Cannes 2019: L’Orealista’s Red Carpet Wish List Part 3

Cannes 2019 is hopefully going to be a major year when it comes to red carpet stars. Several of the stars who have made it all the way through to my Best Dressed of the Year lists over the last several years are either confirmed or expected to walk the red carpet at this years festival. Stars come to Cannes in all kinds of capacities. Of course they come to screen their films and preside on juries, but (especially in the last decade) they have really come to promote brands. Fashion brands, jewelry brands, lifestyle brands, and of course makeup brands have been sending their ambassadors to walk the famed red carpet at the Palais de Festivals for years now. Aside from self and brand promotion they don’t have any official role at the festival and sometimes I feel like that means that they take more risks when it comes to what they wear on the red carpet. When I look at the 42 looks that made my Best of Cannes list for the last two years only 17 of them came from stars who were at the festival in an official capacity (either presenting a film, serving on the jury, or acting as a mistress of ceremonies) all the rest had some sort of product they are promoting. The most obvious of the product promoters are the L’Orealista’s who are invited to walk the red carpet just to add ‘glamour’ and that they do. British fashion personality Alexa Chung was named a face of L’Oreal Paris last January and surprisingly was absent from last years Cannes Film Festival. Alexa isn’t your typical L’Orealista as she isn’t a supermodel or an a-list actress, but I definitely think she could add something to the Cannes Film Festival red carpet that others can’t. I have long been intrigued by her very bohemian style and I feel like she would definitely be able to serve up a great look or two on the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival. For the first look I’ve chosen for Alexa I went a little out of her norm picking a floor length gown. It isn’t very often we see Alexa wearing a floor length gown on a red carpet, no matter how formal of an occasion it is. She loves a tea length gown, so picking this black jersey Burberry Spring 2019 RTW sleeveless ruffle trimmed column gown isn’t exactly a typical look I would go for, but I think that the simplicity of the gown is something that Alexa would be drawn to. It gives the perfect balance of glamour and soft bohemian elegance that I do believe it would make for an incredibly chic moment, especially if paired with a romantic updo, a thick winged eye, red lips, a black Simone Rocha feather trimmed silk satin bracelet bag, a pair of black satin Burberry square peep toe kitten heels, and Ana Khouri ‘Iolanda’ diamond oval wreath earrings. Now while that is a very chic and simplistic moment when I raised the hemline for my next wish I decided to go with something much more fun picking this hot pink and aquamarine Erdem Fall 2019 RTW sequin floral pattern halter dress which is covered in feather embellishment and features a below the knee hemline and a matching satin train. Honestly I feel like this dress is destined for Monday’s Met Gala, but if it isn’t snatched up for that red carpet then I definitely think it would be a fun bold option for Alexa to bring to life on the Cannes Film Festival red carpet. I would go with a bit of a 60’s inspired look adding a loose beehive updo, winged eyes, dark rose pink lips, a pair of black crystal studded Sergio Rossi ‘Sr1’ kitten heel sandals, and delicate Solange Azagury-Partridge ‘Bluebell’ diamond drop earrings. Now while typically Alexa is a supporter of British fashion on the red carpet I thought that she would be the perfect person to bring this black and brown Marc Jacobs Fall 2019 RTW off-the-shoulder tea length gown which is crafted in head-to-toe silk gazar structured feathers and includes chiffon details underneath the skirt to life off the runway. It definitely reminds me of that statement bohemian glam that Alexa is known for and I definitely think that Alexa could breathe her signature effortlessness into this gown. A sleek center-parted hairstyle tucked behind the ears, defined eyes, soft antique rose pink lips, a pair of black satin Roger Vivier ‘Flower Strass’ crystal embellished buckle pointed toe stiletto pumps, and Alison Lou alexandrite round cocktail drop earrings would finish this look to perfection making sure Alexa owns her time in Cannes as a L’Orealista. Y’all wont even know how hard it was to not go right to Dolce & Gabbana for supermodel and L’Orealista Bianca Balti to wear on the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival. This blog has become a Dolce & Gabbana free zone since Stefano Gabbana lost his mind and went on a Trump like rant about China and the Chinese people. Bianca is a face of Dolce & Gabbana so I would imagine that she will most likely wear a look from the label on the red carpet, but I am definitely not going to promote a wish for it to happen. Instead I shopped all the latest collections to find three looks I think that Bianca could easily shut down on the red carpet. Now while Bianca is a face of D&G some of my favorite red carpet moments of hers have come courtesy of Alberta Ferretti. So it was an easy option for me to head over to the Italian label to pick a look for Bianca to bring to life on the Cannes red carpet this year. I love this white silk Alberta Ferretti Fall 2019 RTW gown which features a silver and gold metallic beaded cutout bodice, a sweetheart neckline, and a long, flowing skirt and I definitely think it would be a really sexy, yet glamorous, moment on Bianca. I would want to have the gown slightly modified so that it has a really long train to add more drama to the look. Finishing the look with a sleek high ponytail updo, defined eyes, dark wine red lips, a pair of white Rene Caovilla ‘Larina’ sandals, and de Grisogono champagne diamond and emerald pendant drop earrings would definitely make this the epitome of modern sexy glamour on this red carpet. For Cannes I don’t typically endorse a black gown. I feel like black in Cannes is a cop-out typically. In this setting color and metallics definitely rule since it is a bright breezy location, but if L’Oreal decided to send Bianca to one of the later night premieres I think that she could deliver more sexy glamour wearing this black Atelier Versace Spring 2019 Couture one sleeve sheer embroidered column gown. Surprisingly Bianca has never worn Versace on the red carpet, and with the Dolce blackout on If I Was A Stylist I think that it’s time for that to change. Bianca loves sexy Italian glamour and Versace definitely epitomizes that aesthetic. I would style this gown with sleek center parted hair tucked behind the ears, smokey eyes, red lips, black Christian Louboutin ‘Forever Girl’ metal stud embellished strappy sandals, and a pair of statement de Grisogono diamond ear-crawlers to really make this a sexy subtle statement look for Bianca. The final look I’ve picked for Bianca to wear on this years Cannes Film Festival red carpet is probably the least likely of all the looks I’ve picked. This red Elie Saab Spring 2019 Couture portrait neckline gown features intricate draped pleating and I definitely think that it would be a different look for Bianca to deliver on the red carpet. She doesn’t really do this more ethereal take on glamour very often and I believe that she has the presence to really make this a gown a major moment especially if paired with a sleek updo, defined smokey eyes, red lips, a pair of strappy red Jimmy Choo ‘Mimi’ sandals, a statement de Grisogono white diamond and ruby circle collar necklace, and a geometric white diamond de Grisogono cuff bracelet. Jane Fonda has been a Cannes Film Festival staple for years now and she doesn’t seem to give any sign that she is slowing down any time soon. I will say that her Valentino Couture ensemble that she wore for last years red carpet was probably the most ‘old lady’ thing that we have ever seen Jane wear on a red carpet ever. I typically applaud her for bringing things to the red carpet that aren’t typically what we would expect from someone over the age of 75 to wear on the red carpet. She still knows how to bring the sex appeal to the red carpet even at 81. I definitely want to see that on full display with her looks at this years Cannes Film Festival. The first look I came up with for Jane is a custom cobalt blue Atelier Versace long sleeve gown which features a draped chiffon overlaid bodice intricate beading, a crystal embellished waist, and a v-neckline and a sweeping train. I have long been a fan of Jane in Versace. Every time that Jane wears a custom Versace gown on the red carpet I fall in love with it and I definitely think that she would sell this gown to me with effortless ease. Her signature short and full hairstyle, defined eyes, soft pink lips, a pair of navy satin Rene Caovilla ‘Evania’ pointed toe pumps, and a Chopard Red Carpet Collection diamond and sapphire wreath necklace are the perfect finishing touches to this look. Another brand that has always served Jane well is Balmain, so I again decided to create a custom look for Jane to bring to life on the Cannes Film Festival red carpet. I found an ice white sequin long sleeve mini dress with intricate silver beading in the Balmain Fall 2019 RTW collection trunkshow on Moda Operandi and I immediately thought of how it could make for a chic custom gown for the red carpet and so I asked Evita to lengthen it for Jane to wear in Cannes. I thought about adding a feathered hem, but I thought it would remind me too much of the Balmain that Priyanka Chopra wore to the Emmy’s a few years ago. This gown is definitely something I think that Jane could easily sell to me. She might ask that the plunge come up a little bit on the neckline, but I don’t know if she needs to. This gown would be perfectly complimented with her signature hair, defined eyes, soft pink lips, white satin Jimmy Choo ‘Romy Tiara’ crystal embellished pointed toe pumps, and a pair of statement Chopard Red Carpet Collection diamond and emerald interlocking vine chandelier earrings. The final look I’ve picked for Jane is the only off the runway look I think I want to see her wearing at this years festival with this amazing blue Givenchy Fall 2018 Couture caped gown which features a velvet bodice and an intricately embellished column skirt. This gown is definitely more dramatic than what we are used to seeing from Jane, but I feel like it would definitely be a major statement moment for her to bring to life on the Cannes Film Festival red carpet. I fell in love with this gown the moment I saw it come down the runway and I think that if Jane paired this gown with her signature hairstyle, defined eyes, red lips, a pair of navy satin Roger Vivier floral crystal buckled embellished pointed toe pumps, and a selection of Chopard Red Carpet Collection diamond and sapphire jewels including chic large stud earrings and a round cocktail ring that she would definitely be a contender for my Best of Cannes list. Maria Borges is one of my favorite models. I adore her look and her walk is KILLER! Her first Cannes in 2017 was major, but her looks last year were very disappointing. I want to see her bring some major moments to the red carpets at the Cannes Film Festival red carpet this year. What I love most about Cannes is that it is one of the few events where we can see an Alexis Mabille Couture collection on the red carpet. I adore the color of the brands Spring 2019 Couture collection and I really want to see Maria bring major color to the red carpet so when I was picking looks for her to bring to life for Cannes I saw this Alexis Mabille Spring 2019 Couture heart-shaped bustier gown in neon yellow radzimir silk, with ostrich feather plumes and fell in love. It is dramatic and glamorous and I really do believe that Maria would sell this gown to me with ease. I would add smokey eyes, glossy dark red lips, a pair of florescent yellow Jimmy Choo ‘Shiloh’ crystal embellished sandals, and a modern Messika white and yellow diamond choker necklace to really make this a major wow moment on this red carpet. For the second look I’ve picked for Maria I went to the Elie Saab Fall 2019 RTW collection. She has been a friend to the house for a while and I think that she would be the perfect person to dazzle us in this electric blue one sleeved gown which features all over sequin embellishment and a pleated skirt. I am obsessed with this gown and I definitely think that it is Cannes bound and Maria has the presence to really make the gown come to life especially if she paired it with navy smokey eyes, matte nude lips, a pair of electric blue Jimmy Choo ‘Dudette’ crystal trimmed strappy sandals, and statement Chopard Red Carpet Collection diamond and sapphire earrings. The final look I’ve picked for Maria is this custom Philosophy di Lorenzo Serafini dark lilac sequined gown inspired by a cocktail dress from the brands Pre-Fall 2019 RTW collection. The gown features a an all-over sequin fabrication with a deep V-neckline, low-swooping back, sleeveless silhouette, draped bodice, an asymmetric ruffle tiered skirt, and a sweeping train. At film festivals is really the only time we see custom Philosophy gowns on the red carpet and I am definitely intrigued to see what this years looks will look like since I have been obsessed with the labels collections as of late. I definitely think this color on Maria would be gorgeous and I think she could deliver this style of gown with effortless ease. Finish the look with smokey eyes, dark red glossy lips, a pair of simple gold Aquazzura ‘Purist’ metallic leather sandals, and Messika ‘Sun Tribe’ collection 18k gold set diamond jewelry including a statement necklace and matching cuff bracelet to ensure that Maria definitely delivers nothing but glamour on the Cannes Film Festival red carpet.

The 2019 Cannes Film Festival opens Monday May 13, 2019 and runs through Saturday May 25, 2019.

Cannes 2019: L’Orealista’s Red Carpet Wish List Part 2

Yesterday I talked a lot about the looks from L’Orealistas at the Cannes Film Festival that have made the transition to my Best Dressed of the Year list. Before they can make that list they have to make my Best of Cannes list. I haven’t been the most consistent in posting an individual list having only done them in 2018, 2017, 2016, 2015, and 2013. Each of the lists in 2013, 2015, and 2016 all featured just 10 looks while I had such a hard time narrowing looks in 2017 and 2018 that they both feature 21 looks. So how many of the 72 looks that have made the Best of Cannes lists have come from a L’Orealista? 27. I am definitely excited to see what everyone will bring to this years red carpet. I know that given that this years Official Selection doesn’t seem to be filled with as many a-list style stars that I am going to rely on the L’Orealista’s to deliver major moments as they ascend up those famous steps into the Palais de Festivals. Aja Naomi King made her Cannes Film Festival debut last year as a L’Orealista and really surprised me. She isn’t typically one of my favorite stars to see on the red carpet, but she rose to the occasion in Cannes wearing beautiful designs from Pamella Roland and Zuhair Murad Couture. So this year I am hoping that Aja continues to grow and deliver a major looks on the red carpet at this years edition. I wanted to do something a little different for Aja to wear in Cannes to kick off my wishes for her to bring to life on the red carpet picking a look from August Getty Atelier. The LA based designer isn’t typically a label I would associate with the Cannes Film Festival, but after he made his Paris Haute Couture Fashion Week debut back in January I decided that I wouldn’t count him out. I fell in love with this black and gold intricately beaded August Getty Atelier Spring 2019 Couture strapless column gown which features a dramatic asymmetrical folded detail back when it was first presented in January and I definitely think that despite the fact that it isn’t a big ball gown or have a dramatic train that it would be a perfect gown for Aja to bring to life on the Cannes Film Festival red carpet. This gown is a statement all on its own so I would just finish it with a sleek high updo, smokey eyes, glossy dark red lips, a pair of black Stuart Weitzman ‘Nudistsong’ crystal encrusted strap sandals, and Chopard Red Carpet Collection yellow diamond teardrop chandelier earrings. For the second look I’ve chosen for Aja to wear on the Cannes Film Festival red carpet I went with another non-traditional designer. In the last several years only two stars have worn a J. Mendel design on the Cannes Film Festival red carpet. Aja hasn’t worn J. Mendel before, but I definitely believe that this navy J. Mendel Fall 2019 RTW sheer tulle gown which features a plunging neckline, accordion pleat detailing along the bodice, a full skirt designed with rounded ruffle accents, and a sweeping train is something that Aja would definitely be able to deliver with effortless sophistication on the Cannes Film Festival red carpet. I know that with old Hollywood waves, smokey eyes, matte red lips, black Stuart Weitzman ‘Nudist Pearls’ ankle strap sandals embellished with white pearls, and a suite of Chopard Red Carpet Collection jewels including a pair of diamond and sapphire drop earrings and a matching statement necklace that this look would be perfect for the Cannes Film Festival red carpet. The final look I’ve picked for Aja to wear on this red carpet is the most typical ‘Cannes worthy’ gown that I’ve picked for her with this aqua Ralph & Russo Spring 2019 Couture asymmetric silk chiffon gown which features hand pleating and is embellished with aquamarine Swarovski stones. I LOVE this color and the flowing vibe of the gown fits perfectly with the seaside setting of the Cannes Film Festival perfectly. It would make for another perfect look for Aja to bring to life styled with a sleek updo, defined eyes, bright pink lips, a pair of silver Giuseppe Zanotti ‘Adaile’ crystal embellished stiletto sandals, and more Chopard Red Carpet Collection jewels including a pair of simple aquamarine, sapphire, and diamond pendant drop earrings and a statement diamond and aquamarine cuff bracelet. Each of these looks would ensure that Aja just continues to grow in her red carpet sartorial decisions, and rise to the occasion of the Cannes Film Festival. Barbara Palvin made her Cannes Film Festival debut as a L’Orealista way back in 2012. I loved the Valentino Couture moment she wore that year, but to be honest she isn’t typically one of my favorite L’Orealista’s to see on the red carpet. I think it is because she is so all over the map when it comes to consistency of style and fit. I definitely want to see her bring the glamour to the red carpet this year, and I feel like given some of the looks that Barbara has delivered some really chic looks on the red carpet so I have a good feeling. I think that classic glamour and bohemian elegance are the foundation of Barbara’s style and that made it pretty difficult to pick looks for her. I was drawn to this vibrant purple Elie Saab Fall 2018 Couture strapless draped gown for Barbara as it is a meshing of classic glamour and bohemian elegance. I decided I wanted to pick one look that mixed both ideas and then one that was just an iteration of each aesthetic. This Elie Saab gown is devoid of any of the brands signature embellishments, but the drama and glamour of this gown definitely make it a major moment for Barbara to deliver on the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival. A loose romantic updo, bold defined winged eyes, dark red lips, purple Gianvito Rossi crystal embellished satin sandals, and chic Chopard Red Carpet Collection purple tanzanite chandelier necklace would make it perfection. I went in much more of a dazzling glamour direction for my second wish for Barbara with this gold Moschino Fall 2019 RTW sequined gown which features a strapless, sweetheart neckline, a fitted silhouette, and bow-detailed accents. This is definitely a statement look. When it comes to Moschino on the red carpet it isn’t very often we see the brand off the runway, and even rarer that we see it on the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival, but I definitely think that especially on a model that this gown would be perfect for Cannes especially if paired with a sleek 40’s inspired updo, thick defined cat eyes, red lips, a pair of gold Rene Caovilla crystal embellished sandals, and statement floral scroll Chopard Red Carpet Collection multicolor gemstone drop earrings. The final look I’ve chosen for Barbara is in line with the bohemian side of her style. She has had some tremendous success wearing custom Philosophy bi Lorenzo Serafini gowns on the red carpets at both the Cannes and Venice Film Festivals. So I decided that I wanted to create a custom gown from the label for Barbara to wear on the Cannes red carpet this year. So I went to the brands Spring 2019 RTW collection to an intricately embroidered ruffled tulle mini dress to create the tiered ruffled gown with a plunging neckline for Barbara to wear on this red carpet. A short curly bob hairstyle, smokey eyes, dark rose pink lips, a pair of gold and anthracite grey crystal embellished Rene Caovilla satin sandals, and ruby Chopard Red Carpet Collection cluster earrings all would make this look absolutely gorgeous for the Cannes Film Festival red carpet. Duckie Thot continues to rise her star in the modeling world. She will be making her Cannes Film Festival debut this year as a L’Orealista. I am actually a little surprised that Duckie has jumped ship from Fenty Beauty. She kinda became a big thing when she stared in the ad campaign that launched the Fenty Beauty brand. I have to say I am a little worried about Duckie on this red carpet since I don’t really know what her style is and she hasn’t really delivered a red carpet look in the past that has caught my eye. I am hoping that she will turn to some of the brands that she has walked for in the past to help dress her for one of the most important red carpets of the year. Of the three look I’ve picked for Duckie to wear for her Cannes debut only one comes from a designer she hasn’t worked with within the last year and that is the black and red geometric wave embroidered pattern Alexander McQueen Resort 2019 strapless gown which features a sweetheart neckline, fitted hips, and a tiered flared skirt. I pretty much knew the other two looks that I was going to use for Duckie for her Cannes debut and I went around and around looking at options for the third look I wanted to pick. So it happens that third look comes first alphabetically so it comes up first even though it was the last of the looks I chose for Duckie to wear on this red carpet. I just thought that given some of Duckie’s previous red carpet looks that this could be an elevated version of her style for the Cannes Film Festival red carpet. Pair it with a sleek updo, smokey eyes, glossy dark red lips, a pair of black Alexander McQueen beaded bow detail sandals, and a statement black and white diamond de Grisogono collar necklace to really make it perfect. One designer I would easily put money on Duckie wearing for her Cannes Film Festival debut is Balmain. Over the last year Duckie has walked in every Balmain show and was the face of the brands Fall 2018 ad campaign, so I feel like Olivier would definitely be willing to whip something up for her to wear on this red carpet. I decided to modify a black sequin mini dress I found online which features long sleeves, a plunging neckline, and an acid green feather embroidered on it adding a dramatic feathered skirt with a train to it. I think that this is definitely something right up Duckie’s ally and I honestly believe that out of all the looks I picked for her that it is something like this that we are most likely going to see her wearing on the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival. I would love to see this gown paired with a sleek bang hairstyle defined eyes, glossy nude lips, black crystal and spike studded Christian Louboutin ‘Mechante Reine Spikes’ ribbon strap pointed toe pumps, and a pair of black and white diamond de Grisogono tassel earrings. The final look I’ve picked for Duckie to wear on the Cannes red carpet is definitely the riskiest. Duckie just walked in the now iconic and uber inclusive Valentino Spring 2019 Couture show. It celebrated beauty of women who looked so incredibly different and I loved it. The styles that were shown in the collection were as varried as the models who wore the looks. While there are definitely plenty of big ball gowns that I could have chosen for Duckie to snatch off that runway for Cannes I decided to go with something totally unexpected with this Valentino Spring 2019 Couture ensemble which features a cap sleeve canary yellow crop top, brown undershirt, and khaki high waisted paper bag wide leg trousers. For Cannes I typically would have picked a look like this for one of the a-list stars to wear for a photocall, but I feel like that if anyone could make it work for a gala premiere red carpet it would be Duckie. I know that it won’t be to everyone’s taste, but I definitely think it would be a major moment. Pair it with a sleek high ponytail, smokey eyes, nude lips, a pair of matching yellow pointed toe pumps, and a pair of de Grisogono black and yellow diamond drop earrings to secure this as one of the most statement making looks that Duckie has ever worn on a red carpet. Irina Shayk really disappointed me this awards season. I went into it expecting major things and she let me down on every red carpet she walked with boyfriend Bradley Cooper. I hope that she is planning on attending this years Cannes Film Festival and is planning some major fashion moments to compensate for the fact that she left me with a drought of sexy glamour over the course of awards season. Irina almost always goes for bold sexy glamour when she is picking looks to wear on the red carpet in Cannes. We are used to seeing her wearing looks from labels like Versace, Balmain, Roberto Cavalli, and Prada. I definitely want to keep her sexy alive and bring all the drama I am craving to this red carpet. To do that I have two custom gowns from designers we are used to seeing Irina wearing on the red carpet, and another that is the perfect ethereal sexy off the runway moment for Irina to wear in Cannes. The first is a custom peridot green Atelier Versace draped halter gown which mixes silk charmuse and chiffon and features a plunging neckline, gold crystal embellished safety pin detail on the hip, open back, a fit to flare silhouette, and a dramatic train. This is definitely a typical Versace moment and what I love most about the look is definitely the color. Cannes is a place for color and this color on Irina would be phenomenal. Finish this look with old Hollywood waves, defined eyes, soft pink lips, a pair of bold gold Jimmy Choo ‘Mimi’ strappy sandals, and a pair of de Grisogono yellow diamond and emerald drop earrings. Look two comes courtesy of a custom red Balmain gown that I created the idea for after being inspired by the leather corsets from the Balmain Fall 2019 RTW collection. I definitely think that at some point in the next several weeks we are likely to see Olivier Rousting showcase a look on the red carpet that utilizes one of these corsets. I love the sexy and dramatic flamenco vibe that we created by dying the lilac runway corset red and pairing it with a tiered chiffon skirt that I definitely want to see have a dramatic train trailing behind it on the red carpet. I would keep that sexy glamour going with a sleek updo, smoke eyes, red lips, a pair of red Christian Louboutin ‘Forever KST’ crystal studded satin strappy sandals, and a statement diamond, ruby, and pearl de Grisogono pearl necklace. The final look I’ve picked for Irina is this white Ralph & Russo Spring 2019 Couture one shoulder silk chiffon draped gown, embellished with crystals, xilions, sequins and devoré ostrich feathers. This sheer gown done just right could be the perfect meshing of sensuality and elegance. I believe that Irina has the right mix of sex appeal and glamour to really make this an absolutely gorgeous moment on the Cannes Film Festival red carpet especially if paired with a sleek updo, defined eyes, red lips, a pair of silver Jimmy Choo ‘Lilah’ metallic leather platform sandals, and de Grisogono diamond pendant drop earrings.Finishing out today is one of the Queens of Cannes, Sonam Kapoor. The Bollywood actress knows how to own a Cannes Film Festival red carpet. I always am excited to see what she will wear, but honestly her last 3 years worth of looks have all kind of blurred together to me. I want her to really deliver some major moments this year. Last year Sonam was only able to stay one day in Cannes and took to the red carpet at the Palais de Festivals wearing a sari inspired ensemble custom created for her by Ralph & Russo. It was beautiful, but very similar to the Elie Saab looks she wore the year before, and even more similar to the Ralph & Russo gowns she wore the year before that. This year I want Sonam to bring bold glamour to the Cannes Film Festival red carpet, while still paying tribute to her Indian culture. The first look I would love to see Sonam bring to life in Cannes is this red Georges Hobeika Spring 2019 Couture strapless ballgown which features a multi-tone ruffled skirt and a dramatic train. We tend to see quite a bit of Georges Hobeika in Cannes, but it isn’t a label we have seen Sonam wearing in the past. This color too is bolder than we are used to seeing from her, but I feel like it is the perfect statement look for her to wear for the 2019 Cannes Film Festival red carpet. Pair this statement gown with a sleek updo, smokey eyes, nude glossy lips, a pair of red crystal embellished Jimmy Choo ‘Lancer’ strappy pointed toe pumps, and statement Sabyasachi (an important Indian designer) diamond, ruby, and pearl tassel earrings and I know that this would easily be a Best of Cannes, if not a Best of 2019, contender. The second look I’ve picked for Sonam is a little more in tune with the looks that she has been wearing, but even more dramatic. I took the Ralph & Russo Fall 2018 Couture chantilly lace bridal gown which features a plunging neckline with statement tulle overlay, oversized corsage shoulder detailing and cascading tulle train and is embellished with layers of hand cut floral lace appliqué in a glitter finish, metallic silver xilions, crystals and pearls in an ornate design and had it died in a soft peony pink. I wouldn’t typically look at the brides from any couture show as an option for the red carpet, but the style of this gown is just so in tune with what we are used to seeing from Sonam on the red carpet that with it being died I knew it would be perfect for her to bring to life in Cannes. Now when I had my photo editor Evita create this I was thinking of adding embroideries that were taken from authentic Indian saris, that is where the embroidery on the bodice comes from. As I write this I realize that I’m not a huge fan of it and just changing the color would make this gown perfect for Sonam. I would imagine this look would need a sleek updo, defined eyes, dark pink lips, a pair of pink Jimmy Choo ‘Sereno’ jeweled buckle suede sandals, and a selection of Chopard Red Carpet Collection jewels including a pair of flirty pink amethyst, yellow diamond, and opal floral cluster earrings and a pink amethyst scroll work cuff bracelet to really be the major moment I know it has the potential to be. The final look I would like to see from Sonam is a pretty classic princess moment that I would edge up with styling. I adore this cream Ulyana Sergeenko Fall 2018 Couture strapless ball gown which features a smooth strapless bustier bodice and a tiered ruffled ball skirt and I definitely think that it is something she would be drawn to. Add a statement Sabyasachi emerald and diamond collar necklace, a vintage inspired updo, smokey eyes, burgundy lips, and a pair of gold metallic leather and PVC Christian Louboutin ‘Fairdaravie’ round studded sandals to make sure that this is just another major Queen of Cannes moment for Sonam.

The 2019 Cannes Film Festival opens Monday May 13, 2019 and runs through Saturday May 25, 2019.

Cannes 2019: L’Orealista’s Red Carpet Wish List Part 1

✔ Golden Globes. ✔ Grammy’s. ✔ Oscars. ✔ Met Gala.

I have covered a huge chunk of the biggest red carpets of the year already, and the year isn’t even half over yet. Today we kick off my wishes for the next major red carpet event: the 2019 Cannes Film Festival. This is always one of my favorite red carpets of the year. At the start of my wishes for these major events I always get excited to look back at my Best Dressed of the Year lists that I have written dating back to 2011 when I started If I Was A Stylist and see how many times looks from those events have made the cut. Since I started doing those lists there has been at least one look from the Cannes Film Festival in the ranks of my Best Dressed of the Year list. Will this years edition also deliver one? I would bet on it. To kick off my Cannes 2019 wishes I am starting with, as I always do, the L’Orealista’s. These lovely ladies are global brand ambassadors for makeup and hair care brand L’Oreal Paris, who sponsors the festival. Almost every night of the festival at the main slate premiere L’Oreal sends at least 3 of its spokesmodels to walk the red carpet at the Palais de Festivals up those famous steps just to add glamour to the red carpet. Seven of the sixteen looks from the Cannes Film Festival that have made it on my Best Dressed of the Year list came courtesy of a L’Orealista. So the stakes for the looks these ladies will wear are HIGH!Bollywood beauty Aishwarya Rai is a fixture in Cannes and has been for more than a decade. She ALWAYS shuts down the red carpet. Last year she wore two beautiful gowns: one by Rami Kadi and the other by Michael Cinco. She almost made my Best Dressed of the Year cut, but was in my final round of slashes. I am expecting her to shut the red carpet down, as always. She finds the major moments that really get people talking. The last two years her most talked about red carpet looks have come courtesy of Michael Cinco. I thought about picking another look from the label for Aishwarya to wear this year, but decided to branch her out instead. By branch out I just mean pick looks from designers she hasn’t worn in Cannes in a really long time. Up first is a bright goldenrod yellow Ali Younes Spring 2019 Couture taffeta gown which features a straight strapless neckline, draped ruffled peplum, side split, and a dramatic train. The color is what drew me to this gown for Aishwarya. I cannot recall her wearing a color like this and I honestly think it would be DIVINE on her. The style of the gown is definitely everything that she loves and I think that with a sleek vintage 40’s inspired updo, smokey eyes, burgundy red lips, a pair of strappy gold Aquazzura ‘Gina’ metallic leather sandals, and a gorgeous diamond and yellow pearl Chopard collar necklace that this would be an amazing moment for Aishwarya to bring to life on the Cannes Film Festival red carpet. Now of course I had to pick more than one look for Aishwarya, and all of the L’Orealista’s, since they walk the red carpet several times during their time at the festival. For my second option for Aishwarya I thought I would go a little moodier picking this plum silk gazzar Elie Saab Fall 2018 Couture one shoulder gown which features dramatic ruffle on the shoulder and peplum, a column skirt, and a dramatic train attached at the back of the waist. I LOVE this gown and have since it first came down the runway last July. I’m a little surprised it didn’t get snatched up during the fall film festival season or during awards season, so I am praying that it ends up on a Cannes Film Festival red carpet. I think that of everyone who is expected to be in Cannes this year that Aishwarya is the perfect person to bring such a statement gown to life on this red carpet. She has the presence to take this gown, which is already a moment in itself, and infuse this sultry (yet sophisticated) drama and glamour into a gown like this especially if styled with a sleek updo, smokey eyes, dark rose pink lips, a pair of matching plum red Rene Caovilla crystal embellished platform sandals, and statement mismatched multicolor gemstone Chopard Loves Rihanna floral and butterfly chandelier earrings. The final look I want to see Aishwarya wearing during her time at this years Cannes Film Festival is this absolutely GORGEOUS Mark Bumgarner Fall 2019 Couture strapless emerald greed sequin embellished bustier gown. Aishwarya actually introduced me to Mark Bumgarner a few years ago when she wore one of his creations for a press appearance during the Cannes Film Festival. Ever since I have always looked to his collections to see if there was a perfect look for her to wear for this red carpet and the moment I saw this gown I thought it was a match made in heaven. It is a real sexy glamorous statement and I definitely think that it is something Aishwarya would own on this red carpet. Add old Hollywood waves worn over one shoulder, smokey eyes, bold matte red lips, a pair of emerald green satin Jimmy Choo ‘Kenny’ crystal embellished lace up sandals, and a statement diamond and emerald Chopard Red Carpet Collection collar necklace to make this another perfect Cannes Film Festival red carpet moment. Supermodel Doutzen Kroes is one of many of the actual models who are a L’Orealista. The brand has a pretty decent mix of actresses, music stars, and models who represent the brand around the world. Doutzen is gorgeous. She has also been one of the L’Orealista’s who have had a Cannes red carpet moment make my Best Dressed of the Year list. That was back in 2012. I will say that sense then Doutzen’s style has seemed to evolve. She used to be all about sexy and dramatic glamour on the red carpet and I don’t feel like we have quite seen that from her in the last few years. I decided to play with a meshing of her high glam era and her current more relaxed style in my wishes for her to wear for this years Cannes Film Festival. Up first is the first custom gown I have for this years festival with this amazing electric blue custom Atelier Versace crystal mesh gown which feature a mermaid silhouette, straight neckline, satin train, and thick straps. This gown started its life as a 1990’s Atelier Versace crop top and mini skirt and quickly evolved into this major high glam moment. Now Doutzen could easily rock this color with her current style, but it has been a while since she wore a gown with a really dramatic train. What better place for a train to make a red carpet return that at the Cannes Film Festival. Pair this gown with a sleek high ponytail, defined eyes, red lips, a pair of black Giuseppe Zanotti ‘Lynette’ crystal embellished sandals, and glamorous de Grisogono diamond and cabochon sapphire chandelier earrings to make it sleek, sexy, and glamorous from head to toe. Following that look I decided to shun a gown and pick some super surprising red carpet lady pants for Doutzen to rock on the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival. It isn’t very often we see one of the ladies, especially a L’Orealista, wearing pants on the Cannes Film Festival red carpet. So picking this black Olivier Theyskens Fall 2019 RTW ensemble which features a cropped cutout silk top and straight leg high waisted crepe pants is a bit of a risk, but if anyone could sell it to me it is Doutzen. This look is sexy, edgy, and glamorous and I definitely think it is worthy of the Cannes Film Festival red carpet. I would add sleek center parted hair tucked behind the ears, smokey eyes, red lips, black draped mesh Balenciaga ‘Knife’ pointed toe pumps, and a pair of statement de Grisogono emerald and sapphire drop earrings to finish this look out perfectly. For the last look I decided to go with probably the most likely of these three looks picking this black Tom Ford body-con gown which features a silver bugle beaded waist, a jewel neckline, thigh high split, and dramatic long sleeves attached to circular streamer at back. She has been seated front row at several Tom Ford fashion shows (almost always wearing one of the designers fitted gowns), worn a tuxedo from the label in Cannes last year, and wore a Tom Ford mini dress to the amfAR Gala in Cannes back in 2016. She is devoted to Tom and his designs look amazing on her. The moment I saw this gown I knew it screamed Doutzen and that I knew I had to use it in my L’Orealista wishes for her. I LOVE this gown and I want to see it be a really major moment on the Cannes Film Festival red carpet so I would style it with a sleek updo, defined eyes, dark red lips, a pair of black Tom Ford crystal embellished velvet sandals, and de Grisogono diamond fan drop earrings. All these looks would ensure a major Cannes run for Doutzen. Last year Helen Mirren dazzled me wearing a medieval inspired blue velvet Elie Saab Couture gown on the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival. She only attended the one event and I am hoping that she stays more than just a day in Cannes. I have always been a big fan of Helen’s style because she always delivers really glamorous, sexy, and fun looks on the red carpet. I don’t tend to say those last two things about many stars of Helen’s age, but she doesn’t let that number dictate what she is and isn’t allowed to wear. So I kept that idea in my mind while I was picking looks for her to wear on the red carpets in Cannes this year. The first look I’ve picked for Helen is from one of her favorite labels, Badgley Mischka. I know that Helen would be drawn to this dark gold fully sequined gown from the Badgley Mischka Fall 2019 RTW collection which features a plunging neckline, long sleeves, a belted waist, column silhouette, and a ruffled down the center of the skirt and I think it is the perfect glamour moment for her to wear on this red carpet. It definitely has that femme fatale glamour vibe to it and I know Helen could sell the gown to me. Badgley Mischka isn’t typically a label I think of when I think of Cannes, but if anyone could bring the brand from NYC to the south of France it would be Helen. Add a pair of black Roger Vivier ‘I Love Vivier’ pointed toe pumps, a Helen’s signature whispy hairstyle, defined eyes, red lips, and Chopard Red Carpet Collection yellow diamond drop earrings and I know I would love this look on Helen. Now I couldn’t go a Cannes wish list for Helen without adding a single Elie Saab moment for her to bring to life. She was honestly one of the first people whom I thought of the moment I saw this jade green Elie Saab Fall 2018 Couture long sleeve mermaid gown which features an asymmetrical neckline, gold belted waist, and an asymmetrical ruffle on the skirt. I honestly think that her stylist, Lee Harris, has already called this gown in for Cannes and has it on reserve. I believe that Helen is definitely one of the major contenders to make this gown work especially if paired with a gold beaded Roger Vivier box clutch, punchy pink lips, a pair of gold Roger Vivier ‘Decollete’ crystal flower buckle pointed toe pumps, and statement Chopard Red Carpet Collection multi precious stone earrings. The last look I have for Helen is probably the one I would most want to see her wear on this red carpet. Helen loved a rock and roll vibe on the red carpet so I think she would shut down the Cannes Film Festival red carpet wearing this black Reem Acra Fall 2019 RTW long sleeve column gown which features a gold metal and crystal studs covering the gown. Now since this is Cannes I might want to ask Reem to lengthen the train of this gown to add more DRAMA, but I also think it is perfect for Helen as is. I would finish this look with dark red lips and a pair of black Aquazzura ‘Shiva’ mesh pointed toe pumpsLi Yuchun (AKA Chris Lee) is a Chinese pop star and actress. I first learned about Li back in 2013 when she made her Cannes Film Festival debut as a L’Orealista. Since that debut Li has always brought an edgy glamour to the red carpet at the festival. She brings this look that we don’t see most deliver on this red carpet. She isn’t afraid to play masculine or feminine and she isn’t afraid of the avant garde. She is one that typically likes to wear great red carpet lady pants on the Cannes Film Festival red carpet so I definitely decided to keep with that idea (mostly) for her time in Cannes this year. The first look I want to see Li bring to life is definitely one I feel like she could easily be drawn to. This black strapless Giambattista Valli Spring 2019 Couture tuxedo inspired jumpsuit which features a sheer chiffon overskirt with a dramatic train is a meshing of the masculine and feminine that I feel like Li is typically drawn to. I feel like it is a perfect look for her to wear in Cannes. Her signature grey hair styled into a sleek side parted pixie, defined eyes, antique rose pink lips, simple black Christian Louboutin ‘Loubi Queen’ leather sandals, and a statement black and white diamond de Grisogono collar necklace would definitely make this a major moment for the star. Li is a face of Gucci in China and has worn custom gowns by the label on the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival the last two years, so I definitely wanted to include a Gucci look for her to bring to life on this years red carpet as well. Li tends to pay some homage to her Chinese culture in at least one look she wears during the Cannes Film Festival, and recently those looks have come thanks to Gucci. So when I told Evita, who edits all my custom looks, that I wanted something that screams Gucci, but also pays homage to Chinese culture this is what she sent back. A short sleeve ballgown which features a mandarin collar, sequin dragon sleeves, intricate Chinese inspired sequin scroll work on the bodice, and a pleated tiered fan inspired ball skirt. Now Li doesn’t wear a whole lot of gowns on the red carpet, but I definitely could see her shutting down the Cannes Film Festival red carpet wearing this custom Gucci gown especially if paired with that signature sleek pixie, defined eyes, dark nude lips, red Gucci ‘Queen Margaret’ bow heel pointed toe pumps, and a pair of diamond stud earrings. Now I couldn’t finish out a set of Cannes wishes for Li without a single Jean Paul Gaultier look for her to bring to life on the red carpet. She wears a Gaultier Couture look almost every year in Cannes and this year I want to see her sell this structured black Jean Paul Gaultier Spring 2019 Couture tuxedo to me. It is edgy and angular and I KNOW she would own this look on the red carpet. I would definitely keep the look uber edgy adding smokey eyes, nude lips, a pair of black lace Christian Louboutin satin toe cap pointed toe booties, and a statement Chopard Red Carpet Collection carved pendant feather embellished collar necklace to ensure Li does nothing but slay Cannes this year. Finishing out today is the beautiful bombshell Taylor Hill. I have always felt like Taylor has amazing style, but it doesn’t reach its full potential. Since is is a L’Oreal campaign girl I definitely want to see her finally make her Cannes Film Festival debut. I feel like Cannes could be a sink or swim moment for Taylor and I hope that she rises to the occasion. So for her Cannes debut I have picked three major looks for her to bring to life. The first is a custom dark water-colored Alberta Ferretti halter gown which features a keyhole neckline, beaded embroidery on the waist, and an ombre feathered hem and train. I definitely think that this gown delivers major mermaid vibes and what place better to deliver those kind of vibes on a red carpet than one set in the French Riviera. This gown is a mix of bohemian and glamour and I definitely feel like it would be perfect for Taylor to wear in Cannes, especially with a pair of gold studded Christian Louboutin ‘Jamais Azzez’ PVC t-strap sandals, a sleek updo, defined eyes, rose pink lips, and Chopard Red Carpet Collection gold set pink rubellite and diamond drop earrings. Following that I went for bold statement color picking this hot pink Carolina Herrera Fall 2019 RTW layered pleated tulle ball gown. I love this gown and I definitely think we will see it on a red carpet soon. For the Met Gala I wished that creative designer Wes Gordon would add a dramatic train to the gown, and I definitely want to reiterate that to make this look perfect for Taylor to wear in Cannes. Another sleek updo, defined eyes, soft pink lips, a pair of candy floss pink Jimmy Choo ‘Mimi’ metallic leather strappy sandals, and statement pink sapphire and emerald Chopard Red Carpet Collection pendant drop earrings would make this look a major statement moment for Taylor to deliver on this red carpet. American designers are definitely not the most popular in Cannes, but I decided that I wanted to see Taylor bring another to life at the festival anyway. I knew from the very beginning of the planning of my wishes for this years festival that I wanted to pick this femme fatale glam black Oscar de la Renta Fall 2019 RTW strapless ballgown for Taylor to deliver on this red carpet. I love how overlaid in velvet-accented embroidered tulle, its arabesque pattern grows with the fullness of the skirt for a quiet statement of sexy glamour and I definitely believe that Taylor would easily be able to sell this look to me on the red carpet. I would add a vintage inspired updo, smokey eyes, red lips, a pair of black Jimmy Choo ‘Shiloh’ crystal embellished strap sandals, and a statement Chopard Red Carpet Collection diamond and emerald necklace to really drive home the femme fatale glamour of this gown.

The 2019 Cannes Film Festival opens Monday May 13, 2019 and runs through Saturday May 25, 2019.

“The Sun is Also a Star” Premiere Red Carpet Wish List

The Sun is Also a Star looks like it is the perfect meshing of a romantic comedy and a movie with a political message. I honestly hadn’t formulated an option on the idea of the film until right before I started writing this post this morning. I did however know that since the film stars Yara Shahidi that I wanted to make sure that I put a wish out into the universe for her to wear on the red carpet at the films premiere. Yara Shahidi is a young fashionista and definitely loves to play with her style. She recently has been on a Balmain kick and I wonder if that will continue through the promo tour for this movie. While I personally do love a great Balmain moment on the red carpet, and Yara has definitely been delivering them, I wanted to go in a different and unexpected direction with my wish for her. I was getting ready to pick this black slip style Dries Van Noten Fall 2019 RTW column gown which features bold gold sequined structured shoulders for one of my other recent wish lists, but then I thought of how cool this gown would be on Yara and I did a quick change of mind and picked it for her to wear on the red carpet at the premiere of The Sun is Also a Star. It mixed effortless ease, high fashion, and bold glamour quite easily and I definitely think that Yara has the presence to really make a gown like this come to life. I would leave the sequined jacket the model has draped around her elbows at home as the shoulder detail of the gown gives this look just enough edge and sparkle. I would finish the look with full pulled back bouncy curls, defined eyes, cinnamon red lips, a pair of black Tabitha Simmons ‘Avary’ feather detailed satin sandals, and Nak Armstrong ‘Spray’ geometric stud earrings made with emerald, green tourmaline, labradorite, and white diamonds set in 20K recycled rose gold to make sure that this look is head to toe edgy, yet effortless, glamour.

The premiere of The Sun is Also a Star is expected to take place in a to be decided city on Monday May 13, 2019.

“Pokémon: Detective Pikachu” NYC Premiere Red Carpet Wish List

Expected to take place the Thursday before the Met Gala in NYC I am expecting all of the big names in Pokémon: Detective Pikachu to be on the red carpet at the films big premiere in NYC. To be completely honest the movie itself does nothing for me. While I was of the generation where Pokémon took off and became the cultural phenomenon that is is I was never able to get into it, even though I tried. This movie premiere however gets me really excited because I know that the cast, and one always major plus one, have the potential to make this a mini Met Gala ahead of the actual Met the following Monday! Blake Lively doesn’t actually have a role in Pokémon: Detective Pikachu, but her husband Ryan Reynolds is the lead and I can almost guarantee that she will be by his side on this red carpet. Now most plus ones would have been at the bottom of a wish list behind all the people who actually star in the movie, but Blake always brings her a-game even when she is just acting as a plus one that I decided to keep her in her alphabetical spot at the top of this list. I was thinking a lot about kitsch when it came to my Met Gala wishes and I honestly had to do a bit of a mental reset when I was done so that looks for other events didn’t come across as, well, kitschy. I went back and forth on whether or not this bright sunshine yellow Atelier Versace Spring 2019 Couture pencil dress which features and off the shoulder sweetheart neckline was too kitschy for this premiere given the fact that the title Pokémon is yellow. Obviously I decided with this dress to embrace the kitsch and make the wish for Blake to wear this dress for this premiere. Now Blake is a shoe whore, especially when it comes to Christian Louboutin. It has been said that she snaps a photo of the dress she is going to wear for an event or appearance and sends the photo to Christian Louboutin and jeweler Lorraine Schwartz and they send her options that they think would go best with whatever she has picked. So of course I turned to both to pick the perfect accessories for this look. From Louboutin I picked a major pair of statement multicolor and multi pattern ‘Eclipse’ t-strap sandals and from Schwartz it was simple yet chic emerald cut emerald and diamond drop earrings to compliment this look perfectly. Finishing the look with old Hollywood waves, defined smokey eyes, and blush pink lips would ensure that this is an absolutely major plus one ensemble for Blake to bring to life on this red carpet.I am hoping that Kathryn Newton really makes a wave this year. She started her red carpet dossier strong with major looks from Gucci and Dior, but then she fell to the wayside and I am hoping with the impending Big Little Lies Season 2 and the fact she has roles in some major movies that she will definitely be one to keep an eye on again. She did rock hot off the runway Ralph & Russo Couture for the Vanity Fair Oscar Party earlier this year. I am hoping that come the premiere of Pokémon: Detective Pikachu next week that she is on the red carpet and delivering a look. I decided to go for something that we haven’t seen from Kathryn yet picking this black and blue velvet Giorgio Armani Fall 2019 RTW one shoulder jumpsuit which features a ruffled shoulder, color and texture blocking, and a bit of a harem pant hip vibe. I don’t know what it was about this look exactly that caught my eye to be perfectly honest, but when I was struggling to pick the right look for Kathryn to wear on this red carpet I was just drawn to this idea. I think that this look could help usher in a new chapter of Kathryn’s style. Add a sleek updo, smokey eyes, blush pink glossy lips, a navy marbled resin L’Ashfar box clutch, a pair of black Jimmy Choo ‘Lynn’ crystal embellished strappy sandals, and a selection of Kallati diamond and sapphire jewels including a pair of chic drop earrings and a statement cocktail ring to definitely make this a major moment for this red carpet. Rita Ora always knows how to bring the drama to a red carpet, but instead of the typical big dramatic looks that we would typically see her wearing for a blockbuster movie premiere (no matter how small a roll she plays) I decided to go for more of a relaxed vibe with this bright orange Dundas Spring 2019 Couture textured silk suit which features a blazer cum robe jacket, a bralet top, and high waisted wide leg pants. I saw this look and it just clicked. I know it is something that I could see Rita wearing for many different events. A movie premiere isn’t typically one of them, but I just feel like for the vibe of the movie that this look just works. I would style it with a sleek updo, smokey eyes, burgundy lips, a pair of gold Christian Louboutin ‘Deck’ strappy metallic leather pointed toe pumps, and a statement Bulgari High Jewelry ‘Roaring 80’s’ 18 kt yellow gold necklace set with one 34.12 ct oval Colombia emerald, one smaller oval emerald, buff-top emeralds, onyx elements, baguette-cut and pavé diamonds to definitely make this look a major sexy boss lady moment on this red carpet. Last on this list is the beautiful Suki Waterhouse. When it comes to Suki’s red carpet looks she always peaks when she is on a movie premiere red carpet and I am PRAYING that she delivers a major moment on this red carpet. My wish however is rather simple and standard as she actually has a small role in Pokémon: Detective Pikachu. I decided to go with this classic black Christian Dior Fall 2019 RTW a-line midi dress which features textured fabrication, braided straps, a ruched waist, and a sheer midi skirt over a mini skirt because it is one of the only looks from the most recent Dior collection I actually like and I think Suki could infuse some life into this dress. A romantic updo, defined eyes, pink lips, a pair of black and gold Tabitha Simmons ‘Iceley’ crystal embellished scrappy sandals, and Chopard Red Carpet Collection drop earrings in 18k white gold with two grey pear shaped moonstone cabochon drops, orange-red sapphires, black onyx and diamonds would all make sure that this look is incredibly chic and at from basic.

The NYC premiere of Pokémon: Detective Pikachu is expected to take place on Thursday May 2, 2019.

“Tolkien” London Premiere Red Carpet Wish List

Now that my Met Gala wishes are over, and before I dive deep into Cannes Film Festival, there are a couple movies with end of April and early May releases that I wanted to get wishes put out into the universe for. The first is for the London premiere of Tolkien. It is the story of the famed author of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings books. The film explores his life and how he was inspired to write his famed novels. It has a pretty decent cast and I am excited to see what happens both with the film in its reception and with the cast on the red carpet. Typically, based on synopsis, I would think a film like this would be an awards season contender, but given the fact that this movie is coming out so early tells me that Fox Searchlight is not planning a big awards season campaign for the film. So I better enjoy the promo tour. Nicholas Hoult stars as in this film as the title role J. R. R. Tolkien. He is definitely one who flip flops when it comes to his red carpet style. Take this awards season for example. He started awards season at the Golden Globes wearing a simple classic black tuxedo. Flash forward to the Oscars he brought the fashion factor wearing a scarf draped Dior Men tuxedo hot off the brands latest runway. It made me excited to really see Nicholas play with his style and I want to see him continue to do so. For this London premiere of Tolkien I would love to see Nicholas give us classic with a twist by wearing this black Givenchy Spring 2019 Couture one button double breasted tuxedo which features intricate beaded embroidery on the jacket. I definitely fell in love with this suit the moment I saw it. If I had Givenchy Couture money I would definitely have this hanging in my closet. It is an absolutely beautiful suit and I think that Nicholas has the right stature to really make me fall in love with this suit all over again, especially paired with black patent leather toecap Christian Louboutin ‘Alpha Male’ slip on derbies made up of a velvet vamp and half d’Orsay openings in black satin. Now for the always beautiful Lily Collins I decided that while brands don’t usually dress two stars for the same movie premiere that since she has a relationship with Givenchy already that picking a gown for her from the label would be just right. I loved this black strapless gown from the Givenchy Fall 2019 RTW collection which features intricate silver beading, an a-line skirt, and sheer paneled pleats the moment I saw it and I definitely believe that Lily would wear it with effortless ease on a red carpet like this. Pair it with simple black Jimmy Choo ‘Shiloh’ crystal embellished sandals, an old Hollywood inspired updo, defined eyes, red lips, and Amwaj diamond two strand drop earrings as worn by Celine Dion, would definitely ensure that Lily delivers head to toe glamour in this ensemble.

The London premiere of Tolkien is expected to take place on Monday April 29, 2019.

2019 Time 100 Gala Red Carpet Wish List

Well tomorrow is the annual Time 100 Gala which celebrated the people who have made the magazines list of 100 Most Influential People list. The guest list is always fabulous and spans everyone from Hollywood to activists to sports to innovators. It is a wide ranging event. This years Time 100 list is probably the most female packed one yet, and heavily with females who have amazing red carpet style. Since the event is tomorrow and I was up until 5:00am last night editing the three final Met Gala wishes I decided I was just going to put out a gallery of wishes for this red carpet, mostly because there are so many people on the list I want to see deliver really chic red carpet moments.

The 2019 Time 100 Gala will take place in New York City tomorrow Tuesday April 23, 2019.

2019 Met Gala Red Carpet Wish List Part 18

I cannot believe we are here. Two weeks from this years Met Gala and my final set of wishes for this years red carpet. At the end of this list I will have picked 106 wishes for stars to rock on this years Met Gala red carpet and hopefully left all of my readers a little more informed on what ‘Camp’ style is. I had my own idea of what ‘Camp’ is when I picked all of the looks for this years wishes, but then when I started the journey of actually writing these lists I started reading “Notes on ‘Camp'” by Susan Sontag since it is what Costume Institute curator in charge Andrew Bolton used as the basis of the exhibit that became the ‘Camp: Notes on Fashion’ theme of this years gala. Sontag says, “The whole point of Camp is to dethrone the serious. Camp is playful, anti-serious. More precisely, Camp involves a new, more complex relation to “the serious.” One can be serious about the frivolous, frivolous about the serious.” So I definitely want to see everyone take risks. Camila Mendes’ Riverdale co-stars Lili Reinhart and Cole Sprouse made their Met Gala debut last year, and this year I am hoping that Camila will get her turn on the red carpet for fashions biggest night. She has been heavily embraced by Prabal Gurung in the half year and since Prabal usually has quite the crew on the Met Gala red carpet I am hoping that he will give Camila her first Met Gala moment in a few weeks. When it comes to Prabal on the Met Gala red carpet he doesn’t usually send a girl up those famous Met steps wearing an off the runway gown. They are always custom gowns, or at least customized versions of runway looks. I figure that isn’t going to change, but if it does I definitely think that Camila would look oh so beautiful wearing this black, pink, and purple Prabal Gurung Fall 2019 RTW ‘Herrat’ embroidered tulle ballgown which is embellished with vibrant imagery throughout and features a deep V-neck and an A-line silhouette. This gown could be worn as presented and be absolutely beautiful, but it could also be the starting point for a custom gown that adds a dramatic train and feathers to really bring the ‘Camp’ aesthetic to this very pretty gown. I would style the gown, in whichever version, with a sleek updo, defined eyes, antique rose pink lips, a blush pink Judith Leiber Couture crystal embellished box clutch, a pair of simple black Jimmy Choo ‘Misty’ sandals, and a selection of Brumani jewels including a pair of blush pink amethyst, rose quartz, and diamond teardrop earrings and a matching cocktail ring to definitely make this an absolutely amazing moment for Camila to deliver for her Met Gala debut. At one point Anna Wintour had vowed that no Kardashian or Real Housewife of any city would be invited to the Met Gala. That started to change in 2013 when Kim Kardashian was knocked up by Kanye and Anna allowed the couple to attend that years punk themed gala. It was reported by Radar Online (a totally reliable source NOT!) that while Anna had warmed to Kim that the rest of the Kardashians and Real Housewives were still a no go. “Anna would never, ever allow a group of Real Housewives to rub shoulders with fashion’s elite,” a source told Radar Online. Well obviously since then Anna has warmed much more to the Kardashian Klan inviting Kris, Kendall, and Kylie to the event in years past. Well I am hoping this year is the year that Anna finally warms to the idea of inviting a Real Housewife. Erika Jayne is definitely in a class above a lot of the other ladies of the Real Housewives franchises. She brings high fashion to her life every day. She has been embraced by magazines including L’Official, Harper’s Bazaar, and CR Fashion Book and has even appeared on Vogue.com in digital content and so I am hoping that she is allowed to attend this years Met Gala, because she definitely knows ‘Camp.’ She wears a lot of Moschino and Jeremy Scott so when I was thinking of perfect guests for the eccentric designer to bring to this years Met Gala Erika was at the top of my list. It might be a long shot, but I am hopeful. So I messaged Evita and said I needed something major and gave her a general idea of what I wanted and she delivered. Erika Jayne’s custom Moschino gown is inspired by the brands Fall 2019 RTW and Spring 2015 RTW collections. The ‘Sparkly Pro Clean’ printed halter gown embellished with rock crystals and the sequin stars hails from the Fall 2019 RTW collection and the white organza ruffled train hails from the Spring 2015 RTW collection. All put together this gives that kitschy drama that Moschino is known for and I definitely think that Erika can serve the look up smokin’ hot. When Erika serves a look she commits. I want to see her really go for it adding a sleek ‘I Dream of Jeannie’ high ponytail, winged eyes, bright pink lips, long white gloves, a pair of silver, florescent yellow, and florescent pink Christian Louboutin ‘Lady Bug’ peep toe pumps, and a selection of Bayco ‘Magnificent’ collection diamond and sapphire jewels would definitely ensure that Erika owns the Met Gala red carpet. When Henry Golding first popped onto the fashion radar last year during the promo tour for Crazy Rich Asians wearing colored and textured Tom Ford tuxedos I had high expectations for what he would wear over the course of awards season. Unfortunately he ended up going the very classic black and white route most of awards season. I am PRAYING that if Anna Wintour invites him to this years Met Gala, which would be his first, that he embraces bold style. I think that this lilac BOSS Fall 2019 Menswear tuxedo is perfect for Henry to wear for this years Met as it is cut in the classic shape of a peak lapel tuxedo, but the color, and the differing fabrics of the collar, cuff, pocket line, and pants strip all add to the ‘Camp’ aesthetic of this look. Now I would add a classic white tuxedo shirt, black bow tie, and a pair of simple black patent leather BOSS oxfords to make sure this look is still authentic to Henry’s style while still keeping with the theme. Letitia Wright gave me underwhelming looks all awards season and I am hoping that if she attends this years Met Gala that she will deliver something absolutely amazing. She loves herself a pants look on the red carpet so she is one of the few ladies whom I shunned a gown or cocktail dress in favor of red carpet lady pants for. I LOVE this Peter Pilotto Fall 2019 RTW one sleeved jumpsuit which features a metallic fiber orange and royal blue draped bodice with a single puffy sleeve and dark red satin fitted trousers and I definitely think that it fits the ‘Camp’ theme, but also stays true to Letitia’s personal style. Her signature short hair, defined eyes, nude lips, a pair of gold metallic lizard print Jimmy Choo ‘Love’ pointed toe pumps, and Irene Neuwirth fire opal and diamond chandelier earrings would add the perfect finishing to this look.My final wish for this years Met Gala is for another newbie, Naomi Scott. She will be getting ready to kick off the promo tour for the much anticipated live action Aladdin and with the major Valentino moments she has been rocking lately I would imagine that if Naomi receives an invitation to this years gala that she will be part of the Valentino crew. I definite am obsessed with this royal blue Valentino Spring 2019 RTW ball gown which features ginormous sleeves, a scoop neckline, lots of ruffles, and a tiered ball skirt and I am hoping that Naomi is brave enough to take a risk and bring this gown to life on the Met Gala red carpet. Now honestly Naomi has a very petite frame so I wonder if there is too much volume here for her, but I think that she could power through it and make it seem effortless. I would make this look perfect for a Met Gala debut styling it with a sleek updo, navy smokey eyes, dark red lips, a pair of royal blue Tamara Mellon ‘Deco’ platform sandals, and a Bulgari High Jewelry ‘Serpenti’ diamond collar necklace with sapphire and emerald details.

I want to leave you with just one more quote from “Notes on ‘Camp'” to think about when we ultimately judge the looks that come down the Met Gala red carpet: “The ultimate Camp statement: it’s good because it’s awful . . . Of course, one can’t always say that. Only under certain conditions.”

The 2019 Met Gala will take place on the first Monday in May: May 6, 2019.

2019 Met Gala Red Carpet Wish List Part 17

In the openings to most of my Met Gala wishes so far I have tried to go through Susan Sontag’s “Notes on ‘Camp'” and help define for you what exactly ‘Camp’ is. Basically it is ” the sensibility of failed seriousness, of the theatricalization of experience. Camp refuses both the harmonies of traditional seriousness, and the risks of fully identifying with extreme states of feeling.” It is neither here nor there, not good or bad, pretty or ugly. It is whatever you want it to be. I think that idea is going to make it hard to actually judge how well stars stick to this years theme, since under the ‘Camp’ aesthetic anything goes. I think people, myself included are expecting everyone to wear the biggest gowns possible and things covered in sequins, crystals, and feathers. I am really interested in seeing what everyone will wear for this years red carpet. We are just two weeks from this red carpet and with each passing day I am getting more and more excited!Cardi B made her Met Gala debut last year giving me Madonna (not the “Like A Virgin” one the actual virgin” with child realness in custom Moschino as the guest of Jeremy Scott. For this years red carpet I am picking a custom Mugler gown. In an article in the LA Times Cardi’s stylist was profiled for the major vintage Thierry Mugler ‘Venus on a Half Shell’ gown that he put her in for the Grammy Awards it was said “However, those wanting to see the Venus dress up close are out of luck because the ensemble won’t be part of the upcoming exhibition. It will make an appearance elsewhere, but Carter was mum on those details.” As soon as I read those words I knew that Cardi’s Grammy’s gown was bound for the Met Gala. So, even before I confirmed it, I went down a rabbit hole of creating a major custom Mugler moment for Cardi to rep the current creative director on this years Met Gala red carpet. I took inspiration from a vintage Mugler bustier shaped like a butterfly, but mixed it with a watercolor brushstroke print that current Mugler creative director Casey Cadwallader used in his debut runway show, but covering the print with iridescent sequins, creating this fitted gown with a dramatically sexy side split. Now on it’s own this gown is great, but it doesn’t have that drama that we typically associate with the Met Gala carpet built in. So I want to up the game with a matching custom hat inspired by vintage Mugler hats in the same sequined covered print as the gown and a pair of matching print opera length gloves. A pair of metallic gold leather Christian Louboutin ‘Choca’ strappy platform sandals, smokey eyes, sleek hair, orange lips, and statement Fernando Jorge ‘Disco’ 18k gold and diamond drop earrings would definitely make this look absolutely amazing for Cardi to rock on this years Met Gala red carpet, definitely could make her a major contender for Best Dressed (she should be defending her title since she was my Best Dressed at last years Met Gala.)Dua Lipa hasn’t been to a Met Gala yet, but I would imagine on the heels of her Best New Artist and Best Dance Recording wins at this years Grammy Awards and the fact she has been embraced by fashion brands like Giambattista Valli, Versace, Armani, Christopher Kane, and Saint Laurent already that she is definitely a major contender to get a coveted invitation to the biggest night in fashion for sure. Honestly I should have made the obvious choice picking a big frothy Giambattista Valli Couture tulle gown for Dua since she LOVES them, but I wanted to make a bit of an unexpected choice for her to wear for her first Met Gala. Now initially when I picked this hot pink satin Christopher Kane Fall 2019 RTW sleeveless mini dress which features cutout sides and an embellished buckle at the center I was going to let Dua be one of the rebels of the night wearing a short dress instead of a gown. But literally as I sit here at 2:39am writing this post (since they are all scheduled) I want to see Dua’s stylist Lorenzo Posocco work with Christopher Kane to turn this mini dress into a tiered gown. Now typically I would have had my girl Evita edit this as a custom gown, but when I change my mind this late in the game there just wasn’t time to create that custom gown. I think somewhere between four and six flounced tiers would be absolutely amazing for this look. Now I don’t want to see the gown have a train just keeping a tiered column silhouette with an open back (the mini dress has a closed back aside from the side cutouts. Finish the look with her signature sleek blunt center parted bob, grey glitter smokey eyes, dark rose pink lips, an iridescent PVC and silver glittered leather Christian Louboutin ‘Marie Jane’ spike studded bucket bag, a pair of sunset colored Christian Louboutin ‘Pigalle Follies Strass’ degrade crystal embellished pointed toe pumps, and statement Chopard Red Carpet Collection black opal and multicolor sapphire drop earrings to ensure that Dua owns her Met Gala debut.Broadway stars definitely get invited to the Met Gala. Anna Wintour is a huge lover of theater and so some of the stars who will most likely get nominated for a Tony Award are invited to attend the Met Gala, both the Hollywood a-list (like Kerry Washington) and the Broadway a-list. Eva Noblezada definitely falls into the latter category. She just opened Hadestown which from what I have heard is going to make some major waves this year. She made her rise to theater stardom from Charlotte, North Carolina, which is where I am based, and since she is just 3 years younger than I am I feel this sort of connection to her. I feel like this could be her year to be a guest at the Met Gala and I want her to definitely rock a look that lives up to both the Met expectations in general, but also this years ‘Camp’ theme. Pamella Roland isn’t typically a brand that we see on the Met Gala red carpet, but I definitely think that this lilac feather embroidered tulle high low ballgown which features a high neckline and a dramatic train from the Pamella Roland Fall 2019 RTW collection is PERFECT for a rising Broadway star like Eva to bring to life on this red carpet. It has the elements of drama and ‘Camp’ that is perfect for a red carpet like this. I definitely think that Eva has the potential to really bring this gown to life for this red carpet. (Also Eva if you read this, like it, and get nominated for a Tony and want to work with a Charlotte based stylist hit me up!) I would finish this look with a sleek updo, smokey eyes, soft pink lips, silver Jimmy Choo ‘Shiloh’ iridescent crystal embellished sandals, and a pair of Kallati diamond wreath earrings to make this a major moment.Katy Perry is on this years gala host committee and I definitely have high expectations for her after the major wing moment she had last year in Atelier Versace. I went for something a lot simpler for this years red carpet, but still really dramatic, with this black Armani Prive Fall 2018 Couture strapless ballgown which features a velvet bustier, hot pink netting ruffle on the waist, and a full ostrich feather covered ball skirt. Now Katy loves color and is definitely someone who understands what ‘Camp’ is and so this gown might be too simple for her to rock on this red carpet, but I definitely think that it fits her style and would be amazing. I would go very kitschy with the styling with a large 60’s bouffant flip style blonde wig, thick cat eye winged eye liner, pink lips matching that waist detail, a pair of black Saint Laurent strappy ankle tie tassel detail pointed toe pumps, black crystal embellished opera length gloves, and de Grisogono pink tourmaline and diamond tassel earrings to make sure this is perfect for a Met Gala red carpet look, especially given the ‘Camp’ theme.Like Cardi, Troye Sivan also made his Met Gala debut last year wearing a custom red Valentino tuxedo paired with a sheer mesh t-shirt. I thought it was a perfect look for the young South African pop star. I definitely think that he should be invited back this year given the ‘Camp’ theme. I think he has it in him to really deliver a look. I decided to take a risk for Troy picking this Moschino Fall 2019 Menswear black tailcoat tuxedo with a red bow cummerbund worn over the jacket paired with bondage inspired buckled skinny pants. It is definitely more of a tough take on rock and roll glam than we are used to seeing from Troye, but I definitely believe he could easily sell it to me. I would swap the colored shirt that the tuxedo was paired with on the runway for a simple white tuxedo shirt and the clunky boots for a pair of black Christian Louboutin ‘Roadie Orlato’ metallic fiber chelsea boots to make this look more of what we come to expect form Troye, but with that Moschino flare.

The 2019 Met Gala will take place on the first Monday in May: May 6, 2019.

2019 Met Gala Red Carpet Wish List Part 16

We have made it to my final day of 2019 Met Gala wishes everyone! I have 18 more individual wishes left, spread out over 3 different posts. As I reflect on the last several set of wishes for this years Met Gala one thing reigns supreme to me: we have to be very open minded with this years theme. I think that with such specific themes (including China, Tech, and Catholic imagery) recently that the wide range of interpretation of ‘Camp’ is really going to be interesting. I cannot wait to see what stars, stylists, and designers bring to life in regards to this years theme. In the article “Notes on ‘Camp'” by Susan Sontag, which lies at the forefront of this years inspiration, she says “Camp taste turns its back on the good-bad axis of ordinary aesthetic judgment. Camp doesn’t reverse things. It doesn’t argue that the good is bad, or the bad is good. What it does is to offer for art (and life) a different — a supplementary — set of standards.” That right there definitely says things that are normatively ‘ugly’ can be considered perfect and things that are normatively ‘pretty’ can be completely wrong. Wrong isn’t the right word though, because ‘Camp’ is completely about leaving behind the binary and examining things from the viewpoint of multiple lenses. Whatever stars decide to bring to this years red carpet I know that we are in store for quite the spectacle. Chloe Grace Moretz confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter earlier this month that she was indeed wearing Louis Vuitton to this years Met Gala. I had actually had another gown from the ADEAM Fall 2019 RTW collection runway that I was obsessed with for Chloe, but as I was literally writing the post I realized it wasn’t a 100% right fit for her to wear on this red carpet so I scrapped the idea, and later that very same day THR confirmed that she would wear Louis Vuitton. “I just trust Nicolas [Ghesquière] so much. I think he’s an incredible designer and to be a part of such a magnificent brand, I really wanted to find something that felt … empowering and progressive and forward-thinking, almost. And that’s really something that Nicolas does. He creates the perfect silhouette that encompasses all those emotions into one.” is what Chloe told THR about her Met Gala gown. So I messaged my photo editor Evita (who was pretty much done with Met edits for me at this point) and basically begged her to throw one more Louis Vuitton gown together, and she obliged. I knew that I wanted to use the hand-drawn tulip print that was featured in the Louis Vuitton Pre-Fall 2019 collection for this look. It is chic and feminine, but also bold and impactful which I think is perfect with this years theme. We talked back and forth, rather quickly, and decided a sleek style silhouette wise with the halter neck, column shape, and sweeping train would be perfect. Of course this is the Met Gala so we decided to color block fuchsia sequins between the print built into blush sequins. We finished using the metal paillettes from the Louis Vuitton Spring 2019 RTW collection to embellish the neck. It made for an absolutely chic moment and I definitely think that styled perfectly for this years theme with a sleek updo, defined eyes, glossy nude lips, a pair of silver Louis Vuitton ‘Silhouette’ sandals, and a selection of Louis Vuitton Haute Jewelry including diamond and ruby short drop earrings and a statement diamond and ruby monogrammed cuff bracelet. It has been a little while since we have seen a major Jason Wu moment on the Met Gala red carpet. He has kind of switched out his business over the last year splitting his labels to have a formal line, titled Jason Wu Collection, and an informal line, just Jason Wu, and I hope that this year he makes a return to this red carpet. Now given this years theme I thought about digging into Jason’s early archives because there are definitely some major ‘Camp’ moments that could come out of them, but given his refocusing of his brand I thought it only appropriate to grab something recent instead. Now his Jason Wu Collection Fall 2019 RTW collection isn’t exactly the most ‘Camp’ in the entire world, but that doesn’t mean that a dramatic gown like this lipstick red radzmir high-shine satin strapless tiered evening gown which features a draped floral accent at its fitted waist and a long dramatic train doesn’t deserve a major moment on the Met Gala red carpet. I decided to entrust this gown to the always beautiful Emmy Rossum. She does feminine glamour incredibly well and knows how to infuse the theme into looks that don’t necessarily fit into it on paper. That is what I think she would do with this look adding a funky rockabilly inspired updo, smokey eyes, bold red lips, a pair of red satin Gianvito Rossi ‘Ginger’ feather embellished sandals, and some major Van Cleef & Arpels jewels including a modern diamond and ruby collar necklace and a vintage art deco bracelet. Kerry Washington is looking at a possible Tony Award nomination for her performance in the play American Son and is one of this years gala committee members and I am really hoping that she brings her absolute a-game to this red carpet. I won’t lie while I do love Kerry and her style typically lately she hasn’t excited me at all and her track record for Met Gala gowns isn’t great either. I want to see her shut this red carpet down this year, so I turned to a king of ruffles and drama: Giambattista Valli. Now sure there were plenty of major moments worthy of this red carpet in the latest couture collection from the French designer, but I really wanted to bring this ombre mint one shoulder ruffled gown from the Giambattista Valli Fall 2014 Couture collection out of the archive and finally give it a red carpet moment. Now to be honest it was one of countless gowns I optioned for Elle Fanning (who literally should be a chair of this theme,) but since I really loved the Richard Quinn gown I picked for her I went shopping for another perfect wearer to bring this gown to life on the Met Gala red carpet. I thought of Kerry because I know she can deliver drama like this and not get swallowed up. I want to see her bring this gown to life because I know that it would reignite my fire for her style. Pair it with a sleek updo, smokey eyes, dark red glossy lips, silver Charlotte Olympia metallic leather Chrysler building inspired crystal embellished peep toe platform sandals, and Tiffany & Co. Blue Book jewels including a pair of major aquamarine and diamond art deco stud earrings and an intricate diamond and aquamarine scroll cuff bracelet and I know that Kerry will do just that.Lily Collins also definitely is made for this years theme. She always brings major theme related moments to the Met Gala red carpet and I am sure that this year will be no different. I want to see her pay tribute to not only the theme, but also the late Karl Lagerfeld wearing this baby pink Chanel Spring 2019 Couture embroidered lace tea length gown which features short voluminous sleeves and a tiered ball skirt. This dress is the epitome of feminine drama. It definitely will take someone with the right presence to make this look work without it overwhelming them and I think that the effortless elegance that Lily typically brings to her looks would be perfect for breathing life into this gown. Now the dress is amazing, but I want to definitely infuse some more of the ‘Camp’ aesthetic of more is more to this look with the styling adding a sleek center parted low bun, defined eyes, red lips, a pair of fuchsia satin Roger Vivider ‘Viv Fireflower’ hot pink flower and gold bead embellished pointed toe pumps, and a bit of kitsch via Chopard Red Carpet Collection pink sapphire and tourmaline flamingo shaped teardrop earrings to definitely make this look perfect for both Lily’s sense of style and this years ‘Camp’ theme. Michelle Monaghan is usually a very underrated star on the Met Gala red carpet. Her past Met Gala red carpet moments have been absolutely amazing and I definitely think that she could shut the red carpet down with this years ‘Camp’ theme. She has typically been the guest of more underrated designers like Paco Rabanne and Rosie Assoulin, so to make her one of the heavy hitters on the Met Gala red carpet this year I decided to pick a higher profile label for her. I have loved what Wes Gordon has done as the creative director at Carolina Herrera sense the labels namesake founder stepped down from designing the collections. Last year Wes made the ‘Camp’-iest of looks for Lena Waite to wear with a LGBTQ+ pride flag cape for her to wear on the Catholic themed red carpet. It was one of the most talked about looks of the night, and I am definitely hoping that he comes up with another genius look for this years red carpet. Now the look I want to see Michelle wear is more of a more classically feminine look, but in a bold color. I loved this hot pink Carolina Herrera Fall 2019 RTW layered pleated tulle gown which features a crew neck, caped back, and a frothy ball skirt the moment I saw it come down the runway. I am honestly surprised it wasn’t snatched up for Oscar night. I would however want to see Michelle’s stylist Karla Welch ask Wes to add more of a dramatic train to this gown for this red carpet since a major train is definitely needed to create iconic images going up those famous Met Museum front steps. A chic braided updo, thick defined eyes, soft pink lips, a pink Judith Leiber Couture ‘Gumball Machine’ crystal minaudiere, pink and red glitter Sophia Webster ‘Daria’ PVC paneled pointed toe pumps, and a pair of Irene Neuwirth pink tourmaline, aquamarine, and pearl drop earrings would definitely make this the perfect balance of Michelle’s style, the femininity of Carolina Herrera, and the extra of the ‘Camp’ theme. Rachel Weisz brought ‘Camp’ to the Oscars red carpet earlier this year, in her own way, when she decided to wear red latex Givenchy Couture. I honestly loved this gown on the runway, but I was shocked that someone (especially Rachel) decided to rock it on the Oscars red carpet. That is definitely what I think that Susan Sontag would have labeled a ‘Camp’ moment on the red carpet. So because of that I decided that I wanted to put Rachel in a wish for this years Met Gala. Rachel has only been to the Met Gala a small handful of times in the past. Her first was in 2009 when she was a guest of Vera Wang, then in 2010 she was the guest of Oscar de la Renta, and the last time she was at a Met Gala was back in 2015 when she wore Chanel Couture. I want to see Rachel really nail this years theme, but in her own brand of glamour. Richard Quinn is one of the young labels who I think really fits the ‘Camp’ aesthetic of this years theme, and I would love to see him dress more than one star for fashions biggest night. I fell in love with this red 3D embellished rose pattern strapless sweetheart neckline column gown with an attached black tulle bustle train the moment I saw it. The Richard Quinn Fall 2019 RTW collection would be perfect for this red carpet in general, but I definitely think that Rachel would be able to sell this gown to me on this red carpet. Now while she did rock the latex for the Oscars I would say that she should leave the black latex bodysuit that the gown was paired with on the runway at home as the gown and train bring enough drama to this look. Finishing the ensemble with a romantic updo, defined eyes, red lips, a red velvet Judith Leiber Couture ‘Coffered’ crystal embellished box clutch, a pair of red satin Gianvito Rossi ‘Tabasco’ strappy sandals, and a selection of vintage Cartier diamond ruby jewels once owned by Elizabeth Taylor would definitely ensure that Rachel delivers all the elements of ‘Camp’ in an ever so glamorous package.

The 2019 Met Gala will take place on the first Monday in May: May 6, 2019.
