2020 Met Gala Red Carpet Wish List Part 10

The 2019 Met Gala gave us “Camp,” a seemingly endless stream of dramatic over the top moments. There was no lack of color, volume, sequins, crystals, feathers, and more on that red carpet. I was definitely a lot to take in. This years Met Gala theme of “About Time: Fashion and Duration” is bound to deliver the exact opposite. While “Camp” ensured everyone delivering huge fashion moments I believe that “About Time” will deliver a myriad of takes on classic glam. I am sure that we will see lots of looks that hearken back to the 20’s, 30’s, 40’s, 50’s, and 60’s which can be acclaimed as the heyday of high glamour. From flappers to Jackie O I feel like the inspiration that can be taken for style that has endured the test of time is pretty endless, but one thing runs the gambit: Glamour. It has been a while since we have seen Amy Adams on the Met Gala red carpet. The last event she attended was the 2014 “Charles James” themed gala. With major projects expected to be released later this year that could have her finally seeing Oscar gold next awards season. So I really want to see her take advantage of any major red carpet she can to keep up appearances. I actually decided to go a bit of an unexpected route for Amy picking a designer we have never seen on the Met Gala red carpet: Ports 1961. I always check out the Ports show hoping for chic moments. When I saw this burgundy sequin and and red pleated silk midi dress which features thin straps and a gold chain link belt I immediately thought it would be a superb moment for Amy. Then I started thinking of how it would look without the black polka dotted tulle blouse from underneath and lengthening the skirt to hit the floor and adding a long train to make a super chic, unexpected moment for Amy to wear on the Met Gala red carpet. Finishing the look with old Hollywood waves worn over one shoulder, smokey eyes, nude lips, a gold metallic python leather Tyler Ellis ‘Perry’ clutch, a pair of gold Christian Louboutin ‘Maia Labella’ crystal embellished mesh pointed toe strappy d’Orsay pumps, and vintage Cartier High Jewelry 18k gold set ruby and white diamond earclips would definitely make sure that Amy delivers the glamour on this red carpet. Diplo has been on the Met Gala red carpet many times over the last several years and I would expect him to walk the red carpet again this year. He was front row at the Louis Vuitton by Virgil Abloh Fall 2020 Menswear show back in January and I feel like that was the precursor to him wearing a look from the label on the Met Gala red carpet. I was watching this show live from my desk in my office I would love to see Diplo go a little left of what the typical menswear look is for the Met Gala. This petrol blue button down skirt, matching tie, and pants which features degrade beading from the collar down the sleeves, tie, and torso of the shirt caught my eye immediately and I believe that it would definitely be something that Diplo would be drawn to. Lately Diplo has been wearing a lot of cowboy hats so I would love to see him ask Virgil to create a custom beaded cowboy hat to match the look. Adding a pair of black leather Louis Vuitton ‘Vendome’ chelsea boots and a grey damier pattern Louis Vuitton ‘Neo Trunk’ belt with a large buckle would definitely make this a perfect look for Diplo to rock on the Met Gala red carpet. Jennifer Lopez has delivered major looks on the Met Gala red carpet. Her 2017 robins egg blue Valentino Couture ended up topping my Best Dressed of the Year list. She knows how to bring her signature sexy brand of glamour to whatever look she’s wearing. I was looking at the Oscar de la Renta Fall 2020 RTW collection and the moment I saw this black and white feathered hem velvet gown which features a high neck, long sleeves, high low hem, and a dramatic train I knew it had to be a Met moment. In the same thought I also knew that it would be a killer moment on JLo. Now with all her spring ad campaigns (Coach, Versace, Guess) it is likely that if we see Jennifer on this red carpet that she would most likely be wearing a custom look from one of those labels. I would love to see her go for this gown which is a bit of an unexpected choice. The gown is made for this Met Gala red carpet and I just know that with her sensual sensibility that she would once again shut the red carpet down. A big dramatic bun updo, defined winged eyes, bold matte red lips, a black Oscar de la Renta crystal bow clasp satin clutch, a pair of white Christian Louboutin ‘Degrastrass’ crystal embellished PVC pointed toe pumps, and dazzling white diamond Harry Winston ‘Cluster’ drop earrings would definitely make this a major moment for JLo. I decided to delve into the archives of different brands. Chanel spokesmodels are bound to be all over the Met Gala red carpet this year. Three of the four looks that Chanel sent to the Met last year came out of the archive. So I would love to see Chanel once again dive into the archives for the perfect looks for their ladies to wear on this red carpet this year. I think that speaks to the idea of “About Time: Fashion and Duration” perfectly. Let’s make the “old” new again. I while on my Chanel archive dive I found this red metallic lurex? one shoulder draped gown from the Chanel Fall 1992 Couture collection and I fell in love. Margot Robbie wore vintage Chanel for the Oscars and so it was an easy choice for me to want to see her once again delve into the archives to wear this one shoulder moment for the 2020 Met Gala. It almost gives me a bit of a Pretty Woman vibe, but I in a very modern way. I want to make sure that the look doesn’t read dated so styling is going to have to be really on point. A sleek updo, defined eyes, soft blush pink lips, red satin Aquazzura ‘Deneuve’ ankle strap sandals, and a pair of white diamond Chanel Fine Jewelry ‘Cascade’ drop earrings would definitely make this look come to life perfectly. My final look in this set of wishes is for the beautiful Selena Gomez. It has been a really long time since I have even really liked something Selena has worn on the Met red carpet, and honestly I have never loved one of her looks. I also delved into archives for Selena picking this ice blue draped yet structured Atelier Versace Spring 1995 Couture gown which features a signature pointed bustier neckline and a really sexy thigh high split. This gown is superb. Now honestly I decided to pick this gown more as inspiration for a custom look basically remaking this iconic Versace style, but adding a really long train to the look. Now this is definitely more of an out there idea for Selena to wear on the Met red carpet since she is a friend of Louis Vuitton and they are sponsoring this years gala I would automatically assume that she will most likely wear LV on this red carpet, but I really want to see this Atelier Versace moment come to life. Styling this look with a sleek center parted bob, defined eyes, bright pink lips, silver Jimmy Choo ‘Lilah’ metallic leather strappy sandals, and a selection of Messika High Jewelry white diamonds including a pair of ‘Etoile Polaire’ stud earrings, a statement ‘Calyx’ geometric collar necklace, and a modern art deco inspired ‘Shirin’ cuff bracelet would finish this look to absolute perfection making for Selena’s best red carpet moment ever.

2020 Met Gala Red Carpet Wish List Part 9

I can’t believe that we are just 9 days into my wishes for what would have been the 2020 Met Gala. I have so many picks prepared for all of you that building these lists I get them all meshed into one. When asked by the New York Times fashion writer Vanessa Friedman Andrew Bolton, the curator in charge of the Costume Institute of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, said “Fashion is indelibly connected to time. It not only reflects and represents the spirit of the times, but it also changes and develops with the times.” I am really intrigued to see how the different labels will attack this theme. I think the overall vibe of this look will evoke the classic codes set out by Christian Dior, Coco Chanel, Cristobal Balenciaga, Hubert de Givenchy, and Yves Saint Laurent. Classics with a twist on different brand codes. I think today’s wishes definitely speak to that idea, but also stay close to the codes of each individual label. The codes of the Gucci house to me are more in the prints and use of the logo, horsebit, and bamboo handles than they are actually related to cut and style of clothing. So trying to figure out what the Gucci looks for the 2020 Met Gala should look like was actually a little difficult. That being said the Gucci Fall 2020 RTW show really seemed to evoke the idea of time. The show was presented on a turntable with models being  dressed in the center and walking to the edge to present the looks as the circular stage rotated for guests. It was definitely a different staging than we are used to seeing a runway show being presented. One could get the idea that the turntable represented a clock with each of the 60 models representing a minute. The collection also seemed to span inspiration from not just decades in fashion, but also centuries. While it might not have been one of my favorite collections overall there were several looks that caught my eye. This baby pink floral embellished mini dress with a matching cape trimmed with frayed chiffon ruffles and a black leather harness and belt was one of them. Gucci shows are usually so over styled so you really have to imagine stripped back looks. I would start stripping this look by removing the hat, beige neck ruffle, top handle bag, frayed stockings, knit tube socks, and clunky boots leaving just the dress, cape, harness, and black leather gloves behind. Then I would ask Gucci creative director Alessandro Michele to lengthen the skirt of this dress to hit the floor giving a column gown silhouette. Now that you have that stripped down, customized version of this gown in your head now imagine it on Gucci darling Amandla Stenberg, who actually was front row at this show. What I love most about Amandla’s style is that she isn’t afraid to take a risk. This look isn’t what one would normally think of for a 21 year old actress, but I think that while the dress and cape would definitely skew older the infusion of the punk spirit via the leather gloves and harness I think that Amandla would rock this look on the Met Gala red carpet with great aplomb. I would finish this look with a braided updo made to look like a bouffant, a black patent leather clunky Gucci chunky heel peep toe platform sandals, and a selection Ana Khouri High Jewelry including a pair of white diamond ‘Simplicity’ earpieces and a white diamond ‘Mirian’ cuff bracelet would definitely make sure this look balances 60’s high society and punk rock vibes perfectly. Over the years Diane Kruger has delivered everything from short and sexy in Alberta Ferretti and Chanel Couture to big and dramatic in Prada and Prabal Gurung. With this years theme of “About Time: Fashion and Duration” I really want to see Diane bring something super chic to the Met Gala red carpet. Now when I was thinking of people who have executed classic glamour on the red carpet in Jason Wu in the past Diane was the first person to come to mind for when she wore a mustard custom Jason Wu gown for the SAG Awards in 2010. I knew that since Diane has been a guest of Jason Wu at the Met twice before (once in Jason Wu in 2011 and again in BOSS when Jason was the creative director of the label in 2014) that the possibility of her wearing another of his confections on this red carpet was likely. Now that being said I want to see Diane really deliver avant garde glamour wearing this white and black organza Jason Wu Fall 2020 RTW gown which features allover ruffles, cap sleeves, structured hips, a tapered a-line silhouette, and a center split. The gown isn’t huge and doesn’t feature a long train, nor do I want it to be modified in anyway. As it was presented this look really did just scream DRAMA and glamour and I think that Diane would easily be able to sell this look to me on a red carpet which will undoubtedly be filled with big ball skirts and long dramatic trains especially if styled with a sleek vintage inspired updo, defined eyes, red lips, an emerald green satin Jimmy Choo ‘Leonis’ crystal clasp clutch, a pair of black suede Jimmy Choo ‘Tris’ crystal wing ankle strap peep toe sandals, and dazzling Chopard Red Carpet Collection white diamond and emerald teardrop earrings. Jennifer Lawrence hasn’t been on the Met Gala red carpet since she hosted the 2015 gala wearing custom Dior Couture by Raf Simons with the designer. Actually she has only ever attended two Met Gala’s in the past. Honestly the black Dior look with a veil that JLaw wore for the 2014 gala would be perfect for this red carpet. If we see Jen on this years Met Gala red carpet I would be certain that she would be wearing a Christian Dior Couture ensemble by Maria Grazia Chiuri. Now while I might have my issues with MGC she does know how to do the nipped waist a-line gowns and “New Look” suits. In fact that is what she has built her foundation on at Dior along with tacky feminist slogan t-shirts. Now my snark aside there are definitely some looks from the label I really think would be perfect for this theme. Enter this maroon to charcoal ombre hammered silk ballgown which features a bustier bodice and asymmetric thin straps from the Christian Dior Fall 2019 Couture collection would definitely be right on theme for this year’s gala really turning to that late 40’s and early 50’s vibe of the house of Christian Dior. I think that Jennifer would definitely be able to sell this look to me on the red carpet. It isn’t what I would typically pick for her. I usually go for more simplistic and sporty styles, but every once in a while a regal princess moment is great too. A sleek low bun updo, defined eyes, soft glossy pink lips, a pair of black floral Christian Dior ‘Sweet-D’ embroidered tulle slingback pointed toe pumps, and a selection of Tiffany & Co. jewels including simple white diamond and ruby stud earrings and a matching white diamond and ruby art deco inspired link tennis necklace would all make sure that this look exudes glamour from top to toe. Going into awards season I was really hoping that Margaret Qualley was going to really come into her own. I was let down over and over again. The only real moment that will not fade into the annals of my mind will be the Chanel suit she wore for the SAG Awards. She actually wore Chanel for all the major red carpets and each one was pretty boring except for that suit. For the last two years Margaret has worn white and black on the Met Gala red carpet. Well honestly either of her previous looks would work for this years red carpet, but since she is such a friend to the house of Chanel now I decided to pick one of the only looks from the Chanel Spring 2020 Couture collection for her to wear on the red carpet. In fact while overall my 2020 Met Gala wishes have seven looks from Chanel featured in it this is one of only two looks from the current couture collection I’m featuring (the other was Anna Wintour and even that was custom.) That all being said when I saw this black, silver, and white Chanel Spring 2020 Couture off the shoulder tea length gown Margaret was actually one of the first people to come to mind. I think this dress is super chic and effortless. Now many will probably guess that when I say I would want a slight modification to this look for Margaret would imagine that I would say I want to see it lengthened to the floor. That is actually not true I love the idea of a tea length gown in a sea of big floor length gowns (now that isn’t the case for most looks), but instead I would like to see the white underskirt brought all the way up to the waistline instead of being worn on the hips like it was on the runway. Now styling is also an a problem for most of Margaret’s looks. So to really make sure this look is perfection from head to toe I would love to see this gown styled with a vintage inspired updo, defined eyes, red lips, a pair of classic black satin Chanel pointed cap toe slingback pumps, and a selection of Chanel Haute Jewelry including a pair of white diamond parrot design cluster earrings and a statement white diamond tweed inspired cuff bracelet. Finishing out today is a look from one of the hot designer’s of now who’s look does abide by the codes of those classic houses I mentioned in my first paragraph. Jonathan Simkhai made is Met Gala debut last year dressing supermodel Josephine Skriver. I would love to see the designer once again create a custom look for the Met Gala dressing Shailene Woodley in a floor length version of this black faux leather asymmetric dress from his Fall 2020 RTW collection which features a relaxed fit, pleated silhouette, one-shoulder neckline, asymmetric midi hemline. Now I would love to keep the asymmetric hemline lengthening it so the longest points hit the floor, but not the whole hem. I would also love to see this gown have a dramatic train. The look does speak to classic glamour in a very modern way and I think that Shailene would definitely be able to sell this look to me on a red carpet. A sleek low bun updo, defined eyes, soft nude pink lips, a pair of black mesh paneled Christian Louboutin ‘Galativi’ suede pointed toe pumps, and Atelier Swarovski ‘Mosaic’ lab created emerald and white diamond drop earrings definitely would make this look come together perfectly to ensure Shailene has a major moment on her hands.

2020 Met Gala Red Carpet Wish List Part 8

I really need to stop myself from adding even more more parts to my 2020 Met Gala Wish Lists. Again last night I added another set of 5 wishes to my lineup. At this point I’ve picked looks for almost 185 stars and I just don’t think I can think of anyone else. So enjoy these! I have put a lot of thought into them. After I finish all now 36 parts in this series I will start a “What Could Have Been At Cannes” series featuring films we were expecting to see screened at this years festival. I have to say that part of me is super sad that these Met Wishes don’t really have the possibility of coming to life on the red carpeted steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art with the rumored new date of the Met Gala and subsequent exhibition opening now set for mid-October. These might be my absolute favorite wishes I’ve ever done for a Met Gala. But as I mentioned at the start I didn’t want them to go to waste. So lets dive into the five looks I want to see brought to life on this red carpet? Alexander McQueen always delivers absolutely beautiful collections and what Sarah Burton sent down the runway earlier this month for the labels Fall 2020 RTW collection presentation was no different. I was enamored by her use of volume and embroidery. For a couple of years now I have said that  must be rolling in his grave knowing how commercialized his label has become. This season it seemed like Sarah toed, and sometime crossed, the line into more avant garde territory. The show closed with two major embroidered tulle moments that I feel were perfect for this years Met Gala as they really speak to the duration of the Alexander McQueen legacy. The moment I saw this nude tulle and red intricately embroidered buster high low ballgown come down the Alexander McQueen Fall 2020 RTW runway the thought of seeing Amanda Seyfried wearing it on the Met steps came into my mind. Now this is definitely a lot more volume than we are used to seeing from Amanda, but I definitely think that she has the effortless presence to really bring this gown to life on a red carpet. Now the dress itself is such a statement I would definitely keep styling real simple with a sleek updo, defined eyes, bold red lips, a pair of simple red suede Stuart Weitzman ‘Nudist’ sandals, and a little bit of sparkle via a simple vintage Tiffany & Co. white diamond and ruby necklace which features a fringe of pear-shaped diamonds, mounted in platinum and 18k gold to deliver this look perfectly. If Deepika Padukone were to walk the red carpet at the 2020 Met Gala it would be her fourth year in a row. She has been the guest of Tommy Hilfiger, Prabal Gurung, and Zac Posen over the last three years. Her gowns have continued getting bigger and bigger. I want to see the Bollywood beauty bringing the drama to the Met steps. Now instead of one of the big labels that Deepika has become a darling of like Louis Vuitton (she modeled in the brands Pre-Fall 2020 lookbook and given the fact the fashion house is sponsoring this years event and exhibition it wouldn’t surprise me to see Deepika as a guest of the house) but instead I went to the designer who had her topping my 2018 Best Dressed of the Year list: Ashi Studio. The label has never had a Met Gala moment, but this coral silk faille sleeveless ball gown with matching big bow opera gloves from the Ashi Studio Fall 2019 Couture collection fits this years theme perfectly. I really do believe that Deepika would easily be able to sell this look to me on the red carpet. A sleek bun updo, dramatic coral smokey eyes, matte nude lips, a pair of coral patent leather Christian Louboutin ‘Jonatina’ PVC strap sandals, and statement Chopard Loves Rihanna Red Carpet Collection ‘Carnival’ bright multicolored gemstone chandelier earrings an this would be a really bright spot on a red carpet I feel will be consumed with black and white looks. Janet Mock made her Met Gala debut last year wearing a mirror and feather embellished Alberta Ferretti gown. The actress is gorgeous and I really want to see her bring this major canary yellow Carolina Herrera Fall 2020 RTW tiered cape ball gown with a belted waist to life on the Met Gala red carpet. It is the perfect meshing of the legacy that Mrs. Herrera herself built for the house and that Wes Gordon has continued with his spin. She sat the front row at the Carolina Herrera Spring 2020 RTW and that is what prompted me to pick Janet to wear this gown. Like I said about Deepika I think that while black and white will be the color of the night, this gown would definitely be a bold color statement to bring to the Met Gala red carpet. Styling the look with a romantic updo, defined eyes, red lips, a pair of bright yellow Aquazzura ‘Very Vera’ crystal embellished ankle strap sandals, and Amwaj white and yellow diamond cluster drop earrings would definitely ensure that Janet brings the drama to the Met Gala red carpet. American singer songwriter Maggie Rogers has become a bit of the unexpected fashionista. She was dressed by Chanel for her first Grammy’s. She has also been dressed by Prada, Gucci, and Stella McCartney for other red carpets. Most recently she was seen front row at the Valentino Fall 2020 RTW show wearing a feather cuff pyjama inspired co-ord. It was that fact that had me including her in my wishes for the 2020 Met Gala. I wanted to pick this midnight blue Valentino Fall 2020 Menswear double breasted liquid sequin loose fit suit for a gentleman, but as I was searching for the perfect people to bring Valentino looks to life on the red carpet I had the thought of seeing Maggie in this suit. I while it isn’t the big dramatic gowns that started this list I definitely think that this look would mesh Maggie’s laid back yet extra sense of style and dramatic dazzle for the Met Gala red carpet. Her full beachy waves, defined eyes, bold matte red lips, a black Valentino ‘VCASE’ crystal logo leather clutch, a pair of black and silver brocade Jimmy Choo ‘Cruz’ lace-up booties, and a selection of Anita Ko diamonds including double row marquise diamond floating earrings and a small diamond chain link choker would definitely make this look perfect for Maggie. Over the years Sienna Miller has been dressed by everyone from Thakoon, Burberry, Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Paco Rabanne, and Emilio Pucci over the years. I was looking for someone to wear a custom gown version of this black and red fully beaded Dries Van Noten Fall 2020 RTW long sleeve midi dress and when I thought of Sienna wearing the gown I definitely imagined something super chic. I’m not sure what the back of this gown looks like, but I would love to see Dries customize this dress to have a low v-back taking the beaded rose corsage off the choker the look was presented with on the runway and placing it at the base of the back. I would also want to see the gown have a little bit of a sweeping train to really make sure the look is Met Gala red carpet ready. A sleek updo, defined eyes, antique rose pink lips, a rose pink satin Roger Vivier ‘Brochamour Envelop’ white and red crystal embellished buckle clutch, a pair of black satin Roger Vivier ‘Marlene’ strass ball detailed ankle strap sandals, and a pair of white diamond and ruby David Morris art deco inspired drop earrings would add the perfect finishing touches to this Met Gala ensemble.

2020 Met Gala Red Carpet Wish List Part 7

So I’m not going to lie. Last night as I was writing this post I also took stock in all the wishes I had. I realized that there were some stars and some designers I really wanted to make sure were featured, so I added two more parts to the end of my 2020 Met Gala wishes. So instead of 33 parts this series will continue to 35. What does that mean for today? Absolutely nothing. The looks below are ones I had already started to plan long before I made that off the cuff decision. In fact regular readers might notice that two of the wishes today also featured in my Fall 2020 RTW wishes from their respective fashion weeks. These wishes are all about having fun so make sure you keep checking back to see my latest, and I definitely recommend clicking links to see all the items I would use to style each look. Amal Clooney has attended 2 Met Gala’s in the past. The 2015 “China Through The Looking Glass” event wearing custom Maison Margiela by John Galliano and the 2018 “Heavenly Bodies” event (which she actually co-hosted) wearing custom Richard Quinn. Amal is definitely one of my favorite fashion stars and I am hoping to see her deliver high fashion moments on the Met steps this year. I would love to see Amal be the guest of Pierpaolo Piccioli and Valentino this year wearing this uber chic red silk off the shoulder ruched and pleated mermaid gown which features a black bow detail on one shoulder and a sweeping train. This gown is the epitome of classic Valentino and I really do believe that Amal would be the perfect person to really bring this moment to life. She has the statuesque glamour that I think is really needed to make this look come to life on the red carpet. A sleek bun updo, defined eyes, antique rose pink matte lips, a red suede Gianvito Rossi ‘Bella’ clutch, a pair of red suede Gianvito Rossi ‘MONTECARLO’ crystal embellished chain ankle strap pointed toe d’orsay pumps, and a suite of vintage ruby and white diamond jewels from Cartier that once belonged to Elizabeth Taylor including drop earrings and a wreath bracelet would definitely all make sure that Amal embodies this years Met theme of “About Time: Fashion & Duration.”In the last year I have really grown to appreciate Darren Criss’s style on the red carpet. He isn’t afraid to bold looks. So when I was hunting for the perfect guy yo wear this black and white Givenchy Fall 2020 Menswear ensemble which features a cream vest and black trousers worn sans shirt I knew that Darren has the chutzpah to bring the look to life on the red carpet. Now this is far from what we would typically expect to see from a man on the Met Gala red carpet. When I think of this red carpet I typically think of dudes going for something much more classic and well standard. This look is a vastly modern take on formal dressing and it will take the right person to bring it to life on the red carpet. I think that with Darren’s red carpet history that he has the brass balls big enough to really make this look work on the red carpet. His signature perfectly messy curls and a pair of black Christian Louboutin ‘Greggo Flat’ metallic velvet brocade crystal strass embellished cap toe oxfords would definitely accomplish the goal I set out with by picking this look for the Met: disrupting the menswear norms. Janelle Monae OWNED the red carpet at the 2019 Met Gala with her custom Christian Siriano ensemble which featured a blinking eye on one boob. Janelle has always abided by the theme of the Met and with this years theme fitting perfectly within Janelle’s usual sensibility I am really excited to see what she will bring to this years red carpet. Instead of going to one of the brands whom Janelle typically wears that are sure to be on the red carpet at the 2020 Met Gala, but instead I went to a look that really spoke to me instead. Antonio Marras, an Italian fashion label, has never had a Met Gala fashion moment. Janelle has worn so many unexpected labels on the Met red carpet so seeing her wearing this black and white Antonio Marras Fall 2020 RTW gown which features a white button down bodice with lace panels, a drop waist, and an a-line silhouette isn’t totally out of the realm of possibility. This look mixes menswear inspiration and 20’s flapper in such a chic and modern manner and I definitely believe that Janelle would make the major moment I know it could be on the Met steps. A chic finger wave updo, smokey eyes, bold red lips, a black and silver crystal embellished lace pattern Judith Leiber Couture ‘Petit Cadeau’ minaudiere, black chunky heel Miu Miu ‘Calzature Donna’ crystal embellished platform sandals, and a major selection of Yvan Tufenkjian ‘Stacked” collection white diamond jewels including a pair of cluster earrings, and three different cocktail rings (one, two, three) all would finish make this look Met Gala ready. Mandy Moore knows how to deliver feminine glamour on the red carpet. I’m surprised that Mandy has only walked the red carpet at the Met Gala once in the last decade. She is constantly wearing looks from the most coveted labels in the fashion industry. I want to see her give us dramatic feminine glamour on the 2020 Met Gala red carpet. This baby pink Carolina Herrera Fall 2020 RTW gown wasn’t presented on the runway, but I found it in the collection’s digital trunkshow on ModaOperandi. This column gown which features a v-neck and a dramatic bow back is perfect for this years theme. I would want to see Carolina Herrera’s creative director Wes Gordon customize this gown lengthening the tail of the bow into a long dramatic train. That would really make the gown itself PERFECT for this years red carpet. Finish the look with a sleek beehive updo, bronze smokey eyes, punchy pink lips, multi-tone pink crystal embellished Jimmy Choo ‘Cloud’ clutch, a pair of ballet pink glittered leather Jimmy Choo ‘Thaia’ crystal embellished strappy sandals, and dazzling hot pink rubellite Chopard Red Carpet Collection chandelier earrings and I know that Mandy could very well be one of my favorites of the night!I had picked this black ruffled Off-White c/o Virgil Abloh Fall 2020 RTW tracksuit gown for Serena Williams in my Paris Fashion Week wishes. The moment I saw this gown on the runway I knew that it would be perfect for Serena. It meshes sportswear and high glamour perfectly. Now thinking about what look from Off-White would fit this years Met Gala theme I thought this look was perfect. While it isn’t “Classic” by any standard I think that this look is the perfect way for Serena to deliver a look that fits the theme, but is still on brand for Off-White. Now as they say the devil is in the details. So styling is going to have to really make this look perfect. Now I would have Virgil add a dramatic train to this look for Serena to really bring the drama to the red carpet. I would make sure that Serena bring the classic glam to this look with the styling adding a sleek updo, defined smokey eyes, red lips, a pair of black satin Off-White x Jimmy Choo ‘Victoria’ chandelier beaded pointed toe pumps, and a selection of de Grisogono black and white diamonds including asymmetrical ribbon drop earrings and a wave dome cocktail ring.

2020 Met Gala Red Carpet Wish List Part 6

Fantasy and fashion go hand and hand. High fashion has a sense of escapism built into it and I am really excited to see what the Met Gala red carpet this year will bring. But since we are now going to have to wait several months for this years gala. I am still going through with all of my wishes I would want to see on this years red carpet if the gala was to take place on the First Monday in May. Each of the five looks in this set of wishes to me speaks to this years theme of “About Time: Fashion & Duration” perfectly, but in a manner that also stays true to each of the designers whom I want to see them wearing. So that really makes me excited to see what this carpet will bring. I knew from the moment I saw this black draped silk organza Nina Ricci Pre-Fall 2020 strapless cocktail dress that it would make for a PERFECT Met Gala gown. The design is definitely one of the new signatures under the leadership of Rushemy Botter & Lisi Herrebrugh, who have been at the helm of the brands for just over a year. I will say that while, like at any house, there was a bit of transition pains from one set of hands a the helm to another that the transition between hands at Nina Ricci over the last two decades has been pretty seamless. Now I don’t expect the brand to have a legion of guests with them if they take the Met Gala red carpet this year, but one strong look would definitely do the brand good. Enter Allison Williams. I feel like the former GIRLS actress is the perfect person to bring the label to life on this red carpet. I could see her wearing a customized floor length gown version of this cocktail dress. When I was thinking about styling this look I was really drawn to another new signature under the current leadership which are these bold oversized structured cloche’s and it made my mind start to wonder. Would they send the hat up the steps? Would Allison be bold enough to rock the hat on the red carpet? As these questions danced around in my head Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast At Tiffany’s popped into my head. Once that was in my mind I knew that I had to do it. Really what style has endured more than Audrey’s LBD’s in that film? So I decided to go full on with it adding the black Nina Ricci structured oversized cloche hat, a sleek bun updo underneath, defined eyes, soft blush pink lips, simple black Aquazzura ‘Purist’ sandals, a pair of white Clyde ‘Moonlight’ lambskin opera length gloves, an jewels from Mikimoto including simple white pearl and diamond stud earrings and a statement ‘Flower Lace’ akoya pearl and white diamond high jewelry necklace. It would definitely make for a superb modern classic statement on the red carpet. Danai Gurira knows how to make a major fashion moment happen on the red carpet. This is evidenced by her ability to effortless deliver an Iris Van Herpen creation on the red carpet. I have loved this white pleated gown with black piping from the Iris Van Herpen Fall 2019 Couture collection since it was first presented last July. This look is really the definition of classic glamour meets modernity and as I was picking looks I think are perfect for the Met Gala red carpet I knew that this gown just has to make it onto the Met Gala red carpet. It fits the theme perfectly. I would imagine that since Iris Van Herpen is featured in this years exhibition that at least one person will wear the label on the red carpet and Danai would definitely be the perfect person to deliver this look. A slick vintage inspired updo, smokey eyes, deep red glossy lips, a pair of black Giuseppe Zanotti ‘Jamila’ crystal bow embellished ankle strap sandals, and simple Ara Vartanian rubellite and white diamond drop earrings would definitely ensure this look is Met Gala ready.  Proenza Schouler usually dresses one star on the red carpet at the Met Gala. I was looking at the brands latest collection for inspiration for a custom gown for this years red carpet when I found this grey-ish brown and grey-ish green velvet Proenza Schouler Fall 2020 RTW cut-out ring dress which features long sleeves, a slim fit, ruched design, and a metal neckline detail. This dress turned into a gown could be a really chic moment. I was trying to think of who could bring this gown to life on the red carpet so I started looking at who sat front row at the brands show during New York Fashion Week. When I saw that Issa Rae had a perch at the show it just made sense. Issa knows how deliver chic moments on the red carpet and I believe that she would definitely be able to bring this look to life on the red carpet. I would love to see Issa bring this ensemble together perfectly with a sleek braided bun updo, defined eyed, burgundy lips, a dark silver metallic leather Proenza Schouler ‘ps1’ mini crossbody (the brands signature style) used as a clutch, a pair of champagne silver Giuseppe Zanotti ‘Aurelia’ PVC strap crystal heel mule sandals, and chic Mateo NY 14k goldm enamel, and pearl cascade drop earrings.I LOVE me some Dries Van Noten and I am praying to see his designs on Met Gala red carpet. If I can trust a quick Google search it seems like Dries has only ever dressed Solange Knowles for the 2011 Met Gala. One of the biggest champion of Dries has been Maggie Gyllenhaal who has worn his designs for several events over the years including the Oscars and the Toronto Film Festival. I would love to see Maggie ask Dries to customize this black and teal brocade pencil dress which features voluminous sleeves into a floor length gown. The structure reminds me a bit of classic Cristobal Balenciaga which I think would make for a perfect gown for the Met Gala red carpet especially if styled with a fingerwave updo, defined eyes, soft pink lips, a pair of black satin Roger Vivier crystal buckle platform sandals, and vintage 18k gold and aquamarine Tiffany & Co. sunburst ear clips. The final wish today is for Scarlett Johansson. We saw Scarlett really get back to her best over the course of this awards season. She gave us the perfect old Hollywood glamour moment at the Oscars. Honestly that champagne silk and beaded fringe Oscar de la Renta gown would have been perfect for this years Met Gala red carpet. But instead I have opted to wish for ScarJo to bring a custom silver and black crystal beaded fashion moment to life on the red carpet inspired by the embellishments seen in the Miu Miu Fall 2020 RTW collection. I would love to see her wear an off the shoulder mermaid gown with a dramatic train, maybe some feathers could be added to the train as well to really turn this ensemble into a major classic glam old Hollywood moment for Scarlett to bring to life on the steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Finishing the custom look with a sleek updo, defined eyes, red lips, a pair of silver Miu Miu metallic leather crystal embellished sandals, and dazzling vintage white diamond Cartier High Jewelry drop earrings would definitely make sure Scarlett exudes nothing but glamour.

2020 Met Gala Red Carpet Wish List Part 5

A rumor came out yesterday that Vogue Magazine and the Metropolitan Museum of Art have come up with a plan to open the “About Time: Fashion and Duration” at the museum in mid-October, but the timing of the Met Gala is still “under discussions.” I was really hoping this was going to be the first major cultural event in New York City to help the city move on from all of the crazy it has been under since the start of the COVID-19 outbreak. When the October date came out I really contemplated giving up on my wishes. All of the looks in these wishes will be out of date by then. We will have a whole new season of couture and ready-to-wear collections. But ultimately I decided that with a lack of events to actually write about right now that why not just put the fantasy out there. As Anna Wintour has said “I think if we don’t have fantasy in fashion, then fashion will never change.” So let’s keep fantasy going. Louis Vuitton is a presenting sponsor of the “About Time: Fashion and Duration” exhibition and with the brands creative director Nicolas Ghesquiere as one of the co-hosts of this years event I am sure that we will be seeing a whole slew of looks from the brand on the red carpet. Alicia Vikander has been one of the few only really successful brand ambassadors for Louis Vuitton. It would shock me if Alicia wore anyone other than Louis on this red carpet. Picking looks from the latest Louis Vuitton collection that could be Met Gala ready was really difficult. Ghesquiere didn’t send a single gown down the runway, so it was left to my imagination to create gowns based on the looks presented. I was very much drawn to this black reptile skin like paillette fabrication and definitely want to see Nicolas play with the idea for a custom gown for Alicia. I would use this fabrication to create a strapless bustier column gown using the intricate gold embroidery from the neckline of the sheer yoke of the runway look on the neckline of the gown. Keeping the runways leather belt, adding a sweeping train (though LV isn’t really known for putting trains on gowns), a pair of black Louis Vuitton ‘Madeleine’ platform crystal embellished logo buckle sandals, and a statement vintage Bulgari white diamond and emerald drop collar necklace would definitely make this a super successful Louis Vuitton moment on the red carpet. Cynthia Erivo always serves a major moment on the red carpet. It was actually on the Met Gala red carpet several years ago wearing a custom Coach gown where I first took note of Cynthia’s style. Watching her fashion evolution has been fantastic and I am praying to see her on the Met red carpet this year. When I was looking for the perfect person to wear this black and white Marc Jacobs Fall 2020 RTW ensemble I went back and forth on who I most wanted to see bring it to life. I went back and forth between picking this look for Cynthia and Lady Gaga, ultimately it was the fact that Gaga postponed her album release in this time of need for creative escape that I decided to pick it for Cynthia. Each woman would wear this gown differently, but I know in my soul that Cynthia would work this gown to its maximum potential. Cynthia knows how to handle drama and while this gown black velvet cap sleeve column gown isn’t dramatic the black and white ruffled silk-organza cape is. I could definitely picture Cynthia wearing this ensemble with her signature silver buzzed hair, smokey eyes, red glossy lips, a pair of black Rene Caovilla pointed toe pumps with silver crystal embellished crisscross straps, and statement David Webb ‘Asheville’ earrings set in 18K gold and platinum and features pear-shaped sapphires, circular-cut chrome tourmalines, pear-shaped cabochon turquoise, brilliant-cut diamonds, suspending oval and heart-shaped sapphire drops.Irina Shayk has never wowed me on the Met Gala red carpet. I know she has potential because she has owned red carpets all over the world with dramatic moments. She walked many runways this season, but the one that really stood out to me when I was picking Met Gala looks was Brandon Maxwell. While I hadn’t picked the gown she modeled to be on this red carpet I knew that she would be the perfect person to wear this ivory ensemble from the Brandon Maxwell Fall 2020 RTW ensemble which features a strapless cropped bralet bodice, a high waisted satin ball skirt, a sweeping train, and a silk chiffon tie-neck cape. The look is the definition of classic meet modern glamour. I really can imagine that Irina would definitely ensure this look oozes sex appeal, which definitely isn’t hard for her. Finishing this look with a sleek updo, defined eyes, red lips, a pair of ivory glitter Christian Louboutin ‘Degrastrass’ PVC and crystal embellished pointed toe pumps, and a pop of color via de Grisogono amethyst, tanzanite, and white diamond earclips would definitely make this look her best Met Gala moment ever. I’m honestly surprised that Madeline Brewer wasn’t invited to the Met Gala last year. The redheaded Handmaid’s Tale actress knows how to deliver chic fashion moments from coveted fashion labels like Brock Collection and Monse. So as I was looking for the perfect person to wear this powder blue Monique Lhuillier Fall 2020 RTW high low sleeveless gown which features a slim fit bodice, drop-waist silhouette, feather-lined hem, boat neckline, pleated skirt, and a dramatic train I turned to Madeline who was recently dressed my Monique Lhuillier for the 2020 SAG Awards. Now the train the gown was presented with in the lookbook is definitely dramatic enough for the Met Gala, but I would love to see it lengthened even more to really bring the drama. This look does bring the 60’s glamour vibes and I would definitely keep the vibes going with the styling with a sleek 60’s inspired updo, winged eyes, punchy pink lips, a silver Judith Leiber Couture ‘Soho’ silver snakeskin clutch with a crystal embellished clasp, a pair of nude satin Manolo Blahnik ‘Skysan’ crystal embellished mule sandals, and a selection of Butani diamonds including a pair of feathered cluster earrings with teardrops and a wreath band ring.I was so disappointed with the Moschino moment that Sarah Paulson wore on the Met Gala red carpet last year, so I am really excited to see what she might bring to the same steps this year. I would love to see her take a fashion risk giving this navy origami draped Loewe Fall 2020 RTW cap sleeve dress which features a white leather panel studded with rounded brass studs, but lengthened into a floor length gown. There are not many people who would be able to sell this look to me on the red carpet and I definitely believe that Sarah has the right effortless quirk to really make this look come to life. A side parted sleek bob tucked behind the ears, defined eyes, soft pink lips, a navy satin Tyler Ellis ‘Perry’ clutch, ivory Loewe ‘Flower’ kitten heel pearl embellished pointed toe pumps, and dazzling faceted lapis, sapphire, and white diamond Irene Neuwirth chandelier earrings would definitely ensure that this look screams elegant drama.

2020 Met Gala Red Carpet Wish List Part 4

jnbkAlright after a couple days of 6 looks a day I am now on 5 looks per wish list per day until I finish. All in there will be over 170 wishes for this years Met Gala red carpet. That number isn’t crazy. The Met Gala sees about 500 guests from the worlds of film, television, music, fashion, politics, theater, society, sports, and more. So the possibilities are pretty endless. In the documentary The First Monday In May Baz Luhrmann said “You can have an acting icon next to a musical icon, next to a political icon. It’s like an giant aquarium on that night.” Its so true and is one of the many reasons I love this red carpet. It really is the only space where all of these worlds collide on the red carpet. This set of wishes is wide spread it has a top model of the moment, a super hero, a Broadway vocal powerhouse, a teen scene TV princess, and a fashion icon.  I will never forget watching the Versace Fall 2018 RTW collection and seeing Adut Akech walk on the livestream and really noticing her. She has presence which is what really draws me to her. Now she has become the muse to Valentino creative director Pierpaolo Piccioli, but after bring his Met Gala date two years in a row I decided that I wanted to see Adut branch out. I had originally pulled a photo of Adut when I was picking her to wear a Valentino look, but then I saw this sand Schiaparelli Spring 2020 Couture one shoulder column gown which features a dramatic sculpted shoulder and I knew it would be a killer moment for Adut to bring on this red carpet. Now the look was sand on the runway and I do think Adut could sell the gown to me exactly as it was presented, but I would absolutely DIE to see her wear a this gown custom made for her in the signature Schiaparelli “Shocking Pink.” The color would just burst off of Adut making for a superb stand out statement. Her signature short hair, defined eyes, dark burgundy red glossy lips, a pair of matching shocking pink Christian Louboutin ‘Araborda Strass’ crystal embellished sling back peep toe d’orsay sandals, and a selection of Chopard Red Carpet Collection jewels including a pair of rubellite and white diamond cluster earrings and a statement white diamond and rubellite heart shaped cocktail ring would definitely ensure that Adut shuts down the red carpet at the 2020 Met Gala. Chadwick Boseman is a man with real style. He loves some fashion and isn’t afraid to take a risk on the red carpet. I knew going into my Met Gala wishes I wanted to include menswear to show how even though I think that classic glamour is what we are going to mostly see on this red carpet that men can still have fun with fashion and deliver some real wow moments on the red carpet. One of my favorite labels to see Chadwick wear on the red carpet is Givenchy so when I was looking for the perfect person to wear this Givenchy Fall 2019 Couture ensemble which features an intricate silver sequin embroidered coat, a silver sequined t-shirt, and skinny cropped pants I knew it had to be Chadwick. He would be able to sell this look to me with effortless ease and a whole lot of swagger. The look itself is such a statement that there really doesn’t need to be a whole lot of styling. Personally I would just add a pair of black sequined Christian Louboutin ‘Jolly Flat’ low heel ankle boots to really pull this look together perfectly. Idina Menzel is definitely known more for her powerhouse vocals than she is for red red carpet fashion. The star of stage and screen is definitely not one of the first people I think of when I think of Met Gala fashion, but I do believe that she could very well be on the red carpet this year. Her last Met Gaga moment in 2014 at the Charles James themed gala from Donna Karan Atelier would be PERFECT for this years theme, but instead I went with a more moody art deco princess vibe for Idina with this strapless black J. Mendel Fall 2020 RTW strapless ballgown which features a bondage-inspired silhouette, boning at bodice, a full circle skirt, and a dramatic train. This look screams classic glamour with a hint of subtle sex appeal and I think that is exactly what Idina needs to have a really major moment on this red carpet. Styling is where I tend to look Idina when she does pick good looks. I would love to see her style this gown with a romantic updo (nothing too curly or severe though), defined eyes, bold red lips, a black Jimmy Choo ‘Celeste’ velvet crystal clasp clutch, black lace trimmed Jimmy Choo ‘Sacora’ peep toe suede sandals, and a selection of Kwiat jewels including a pair of white diamond and black onyx ‘Vintage’ drop earrings in 18k white gold and a statement white diamond ‘Trellis’ cuff bracket in 18k white gold to really deliver head to toe perfection.Madelaine Petsch made her Met Gala red carpet debut last year in fairy couture thanks to Jean Paul Gaultier. The Riverdale actress is definitely one of the more high fashion members of the cast and I hope we see her on the red carpet at this years gala. I was looking for the perfect person to wear this strawberry pink Moschino Fall 2020 RTW gown which features a sweetheart neckline bustier, asymmetrical tulle sleeves, and a draped and pleated taffeta tiered skirt and I thought of the gorgeous redheaded actress and magic was made in my mind. This Moschino collection was inspired by Marie Antoinette and the infamous quote attached to her name: “Let Them Eat Cake.” I really want to see Madelaine really run with the idea of a modern Marie Antoinette to make this look a MAJOR moment on the red carpet. I would modify this gown just a little to add a really long dramatic train finishing the look with sleek beehive updo, thick winged eyes, dark dusty rose pink lips, a white and gold Judith Leiber Couture ‘Tall Slender Rectangle Garlands’ pink floral pattern clutch, a pair of fuchsia pink Jimmy Choo ‘Kate’ crystal embellished bow detail strappy sandals, and dazzling Anabela Chan ‘Fuchsia Sapphire Chandelier’ earrings set in 18k rose gold vermeil, with 18k gold earring posts, hand set with an array of laboratory-grown synthesized and simulated gemstones including pear-cut citrines and 3 fuchsia pink sapphire drops, with round brilliant cut white diamonds and pale pink sapphires. The final person in today’s wishes is a Met Gala and style icon. Sarah Jessica Parker has really become a style icon thanks to her iconic role as the most iconic New Yorker Carrie Bradshaw. While the character has been left to the annals of television and movie history she lives on in Sarah Jessica Parker’s everyday persona. I am really excited to see what SJP might be cooking up for this years gala after skipping the “Camp” themed gala last year. I can imagine that Sarah would definitely bring the drama on the red carpet at this years gala with the theme of “About Time: Fashion and Duration.” I decided to go with classic feminine elegance for SJP picking this ivory and black Carolina Herrera Fall 2020 RTW gown which features a solid black off the shoulder bodice with an empire waist and long sleeves and a full a-line skirt embroidered with a sketch of roses. As I was watching this show this was the first look I saw that really fell right into this years theme. A big dramatic updo (something SJP knows how to do), smokey eyes, soft pink lips, a pair of black ‘Carrie’ pointed toe strappy t-bar pumps from her own SJP by Sarah Jessica Parker shoe line, and a selection of layered antique necklaces from Fred Leighton including a green paste rivière, a pink topaz rivière, and a diamond and emerald drop necklace would all make sure that SJP truly meets the high expectations that she has set for her Met Gala moments.

2020 Met Gala Red Carpet Wish List Part 3

I finally finished picked all my wishes for this years Met Gala. This year with all the uncertainty in the world and a whole slew of event cancellations has allowed me to do A LOT of wishes for this years red carpet. Today is list number 3 and I have 30 more planned. It was not easy thing picking over 170 looks that I want to see brought to life on the Met Gala red carpet this year. I am always interested in seeing how stars will interpret the theme of the gala. I am interpreting “About Time: Fashion & Duration” as classic glamour. So that means on this red carpet I want to see a lot of super dramatic takes on glamour like the six gowns below. So enjoy today’s set of wishes and just stay tuned! Supermodel Adriana Lima always exudes sexy glamour on the red carpet even when she is giving us classic glamour. I am so excited to see what she will bring to the Met Gala red carpet this year. In the past I haven’t been in love with anything that Adriana has worn on this red carpet. To be honest I cannot even remember looks she’s worn at the Met before even though I know she’s been there. That all would change if she turned to one of my favorite New York designers Area to create a custom gown based on this silver Swarovski crystal embellished bodysuit which features a cable knit braided bodice, a plunging neckline, and fringe. I imagine that creating a gown out of this look would just be making sure the fringe is a little fuller and then brought all the way to the floor allowing for the bodysuit to be hidden and allowing for a whole lot of leg to be on display easily. This look would exude sensual glamour especially if styled with old Hollywood waves worn over one shoulder, thick winged eyeliner, bold red lips, silver Rene Caovilla ‘Celebrita’ crystal embellished satin ankle strap platform sandals, and then a selection of dazzling Chopard Red Carpet Collection jewels including a pair of statement emerald cut emerald drop earrings and a beautiful white diamond and emerald floral bracelet. Now this wish may surprise some people. When it comes to major red carpets we have come to expect Dakota Johnson to wear Gucci on the red carpet as she is the face of one of the brands fragrances. I do expect that we will see Dakota wearing some sort of custom gown from Gucci. That being said, as I was picking gowns for this red carpet I thought putting Dakota in some skin tight Saint Laurent PVC would be the perfect idea for her to bring to life on this red carpet. This black Saint Laurent Fall 2020 RTW calf length dress which features thin straps, a sweetheart neckline, and a flared hem is super classic in its design, but it is made modern with the PVC fabrication. Now I would customize the look by lengthening the hem to skim the floor, adding a train, and then having it customized in the wine colored PVC that was used in another look from this same collection. To make this look 100% perfect I would finish the look with a sleek side parted updo, smokey eyes, soft pink lips, a pair of gold Saint Laurent metallic leather platform ankle strap sandals, and a super statement vintage 18k gold set Bulgari High Jewelry from 1965 made up pf amethysts, emeralds, turquoises, and white diamonds to really ensure that Dakota delivers a sexy, modern take on classic glamour on the Met Gala red carpet. In the case of including H.E.R. in my wishes for the 2020 Met Gala it was definitely a case of the gown choosing the wearer. I first learned who H.E.R. was at the amfAR Gala at the Cannes Film Festival last year when she walked the red carpet announcing the Giambattista Valli x H&M collaboration wearing one of the looks from the early release of the collection. Since then I have loved watching her on the red carpet. She always brings edge and soul to the red carpet. So I was thinking of who would be the perfect person to bring this cherry red chiffon and watermelon pink silk taffeta Giambattista Valli Spring 2020 Couture strapless gown which features a goddess draped gown and a dramatic bow detailed cape I knew that it fit perfectly with H.E.R.’s sense of style. I really do think that she would really be able to make this super dramatic and statement making moment come to life on the Met Gala red carpet with effortless ease especially if styled with a big curly updo, defined eyes behind pink round sunglasses (one of her signatures), bold red lips, a pair of red velvet Giuseppe Zanotti platform chunky heel sandals, and statement Chopard Red Carpet Collection ‘Good Luck Charm’ ruby tassel drop earrings. Pop Diva Kim Petras has never attended a Met Gala but I feel like her cult following just might allow her to gain an invite to this years Met Gala. I decided to include her in these wishes when I was looking at some super Jean Paul Gaultier Couture moments I want to see on this red carpet. When I was trying to think of the perfect person to bring this nude pink Jean Paul Gaultier Spring 2020 Couture ball gown which is lingerie inspired with a high low tiered tulle hoop skirt I thought of Kim and couldn’t shake the idea of her wearing this gown from my head and now here we are. Given the fact that Gaultier has announced that he is retiring and that this was his final collection I will be really interested in seeing who the label puts on the Met Gala red carpet, if anyone. Gaultier has dressed everyone from established stars like Madonna and Alicia Keys to more up and coming stars like Charli XCX and Madelaine Petsch on the Met Gala red carpet so imagining the label taking Kim Petras is definitely not out of the realm of possibility. This look would be super cool with a sleek high bun updo with bangs, thick winged eyes, soft nude lips, a pair of dazzling champagne crystal mesh Rene Caovilla ‘Galaxia’ peep toe bootie sandals, and a pop of color via Anabela Chan ‘Pink Feather’ cocktail earrings in 18k gold and black gold vermeil with hand-set laboratory-grown synthesised and simulated gemstones including two stunning solitaire pear-cut pink tourmalines and 216 pavé-set sapphires, diamonds and amethysts.  Naomi Watts is no stranger to the Met Gala red carpet. Over the years we have seen Naomi grace the famed Met steps wearing looks from a bevy of different labels including Michael Kors, Burberry, Givenchy Couture, Mugler, and Stella McCartney. The theme ‘About Time’ is right up her alley. Naomi delvers old Hollywood glamour on the red carpet with ease and I definitely want to see her bring it to this years Met red carpet. I think that she would do it with great aplomb wearing this midnight blue and red Armani Prive Spring 2020 Couture strapless a-line gown which features a fully beaded bodice, a beaded watercolor pattern layered tulle skirt, and a sweeping train. This gown is definitely a signature look from Armani Prive and I feel like with the right styling that this has the potential to be one of the best looks of the night. A sleek vintage inspired updo, defined eyes, bold red lips, a midnight blue Judith Leiber Couture ‘Galaxy Crescent Moon’ tasseled crystal embellished minaudiere, a pair of midnight blue crystal embellished Gianvito Rossi ankle strap sandals, and simple yet dazzling Bulgari sapphire and white diamond drop earrings would definitely make this a major glam moment for Naomi. Closing out today’s wishes is the gorgeous Uma Thurman. I was able to watch the Marc Jacobs Fall 2020 RTW show live from the comfort of my bed in my fuzzy jammies. When I saw this salmon pink silk faille ensemble which consists of a dramatic opera coat which features wide lapels, three quarter length sleeves and a sweeping train and a matching empire waist a-line gown which features a rounded neckline, thin straps, and a small bow detail come down the runway I knew immediately it would be a perfect Met Gala moment and I know that Uma Thurman could really sell this 60’s inspired fashion moment to me. The look is very much inspired by the 60’s heyday of Cristobal Balenciaga. It shows how his legacy has endured the test of time and to me that fits the theme of “About Time: Fashion and Duration” perfectly. For the Met Gala red carpet I would go full 60’s with the styling with a sleek bun updo, defined eyes, soft pink lips, a pair of matching salmon pink Roger Vivier sculpted heel pointed toe pumps, and a coral bead Chopard Red Carpet Collection strand necklace with those coral bead encased in a delicate cage of white diamonds and rubellites. I know this would all ensure that Uma OWNS this red carpet.

2020 Met Gala Red Carpet Wish List Part 2

Today I am continuing right along with my wishes for the 2020 Met Gala even though we do not have a date for when it will take place yet. With the theme of “About Time: Fashion and Duration” I am expecting a red carpet that hearkens back more to 2009 “Model As Muse” or 2010 “American Woman: Fashioning A National Identity” which delivered a red carpet that embodies more of a sense of drama and glamour than they did to some of the more specific themes like “Punk: Chaos to Couture”, “China: Through The Looking Glass”, and “Camp: Notes on Fashion.” To be on theme this year to me will be easier than ever. I imagine that a lot of looks will evoke the very glamorous vibe of old Hollywood glamour. So I started looking through the collections and saved over 600+ looks that I thought would be the perfect match for this red carpet, and then started picking the perfect stars to bring the gowns to like on the red carpet. French actress Adele Exarchopoulos has made a turn or two on the Met Gala red carpet in the past, but she was the first person to come to mind when I was trying to think of the perfect person to bring this blush pink Fendi Fall 2020 RTW dress to life on the Met Gala red carpet. I fell in LOVE with this dress the moment it came down the runway and I definitely think that it would be a perfect Met Gala moment. This look takes ideas from Victorian glamour, lingerie sensuality, and flapper beading and meshes them into a perfect fashion moment. I would love to see Silvia Fendi take this ensemble and length it into a column gown for Adele to wear on the Met Gala red carpet. The look would exude sensual femininity in a super dramatic way. While most looks for the Met Gala I am hoping for a train I think that the full organza sleeves of this gown add enough drama on their own. A sleek updo, defined eyes, burgundy lips, a pair of nude Fendi ‘Ffreedom’ bow detail sculpted heel slingback sandals, and simple pink and white diamond Chopard Red Carpet Collection teardrop earrings would give Adele a perfect Met Gala moment.Coco Rocha knows how to deliver DRAMA on the red carpet, so when I was thinking of who could really showcase this canary yellow Alexandre Vauthier Spring 2020 Couture strapless ballgown which features a full skirt, ankle length, and all over tired ruffles Coco immediately came to mind. On the Met steps in the past Coco has dazzled in designs from Zac Posen, McQueen, and Ungaro in the past. It has also been a hot second since we have seen Coco on the Met Gala red carpet and I can definitely imagine her twirling up the steps working this gown to its maximum potential especially if styled with a sleek high bun, thick winged eyes, soft rose pink lips, a pair of dazzling nude crystal embellished Jimmy Choo ‘Sacora’ ankle strap peep toe sandals, and white diamond Harry Kotlar leaf inspired cluster earrings. Gugu Mbatha Raw has been a Met Gala guest several times and since she has not seemed to slow as of late I am really excited to see what she and her stylist Cristina Ehrlich are cooking up for this years gala. I decided to go a very 50’s glam route for Gugu. We typically see one or two custom Emilia Wickstead moments on the Met Gala red carpet so I optioned a few looks and when I thought of Gugu wearing this gown customized to hit the floor I knew there was a real possibility in this look. The super glam of the snakeskin embossed metallic brocade infuses a touch of modernity into this classic gown. Making this a floor skimming gown would definitely ensure that this look is beautiful especially if styled with a curly updo, defined eyes, deep crimson red lips, a pair of gold crystal embellished Rene Caovilla strappy sandals, and a statement Buccellati collar necklace in silver and yellow gold with pearls and rose-cut diamonds.Kiki Layne burst onto the fashion scene about a year and a half ago with her performance in If Beale Street Could Talk. She has two projects slated for release this year including the much anticipated Coming 2 America. So after a stellar showing last year at the 2019 Met Gala wearing custom Gucci I am hoping to see her back on the red carpet this year. She can have her pick of designers to dress her for the Met Gala, but I was thinking of this soft butter yellow Chloe Fall 2020 RTW moment since I first saw it on the runway. This gown does not immediately scream Met Gala, but I would imagine that modifying this gown to have a dramatic train that it would be dramatic enough for the Met Gala red carpet. When it comes down to it the easy going, bohemian vibe of Chloe just doesn’t fit into the classic glam vibe I feel we are going to see on this red carpet, but overall the bohemian aesthetic has endured and deserves to be spotlighted as well and well Chloe usually dresses at least one star for the Met and the look is typically not on theme. Just on brand. This gown is definitely on brand and I can imagine that Kiki would ensure that it is showcased to its full potential. I think that with a creative updo, defined eyes, nude lips, simple gold crystal embellished Gianvito Rossi ‘Montecarlo’ ankle strap sandals, and a pair of vintage 18k gold set Bulgari High Jewelry white diamond, emerald, and sapphire leaf earclips that this look would definitely be a really light and airy moment for Kiki to bring to life on this red carpet.  Naomi Campbell was another one who I immediately when I saw a look come down the runway that I had found the perfect Met Gala moment for her. This silver mirrored midi gown which features a structured neckline, fitted silhouette, long sleeves, and crystal fringe closed the Burberry Fall 2020 RTW show. The first video hit Instagram and when I saw this sparkling design walk I knew it was perfect for the Met Gala and that Naomi would be the perfect person to bring the gown to life. I would want to see this dress lengthened into a floor length gown for Naomi to really bring the dazzle to the Met steps. A sleek center parted hairstyle, defined eyes, bold lips, and a pair of silver Burberry ‘Kiltie’ crystal embellished pointed toe pumps would definitely all make this one of Naomi’s best red carpet moments ever. When I picked this navy and black Jonathan Cohen Fall 2020 RTW cap sleeve a-line dress which features velvet sleeves and hem and intricate white floral embroidery for Tina Fey in my New York Fashion Week Fall 2020 wishes I didn’t have any intention of choosing it to be a Met Gala pick. I was going through the collections picking the looks I felt best fit this years theme I thought this dress would be perfect. I really do believe that it would be quite the chic and glamorous moment for Tina to wear on this red carpet modified to be a full length gown. Now this gown would scream glamour, but I would also add navy satin waistband to make sure that Tina’s waist is cinched. To really make sure the glamor is exuded from top to toe I would style this gown with a sleek updo, defined eyes, soft pink lips, a pair of midnight blue satin Gianvito Rossi ‘Loren’ chunky heel ankle strap sandals, and simple yet dazzling Cartier High Jewelry white diamond and sapphire drop earrings.

2020 Met Gala Red Carpet Wish List Part 1

So in light of everything going on I decided that even though the 2020 Met Gala has been postponed due to the COVID-19 crisis. I debated how I wanted to proceed. Ultimately I decided that once the curve of this pandemic has been flattened and events that have been postponed and the new dates for all the postponed events that the Met is going to be the one that I can plan ahead for. 2020 is a milestone for the Metropolitan Museum of Art. The New York institution will celebrate its 150th anniversary. The Costume Institute’s exhibition, which serves as the theme for the Met Gala, will showcase a century-and-a-half of fashion history culled from its archive and presented along a “disruptive” timeline entitled “About Time: Fashion and Duration.” So without skipping a beat here we go diving right into my 2020 Met Gala wishes. The Met Gala is also known as Anna Wintour’s party. When it comes to the red carpet at the Met Gala I am always excited to see what Anna will wear to kick off the night. She almost always turns to the ateliers of Chanel to create the perfect custom gown for her to bring to life on this red carpet. One difference about this year is that Karl Lagerfeld didn’t design the latest couture from the label. I went looking at the Chanel Spring 2020 Couture collection looking for the perfect look for Anna to wear on this red carpet, but there wasn’t a single look as it was that I feel is perfect for Anna to wear on this red carpet. There wasn’t even anything remotely close, but that being said I was able to start picturing pulling details from this and the cape from that. So let me take you on the journey my mind went on at 3am as I was trying to cultivate the perfect ensemble for Anna to bring to life. It honestly all started with the ivory ruffled cape from the Chanel Spring 2020 Couture collection. It was really the only formal thing from the collection that screams Anna. I would modify the cape to be long with a train for Anna to deliver DRAMA on the Met Gala red carpet. So I started thinking of how I would be able to make this look “ANNA.” I immediately said a cap sleeve column gown like Karl Lagerfeld sent down the runway in the Chanel Spring 2011 Couture collection. Shape is perfect for Anna, but I would have current Chanel creative director Virginie Viard whip up a custom cap sleeve column gown in the grey geometric floral embroidery seen on the a-line skirt of a look that she sent down the runway in the Spring 2020 Couture collection. I would also keep the sequined waistband from that look. Paring the custom gown with the customized cape and adding a pair of black Manolo Blahnik ‘Nadira’ pointed toe jeweled satin pumps and Anna’s signature Gregorian Riviere necklaces would definitely make this look ready for this years Met Gala red carpet. Emma Stone is one of the Co-Chairs of this years Met Gala along with Louis Vuitton creative director Nicholas Ghesquiere, Lin Manuel Miranda, and the icon that is Meryl Streep. Given the fact that Emma is a face of Louis Vuitton and is Co-Hosting with Nicholas I can imagine that we will definitely see Emma wearing LV on the Met Gala red carpet. Given the theme of “About Time” I think we are bound to see a lot of very chic classic inspired moments on this red carpet. As regular readers will note I am not a huge fan of Louis Vuitton on the red carpet and I am hoping that they will only be dressing a minimal amount of stars. So with all that in mind I would love to see Nicholas customize this black and grey sequin and micro beaded thistle print Louis Vuitton Fall 2020 RTW pencil dress which features a wide cut neckline, thin straps, and a black leather belt into a floor length gown for Emma. It is a very simple silhouette and while I might want to see a gown paired with a dramatic train that isn’t really the LV aesthetic. It has been a long time since I’ve fallen in love with one of Emma’s red carpet looks but I think that if paired with old Hollywood waves, winged eyes, red lips, a pair of black Christian Louboutin ‘Very Cathy’ ankle strap peep toe d’orsay platform sandals, and Louis Vuitton white diamond and emerald art deco drop earrings that Emma would definitely have one of her best red carpet moments in a while. It has been a hot minute since Brie Larson has last walked a Met Gala red carpet and I am ready to see her back on the famed red carpeted steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art for this years Met Gala, when it finally happens. Brie has never delivered a real drama moment on the Met Gala red carpet in the past. Everything in her history has been pants and tea length on this red carpet. At first glance seeing this silver Swarovski crystal embellished Christopher Kane Fall 2020 RTW tea length gown which features thick straps, a bow detail on the neck, side cutouts, and a pleated a-line skirt it would seem that I am looking for Brie to have another tea length moment. That is not the case. I would actually love to see Brie have this look customized to be floor length gown that has a sweeping train. The Met is all about trains because of those famous steps. The looks on this red carpet are photographed from all angles so it is important to be perfectly on point from top to toe and 360°. This dress turned into a gown could seriously turn into a major moment for Brie. I think that this gown gives us the classic glam I think we can expect to see a lot of on this red carpet, but in a very modern manner. A sleek updo, defined eyes, dark pink lips, silver Aquazzura ‘Nudist’ metallic leather and PVC strappy sandals, and a pair of white diamond and emerald Cartier High Jewelry cluster earrings would definitely ensure that Brie delivers on the Met steps. Kate Bosworth always knows how to deliver super glamorous moments on the red carpet. In fact the silver and black Ralph & Russo Couture gown she wore at the Vanity Fair Oscar Party earlier this year was actually on my radar to be a Met Gala gown. When picking looks for the Met Gala red carpet I do things a little differently than most red carpets I create wish lists for. I let the clothes pick the wearer. I compile a file on my laptop with literally hundreds of runway and lookbook moments that I think fit the theme and then figure out the perfect people to bring them to life. Case and point this black velvet Fendi Fall 2020 RTW cocktail dress which features a pointed bustier bodice, lace mesh, and a layered a-line skirt. I knew the moment I saw this look come down the runway that it would be the perfect inspiration for the Met Gala red carpet. I would imagine that if we saw this look on the Met red carpet that it would have to be customized into a gown with a column underskirt, the overskirt lengthened into a one with a sweeping train, and swapping the nude lining of the gown for either a bold pop of color or pattern to inject a little bit of fun into this super glamorous gown. A sleek vintage inspired bun updo, defined eyes, red lips, a black velvet Judith Leiber Couture ‘Soho’ clutch, a pair of black Roger Vivier ‘Marlene’ strass ball detail ankle strap sandals, and a selection of dazzling Harry Winston diamonds including a pair of vintage white diamond floral fringe earrings and a white diamond ‘Bijou’ bracelet would ensure Kate is able to ooze glamour from head to toe. Rihanna has skipped the Met Gala the last two years and I am just praying to the gods of fashion that she will attend this years event. When it comes to the Met Rihanna knows how to deliver perfect on theme moments. With the theme being more about the duration of fashion I decided that I just wanted to go for drama. So I went to the mint to peacock feather embellished Givenchy Fall 2019 Couture cape. I’ve been in love with this cape ensemble since it was first presented on the runway last July and been waiting for the perfect person to bring it to life on the red carpet. I definitely think that Rihanna has the presence to really bring a gown like this to life on the red carpet and not get lost in it. Style it with a sleek updo, defined eyes, matte nude lips, a pair of black opera gloves, maybe a custom FENTY gown underneath, a pair of black FENTY ‘Cowgirl Hookup’ strappy crystal embellished suede sandals, and silver FENTY ‘Side Eye’ Swarovski crystal embellished sunglasses to ensure that Rihanna owns the red carpet.
