2021 Grammy Awards Red Carpet Wish List Part 6

As we get closer to the actual date of the Grammy’s my wishes are going to get a little more fantastical. While I am still incorporating picks for performers and nominees, some of my wishes are for people we would normally have seen on a Grammy’s red carpet. There are all sorts of great events happening before and after this years show which tell me that there would have been some great moments from those stars as they usually make appearances at those events and then at the Grammy’s themselves. So I am disappointed we are loosing out on some of those moments, but I am getting more and more excited for the future. Red carpets are sure to start returning in full force by the end of this year and I am very excited.Andra Day is one of those stars. She is attending one of those satellite events and with her major awards season run (so far in Chanel Couture and custom Prada) on the road to the Oscars I would definitely expect that we would have seen her at the Grammy’s. For her last two Grammy’s shes referenced bold retro inspired glam, but for this years show I would have gone for more 40’s femme fatale glamour with this deep pool blue velvet Ralph & Russo Fall 2018 Couture strapless column gown which features soft draping, a bustier bodice, intricate crystal snake embroidery, and a daring hip high spit. I love the super sexy Rita Hayworth vibe of this gown and I feel like Andra would be able to sell this gown to us easily. So I would have loved to see her wearing this gown with a sleek retro inspired updo, defined eyes, matte burgundy lips, a pair of gold Casadei rock crystal studded ankle strap sandals, and a statement 18k gold David Webb chain-link collar necklace with brilliant-cut white diamonds and black enamel. Billy Porter will be appearing in a Grammy special about the music connected to social movements in the weeks after the show. Knowing that I would have expected to see the fashionista on the red carpet. He always serves up major fashion moments and I’ve been dying to see Billy wear this lime green Palomo Spain Spring 2021 ensemble which features a floor length duster coat (with a robins egg blue lining) with matching trousers and a white shirt since it was first presented. I was going to use it for a “premiere” of a movie he will be staring in, but that movie release got pushed. So I was thrilled that I still got to put this wish into the universe. I would love to see this major fashion moment styled perfectly with a pair of gold Saint Laurent ‘Candy’ platform boots and a vintage Veruda ‘Nosegay’ peridot, white and yellow diamond brooch set in 18k gold and platinum. Cardi B will be performing on this years show Sunday night so I know she will be serving LOOKS. Her last two Grammy’s have both been in Mugler, both vintage and custom. I wanted a major moment this year and I found it in this black and silver Elie Saab Spring 2021 Couture one shoulder gown which features sequined “feather” 3D details on the bodice, a single sleeve, sheer construction, crystal embellished waist, and an a-line skirt. I have been all over this collection in my Grammy wishes picking looks for H.E.R. and Ariana Grande as well. Crazy thing is that while all three looks are coming from the same collection they all feel very different at the same time. I would absolutely love to see Cardi take this sexy yet glam moment and style it with a sleek updo, smokey winged eyes, bold red lips, a pair of black leather Christian Louboutin ‘Round Chick Alta 150 Black Kid’ scalloped edge peep toe ankle strap d’orsay platform pumps, and a selection of Amwaj jewels including white diamond waterfall chandelier earrings and a matching white diamond cocktail ring to really make this look come to life. John Legend has two Grammy nominations this year and that would definitely have meant we would have seen him and wife Chrissy Teigan on the Grammy’s red carpet this year. I am hoping that this social media savvy duo will still do some super chic fashion moments for the ‘gram. I picked two super dazzling and glam complimentary moments for the pair starting with a steel blue and silver floral jacquard metallic Tom Ford Fall 2021 Menswear tuxedo blazer styled with black trousers. Now the jacket is a favorite of mine from the Fall 2021 menswear collections and I feel like John would look phenomenal in it, but I would style it with a classic white tuxedo shirt, black tuxedo studs, a black bow tie, and a pair of black patent leather Jimmy Choo ‘Foxley/m’ tassel detailed loafers. Now for Chrissy I went with a shining moment with this metallic gunmetal grey pleated chiffon Georges Chakra Fall 2020 Couture strapless gown which features intricate ruffle details, a beaded waist, an a-line skirt, and a thigh high split. Chrissy always knows how to deliver high glam moments on the red carpet and this look would definitely make this a major moment on the red carpet. A sleek updo, defined eyes, dark mauve lips, a grey crystal embellished Jimmy Choo ‘Cloud’ clutch, a pair of metallic gunmetal grey Stuart Weitzman ‘Oracle 100’ crystal ball detailed ankle strap sandals, and statement arabesque inspired Karen Suen white diamond chandelier earrings would add the perfect finishing touches to this look. A winning duo for a fabulous couple. Best Country Song nominee Maren Morris will be performing with John Mayer at this Sunday’s show. I always find something to fault Maren with. I want to love her, but her style just is tacky and dated and very try to hard. I actually can’t believe I went here, but I picked two looks from D***e & G*****a Secrets & Diamonds collection. She wore D***e for the CMA Awards and it was one of her better looks. I just feel like if anyone could make me like a D***e moment now it would be Maren. For the “red carpet” I would love to see her wearing this black tiered gown with thick straps, intricate crystal embroidery, and a bustier bodice. It is all about glamour from head to toe and would be perfect with sleek old Hollywood waves over one shoulder, defined eyes, bold red lips, black suede Amina Muaddi ‘Vita’ strappy platform sandals, and a selection of Dena Kemp jewels including black and white diamond drop earrings and a matching link cocktail ring. For the performance I went with more dazzle for Maren picking this silver crystal fringe mini dress which I can see being a super modern flapper moment. Keeping the same beauty adding a soft waves, a pair of silver Aquazzura ‘Temptation’ crystal trimmed PVC peep toe slingback sandals, and more Dena Kemp jewels including white diamond fan cluster earrings, a three flower stud white diamond two finger ring, and a five row white diamond cocktail ring would make this look sparkle and shine in the best way possible on our television screens.

The 2021 Grammy Awards, hosted by Trevor Noah, will air live on CBS Sunday March 14, 2021. You can see all of my wishes for this years red carpet here.

2021 Golden Globe Awards Red Carpet Wish List Part 13

I am getting really excited to see what the Golden Globe Awards are going to bring this weekend. Almost every day we are getting announcements of new presenters who are going to appear live. So the wishes below are ones I definitely moment I am really excited to see. Let’s get into it, Annie Mumolo is back on the big screen right now in Barb and Star Go to Vista Del Mar and is expected to present this weekend. I can’t say that I know anything about her style, but I want to see her give a very chic and elegant moment on the red carpet. I turned to the virtual racks of Bergdorf Goodman and found this black CDGNY crepe column gown which features silver chainmail cap sleeves and a sweetheart neckline and fell in love. The gown is simple and classic, but the chainmail sleeves give this gown the perfect twist to make it a visually interesting moment. A sleek hairstyle tucked behind the ears, defined eyes, red lips, a black glitter medley plexi Tyler Ellis ‘Perry’ clutch, a pair of black Jimmy Choo ‘Emsy’ crystal embellished peep toe criss-cross sandals, and simple sparkle via Kwiat ‘Silhouette’ white diamond oval drop earrings would make this look scream glamour from head to toe. Bryce Dallas Howard has long railed against the red carpet system and how women dress. Instead of working with a stylist or trying to deal with the limitations of designer samples, the actress is known to buy her outfits right off the rack. For the promo tour for Rocketman Bryce turned to the virtual consignment racks of The Real Real to plan all of her outfits. So when I saw her name on a list of presenters for Sunday’s show I immediately turned to the virtual consignor again. I found this black and red floral print sleeveless Oscar De La Renta tea length gown with a dramatic train and open back and immediately fell in love with the idea of Bryce bringing it to life. This gown is from the brands Fall 2019 RTW collection and has actually already been worn on a red carpet, by Gina Rodriguez. I don’t think that would mean much to Bryce. I would style the look differently for Bryce than Gina did. I think that for Bryce that this gown should be styled with a big bun updo, defined eyes, bold red lips, a pair of red Francesco Russo cross strap pointed toe d’orsay pumps, and a vintage white diamond and ruby cluster earrings from Beladora. It would easily be Bryce’s best red carpet moment ever. Kristen Wiig hasn’t made a lot of red carpet appearances in the last couple of years, but when she has they have been MOMENTS. So when I saw her name on a list of presenters alongside her Barb and Star Go to Vista Del Mar co-star I knew I wanted a major moment from her again. This black sequined long sleeve column gown from the Prabal Gurung Fall 2021 RTW collection which features a jewel neckline, strong shoulders, crystal bow details, and a thigh high split is one of the few looks from this collection that I really love and I feel like Kristen would definitely make it come to life beautifully. It is a major 80’s moment and I would really run with it for Kristen. A side parted sleek pixie, smokey eyes, bold red lips, a pair of black satin Saint Laurent ‘Hall’ ankle strap silver crystal embellished sandals, and DAZZLING white diamond Amwaj High Jewelry waterfall earrings would pull this look together beautifully. Sofia Carson will be one of the hosts on the “red carpet” for the network like she did last year and I want to see her bring a DRAMATIC moment to the red carpet. She is a huge fan of Giambattista Valli so it was a no-brainier for me to turn to the label once again opting for this black ruffled halter gown with an open back and a-line skirt. It is glamorous, avant garde, and dramatic all rolled together so it checks all of Sofia’s boxes and would be a major red carpet moment especially if styled with a sleek updo, defined eyes, bold glossy red lips, a pair of black Amina Muaddi ‘Ursina 105’ pointed toe pumps with a crystal embellished strap, and dazzling white diamond and emerald David Morris starburst drop earrings. Finishing out today is the gorgeous Tiffany Haddish. Regular readers are going to be SHOCKED that I am picking a look for Tiffany from D***e & G*****a. I don’t easily turn to the label, but I know her stylist isn’t afraid to put his clients in the problematic brand and despite all of those problems I still love this navy, turquoise, and sky blue color blocked pleated gown with a halter neck, defined waist, a-line, and flowing train from the brands Fall 2019 Alta Moda Couture collection. So when I was looking for the perfect gown for Tiffany and I saw this gown in my archives I knew it would be a perfect fit. She loves a great color moment and I feel like this is here for Tiffany’s major fashion choices as of late. I would style this gown with her shaved head, thick defined eyes, glossy nude lips, a pair of navy crystal embellished Aquazzura ‘Tequila 105’ strappy sandals, and MATEO NY ‘Something Blue’ 14k gold set blue topaz and white diamond drop earrings to really make sure this look is glamour from head to toe.

The 2021 Golden Globe Awards will take place on Sunday February 28, 2021. You can see all of my wishes for this years event here.

2020 American Music Awards Red Carpet Wish List Part 3

I am SOOOOOO excited for the 2020 American Music Awards. With the confirmed performers, the nominees, and the hostess I am expecting some major fashion moments. I keep getting excited about fashion moments to come. I thought I had put my Best Dressed of the Year list to wrap, but with every event the stars continue to bring it. I appreciate that immensely since we have been deprived of so many big red carpets this year. I am hoping that the stars who we will see this weekend at the American Music Awards will bring the drama, glamour, and couture. The looks featured in today’s wishes all could be be real Best Dressed contenders. Ariana Grande is nominated, with Lady Gaga, for three American Music Awards. I would honestly be surprised if Ari doesn’t perform this weekend with her new album just dropping and all. I feel like her style is finally starting to mature and evolve so I am very interested in seeing what this years red carpet will bring. I saw this Jean Louis Sebaj Fall 2020 Couture empire waist bubble hem high low gown which features a black tulle over to an iridescent silk under-layer and immediately knew I would love to see Ariana bring it to life on the red carpet at the American Music Awards. It is a major glam moment that I feel is a perfect bridge moment for Ari. It is sexy yet a frothy voluminous look. I would love to see Ariana style this gown with a sleek braided high bun updo, smokey eyes, dark antique rose pink lips, black Casadei ‘Flora Folies Bergere’ mesh peep toe platform mary-jane pumps, and a selection of Butani jewels including a pair of  simple two row pear cut white diamond drop earrings and a statement 12 carat oval opal cocktail ring. It would definitely make a major red carpet moment for Ariana.  Dua Lipa announced the nominees for the 2020 American Music Awards, is nominated for two, and will be performing her latest single “Levitating. I have long been a fan of Dua, her music, and her style. When it came to what I wanted to see from Dua on this red carpet I had many options, but ultimately decided that since I didn’t use this sheer crystal chandelier strapless Schiaparelli Spring 2020 Couture tea length gown which features a plunging sweetheart neckline and a think silver belted waist for my hostess wishes for Taraji P. Henson that I wanted it to be Dua to bring this dress to life. I really want to see this dress worn. I feel like Dua knows how to bring sexy glamour to life on the red carpet. That is exactly what this gown is. To really make this look major glam from head to toe I would love to see Dua style this look with a sleek updo, black and silver glitter smokey eyes, bold red lips, a pair of silver crystal embellished PVC Aquazzura ‘Heaven’ pointed toe slingback pumps, and major white diamond and grey spinel Nikos Koulis ‘Universe Line’ double circle earrings. I don’t know anything about Gabby Barrett’s style aside from the seafoam Talbot Runhof caped gown she wore for the CMA Awards last week. We got to know Gabby as she made it to third place on American Idol Season. I’ve always said that the runners up do better than the winners from American Idol. Gabby finds herself nominated for Favorite Female Artist – Country at this years American Music Awards alongside country hit-makers Miranda Lambert & Maren Morris. After that chic caped moment I decided that I wanted to put some wish energy out into the universe for her to wear on this red carpet if she makes the jaunt to Hollywood. I LOVE this one shoulder red Jovani bow detailed mermaid gown with a peplum waist for her. I had to keep in mind that Gabby has a growing baby bump, but I feel like this look would be a super chic maternity moment for her to bring to life. A sleek updo, defined eyes, dark pink lips, red crystal embellished Via Spiga ‘V-Nora2’ strappy pumps, and a pair of Atelier Swarovski ‘Lola’ lab created white diamond and ruby tear drop earrings would definitely pull this looks together perfectly.Maluma will be performing “Pa’ Ti + Lonely” with JLo from the soundtrack of their upcoming film, Marry Me. When it comes to fashion Maluma knows how to bring some high fashion moments to the red carpet. Now that being said he wore a cartoonish look he wore for the EMA’s earlier this month was not one of his finer moments. I would love to see him redeem himself at the VMA’s wearing this baby pink Versace Spring 2021 RTW oversized tuxedo which features which features a crystal starfish boutonniere, tank top undershirt, and a tonal pink belt in lieu of a cummerbund. I love this suit and white I would love a more tailored version for myself I can definitely picture the whole thing as presented on Maluma. The look is cool so I would love to see this look styled with a pair of light pink and silver Adidas by Raf Simons x Ozweego ‘Mirrored – Clear Pink’ chunky sneakers, silver mirrored lens and white acrylic Versace tiny angled sunglasses, and a white diamond Norman Silverman round cut straight line necklace set in 18K white gold. Finishing out today are some looks I really grappled with. Regular readers will know that since the whole China debacle I have pretty much made If I Was A Stylist a Dolce & Gabbana free zone. I don’t respect the brand anymore. But that being said, the brand got a new VIP PR guy earlier this year and they have made a huge resurgence on the red carpet. So it is inevitable that we will see Dolce on the red carpet. I will never go immediately to a look from Dolce, but when I haven’t felt the spark click with anything else I will look at looks from the Italian fashion house. That is what happened when I was looking at looks for Favorite Female Artist – Latin nominee Rosalia. I don’t know if we will even see her on this red carpet, but if we do I think she would look phenomenal wearing this deep rose red Dolce & Gabbana Alta Moda Fall 2020 red chiffon gown which featured a corseted bodice, thick straps, bodysuit, a hip high split, and a dramatic train. It is a super glamorous and sexy moment and I feel like it would definitely let Rosalia deliver a major confident glam moment. Style it with old Hollywood waves worn over one shoulder, defined eyes, matching red lips, a pair of red Pollini gold crystal trimmed ankle strap suede sandals, and statement David Webb ‘Spoil Her’ chandelier earrings which features oval and pear-shaped cabochon rubies, brilliant-cut diamonds set in 18K gold and platinum and it would be a major glamour moment for her to bring to the red carpet. I also picked an “inside” look that is shorter and easier to get around in with this sheer black embroidered lace Dolce & Gabbana crystal chandelier fringe embellished cami strapped sheath dress. This dress is definitely more of the classic Dolce look we are used to seeing. I would swap the red carpet styling for thick bouncy retro curls, defined eyes, red lips, black Christian Louboutin ‘Galativi P Strass 100’ pointed toe mesh paneled pumps, and a pair of super chic David Webb ‘Twilight’ carved rock crystal, brilliant-cut diamond, and carved black onyx chandelier earrings set in 18K white gold to make this look super chic as well.

The 2020 American Music Awards will take place on Sunday November 22, 2020. Check out all of my wishes for this red carpet here.

50 of the Most ICONIC Red Carpet Looks EVER Part 9

Today we continue with my 50 of the Most ICONIC Red Carpet Looks EVER list. I did my research. The looks in this list are all based on looks that stars wore on red carpets all over the world. Now while some might think of Audrey Hepburn, Marilyn Monroe, Grace Kelly, Katherine Hepburn, Rita Hayworth, and Twiggy when they think of iconic fashion moments. That is true, but you won’t find any of them on these lists. If you’re ready to ask me why I have an answer. Mostly their iconic fashion moments all were created for them by the costume designers contracted by the studios they worked for. I wanted to include only the looks that weren’t planned in conjunction with the studio for their impact. They might have been pulled together by high paid stylist, but not in a way that a studio would craft a look for their star based on the image they wanted them to have. Now this look is only ranked from the oldest to the newest and not based on how iconic I think that the look is. So let’s get into it.41) Sonam Kapoor in Ralph & Russo Couture at the 2016 Cannes Film Festival: The Cannes Film Festival is a place where cultures come to be celebrated and collide. So it makes sense that we often see stars wearing looks that pay homage to their heritage. Sonam Kapoor has long been one of the biggest fashionista’s to come out of India and usually pays homage to Indian culture in one or another on the red carpets in Cannes when she attends. In 2016 she brought the drama giving us east meets west glam with this white custom Ralph & Russo Couture asymmetrical caped gown. She commanded the red carpet wearing this gown which finds its Indian inspiration in the hand done embroidery. She always owns Cannes but making sure she delivered the requisite Cannes “Go Big or Go Home” drama while still paying homage to her roots definitely made this look ICONIC to me. 42) Michelle Obama in Atelier at the 2016 Italian White House State Dinner: Over the course of her time in the White House Michelle Obama delivered plenty of major fashion moments. Most of her eight years was spent championing emerging and established American designers, but 2016 she threw some major couture into the mix with looks from Gucci, Givenchy, & Atelier Versace. In 2016 I was working as a campaign organizer on Hillary Clinton’s Presidential Campaign. I will never forget sitting in my campaign office making voter contact calls while on a quick mental health break I was scrolling through Instagram and I saw a grainy video showing Michelle wearing this rose gold custom Atelier Versace draped chainmail gown I let out the loudest gasp and screamed yesssssssssss. I never would have expected this look from Michelle, but it really was her putting on her armor in the midst of a contentious campaign. I think that the subtle hint of going to battle is what made this look instantly iconic to me. 43) Evan Rachel Wood in Altuzarra at the 2017 Golden Globe Awards: In 2017 Evan Rachel Wood made a pledge to wear pants for all her red carpet appearances, and she lived up to that. It was easily her black Marlene Dietrich inspired custom Altuzarra white tie tuxedo that she wore to kick off that initiative that I think is one of the most successful menswear inspired moments ever on the red carpet. Everything about this look screams masculine meets feminine and Evan Rachel Wood definitely really sold it to me. 44) Zendaya in Dolce & Gabbana at the 2017 Met Gala: Zendaya has always been one of my favorite stars to see on the red carpet. As much as it pains me to feature anything Dolce & Gabbana on this website, but I really feel like this hand painted parrot print Dolce & Gabbana Alta Moda gown that Zendaya wore for the Rei Kawakubo themed Met Gala was her big princess I have arrived moment. It wasn’t her first Met Gala red carpet but it was her biggest. Everything about this look screamed excellence from head to toe. She showed us that glamour doesn’t have to be defined by plain gowns with embellishments. This is only the third look that features a print that made my list of ICONIC red carpet looks list. 45) Aishwarya Rai in Michael Cinco Couture at the 2017 Cannes Film Festival: Bollywood star Aishwarya Rai has been a fixture on the Cannes Film Festival red carpet for almost two decades. When she showed up for the red carpet at the Palais de Festivals in 2017 wearing this larger than life Michael Cinco Couture ‘Cinderella’ ball gown she took my breath away. The glamour of this look was everything. It commands attention. It deserves that attention. When I think of the Cannes red carpet anymore I think of this gown and it is easy to see why.

50 of the Most ICONIC Red Carpet Looks EVER Part 2

So let’s get into it.6) Sharon Stone in GAP and Vera Wang at the 1998 Academy Awards: When it comes to Sharon Stone’s style we typically think of sex appeal. While that is the case typically the one look from her that I am including in this list is much more conservative, but still oozes sex appeal in a different way. When she attended the 1998 Academy Awards Sharon decided to take a crisp white GAP button down out of her husband’s closet and paired it with a lavender satin evening skirt it was a new way to give us sensuality. The act of wearing your husbands shirt is so sensual and hot. It was the first time on a major red carpet this was done, and for that it earns a spot on this list of iconic red carpet moments. 7) Liv Tyler & Stella McCartney in Stella McCartney at the 1999 Met Gala: The theme of the 1999 Met Gala was “Rock Style.” So princess of Rock and Roll Liv Tyler (Daughter of Aerosmith front man Steven Tyler) and Stella McCartney (daughter of Beetles front man Paul McCartney) walked the red carpet together giving us rock glamour. Stella was in her early years as a fashion designer and for this red carpet the pair rocked custom one shoulder t-shirt tops studded with crystals and emblazoned with the phrase “Rock Royalty.” The pair is definitely that. It was a true embodiment of the theme and I feel like these two giving us this moment was worthy of a spot on my 50 Most ICONIC Red Carpet Moments Ever list. 8) Jennifer Lopez in Versace at the 2000 Grammy Awards: I mean come on could I really create a list of iconic red carpet moments without including Jennifer Lopez’s ICONIC green Versace “Jungle Dress.” The answer is absolutely not. This gown is literally the reason why Google Images exist. It has been parodied on the Oscars red carpet by South Park creator Trey Parker. Jennifer has worn an iteration on tour several years ago and last September she and Versace almost broke Instagram having her wear the “modern” version of the gown to close the Versace Spring 2020 RTW show. This dress has spurred a million knockoffs and is one of the red carpet moments that people think of when you ask them what’s an iconic fashion moment. So yea it had to be included in this list. 9) Naomi Campbell & Iman in Dolce & Gabbana at the 2001 Met Gala: It pains me to include anything Dolce & Gabbana in any list be it a wish list or an iconic list, but the brand has been ever present for decades. Their first appearance on my 50 Most ICONIC Red Carpet Moments list comes from Naomi Campbell and Iman at the 2001 ‘Jacqueline Kennedy: The White House Years’ themed Met Gala. Obviously Naomi & Iman decided to go full Dolce instead of sticking to the theme. These looks definitely ushered in 2000’s style where it was all about the sex appeal. These looks are what made Dolce & Gabbana famous. They turned underwear into outerwear in a super glamorous manner. It sparked a decade of sex following the extravagance of the 80’s and minimalism of the 90’s meshing the two together in a major way making this fashion moment iconic. 10) Britney Spears & Justin Timberlake at the 2001 American Music Awards: I have to say not all the looks I’ve chosen as my 50 most iconic moments list are things I’ve liked. Case and point? Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake wearing their matching custom patchwork light wash denim at the 2001 American Music Awards. Do I think these looks are good? Hell no. These looks are UGLY. But they continue to be talked about. They continue to inspire fashion. Denim still isn’t a fabric than can be used for formal occasions very well, but these looks paved the way for designers to continue to try.

2020 Cannes Film Festival What Could Have Been Wish List: “The Man Who Sold His Skin”

According to Screen Daily there was strong buzz around Tunisian director Kaouther Ben Hania’s drama The Man Who Sold His Skin competing in this years competition. Ben Hania’s last film Beauty And The Dogs premiered in Un Certain Regard in 2017.  This film follows the story of a Syrian refugee who agrees to have a Schengen visa tattooed onto his back as part of an art project and is Ben Hania’s most ambitious feature to date staring an international cast which includes Italy’s Monica Bellucci, Belgium’s Koen De Bouw and Tunisian actor Yahya Mahay. When it comes to the red carpet Monica Bellucci typically sticks to a small box of designers including Dior, Chanel, Alaia, Alexandre Vauthier, and D**e & G*****a. So when I was picking looks for her to wear to promote The Man Who Sold His Skin I knew it wasn’t worth stepping out of her comfort zone. So for the photocall I went for couture business chic with this off white Christian Dior Spring 2020 Couture draped blazer skirt suit. The look is simple and chic. I think that is exactly what I want to see Monica wearing to really bring to life in Cannes. I would style this look with a bohemian bob, defined eyes, rose pink lips, and a pair of white Christian Dior ‘J’Adior’ slingback polka dot embroidered mesh pointed toe pumps to really make this an uber sophisticated moment for Monica to wear in Cannes. Now for the premiere I turned to the label Monica favors the most even though I don’t feature them except on VERY RARE occasion since their big racist debacle and their calling stars whom they have dressed in the past ugly, D**e & G*****a. It hasn’t stopped Monica from being associated with the brand so it wasn’t hard to decide to make this wish. I will say that especially when it comes to their Alta Moda couture collections I am usually a huge fan of D**e & G*****a designs. So I have a look from the D**e & G*****a Spring 2020 Alta Moda Couture collection that I could see being worn two ways. Had The Man Who Sold His Skin screened at a daytime premiere I would have loved to see Monica wear this gold fully beaded roman inspired, ruffled cap sleeve, round neck, pencil fit calf length dress as it was presented on the runway with old Hollywood waves, smokey eyes, red lips, a gold heavily embellished D**e & G*****a clutch, a pair of gold metallic leather and mesh Christian Louboutin ‘Maia Labella’ crystal embellished strappy pointed toe pumps, and Chopard Red Carpet Collection yellow diamond chandelier earrings. If the premiere were a 6pm gala premiere or a 9pm premiere I would have wanted to see Monica have this look custom made into a floor length gown styling it the exact same way. One look done two ways I definitely think that either would ensure that even if I would loathe the label choice that Monica dazzles on the Cannes Film Festival red carpet. Since Ana de Armas is a star of the next James Bond film No Time To Die, which was originally going to be released in late April, I was expecting to see her in Cannes this year as a guest of Chopard. The jeweler is the official jeweler of both No Time To Die as well as of the Cannes Film Festival. So I have picked some super glamorous moments I wanted to see Anna bring to life in Cannes starting with this plum to rose ombre Elie Saab Fall 2018 Couture off the shoulder gown which features a sheer overlay construction, long sleeves, a plunging sweetheart neckline, 3-d beaded floral applique detail on the waist, and a full ball skirt. This color is fantastic and this gown has just been waiting for a red carpet moment and I think that Ana would be the perfect person to bring this glamorous moment to life. A romantic updo, defined winged smokey eyes, matching rose lips, a pair of ballet pink Jimmy Choo ‘Dochas’ crystal trimmed ankle strap sandals, and glamorous white diamond Chopard Red Carpet Collection ‘Precious’ drop earrings would definitely had ensured that Ana would have delivered glamour from head to toe. Supermodel Natasha Poly is a regular in Cannes as a guest of L’Oreal Paris. So I knew I had to make sure the was included in my wishes this year. I have always loved seeing Natasha on the red carpet as she always oozes glamour and sex appeal no matter what she is wearing. For this years festival I turned to a label we’ve seen Natasha wear in Cannes several times: Atelier Versace. But instead of picking a look from one of the recent collections I dug deep into the brands couture archive. I love this peach pink pleated Atelier Versace Fall 2000 Couture one sleeve draped gown which features intricate beading throughout and a side split. It screams bohemian glamour in a super sexy manner and that is exactly what I know Natasha can deliver on the festival’s red carpet. A sleek updo, smokey eyes, matte nude lips, a pair of champagne gold satin Versace ‘Medusa’ studded strappy platform sandals, and a selection of MAJOR de Grisogono High Jewelry including tsavorite, amethyst, and pink coral pendant drop earrings and a statement pink coral, white diamond, and amethyst cuff bracelet would ensure that Natasha just oozes bohemian sensuality from head to toe.

2020 Golden Globe Awards Red Carpet Wish List Part 2

Tomorrow are the 2020 Golden Globe Awards and with each hour that passes I am getting more and more excited to see what all the stars are going to bring to the red carpet. From nominees, to a stacked list of presenters, all the stars who aren’t nominated but are part of nominated films and television series, and the a-list plus ones I am sure that we are going to see major moments from everyone on this red carpet. I was feeling uninspired with fashion and red carpets by the end of last year. For the first time since I started blogging I didn’t put out a Best Dressed of the Year list, but recent events and stars like Cynthia Erivo and Jennifer Lopez have made me super excited to see what 2020 is going to bring to the red carpet. Below are 22 major gowns and menswear moments I want to see the stars line up tomorrow on the red carpet delivering one major fashion moment after another on this red carpet.

“The Lion King” LA Premiere Red Carpet Wish List

Okay I have been looking forward to this premiere for about 2 years now. As the casting for The Lion King “live action” remake was announced I knew that this was going to be one of my favorite tours of the year. Now it hasn’t officially kicked off yet, but I suspect that it will at some point this week. I do wonder who will travel to where while promoting this film around the world. Well when it comes down to it I am expecting to see the entire cast on the red carpet when the film premieres in LA next Tuesday July 9, 2019. Donald Glover voices grown Simba in this movie and I would imagine he will be the one traveling the world for all of the press events and premieres for the movie for sure. I love Donald and his sense of style. He knows how to put forth the extra effort to stand out in a crowd, while still exuding classic menswear elegance. For the LA premiere of The Lion King I want to see Donald go for the bold. Its has been eight months since the last time I have posted a Dolce & Gabbana look on If I Was A Stylist. Following the whole Selena Gomez and China controversies last year I blocked the main Dolce & Gabbana and Stefano Gabbana accounts on Instagram and have refused to put the brand on my wish lists going through all of awards season, the Met Gala, and the Cannes Film Festival. I am happy that at least a few of the previously mentioned events. But very slowly some stars have returned to wearing the brand on the red carpet, mostly the menswear. Donald’s stylist Ilaria Urbinati is one of the few who have put her clients in Dolce following the scandal. So for this premiere I went to the Dolce & Gabbana Fall 2019 Menswear collection and this multi tone brown tuxedo which features a sequined tuxedo jacket with contrasting printed silk lapels, a matching vest, tie, and pants, and a solid silk button down for Donald. I went through all kinds of options for him to bring to life on this red carpet and as I looked at what I had picked for everyone else and I just couldn’t find anything that fit the vibe I had chosen for them. Then I saw this. It works perfectly for this big blockbuster movie premiere and I believe that rocking the head to toe look for Donald would be perfect. When Beyonce was cast as Nala I knew that this tour was going to be major, but given the fact that she hasn’t walked a red carpet in almost 2 years makes me wonder if she will be out promoting this film or if she is just going to sneak in the back doors like she has done for every other major event the last couple of years. She has been giving nods to The Lion King and African styling over the last couple of looks she has rocked. It was very literally in the custom lion face feather embellished caped Georges Hobeika Couture jumpsuit that she wore for her mothers annual Wearable Art gala and then she took inspiration from the traditional Maasai ring collars in custom Phuong My for the AFI Life Achievement Award Gala. I definitely decided to keep the inspiration going with this custom Balmain gown which features traditional Zulu inspired rope collar and shoulder capelet completely beaded of course. The black and white tribal pattern bodice hails from the Balmain Resort 2020 collection and is embellished with sequins, beads, and crystals. and the feathered skirt and train add the drama to this ensemble. This gown is so good that it would be a shame not to see Beyonce actually walk the red carpet at the premiere wearing this gown. Styling the look with a high bun of braids, smokey eyes, dark crimson red lips, a pair of black Christian Louboutin ‘Levitagirl’ silver studded PVC strap peep toe platform sandals, and a pair of Lorraine Schwartz diamond ear jackets that already live in Beyonce’s jewelry vault would ensure this look is dramatic perfection from head toe toe. Alfre Woodard voices Sarabi in The Lion King. She has never really been one that I get excited about when it comes to this movie tour I am expecting that everyone will be bring their a-game to the red carpet. I was thinking of how I didn’t want everything to be tribal inspired for this tour, so I deiced to go for more dramatic glamour picking this wine Tadashi Shoji Fall 2019 RTW column gown which features dramatic cape sleeves, a keyhole cutout bodice, and gold embroidery for Alfre to wear on this red carpet. This look is modest and dramatic all at the same time and that is what I think Alfre would be drawn to. Fully bouncy curls, defined eyes, matching wine lips, a pair of gold Stuart Weitzman snake effect metallic leather pointed toe pumps, and chic Marco Bicego ‘Africa Constellation’ 18k gold graduated disc diamond drop earrings would add the perfect finishing touches to this look. I don’t know much about Florence Kasumba, who voiced Shenzi in The Lion King, but I have to say she is beautiful. I honestly had picked this burnt orange Christian Siriano Resort 2020 crackled glaze draped silk chiffon, column silhouette, sheer paneled bodice, draped overlay, and sash train detailed gown for the LA premiere of The Lion King before I had any idea of who was actually in the cast besides Donald and Beyonce. I saw this gown and immediately went to IMBD to see who else was in the cast. While I had no idea who she was, but the moment I saw her I knew I had found the perfect person to wear this gown on the red carpet at this premiere. I love this gown, but would love to see the “nude” paneling and under skirt to match Florence completely so that the effect is the same it is on the white model. Siriano is typically a master at making sure that all skin tones are celebrated and so I would totally trust that would be the case. A pair of gold Aquazzura ‘Whisper’ strappy metallic leather sandals, defined eyes, bold red lips, and a pair of gold Fernando Jorge ‘Radiant’ starburst diamond cluster earrings would ensure that Florence is here to be noticed for the movie star that she is.

The LA premiere of The Lion King is expected to take place on Tuesday July 9, 2019.

“The Nutcracker and the Four Realms” London Premiere Red Carpet Wish List

I am expecting of all the premieres that The Nutcracker and the Four Realms is set to have that it will be the one in London that delivers the best fashion. Most of the cast is British and they tend to save their most major moments for their home front red carpet. I am honestly really excited to see what everyone is going to bring to the red carpet at this premiere. I went bold and glamorous for almost everyone!Of my wishes for this red carpet my most subdued is the gown I’ve picked for Ellie Bamber. The gorgeous redheaded actress basically only wears Chanel or Tom Ford, and I decided to keep my Chanel wishes for her going. While I went for very bold gowns for everyone else on this list I was drawn to this simple black Chanel Fall 2018 Couture one shoulder column gown which features beautiful crystal embellishments for Ellie. I think that this simple style is very much along Ellie’s style lines and while it isn’t in color on the runway I also think that Karl could make this gown in red, royal blue, emerald green, or amethyst for Ellie as well. I really would love to see this gown in amethyst with her red hair in a romantic updo. If she stuck with the black I think defined eyes, red lips, black Chanel lambskin & grosgrain cap toe pumps, and a pair of Van Cleef & Arpels diamond garland earrings would add the perfect finishing touches. Helen Mirren is probably the person in this cast that I am most excited to see on the red carpet. She always delivers MOMENTS when she walks the red carpet and I have high expectations for the looks she will deliver while promoting The Nutcracker and the Four Realms. I wanted to play to the fantasy of the film with the look for her to wear on the red carpet at the premiere in London so when I saw this dazzling multicolored Dolce & Gabbana Alta Moda Fall 2018 long sleeve gown embellished with intricate sequin embellishments and feather trimming along the cuffs and hem of the gown I was immediately sold. It is definitely a very out there gown and I don’t think that many could make it work, but with her quirky sense of glamour I really do believe that Helen could really sell this look to me on the red carpet. The gown itself is such a statement that I want to keep the styling very simple with a whispy pixie style, defined eyes, soft pink lips, a navy Jimmy Choo ‘Celeste’ clutch, and a pair of navy lace Dolce & Gabbana ‘Bellucci’ pumps. When I was thinking about looks I want to see Keira Knightley wearing while out promoting The Nutcracker and the Four Realms, in which she plays the iconic role of the Sugar Plum Fairy, I knew that Chanel had to be in the mix. Keira has really wowed me while she has been out promoting her other film this fall Colette and done so mostly in Chanel Couture. I have been waiting to put her in this oyster grey Chanel Fall 2018 Couture tea length silk taffeta gown which features an embellished high collar neckline, bold puffy sleeves with crystal embellished cuffs, an embellished waist, high splits over a mini skirt, and beaded trimming on the seams for weeks now. I have wanted to put it on basically every wish list that Keira has appeared on since the show took place, but I have been holding it back (hoping that it wouldn’t be worn) saving it for this specific premiere. Like the Dolce gown I picked for Helen I think that this gown was made to promote this film and I really do believe that Keira would make this a major moment. It honestly (with the perfect styling) could be a Best Dressed of the Year worthy moment. Speaking of that perfect styling I think that this gown is a statement in itself so I want to make some simple choices adding a romantic updo, smokey eyes, dusty rose pink lips, silver Nicholas Kirkwood ‘Mira’ pearl detail sandals, and Chanel Fine Jewelry pearl and diamond feather earrings to really make this a perfect moment from head to toe. As Clara I am expecting Mackenzie Foy to really deliver some major moments on the red carpet over the course of this promo tour. I am expecting that the London premiere is going to be the most fantastic of them all. I decided to up the princess glamour even more from the Rodarte gown I picked for Mackenzie to wear for the films premiere in LA with this beautiful pink Georges Hobeika Fall 2018 Couture gown which features a corset vest inspired embroidered bodice and a tiered full ball skirt. I know that this is that frothy tulle moment we usually see from a Fanning sister, but I think that for this premiere that this would really be the perfect moment. Stand alone movie premieres usually don’t usually warrant such bold style moments, but I really do believe that this is the perfect gown for this moment. I believe that with a romantic updo, defined eyes, pink lips, and a pair of pink velvet Sophia Webster ‘Royalty’ tiara inspired sandals that this would be the most major moment that Mackenzie has ever had.

The LA premiere of The Nutcracker and the Four Realms is expected on Thursday November 1, 2018.

15 Looks From Milan Fashion Week Spring 2019 I Want To See On The Red Carpet

Milan Fashion Week ended almost two and a half weeks ago, but I have just been so busy that I haven’t had a chance to get my 15 favorite looks that I want to see on the red carpet list out there. These posts take a lot of time not just because I have to go through all of the collections and narrow down all the looks down to just 15 but have to research the collections and then pick who I want to see wearing the looks on the red carpet. Over the course of Milan Fashion Week I saved over 350 looks that I think have red carpet potential. These looks cover everything from major gowns to cocktail moments to chic casual looks for press events to edgy performance looks. I went through all of those collections and narrowed them down to the following 15. These are the looks from Milan Fashion Week – Spring 2019 that I want to see on a red carpet.Attico: One of the brands that I have loved watching grow over the last year is Attico. It is one of the chicest, very Italian brands who deliver very wearable glamour in their collections. For Spring 2019 RTW the collection was a major love letter to the 80’s and I definitely think we will see many looks from he collection on the red carpet. Over the last year stars have really embraced the brand for cocktail and press appearances. In fact Olga Kurylenko has already brought a feathered buster and leather cargo pants ensemble from the brands Spring 2019 RTW collection to life for the London premiere of Jenny English Strikes Again. I went for more a simple look from this collection for Jennifer Lopez with this lilac and orange creamsicle fluid pois jacquard ‘Pat’ dress which features puff shoulders, faux wrap style, a v-neckline, a tie detail at waist, and embellished shoulder details. This dress is very chic and wearable and if JLo rocked this for a press stop during her upcoming movie promo tour I think it would be perfection.

Dolce & Gabbana: In the wake of Stefano Gabbana calling Selena Gomez, whom Dolce & Gabbana had dressed several times over the years, ugly it seemed like the Time’s Up movement was going to really push a boycott of the brand. However since the brand is such a fashion powerhouse I don’t think is going to stop stars from wearing the brand on the red carpet. In fact Cardi B just wore a dramatic gown from this collection on the red carpet at the American Music Awards. Aside from that Domenico & Stefano showed a collection that really embraced all of the codes that they have infused into the brands DNA over the last 33 years. The show was a celebration of women, a diverse group of women. There were women of different sizes, every color, and many age groups. It was actually really beautiful. The moment I saw this blue and natural sleeveless mixed-fringe midi dress which features contrasting rows of fringe and tassels throughout, a midi length, and a column silhouette I pictured it being rocked by Amal Clooney as she is spotted headed out on a date night with George.

Emporio Armani: I usually wouldn’t pay much attention to Emporio Armani, but with bold colors and sparkling embellishments my inner magpie was drawn to this collection. This faction of the Armani brand is usually geared towards a younger crowd and I really think that there are quite a few looks that young Hollywood stars will want to fight over. I think that if anyone could really make this electric lime green and royal blue strapless jumpsuit which features intricate sequin and feathered embroidery and I definitely think it would be Halsey.Ermanno Scervino: When you look at an Ermanno Scervino collection you know you are going to get two things volume and glamour. The brand is known for those and doesn’t veer from that very often. While you don’t get boundary pushing designs like you can find at other Milan based brands like Marni, Prada, or Gucci you know that there will be great red carpet options from Ermanno Scervino. Orange is a huge trend for Spring 2019 RTW and I think that Jasmine Sanders would be the perfect person to bring this Ermanno Scervino Spring 2019 RTW orange tea length gown which features a strapless sweetheart neckline and dramatic ruffles offering of the trend to life on the red carpet.

Etro: While Etro is a very successful brand when it comes to sales they don’t often get a whole lot of red carpet love. The brand, known for bold eccentric prints, doesn’t focus on celebrities to influence sales likes some other brands so when they do end up on a red carpet I get very excited. There aren’t a whole lot of looks from the Etro Spring 2019 RTW collection that I think could be red carpet looks, but this black white and yellow floral print one shoulder gown is definitely one that I think could be really chic. I think that if anyone could really make this look work, probably on one of the more causal party red carpets, it would be supermodel turned actress Suki Waterhouse.

Fausto Puglisi: In an off season from showing a runway show Fausto Puglisi showed an 80’s Flashdance inspired collection in a presentation/lookbook. The collection was very much repetitive, but it is definitely something that I think many music stars will be drawn to. While I typically pick red carpet looks for this list it was this cape meets letterman jacket and color blocked swimsuit that really spoke to me from this collection. I immediately pictured Rita Ora rocking this look for one of her many performances. Giorgio Armani: I wasn’t thrilled with the Giorgio Armani Spring 2019 RTW. I was hoping for really amazing things, but I was rather underwhelmed with what Mr. Armani sent down the runway. The fit of the collection overall was terrible and the color palette reminded me of a Dixie disposable cup. I do however want to thee this Monet ‘Waterlilies’ inspired print beaded fringe cap sleeve jumpsuit which features a plunging v-neckline, and cutout sides and back on the red carpet and wouldn’t supermodel Karolina Kurkova just really deliver this look with ease on the red carpet?

Marni: Marni is one of the rarest brands on this list to see on the red carpet. It used to be a favorite of Anna Wintour, Maggie Gyllenhaal, and Carey Mulligan. It had a hit H&M collaboration. But we don’t often see the brand on the red carpet anymore. I will say there weren’t too many looks from the Spring 2019 RTW collection that I think have what it takes to make a really chic red carpet moment (plenty of items that can be incorporated into your personal wardrobe though,) but this neutral canvas sleeveless midi dress which features a ruched exaggerated waist, a gathered a-line skirt, and blue hand-painted floral detail throughout made Keira Knightley pop into my mind. It could be a really chic press look while she is out promoting The Nutcracker and the Four Realms.

Missoni: In the last year we have seen a revitalized celebrity love of Milan based knitwear brand Missoni on the red carpet. The brand has been back to more creative looks than just reinventing its signature multicolored zig zag print over and over again. It’s almost like the brand has gone through a bit of a renaissance again. While incredibly easy to wear knits were the focus of the brands Spring 2019 RTW collection there were a handful of looks that I could definitely see celebrity stylists vying to get their hands on. One of those looks was this slate blue sheer halter gown which features layers of metallic knit layers. This is a very easy glam moment and the moment I saw it I immediately thought it would be something that Zoe Saldana would be drawn to. Moschino: There was a bit of controversy surrounding Jeremy Scott’s Spring 2019 Collection for Moschino. Edda Gimnes, a Norwegian womenswear designer based in London, accused Scott to taking un-credited inspiration from one of her collections that heavily featured a marker print as did this collection, but I have to say that the kitschy (campy) spirit of this print is something that has been in the Moschino archive for many years. He gave several examples of this technique in his defense including a Moschino ad campaign from 1986 and a jacket (similar to the one shown above) shown in the Moschino Spring 1992 collection. I loved the major artist doodle pad meets Pretty Woman vibe that was given in this collection. Jeremy is one of the masters, and I definitely think that the MET Museum picked wrong in its choice of designer co-chairs for next years MET Gala. The show started strong with the black and white trompe-l’œil print crepe suit which features a bow front blazer and a pair of tapered pants and just continued to deliver hit look after hit look. I was taken with that suit because it seemed to be the perfect meshing of the brands signature camp and a sense of wearability and I definitely think that it is something that Evan Rachel Wood would rock on a red carpet. No one does a suit on a red carpet quite like ERW.

No. 21: Every season I always find one look from No. 21 to feature on my lists. I love the brand. From the chic clothing it creates to amazing iconic accessories I just think that the brand exudes wearable glamour. I also feel like the brand is totally underrated when it comes to the red carpet. It has attracted the likes of Constance Wu, Dakota Fanning, Diane Kruger, and Jessica Chastain in the last year or so. I want to see stars snatch up looks from the Spring 2019 RTW collection including this sequin fringe ‘Anne’ dress features a sleeveless knit dress underneath an embellished outer layer with a fitted silhouette which I definitely think Amber Heard should snatch up for press appearances for Aquaman.

Roberto Cavalli: I was less than impressed with Paul Surridge’s debut as the Roberto Cavalli creative director a year ago. He just didn’t seem to have that same sense of sex and flash that is at the core of the Cavalli DNA, but considering some of the couture gowns he’s created for Olivia Wilde, Sara Sampaio, Joan Smalls, and Alessandra Ambrosio in addition to his Resort 2019 collection I think that he could have a place at the house, he just has a steep learning curve to live up to the likes of Mr. Cavalli himself and even former creative director Peter Dundas. I do believe that he did a better job of balancing his tailoring experience with the hyper sexuality of the Cavalli woman this season. I actually want to see several of the looks from this collection on the red carpet and I definitely think that Olivia Wilde would take this terracotta colored long sleeve midi dress which features a sheer long sleeve beaded bodice with a plunging neckline and a ruched a-line midi skirt and make it a really chic red carpet moment. Is it the sexy mini dresses that Surridge also presented in this collection? No, but I still think that it defines the Cavalli woman. Salvatore Ferragamo: Like the new Cavalli creative director I was less than enthused with Paul Andrew’s (the shoe designer whose eponymous line I LOVE) debut at Salvatore Ferragamo back in February, but now he has had a look on both my Best of Resort 2019 and my Best of Milan Fashion Week Spring 2019 lists. The collections have gotten stronger and stronger. There were several looks from his newest collection that I think are destined for casual events like press interviews and then gowns that are perfect for gala’s. I think that for one of the more edgier, “artistic” galas that Olivia Munn would rock this suede macramé dress layered over indocina silk slip dress features a sleeveless body with a straight, fitted silhouette and full length with fringe hem. It is edgy and glamorous and I definitely think with her inherent sex appeal that Olivia radiates on the red carpet would really ensure this look is perfection.

Sportmax: I don’t usually bother looking at Sportmax collection typically. The looks that the brand send down the runway aren’t typically what I feature here on If I Was A Stylist, but something told me to check out this seasons collection. I’m glad I did. The brand had more of a dazzling air to it this season compared to the more day to day sportswear vibe we typically see from the brand. I fell in love with this silver and blue ‘Ciriaco’ dress designed with slits on both sides, sequin detailing throughout, a haltered neckline, and a midi length hem the moment I saw it. Is it anything really innovative or boundary pushing when it comes to style? No, but it is just a fun dazzling party look that I think would be perfect for Tiffany Haddish.

Vionnet: Finishing out this list is the always beautiful Vionnet. The label established in 1912 and revitalized in 2009 has been one of the brands that I feel is very underrated. When it first relaunched it was a celeb favorite, but in recent years that love has waned. I want to see the brand, which has been working at becoming a leader in sustainable luxury, have a resurgence as a celebrity favorite. It isn’t one of the edgy boundary pushing labels that we typically see on the fashion week circuit, but I think that the glamorous draping is perfect for the red carpet. It has been a hot minute but Naomie Harris was a fan of Vionnet and I definitely think that she would be the perfect person to bring this beige and hot pink tulle draped gown which features a silver waistband, plunging v-neckline, and a sheer skirt to life on a red carpet.

So there you have it my 15 favorite looks that came down the Milan Fashion Week runways for Spring 2019 RTW. Which ones do you want to see on the red carpet and who do you want to see bring it to life?
