Best Dressed of 2019

While this post has been backdated to December 2019 I didn’t actually edit and write by Best Dressed of 2019 list until we were more than halfway through with 2020. At the end of 2019 I was almost ready to hang up my hat and give up blogging. I was feeling overwhelmed trying to consistently bring content to my followers while balancing my full time job and trying to maintain a personal life. I was also feeling overwhelmed trying to figure out how to cover all of the events in an accelerated awards season. So I let things I always did, and usually enjoy doing, fall to the wayside. Well as I was looking back at Best Dressed of the Year lists for previous years as reference when talking about other wishes I knew I needed to back track and write a Best Dressed of 2019 list. Overall the year was a great year in terms of fashion. It was a slow burn at the start for the most part. Awards season was super dull. This is only the second time in nine years that I have a Best Dressed of the Year list that doesn’t have a single look from awards season. But when it came down to it the looks I fell in love with the most in 2019 came mostly from movie premieres and the Cannes Film Festival. Let’s go through my 10 favorite looks from last year. 1) Angelina Jolie in custom Ralph & Russo Couture at the London premiere of Maleficent: Mistress of Evil:  Angelina makes her first Best Dressed of the Year list appearance since 2013. Funny thing? The last appearance she made was also thanks to a custom Ralph & Russo Couture look. Angie is a regal queen and I always look forward to seeing what she will bring to the red carpet. When I saw her step onto the red carpet at the premiere of Maleficent: Mistress of Evil in London wearing this magical pale grey Ralph & Russo Couture intricately beaded cape gown my heart soared. This is always what I want Angelina to look like on the red carpet. It was regal perfection from head to toe. This look immediately made me think of a warrior goddess and Angie just wafted up this red carpet with real presence. So when I was putting this list together nothing gave me the same wow moment so of course it tops my Best of 2019 list. 2) Sarah Paulson in custom Prada at the London premiere of GLASS: This was the first look last year I remember loving. This pink Prada gown with green hand painted flames on the hem inspired by brands Spring 2012 RTW collection and was reissued by Miuccia for the Fall 2018 Menswear collection. This look is fun and statement making. It was a risk. That is one of the things I love most about Sarah. She isn’t afraid to take risks. Honestly I can’t believe that this is the first time that Sarah has made one of my Best Dressed of the Year lists. I have always been a fan of her style, but everything about this look from the jade Irene Neuwirth tassel earrings to the emerald marbled acrylic Edie Parker clutch this look made this a major pop art inspired glamour moment.

3) Naomi Scott in custom Burberry at the London premiere of Aladdin: A movie star was born on the red carpet at the London premiere of Aladdin. When I saw Naomi Scott wearing this pale sky blue strapless custom Burberry column gown which features an intricately beaded satin sweetheart neckline bustier bodice, a draped pants waist detail, and a column skirt my jaw dropped. It was the first custom gown from the Riccardo Tisci era of the British fashion house I fell in love with, and there hasn’t been any since. The look is definitely not an easy look to pull off, but Naomi brought the look to like with sleek effortless ease.

4) Zendaya in custom Vera Wang at the Emmy Awards: For the most of the year it was rumored that Zendaya was going to be cast as Ariel in the new Disney live action adaptation of The Little Mermaid. In August it was announced that Halle Bailey was cast in the role. Well on the red carpet at the Emmy Awards weeks later Zendaya showed Disney just how right she could have been for the role. (I want to be clear I am very excited to see just how fantastic Halle does.) This emerald green custom Vera Wang one shoulder gown which features an exposed sheer paneled bustier, draped silk charmuse, a thigh high split, and matching satin Brian Atwood pumps was phenomenal and Zendaya rocked it with effortless sex appeal. The flowing red waves and Cartier jewels finished this look perfection. 5) Katy Perry in Carolina Herrera Spring 2020 RTW at the David Lynch Foundation ‘Silence The Violence’ Benefit: Everyone knows I love quirky, dramatic takes on glamour so it should come as no surprise that I LOVED seeing Katy Perry wearing this blush pink satin Carolina Herrera Spring 2020 RTW strapless ballgown overlaid with black polka dotted white tulle and features a dramatic side ruffle and a bow detailed ribbon waist. This gown isn’t something I think I would have even thought of as an option for Katy as I was looking at the runway looks, but I am glad that her stylist Samantha Burkhart did. The sleek retro curled bob and the pearl tiara from Simone Rocha all made this an absolutely major moment.

6) Tracee Ellis Ross in Marc Jacobs Spring 2019 RTW and Versace at Diana Ross’s 75th Birthday: Diana Ross turned 75 this year and for her birthday celebration her fashionista daughter Tracee Ellis Ross paid tribute to her mothers iconic style. Tracee posted her outfit on Instagram which consisted of a coral Marc Jacobs Spring 2020 RTW feathered coat paired with a peachy pink Versace Spring 2020 RTW crystal embellished cocktail dress and sunset pink to orange crystal embellished Christian Louboutin pointed toe pumps. The sleek bowl style bob, defined eyes, lashes for days, and coral pink lips all added the perfect finishing touches to this look.

7) Elle Fanning in custom Christian Dior Couture at the Cannes Film Festival premiere of Once Upon A Time In Hollywood: When Elle Fanning was announced at a jury member of the 2019 Cannes Film Festival I was hoping that it was going to include many major moments. Many will be SHOCKED to see that I have included a look from Christian Dior by Maria Grazia Chiuri in a Best Dressed of the Year List. Honestly I am a little bit too, but Elle really did the thing when she stepped out on the red carpet at the festival premiere of Once Upon A Time In Hollywood wearing this new take on the iconic Christian Dior “New Look” it was amazing. It was unexpected and elegant. More casual than what I would have expected but it was amazing. The custom Steven Jones hat really made this look. It wouldn’t have been the same without it. 8) Elsa Hosk in custom Etro at the Cannes Film Festival premiere of A Hidden Life: The Cannes Film Festival is always an event that delivers major Best Dressed of the Year worthy fashion moments and 2019 was no other. I have never not included looks from the film festival in my Best Dressed of the Year List and that didn’t change this year. Etro got a new VIP director this year and we saw all kinds of looks from the label on the red carpets. The most successful was the rainbow sherbet color blocked gown with a dramatic train and a plunging neckline worn by Elsa Hosk for the premiere of A Hidden Life. It was an obvious homage to the Halston gown worn by Lauren Hutton to the 1975 Oscars. There was not denying that. To me a look that is such a literal homage is even more difficult to pull off because if you do not do it right then it just doesn’t work. Elsa balanced the bohemian vibes from Lauren with modern dramatic glamour perfectly which is why she earned a spot on this list.

9) Cardi B in Chanel Fall 2019 RTW at the Chanel Spring 2020 RTW Presentation: There was a buzz in Paris because Cardi B was in the city ahead of the Chanel Spring 2020 RTW presentation. I remember hearing rumors that she was going to be invited to the show but nothing was confirmed. Well when she stepped onto the set for the photographers wearing a full Chanel Fall 2019 RTW ensemble which featured a black and white houndstooth print floor length trench coat, a winter white and black window pain plaid tweed jumpsuit, matching wide brimmed hat, and a black leather quilted bag Cardi showed us that she really is a fashion force to be reckoned with. I’ve never included a front row ensemble in a Best Dressed of the Year list, but this is such a a major fashion moment I couldn’t not include it.

10) Elle Fanning in custom Gucci at the Cannes Film Festival Opening Ceremony: Rounding out this list is another look from Elle Fanning’s tenure as a jury member at the Cannes Film Festival. I knew when it was first announced that she would be on the jury that she would give us some major fashion moments, and she did not disappoint. She opened the festival giving us 1940’s femme fatale glamour wearing this custom peachy cream silk charmuse caped gown which features a plunging neckline, purple floral embroidery, and a dramatic cape. I think a man named Erik Anderson on Twitter said it best: “When you’ve just murdered your husband that morning but still have to murder the red carpet later.” This look was absolute perfection from head to toe. All glamour all the time.

2020 AFI Awards Red Carpet Wish List Part 3

So this is my final set of wishes for the 2020 AFI Awards. As I have said this is  one of the most casual red carpets of awards season. Stars themselves are not the honorees, but their films and television projects themselves. That means that the stars who show up are the ones supporting their films/TV projects or the ones hardcore campaigning for an Oscar nomination. The crop of honorees this year excite me. The casts of these films, TV shows, and limited series are top notch. If even just a small handful off the stars in my wishes for this red carpet show up I think it will be called a success. Today’s wishes features a lot of faces whom I either love or loathe on the red carpet and I am praying to the gods of fashion that if they show up on this red carpet they show out wearing the best in high fashion luncheon wear. Now this is one of two awards season luncheons I cover, the other being the Academy Award Nominees Luncheon, and while both are at noon this red carpet definitely is the most casual. I think that each look featured below would definitely make sure that the wearer is serving the best casual moment they can for the red carpet. That is of course unless they ruin it with terrible styling and that can be the case with several of these ladies. Top notch runway fashion with top notch styling will be the key to these ladies nailing this red carpet.

The 2019 AFI Awards will take place on Friday January 3, 2019.

2020 AFI Awards Red Carpet Wish List Part 2

The AFI Awards are the most casual awards of the awards season calendar. As a luncheon event I would love to see everyone bring the high fashion drama and glamour even if the red carpet is at noon. That is why this set of wishes features everything from maxi dresses to flirty cocktail moments to sequins. There are a couple new faces in these wishes as well I am excited to see what the rising stars from Little Women and The Crown are going to bring to life on the red carpets over the course of awards season 2020. These looks are as varied as the people whom are featured on this set of wishes. If the fact that the projects being honored by the American Film Institute had be adding 33 people to my wishes for this red carpet has anything to say about it I imagine that we will have the most amazing awards season yet!

The 2019 AFI Awards will take place on Friday January 3, 2019.

2020 AFI Awards Red Carpet Wish List Part 1

Well just because yesterday I concluded my last wish list for a red carpet in 2019 doesn’t mean I am going to slow down. Awards season 2020 was thrown for a loop when the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences moved the date of the Oscars forward from its usual perch at the end of February and moved to the beginning of February. That means that starting from the turn of the new year to February 9, 2020 we are going to see a marathon of glamour. My first set of wishes for the 2020 Awards Season is for cast members of the films and television programs that are being honored at the AFI Awards. Now this event is a more casual luncheon so I definitely wanted to reflect that in my wishes. I will have multiple sets of wishes for this red carpet, but when I pulled photos of all the cast members of the films and television programs which are being honored and the list was 33 people long I knew I didn’t have time to break down each look individually. I love this red carpet because stars are always on point, but still allowed to let their hair down a little before going from black tie affair to black tie affair. So check out my first 11 wishes for this red carpet. They range from legacy brands off the runway to recently presented Pre-Fall 2020 collections and even an off the rack look for Jamie Lee Curtis who tends to buy her red carpet looks.

The 2020 AFI Awards will take place on Friday January 3, 2019.

“Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker” LA Premiere Red Carpet Wish List

Tuesday in a galaxy of glamour far, far away called Los Angeles the cast of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker will descend upon a red carpet at the films big gala premiere. Star Wars universe premiere’s are no joke. Cast members always go big or go home so I am really excited to see what this premiere will bring. We have seen major looks from Gucci, Tom Ford, Monse, Chloe, and more from the cast at previous premieres and I am expecting a whole new slew of interstellar moments from them on this red carpet. It was Star Wars: The Last Jedi that catapulted Daisy Ridley into stardom and her looks on that promo tour cemented her as a fashionista. Since her first major red carpet I have been a huge fan of her style and I cannot wait to see what she brings to the red carpet at the LA premiere of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. For the LA premiere of the last installment in the franchise Daisy went a little on the kitschy side rocking a midnight blue sequined Monse star detail gown, so going with this black Christopher Kane Spring 2020 RTW galaxy print stain cut out midi gown which features a tailored silhouette, peplum skirt, crystal embellishment, and these awesome metal stud details at the neck, bust, and waist was not too far out of the realm of possibility. I have been waiting for months to make this wish. I mentally reserved this gown for Daisy the moment I saw it when it was first presented during London Fashion Week back in September. I prayed that it wouldn’t get snatched up by someone else before I could make the wish. Well now I have and I release the gown to Daisy’s stylist Samantha McMillan to make this moment happen. I think that this look gives modern Audrey Hepburn at a cocktail bar in the International Space Station vibes and I definitely think that Daisy has the perfect stature to really bring this look to life on the red carpet. I would go full glamour with the styling pairing this gown with a sleek side parted updo, defined eyes, bold red lips, a pair of black Christian Louboutin ‘Galativi’ mesh paneled pointed toe pumps, and glamorous vintage mid-century white diamond fan earrings from Beladora to really ensure that this look is perfect for a blockbuster red carpet movie premiere. I have been looking at options for Lupita Nyong’o to wear for awards events next year, and I don’t know why but I am having the hardest time picking looks for her for those events. But when it came to picking a look for the Oscar winning actress to wear on the red carpet at the LA premiere of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker I had no trouble picking this bright orange Atelier Versace Fall 2019 Couture strapless mini dress which features intricate gold embroidery and a bow peplum detail. Lupita LOVES color and that is what I most wanted to see her bring to life on this red carpet so as I was perusing the collections looking for the perfect look for her to bring to life on this red carpet it automatically clicked the moment I saw this dress. It is bold, sexy, and strong which are three things I think of when I think of Lupita. This look would most definitely make for a major moment on this red carpet especially if styled with a high ponytail of braids, defined eyes, dark red glossy lips, a pair of gold spike studded Christian Louboutin pointed toe pumps, and vintage Cartier 18k gold set citrine and white diamond earclips. Kelly Marie Tran was a break out star of the last Star Wars promo tour taking her newfound fame all the way to presenting at the Oscars. Now that being said Kelly isn’t exactly the most high fashion member of the ensemble, but I am hoping for a really chic and feminine moment from her on the red carpet at the premiere of Rise of Skywalker on Tuesday. I won’t lie I swapped out the gowns I picked for Kelly at the last minute because I realized that I had picked a strapless red gown and that is exactly what she wore for the LA premiere of the last installment in the Star Wars universe. So that was out and I went back to the drawing board. I turned back to the same designer that dressed Kelly for the 2018 Vanity Fair Oscar Party for the perfect gown for her to wear for the LA premiere of Skywalker with this teal blue Alberta Ferretti Limited Edition Fall 2019 halter gown which features a ruched tulle overlay, defined cummerbund style waist, tiered a-line construction, and intricate floral beading. This is definitely the most stereotypically feminine gown I’ve picked for this premiere and to be honest it is a little more of an awards season moment, but I think that for a big blockbuster movie premiere that Kelly should go big or go home. That is what she did last time and I am ready for it to happen again with this tour. This gown would perfectly styled for this red carpet with a sleek updo, teal and charcoal smokey eyes, soft pink lips, a pair of platinum-ice dusty glitter Jimmy Choo ‘Lilah’ strappy sandals, and statement Anabela Chan ‘Peacock Paraiba’ drop earrings made up of paraiba tourmalines, orange citrines, white diamonds, emeralds, pink sapphires, blue sapphires, and yellow citrines.Billie Lourd has recently become attached to Louis Vuitton and I am super disappointed. I hate when anyone gets locked into a designer’s grasp be it Chanel, Dior, Gucci, or Louis Vuitton. I definitely had an option for an LV gown I think Billie would look super chic wearing on the red carpet, but it was black and I really didn’t want to make this wish list filled with predominantly black looks. So instead I opted to pick this bold red draped jersey gown from the Prabal Gurung Pre-Fall 2020 collection which features a sleeveless draped design, plunging v-neckline, an asymmetrical hem, and a sexy split. This super glam moment is definitely something I can picture Billie bringing to life on the red carpet it fits her edgy yet glamorous sense of style. To this gown I would add Veronica Lake waves over one shoulder, defined eyes, red lips, a pair of red crystal embellished Gianvito Rossi ‘Glam’ satin sandals, and mismatched Messika Paris ‘Shards of Mirror’ white diamond cluster earrings to really make this the major moment I know Billie can deliver on the red carpet. Finishing out this list is the newest addition to the Star Wars universe Keri Russell. Now Keri is far from my favorite when it comes to her fashion. She is typically very boring, but I know that she has the potential to really dazzle. That being said I went with a very safe option for Keri with this black sequin Saint Laurent Spring 2020 RTW strapless jumpsuit which features a wide leather belted waist and POCKETS(!!!). This look combines Keri’s favored black comfort zone with one of her go to go to designers. Now I would want to see Keri rock the look without a black blazer, but I would bet that if she were to wear this gown that she would still wear one over this look. I would up the glamour of this look opting to style it with a sleek updo, smokey eyes, soft pink lips, a black watersnake leather Saint Laurent frame clutch, a pair of black Saint Laurent ‘Freja’ crystal trimmed satin pointed toe pumps, and two vintage diamond necklaces from Fred Leighton combined to make one dazzling look for Keri to deliver on this red carpet.

The LA premiere of Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker is expected to take place on Tuesday July 17, 2019.

“Just Mercy” LA Premiere Red Carpet Wish List

I have heard that there will be one more premiere for Just Mercy before its official release date of Christmas Day, but I haven’t been able to confirm a date or location yet. I would assume that it will take place in LA after having screened at the Toronto and London Film Festivals earlier this year. If it does have another red carpet premiere I would imagine that it will be a little more on the laid back side. Brie Larson donned a majorly dramatic Giambattista Valli Couture moment on the red carpet at the Toronto Film Festival premiere of Just Mercy. Now for the LA premiere I am predicting something a little less dramatic, but still fun and bold for Brie to bring to life on the red carpet with this tangerine Christopher John Rogers Spring 2020 RTW sleeveless halter dress which features a bow detail on the back of the neck (and we all know Brie loves a good bow), a gathered detail on the hip, an a-line silhouette, and an asymmetric flamenco hem. I feel like coming off the heels of his CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund win this year that 2020 is going to mean BIG things for Christopher John Rogers, but why wait until 2020 when we could have this look served to us to help finish 2019 in high style. A sleek low bun updo, defined eyes, soft pink lips, a pair of light gold glitter and metallic leather Miu Miu chunky strappy sandals, and dazzling Norman Silverman white diamond floral earclips made up of individual 2 carat teardrop diamonds would definitely ensure that Brie gives us flirty glamour on this red carpet from head to toe. Michael B. Jordan has a sense of style, but there has been a lot of questioning the execution of his looks. There is usually some sort of issue, typically with fit. Fit should never be an issue for a man in Hollywood. There is an abundance of tailors in LA, and across the world, that are more than capable of making sure there is an absolutely perfect fit for a suit. Michael’s suits tend to fit on the small side. That might be because with his frame he might be in between sizes. Well he is a big enough star that designers can and will make a suit made to measure for them. Or he can get a size up and then have one of the many expert tailors in LA fit it perfectly to him. I know Dior has a team of tailors who work specifically with the VIP clientele and so when I picked this cornflower blue Dior Man Spring 2020 Menswear double breasted suit with a shinny silk button down I knew it was the perfect idea to make sure that Michael could have a major moment to bring to life on the red carpet at the LA premiere for Just Mercy. Now to finish this look I would tuck in the button down, ditch the necklace and bag the look was paired with on the runway, keep the crystal broach, and add a pair of dark navy blue Christian Louboutin ‘Cousin Greg’ lace up oxfords to really make this look the head to toe perfect moment for Michael to rock on this red carper.

“Cats” NYC Premiere Red Carpet Wish List

Cats has had quite the interesting journey. First of all even as a lover of Broadway and movie musicals I was less than excited when it was announced that Cats was going to make the leap from the great white way to the silver screen. It has never been one of my favorites, but then they started announcing a STELLAR cast. So I got into it. Then came the now infamous first trailer for the film. It received major backlash from the movie viewing community, but personally the visuals of the movie excited me. Now I was let down by what I heard of Jennifer Hudson singing the iconic song “Memory” from the musical as I thought she would have turned it into a real powerhouse moment, but it was lacking for me. Then came the news that the film wasn’t going to be able to compete in Awards Season due to the accelerated calendar next year and the Christmas Day theatrical opening. Then came the news that it would be able to compete. And in spite of everything it has going for it the only Awards Season love it has received thus far is a Best Original Song nomination at the Golden Globe Awards. So what will the films major gala premiere in New York City bring? It doesn’t seem like the film is really in any place to campaign hard for an Oscar, but I hope the cast brings to the red carpet like they are. I especially hope that is the cast with Taylor  Swift since she is nominated with composer Andrew Lloyd Weber for Best Original Song and it just might be the only nomination that the film gets. Honestly I had picked the look I wanted to see Taylor bring to life on this red carpet months ago when this white Alexis Mabille Spring 2020 RTW column gown which features an embroidered kissing cat motif, sheer polka dot embroidered tulle detailing, long sleeves, and a jewel neckline was first presented. I saw it and immediately sent it to three friends and asked if this was to kitschy for Taylor to wear for the NYC premiere of Cats, but I think TayTay knows how to play the right level of kitsch always. So I was dead set in picking this gown for her to bring to life on this red carpet. It is kitschy while still being glamorous and demure while still being a little sexy. I think that in a year where I haven’t LOVED anything that Taylor has worn that this gown could really bring her to life. I would style this gown with a sleek 60’s inspired updo, winged eyes, punchy pink lips, a white pearl and silver crystal embellished Sophia Webster ‘Clara’ clutch, simple yet glamorous nude Sophia Webster ‘Haley’ crystal embellished heel ankle strap sandals, and a pop of color via a pair of Irene Neuwirth one of a kind ‘Lily of the Valley’ garland drop earrings made up of lemon quartz, chrysoprase, blue chalcedony, turquoise, pink, green and fire opals, and white diamonds to really ensure that Taylor shuts down the red carpet at this premiere. Now in spite of the fact that I was disappointed in Jennifer Hudson’s rendition of “Memory” in the trailer for Cats I am still looking forward to seeing what she will deliver on the red carpets for the films gala premiere in New York City. She recently wowed me on the red carpet at the Lincoln Center Corporate Fund’s gala wearing an electric blue caped Tom Ford gown with a navy velvet corset. I want that same level of glamour and drama when Jennifer steps on to the red carpet at this premiere. I went with this black and white Pamella Roland Spring 2020 RTW one shoulder column gown which features a slim fit, two-tone, crystal detail and feather embellishment throughout, front slit, and an asymmetric hemline as I just feel like this is the super glamorous moment I want to see Jennifer bring to life on this red carpet. I feel like styling this gown with a sleek braided bun updo, defined eyes, red lips, a silver chunky crystal embellished Judith Leiber Couture ‘Smooth Rectangle Polaris’ clutch, a pair of black crystal embellished Giuseppe Zanotti ‘Leyna’ strappy sandals, and mismatched black and white diamond Vhernier ‘Vauge’ sleek cluster earrings, would definitely make this look ooze modern glamour from head to toe. I first took notice of American actress and dancer Mette Towley when she stepped out on the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival last year wearing Ashi Studio couture as the guest of jewelry label de Grisogono. She has a sleek, modern, and dramatic take on dressing and I am really excited to see what she will bring to the red carpet at the NYC premiere of Cats. I decided to go with a much more of a standard red carpet look for Mette to bring to life for this premiere as it is a big gala premiere for a film grasping at straws to gain awards season steam. I think that she would definitely make this gold sequin Dundas Spring 2020 RTW ruched gown which features a slip silhouette, ruched bodice, thin straps, and a high slit into a really dazzling moment. The look will bring all the glamour I would expect from a premiere like this with just enough sex appeal to add an edge for Mette. With her short hair, defined eyes, dark berry lips, a pair of gold Aquazzura ‘Purist’ ankle strap sandals, and rose gold set white diamond de Grisogono ‘Raggiante’ starburst drop earrings and a matching ring I think that Mette can bring the edgy glam to this red carpet. Rebel Wilson really came into her own on the red carpet this year. She did two big premieres this year, both in red, and delivered her best red carpet moments ever. I am praying that she will once again deliver another absolutely glamorous moment on the red carpet Monday at the NYC premiere of Cats. This indigo blue Badgley Mischka Pre-Fall 2020 gown which features a beaded fringe covered long sleeve bodice with a v-neck and a sleek hourglass fit skirt with a side split definitely fits into her new found sense of glamour. I think that Rebel would definitely be able to dazzle this gown especially if styled with a sleek updo, defined eyes, soft pink lips, a pair of dark blue satin Roger Vivier ‘Viv Bling’ platform sandals, and glamorous Niwika ‘Umeutage’ white diamond floral lattice chandelier earrings.

The NYC premiere of Cats is expected to take place on Monday December 16, 2019.

“Bombshell” LA Premiere Red Carpet Wish List

Bombshell tells the story of the women of FOX News when they stood together and blew the whistle that the networks CEO Roger Ailes was a sexual abuser. The film is set to make waves during awards season. It has already earned several Critics Choice Award nominations and with the Golden Globe & SAG Award nominations set to be announced this week I am sure that this film is just starting its awards season run despite no love from the AFI Awards or the National Board of Review. The LA Premiere of Bombshell is expected to take place tomorrow and I am expecting that the cast will be on top form. Charlize Theron has earned a Best Actress nomination at the 2020 Critics Choice Awards and will be honored with the International Star Award, Actress at the 2020 Palm Springs Film Festival Black Tie Awards Gala for her portrayal of Megyn Kelly in Bombshell. I feel like it has been a long time since I have gotten excited about seeing Charlize on the red carpet. She has just become blah to me lately even when she is wearing runway looks I fell in love with when they were first presented. She hasn’t been breathing the life I know that she can into her red carpet looks. Now I think part of that is the fact I just don’t love her wearing Maria Grazia Chiuri’s bohemian take on Dior, but since Charlize has been a face of Dior for almost 16 years now I don’t see her severing those ties. So for this premiere I did go to a right off the runway look for Charlize to bring to life on the red carpet with this this black Christian Dior Fall 2019 Couture cocktail look which features a sleek black silk peplum v-neck bodice and a sheer 3D embroidered carwash pleat and netted midi skirt. This is one of the few looks from Maria Grazia’s Dior that I think that Charlize would be able to sell to me. It gives more of a sexy, structured, and glamorous take on MGC’s bohemian aesthetic and that is perfect for Charlize. Now recently a big sticking point I have had with Charlize’s red carpet looks has been the hair. Her pixie is definitely something she has rocked with great aplomb before, so again not sure what has been happening lately. But for this look I think that a sleek side parted pixie with bold defined eyes, bold red lips, a black crystal embellished Christian Louboutin ‘Palmette’ clutch, a pair of black Christian Louboutin ‘Renee’ strappy glittered leather stiletto sandals, a black Times Up pin, and dazzling Chopard Red Carpet Collection 2019 white diamond and emerald paisley ear clip earrings would definitely make this an absolutely major for Charlize to bring to life on this red carpet. When it comes to Margot Robbie she is going to have a busy awards season ahead of her as well. Not only did she just get a Critics Choice Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress for her work in Bombshell, but her film Once Upon A Time In Hollywood is DOMINATING the rounds this awards season. I am just praying that the end of 2019 and looking forward to 2020 will fair much better for Margot’s style than the rest of 2020 did. I honestly would have expected that Margot would have delivered her most major moments yet, but honestly she seemed to give more Worst Dressed of the Year worthy looks than best. As a Chanel ambassador there was a bit of a period of uncertainty of which direction the brand was going to go in the post Karl era, but Virginie Viard has kept the label going with the same aesthetic Karl laid out for the brand over his tenure. Virginie just showed her 4th collection at the helm of Chanel and it was honestly my favorite offering from her yet. This white 60’s inspired trapeze mini dress which features ostrich plumes on the hem and cuffs definitely fits the vibe of Margot’s other movie, but I think that it would be a perfect look for her to bring to life on the red carpet at the premiere of Bombshell. The look is fun, flirty, sexy, and glamorous and exactly what I feel like Margot would be able to sell on the red carpet. I think that styling this look with a teased bouffant style updo, thick sleek winged eyeliner, soft blush pink lips, white Aquazzura ‘Donata’ crystal strap pointed toe mules, and a pair of chic Mateo NY ‘Barely Blush’ pink morganite, rose quartz, and white diamond drop earrings would definitely make sure that Margot finishes 2019 in high style. Nicole Kidman is the only cast member on this set of wishes for the Bombshell premiere that didn’t get a singular Critics Choice Award nomination, but she is nominated with the rest of the cast for Best Acting Ensemble. Now for Nicole I decided I wanted to go for a bold fashion moment picking this fuchsia sequined Marc Jacobs Spring 2020 RTW suit. Regular readers know I LOVE color and I just couldn’t do all black and white looks for this wish list. I was looking for the perfect moment for Nicole to bring to life for this red carpet and I saw this suit and honestly kept scrolling, but it caught my eye because I just kept thinking about it. So I decided to go with it. Now thinking about how I wanted to see it styled on Nicole is vastly different from the runway. I would definitely ditch the metallic knit ruffled turtleneck, hat, butterfly glasses, and orange bag the suit was styled with on the runway. Personally I would love to see Nicole wear this suit bare chested with a lot of double sided tape and a Victorian Etruscan Revival gold and amethyst collar necklace from Fred Leighton. I’m not sure that would happen, but it is definitely what I think would be best. A loose updo, defined eyes, soft antique rose pink lips, and a pair of sparkling gold sequin, glitter, and PVC paneled Sophia Webster ‘Daria’ pointed toe pumps would definitely make this a major stand out moment for Nicole to bring to life.

The LA premiere of Bombshell is expected to take place tomorrow Tuesday December 9, 2019.
