We are now just less than a week away from the 2019 Emmy Awards. Between the nominees and the presenters that keep getting announced I am really excited to see what this years red carpet will bring. I want to believe that this years Emmy’s red carpet will bring some major moments to the red carpet. Now I set my expectations for the Venice and Toronto Film Festivals super high and was disappointed, majorly. So I am hoping that I am not setting myself up for even more disappointment setting the bar for glamour to my usual high standards for the 2019 Emmy Awards.
Angela Bassett knows how to deliver DRAMA on the red carpet and she showcased that over the course of awards season earlier this year. Now you would think that I would have picked another WOW moment for her with lots of structured volume, which has been her red carpet MO lately, but instead with this chartreuse Ailette Spring 2020 RTW asymmetrical jersey gown which features long sleeves and a high split. I feel that while this isn’t exactly what we are used to seeing Angela deliver on the red carpet lately that this look would still make this a perfect look for this years Emmy Awards, especially since she is just presenting. A sleek high bun updo, defined eyes, dark antique rose pink lips, a silver Jimmy Choo ‘Leonis’ metallic nappa leather clutch with a crystal brooch embellishment, a pair of silver metallic leather Aquazzura ‘Zana’ slingback pointed toe sandals, and a suite of dazzling Amwaj white diamond jewels including drop earrings, a collar necklace, and a matching cocktail ring.
Janet Mock is definitely one to keep our eyes on. The POSE star might not be nominated, or an announced presenter at this point, but I definitely am expecting her to serve a look on this red carpet. She made the rounds during New York Fashion Week (in addition to being front row at the Valentino Couture show back in July) and I am sure she was shopping with her stylist Jason Bolden for the perfect Emmy’s gown. Now the Oscar de la Renta Spring 2020 show was not one of the presentations that Janet was seated front row at, but when I thought about her wearing this black cutout silk taffeta gown which features a halter neckline, dramatic bow detail, an a-line skirt, and a ruffled high-low hemline I was sold on the idea. Now typically I wouldn’t go for a high-low gown for the Emmy’s, but for a guest of a show I think it would be a fun moment. Styling the look with a sleek updo, smokey eyes, dark red lips, a pair of black Giuseppe Zanotti ‘Fleur’ sandals with a silver crystal embellished rose, and Kallati jewels including a pair of simple white diamond twist drop earrings and a selection of white diamond band rings would definitely make this a major WOW moment on the Emmy Awards red carpet.
I feel like heading into this years Emmy Awards I do believe that Maisie Williams is the front runner to take home the Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series for what I have heard is her epic performance in the final season of Game of Thrones. This means that I need Maisie to deliver a really major moment on this red carpet. I decided to create a custom Coach gown for Maisie, since she is a friend and face of the brand, to deliver on this red carpet. I want to see Stuart Vevers create this vibrant purple a-line glittered tulle gown which features cutout shoulders, thin beaded straps, flutter cap sleeves, a v-neckline, beaded lace panels on the waist, and beaded applique panels on the skirt. This dress embraces the westward ho! americana point of view that Vevers has steered Coach into since taking over the label about six years ago. I think that this chic moment is definitely something that Maisie would be drawn to. She has been loving colored hair so I would love to see her have soft lavender hair to match this dress styled in a loose updo. Finishing the look with defined winged eyes, soft pink lips, a pair of purple Prada open toe suede chunky heel sandals, and FV Fine Jewellery tanzanite and rubelite cluster drop earrings would definitely make this a real wow moment for Maisie’s potential first Emmy win.
Olivia Colman is a quirky soul and that translates to her wardrobe. I have to say that I am not typically a huge fan of Olivia’s style, but since her performance in Fleabag seems to be the one to beat in the Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series category at the 2019 Emmy Awards on Sunday I decided to include her in my regular written out wishes instead of just in my gallery round up wishes that will come the day before the red carpet. I do think that this salmon pink silk Rochas Resort 2020 gown which features a ruched dolman sleeve bodice, a beaded applique on the shoulder, and a gathered flared hem is something she would be drawn to. I think that this look is the mix of the feminine elegance and bohemian glamour to appeal to Olivia’s sense of style. Defined eyes, antique rose pink lips, a pair of blush satin Jimmy Choo ‘Romy’ crystal embellished pointed toe pumps, and antique 19th century white diamond pear shaped drop earrings from Fred Leighton would definitely make this a very Olivia look on the red carpet of the 2019 Emmy Awards.
Rounding out this list is the gorgeous Marvelous Mrs. Maisel herself Rachel Brosnahan. She is the defending champion in the Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series category at this years Emmy’s. I will say with the fact that Julia Louis-Dreyfus is nominated for her final Emmy for VEEP and Phoebe Waller-Bridge is seemingly the favorite for her performance in Fleabag. I am interested in seeing what Rachel will wear on this red carpet. She has become a Dior darling lately, but as with almost everyone who wears Dior lately the looks just fall flat to me. I decided instead to turn to the same label that dressed Rachel earlier this year for the Golden Globe Awards earlier this year, Prada, to have the perfect gown for her to wear for this Sunday nights red carpet. I envisioned this custom dark green Prada gown which features an asymmetric bodice, sequin detail from the shoulder down into the bodice and all the way down to the hem, a flowing a-line skirt, and a chic train to add a bit of drama based on a vintage Prada dress I found on The Real Real. This gown basically just took the sequin draping from that dress, which had a more casual air about it despite all the sequins (there was a crumpled tye-dye vibe about the fabric on that dress), and I definitely believe that making this a silk chiffon gown makes it a beautiful moment. A sleek side parted updo, defined eyes, dark red lips, a pair of simple black suede Prada ankle strap sandals, and dazzling Bulgari High Jewelry diamond & emerald chandelier earrings would definitely make sure that Rachel at least wins the red carpet Sunday.
The 2019 Emmy Awards will take place on Sunday September 22, 2019.
