2021 Grammy Awards Red Carpet Wish List Part 2

I cannot wait to see how the Grammy Awards go off this weekend. So far in the midst of the socially distanced the Music Awards shows have done the best feeling “normal”. While some went expected with the regular set up in an empty arena while others went for more virtual continuity with green screen set stages. The Grammy Awards are expected to have multiple stages set up in and around the Staples Center complex where a major list of performers are set to showcase. I am really excited to see what the show will bring. So over the next several days you are going to see wishes for those nominated, performing, and presenting at this years show. I’m crossing my fingers for major things. Kicking things off today is this years most nominated artist Beyonce who has 9 nominations thanks to her Black is King visual album including Record of the Year and Song of the Year. Despite all of those nominations she is not one of the performers this year and I highly doubt we will see her get all dressed up for any sort of live acceptance speech should she win any of those 9 awards. When I was picking looks for the Grammy’s back before they postponed their date I picked this major glamour look which features a sheer Ese Azenabor Couture column gown which features long sleeves, intricate beading, and a plunging neckline which I wanted to style with the major black and white fur stole from the Georges Hobeika Fall 2020 Couture collection. I really wanted to see Beyonce support a young up and coming designer I found through her stylist Zerina Akers @BlackOwnedEverything she started after sourcing items from black labels (in addition to a lot more) for the Black Is King visual album. I thought this gown with that stole would give major old Hollywood vibes with a sleek rose twist retro inspired updo, thick winged eyes, bold red Pat McGrath Labs ‘Elson 2’ bold red matte lips, a pair of black Christian Louboutin ‘Double L 100’ patent leather & mesh strappy pointed toe pumps, and Lorraine Schwartz jewels including statement drop earrings made up of white diamond halo set Colombian emeralds and a selection of major white diamond rings. It would easily be one of my favorite Beyonce looks in a really long, long time. Especially a red carpet look. I had so many ideas for what to pick for Dua Lipa to wear for the Grammy Awards. I was originally going to go down the route of vintage Thierry Mugler Couture, but then Kim Jones made his debut as the creative director at Fendi. The moment I saw this ivory sheer pearl embellished caped column gown with a halterneck bodysuit and a dramatic train it spoke to me. It was a really cool moment that gives me regal vibes as well as rock and roll glamour. I feel like it would definitely be something that Dua would be drawn to and since she is on the list of performers in addition to being nominated for six Grammy’s including Record of the Year, Album of the Year, and Song of the Year. Her music helped get me through lockdown and I would love to see her walk away with a couple of those golden gramophones as a consolation prize. A sleek updo embellished with a Mikimoto ‘Splash’ akoya pearl and white diamond brooch, defined eyes, glossy mauve lips, a pair of metallic champagne nude Christian Louboutin ‘Mariacar’ crisscross mesh platform sandals, and Mikimoto ‘Bubbles’ akoya pearl and white diamond cluster earrings would turn this look into the perfect glamour moment for Dua to bring to the Grammy’s this year.  H.E.R. has been making the rounds this awards season with nominations at both the Golden Globe Awards and the Critics Choice Awards. Her next stop would be the Grammy’s in a normal year. She is nominated for 3 Grammy’s including Song of the Year and two Best R&B nods. She gave us more casual cool in Valentino Couture look at the Globes and a major floral beaded brocade custom Miu Miu suit for the Critics Choice Awards after wearing neon trimmed Vera Wang Chinese inspired pants looks for the Emmy’s last year. She isn’t performing, but I would still love to see her serve a major drama glam moment wearing this peach rosé avant garde ruffled Elie Saab Spring 2021 RTW column gown which features a 3/4 length cape bodice, intricate crystal embellishment, a thigh high split, and a dramatic train. It isn’t like anything else we’ve seen H.E.R. wear. She goes for more of that left of “expected” glamour for the red carpet, but I feel like this could be a really cool moment especially if it was styled with an intricate cornrow braided bun updo, defined eyes behind orange Gentle Monster ‘Chakra’ gold-toned metal cat-eye sunglasses, glossy nude lips, a pair of metallic orange Giuseppe Zanotti ‘Catia’ strappy sandals, and glamorous A & Furst ‘Bouquet’ rose-cut rose de France, citrine, pink tourmaline, and madera citrine cluster earrings.Megan Thee Stallion has been getting better and better with her red carpets lately. So when I saw that the rapper who is nominated for FOUR Grammy’s including Record of the Year and Best New Artist was going to be performing this year I wanted to make sure I was giving a major fashion moment. I went through all sorts of ideas when I was thinking about what the perfect look would be for Megan I went through a couple of ideas, but I thought about going the custom route going off the rack and picking this bronze Gucci long sleeve gown with a choker detail on the neck, a metallic sheen, a straight fit, a long length, a rear central vent and a chainmail-style construction as the inspiration. How I would customize this look for Megan would be to add a dramatic train and moving the rear vent to become a right side split to really make this a superb fashion moment for the Grammy’s red carpet. It would be edgy, glamorous, and sexy which are all adjectives I would use to describe Megan. I would style this gown with a major high afro bubble puff ponytail, smokey eyes, deep glossy burgundy lips, major black ankle strap Casadei fishnet mesh peep toe platform pumps, and a selection of major Sutra jewels including 18k blackened gold 3 row emerald hoop earrings and a ‘High Emerald’ 18k blackened gold set emerald and white diamond cocktail ring to make sure that Megan is serving a MAJOR moment from head to toe. Finishing off today is the beautiful Taylor Swift who is nominated for six Grammy’s and will be performing this weekend so I am really excited to see what she will bring to the red carpet. Despite multiple nominations since Taylor hasn’t attended a Grammy’s ceremony since 2016 when she won several for her album 1989. So I am really interested to see what she will bring this year. When she dropped Folklore and Evermore last year Taylor seemed to ignite the Cottagecore trend, and a refound love of cardigans. I’ve wanted to see what this would bring in terms of red carpet style, but Taylor has skipped pretty much all of the music awards shows during the pandemic. When I was thinking of something that I feel would fit the vibe of her recent albums, but still give us red carpet I was having a hard time coming up with the right pick. Then I watched the Valentino Spring 2021 Couture show and I immediately fell in love with this light grey slip style gown with a dramatic train paired with a copper brown knit sweater vest that was worn asymmetrically on the runway and I would keep it that way for Swiftie. Finishing out the look with a soft romantic updo, defined eyes, her signature bold red lips, gold metallic leather Aquazzura ‘Celeste’ platform crystal rope knot detailed platform ankle strap sandals, and a selection of Irene Neuwirth jewels including one of a kind ‘Tropical Flower Triple’ drop earrings made of carved mixed tourmaline, a one of a kind three stone ‘Gemmy Gem’ pink tourmaline & white diamond ring, and a one of a kind ‘Tropical Flower Triple’ carved pink tourmaline and sapphire ring would give this look is a major cottagecore glamour moment.

The 2021 Grammy Awards, hosted by Trevor Noah, will air live on CBS Sunday March 14, 2021. You can see all of my wishes for this years red carpet here.

Dream Inaugural Ball for President Joe Biden Red Carpet Wish List Part 4

COVID-19 has stolen so many red carpets from us. The latest casualty are the traditional inaugural balls following the swearing in of a President of the United States. Now while President Trump didn’t have troves of celebrity following to add more dazzle to the balls, President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris do. So I am really disappointed in the fact we aren’t going to see these supporters get up and dazzle in the ballrooms of Washington D.C. Beyonce was relatively silent this election cycle until right before the election where she posted a photo of herself on Instagram wearing a full Balmain ensemble and a Biden/Harris mask saying “Let’s do this Texas.” I was honestly surprised that we didn’t see Beyonce do more especially with Kamala Harris. Now I still would have loved to see Beyonce give us a dazzling moment had she attended any of the inaugural balls and that is exactly what she would have done wearing this royal blue Nedo by Nedret Taciroğlu Fall 2020 Couture strapless trumpet gown with asymmetrical ruffle details and a hip high split. I did tend to go with American designers for these dream inaugural ball wishes, but I needed a dazzling couture moment for Beyonce. I know she would definitely own this moment and with a sleek retro inspired updo with white roses in her hair, thick wing defined smokey eyes, bold matte red lips, a pair of silver Jimmy Choo pointed toe d’orsay crystal fringe trimmed ankle strap pumps, and a selection of major Lorraine Schwartz jewels including ‘Mesh Collection’ sapphire drop earrings, a round sapphire cocktail ring, and a geometric white diamond cocktail ring it would be retro glamour defined. Darren Criss was a part of the virtual Biden inaugural event “America United: An Inauguration Welcome Event Celebrating America’s Changemakers” on Saturday. I would definitely have marked that as a reason why he would have been given a ticket to one of the inaugural balls had there been any. I always love seeing Darren and his style on red carpets and so I feel like this really is a potential major menswear moment stolen from us due to the pandemic. Had he done a look for an inaugural ball I would have loved to see him rep American based designer Virgil Abloh and this ensemble from the Off-White c/o Virgil Abloh Resort 2021 collection which features a grey blazer with a half band belt waist and skinny fir black trousers. Now I love this look and it is definitely something that Darren would be drawn to. I would make the look more formal with the styling to make it appropriate for an inaugural ball with a crisp white shirt, black bow tie, and a pair of Thom Browne classic long black leather wingtip brogues with a red, white, and blue striped grosgrain strap. It would be statement making with a nod to patriotism. Demi Lovato will be performing tomorrow night at an event titled “Celebrating America” which will take the place of the traditional inaugural balls. I haven’t always loved Demi’s style and I was uber disappointed in most of her looks from the People’s Choice Awards last year. Demi and her stylist Siena don’t have a lot of pull with major designers so I turned to the resource that they used for most of her PCA’s looks, Albright LA. Albright is a fashion rental library where stars and stylists can rent looks for red carpets and editorials. I went through their virtual racks and found this super glam art deco inspired black and silver beaded Tom Ford sleeveless column gown. It is super simple in silhouette, but it definitely packs some glamour. I think it would go great with the pink high and tight pixie that Demi just debuted on Instagram. I would definitely have gone with a high glam styling with defined eyes, dark rose pink lips, a black crystal embellished Judith Leiber ‘Slim Slide’ clutch, a pair of black satin Tom Ford crystal embellished wrap around ankle strap sandals, and a little more sparkle via Messika Paris ‘Desert Bloom’ feather inspired cluster earrings to really make this look absolute perfection. When it comes to country music stars they tend to skew Republican, but Maren Morris made a very passionate plea for people to vote for Joe Biden. She made the plea during an I Will Vote event and said “Coming from a Southern family with a conservative background, throughout my childhood I was always taught to treat people with respect and dignity, no matter their race, their religion, their sexual orientation and, yes, event their political party. But like a lot of us, I’ve been in perpetual shock watching what’s happened to our country these last few years.” Well now America is about to have a new president and I would have loved to see Maren show up and serve up a glamorous look. I don’t always love what Maren wears on the red carpet, but I always give her the benefit of the doubt. I went into the Naeem Archives to find this gorgeous gown with a silver intricately crystal embellished bustier and a lilac silk charmuse wrap style skirt and a thigh high split from the Indian born New York based designer’s Spring 2015 RTW collection. I have gone through a couple brands archives to find amazing looks for these wishes and found many amazing unworn gowns like this one. I feel like with a chic sleek center parted hairstyle slicked behind the ears, defined eyes, soft pink lips, a silver mirror crystal cut L’Afshar acrylic clutch, light purple and silver Grey Mer strappy platform sandals, and some dazzling jewel moments from Paul Morelli including a pair of elongated ‘Triptych’ brilliant cut white diamond, blue sapphire, pink sapphire, and purple sapphire drop earrings and a ‘Moderne’ purple sapphire and white diamond cocktail ring would definitely make this a very chic head to toe moment for Maren. In an opinion article she penned for The New York Times Padma Lakshmi said “when I heard the news of Kamala Harris and Joe Biden’s victory. I felt elated. Then suddenly I felt this heat welling up from my chest into my throat and it burst out of me in tears I could not control. At first I didn’t even know why I was sobbing. Finally, I was thinking. Finally a woman, and a woman of color, takes this office.” During the campaign Padma participated in virtual events to work to elect Biden and Harris, specifically working to get out the vote of members of the South Asian community. Well to celebrate the success of the campaign and to mark this historical moment that means so much to Padma herself I would have been sure that we would have seen her on inauguration night giving us glamour at one of the balls. I had gone through my photo archives and found some designers who show in New York and picked this black and white Greta Constantine Spring 2021 RTW column gown which features a v-neck, puffy sleeves, and a cape almost immediately for Padma. It is statuesque glamour defined and I know that she would be able to really make it a major moment. Now while Greta shows in New York, she is based in Toronto, Canada. So she isn’t really an American designer, but I am still here for it. A sleek side parted low bun updo, defined eyes, bold red lips, a black croc leather Judith Leiber Couture ‘Cayman’ crystal embellished clasp clutch, white satin Aquazzura ‘Bow Tie’ crystal embellished pointed toe pumps, and a nod to Kamala and her famous pearls with a pair of TASKI Atelier ‘Aurora’ white diamond and akoya pearl drop earrings would add the perfect finishing touches to this extremely glamorous look. Rasario Dawson participated yesterday in the “United We Serve: A Celebration of the National MLK Day of Service” and she is the girlfriend of Senator Cory Booker, so yea I definitely would have expected to see her in Washington, D.C. for one of the inaugural balls this year. I’ve always loved that Rosario is an outspoken activist and she is appealing to the better angels after supporting Bernie Sanders in the Democratic primary over Joe Biden, but is now throwing her support behind the new president. When it comes to fashion Rosario can be a little hit or miss for me, but when I thought of Rosario wearing this white one shoulder Sergio Hudson Fall 2020 RTW column gown with gold belt buckle details on the shoulder and the waist I thought it could be a really chic moment for her to rock. Sergio Hudson is a black owned luxury women’s ready-to-wear label designed and produced entirely in Los Angeles so checks all the boxes of a Made in America label which Joe is really advocating for in supporting to help us weather the pandemic and job loses. I would have loved to see Rosario give us glamour styling this gown with old Hollywood waves, defined smokey eyes, deep red glossy lips, a gold lizard embossed Tyler Ellis ‘Lily’ clutch, a pair of gold Giuseppe Zanotti ‘Kate’ ankle cuff sandals, and more pearls to honor from another young black designer with a pair of MATEO NY 14k gold baroque pearl trio dangle earrings.

10 Best Collections of Spring 2021: Sukeina

I’ve decided to talk about the Spring 2021 collections differently this season. I got so busy with work at the beginning of “Fashion Month” that I wasn’t able to keep up with writing reviews of the collections. So instead of multiple reviews good, bad, and indifferent I picked my top 10 collections of the season and will review them. In the midst of the pandemic I was overjoyed to see designers bring creativity and glamour to the collections. With many of the biggest heavy hitters deciding to sit the traditional calendar out this season it allowed for a lot of younger talent to shine. One of those was Sukeina. Beautiful and subtly mysterious, Sukeina is a tangible expression of an ongoing romance between the concept of femininity and the brands creative aesthetic of founder/creative director Omar Salam. This ‘romance’ evolves from a ‘language’ spoken between exotic fabrics and a gifted talent that seeks less to clothe the physical than it does to translate and visually express the essence of inner beauty and unique spirit that is womanhood.  By escaping the conformity of merely making ‘clothes for women’, what ensues are collections that are beguiling, exotic and transcendent, meticulously detailed yet glamorous in their simplicity. In a word, ethereal. He made his debut presenting a lookbook during New York Fashion Week: Digital. It made a splash.

The Sukeina Spring 2021 RTW collection is titled “Miracle” and that it was. In a season where there was a lot of dialed back details I was in love with the attention to detail that we saw in this collection. It was unique. In fashion collections do tend to be political in one way or another. This collection is no different. The idea centers on power dressing; having a seat at the table, something Black creators like Omar Salam have continuously struggled to receive. In a phone interview with Vogue “If one color is missing, the picture can’t be complete. They might not [explicitly] say that someone isn’t allowed in the room, but when all that is necessary to get into those rooms excludes an entire group, the message is clear.” So this collection was all about using African heritage mixed with western power dressing. Malian dress, Kenya’s Maasai tribe, and the Bassari people of the West African region all helped serve as the inspiration for this collection. While Salam referenced these cultures it did not come across as costume-y or appropriation. I was absolutely obsessed from the first moment I saw it. Below you are going to find 8 major moments from this collection I would like to see stars snatch out of the lookbook and bring to life on the red carpet, if we even get any more red carpets coming up.As I was first looking at this collection the first celebrity to pop into my mind was Cardi B. I feel like the aesthetic of this collection is something that Cardi would be totally interested in. I really would love to see Cardi rock this red ‘Kyte Cloud’ dress which features mesh construction, a mock neck, intricate embellishments, and cutouts on the hips. It is glamorous and trashy and that is exactly what I would want to see Cardi bring to life. She knows how to walk that line perfectly. With a sleek center parted hairstyle, defined eyes, dark antique rose pink lips, a pair of red suede three strap Giuseppe Zanotti crystal embellished sandals, and a pair of white diamond Butani vine chandelier earrings I know that this would be a major fashion moment for Cardi to bring to life on the red carpet.

I was also immediately drawn to this lime green and black ‘Cloud Mini’ high neck mini dress which features puffy feathered sleeves, mesh construction, and intricate embroidery. It’s such a fun fashion moment and I really do think that it could be a cool look for Miley Cyrus. She’s been killing the fashion game lately and I definitely think that this look would fit her glam grunge aesthetic perfectly especially if it was styled with thick kohl rimmed eyes, glossy pink lips, and a pair of black Rene Caovilla ‘Cleo’ crystal embellished satin satin ankle cuff coil sandalsSex wasn’t the only thing on the menu in the Sukeina Spring 2021 RTW collection. We saw several super sophisticated and lady like looks too. I loved seeing this burnt orange ensemble which consists of a ‘Butterfly’ organza long sleeve bodysuit blouse and a ‘Delta’ structured origami fold detailed pencil skirt. Again this was a look that immediately put a star in my head? Who? Well obviously Jennifer Lopez. It would be a really cool interview ensemble for JLo. Style it with a sleek low bun, defined eyes, dark berry lips, a light brown Celine ‘Medium 16’ top handle natural calfskin bag, a pair of metallic gold Casadei ‘Blade’ croc effect pointed toe pumps, gold Elie Saab gradient effect oversized sunglasses, and dazzling Loren Jewels sterling silver and 18kt gold pave diamond hoop earrings with 7.17 carat total weight of champagne diamonds to really make it a superb fashion moment.

While the collection was uber sexy the super covered black gown ensemble which features intricate embroidery, long sleeves with scarf detail on the cuffs, high neck, origami folded details, and a fit to flare skirt was definitely a standout. It is going to be a difficult look to pull off, but I feel like Mary J. Blige would be the perfect person to bring the look to life. Now the gown itself is such an intricate statement I would just love to see her style the gown with a blonde fingerwave updo, defined eyes, bold glossy lips, and a pair of black leather Vetements drill-bit heel pointed toe pumps. We know that Kim Kardashian would be all over some of the sexiest looks from this collection, even though she has been really into vintage for the last year. I saw this black mesh ‘Kyte’ long sleeve dress which features a plunging neckline, lace up detail on the front, blouson sleeves, drop waist, cutout detail on the hips, and a flared handkerchief hem and immediately thought of Kim. While I do think it would be a bit of an eye roll moment as it is perfectly within Kim’s usual MO I definitely think it is something she would rock on a red carpet. A sleek high ponytail, defined eyes, nude lips, a pair of black Amina Muaddi ‘Zula’ strappy crystal embellished and PVC detail sculpted heel sandals, and simple yet glamorous Lorraine Schwartz white diamond emerald cut drop earrings would definitely make this a very Kim but also very high fashion moment.

My final wish, for this list at least, is for the one and only Beyonce. I would love to see her bring this black ‘Tocca’ embroidered mesh jacket with strong shoulders with a white collar to life as a major performance moment. I feel like I can definitely picture Beyonce rocking a stage wearing this jacket over a black Wolford ‘Mat de Luxe’ spaghetti strap bodysuit. A sleek high ponytail, smokey eyes, bold red lips, and a pair of black Saint Laurent ‘Moon’ over the knee boots which feature a chunky heel and a lace up detail up the back are exactly how I would bring this look to life as a major performance ensemble. So yes I am so excited about this collection. I feel like we are going to see stylists really embracing this collection for the red carpet. Who would you like to see bring these looks to life?

2020 Billboard Music Awards Red Carpet Wish List

Tomorrow night are the 2020 pandemic version of the Billboard Music Awards. The awards are finally happening, in a virtual event, after being postponed earlier this year. I don’t know what to expect, but there are some major names in the list of nominees and performers so I hope to see a lot of these stars over the course of the telecast tomorrow night. Check out some of the absolutely major moments I want to see these stars rock tomorrow night for the virtual “red carpet” and let me know which are your favorites and which ones you most want to see brought to life.

2020 BET Awards Red Carpet Wish List Part 3

The red carpet at the BET Awards isn’t exactly known for it’s high fashion moments. When I Google Image search the event only two of the “top tier” fashion labels show up at the top with a Jean Paul Gaultier Couture dress on Ciara and a Prabal Gurung ensemble on Yara Shahidi, both from the 2019 event. I always hold out hope that someone will WOW me on this red carpet. I’m not saying it hasn’t been done before, but big fashion moments are far and few between. As I’ve said over the past couple of days my wishes for the 2020 BET Awards are picked not with the idea of the Zoom ceremony, but for what the red carpet might have looked like had an in-person actually happened. So definitely escape to what could have happened had COVID-19 not sent the event digital. Beyonce nabbed four BET Award nominations along with her daughter Blue Ivy’s first. Bey doesn’t do a whole lot of red carpets anymore. She opts instead to rock some glam in an at home photo shoot and then sneak into events through the side door. So I mean I would love to see her still do some major glam for the virtual BET Awards since it fits right in with her MO as of lately. I always love seeing Beyonce wearing Elie Saab designs on the red carpet and I definitely think she would have brought this champagne gold intricate sequin embroidered mermaid gown from the Elie Saab Spring 2020 Couture collection which features a plunging neckline with a sheer yoke (that would have to be made to match Bey’s skin tone, long puffy poet sleeves, a leather belted waist, and a sweeping train to life with effortless ease. It isn’t an easy look to pull off, but I definitely believe that Beyonce would be able to push through this dress and own it. A sleek updo, defined eyes, dark rose pink lips, a pair of gold Gianvito Rossi knot detailed ankle strap metallic leather sandals, and dazzling Lorraine Schwartz hand cut diamond cascading earrings would definitely have added the perfect finishing touches to this look. It might have been my subconscious remembering the orange Jean Paul Gaultier Couture dress that Ciara wore last year for the BET Awards, but I picked a very similar dress for her to wear had she walked the red carpet this year. The singer is nominated for one BET Award this year and is very pregnant, so I don’t even know if we would have seen Ciara at this years awards had there been no COVID-19 crisis. But had she shown up draping this lilac Zuhair Murad Fall 2020 RTW one sleeve asymmetrically draped mini dress over her baby bump I definitely think that it would have been a glamorous moment. I would have ditched the belt as I feel over the bump it would have been too constricting. I definitely think that Ciara would have given us sexy pregnancy glamour wearing this dress with the lookbooks matching lilac ankle strap sandals, a romantic curly updo, smokey eyes, soft nude lips, and glamorous Niwika ‘Amane’ cluster earrings set in 18k white gold with blue chalcedony, amethyst, aquamarine, tanzanite, and green tourmaline.I know that Issa Rae has the potential to really wow me. She has, but it has been a while. Had she been on the red carpet at the 2020 BET Awards I would have loved to see her rock this red carpet on top form. I love this goldenrod asymmetrically sequin draped Aliette Fall 2020 RTW pencil dress from her stylist Jason Rembert’s own fashion line. I believe that that Issa would definitely have brought this dress to life in a major moment. She knows how to handle bold color and dazzling glamour on the red carpet and I definitely think that this dress would have delivered just that. The styling with it a sleek braided bun updo, smokey eyes, bold red lips, a pair of yellow gold Sergio Rossi mary-jane inspired peep toe slingback crystal buckle detailed sandals, and Norman Silverman emerald cut white diamond hoop earrings would definitely have put the look together perfectly. Marsai Martin is a little boss lady. She is not only just an actress but at 15 she is already producing movies. I feel like it’s sad that she only received a nomination for Best Young Star because she hustles her way through Hollywood with the best of the “grown-up” stars. I went for something DRAMATIC for her to wear on the red carpet had one taken place with this fuchsia Pamella Rolland Fall 2020 RTW feather-trimmed sequined tulle one shoulder gown which features a fitted one-shoulder bodice, an asymmetric A-line high low skirt, and a dramatic train. Everything from the color to the silhouette to the embellishments makes this a perfect look for Marsai. The dress itself is such a statement that I would just style it with simple waves pinned behind the ears, smokey eyes, light antique rose pink lips, and a pair of silver Alexandre Birman ‘Lacy’ crystal embellished 4 strap snakeskin sandals would definitely have made this another major fashion moment for Marsai to bring to life on the red carpet.

Check out Part 1 of my 2020 BET Awards wishes here, and Part 2 here. The virtual BET Awards will take place on Sunday June 28, 2020 at 8pm on BET, BET Her, & CBS.

2020 Met Gala Red Carpet Wish List Part 20

Can you believe we are 20 lists into my Met Gala wishes with many more still to come? One of the great things about quarantine is that I have seemingly found inspiration again. In these super uncertain times I feel like I have turned to fashion as a form of fantasy and escapism. While everything happening in the world is indeed super serious and we need to be able to escape for a little bit. That is what I have been doing. I am hoping that taking the time to read these wishes gives you a couple moments of escapism as well. When it comes to red carpets there isn’t one that delivers more of a fantastical effect than the Met Gala, which is why I decided to continue putting out these wishes despite the fact that the event has currently been postponed indefinitely. Beyonce has skipped the Met Gala the last two years. In fact the only actual red carpets Queen Bey as she has become to be known has only walked the red carpets for the LA and London premieres of The Lion King in that same time span. With this being the 150th anniversary of the Metropolitan Museum of Art and Beyonce having a storied history with the Met Gala I am really hoping that she will bless the red carpet with her presence. For the perfect couture like red carpet moment I decided to turn to Balmain for Beyonce. This is the only look for a woman to wear Balmain on the Met Gala red carpet I have picked this year. I feel like if you get to dress Beyonce for her Met Gala return why would you need, or want, to dress the Kardashian/Jenner clan? I have been obsessed with this black, white, and silver intricately bead and crystal baroque inspired embroidered Balmain Pre-Fall 2020 mini dress since it was first presented several months ago. I will say though that the first time I saw this gown I immediately said “that should have been a gown.” I optioned this look several times over the course of awards season, but ultimately decided it wasn’t the right moment for any of the red carpets including the Grammy’s, Oscar’s, or the Golden Globe Awards. I was looking through my archive of looks for the perfect looks for this years Met Gala and finally said that this was the perfect opportunity to make a wish for it to be brought to life. Now it was an easy choice for it to be Beyonce to bring this gown to life as she has the regal stature to really make this look come to life. I would just customize this look into a floor length column gown. With that structured collar, open neckline, and intricate beading this look delivers plenty of drama all on its own. Of course I want the drama and glamour pushed even more with the look, but through the styling. Styling the look with a sleek 60’s inspired updo, thick winged cat eyes, bold red lips, a black crystal embellished Judith Leiber Couture ‘Enchanted’ chain handle clutch, a pair of black Christian Louboutin ‘Championne Strass’ geometric crystal embellished pointed toe pumps, and MAJOR Lorraine Schwartz (Bey’s go to jeweler) jewels including a tennis necklace made of 250 carats of white diamonds and a selection of statement white diamond rings strewn about her fingers would definitely make this the absolutely major moment I am craving from Beyonce. You have seen me do a lot of 40’s, 50’s, & 60’s inspired looks for the red carpet at this years Met Gala. I do think that a lot of designers will take notes from these era’s which are deemed the hay-day of glamour. Though we shouldn’t forget about the disco glamour of the 1970’s. A label who usually dresses one star for the Met Gala red carpet who I think can deliver that disco glam perfectly is Paco Rabanne. The label is known for its use of metals in creating looks and their Fall 2020 RTW collection was one of my favorites of the season. Now on the runway the looks skewed more medieval, which would have been great for the 2018 gala, but since that era doesn’t fall in the 150 year time span I think that stripping back some of the runway styling would make for a super Met Gala moment. I love this gold Paco Rabanne Fall 2020 RTW collection ensemble which features a fringe trimmed chainmail bandana cape crop top and matching fringe trimmed chainmail maxi skirt and definitely think it could be a super sexy yet glamorous moment for this red carpet. While I would love to see the skirt have a superb and dramatic train Paco Rabanne isn’t really a label that will do that. Now it was a little difficult to figure out the perfect person to bring this look to life on the Met Gala red carpet. Ultimately I believe that Emily Ratajkowski has the effortlessness to really bring this sort of look to life on the Met steps. The look is super laid back compared to the other looks in this specific list and in my Met Gala wishes overall, but it is perfectly on brand for Paco and in step with this years theme. Now for styling I would first and foremost remove the headpiece and the boots the look was paired with on the runway.  Finishing the look with Farrah Fawcett hair, defined eyes, soft pink lips, the gold chainmail Paco Rabanne ‘Op’Art’ clutch the look was paired with on the runway, and a pair of gold Stuart Weitzman ‘Misty’ chunky heel platform sandals would all make sure the disco glam vibes of this look are on full display. When I was picking the perfect look for Katy Perry to wear on the Met Gala red carpet I was thinking of the fact that she is pregnant. Since the event has been postponed it will put into the air if we will see Katy on the Met Gala red carpet. Now that being said while this powder pink and grey silk chiffon Ralph & Russo Spring 2020 Couture caftan, bejeweled with sequins, crystals and xilions, and finished with an ostrich feather edging would be a MAJOR 60’s hostess vibe maternity moment for Katy to bring to life on this red carpet if the event happens after she gives births this look still works perfectly for this red carpet. This super glam moment is definitely ready for this years theme of “About Time: Fashion and Duration.” I would go full 60’s with a bouffant updo, winged cat-eyes, bright pink lips, a grey mirrored lizard leather skin Judith Leiber Couture ‘Soho Argent’ jeweled clasp clutch, silver Malone Souliers ‘Lauren’ metallic studded platform sandals, and lots of Harry Winston jewels including a pair of vintage ‘Cluster’ white diamond earrings, a white diamond ‘Pirouette’ floral ring, a white diamond teardrop ‘Winston Cluster’ ring, and a white diamond ‘Sparkling Cluster’ band ring to really make this look absolutely major from head to toe. Since Maria Grazia Chiuri has taken the reigns at Christian Dior the label has featured less and less on the Met Gala red carpet. I feel like the brand is so intertwined to the idea behind this years Met Gala theme of “About Time: Fashion and Duration” that I really want to see several moments on the red carpet. Regular readers will know I am not MGC’s biggest fan, but there are a couple of looks from her tenure I think make for some major moments on the Met Gala red carpet. I would love to see the face of the Miss Dior fragrance Natalie Portman step onto her first Met Gala red carpet as a face of Dior and for the first time since 2004 wearing this white tulle one shoulder gown from the Christian Dior Spring 2020 Couture collection which features a draped bodice and a tiered ball skirt. Now of course I would want to see the look customized to have a have a sweeping train to really bring this look to life on the red carpet. It would make for a super glamorous moment for Natalie and one of her more successful Dior looks ever. A sleek updo, defined eyes, soft pink lips, a pair of white crystal embellished Gianvito Rossi ‘Rania’ pointed toe pumps, and a pair of mismatched Dior Haute Jewelry white diamond, aquamarine, peridot, emerald, topaz, and pink sapphire cluster earrings would all make sure this look perfect. One of the first looks I picked for this years Met Gala red carpet was this MAJOR moment for Zendaya. I LOVE this baby pink Valentino Spring 2020 Couture gown which features an ostrich feather burst bodice, a fit to flare skirt, and a thigh high split which exposes a red lining. Over the years Zendaya has brought major moments to the Met Gala red carpet and I don’t see the fashionista sitting this year out. She would definitely be able to bring this look to this red carpet with effortless ease. There aren’t many red carpets where this look would actually work on a red carpet so I am PRAYING to all of the gods of fashion that this look comes to life. It would be perfect from head to toe styled with a sleek high bun updo, defined eyes, glossy nude lips, a pair of multi-tone pink and red strappy Sophia Webster ‘Rosalind’ sandals, and a bit of sparkle via vintage Bulgari white diamond and ruby earclips.

New York Fashion Week Fall 2020 RTW Red Carpet Wish List Part 3

Closing out my wishes for the looks that came down the runway during New York Fashion Week from the Fall 2020 RTW collections. This season I noticed how even more diverse my wishes were. Designers who typically design for one type of person seemed to open to the most diverse set of starlets who I can picture wearing the looks on the red carpet. Now of course the people I see wearing the looks below are just my personal opinion, but I definitely think that the red carpets over the next several months that will include the Tribeca Film Festival, the No Time To Die promo tour, the Met Gala, the Cannes Film Festival, the Tony Awards, and more will see some major fashion moments. We are already seeing the looks from NYFW brought to life on the red carpet and the looks are phenomenal. I can’t wait to see what the next several months have in store. So enjoy these wishes and stay tuned my wishes for the runways of London Fashion Week are coming for you soon!

2020 Oscar Parties Red Carpet Wish List Part 1

Kicking off my final push to the Oscar night is a bunch of wishes I want to see brought to life on the red carpet at the Elton John AIDS Foundation Oscar Viewing Party and the Vanity Fair Oscar Party. Oscar night delivers literally hundreds of looks on the red carpet between the actual ceremony red carpet and telecast as well as the seemingly endless parties that take place. Now I actually know very little about who will be on the red carpet at the Oscar parties, but I try my best to give you an idea of who we may see. To come up with the people you will see in these wishes I pull names of people who are nominated and presenting at the actual Oscar ceremony, the co-chairs of the Elton John AIDS Foundation Gala, guests who are confirmed to attend pre-Oscar events, past regular attendees, and of course people whom I love/people whom I want to see specific wearing specific looks on the red carpet. So in the 36 looks in today’s set of Oscar party wishes feature everything from cocktail looks to couture ballgowns and pretty much everything in between. I am really hoping that Oscar night is the shining beacon in an awards season where fashion has been almost lackluster.

Oscar Night 2020 is Sunday February 9, 2020.

2020 Grammy Awards Red Carpet Wish List Part 3

The Grammy Awards are this weekend and I am just hoping that they deliver some super fashion moments as this awards season has been super lackluster in my opinion. I don’t know if it is just the fact I have been doing this for so long or the fact that I know there are so many better options out there or some combination of the both, but the ladies (and gentlemen of Hollywood) haven’t been able to snag my love and enamor towards anything they have worn for the most part. I am hoping the stars of music bring the drama to the red carpet and honestly a lot of the people on today’s set of wishes I know can do it. I NEED someone to wear the Balenciaga I’ve picked for Cardi for the Grammy’s. Seriously what other red carpet would that work for?

The 2020 Grammy Awards will take place on Sunday January 26, 2020.

2020 Critics Choice Awards Red Carpet Wish List

The 2020 Critics Choice Awards are slated to take place tomorrow night at the Barker Hanger in Santa Monica, California. This red carpet bridges the weekends between the Golden Globe Awards and the Screen Actors Guild Awards. Historically this red carpet is a little more laid back than the Globes and even the SAG’s, but given the low level of “go big or go home” at the Globes (save a few major gowns even if I didn’t love them) I am hoping that stars are planning some major moments on this red carpet. While many of the nominees convey from the Globes to the SAG’s there are also some differences and I know that there are going to be several faces making their first awards season appearance tomorrow night. I am definitely excited to see what will come from this red carpet. Below are the 35 looks I want to see from nominees, presenters, plus ones, and guests of nominated projects. I don’t expect a red carpet filled with 100+ big a-list stars but I want everyone who does attend to deliver major moments on the red carpet. Which of the looks below do you think would make the best moment for this red carpet?
