2021 SAG Awards Red Carpet Wish List Part 2

It has been a whirlwind this year seeing how the different major award shows adapted to still go on amidst the global pandemic. There was the hybrid virtual nominees and in person presenters presented from both coast of the United States, the fully remote Critics Choice Awards, and the scaled back yet in person Grammy Awards. Each award show so far has taken their own path with accommodating the public health orders across the country and the world. The Screen Actors Guild has decided not to do any sort of live event, which is totally different. Instead they will be airing a one hour special that will be pre-recoreded. So these wishes are really just thoughts about what I would like to see as I am sure that portions of the show have already been recorded. As we move closer to this weekends event let’s dive into the wishes I have today for looks I would love to see worn for the SAG Awards. Anya Taylor Joy’s performance as Beth Harmon in The Queen’s Gambit has earned her both a Golden Globe and a Critics Choice Award. She has done so turning back to the same label Christian Dior Couture for both shows. It would not surprise me in the least if she will not be the next face of Dior, maybe the Miss Dior fragrance. It would actually shock me if Anya wore anything other than Dior for the SAG Awards special. I’ve loved this white and black sequined silk tulle Christian Dior Fall 2020 Couture spaghetti strap tea length ballgown since I first saw it. It was presented as a miniature collection on doll sized mannequins, but I would love to see the Dior ateliers take this miniature and create the full version for Anya. It is glamorous and sophisticated with a little bit of sex appeal. The vintage inspired nature of this gown blends together the iconic style sensibilities of both Audrey Hepburn and Marilyn Monroe. To really make this look perfection I would style it with a sleek rose inspired updo, defined eyes, bold red lips, a pair of white satin Aquazzura ‘Celeste 105’ strappy crystal embellished sandals, and a selection of Bulgari jewels including simple white diamond and emerald drop earrings and a delicate white diamond ‘Wings of Rome’ feather inspired necklace. It would be DRAMA and GLAMOUR defined. Cynthia Erivo has shown up for the Golden Globes, Critics Choice, and Grammy Awards this year and has served a MAJOR look at each. For the Globes she wore a neon green Valentino Couture neoprene tea length gowncustom lace and tulle Vera Wang for the Critics Choice Awards, and then a gorgeous silver and gold sequin and bead embellished custom Louis Vuitton gown for the Grammy’s. Each look she’s served could easily be a Best Dressed of the Year contender and I cannot wait to see what she has in store for us next when she is a presenter at the SAG Awards this weekend. I would love to see Cynthia go for bold dazzle wearing this black and silver Elie Saab Spring 2021 Couture one sleeve sheer ballgown which features a 3D feather inspired feather detail on the neckline and a zebra inspired pattern. I feel like this moment is a major statement moment and Cynthia would definitely be able to sell it to me with ease. Now with this gown I would LOVE to see Cynthia style this gown with her signature bleached buzz cut, thick defined eyes, deep red glossy lips, black Roger Vivier ‘Mini Broche Vivier Buckle’ peep toe platform ankle strap sandals with a chunky clear crystal embellished plexi heel, a Maria Tash ‘Apsara Clicker’ white diamond septum ring, and a selection of MAJOR Djula jewels including a pair of white diamond cluster fan earrings, a single ear with top and side white diamond ear cuffs, and a selection of white diamond rings strewn about all her fingers to really make this another major fashion moment from the powerhouse. Dan Levy has also served up LOOKS this awards season. He’s strayed away from the typical menswear looks wearing canary yellow Valentino Couture wool and sequins for the Globes and victorian military inspired Dior Men for the Critics Choice Awards and each one is a Best Dressed of the Year worthy ensemble. I am expecting him to take home an Actor trophy for Outstanding Performance by an Actor in a Comedy Series this weekend and I want to see him do so in high style. I turned back to Valentino picking this very classic cut black Valentino Fall 2021 RTW tuxedo that was styled with a see through sequin mesh turtleneck on the runway. Now I don’t know if Dan is exactly the see through mesh on no undershirt kind of guy, and I am leaning towards no. So I’ve been wondering what I would like to see. Part of me want’s to see Valentino create a custom black liquid sequin top to layer under it or just go with a classic white t-shirt. Both would be cool moments and I am leaning towards the white t-shirt. His black thick rimmed glasses, the runways black leather boots, and a statement vintage white diamond Harry Winston flower brooch would make this a MAJOR menswear moment for Dan to bring to this “red carpet.”Lily Collins is presenting at this years SAG Awards after helping announce this years nominees. It will be the first time Lily is partaking in a SAG Awards ceremony and I want to se her doing so in flirtatious glamour. I wasn’t the biggest fan of the bohemian glam custom Saint Laurent gown that Lily wore for the Golden Globe Awards. I know she has so much more in her. I would love to see her deliver this black and blush pink ombre asymmetrical Alexander McQueen Resort 2021 a-line cocktail length gown with an asymmetrical neck and a bow detail on the hip. It screams feminine glamour and that is what I feel like Lily serves up the best on the red carpet. While for most red carpets in and out of lockdown I don’t prefer gowns that don’t reach the floor I feel like the SAG Awards that a cocktail length gown is appropriate, especially for a presenter. I feel like with a sleek romantic updo, defined eyes, bold lips using Lancôme L’Absolu Rouge Lipstick Drama Matte in Rose Lancôme, blush pink Alexander McQueen crystal ankle strap sandals, and a pair of Anabela Chan ‘Diamond Supernova’ white diamond, white sapphire, and ivory pearl chandelier earrings would make sure this look is flirty and glamorous from head to toe. Maria Bakalova was one of the new faces among the list of nominees this year and it turns out she is quite the fashionista. She has rocked some major glam moments during awards season so far with a raspberry red crystal embellished tulle Armani Prive ballgown and a black velvet Prada gown with a crystal tassel bow and I cannot wait to see what else lies in store for her over the course of awards season. I feel like custom is in her sights for the SAG Awards. Maybe Gucci or Dior. I wasn’t totally thrilled or inspired with anything that I saw, except for this white Marchesa Spring 2021 RTW orchid purple and grey hand painted floral print ball gown which features a statement crystal embellished halter neckline, open back, a-line skirt, and a sweeping train. I don’t know if Maria would wear Marchesa, but her stylist Jessica Paster would option the brand for other clients so I decided to throw caution to the wind and pick this gorgeous gown for Maria. While Marchesa still has the tainted stain of the Harvey Weinstein scandal on it I think that this moment on Maria would be perfect especially if styled with a sleek side parted updo, defined eyes, soft pink lips, silver crystal embellished Giuseppe Zanotti wrap-around ankle strap sandals, and a pair of sleek and glamorous Graziela Gems ‘Navete’ white diamond wreath hoop earrings.

The 2021 SAG Awards special will broadcast on Sunday April 4, 2021. You can see all my wishes for this years show here.

2021 Critics Choice Awards Red Carpet Wish List Part 3

So the Golden Globes were last night and I have to say that even though I went into it with low expectations I was quite happy with what we ended up seeing. While all of the nominees, and a few of the presenters, joined the show via Zoom it still felt very normal. It has me excited for the rest of awards season. Several of the people in this set of wishes took home trophy’s last night and I cannot wait to see what they wear for the Critics Choice awards this coming weekend. Kicking things off today is Anya Taylor Joy who took home the Best Actress in a Limited Series or TV Movie award last night for her performance in The Queen’s Gambit. She did so wearing a custom emerald green vintage inspired Christian Dior Couture look. I want to see Anya take to the Critics Choice Awards where she is nominated for the same award giving us fairy glam wearing this lavender Elie Saab Spring 2021 Couture sleeveless feathered skater dress with a high neck and a dramatic chiffon cape. I so would not pick this dress for any other person for a major film/tv awards red carpet, but Anya’s sprite like elegance just spoke to me when I saw this dress. Out of any of the awards Anya is, or could be, nominated for the Critics Choice is really the only one where this dress would work. I would let the dress be the statement of this moment styling the gown with a sleek side parted updo, defined eyes, glossy nude pink lips, a pair of silver Roger Vivier ‘Marlene Strass’ ankle strap sandals, and simple halo set Norman Silverman emerald cut white diamond stud earrings. Catherine O’Hara was also a big winner last night picking up the Best Actress in a Comedy Series trophy wearing a custom rose print Vera Wang suit. Now compared to that this black and red AZ Factory Spring 2021 RTW long sleeve gown which features a drop waist, exposed zipper, and a full pleated ball skirt is like 3x as glamorous. I will say the first thing I thought when I saw this gown was that it was too similar to the custom Schiaparelli Couture gown that Lady Gaga wore for the Inauguration of President Joe Biden that it would never be worn, but when I thought of Catherine wearing this gown I thought it would be perfect. Now I really do wish that Catherine would bring a super dramatic glamour moment to life. I feel like her wearing this gown would feel perfect. Style it with a sleek updo, defined eyes, red lips, an pair of black crystal embellished mesh Sergio Rossi ‘SR1’ pointed toe pumps, and a statement sugarloaf cabochon chalcedony, hexagonal white agate hoop, carnelian plaque, brilliant-cut diamond, and 18K gold David Webb retro inspired link necklace and It would scream glamour from head to toe. Leslie Odom Jr. might not have taken home a Golden Globe last night but he served up a LOOK. His stylist Avo had him as one of the first gentleman to wear a Valentino Couture look that is pretty much hot off the runway. I won’t like and say I thought it would have been more apt for a red carpet like the Critics Choice or the SAG Awards, but it was a really freaking cool look. Now with that in mind I would love to see him keep up taking sartorial risks turning to the bad boy of menswear Thom Browne for this look for this weekends Critics Choice Awards. I love this black shrunken tuxedo paired with a crisp white shirt and black bow tie. It is basically a classic tuxedo, but done so with shrunken proportions. It’s cool and elegant. I definitely can see Leslie rocking this look and honestly the only thing I would change about the styling is swapping the plain black oxfords for a pair of black and white Thom Browne woven leather brogues. It’s been a while since we’ve seen Uzo Aduba on a red carpet. I hate that lockdown stole the promo tour from Mrs. America from us and is stealing awards season red carpets from us. I will say that after last night I am more hopeful that stars will dress up and have fun and serve glamour this awards. I have always felt that Uzo gives her best looks when she is wearing bold solid colors and so when I was looking for the perfect Critics Choice Awards gown for her I fell in love with the idea of seeing her in this fuschia silk Alberta Ferretti Resort 2021 one shoulder draped gown. It is glamorous and I just feel like it would flow over her gorgeous curves beautifully. I would take this gown and style it with a bun of braids, defined eyes, nude lips, a fuchsia crystal embellished Judith Leiber Couture ‘Slim Slide’ clutch, fuschia pink Amina Muaddi ‘Romy 95’ crystal trimmed scalloped edge pointed toe pumps, and dazzling Anabela Chan chandelier earrings in 18k rose gold vermeil with 18k gold earring posts, hand-set with an array of laboratory-grown synthesised and simulated gemstones including rubies, pink and orange sapphires with rose tourmalines to ensure that this look screams colorful glamour from head to toe for Uzo. Vanessa Kirby closes out today’s wishes. I know that Vanessa has a very simple and sleek approach to dressing, but I want her to put on some beads and crystals and really dazzle us. So I would love to see the Best Actress nominee wearing this black fully beaded Ulyana Sergeenko Spring 2021 Couture strapless bustier gown with intricate floral detail, draped hips with fringe, and a thigh high split. It is old Hollywood glamour at its best and I know that it would be an absolutely perfect moment for Vanessa to wear for a red carpet like the Critics Choice Awards. I would make this look scream glamour styling it with a sleek hairstyle tucked behind her ears, defined eyes, nude lips, a pair of strappy black Christian Louboutin ‘Tarlatarte’ PVC detailed strappy sandals, and dazzling white diamond and ruby Amwaj chandelier earrings.

The 2021 Critics Choice Awards will take place on Sunday March 7, 2021. You can find all of my wishes for this red carpet here.

2021 Golden Globe Awards Red Carpet Wish List Part 11

Starting tomorrow I am going to take a two day break in my Golden Globe Awards wishes to get into another event quickly, but before that I have a couple more wishes for nominees (and one confirmed presenter) for this years Globes. I am still crossing my fingers that we are going to see some major fashion moments this year despite the fact that all of the nominees will be joining the show remotely. Anya Taylor Joy just might nab the Best Performance by an Actress in a Limited Series, Anthology Series or a Motion Picture Made for Television award for her performance in The Queen’s Gambit. She is also nominated for Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy thanks to her role in Emma. This is a major accomplishment for the actress who has never been nominated for a Golden Globe before. I cannot wait to see what Anya will wear for this years Golden Globes because her stylist Law Roach definitely isn’t afraid to have his clients serve up DRAMA even if they are just joining a show remotely. It was really a no brainer for me to pick this major late 60’s meets bohemian glamour moment from the Giambattista Valli Spring 2021 Couture collection to life for the Globes. I love the sheer blouse with blouson sleeves and big green satin bows and the ball skirt with a an intricate leaf embroidered pattern and a sweeping train of this look. It isn’t an east look to pull off at all, but I think that Anya has the avant garde sensibility to really make a gown like this come to life especially if she styled it with a sleek side parted updo, defined eyes, bold red lips, green satin Roger Vivier ‘I Love Vivier’ pointed toe pumps, and vintage Bulgari emerald and white diamond flower cluster earrings. Jane Levy is also a first time Golden Globe nominee this year. Her performance in Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist has earned this beautiful redhead a nomination for Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series – Musical or Comedy so I want to see her bring an incredibly glamorous look to the screen. I was looking around at some of the labels available at PR showrooms in LA that I thought could be a good fit for Jane and found this deep blood red Gurav Gupta column gown which features an asymmetrical scarf cap sleeve neckline and heavy beading and fell in love. I think there is nothing that can be sexier and more glamorous than a redhead in a deep red gown. It screams film nior siren and I can definitely imagine this look becoming a major glamour moment. To put the perfect finishing touches to this look I would include a loose curly romantic updo, thick smokey defined eyes, antique rose pink lips, burgundy sequin and velvet vintage Gucci by Tom Ford peep toe ankle strap sandals, and Sutra ‘Mosaic’ collection ruby drop earrings. To say I was SHOCKED that Kate Hudson got nominated for Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy for her performance in the controversial film Music. Now I haven’t seen the movie yet and not sure I plan to, but I do always love seeing Kate and I want to see her bring sleek and sexy glamour to the Golden Globes wearing this black liquid sequin Alexandre Vauthier Spring 2020 RTW strapless column gown which features a cutout exposed back and a center split. I have loved this gown since it was first presented and I definitely think that Kate has the glamorous presence to really make this look work even if she she is just zooming into this years Golden Globe Awards. I would love to see Kate take this gown and style it with old Hollywood waves worn over one shoulder, defined eyes, bold red lips, a pair of black Christian Louboutin ‘Mafaldina Spikes 100’ silver spike studded asymmetric ankle strap sandals, and a statement white diamond Cartier art deco inspired high jewelry necklace. Even more shocking than Kate’s nomination for Music was the fact that the Hollywood Foreign Press Association nominated the film itself for Best Motion Picture – Musical/Comedy. So yea I am sure that had there been a red carpet this year that we would have seen the movies director Sia on the red carpet and we just might see her Zoom into this years ceremony. When I was thinking I about what I would have wanted to see Sia wearing on this red carpet I knew that it had to be dramatic and over the top. Enter this pink and white floral print Juana Martin Spring 2021 Couture long sleeve mermaid gown which features ruffle details on the cuff and hem. I discovered this label when I was looking at collections presented during Paris Haute Couture Virtual Fashion Week. It definitely falls in line with Sia’s crazy insane sense of style so with a sleek avant garde hairstyle, defined eyes, bright pink lips, a pair of white Dr. Martens lace up combat boots, dazzling white diamond Yeprem ‘Chevalier’ cluster wreath earrings, and a dramatic huge candy pink wavy bow fascinator from the Etsy store Hats by Cressida and this look would be avant garde glam defined. Renee Zellweager will be on hand this year as one of the presenters at the Golden Globe Awards after taking home the Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture – Drama trophy last year. The HFPA has asked that all of the presenters do attend in person either at the Beverly Hilton in LA, where co-host Amy Poehler will be holding down the fort, or from the Rainbow Room in New York City, where it will be Tina Fey holding things down as the co-host. So I am really praying that when they do that they will bring LOOKS. When it comes to fashion Renee isn’t know for making waves, but she does make really glamorous choices. I’ve basically been mentally reserving this pale pearl pink Brandon Maxwell Spring 2021 RTW strapless column gown with a bright orange bow detailed waist for Renee ever since we first saw it presented back in December. I know this look is perfect for her and the pairing of the two Texans would be a match made in heaven. Styled with a sleek center parted updo, defined eyes, glossy nude lips, a pair of shimmering blush pink Jimmy Choo ‘Emsy 85’ strappy peep toe sandals, and a Chopard Red Carpet Collection white diamond flower collar necklace this look would scream glamour from head to toe.

The 2021 Golden Globe Awards will take place on Sunday February 28, 2021. You can see all of my wishes for this years event here.

2021 AFI Awards Red Carpet Wish List Part 1

One of the first events of awards season is typically one of the most casual. The week before the Golden Globe Awards the American Film Institute honors the top films and television programs with a luncheon. There aren’t categories at this event just the honors the programs so the air is very different than many of the other awards events. There isn’t the same pressure to have the winning look. The guests usually bring some superb luncheon fashion moments. Now this year the AFI Awards will have a virtual event, but I am going to continue to dream about what could have been on this red carpet with a couple of wish lists full of major moments for the stars of the programs who will be honored.  Anya Taylor Joy’s performance in The Queen’s Gambit is definitely what made this mini-series make the list of the AFI’s Top TV Programs this year. I always love to see Anya on a red carpet because of her quirky sense of style. When I was thinking what I would love to see Anya bring to life for a luncheon red carpet my mind immediately went to this black layered eyelet lace Loewe Spring 2021 RTW dress with v-neckline, ruffled sleeves, and an a-line skirt immediately popped into my mind. I felt like this would definitely speak to that very quirky side of Anya’s style. The dress isn’t exactly easy to pull off, but I feel like the effortlessness of Anya’s demeanor would easily make this a major moment for her. A sleek side parted knotted bun updo, defined eyes, soft pink lips, a pair of black and floral print Aquazzura ‘Rendez Vous’ gold strap pointed toe mules, and Irene Neuwirth Gemmy Gem Collection one of a kind pair of 18k yellow and white gold chandelier earrings set with beryl, emeralds, pink and green tourmaline, full cut diamonds, and finished with diamond pavé hooks would finish this look perfectly. Bridgerton took the world by storm with its Christmas Day release. Since then it has become the most streamed show Netflix has ever had with a record 82 million households reached around the world. So it comes as no surprise that the show was honored with the title of one of the AFI Top TV Programs of 2020. Nicola Coughlan has definitely come out of this as a true fashion girl. She is working with stylist Aimee Croysdill and giving us looks from major fashion labels like Simone Rocha, Dolce & Gabbana, Alberta Ferretti, Batsheva, and more. So I am really looking forward to the days of in person red carpets again so that we can see all the lewks that Nicola could bring to the red carpet. For this red carpet I went for something soft and feminine for the look I would have loved to see from Nicola with this yellow daisy print Giambattista Valli Resort 2021 RTW long sleeve chiffon dress which features long sleeves, an floating a-line skirt, keyhole neckline detail, and cummerbund style waist. It gives me slight vibes of her Bridgerton  character Penelope Featherington but in a modern way. I feel like I would definitely love seeing this curvy, blond bombshell bringing this feminine moment to dress to life on the red carpet. A soft romantic casual updo, defined eyes, bright pink glossy lips, a yellow by FAR ‘Mini Custard’ croc embossed leather top handle bag, a pair of soft yellow Fendi ‘Colibri’ sheer paneled pointed toe pumps, and simple yellow gold set Norman Silverman white diamond flower stud earrings would definitely have added the perfect finishing touches to this look for Nicola.Bridgerton‘s duchess herself Phoebe Dynevor is becoming a fashion girl herself as well. She was part of the virtual front row for the Christian Dior Couture show and has been embraced by Chanel. So I know that she will be serving looks on the red carpet as soon as red carpets can start again. Had there been a red carpet for the AFI Awards I would have loved to see Phoebe rock this ivory satin Emilia Wickstead Spring 2021 RTW ‘Xena’ navy boat pattern printed sleeveless dress with an a-line silhouette, square neckline, and a mini hemline. It is simple and chic and that is exactly what works perfectly for the AFI Awards red carpet. Creating the perfect red carpet moment with a sleek side parted updo, defined eyes, nude pink lips, a navy velvet Christian Dior ‘Mini Lady Dior’ cannage quilted top handle bag, navy ombre glitter Jimmy Choo ‘Love 100’ pointed toe pumps, and Mateo New York 14K gold and white diamond huggie earrings with detachable pearl drops would ensure that Phoebe definitely continues to show she is really a fashion girl. Regina King’s feature film directorial debut One Night In Miami is on the list of the AFI Awards Best Films of 2020 and I and couldn’t be more excited about the possibility of another awards season run for her. For this more casual event I would have loved to see Regina give us this super cool Carolina Herrera Pre-Fall 2021 moment which features a black and white polka dotted short sleeve knitted silk wool cotton shirt and a pair of grey and white pleated zebra printed crepe wide leg trousers with a wide black belted waist. I originally had a dress on this list for Regina, but this cool moment definitely spoke to Regina’s sense of style to me. This is definitely not the usual look we see at the AFI Awards, but I really do think it would have been the perfect look for Regina to bring to life with a bun of braids, defined eyes, deep red glossy lips, black Christian Louboutin ‘Bingirl 130’ platform chunky sandals, and 18k white gold Djula ‘2 Sun’ white diamond detailed hoop earrings. It isn’t often we see couture at the AFI Awards since it is a casual luncheon setting and couture for noon is more reserved for photocalls in Cannes as opposed to luncheons in LA. That being said I felt drawn to freshly presented Chanel Spring 2021 Couture Unorthodox star Shira Haas. She has proved herself to be quite the Chanel girl after wearing several looks from the French luxury house last year including couture for the virtual Emmy Awards. I thought this black and gold tweed ensemble which features a sleeveless double breasted vest with big gold button and boot cut trousers was a very chic moment and I think that it would bring some cool girl couture to the AFI Awards red carpet. Styled with Shira’s buzz cut, soft lined eyes, nude lips, a pair of black patent leather Chanel gold button detailed loafers, and a Repossi ‘Serti Sur Vide’ 18k rose gold & white diamond ear cuff it would just ooze cool girl chic. Finishing out today’s wishes is Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom star Viola Davis. I always love seeing Viola on the red carpet because she has an immense love of color. So thinking about Viola wearing this bold royal purple knit Jason Wu Spring 2021 RTW short sleeve fitted dress with a round neckline. This was was one of the few looks from this collection that I really did love and I feel like it would be a beautiful moment on Viola. The way the knit would hug her curves and the color would look against her skin I just imagine. A full short afro, defined eyes, bold red lips, black oil slick Gianvito Rossi ‘Plexi 105’ patent leather and PVC pointed toe pumps, and a pair of Nakard Marabou ‘Bypass’ sterling silver set Ethiopian opal hoop earrings would make this look come together perfectly for what the AFI Awards red carpet should be.

The 2021 AFI Awards will be a virtual event with a benediction on February 26, 2021.

10 Best Collections of Spring 2021 – Christopher John Rogers

In the official “Fashion Month” line up Christopher John Rogers swooped in and presented one of my favorite collections of the season. He decided not to show in he well earned perch on the schedule during New York Fashion Week, but it was well worth the wait. He won the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Award last year and the CFDA Emerging Designer of the Year award this year. I have been captivated with every collection CJR has presented, and this was no different. He LOVES drama and color. That was on display this season for sure. In a Zoom interview with VOGUE Runway’s Janelle Okwodu he said “Part of the reason why the collections have been so well-received is that they’ve been quite visceral in terms of the way they were conceived. [Our team] has been like, ‘This feels exciting, we enjoy this’ instead of investigating why.” I feel like this is what designers really should do. I was just talking with friends about how commercialized many of the biggest houses are. They have a formula that they know sells and even houses like Alexander McQueen who hold avant garde creativity at their core seem to have become redundant. Christopher John Rogers does not. Each season seems like a new experiment in the codes that he has set for his house. Drama, color, femininity, and structure. These are the core of what CJR is all about and this season delivered exactly that in a way we haven’t seen from him yet. He embraced abstract pattern and a myriad of bold primary colors this season. “I was away for four months and couldn’t do anything physical with my hands, so I just bought crayons and color pencils and started scribbling like I was a kid,” Rogers said to VOGUE Runway. “I wasn’t trying to create anything specific; I just wanted to have fun and express myself. It’s about getting back to the way children see the world through very simple shapes. They put energy on the page when they draw, so this was about simplifying and translating that energy into the clothes.”  The colors and patterns elevated basics that I definitely think will sell. The more glamorous and red carpet worthy looks are AMAZING as well. There is a lot of red carpet potential in these looks. So continue to read to find out who I want to see bringing this collection to life out of the lookbook and on the red carpet. Mixing bold floral pattern with a padded tulip hip skirt this thin strap tea length gown is definitely one of the best looks from this collection. It did immediately make me think of a Rosie Assoulin Spring 2017 gown that was worn by Naomie Harris; mostly because of the fluorescent floral pattern and the hips. Now this look is far from easy to pull off. I would love to task the gorgeous Kerry Washington with bringing this look to life on a red carpet. I feel like she has the presence to really make this look work. With a sleek cropped center parted bob, defined eyes, deep red glossy lips, a blush satin Jimmy Choo ‘Cloud’ pearl flower embellished frame box clutch, a pair of gold Jimmy Choo ‘Tesca 100’ strappy sandals, and glamorous MATEO New York 14k gold and white pearl curve form drop earrings this look would be absolutely MAJOR.

Now while pattern and texture is a hallmark of this collection there were some really good solid colored pieces as well. One of them was this traffic stopping orange strapless gown which features a column front and a draped cape back. Orange is such a bold color to wear anytime of day, but especially for evening. There are only a handful of orange red carpet looks I love, but I can imagine that his is going to be a major red carpet moment when it gets worn. I would love to see Danai Gurira be the person who brings this look out of the lookbook and onto the red carpet. She knows how to handle drama and color and I can just imagine how good this look would be. I would style this look with a major sculpted updo, smokey eyes, glossy nude lips, a pair of matching orange Giuseppe Zanotti ‘Neyla’ ankle strap sandals, and a MAJOR exquisite necklace of undulated design, with emeralds, diamonds, and pearls, the central emerald weighing 4.5 carats, while the diamonds 25 carats total, mounted on 18kt yellow gold. Made in Italy, circa 1965 sourced from vintage jewelry dealer Eleuteri. Not all of Christopher John Rogers gowns are all about unapologetic glamour and drama. Sometimes they evoke more a laid back causal vibe, but they always make a statement. Case and point? This camisole slip gown which is sand colored from the front, but explodes into a color-blocked rainbow in the back. Now this gown isn’t something I would expect to see on a major awards season red carpet, but I feel like Gabrielle Union would definitely rock it for a gala fundraiser. I took inspiration from the laid back vibe of the look for the styling. I would love to see Gabrielle rock the red carpet in this gown styled with a big high bun of braids, defined eyes, deep burgundy glossy lips, a pair of black and brown Brother Vellies ‘Midnight Woven Olivia’ chain detail ankle strap pumps, and statement 18K Rose Gold set Fernando Jorge ‘Comet’ waterfall earrings made up of white diamonds and lapis lazuli.

I was looking at this sand quilted silk strapless tulip skirt tea length gown I couldn’t get Zendaya out of my head. I would have just gone on with using her as the pick, but the shape is so similar to the Christopher John Rogers gown that she wore for the Emmy’s last month I wanted to branch out. I was obsessed with this look as it was one of the tame-er looks from this collection and I feel like Anya Taylor Joy would take this gown and really deliver it on a red carpet. I feel like in the line up of stars I’ve picked to wear this collection that Anya stands out for sure, but I feel like she has the presence to really make this gown come to life. Style it with a loose romantic updo, defined eyes, soft pink glossy lips, a pair of light gold crystal embellished Sophia Webster ‘Giovanna’ cross strap slingback sandals, and a statement Bulgari ‘Barocko’ collection white diamond and multicolored precious stone necklace for a pop of color and I know that this could be one of the best Christopher John Rogers red carpet moments ever.Tessa Thompson was wearing Christopher John Rogers before he was cool. Since he hit the mainstream we haven’t seen Tessa rock a look from his collections. I want that to change. I cannot recall Tessa ever giving us a big princess moment on the red carpet, so why not ask her to give it to us wearing this black ballgown with bright neon piping detail all over the bodice. I feel like this look is a very modern take on the ballgown and that is what I think would make it such a cool look for Tessa to rock on the red carpet. I would go left with the styling opting for a half up and down braided hairstyle, defined eyes, nude lips, a pair of black croc chunky platform Christian Louboutin ‘Foolish’ sandals, and a statement rainbow ombre Pomellato ‘Gourmette Caméléon’ chain choker made of a list of precious and semi precious stones to long to go through. It would definitely be a super cool moment for her to bring to life.

Now I had to put this wish into the universe to finish out this review. The moment I saw this neon color-blocked knit catsuit with bullseye detail on the breast my mind immediately went to Cardi B. I could see her rocking this with a matching fur coat for street style or on its own as a performance ensemble. I know the looks is something she would be drawn to and I would love to see her rock this with custom mismatched orange and yellow Christian Louboutin ‘Round Chick Alta 120’ platform peep toe half d’Orsay ankle strap pumps, long sleek center parted locks, crazy nails done in matching colors, defined smokey eyes, and bold red lips. What do you think about this collection? Who would you like to see bring looks from this collection to life on the red carpet?

“The New Mutants” Premiere Red Carpet Wish List

The New Mutants after having several cancelled is finally going to be released, theatrically none the less. I actually already picked looks for a premiere of this movie last year for its premiere that was inevitably cancelled and postponed. This movie was going to be released earlier this year, but due to the pandemic was pushed back. I honestly didn’t think that this film was going to be released at all, but it has shown it is the little movie that could. It could save the summer blockbuster season. Now while the film is going to be released theatrically it doesn’t seem like there will be a big red carpet premiere, even a socially distanced one. So my wishes below are most likely pure fantasy, but as I’ve continually said why not live in a fantasy right now? I’ve loved everything that Anya Taylor Joy has worn this year. She has a very avant garde spirit and stylist Law Roach has really embraced it. I am most sad that she will not get a major red carpet to rock for this premiere. I know that she and Law would have cooked up something major. When I saw this yellow and white beaded fringe one shoulder Atelier Versace Fall 2020 Couture mini dress which features a sash draped sleeve I knew I found a major moment I feel like Anya would deliver it with a sense of innocence and wood nymph whimsy. It is a little on the sexier side than we are used to seeing from Anya, but I feel like her light innocence would overtake the super sexiness of this dress. Style it with a loose romantic updo, defined eyes, soft pink lips, a pair of nude crystal embellished Rene Caovilla ‘Ellabrita’ ankle strap sandals, and MATEO New York ‘Sunset’ citrine and white diamond drop earrings would have made sure that Anya delivered head to toe wood nymph glamour on this red carpet. Now Maisie Williams knows how to deliver edgy moments on the red carpet, but I went for something a little more feminine and glamorous for her to wear had there been a red carpet premiere for The New Mutants. I saw this rose pink (which looks a little more coral-ly in the image) liquid sequin Markarian Fall 2020 RTW ‘Loulou’ a-line gown which features a belted waist, deep V neckline, floral embellished straps, and a long train and thought it would be a really glam moment for Maisie to wear on the red carpet to promote a blockbuster movie. It would have been made even more glamorous with a wavy bob, thick defined eyes, red lips, a rose pink satin Prada rounded box clutch, rose gold metallic leather Sophia Webster ‘Rosalind’ three strap crystal ball heel stiletto sandals, and simple yet dazzling white diamond and ruby Butani flower stud earrings.

2020 Cannes Film Festival What Could Have Been Wish List: “Last Night in Soho”

Edgar Wright’s latest has been veiled in secrecy for months, but no bother. After all, when have Wright’s films ever benefited from leaking loglines? Who hears “zombie comedy” and foresees what Shaun of the Dead would become? In any case, what we do know is more than enough to get excited. Featuring a darling cast of rising stars like Thomasin McKenzie and Anya Taylor-Joy alongside bona fide legends like Diana Rigg and Terence Stamp, the Last Night In Soho is reported to be a “psychological horror film” with some sort of time travel twist. A debut on the Croisette for the film, still set to hit theaters in September from Focus Features, would have been a match made in a movie-lover heaven. It seemed like this film was set for a midnight slot which are usually not among the most attended premieres, but since this is a wish let’s make it a star studded premiere right?Anya Taylor Joy started working with Law Roach earlier this year. I have been waiting to see Law take on Cannes for a really long time and I think that for Anya’s first Cannes since she won the Chopard Trophy, an award for rising talent, that the two would make major fashion magic on the red carpet. I’ve picked two superb moments for Anya to wear had this event actually taken place. For the photocall I would have loved to see Anya deliver this champagne gold, robins egg blue, and blush floral paisley lamé Zimmerman Fall 2020 RTW midi dress which features a ruffled neckline, long puffy sleeves, and banded construction throughout. The look is fun and fanciful which is something Anya loves to wear on the red carpet. I would strip back the runways styling ditching the hat, layered belts, and boots in favor of a sleek casual updo, defined eyes, soft blush pink lips, a pair of beige satin Roger Vivier ‘Broche Vivier’ low block heel crystal buckle detail pointed toe pumps, and simple multi-tone pink sapphire Brumani dome stud earrings. Now for the premiere I am going for something a little more conceptual customized from the Miu Miu Fall 2020 RTW collection. I would create a custom strapless taffeta gown for Anya with a strapless sweetheart neckline on a silk bustier bodice featuring intricate beading like you see on the sheer bodice of the runway look above, I would want a defined waist with the marigold asymmetrical taffeta sash, and a two tiered bubble skirt in the black taffeta. It is definitely a really conceptual gown and not the usual lengthening that I come to think of when it comes to modifying runway looks, but I really do think it would be a major moment for Anya to wear for the Cannes Film Festival red carpet. A sleek side parted bouffant updo, defined winged eyes, red lips, a pair of black satin Miu Miu sky high chunky heel platform crystal embellished sandals, and statement Chopard Red Carpet Collection teardrop citrine earrings set intricate white diamond floral detail would ensure this look is conceptual and glamorous. Thomasin McKenzie has definitely lived up to the One To Watch label I gave her in my 2018 End of the Year Style Awards. She has consistently delivered glamour on the red carpet wearing labels like Louis Vuitton, Valentino, Dior, Jason Wu, Schiaparelli Couture, Oscar de la Renta, Rodarte, Salvatore Ferragamo, Miu Miu, and more. For her Cannes Film Festival debut I turned to two new labels for Thomasin to wear to promote Last Night In Soho. For the photocall I went to the very ladylike side of Thomasin’s style picking this khaki Carolina Herrera Pre-Fall 2020 safari shirt dress which features a collared neckline, black and yellow plaid on the neck and sleeves, short wide sleeves, pocket detail on the bust, a mini length, drop waist, and a pleated a-line skirt. I definitely think that Thomasin is a perfect Herrera girl and I think that this dress would have been a perfect look for her to wear in Cannes for a casual photocall especially styled with a loose wavy bob, defined eyes, pink lips, a pair of yellow and beige raffia Malone Souliers ‘Maisie’ pointed toe kitten heel mules, and a feminine touch from Bulgari ‘Fiorever’ 18kt rose gold flower stud earrings set with two central diamonds and pavé diamonds. Now for the premiere I dug into the Armani Prive archives dusting off this gorgeous lavender ballgown from the Armani Prive Spring 2016 Couture collection. This super glamorous strapless ballgown which features a soft water print which is covered with thousands of clear paillettes covering the entire gown adding a liquid shine to the gown, which is then covered in a layer of silk organza to really make this look the perfect look for Thomasin to bring to life on the Cannes Film Festival red carpet. I am honestly shocked that this gown hasn’t been worn on the red carpet yet, but I am hoping that it is just waiting for the perfect person at the perfect event at the perfect time to deliver a major glamour moment. I do think that is what would happen seeing Thomasin wearing this gown in Cannes styled with a sleek retro updo, defined smokey eyes, soft rose pink lips, a pair of silver metallic leather Jimmy Choo ‘Tris’ floral crystal brooch detailed peep toe ankle strap sandals, and a dazzling white diamond Bulgari High Jewelry floral collar necklace. Camila Cabello was announced as a face of L’Oreal Paris a little over a year ago. I was hoping to see her on the red carpet in Cannes last year, but due to her tour responsibilities with Taylor Swift she wasn’t able. I hadn’t seen anything that was going to conflict with her attending Cannes this year so I was really intrigued to see what she would bring to the festivals red carpets to promote the beauty brand. The first look I thought of was this aqua blue silk satin asymmetrically draped Elie Saab Spring 2020 Couture mini dress which features a bow detail, asymmetric cross draped neckline, long sleeves, belted waist, and a dramatic train. I wouldn’t usually pick a look like this for Cannes, but it just works for Camila’s sense of style and since she isn’t there as an actress I thought that it works for a bit of fun glamour on the red carpet at the Palais de Festivals. With a risk like this in style I would need Camila to bring perfect styling to the look. So I would pair this gown with a big braided bun updo, defined eyes, bright pink lips, a pair of silver crystal embellished Rene Caovilla ‘Cleo’ coil strap platform sandals, and statement Chopard Red Carpet Collection paraiba tourmaline, sapphire, and amethyst paisley drop earrings to make sure this moment is glamorous perfection from head to toe. Gong Li always knows how to deliver regal glamour on the red carpet in Cannes. I think back on her past looks at the festival and immediately remember dramatic moments from Ralph & Russo and Roberto Cavalli Couture. For this years red carpet I would have loved to see Gong turn to the Chinese inspired Elie Saab Fall 2019 Couture collection. We have already seen Gong wear two looks from this collection one at the Venice Film Festival last year and the other at the Toronto International Film Festival immediately after. For the Cannes Film Festival I picked something even more regal than any of those other gowns with this deep maroon red Qipao inspired gown which features intricate gold embroidery, a gold metal and velvet belted waist, column skirt, and a dramatic attached cape. This look would just ooze regal glamour and I know that Gong Li has the presence to really make it a major moment. Now with the gown itself being such a statement I would style it with a sleek updo, smokey eyes, matching deed red lips, a pair of gold snakeskin embossed Jimmy Choo ‘Talika’ crystal embellished strap pointed toe pumps, and Precious Chopard collection butterfly drop earrings with rubies and white diamonds in 18k yellow gold. I know that all of these pieces put together would make for that major moment I want to see from Gong. Today’s final wish for a look I would have loved to see in Cannes is this major electric blue liquid sequin Valentino Spring 2020 Couture mermaid gown which I want to see brought to life at the festival by Priyanka Chopra. The Bollywood turned Hollywood starlet is a brand ambassador for Chopard and attended the festival with her hubby Nick Jonas as guests of the jeweler last year and I really wanted to see her on the red carpet again this year. Priyanka knows how to deliver glamour and drama on the red carpet and I feel that is exactly what is needed to really make this look work perfectly. The perfect fit of this gown paired with a sleek updo, navy smokey eyes, red lips, a pair of matching electric blue metallic leather Saint Laurent ‘Zoe’ pointed toe pumps, and a statement white diamond and sapphire Chopard Red Carpet Collection floral burst collar necklace would definitely make this look perfection.

2020 Met Gala Red Carpet Wish List Part 31

I just have 9 more sets of wishes for the 2020 Met Gala after today. We still don’t know when this years event will be rescheduled for, or if a gala will be anywhere near as big of an event as it usually is. The sad thing about all of this is that the Metropolitan Museum of Art is celebrating 150 years this year. The actual anniversary of it’s opening was last week and was celebrated with a couple posts on Instagram and its doors still closed due to the COVID-19 crisis. I am really hoping that this years Met Gala will honor the theme of “About Time: Fashion and Duration” and give big glamour moments to the red carpet. Help us enjoy some glamour when we are on the recovery from all of this mess. One way I am honoring the idea of the duration of fashion with my 2020 Met Gala wishes is to dive into the archives of several different labels. Regular readers will see that I have dove into the Atelier Versace archives four times already for this years Met Gala with wishes for Selena Gomez, Kate Hudson, Stella Maxwell, and Camila Cabello so far. I have one more wish to pull a gown out of the Versace archives this time for Anya Taylor Joy wearing this white and pink strapless Atelier Versace Spring 1995 Couture satin ball gown which features a beaded neckline and geometric Klimt inspired embellishments on the tiered sides of the gown. I don’t know what it was about this gown that really spoke to me for this red carpet. I think it was the art inspiration and the fact it is an archive moment that spoke to me. Anya definitely takes a page out of the quirky textbook for most of her red carpet looks. One of her most recent looks was a vintage Bob Mackie gown at the premiere of Emma which took inspiration from the Edwardian era. This major 90’s moment would definitely be a risk, but one I think that Anya would totally be able to sell to me on the red carpet especially if styled with a big bun updo, metallic rose gold lined pink eyes, dark rose pink lips, gold glitter Jimmy Choo ‘Misty’ ankle strap sandals, and a pair of dazzling white and pink diamond David Morris teardrop burst earrings.I definitely have a couple more wishes for stars to wear Louis Vuitton on the red carpet at this years Met Gala. As Nicolas Ghesquiere, the Louis Vuitton womenswear creative director, is a co-chair of this years Met Gala and that Louis Vuitton is a sponsor of this years gala I am sure that we will see several looks from the luxury fashion house on this years red carpet. Now while the Nicolas does not design menswear for Louis Vuitton, that responsibility falls to Virgil Abloh, I am sure several LV menswear moments will be seen on this red carpet. Cody Fern, known for his performances in American Crime Story: Versace and American Horror Story: 1984, made his Met Gala debut last year wearing Maison Margiela. Since then the gender fluid actor has rocked red carpets wearing several LV by Ghesquiere looks. While I would usually look at the womenswear labels for a look that toes the line between masculine and feminine for Cody this midnight blue Louis Vuitton by Virgil Abloh Fall 2020 Menswear suit which features ruffled details on the lapel, waist, and cuffs does just that. I think this look is a real statement, but also speaks a bit to the idea of modern, timelessness. The styling of this look is what will make it a really major moment on the red carpet so I would style the look with a black monochrome Louis Vuitton ‘Petite Malle’ clutch, a pair of silver glitter Giuseppe Zanotti ‘Gzxswaelee’ light blue lightning embroidered ankle boots, and a selection of Louis Vuitton High Jewelry pieces including a ‘Orangerie des Tuileries’ white diamond, tsavorite, and tanzanite brooch and a major ‘Emprise’ aquamarine and white diamond cocktail ring.It has been a while since Liv Tyler has walked the red carpet, but with a hit series in 9-1-1: Lone Star that has been renewed I feel like it is time for her to make that red carpet return. Over the years Liv has worn looks from Givenchy and Calvin Klein, but some of her best moments have come from Stella McCartney. From their matching ‘Rock Royalty’ t-shirts in 1999 to the super retro glam moment Liv had in the label in 2009 the two are bonded over having rock and roll legends for fathers and a love of fashion. I would love to see Liv back on the red carpet this year as a guest of Stella McCartney wearing a custom gown inspired by the Stella McCartney Fall 2020 RTW collection. This beige v-neck gown gives me a vibe that meshes 1940’s glam, modernist, and a hit of Japanese inspiration all wrapped into one package. It is cool for sure and one of the few gowns that Stella has actually shown on a red carpet. The look is super cool, but it needs some modifications to be perfect for this red carpet. First thing I would do is change the color from the beige to a maroon that another gown from this collection was rendered in. The other thing I would love to see Stella do to customize this gown is make sure it has a dramatic train. I feel like those modifications would definitely make this a superb moment for Liv to wear on her Met Gala red carpet return. A retro updo, defined smokey eyes, soft pink lips, a silver Judith Leiber Couture ‘Enchanted’ chain handle crystal embellished clutch, a pair of black satin Stella McCartney ankle strap sandals, and Lauren Adriana ruby and diamond drop earrings from Fred Leighton would ensure this look is just that, major. As the first lady of Kering we always see Salma Hayek wearing looks from the labels that her husbands company owns. Most of the time this culminates in Salma wearing a lot of custom Gucci ensembles on the red carpet. I decided to go off her normal Gucci moment for Salma to wear on the Met Gala red carpet this year instead picking this silver Swarovski crystal embellished Balenciaga Fall 2020 RTW long sleeve column gown. This gown is super modern and classic and a glamour all at the same time. Now this look is completely covered up. Salma usually loves to show off her ample bosom on the red carpet,  but I love the idea of this super covered moment for her instead. It would be a refreshing change of pace. If the look is too covered for Salma, maybe Demna Gvasalia would create a custom version with a cutout back. Now I decided to style this look with accessories from different Kering owned labels including a black snakeskin Gucci ‘Broadway Butterfly’ crystal clasp clutch, a pair of black satin Saint Laurent ‘Hall’ silver crystal embellished ankle strap platform sandals, and a pair of dazzling Boucheron ‘Verrière’ tassel earrings set with emerald beads, paved with diamonds, on white gold, titanium and puffed glass. A sleek bun updo, smokey eyes, and bold deep red lips would add the perfect finishing touches to this look for Salma. When I was looking for people who were sitting front row at the recent Fall 2020 RTW runway shows for inspiration for who should be invited to the 2020 Met Gala I kept seeing Saweetie. To be honest I had no idea who she was before starting to look at the front rows. Over the course of this last season of shows we saw Saweetie front row at Moschino, The Blonds, Michael Kors, Brandon Maxwell, and Prada. It was that coupled with her dating Quavo from Migos that made them the perfect couple to rock these Prada Fall 2020 ensembles on the Met Gala red carpet. Let’s start by breaking down the look I’ve picked for Quavo. This black silk nylon Prada Fall 2020 Menswear collection co-ord which is a cross between a 70’s tuxedo and pajamas was definitely a look I was drawn to and thought would make a perfect look for this years Met Gala. Now I originally thought of this look for Timothee Chalamet, but after he wore a similar formal meets athleisure Prada ensemble (which many likened to a valet attendants uniform) for the Oscars I didn’t think that he would wear this look for the Met. I do think that Quavo would definitely be able to sell this look to me on the red carpet styled with his signature dreads, black Christian Louboutin ‘Rock Moc Flat’ silver pyramid studded thick soled penny loafers, a pair of black Prada geometric aviator style sunglasses, and a statement Jacob & Co. ‘Rasputin Tourbillon’ white diamond and black leather watch. For Saweetie I decided to customize this black fringe and velvet Prada Fall 2020 RTW sleeveless dress which features a bodysuit construction, beaded detail on the neckline, and carwash pleats. I think that making sure this dress hits the floor perfectly adding some beaded fringe details into the fringe on the skirt would definitely make this a stand out Prada moment on the Met Gala red carpet especially if styled with sleek updo, smokey eyes, bold red lips, a black silk and silver rock crystal embellished Prada clutch, a pair of black Prada crystal embellished ankle strap sandals, a pair of Jacob & Co. High Jewelry 26 carat white diamond art deco chandelier earrings, and a Jacob & Co. High Jewelry asscher cut white diamond 92 carat bracelet. These two would definitely be on the list of best dressed couples of the evening for sure.

PARIS FASHION WEEK FALL 2020 RTW RED CARPET WISH LIST PART 3

After today I am navigating uncharted waters. This set of wishes for looks that came down the runways of Paris Fashion Week a few weeks ago really finishes out all my immediate wishes for the Fall 2020 RTW runway season. Overall I have been really impressed and honestly sad at the thought that due to the COVID-19 crisis that many of these looks will end up lost to the archives of fashion history. Even if this list is the only place we will ever get to enjoy the idea of these looks on a red carpet then so be it. At least in this time of crisis we are able to maintain a sense of fantasy when reality is do bleak.

PARIS FASHION WEEK FALL 2020 RTW RED CARPET WISH LIST PART 2

Paris Fashion Week, much like New York Fashion Week, produced a plethora of options for stars to deliver stellar red carpet moments. But given the current state of our world right now the only thing we can do is fantasize about what could be. I am hoping that as the curve of this virus stars to decline and we start to see events being rescheduled that many of these wishes will come true. Some of my favorite collections of the season are featured in this set of wishes. I think that is evidenced well by just how many looks from some of the shows I have made wishes for. I am praying for glamour and drama coming forward. Which of the looks below to you most want to see brought to life on the red carpet?
