2021 SAG Awards Red Carpet Wish List Part 1

The SAG Awards broadcast is this weekend. I say broadcast because I am sure that the Screen Actors Guild has already started bringing their presenters and nominees together to record their sections as this years show will be pre-recorded and broadcast with a 1 hour television special. I am not sure how they are going to condense the whole show into just one hour, but I am sure there will be a way for them to do it. I’ve been ruminating on my wishes for this event for a while. It actually put me in a bit of a funk. I was originally going to start these as soon as I was done with my Grammy’s wishes, but because of the circumstances I just wasn’t feeling inspired. In fact until this past weekend when I finally finished putting the wishes together I was still uninspired. I will not be detailing out everyone. I have just decided that I don’t have that in me right now, but I have a couple days of detailed wishes that will culminate in a big round up style post for everyone else. I picked the stars featured in my detailed wishes based on who I was able to easily pick a look for and who I know has been turning out looks during our virtual awards season. Kicking things off is Amy Adams whom earned a surprise nomination this awards season for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role in a Movie thanks to her role as Beverly “Bev” Vance in Hillbilly Elegy. I’ve always loved Amy and her style, but in more recent years her looks have missed the mark for me. We haven’t seen her show a fashion look since Emmy night 2019 where she wore a hideous Fendi Couture gown. I want to see her give us GLAMOUR this weekend for the SAG Awards and I know it would be a perfect moment to see her wearing this black Oscar de la Renta Fall 2021 RTW crystal embroidered halter neck column gown which features a draped bodice and keyhole bodice cutout. It is classically glamorous and I think that it would be a great moment for Amy to bring to life for the SAG Awards. I would then take this classic gown and style it with a sleek retro glam updo, thick defined soft smokey eyes, bold red lips, a pair of black satin Tom Form ‘TF 105’ slingback pointed toe pumps, and a selection of Cartier jewels including intricate vintage white diamond chandelier earrings and a statement ‘L’Odyssée de Cartier’ white diamond cuff bracelet to really make this look scream glamour from head to toe. Over the course of this major winning awards season Catherine O’Hara has given more understand glam looks with a custom Vera Wang suit at the Golden Globes and a black Elie Saab ruffled cocktail dress for the Critics Choice Awards. For this weekends SAG Awards I would really love to see Catherine finish out the awards run for Schitt’s Creek giving us a bit of razzle dazzle wearing this black, gold, and white art deco inspired Elie Saab Spring 2018 Couture long sleeve column gown. I am SHOCKED that no one has worn this gown yet. I would have figured Angelina Jolie, Nicole Kidman, Helen Mirren, Catherine Zeta Jones, Nadine Labaki, or Jane Fonda would have fought over this dress. Three years later we are still waiting to see it have a red carpet moment. I feel like it is totally in tune with Catherine’s chic and sophisticated sense of style and it would make sure that she sends Schitt’s Creek off in HIGH glam style. I feel like her soft wave center parted and worn down, thick defined eyes, bold red lips, a pair of black satin Roger Vivier gold metal crystal buckle platform chunky heel strappy sandals, and simple elegant IVY New York red spinel and white diamond drop earrings would add the perfect finishing touches to this look. Emma Corrin has been serving LEWKS this awards season. She collected her Golden Globe wearing custom clown inspired Miu Miu and then went for bold 80’s inspired style with a Schiaparelli mini dress for the Critics Choice Awards. Her style has been top notch and I am sad her tenure with the cast of The Crown is coming to an end. After her wins this year I would say that her portrayal of Princess Diana has her as the favorite to take home the Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Drama Series trophy this year. I went for edgy glam with this silver and black Armani Prive Spring 2021 Couture sleeveless tea length gown with a halter neck vest and a spaghetti strap slip dress for Emma. Now I would ditch the belt from the runway and style this dress with her edgy cropped hairstyle, navy blue glitter Pat McGrath Labs ‘Dark Star’ smokey eyes, soft pink lips, strappy black Awge x Amina Muaddi ‘Isd Gladi’ thigh high crystal embellished sandals, and a selection of Messika jewels including asymmetrical white diamond wing cluster earrings and a white diamond fringe cuff bracelet to make sure this look is in line with Emma’s bold edgy glam style.Helen Mirren is one of the announced presenters for this weekend’s show. I have always loved seeing Helen on a red carpet and I cannot wait to see what look she will turn. She isn’t afraid of giving bold glamour on a red carpet and as I am working planning out the rest of awards season and headed into events like Cannes I cannot wait for Helen to serve more and more looks again. I was saving images from the Fall 2021 RTW collections when I saw this hot pink Tony Ward long sleeve a-line gown which features intricate beading on the bodice and sleeves, a jagged drop waist, and a tulle skirt. I immediately thought of Helen when I saw this gown and when I saw she was presenting at the SAG Awards I immediately thought of this gown. It’s such a bold statement moment and I know that Helen would be able to sell it to me easily especially with a sophisticated side parted hairstyle, defined eyes, soft pink lips, a pair of hot pink Alexandre Vauthier crystal toe cap PVC sling back pointed toe pumps, and a bit more sparkle via white diamond Chopard ‘Precious’ collection white diamond cluster earrings. Finishing out today is Vanessa Kirby who has given some simple yet very chic looks this awards season wearing a simple black Gucci halter gown for the Globes and a red lace Saint Laurent gown for the Critics Choice Awards. I have definitely been paying attention to Vanessa and I am praying that she brings major looks to her final stops on the awards season circuit. She knows how to do major tailoring moments so I knew pretty immediately that I wanted to do this black and white Alexander McQueen Resort 2021 RTW tuxedo inspired ensemble for her to rock for the SAG Awards. I love this look which consists of a classic white button down shirt and a pair of black high waisted slim fit trousers with a major bow peplum detail. It is simple, sophisticated, and classic but in a way that SCREAMS drama. I mean can a look be classic and statement making at the same time? Because I definitely think that this look is exactly that. While Vanessa has a very no muss no fuss sense of style I think that the bow detail is within her wheelhouse. I think a sleek down hairstyle tucked behind the ears, defined eyes, bold red lips, a pair of black crystal embellished Christian Louboutin ‘Loubiloo Bling Bang’ twist strap ankle strap sandals, and Bulgari ‘Barroko’ collection white diamond and ruby bunting cluster drop earrings would ensure this look fit’s in perfectly with Vanessa’s red carpet vibe.

The 2021 SAG Awards special will broadcast on Sunday April 4, 2021.

2020 Cannes Film Festival What Could Have Been Wish List: “The Woman In The Window”

Joe Wright’s “Rear Window”-style psychological thriller about the mental collapse of an agoraphobic, alcoholic psychologist has already endured a push back after Disney purchased 20th Century Fox Studios. Adapted from author AJ Finn’s 2018 potboiler, it was originally slated for an October 2019 awards season release, then moved to May 15 of this year, and has yet to have it’s release rescheduled as its fate — like so many movies right now — remains unknown. But a Cannes slot could give this hotly awaited film a chance to rise from the ashes. Co-starring Amy Adams and Julianne Moore this film would have definitely cultivated a glamorous premiere at this years Cannes Film Festival. 2010’s On The Road was the first and only film that Amy Adams has stared in that has screened in Cannes and she didn’t even make the trip to the French Riviera to promote the film. I would have LOVED to see Amy bring her signature glam to Cannes this year to promote The Woman in the Window. I picked two super glamorous and elegant moments for Amy starting with this dark blue Oscar de la Renta draped cap sleeve wool blend midi dress which feature a faux wrap style skirt and a thigh high split. While some would work that full split to its potential I think that is much more of a classy woman and would just let the flesh pop naturally. I think that this dress minus the oxblood leather belt it was styled wit on the runway styled with a sleek center parted hairstyle tucked behind the ears, defined eyes, rose pink lips, and a pair of black and red Gianvito Rossi ‘Caterina’ pointed toe bow detail slingback pumps this look would ooze ladylike sophistication. For the premiere I went for big drama with this stone grey archive Elie Saab Spring 2009 Couture ball gown which features a sheer 3-D floral embroidered sleeveless bodice and a high waisted tiered crinkled silk skirt with a dramatic train. This gown has always been in the back of my mind. I’ve never used this gown in a wish before. I’ve been waiting for the right person at the right event to bring this gown out of the archive and Amy in Cannes is definitely the right pair to finally give this gown the red carpet moment it deserves. Amy has worn this color in the past and can get washed out easily wearing it, so the styling has to be PERFECT. To make sure this look just oozed major glam on the red carpet I would love to see Amy style this gown with a sleek retro updo, smokey eyes lined in emerald green, bold red lips, a pair of zinc grey Casadei ‘Blade Modern Love’ pointed toe ankle strap d’Orsay pumps, and a selection of Cartier High Jewelry including modern white diamond, enamel, and cabochon emerald fringe drop earrings and a vintage art deco white diamond and cabochon emerald bracelet.Julianne Moore has screened many films in Cannes and has won the festivals Best Actress award so seeing a film with her amongst the cast screening at the festival. So I started searching for two super moments for Julianne to wear while promoting The Woman in the Window in addition to the two couture moments I picked for her to wear as a L’Orealista from vintage Yves St. Laurent and Givenchy by Clare Waight Keller. For this films photocall I wanted to see Julianne turn to one of her favorite casual brands with this forest green Chloe Fall 2020 RTW cotton jersey midi dress which features long poet sleeves, lace details, a jewel neckline, drop waist, and a pleated skirt. Julianne in any shade of green is always something I am down for and I think that while this is definitely more of a winter color that Julianne would have made it feel light and bohemian for a photocall overlooking the French Riviera. I would do so by styling this look with loose waves, defined eyes, soft pink lips, and a pair of two tone brown Aquazzura ‘Cozumel Plateau’ strappy platform ankle strap sandals. Now for the premiere I hadn’t realized until I started writing this blog post that I had picked an archive runway look for Julianne in addition to Amy. This red chiffon Chanel Spring 1985 RTW draped gown which features a halter neck that turns into a dramatic train and a flowing a-line skirt is the second vintage moment I wanted to see Julianne bring to life in Cannes. I think that this moment would have been absolutely glamorous. Chiffon gowns in Cannes can bring magical moments if the fabric catches the sea breeze on the outdoor red carpet and knowing how Julianne handled that on the red carpet in Venice I know that she would have made this a super glam moment. Styled with a sleek updo, defined smokey eyes, rose pink lips, lipstick red satin Aquazzura ‘Deneuve’ bow detailed ankle strap sandals, and a pair of dazzling three row Chopard Red Carpet Collection 2019 fringe chandelier earrings I know that Julianne would have delivered nothing but glamour on this red carpet. I have several wishes for Cannes regulars today starting with L’Orealista Andie MacDowell. Sometimes Andie delivers WOW moments and sometimes she delivers beautiful but standard looks and sometimes she tries taking a risk and it just doesn’t work. My first wish for Andie was a super sleek statement red Valentino sequined column gown. That would most likely have landed in the WOW category. Today’s wish is much more within the beautiful but standard area. I LOVE this glamorous black silk Carolina Herrera Fall 2020 RTW strapless pailette embellished trumpet gown and I think that it is definitely something that Andie would be drawn to. I was looking and we have really only seen Carolina Herrera on the red carpet in Cannes three times before. Usually we see stars opt for European or couture labels for Cannes, but this super glam gown definitely would have spoken to the elegance that Cannes requires. I think that had Andie worn this gown with old Hollywood waves worn over one shoulder, defined eyes, red lips, a black crystal embellished Judith Leiber Couture ‘Slim Rectangle’ clutch, black Aquazzura ‘Forever’ cut out detailed pointed toe pumps, and a selection of Messika High Jewelry including white diamond ‘Firebird’ intricate cluster earrings, a super chic white diamond ‘Desert Bloom’ riviere necklace, and a white diamond peacock like ‘Desert Bloom’ cocktail ring that she would definitely have had a super glam moment on her hands.  Bruna Marquezine is a friend of Chopard so I was definitely hoping to see her bring the glam to the Cannes Film Festival red carpet this year. I wanted to see her wearing a custom version of this sea glass blue Alberta Ferretti Limited Edition Fall 2019 Couture ruffled gown which features a plunging neckline removing the sheer yoke, intricate beading, and a mermaid silhouette lengthening the hem to have a dramatic train. This gown with those modifications could definitely make for a perfect Cannes Film Festival gown and I think that Bruna would have been able sell this moment to me with ease. A loose romantic updo, soft smokey eyes, bright pink lips, a pair of silver crystal embellished Rene Caovilla ‘Ellabrita’ ankle strap sandals, and statement Chopard Red Carpet Collection white diamond and paraiba tourmaline pendent drop earrings would have definitely make this look seaside glam from head to toe. Thai actress Praya Lundberg knows how to bring the sexy and the drama to the Cannes Film Festival red carpet. Over the years she has typically chosen one column gown and one ballgown. In my What Could Have Been wishes I went for two major ballgowns. The first was super glam from Rami Kadi, so for the second look I wanted to infuse some sex appeal into the look. So I picked this black Georges Chakra Fall 2019 Couture asymmetrical one shoulder gown which features a cold shoulder, chest cutout, a sheer beaded column skirt, and a dramatic ruffled bustle train. It would be that dark, sexy glamour moment and I knew that it would have easily been something that Praya would have been drawn to. So to finish this look I would have loved seeing Praya style this gown with a sleek updo, defined eyes, bold red lips, black leather Christian Louboutin ‘Very Cathy’ ankle strap peep toe d’orsay platform sandals, and a pair of dazzling asymmetrical white and black diamond de Grisogono waterfall pendant drop earrings. Originally I was going to pick a more traditional Indian look for my second wish for the gorgeous Sonam Kapoor, but instead I went for dramatic glamour. I have wanted to see this midnight blue shiny Georges Hobeika Fall 2014 Couture gown which features a sweetheart neckline, fitted silhouette, and a dramatic bustle train on a red carpet since it was first presented six years ago. At the time I really wanted to see Eva Longoria wear this gown, but now I feel like Sonam is the perfect person to pull this gown out of the Hobeika archives. The gown itself isn’t beaded or dazzling on its face it has gravitas. I know that with a sleek updo, navy smokey eyes, soft rose pink lips, a pair of midnight blue iridescent crystal embellished Rene Caovilla ‘Celebrita’ platform ankle strap sandals, and a punch of sparkle via a white diamond and sapphire starburst Chopard Red Carpet Collection 2019 collar necklace would have definitely ensured this moment was nothing but dramatic glamour defined.

2020 Met Gala Red Carpet Wish List Part 10

The 2019 Met Gala gave us “Camp,” a seemingly endless stream of dramatic over the top moments. There was no lack of color, volume, sequins, crystals, feathers, and more on that red carpet. I was definitely a lot to take in. This years Met Gala theme of “About Time: Fashion and Duration” is bound to deliver the exact opposite. While “Camp” ensured everyone delivering huge fashion moments I believe that “About Time” will deliver a myriad of takes on classic glam. I am sure that we will see lots of looks that hearken back to the 20’s, 30’s, 40’s, 50’s, and 60’s which can be acclaimed as the heyday of high glamour. From flappers to Jackie O I feel like the inspiration that can be taken for style that has endured the test of time is pretty endless, but one thing runs the gambit: Glamour. It has been a while since we have seen Amy Adams on the Met Gala red carpet. The last event she attended was the 2014 “Charles James” themed gala. With major projects expected to be released later this year that could have her finally seeing Oscar gold next awards season. So I really want to see her take advantage of any major red carpet she can to keep up appearances. I actually decided to go a bit of an unexpected route for Amy picking a designer we have never seen on the Met Gala red carpet: Ports 1961. I always check out the Ports show hoping for chic moments. When I saw this burgundy sequin and and red pleated silk midi dress which features thin straps and a gold chain link belt I immediately thought it would be a superb moment for Amy. Then I started thinking of how it would look without the black polka dotted tulle blouse from underneath and lengthening the skirt to hit the floor and adding a long train to make a super chic, unexpected moment for Amy to wear on the Met Gala red carpet. Finishing the look with old Hollywood waves worn over one shoulder, smokey eyes, nude lips, a gold metallic python leather Tyler Ellis ‘Perry’ clutch, a pair of gold Christian Louboutin ‘Maia Labella’ crystal embellished mesh pointed toe strappy d’Orsay pumps, and vintage Cartier High Jewelry 18k gold set ruby and white diamond earclips would definitely make sure that Amy delivers the glamour on this red carpet. Diplo has been on the Met Gala red carpet many times over the last several years and I would expect him to walk the red carpet again this year. He was front row at the Louis Vuitton by Virgil Abloh Fall 2020 Menswear show back in January and I feel like that was the precursor to him wearing a look from the label on the Met Gala red carpet. I was watching this show live from my desk in my office I would love to see Diplo go a little left of what the typical menswear look is for the Met Gala. This petrol blue button down skirt, matching tie, and pants which features degrade beading from the collar down the sleeves, tie, and torso of the shirt caught my eye immediately and I believe that it would definitely be something that Diplo would be drawn to. Lately Diplo has been wearing a lot of cowboy hats so I would love to see him ask Virgil to create a custom beaded cowboy hat to match the look. Adding a pair of black leather Louis Vuitton ‘Vendome’ chelsea boots and a grey damier pattern Louis Vuitton ‘Neo Trunk’ belt with a large buckle would definitely make this a perfect look for Diplo to rock on the Met Gala red carpet. Jennifer Lopez has delivered major looks on the Met Gala red carpet. Her 2017 robins egg blue Valentino Couture ended up topping my Best Dressed of the Year list. She knows how to bring her signature sexy brand of glamour to whatever look she’s wearing. I was looking at the Oscar de la Renta Fall 2020 RTW collection and the moment I saw this black and white feathered hem velvet gown which features a high neck, long sleeves, high low hem, and a dramatic train I knew it had to be a Met moment. In the same thought I also knew that it would be a killer moment on JLo. Now with all her spring ad campaigns (Coach, Versace, Guess) it is likely that if we see Jennifer on this red carpet that she would most likely be wearing a custom look from one of those labels. I would love to see her go for this gown which is a bit of an unexpected choice. The gown is made for this Met Gala red carpet and I just know that with her sensual sensibility that she would once again shut the red carpet down. A big dramatic bun updo, defined winged eyes, bold matte red lips, a black Oscar de la Renta crystal bow clasp satin clutch, a pair of white Christian Louboutin ‘Degrastrass’ crystal embellished PVC pointed toe pumps, and dazzling white diamond Harry Winston ‘Cluster’ drop earrings would definitely make this a major moment for JLo. I decided to delve into the archives of different brands. Chanel spokesmodels are bound to be all over the Met Gala red carpet this year. Three of the four looks that Chanel sent to the Met last year came out of the archive. So I would love to see Chanel once again dive into the archives for the perfect looks for their ladies to wear on this red carpet this year. I think that speaks to the idea of “About Time: Fashion and Duration” perfectly. Let’s make the “old” new again. I while on my Chanel archive dive I found this red metallic lurex? one shoulder draped gown from the Chanel Fall 1992 Couture collection and I fell in love. Margot Robbie wore vintage Chanel for the Oscars and so it was an easy choice for me to want to see her once again delve into the archives to wear this one shoulder moment for the 2020 Met Gala. It almost gives me a bit of a Pretty Woman vibe, but I in a very modern way. I want to make sure that the look doesn’t read dated so styling is going to have to be really on point. A sleek updo, defined eyes, soft blush pink lips, red satin Aquazzura ‘Deneuve’ ankle strap sandals, and a pair of white diamond Chanel Fine Jewelry ‘Cascade’ drop earrings would definitely make this look come to life perfectly. My final look in this set of wishes is for the beautiful Selena Gomez. It has been a really long time since I have even really liked something Selena has worn on the Met red carpet, and honestly I have never loved one of her looks. I also delved into archives for Selena picking this ice blue draped yet structured Atelier Versace Spring 1995 Couture gown which features a signature pointed bustier neckline and a really sexy thigh high split. This gown is superb. Now honestly I decided to pick this gown more as inspiration for a custom look basically remaking this iconic Versace style, but adding a really long train to the look. Now this is definitely more of an out there idea for Selena to wear on the Met red carpet since she is a friend of Louis Vuitton and they are sponsoring this years gala I would automatically assume that she will most likely wear LV on this red carpet, but I really want to see this Atelier Versace moment come to life. Styling this look with a sleek center parted bob, defined eyes, bright pink lips, silver Jimmy Choo ‘Lilah’ metallic leather strappy sandals, and a selection of Messika High Jewelry white diamonds including a pair of ‘Etoile Polaire’ stud earrings, a statement ‘Calyx’ geometric collar necklace, and a modern art deco inspired ‘Shirin’ cuff bracelet would finish this look to absolute perfection making for Selena’s best red carpet moment ever.

PARIS FASHION WEEK FALL 2020 RTW RED CARPET WISH LIST PART 3

After today I am navigating uncharted waters. This set of wishes for looks that came down the runways of Paris Fashion Week a few weeks ago really finishes out all my immediate wishes for the Fall 2020 RTW runway season. Overall I have been really impressed and honestly sad at the thought that due to the COVID-19 crisis that many of these looks will end up lost to the archives of fashion history. Even if this list is the only place we will ever get to enjoy the idea of these looks on a red carpet then so be it. At least in this time of crisis we are able to maintain a sense of fantasy when reality is do bleak.

Milan Fashion Week Fall 2020 RTW Red Carpet Wish List

As they say fashion week stops for nothing. Well this season the Coronavirus tried to shut down the bi-annual Milan Fashion Week, and only partially succeeded. While the theaters on the final day of Milan Fashion Week might have been devoid of the usual guests of editors, buyers, celebrities, and influencers the shows still went on with those aforementioned people watching the collections come down the runway via a livestream from their hotel rooms. Overall I feel like while in shear number I was disappointed in the offerings that came out of Milan, but overall the quality of moment far exceeded both New York and London. In my wishes below you will find some absolutely major wishes for which I am now sending major positive energy out into the universe to manifest the red carpet moments and keep be excited about fashion. After loosing inspiration towards the end of last year and a mostly lackluster and rushed awards season the looks below give me hope that this year will have major glamour moments in store for us.

London Fashion Week Fall 2020 RTW Red Carpet Wish List

Well fashion month is officially over, so I guess it is time to recap with some of my favorite looks from the collections. Today I wishes for 64 looks that walked the runways during London Fashion Week. We didn’t see quite as many potential red carpet moments, or anywhere near as many shows, during London Fashion Week that we did from New York, but the looks definitely have me super excited to see what the next several months are going to bring. There are looks in this wish list perfect for galas, movie premieres, press events, music award shows, the Met Gala, the Cannes Film Festival and beyond. I went through these collections to share looks for friends of the brands as well as people who immediately shot mind when I saw the looks walk the runway.

New York Fashion Week Fall 2020 RTW Red Carpet Wish List Part 1

So in a post Oscar haze it has taken a while to really soak in all of the collections and pick some superb wishes for stars to bring to life. As I pull images from the shows starts always pop through my mind. There were so many great looks that came out of New York Fashion Week this season I decided to break my wishes up into several parts (probably about 3) so the posts didn’t feel super, super long. So many looks in this list will be perfect not only for the red carpet, but also great late night show appearance looks and great street style moments. I don’t even know which of the looks below I love the most.

63 Looks From Spring 2020 Couture I Want To See On The Red Carpet

I started off Paris Haute Couture Spring 2020 Fashion Week with the intention of having a post the next morning of the favorite looks I had seen the day before with who I most want to see wearing those looks. Well life got in the way. Tuesday night I saw Celine Dion and slept as long as I could before heading to work the next day. Wednesday I had to take my mother to a doctors appointment first thing in the morning and lost my little bit of weekday morning blog time. So by then I just decided well day one is already up, but I will just do a round up including all the shows with 1-4 looks from each show being featured in one big round up list. So that is what I did. As I was putting this list together I realized that this is basically a precursor to my 2020 Cannes Film Festival wishes with major looks for L’Orealistas like Sonam Kapoor, Eva Longoria, Araya A. Hargate, Aishwarya Rai, Helen Mirren, and more to bring to life on the red carpet. It can also be a prediction for you all as it comes to what my Oscar party wishes may look like. Overall this season was very good. Aside from my now perennial favorites Givenchy and Valentino there wasn’t really much of a stand out as far as an entire collection, save maybe Armani Prive, but there were a ton of really amazing moments that are just waiting to be seen on a red carpet. I hope you are ready to see more of these looks, see some of these wishes below detailed out, and more on the race to the Oscars, Met Gala, and the Cannes Film Festival. I honestly do not know which wish here is my favorite; what’s yours?

2019 Emmy Awards Red Carpet Wish List Part 1

The 2019 Emmy Awards are coming. They will go live from the Microsoft Theater in LA two weeks from yesterday! It is going to be a big night. We will be saying our final goodbyes to some shows and cast members who have been on this red carpet for years. I definitely want to see this years red carpet wow me. I have been in a drought of red carpet glamour lately. The fashion at the Venice and Toronto Film Festivals has done nothing for me. I’m craving a major Best Dressed of the Year worthy moment. It has been too long since the last look I would consider a contender. I want more major moments. There was a look from the Emmy Awards on my Best Dressed of the Year list every year from 2011 to 2015. I am hoping that the stars of television are cooking up major moments for the red carpet this year. Amy Adams was seemingly robbed of both a Golden Globe Award and a Screen Actors Guild Award earlier this year for her role in the HBO limited series Sharp Objects. The show premiered over a year ago and I am wondering if Amy really has any steam left behind to to take home the Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited Series or Movie for her performance in the show. I want to see Amy deliver a major moment on this red carpet. Her looks during awards season were pretty, but not the outstanding moments I know and expect her to deliver on the red carpet. For this years Emmy Awards I decided to turn back to one of Amy’s dear friends, Tom Ford, for her red carpet look. Now the new CFDA president is showing his Spring 2020 RTW collection tonight at New York Fashion Week, but I would imagine that if he was dressing Amy for the Emmy’s that he would be creating something custom for her. Now regular readers will know that I love a red head in green so when I started thinking about a custom Tom Ford for Amy that was really my only requirement. I found a green Tom Ford dress online that had these amazing velvet slim leg-o-mutton sleeves on it. I did love the sleeves, but thought that it needed a bit of sparkle so when I sent the inspiration dress to Evita to work her magic I told her I wanted the gown to be fully beaded with a single velvet sleeve. She delivered this gorgeous column gown in exactly the manner I requested and it was everything I could have imagined. I do believe that this style on Amy with a sleek updo, smokey eyes, soft rose pink lips, a pair of gold Tom Ford knot-detail crystal embellished chain sandals, and vintage art deco Cartier diamond and emerald drop earrings would be a killer fashion moment on the Emmy Awards red carpet. Billy Porter is definitely a contender to be the first man to take a place on my regular Best Dressed of the Year list after his amazing custom Christian Siriano tuxedo gown he wore for the Oscars earlier this year. He has definitely become one of my favorites to see on the red carpet. He loves fashion and isn’t afraid to take a risk with it. I would love to see his bring the “unexpected” drama to the Emmy Awards red carpet where he is nominated for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series for her work on the FX series POSE. I feel like Billy is definitely ready to bring Pierpaolo Piccioli’s creative vision for Valentino to life on a red carpet. I think that he would absolutely shut down the Emmy’s red carpet with this blue and gold art nouveau pattern opera coat from the Valentino Fall 2018 Couture collection. I fell in love with this coat the moment I saw it open this show in Paris over a year ago. It hasn’t gotten a major red carpet moment to now and I feel like Billy is the perfect person to give it the daylight it deserves. I could definitely see Billy rocking the whole runway ensemble, but he also love a very tailored suit moment with his capes and trains so I personally would want to see Pierpaolo create a custom gold tuxedo for Billy to match the cape. Gwendoline Christie paid her own fees to be included in the written ballots for the 2019 Emmy nominations. HBO did not submit Gwendoline for Emmy consideration. So she took her destiny into her own hands and now she is nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series, a category dominated by her and her Game of Thrones co-stars. Now out of the GOT ladies nominated in this category I wouldn’t say that Gwendoline is the favorite to win in this category, but she bet on herself so I want to see her deliver on this red carpet. I know she knows how to wow. She has done so in the past wearing looks from Gucci and Iris Van Herpen on the red carpet. For the Emmy Awards I decided to go with a custom look for Gwendoline from Miu Miu. She closed the Miu Miu Cruise 2019 show last summer and has been a good friend to the brand. I would love to see Miuccia Prada create an absolutely gorgeous dramatically glamorous moment for Gwen to wear on the Emmy’s red carpet. Ahead of creating specific looks for people for Venice, TIFF, and the Emmy Awards I actually had Evita, who creates all the custom look photos for me, go through some of the Resort 2020 collections of brands we see on major red carpets all the time and just go wild with looks. As she would come up with ideas she would send me her edits and I would make adjustments as I thought of things. I cannot take credit for coming up with this deep purple custom Miu Miu Resort 2020 gown which took the short puffy sleeves and embellishments from the collection and created this uber glamorous creation. Given Gwendoline’s height and stature I definitely believe that this gown would be one of the greatest things that she has ever worn. it would flatter her figure and just ooze glamour especially if styled with a vintage inspired updo, defined eyes, soft pink lips, black suede and silver glitter slingback peep toe Miu Miu sandals, and vintage Harry Winston cluster drop diamond earrings. Natasha Lyonne is nominated for 3 Emmy Awards this year thanks to her Netflix series Russian Doll. She is not only nominated for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series, but also as one of she shows producers for Outstanding Comedy Series and one of the shows writers for Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series. One of these awards is handed out at the Creative Arts Emmy Awards held before the main show so Natasha could walk this red carpet on the 22nd as an Emmy Winner already. I have to say I have been loving her style lately and I am really intrigued to see what she will wear on this red carpet this year. I had it in my head since the moment I heard her name announced that Natasha was going to be wearing Proenza Schouler for this red carpet. I loved many of the details in the Proenza Schouler Resort 2020 collection and just threw a bunch of the pieces from that collection into a folder and asked Evita to cook something up. She sent me several options, but it was this look which features a harness halter neckline and an asymmetrically cut skirt with sequined pleated stripe paneling that I fell in love with immediately. The only thing about this look is that it shows more skin that Natasha typically does on the red carpet. So I said well why not add a black Proenza Schouler novelty label wool twill blazer over her shoulders like a cape? It adds that coverage we expect from Natasha, while also infusing a bit of menswear inspiration which is another of her red carpet signatures. I would finish this look with full teased out curls, defined eyes, red lips, a black Tyler Ellis ‘Jaime’ clutch with gold hardware, a pair of Gianvito Rossi t-bar pointed toe pumps, and a selection of Nikos Koulis ‘Feelings’ collection jewels including yellow gold snake cluster earrings with white diamonds and a yellow gold cocktail ring with white diamonds to make sure this look balances edge and glamour in the perfect manner. Last up for today is Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series nominee Phoebe Waller Bridge. I can honestly say I don’t know much about Phoebe or her style, but I am sure that we are going to get to know her and it well over the coming months. It seems like she might be the leading contender to win in this category and I wanted to make sure that I had a glamorous winners moment for her to wear on this red carpet. I wanted to put the British actress in a British designer and so I turned to my favorite British label Erdem. I can always count on Erdem to bring feminine glamour to the red carpet and he knows how to deliver a custom moment on the red carpet as well. I took inspiration for this black and white gown from an ensemble from the Erdem Resort 2020 collection which featured the same bow shoulder hammered silk bodice with a a white pearl embellished bow on the hip and silk pencil skirt with crystal encrusted floral appliques. For this gown I decided the smooth black silk of the skirt was perfect for this gown loosing the peplum from the original bodice turning into a floor length column gown and adding the dramatic white side sash that drapes into a train. I actually knew just exactly what I wanted this gown to look like that I actually sketched it out (very poorly I might add) for Evita so she knew exactly what I wanted. She sent this gown and I was immediately sold on it as the perfect look for Phoebe to wear on the Emmy Awards red carpet. A sleek center parted bob tucked behind the ears, defined eyes, rich crimson red lips, a black Bottega Veneta satin chain knot minaudiere, simple black Aquazzura ‘So Nude’ slingback sandals, and a pair of art deco platinum set white diamond dangle earrings circa 1920’s I found on 1stDibs would finish this look in the most perfect manner from head to toe. Just give her the Emmy to complete this ensemble.

The 2019 Emmy Awards will take place on Sunday September 22, 2019.

2019 Television Critics Association Awards Red Carpet Wish List

Before we start getting into multiple day wish lists tomorrow I have a list for one of the smaller awards events that is coming up. The Television Critics Association Awards are an awards show that I typically gloss over and if the nominees had been any less fabulous than they were this year I would have skipped right over this list. It has only one acting category and I definitely think that the winner is invited in advance. I don’t know if we can expect to see all the stars on this list at the event since they are all from just two categories. Despite that fact I definitely have some wishes for the ladies nominated to bring to life on this red carpet. Here we go!Amy Adams is nominated for her performance in Sharp Objects. I was honestly expecting to see Amy sweep awards season and then finish with an Emmy for her role in the HBO mini series, but it seems Amy’s curse is upon her and she is being passed over for wins yet again. If she isn’t going to win the trophy I at least want to see her win the red carpet. For the Television Critics Association (TCA) Awards I went with a classic Amy shape with this strapless Brandon Maxwell pencil tea length dress which features frayed trip on the neckline, but it does it in a very different way for her being rendered in black and white animal print silk. I know that the cheetah print isn’t usually something that Amy would wear on a red carpet, but I think that the chic silhouette and the fact it is all black and white that this gown would work perfectly for this red carpet. Sleek old Hollywood waves, defined eyes, red lips, a black satin Christian Louboutin ‘Palmette’ clutch, a pair of black Christian Louboutin ‘Follies’ embellishes lace mesh pointed toe pumps, and Hueb ‘Luminous’ diamond cluster earrings are what I would add to this look to make sure that this look is absolute perfection for Amy from head to toe. Jodie Comer from Killing Eve is one I am really excited to see on the red carpet this fall. Her journey to the Emmy’s is expected to start at the TCA Awards and I just hope her fashion choices are better than they have been. I haven’t liked looks from labels like Ralph & Russo and Giambattista Valli that Jodie has worn this year and honestly it shocks me. She is an absolutely gorgeous woman and those are some of my favorite labels, but the looks from them that she has chosen have done her no favors. I want to see her deliver some uber chic moments on the red carpet in the coming weeks and this is the red carpet where that journey should start. Now for this red carpet I decided to stick with the more feminine and bohemian styles that Jodie has embraced for many of her looks this year opting for this antique white Brock Collection Resort 2020 lace and organza peplum midi dress which features a ruffled bustier top, peplum waist, ties at back, and thin straps. I believe that it is the perfect look for Jodie as it will still fit her figure. Many of her looks have overwhelmed her frame, but this look would not. A loose romantic updo, defined eyes, rose pink lips, a pair of gold Aquazzura ‘Oscar C’ mirrored leather criss-cross sandals, and Hanut Singh ‘Lotus Buds’ drop earrings which feature green amethysts, diamonds, and vintage pearls with gold chain detailing would all make this the perfect flirty and feminine bohemian moment for Jodie to bring to life on this red carpet. I go back and forth about whether or not I am excited to see Michelle Williams on the red carpet this fall awards season. She is a loyal devotee to Louis Vuitton, and often times I find her looks underwhelming but I am hopeful that as one of the “movie stars” nominated for her performance on Television that will mean she brings super chic “movie star” moments to the red carpet in the coming weeks. Now typically the TCA Awards red carpet is more of a laid back cocktail or simplistic gown moment. As you can see in this list I have gone more for a cocktail moment for everyone, until now. Over the summer so far my photoshop wiz Evita has been slaying the days creating all kinds of custom fashion moments for me to use for the next several months. I had her keep Michelle in mind as I figured that she would be seen a lot over the coming weeks as her performance in Fosse/Verdon is being celebrated. I was sitting at my desk at my day job as Evita was sending me her edits and when I saw this custom Louis Vuitton Cruise 2020 metallic lurex gown which features an embellished neckline, Chrysler building inspired print on the bodice, and and a simple silhouette I got really excited. It is an absolutely glamorous moment and I feel like it would make for a chic moment for Michelle to wear on this red carpet. She doesn’t really breathe life into gowns so they have to do a lot of the work for her and I definitely think that this gown would be able to do the work. Finish it with a sleek side parted pixie, thick defined eyes, red lips, black Louis Vuitton ‘Overnight’ crystal embellished monogram chain strap platform sandals, and a pair of Louis Vuitton High Jewelry ‘Le Royaume’ diamond drop earrings and I definitely believe that Michelle will have a very glamorous moment on her hands. Natasha Lyonne is one star I am really excited to see on the red carpets in the coming weeks. The red head knows how to rock a suit on the red carpet. I have been going back and forth on whether or not to pick a pants look for her to wear for the Emmy Awards, but it was an easy choice to do it for her for the TCA Awards. I love this sharp black Ronald Van Der Kemp Fall 2019 Couture suit which features wide lapels, strong pointed shoulders, big pockets, and flared leg pants and definitely think it would be something cool for Natasha to wear for this red carpet. I would add a sleek sheer black satin Ralph Lauren button down structured shirt, a black satin The Row ‘The Ascot’ top handle evening clutch, a pair of black Malone Souliers ‘Marguerite’ pointed toe mules, and Anita Ko ‘Rain Drop’ diamond fringe earrings to really make this look perfect for Natasha to bring to life on this red carpet.

The 2019 Television Critics Association Awards will take place on Saturday August 3, 2019.
