue BaubleBar ‘Florette’ drop hoop earrings all would really make this a totally perfect moment for Lupita to bring to life. Keri Russell has never been to the AFI Awards before despite the fact that her show The Americans despite the fact that the show has been honored at the AFI Awards for the last 4 years. With the show coming to an end will Keri finally make an appearance? Who knows. She typically sticks to black on the red carpet and I decided not to keep that going, but in something I think she would really rock on the red carpet. I don’t often think of Louis Vuitton for people who aren’t LV ambassadors, but I definitely thought that this black long sleeve Louis Vuitton skater dress which features a plunging neckline, leather details on the shoulders and waist, long sleeves, and a tied waist is something that Keri would rock on the red carpet. I also don’t often long for stars to be LV ambassadors, but I honestly think that Keri could rock the brand on the red carpet. I would make this her audition for the role by making it a head to toe LV look adding a pair of black Louis Vuitton ‘Call Back’ monogrammed ankle strap pointed toe patent leather pumps. A loose waves, defined eyes, and nude lips would round this look out perfectly. With all the awards that BlacKkKlansman is getting honored with and nominated for this awards season I am really excited to see what Laura Harrier will bring during awards season. She might not have been on my ones to watch in 2019 list, but she is definitely someone I am going to keep my eye on. She is an LV Ambassador and I totally decided to go left of that for a look for her to wear for the AFI Awards. I love this Veronica Beard Pre-Fall 2019 textured-voile ‘Jordy’ jumpsuit which features short kimono sleeves, a relaxed fit complimented by a fitted waistline, contrast shoulders, and a wrap detail at the front. I wanna see Laura play with some of the lesser known brands that she loves, and some that she hasn’t worn. Veronica Beard is one of those labels that I think she would be drawn to. Style this jumpsuit with the patterned beaded belt the look was paired with in the lookbook to cinch the waist adding a sleek high ponytail, defined eyes, nude lips, and a pair of black, yellow and gold-tone calf leather Fendi ‘FendiMania’ strappy stiletto sandals and it would be another really chic moment for Laura. I won’t lie I had a really hard time picking a look for Penelope Cruz to wear on this red carpet. She is part of the cast of the honored series American Crime Story: The Assassination of Gianni Versace and she is the face of Chanel currently. I looked at looks from Chanel, Versace, and Stella McCartney and just didn’t find anything that I was excited for her to wear on this red carpet. I did however find this navy Victoria Beckham Collection draped front jacquard slip cami dress from Neimans that I think would be a really chic moment on Penelope. She has been rocking some 90’s styles on the red carpet and I have been kinda into it, and this dress definitely lives along those same vibes. It would definitely look a little different on Penelope with her curves than it did on the model, but I think it would be perfect for her to bring to life on the red carpet especially with a loose casual updo, defined eyes, soft pink lips, and a pair of black and blue sequin detail Aquazzura ‘Disco Flower’ sandals.

The 2019 AFI Awards luncheon will take place on Friday January 4, 2019.
