2021 Critics Choice Awards Red Carpet Wish List Part 7

Check out all these looks I would have loved to see on a red carpet at a regular Critics Choice Awards. The wishes below are a mix of nominees, presenters, and members of productions that are nominated. I am missing all the glamour and drama of awards season, but I am hoping that there are going to be some major fashion moments tonight.

The 2021 Critics Choice Awards will take place on Sunday March 7, 2021. You can find all of my wishes for this red carpet here.

2020 Cannes Film Festival What Could Have Been Wish List: “The Story Of My Wife”

Hungarian director Ildiko Enyedi’s The Story Of My Wife held Cannes promise, in part thanks to its French cast members Lea Seydoux and Louis Garrel. The Cannes habitués star alongside Dutch actor Gijs Naber in this adaptation of Marin Fust’s eponymous 1942 literary classic about a Dutch sea captain obsessed with the idea that his flirtatious French wife has been unfaithful. Enyedi, who won Berlin’s Golden Bear for On Body And Soul in 2017, last screened a film at Cannes some 30 years ago when she won the Caméra d’Or for My 20th Century. So with the push for a more balanced selection of male and female directors I would have loved to see The Story of My Wife screen at this years festival. Lea Seydoux has been in Cannes screening films, winning awards, and serving on the jury for almost two decades now. The French actress has always been one who has intrigued me on the red carpet. While I complain often about Louis Vuitton ambassadors and there red carpet looks I have to admit that Lea is one of the more successful spokemodels for the French luxury label. That being said I still didn’t pick two head to toe Louis Vuitton looks for Lea to wear to promote The Story of My Wife. Instead for the photocall I picked this cream Lanvin Fall 2020 RTW dress which gives modern 20’s meets 70’s vibes. The dress features a thin brand signature print throughout, intricate beading on the bodice and neck, long poet sleeves with ruffled cuffs, a drop waist, and tiered pleated mini skirt and I think Lea would make it an effortlessly glamorous moment for a Cannes Film Festival photocall. Soft retro waves, defined eyes, bright pink lips, and a pair of black Louis Vuitton ‘Call Back’ ankle strap pointed toe leather pumps would definitely make this a superb fashion moment for Lea. Now for the premiere I went for sleek sexy glamour with a custom Louis Vuitton long sleeve column inspired by this white and black bustier detail dress. The dress found in the LV online shop is super sexy despite the fact it is completely covered. Taking this mock neck dress with a long zipper down the back and making it into a custom gown completely covered in liquid sequins would definitely make this a major modern moment for Lea especially styled with a sleek side parted low bun updo, defined eyes, bold red lips, a pair of white leather Louis Vuitton ‘Call Back’ ankle strap sandals, and a pop of color and femininity via Chopard Red Carpet Collection 2020 “Orchids” drop earrings earrings set with natural-looking sapphire petals and tsavorite buds reveal four black cabochon-cut opals. My second wish for Aja Naomi King following the major Nicolas Jebran gown I picked the other day is all about COLOR. I have been obsessed with this sunset orange Zuhair Murad Fall 2019 Couture draped gown which features an asymmetrical one shoulder neckline, ostrich feather trim, and a cape since it was first presented. Orange isn’t a color we often see on the red carpet which would have made this a super special moment for Aja to bring to life in Cannes. I wanted to really make sure that the looks I’ve picked for Aja screamed glamour, but in a new major manner. I would love to this gown styled with a sleek updo, smokey eyes, nude pink lips, a pair of simple orange Jimmy Choo ‘Minny’ ankle strap sandals, and the sunset in earrings via sleek Chopard ruby, yellow sapphire, and diamond wreath earrings. It definitely would have made sure that Aja delivered nothing but bold, statement glamour in Cannes. I’ve mentioned that I always appreciate that Liya Kebede goes left of traditional for her red carpet looks. I would have loved seeing Liya give relaxed glamour wearing this black silk draped Stella McCartney Fall 2020 loose fit pajama set which features a cowl neck, oversized cuffs, crystal beaded appliques throughout, a paper bag waist, and wide leg trousers. There really isn’t anyone but Liya who I would even remotely think would be able to make this look work on the Cannes red carpet. With all that fabric work really has to be put in to be seen through all the yardage and I know that Liya would rock this look effortlessly. Her signature washed and dried vibe curls, barely there makeup, black Aquazzura ‘Panthere’ pointed toe cutout t-bar ankle strap pumps, and a pair of edgy glam Chopard Loves Rihanna Collection white diamond earcuffs would definitely have ensured Liya just oozed effortless glamour. I also went left of traditional Cannes gowns for Korean supermodel Soo Joo Park. The model loves to bring the unexpected to the red carpet. As I was looking for something for her to wear in Cannes to promote L’Oreal this year I saw this black silk faille Oscar de la Renta Fall 2020 RTW cocktail dress which features an asymmetrical one shoulder neckline, intricate voluminous origami draping, an asymmetrical hem, and exposed corsetry and I just thought of how cool a moment it would be. To pull off a cocktail dress as a major moment on the Cannes Film Festival red carpet you have to just ooze cool girl glam and I really do believe that Soo Joo has that vibe. To make this look major from head to toe I would style this look with a sleek center parted updo, smokey winged eyes, deep ruby red lips, a pair of black chiffon and satin Giuseppe Zanotti ‘Etoile’ big bow and crystal detail ankle strap sandals, and a selection of Messika High Jewelry including ‘Sirenetta’ asymmetrical white diamond pendant fringe earrings and a statement ‘Shirin’ white diamond art deco inspired cuff bracelet.

2020 Cannes Film Festival What Could Have Been Wish List: “Pieces of a Woman”

Awards Daily had Hungarian director Kornel Mundruczó’s next film Pieces of a Woman as a probable contender for this years Cannes Film Festival. Mundruczó made his Cannes debut in 2018 with Jupiter’s Moon. Pieces of a Woman stars Shia LeBeouf and Vanessa Kirby in a story about a grieving woman embarks on an emotional journey after the loss of her baby. The last time Shia LeBeouf was in Cannes was in 2016 when he joined director Andrea Arnold and co-stars Sasha Lane and Riley Keough for the premiere of American Honey. I don’t know exactly what is is that made me want to include Shia in these wishes, but here we are. When it comes to style Shia is very much a norm-core dude. He doesn’t really take risks when it comes to style and I wouldn’t expect him to start. So I picked to super chic looks for him to wear at this years festival that are super chic classic menswear moments starting with a Todd Snyder Spring 2020 Menswear ensemble for the photocall which consists of a rust silk bowling shirt with contrast detail on the collar and pockets, a black wife beater, and a pair of blush pink chinos. Like I said super simple and casual, but just the right amount of flare for Cannes without it pushing Shia out of his comfort zone. I would finish the photocall look with a pair of rusty brown Giuseppe Zanotti ‘Jimi Running’ crocodile embossed leather trainers and gold rimmed Tom Ford ‘Andes’ aviator sunglasses. For the premiere I went with perfectly tailored classic with this black Amiri Fall 2020 Menswear double breasted tuxedo which feature ribbon trimming on peak lapels and a skinny fit. This tux is super classic again with just the right touches to make it elevated without being out of Shia’s comfort zone. The black shirt that the look was paired with on the runway, a skinny black silk tie, and a pair of classic black leather Giuseppe Zanotti ‘Roger’ lace-ups would definitely add the perfect finishing touches to this look. With three films rumored to have been submitted for the 2020 Cannes Film Festival it sounded like Vanessa Kirby was set to make her Croisette debut this year. I go back and forth when it comes to Vanessa’s style. I know she has potential, but often times she leaves me wanting more. When it comes to Cannes that can’t happen, so as I was putting my wishes together for Vanessa I knew I needed to make sure that everything screamed perfection. So to promote Pieces of a Woman I picked to super glam moments for Vanessa starting with the lavender silk Alessandra Rich Fall 2020 RTW polka dotted dress which features long blouson sleeves, a deep v-neck, tiered peplum detail on the hips, a pencil skirt, gold crystal buttons. The wide cream leather belt with gold chain detail definitely makes this dress. Now I would ditch the clunky necklace the dress was styled with on the runway instead opting to let the belt be the focus of the look adding a sleek center parted hairstyle, defined eyes, punchy pink lips, and a pair of lavender suede Gianvito Rossi cross over strap chunky heel platform sandals. Now for the premiere I went super glamorous for Vanessa picking this Alexander Resort 2020 gown which features an intricate crystal embellished bustier bodice and a pleated white chiffon skirt. Now there are some slight modifications to this gown I would make to make it perfect for a Cannes Film Festival debut. First up I would chop those thin ribbon straps off making this a strapless gown and then adding a dramatic train to ensure this look just screams glamour. I would make sure this look is perfection with a sleek updo, defined eyes, soft pink lips, a pair of white Gianvito Rossi embellished ankle strap sandals, and simple yet glamorous vintage emerald and white diamond Bulgari stud earrings.Honestly I almost forgot that Aja Naomi King was a L’Orealista until I was looking at last years festival and saw the Zac Posen gown she wore. I have been praying for Aja to really wow me and it was earlier this year in fuschia silk charmuse Nicholas Jebran Couture at the Vanity Fair Oscar Party when those prayers were answered. It was easily her best red carpet moment ever, and it made me hopeful for what we would see her bring to life in Cannes this year. I turned back to Nicholas Jebran for my first wish to see Aja wear in Cannes this year had it happened with this midnight blue velvet gown which features a high bodice, slashed detail on the neck, thin straps, an hourglass silhouette, thigh high split, mermaid hem, and a dramatic train from the designers Fall 2019 Couture collection. When I started looking for the perfect gowns for Aja the moment I saw this one I knew that I had found the perfect look. It is a meshing of classic Hollywood glamour and modern elegance and I can feel it in my bones that Aja would have owned the red carpet in this look. I think that had she worn this gown with a sleek twisted retro updo, defined eyes, bold red lips, a pair of black Giuseppe Zanotti asymmetrical ankle strap crystal embellished sandals, and beautiful Chopard Red Carpet Collection white diamond, paraiba tourmaline, amethyst, and tanzanite disc earrings that this would have definitely been a dazzling moment for her to bring to life. Brazilian actress Bruna Marquezine regularly jets to the Cannes Film Festival to walk the red carpet and add some glamour. I definitely wanted to see her do so again this year. To make for the perfect moment for Bruna to bring to life on the red carpet at the the Palais de Festivals I dug into the Elie Saab archives picking this emerald green strapless ballgown which features a dramatic sweetheart neckline, a thin defined waist, intricate crystal embroidery, and a sweeping train from the labels Fall 2013 Couture collection. This has long been one of my favorite Elie Saab Couture collections and there are just a couple of looks from this collection which haven’t been worn on the red carpet that I am dying to see brought to life. This is one of them. I think that Bruna could definitely bring this look to life with a sleek retro half up/half down hairstyle, defined eyes, red lips, a emerald satin DSquared2 strappy sandals, and a selection of Chopard Red Carpet Collection 2018 jewels including a pair of statement ‘Temple of Heaven’ earrings with emeralds, sapphires and diamonds and a matching ‘Temple of Heaven’ cuff bracelet. It would all make sure that this gown is finally given the major red carpet moment it deserves. When it comes to models I always expect the something left of normal from Liya Kebede. The Ethiopian supermodel has rocked the Cannes Film Festival red carpet over the years in edgy looks from Proenza Schouler, Roberto Cavalli, Haider Ackermann, Louis Vuitton, Paco Rabanne, Valentino, and more. Usually she picks cocktail ensembles. For this years festival I really wanted to see Liya step out on the red carpet at the Palais wearing this black Germanier Fall 2020 RTW suit which features an asymmetrical blazer with intricate crystal embellishment and feathers on the shoulders and cuff paired with slim fit pants that continue the crystal embellishments down one leg. What I love about Germanier, a new find to me after seeing a dress on Kristen Stewart last fall and then seeing this Fall 2020 RTW collection on ModaOperandi, is that he works sustainably in his designs. So to me that is a double win. I think that Liya would have easily brought this look to life on the Cannes Film Festival red carpet. The suit itself is such a statement on its own I wouldn’t over-style the look, which I wouldn’t expect Liya to do. So I would finish this look with a loose updo, defined eyes, nude lips, a pair of black Francesco Russo t-bar chain detail leather sandals, and simple Atelier Swarovski ‘Lola’ ruby drop earrings to ensure this would have been a major moment for Liya to deliver on the Cannes Film Festival red carpet.

2020 Met Gala Red Carpet Wish List Part 30

The looks in today’s set of wishes are major. I always say the answer to picking the perfect Met Gala fashion moment is go big or go home. That is exactly what I did when picking the looks for Aja Naomi King, Naomi Scott, Lucy Liu, and Rowan Blanchard; oh and there is a super chic white tie moment for Henry Golding. Each of these looks is perfectly indicative of each label and all would be superb moments to see on this years red carpet. Aja Naomi King made her Met Gala debut in 2016, but hasn’t been on the red carpet since. Now she is a L’Oreal Paris spokesmodel and I feel like it’s about time she got her second appearance on the famed Met steps. What kills me about Aja on the red carpet is the fact that I know she has so much potential, but rarely lives up to it. For this years Met Gala red carpet I want to see Aja turn to Christopher John Rogers. I really want to see the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund winner deliver major moments on the Met steps this year. For Aja I would love to see Christopher create a custom gown that is a hybrid of two looks from the Christopher John Rogers Fall 2020 RTW collection. Taking the red lamé asymmetrical peplum cocktail dress which features a plunging neckline and layering it over the black and silver crystal embellished column skirt from the strapless column gown. Each look on their own isn’t right for the Met Gala red carpet, but combined I know this look would be superb. A chignon afro puff updo, smokey eyes with a hint of emerald, dark rose pink lips, a pair of black Stuart Weitzman ‘Nudistsong Stardust’ crystal embellished ankle strap sandals, and statement Amrapali emerald and white diamond teardrop pendant earrings would definitely make this a major moment for Aja to wear on the Met Gala red carpet. Henry Golding was introduced to us about 2 year ago now when he stared in the hit film Crazy Rich Asians back to back with the Blake Lively/Anna Kendrick drama A Simple Favor. He made his Met Gala red carpet debut last year taking a risk in custom Atelier Versace. It was a risk that almost paid off. I appreciate that Henry is willing to take some risks with fashion, but for this years Met Gala I decided I wanted to see him bring perfect classic glamour to this red carpet. This classic cut white tie Ralph Lauren Fall 2020 Menswear tailcoat tuxedo is the epitome of timeless elegance for menswear and when fitted perfectly the looks are one to take notice of. I definitely believe that Ralph would make sure this look is perfectly tailored for Henry. Now I would just add a pair of black Christian Louboutin ‘Greggo Orlatio’ paillette sequin embellished oxfords to add a subtle hint of dazzle to this look. Over the years Lucy Liu has only walked 2 Met Gala red carpets. That honestly surprises me as she is quite the fashionista. While we don’t see Lucy on the red carpets often when she does the looks are always top notch. In fact she has one of my favorite Met Gala red carpet moments ever thanks to the purple ruffled Zac Posen gown she wore in 2007. I would love to see her attend this year as a guest of Christian Siriano. Lucy wore Siriano for the Tony Awards last year and was seated front row at his Spring 2020 RTW show last September. Never one to shy away from drama for the red carpet I thought Lucy would be the perfect person to wear this crocodile skin pattern embroidered velvet ensemble from the Christian Siriano Fall 2020 RTW collection which includes a structured high neck capelet and a strapless corseted ball gown. The look is distinctly Siriano and a modern, edgy twist on the classic ballgown. It really do think that while Lucy is quite petite that she has the presence to make this look come to life on the red carpet. While the matching hat is quite interesting for the runway I would have Lucy ditch it for the red carpet instead opting to style the gown with a sleek side parted updo, thick defined eyes, bold red lips, black glitter Christian Louboutin ‘Renee’ strappy leather sandals, and a pair of statement David Webb ‘Asheville’ earclips made in cabochon turquoise, brilliant-cut diamonds, 18K gold, and platinum. This would definitely make for a statement making moment for Lucy to wear for her Met Gala return. Naomi Scott made her Met Gala debut last year ahead of her major promo tour for Aladdin. She wore a cool Burberry crystal chain and feather embellished tunic and sleek tailored pants. It was definitely one of the cooler looks of the evening, but when there were so many major gowns it faded into the masses. I don’t want that to happen to her this year. So I turned to the illustrious Richard Quinn, who is known for making dramatic moments happen. He dressed Naomi in black latex and blue floral jacquard for the Charlies Angels premiere in London last fall and for this years Met Gala I went back to his Spring 2019 RTW collection to seek inspiration for the perfect gown for Naomi to wear. I would love to see Naomi give us modern flapper vibes wearing a custom gown inspired by this ice blue silk cocktail dress which features silver beaded embroidery and black feather embellishments. Now picture it with me. Taking this dress and lengthening it to hit the floor with the feather embellishments on silk strips made to add a dramatic train to this gown would definitely make sure that Naomi delivers the drama on the red carpet. I would love to see Naomi take this custom gown and go full flapper with it styling the gown with a fingerwave updo, defined eyes, pink lips, a pair of black Nicholas Kirkwood ‘Monstera’ crystal embellished leaf sandals, and vintage 1930’s white diamond Bulgari art deco chandelier earrings. Rowan Blanchard has now hit the 18 year age requirement to attend the Met Gala. I have wanted to see the actress own this red carpet for a while. She isn’t afraid to take sartorial risks and I know that she would own this red carpet. I have been imagining her wearing this Schiaparelli Spring 2020 Couture ‘Grand Flou’ ball gown which features a multicolored “bathing suit” bustier, thin halter straps, and a huge shocking pink skirt in silk faille since it first came down the runway back in January. This gown can only work on a couple of red carpets and the Met Gala is one of those few red carpets where this look would work. While it isn’t really a “timeless” gown by any stretch of the imagination it does speak perfectly to the codes of the House of Schiaparelli. Finishing this look with a sleek retro inspired updo, defined eyes, pink lips, a pair of metallic pink Gucci chunky peep toe platform sandals, and white diamond Hueb ‘Luminus’ starburst cluster earrings would definitely make this a major Met Gala debut moment for Rowan.

63 Looks From Spring 2020 Couture I Want To See On The Red Carpet

I started off Paris Haute Couture Spring 2020 Fashion Week with the intention of having a post the next morning of the favorite looks I had seen the day before with who I most want to see wearing those looks. Well life got in the way. Tuesday night I saw Celine Dion and slept as long as I could before heading to work the next day. Wednesday I had to take my mother to a doctors appointment first thing in the morning and lost my little bit of weekday morning blog time. So by then I just decided well day one is already up, but I will just do a round up including all the shows with 1-4 looks from each show being featured in one big round up list. So that is what I did. As I was putting this list together I realized that this is basically a precursor to my 2020 Cannes Film Festival wishes with major looks for L’Orealistas like Sonam Kapoor, Eva Longoria, Araya A. Hargate, Aishwarya Rai, Helen Mirren, and more to bring to life on the red carpet. It can also be a prediction for you all as it comes to what my Oscar party wishes may look like. Overall this season was very good. Aside from my now perennial favorites Givenchy and Valentino there wasn’t really much of a stand out as far as an entire collection, save maybe Armani Prive, but there were a ton of really amazing moments that are just waiting to be seen on a red carpet. I hope you are ready to see more of these looks, see some of these wishes below detailed out, and more on the race to the Oscars, Met Gala, and the Cannes Film Festival. I honestly do not know which wish here is my favorite; what’s yours?

Cannes 2019: L’Orealista’s Red Carpet Wish List Part 2

Yesterday I talked a lot about the looks from L’Orealistas at the Cannes Film Festival that have made the transition to my Best Dressed of the Year list. Before they can make that list they have to make my Best of Cannes list. I haven’t been the most consistent in posting an individual list having only done them in 2018, 2017, 2016, 2015, and 2013. Each of the lists in 2013, 2015, and 2016 all featured just 10 looks while I had such a hard time narrowing looks in 2017 and 2018 that they both feature 21 looks. So how many of the 72 looks that have made the Best of Cannes lists have come from a L’Orealista? 27. I am definitely excited to see what everyone will bring to this years red carpet. I know that given that this years Official Selection doesn’t seem to be filled with as many a-list style stars that I am going to rely on the L’Orealista’s to deliver major moments as they ascend up those famous steps into the Palais de Festivals. Aja Naomi King made her Cannes Film Festival debut last year as a L’Orealista and really surprised me. She isn’t typically one of my favorite stars to see on the red carpet, but she rose to the occasion in Cannes wearing beautiful designs from Pamella Roland and Zuhair Murad Couture. So this year I am hoping that Aja continues to grow and deliver a major looks on the red carpet at this years edition. I wanted to do something a little different for Aja to wear in Cannes to kick off my wishes for her to bring to life on the red carpet picking a look from August Getty Atelier. The LA based designer isn’t typically a label I would associate with the Cannes Film Festival, but after he made his Paris Haute Couture Fashion Week debut back in January I decided that I wouldn’t count him out. I fell in love with this black and gold intricately beaded August Getty Atelier Spring 2019 Couture strapless column gown which features a dramatic asymmetrical folded detail back when it was first presented in January and I definitely think that despite the fact that it isn’t a big ball gown or have a dramatic train that it would be a perfect gown for Aja to bring to life on the Cannes Film Festival red carpet. This gown is a statement all on its own so I would just finish it with a sleek high updo, smokey eyes, glossy dark red lips, a pair of black Stuart Weitzman ‘Nudistsong’ crystal encrusted strap sandals, and Chopard Red Carpet Collection yellow diamond teardrop chandelier earrings. For the second look I’ve chosen for Aja to wear on the Cannes Film Festival red carpet I went with another non-traditional designer. In the last several years only two stars have worn a J. Mendel design on the Cannes Film Festival red carpet. Aja hasn’t worn J. Mendel before, but I definitely believe that this navy J. Mendel Fall 2019 RTW sheer tulle gown which features a plunging neckline, accordion pleat detailing along the bodice, a full skirt designed with rounded ruffle accents, and a sweeping train is something that Aja would definitely be able to deliver with effortless sophistication on the Cannes Film Festival red carpet. I know that with old Hollywood waves, smokey eyes, matte red lips, black Stuart Weitzman ‘Nudist Pearls’ ankle strap sandals embellished with white pearls, and a suite of Chopard Red Carpet Collection jewels including a pair of diamond and sapphire drop earrings and a matching statement necklace that this look would be perfect for the Cannes Film Festival red carpet. The final look I’ve picked for Aja to wear on this red carpet is the most typical ‘Cannes worthy’ gown that I’ve picked for her with this aqua Ralph & Russo Spring 2019 Couture asymmetric silk chiffon gown which features hand pleating and is embellished with aquamarine Swarovski stones. I LOVE this color and the flowing vibe of the gown fits perfectly with the seaside setting of the Cannes Film Festival perfectly. It would make for another perfect look for Aja to bring to life styled with a sleek updo, defined eyes, bright pink lips, a pair of silver Giuseppe Zanotti ‘Adaile’ crystal embellished stiletto sandals, and more Chopard Red Carpet Collection jewels including a pair of simple aquamarine, sapphire, and diamond pendant drop earrings and a statement diamond and aquamarine cuff bracelet. Each of these looks would ensure that Aja just continues to grow in her red carpet sartorial decisions, and rise to the occasion of the Cannes Film Festival. Barbara Palvin made her Cannes Film Festival debut as a L’Orealista way back in 2012. I loved the Valentino Couture moment she wore that year, but to be honest she isn’t typically one of my favorite L’Orealista’s to see on the red carpet. I think it is because she is so all over the map when it comes to consistency of style and fit. I definitely want to see her bring the glamour to the red carpet this year, and I feel like given some of the looks that Barbara has delivered some really chic looks on the red carpet so I have a good feeling. I think that classic glamour and bohemian elegance are the foundation of Barbara’s style and that made it pretty difficult to pick looks for her. I was drawn to this vibrant purple Elie Saab Fall 2018 Couture strapless draped gown for Barbara as it is a meshing of classic glamour and bohemian elegance. I decided I wanted to pick one look that mixed both ideas and then one that was just an iteration of each aesthetic. This Elie Saab gown is devoid of any of the brands signature embellishments, but the drama and glamour of this gown definitely make it a major moment for Barbara to deliver on the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival. A loose romantic updo, bold defined winged eyes, dark red lips, purple Gianvito Rossi crystal embellished satin sandals, and chic Chopard Red Carpet Collection purple tanzanite chandelier necklace would make it perfection. I went in much more of a dazzling glamour direction for my second wish for Barbara with this gold Moschino Fall 2019 RTW sequined gown which features a strapless, sweetheart neckline, a fitted silhouette, and bow-detailed accents. This is definitely a statement look. When it comes to Moschino on the red carpet it isn’t very often we see the brand off the runway, and even rarer that we see it on the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival, but I definitely think that especially on a model that this gown would be perfect for Cannes especially if paired with a sleek 40’s inspired updo, thick defined cat eyes, red lips, a pair of gold Rene Caovilla crystal embellished sandals, and statement floral scroll Chopard Red Carpet Collection multicolor gemstone drop earrings. The final look I’ve chosen for Barbara is in line with the bohemian side of her style. She has had some tremendous success wearing custom Philosophy bi Lorenzo Serafini gowns on the red carpets at both the Cannes and Venice Film Festivals. So I decided that I wanted to create a custom gown from the label for Barbara to wear on the Cannes red carpet this year. So I went to the brands Spring 2019 RTW collection to an intricately embroidered ruffled tulle mini dress to create the tiered ruffled gown with a plunging neckline for Barbara to wear on this red carpet. A short curly bob hairstyle, smokey eyes, dark rose pink lips, a pair of gold and anthracite grey crystal embellished Rene Caovilla satin sandals, and ruby Chopard Red Carpet Collection cluster earrings all would make this look absolutely gorgeous for the Cannes Film Festival red carpet. Duckie Thot continues to rise her star in the modeling world. She will be making her Cannes Film Festival debut this year as a L’Orealista. I am actually a little surprised that Duckie has jumped ship from Fenty Beauty. She kinda became a big thing when she stared in the ad campaign that launched the Fenty Beauty brand. I have to say I am a little worried about Duckie on this red carpet since I don’t really know what her style is and she hasn’t really delivered a red carpet look in the past that has caught my eye. I am hoping that she will turn to some of the brands that she has walked for in the past to help dress her for one of the most important red carpets of the year. Of the three look I’ve picked for Duckie to wear for her Cannes debut only one comes from a designer she hasn’t worked with within the last year and that is the black and red geometric wave embroidered pattern Alexander McQueen Resort 2019 strapless gown which features a sweetheart neckline, fitted hips, and a tiered flared skirt. I pretty much knew the other two looks that I was going to use for Duckie for her Cannes debut and I went around and around looking at options for the third look I wanted to pick. So it happens that third look comes first alphabetically so it comes up first even though it was the last of the looks I chose for Duckie to wear on this red carpet. I just thought that given some of Duckie’s previous red carpet looks that this could be an elevated version of her style for the Cannes Film Festival red carpet. Pair it with a sleek updo, smokey eyes, glossy dark red lips, a pair of black Alexander McQueen beaded bow detail sandals, and a statement black and white diamond de Grisogono collar necklace to really make it perfect. One designer I would easily put money on Duckie wearing for her Cannes Film Festival debut is Balmain. Over the last year Duckie has walked in every Balmain show and was the face of the brands Fall 2018 ad campaign, so I feel like Olivier would definitely be willing to whip something up for her to wear on this red carpet. I decided to modify a black sequin mini dress I found online which features long sleeves, a plunging neckline, and an acid green feather embroidered on it adding a dramatic feathered skirt with a train to it. I think that this is definitely something right up Duckie’s ally and I honestly believe that out of all the looks I picked for her that it is something like this that we are most likely going to see her wearing on the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival. I would love to see this gown paired with a sleek bang hairstyle defined eyes, glossy nude lips, black crystal and spike studded Christian Louboutin ‘Mechante Reine Spikes’ ribbon strap pointed toe pumps, and a pair of black and white diamond de Grisogono tassel earrings. The final look I’ve picked for Duckie to wear on the Cannes red carpet is definitely the riskiest. Duckie just walked in the now iconic and uber inclusive Valentino Spring 2019 Couture show. It celebrated beauty of women who looked so incredibly different and I loved it. The styles that were shown in the collection were as varried as the models who wore the looks. While there are definitely plenty of big ball gowns that I could have chosen for Duckie to snatch off that runway for Cannes I decided to go with something totally unexpected with this Valentino Spring 2019 Couture ensemble which features a cap sleeve canary yellow crop top, brown undershirt, and khaki high waisted paper bag wide leg trousers. For Cannes I typically would have picked a look like this for one of the a-list stars to wear for a photocall, but I feel like that if anyone could make it work for a gala premiere red carpet it would be Duckie. I know that it won’t be to everyone’s taste, but I definitely think it would be a major moment. Pair it with a sleek high ponytail, smokey eyes, nude lips, a pair of matching yellow pointed toe pumps, and a pair of de Grisogono black and yellow diamond drop earrings to secure this as one of the most statement making looks that Duckie has ever worn on a red carpet. Irina Shayk really disappointed me this awards season. I went into it expecting major things and she let me down on every red carpet she walked with boyfriend Bradley Cooper. I hope that she is planning on attending this years Cannes Film Festival and is planning some major fashion moments to compensate for the fact that she left me with a drought of sexy glamour over the course of awards season. Irina almost always goes for bold sexy glamour when she is picking looks to wear on the red carpet in Cannes. We are used to seeing her wearing looks from labels like Versace, Balmain, Roberto Cavalli, and Prada. I definitely want to keep her sexy alive and bring all the drama I am craving to this red carpet. To do that I have two custom gowns from designers we are used to seeing Irina wearing on the red carpet, and another that is the perfect ethereal sexy off the runway moment for Irina to wear in Cannes. The first is a custom peridot green Atelier Versace draped halter gown which mixes silk charmuse and chiffon and features a plunging neckline, gold crystal embellished safety pin detail on the hip, open back, a fit to flare silhouette, and a dramatic train. This is definitely a typical Versace moment and what I love most about the look is definitely the color. Cannes is a place for color and this color on Irina would be phenomenal. Finish this look with old Hollywood waves, defined eyes, soft pink lips, a pair of bold gold Jimmy Choo ‘Mimi’ strappy sandals, and a pair of de Grisogono yellow diamond and emerald drop earrings. Look two comes courtesy of a custom red Balmain gown that I created the idea for after being inspired by the leather corsets from the Balmain Fall 2019 RTW collection. I definitely think that at some point in the next several weeks we are likely to see Olivier Rousting showcase a look on the red carpet that utilizes one of these corsets. I love the sexy and dramatic flamenco vibe that we created by dying the lilac runway corset red and pairing it with a tiered chiffon skirt that I definitely want to see have a dramatic train trailing behind it on the red carpet. I would keep that sexy glamour going with a sleek updo, smoke eyes, red lips, a pair of red Christian Louboutin ‘Forever KST’ crystal studded satin strappy sandals, and a statement diamond, ruby, and pearl de Grisogono pearl necklace. The final look I’ve picked for Irina is this white Ralph & Russo Spring 2019 Couture one shoulder silk chiffon draped gown, embellished with crystals, xilions, sequins and devoré ostrich feathers. This sheer gown done just right could be the perfect meshing of sensuality and elegance. I believe that Irina has the right mix of sex appeal and glamour to really make this an absolutely gorgeous moment on the Cannes Film Festival red carpet especially if paired with a sleek updo, defined eyes, red lips, a pair of silver Jimmy Choo ‘Lilah’ metallic leather platform sandals, and de Grisogono diamond pendant drop earrings.Finishing out today is one of the Queens of Cannes, Sonam Kapoor. The Bollywood actress knows how to own a Cannes Film Festival red carpet. I always am excited to see what she will wear, but honestly her last 3 years worth of looks have all kind of blurred together to me. I want her to really deliver some major moments this year. Last year Sonam was only able to stay one day in Cannes and took to the red carpet at the Palais de Festivals wearing a sari inspired ensemble custom created for her by Ralph & Russo. It was beautiful, but very similar to the Elie Saab looks she wore the year before, and even more similar to the Ralph & Russo gowns she wore the year before that. This year I want Sonam to bring bold glamour to the Cannes Film Festival red carpet, while still paying tribute to her Indian culture. The first look I would love to see Sonam bring to life in Cannes is this red Georges Hobeika Spring 2019 Couture strapless ballgown which features a multi-tone ruffled skirt and a dramatic train. We tend to see quite a bit of Georges Hobeika in Cannes, but it isn’t a label we have seen Sonam wearing in the past. This color too is bolder than we are used to seeing from her, but I feel like it is the perfect statement look for her to wear for the 2019 Cannes Film Festival red carpet. Pair this statement gown with a sleek updo, smokey eyes, nude glossy lips, a pair of red crystal embellished Jimmy Choo ‘Lancer’ strappy pointed toe pumps, and statement Sabyasachi (an important Indian designer) diamond, ruby, and pearl tassel earrings and I know that this would easily be a Best of Cannes, if not a Best of 2019, contender. The second look I’ve picked for Sonam is a little more in tune with the looks that she has been wearing, but even more dramatic. I took the Ralph & Russo Fall 2018 Couture chantilly lace bridal gown which features a plunging neckline with statement tulle overlay, oversized corsage shoulder detailing and cascading tulle train and is embellished with layers of hand cut floral lace appliqué in a glitter finish, metallic silver xilions, crystals and pearls in an ornate design and had it died in a soft peony pink. I wouldn’t typically look at the brides from any couture show as an option for the red carpet, but the style of this gown is just so in tune with what we are used to seeing from Sonam on the red carpet that with it being died I knew it would be perfect for her to bring to life in Cannes. Now when I had my photo editor Evita create this I was thinking of adding embroideries that were taken from authentic Indian saris, that is where the embroidery on the bodice comes from. As I write this I realize that I’m not a huge fan of it and just changing the color would make this gown perfect for Sonam. I would imagine this look would need a sleek updo, defined eyes, dark pink lips, a pair of pink Jimmy Choo ‘Sereno’ jeweled buckle suede sandals, and a selection of Chopard Red Carpet Collection jewels including a pair of flirty pink amethyst, yellow diamond, and opal floral cluster earrings and a pink amethyst scroll work cuff bracelet to really be the major moment I know it has the potential to be. The final look I would like to see from Sonam is a pretty classic princess moment that I would edge up with styling. I adore this cream Ulyana Sergeenko Fall 2018 Couture strapless ball gown which features a smooth strapless bustier bodice and a tiered ruffled ball skirt and I definitely think that it is something she would be drawn to. Add a statement Sabyasachi emerald and diamond collar necklace, a vintage inspired updo, smokey eyes, burgundy lips, and a pair of gold metallic leather and PVC Christian Louboutin ‘Fairdaravie’ round studded sandals to make sure that this is just another major Queen of Cannes moment for Sonam.

The 2019 Cannes Film Festival opens Monday May 13, 2019 and runs through Saturday May 25, 2019.

Cannes 2018: L’Orealistas Red Carpet Wish List Part 2

The glamour of the Cannes Film Festival is unparalleled. Go big or go home. That is the mentality that stars bring to the red carpet. Last year there were so many beautiful moments on the red carpets at the festival that I was unable to narrow down my favorite looks to just 10. I ended up having 21 looks on that list and two of those looks ended up on my Best Dressed of the Year list! There is not event that can compare to the glamour of Cannes. No other festival has wall to wall stars on the red carpet just for the sake of adding glamour to the red carpet. That is what happens every single year when L’Oreal Paris sends their brand ambassadors known as L’Orealistas to walk the red carpet at the Palais de Festivals just to add drama and glamour to the red carpet. The young actress Aja Naomi King from How To Get Away With Murder and The Birth of a Nation was announced earlier this year as a face of L’Oreal and I am really intrigued to see what she will bring to the red carpets for her first Cannes Film Festival. I have never been the biggest fan of Aja’s style on the red carpet, but I know that she has the potential to really make me take notice of her. I think that Cannes has a way of changing a person. I used to say the same thing about Elle Fanning before her first Cannes. Now she constantly shuts down whatever red carpet she steps out on, and that is what I am hoping for from Aja. The first look I’ve picked for Aja is a gown I am really shocked no one snatched off the runway already. This melon yellow Carolina Herrera Spring 2018 RTW embroidered silk organza ball gown which features a straight strapless neckline, open bright blue ribbon-trimmed back, and a cathedral train is beautiful and dramatic, bold color and I just think that Aja would definitely be the bright spot on the red carpet. Usually in Cannes it’s a sea of gold, pink, white, black, silver, and blue on the red carpet so this bright, bold color would be a welcome change to that norm. I don’t want Aja to fade into the background, so I picked mostly big bold gowns. But I wanted one simpler silhouette too. I think that this cream Elie Saab Spring 2015 Couture sheer chiffon and lace gown which features a pleated skirt, draped halter neckline, and a plunging neckline would be a really chic moment. It is light and glamorous and I think that it would be a really chic moment in between big ball gowns. I would hope that she would pair this gown with a dramatic updo and some really statement earrings to further the glamour of this look. The final look I picked for Aja is this dusty rose Zuhair Murad Fall 2017 Couture sheer floral beaded ball gown which features knotted details on the shoulders, a plunging neckline, and a silver leaf metal belt. It is the feminine glamour that I know that Aja could shut down a red carpet wearing and I think that she would definitely own this gown on one of the most famous red carpets in the world. Blake Lively always gives good glamour on the red carpet over the years we have seen her give sexy maternity mermaid in Atelier Versace, simple yet perfect edgy glam in custom Gucci, and major princess vibes in Vivienne Westwood Couture. I’m pretty positive that since she has talked about the hours of work that has gone into her Met Gala gown that Blake won’t take her usual perch on the Opening Ceremony red carpet, but I am praying that she will take the journey from Manhattan to the south of France to once again grace the Cannes red carpets with her signature glamour. Only one of Blake’s prior Cannes gowns has come off the runway and that was a really (in my opinion) ugly Chanel gown. It’s been her only Cannes flop, but a flop it was. I wonder if that is why she relies on custom designs. I would love to see Blake bring New York to Cannes wearing Oscar de la Renta this year. Blake has given great looks from Oscar and the brands creative director’s Laura Kim and Fernando Garcia’s own brand Monse on the red carpet. I think that Blake would most likely get them to make her a custom gown, but I do think that this red silk Oscar de la Renta gown which features a strapless rounded neckline, a fitted waist, a long length, a bow detail, flared hem, and a sweeping train would be a real femme fatale/Jessica Rabbit moment for Blake. The second look I’ve picked for Blake is from another of her favorite brands, Ralph & Russo. I really do think that Blake would deliver 40’s screen siren glamour wearing this antique rose satin Ralph & Russo Fall 2017 Couture gown which features a sculpted off the shoulder neckline, a-line skirt, dramatic train, and a sexy split. When I saw this look come down the runway last July it was one of the gowns I knew I wanted to see on the Cannes red carpet and I started to think of the perfect person to bring it to life on the red carpet and I really do think that with some old Hollywood waves, a vintage inspired smokey eye, dark ruby red lips, a pair of nude crystal embellished Christian Louboutin ‘Degrastrass PVC ‘Lea Nue” pumps, and a statement diamond collar necklace that Blake would definitely own this red carpet moment. The final look I picked for Blake is a little more simpler in shape than she has worn in a long time. I think that Blake would take this gold pleated chiffon Zuhair Murad Spring 2018 Couture gown which features a caped back, asymmetrical neckline, and crystal red rose embellishments on the bodice and make it another old Hollywood glam moment. Lara Stone has a look. She gives this tough take on glamour and I always look forward to seeing what she will wear on the Cannes red carpets. Last year she hit a personal best wearing custom Balmain for the Cannes celebration of the Balmain x L’Oreal collection and Chanel Couture for the amfAR Cannes Gala. I am really excited to see what she will bring this year. I did go back to Balmain for this year and this black beaded Balmain 44 François Premiere long sleeve column gown which features a crew neck and sheer diagonal stripes is definitely the perfect edgy moment for her to rock on this red carpet. I might be pretty much over Balmain and sheer details but I think that Lara would definitely add the glamour to this edgy design on the Cannes red carpet. For the second look I picked for Lara I delved into the Chanel Couture archive picking this white Chanel Fall 2004 Couture halter gown. It is sleek and elegant and I definitely think that Lara would be the perfect person to walk into Uncle Karl’s atelier and pull this gown out of the archive. There are going to be a lot of Chanel this year I think, but pulling this gown out of the archive would be a really chic moment. Vera Wang has never had a major Cannes moment and I feel like Lara would be the perfect person to bring the brand to the red carpet wearing this black Vera Wang Fall 2018 RTW gown which features a structured peplum tuxedo inspired vest bodice and a tulle ball skirt. It is the perfect mesh of edge and glamour to really make for a chic moment on this years Cannes red carpet. I had a huge ‘Who’s That Girl’ moment during last years Cannes Film Festival with Thai actress Praya Lundberg. She gave expected glamour in Julien Macdonald, and then really wowed in Rami Kadi Couture and I am really excited to see what she will bring to the red carpet this year. She loves equally simple sexy shapes and big dramatic silhouettes and I am really excited to see which silhouettes she chooses this year. She has yet to have a really major a-list couture moment and I feel like what better place than the Cannes Film Festival red carpet to have that moment? I would love to see Praya own her first major couture gown wearing this black Armani Prive Spring 2009 Couture strapless column gown with a dramatic organza tulle train. I really can’t believe it’s been more than nine years since this gown was first presented and it has never been worn. This gown is dramatic and glamorous and I think it would be the perfect gown for Praya to bring to life on the Cannes Film Festival red carpet. I went back to another gown from Rami Kadi for Praya to rock this year, and I think that she would totally love this sexy black and purple ombré sequin Rami Kadi Capsule Couture Spring 2018 column gown which features a column silhouette, sweetheart neckline, and thick straps. This is the sexy side of Praya and I think that she would definitely make this a statement look among all of the big ball gowns and dramatic trains of the festival. I would love to think that Praya would also own the red carpet wearing this cream Ziad Nakad Spring 2018 Couture tired feather embellished ball gown. It gives me the same drama as the Rami Kadi gown last year, but in another new designer for the Cannes Film Festival red carpet. Winnie Harlow owned the Cannes Film Festival red carpet last year wearing a statement electric blue Zuhair Murad Couture ball gown. I didn’t pick a look with statement colors this year, but instead opting for drama through construction. The first look I picked for Winnie is probably my favorite. This black Alexander McQueen Fall 2018 RTW gown which features a structured poufy ruffle blouse, sheer skirt, and a feathered hem is absolutely beautiful for the Cannes red carpet. Drama and edge are things that I want to see Winnie wearing some real statement gowns and I think that if anyone could sell it to me that it would be Winnie. We have recently seen Winnie front row at several Dior shows and that would lead me to believe that one of the gowns that Winnie will wear during her time at this years festival will be from the storied couture house. I think that Winnie would be the perfect person to wear this white sheer Christian Dior Spring 2018 Couture one shoulder gown would be a really chic moment from Winnie. I would probably want to see this gown lined for the red carpet, but then again I feel like it would bring down the ease and lightness of this gown. I would believe that Winnie would have access to the perfect undergarments to really give the sheerness of this gown the perfect light and airy moment on the red carpet. The final look I picked for Winnie is a simple and structured look via this black Mugler crepe column gown which features a sweetheart neck, oversized padded shoulders, long sleeves, fitted, darts at front and back, and a sexy slit. A structured glam moment would definitely make a chic moment with some diamond and emerald jewels from the 2018 Chopard Green Carpet Collection including a pair of fringe earrings and a simple collar necklace and a pair of strappy black sandals would all add to the glamour of this look.

The 2018 Cannes Film Festival opens Tuesday May 8, 2018 and will run through Saturday May 19, 2018.

2017 Toronto International Film Festival Red Carpet Wish List Part 5

I am kicking off today the same way I ended yesterday with a set of wishes that is dominated by a single film and and the addition of one wish for another film. There are so many films and stars that are set to grace the Toronto International Film Festival red carpets, that I can barley contain my excitement. The fall festival season kicks off tomorrow with the Venice Film Festival and will continue through TIFF. Basically the most glamorous time of the year is upon us. From now until the Oscars we will basically have some sort of premiere, for your consideration event, awards show, or film festival every week. The next 3 weeks in particular will have an event every single day. The Upside is a star studded film that has snatched up one of the festivals coveted gala screening slots. I have to say that this premiere is one that I am most intrigued to see who from the cast will be on the red carpet and what they will wear. It was last year while she was promoting The Birth of a Nation that we really started to see Aja Naomi King evolve into a fashionista. She works with the same stylist that has made Kirsten Stewart into a major fashion heavy hitter, and as Aja’s star continues to rise I have a feeling that she will become as major of a style star as Kristen. I would love to see Aja go for true glam with this cream and gold silk brocade Emilia Wickstead Resort 2018 draped a-line gown which features a criss-cross strap open back. The gown is effortless glamour at its peak and I am really excited to see who gets their hands on it. I think that it would look absolutely gorgeous and stand out against Aja’s skin tone and I feel that for a major film festival gala premiere that it would be a perfect choice for her to make. With a pair of champagne Oscar Tiye ‘Adele’ ruffled satin pumps, diamond cluster earrings, a braided high bun, and a red lip this look would be styled perfectly for Aja. I was very disappointed that Golshifteh Farahani skipped the international promo tour for Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales earlier this year. I was hoping that we would really get a look at the Iranian actresses style on the red carpet. I hope that she will join her established a-list co-stars on the red carpet premiere of The Upside. I have gone off mostly things that I would want to see Golshifteh wearing on a red carpet, without making an informed choice based on her past history. I usually like to go through and make my wishes based on what stars have worn in the past, but there isn’t much of a history for me to go on with Golshifteh. For the TIFF premiere of The Upside I would love to see her go for bold with this multicolored sequin Elie Saab Resort 2018 mermaid gown which features a round neckline, a sleeveless silhouette, and a full length skirt. When I was picking looks and unsure of what to pick for Golshifteh to wear and I saw this gown I fell in love with the idea. The gown is elegant and dramatic all at the same time, making it a perfect choice for Golshifteh to wear on the red carpet at TIFF.Since The Good Wife has ended we have not seen very much of Julianna Margulies on the red carpet. I am hoping that when she steps out to promote her latest film The Upside that she will deliver a really amazing look on the red carpet. Julianna has the potential to really make me fall in love with her sense of style on the red carpet, and I want her to deliver something really major for this TIFF premiere. I think that this Elie Saab Fall 2017 Couture gown which features a strapless velvet peplum bustier with a plunging neckline, gold belted waist, and a smokey ombré flowing chiffon skirt would be a totally major moment on Julianna. This gown is chic and classic, while also being sexy and dramatic all at the same time. I think that the look is so dramatic that simple styling would make it perfection. With a sleek romantic updo, smokey eye, nude lip, diamond cluster earrings, and a pair of black Giuseppe Zanotti ‘Ada’ gold heel sandals I know that Julianna would own this red carpet. The final star of The Upside that I have a wish for is the gorgeous Nicole Kidman. Earlier this year in Cannes Nicole killed it with so many films premiering in competition and I am really excited to see how she is going to handle the fall festivals. Nicole has had a lot of success with wearing Armani Prive on the red carpets this year, that I just had to make another wish for her to wear the label. I correctly predicted Nicole’s Armani Prive Oscar gown earlier this year so I am hoping that I also get this beautiful multicolored Armani Prive Fall 2017 Couture strapless midi length pencil dress which features beautiful floral embellishments correct as well. Nicole was the first person that came to mind when I first saw this gown come down the runway at the Armani Prive show back in July and I think that for an event like a TIFF premiere that she would look absolutely beautiful wearing this gown. It is not often that we see Nicole wearing a strapless gown on the red carpet, and I think this would make for a perfect option for her to showcase her awesome upper body. I decided to pull color from the dress and take it to her feet with a pair of navy Manolo Blahnik ‘Clarice’ satin pointed toe sling back pumps. Adding a sleek updo, pink lip, smokey eye, and a pair of dainty diamond earrings all would add the perfect finishing touches to this look.Rounding out this list is Kate Winslet who will be presenting her latest feature The Mountain Between Us at this years festival. This film is also screening as a gala presentation so I would imagine that we will see Kate wearing a gown on the red carpet. When it comes to style I am usually very underwhelmed and bored with Kate’s style, and I am hoping that she gives me something to peak my interest on the red carpet at her TIFF premiere. This black Reem Acra Resort 2018 embellished bow gown which features a fit to flare silhouette and an extended train screams Kate’s style on the red carpet, and I am thinking that this gown would elevate her style just enough to make me take note of her TIFF red carpet ensemble. I know that the styling would be very standard with a romantic updo, red lip, diamond cluster earrings, a diamond bracelet, and a pair of black Christian Louboutin ‘Aketata’ patent leather peep toe ankle strap pumps.

The 2017 Toronto International Film Festival opens September 7, 2017 and runs through September 16, 2017.

2016 London Film Festival: “The Birth of a Nation” Premiere Red Carpet Wish List

aja-naomi-king-2016-london-film-fest-the-birth-of-a-nation-premiere-wish-list-1The cast of The Birth of a Nation has been up and down with their red carpet looks over the course of the promo tour so far and I am praying that they start to hit a stride. The next stop on the promotional road is the London Film Festival where the film will have a gala premiere. I am hoping that we finally get that real big moment from Aja Naomi King, which I have been eagerly awaiting. Aja shares a stylist with Kirsten Stewart so I was looking at some of the brands that Tara Sweenen, their stylist, has worked with and I decided that Aja needs a major Elie Saab moment. I think that the London Film Festival premiere of The Birth of a Nation would be the perfect place for Aja to rock this absolutely major Elie Saab Fall 2016 Couture gown which features a plunging neckline, black and white printed wrap style ball skirt, and gorgeous oversized floral embellishments. This is a very dramatic take on a princess moment and I think that Aja would hit the red carpet with great aplomb. I would love to see Aja go for a chic updo with a red lip, dainty diamond drop earrings, and a pair of simple black strappy platform sandals to really send this look into major moment territory. gabrielle-union-2016-london-film-fest-the-birth-of-a-nation-premiere-wish-list-1Gabrielle Union can be either hit or miss with her red carpet looks and it has been a while since I have really loved one of her looks. I am hoping that if she makes the jaunt to London to premiere The Birth of the Nation at the London Film Festival that Gabrielle really showcases a gorgeous moment. I went with something a little more modern than she has worn recently with this liquid black sequined Kaufmanfranco Fall 2016 RTW off the shoulder column gown which features a stomach slash and a cut out back. This is modern glamour at it’s best and I think that Gabrielle could make it a really major moment. Where she could make the look go wrong is in the styling. I would add sexy Veronica Lake waves, a bright red lip, diamond drop earrings, a statement cocktail ring, and a pair of strappy back Christian Louboutin sandals to really make this a perfect look for Gabrielle.

“The Birth of a Nation” LA Premiere Red Carpet Wish List

aja-naomi-king-the-birth-of-a-nation-la-premiere-wish-list-1This year a lot of the films that are garnering Oscar buzz are premiering earlier than normal. Usually we see these films start to gain buzz around the Venice and Toronto Film Festivals and then ride the festival train until they get wide theatrical release in November, December and January. This season we are seeing a lot ride that festival train while also going into wide theatrical release. The Birth of a Nation is one of those films. It will have a red carpet premiere in LA tomorrow ahead of its theatrical release early October. The breakout star of The Birth of a Nation is Aja Naomi King whom we have only seen in a supporting role in How To Get Away With Murder. Aja is quickly growing with her red carpet style thanks to the help of power stylist Tara Sweenen who also dresses Kristen Stewart, Julie Bowen and Caitriona Balfe. With rumors of Best Supporting Actress nominations swirling around for her I figure she can only continue to grow. For the films LA premiere I would love to see Aja go for gorgeous glam with this Lela Rose Resort 2017 gown which features a cream blouse and a rosy copper pleated metallic skirt. I think that this gown is a mix of high glam and sugary sweetness, which is something that we haven’t really seen from Aja on the red carpet before. To really make this a perfect look I would love to see Aja hit the carpet paring this gown with a sleek bob, glossy nude lip, a gold clutch, and a pair of gold sandals to really just send this look over the top.
