2021 SAG Awards Red Carpet Wish List Part 4

While the ceremony will be shorter this year, the Screen Actors Guild will still hand out its annual awards. The 2021 SAG Awards will air on Sunday, April 4, in a one-hour, pre-taped event, the show’s producers announced in early March. Hostless, and absent the normal banquet and red carpet, the shows producers have revealed that they still have a lot planned to honor the best actresses and actors of the year. I am very interested in seeing what the show will be and even more importantly what the fashion will be. With the abbreviated and pre-recorded show will the stars still turn out gowns and glamour? We will have to wait till Sunday night to find out. In the meantime let’s make a couple more wishes for what could be for this years show shall we? Despite all her nominations this season Cate Blanchett has skipped out on every single virtual awards show and I HATE it. I always love seeing Cate on the red carpet and I am missing her turning out looks. I’ve picked major looks from Alberta Ferretti, archive Armani Prive, and Lanvin and I am continuing that with the look I’ve picked as the must see moment for Cate to wear for the SAG Awards, even if I am doubtful that she will zoom into the ceremony. Cate has long been a fan of Givenchy and has worn looks from all of the brands creative directors. So I would love to see her try to sell me a look from Matthew Williams helm at the brand. I have been imagining Cate wearing this one shoulder white column gown which features a macrame detailed bodice and a tassel detail from the Givenchy Fall 2021 RTW collection. This collection is far from one I really love, but I feel like this gown modified to be lined for modesty (which I am sure will happen for retail) would be a super edgy glam moment for Cate. We usually love Cate more in her classic glam moments, but when she serves up edge I am in love with her looks. I obviously would ditch the coat and style this gown with a sleek updo, defined eyes, soft pink lips, a pair of white satin Aquazzura ‘Bow Tie’ crystal embellished pointed toe pumps, and statement aquamarine and emerald Chopard Red Carpet Collection 2020 drop earrings would make this a major fashion moment for Cate. Elle Fanning is nominated with her fellow The Great cast members for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series. After her super glam custom Gucci gown with Fred Leighton jewels at the Golden Globe Awards I am dying to see Elle give us a super glam moment for the SAG Awards. Now as she isn’t nominated individually or presenting I’m not sure that we will, but I definitely believe that if this were a normal year that Elle would have served up a MAJOR glam moment. I just fell in love with this white strapless beaded tea length cocktail dress from the Georges Hobeika Spring 2021 Couture collection which features sheer detail, 3D floral embroidery, and POCKETS. I feel like Elle with her classically glamorous sensibility would easily be able to sell this look to me. Cocktail dresses for the SAG Awards aren’t really a norm for me, but I think that with a sleek retro inspired updo, defined eyes, bold red lips, a pair of white Sergio Rossi ‘Sr1’ crystal studded square toe ankle strap sandals, and a dazzling white diamond Harry Winston teardrop and scroll detailed collar necklace would definitely elevate this look to the level of glamour needed for a major awards show red carpet. Gillian Anderson took home both a Golden Globe Award and a Critics Choice Award for her performance as Margaret Thatcher in The Crown. That same performance has earned her a nomination for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Drama Series at the 2021 SAG Awards. She is up against her co-star Emma Corrin and I would say that it will most likely be Emma that takes home the Actor. Now in terms of fashion Gillian has exclusively worn Dior Couture this awards season. While I don’t hate her looks I also would love to see her branch out. I know Gillian has some fashion chops and I would love to see her give cozy glamour wearing this petrol blue knit Loewe Spring 2021 RTW long sleeve gown which features multicolored sequined strewn about, a thigh high split, and a knotted sash belt. While a knit gown is not something we would expect to see for any major award shows and I totally understand, but in lockdown I love the idea. Why not take advantage of it now? To make this look SAG Awards perfect for Gillian I would style it with a loose romantic updo, defined eyes, light pink lips, a pair of petrol blue crystal embellished mesh Gianvito Rossi ‘Rania 105’ pointed toe pumps, and dazzling white diamond London collection by De Beers ‘Thames Path’ teardrop cluster earrings. There was a huge snub that the Golden Globes and the Critics Choice Awards didn’t nominate Michaela Coel for her performance in I May Destroy You. Well the SAG Awards rectified that and I am hoping that she will bring us a major look. I went through a lot of options when I was thinking about what I wanted to see Michaela wearing for the SAG Awards. Ultimately I decided to go with a customized version of this rose gold sequined Off White Resort 2021 asymmetrical slip style dress which features thin spaghetti straps and the brands name embroidered on the front. I would customize this into a floor length gown with a bit of a train to really make this a glamorous moment for the first time SAG Award nominee to wear for her first ceremony. I would style this custom gown with a short afro, defined eyes, ruby red lips, a pair of rose gold Sophia Webster ‘Rosalind’ three strap crystal heel metallic leather sandals, and simple yet dazzling 18k pink gold set Hueb ‘Luminus’ white diamond cluster earrings to really make it a MAJOR fashion moment for Michaela to bring to life on the “red carpet.” Phoebe Dynevor might have been the Diamond of Bridgerton and I tell you that had awards season happened like normal that she would have been the Diamond this season as well. She rocked an edgy glam Louis Vuitton cocktail dress from the Critics Choice Awards and for the SAG Awards where she is nominated with her cast for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series I would have love to see her bring something feminine and romantic to the red carpet. I have been thinking about Phoebe wearing this blush pink Chanel Spring 2021 Couture a-line tea length gown which features thin straps, defined waist, tiered skirt, and red and white dot embroidery all over. It is gorgeous and I know that Phoebe would bring the statuesque elegance to the red carpet. I would style it with a sleek updo, soft dewy makeup with light pink lips, red leather Christian Louboutin ‘Loubi Queen 100’ ankle strap sandals, and a selection of David Webb jewels including a pair of white diamond and ruby feather drop earrings and a matching ruby and white diamond cocktail ring to really make it scream glamour.

The 2021 SAG Awards special will broadcast on Sunday April 4, 2021. You can see all my wishes for this years show here.

2021 Golden Globe Awards Red Carpet Wish List Part 6

With every passing day I get a little more optimistic that the 2021 Golden Globe Awards will be absolutely fantastic. I really feel like even though nominees will join the show remotely that with presenters appearing live that this show will feel real and authentic. We are still very much in the midst of my nominees wishes for this years Golden Globe Awards. I don’t know what it was about 2020 but despite the fact that there felt like a lack of movies and even new television programs that this years red carpets could have been the strongest in years. The stars in today’s wishes include two who I don’t expect major things from but will continue to wish big, a red carpet princess, a dude who subtly pushes the boundaries, and a new Chanel girl who just might be the brands best ambassador yet. History has already been made at the 2021 Golden Globes just thanks to the nominees in the Best Director category. This year a record 3 women are nominated and two of them are women of color. Chloe Zhao is one of them. She has been lauded since the film made its debut in Venice where it won 3 awards including the Best Picture award. So I am definitely keeping my eyes on her as one to watch this awards season. As I was looking at her past red carpet appearances it seems like Chloe avoids black tie events and really just rocks very comfy and casual looks for photo lines. It makes sense she is more behind the scenes thank in front of the camera glam. But with a possible run to Oscar gold ahead of her I have some superb options in mind to push her through awards season this year starting with this color blocked gold, gunmetal, and bronze sequin Tom Ford Spring 2015 RTW long sleeve column gown. It is definitely going to push Chloe’s comfort zone, but I do think it would be a really cool and glamorous moment for the Golden Globe Awards red carpet. I wouldn’t push the boundaries with the styling keeping with her regular barely there makeup, wash and go hair, black satin Tom Ford ‘TF 105’ pointed toe pumps, and yellow gold ‘Cactus de Cartier’ drop earrings to make this a super chic and glamorous red carpet moment. I would say that this awards season has to be exactly what Frances McDormand dreams of. Even when she made the winning awards season run for Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri she never made an actual appearance on any of the red carpets including the Oscars. In fact the only red carpet I feel like she’s actually stopped to pose for in recent years is when she was a guest of Pierpaolo Piccioli’s at the 2018 Met Gala. I wouldn’t expect her to doll up if she is joining the broadcast from home, but hey I can dream right? For formal occasions she has exclusively worn Valentino, mostly customized RTW looks. So when I was starting to pick looks I went shopping on the virtual racks. I found this red Valentino ‘Le Rouge’ silk chiffon long sleeve dress with a flowing pleated a-line skirt. It is a very chic moment and I would believe that this look would definitely be something that Frances would be drawn to. Her short pixie style, no makeup, and a pair of red Valentino ‘Rockstud’ flat leather sandals would finish this look in true Frances McDormand style. After being surprisingly shut out at the Emmy Awards, save for a Directing and Writing nomination, The Great is getting some awards season love. Elle Fanning earned her first Golden Globe nomination for Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series – Musical or Comedy thanks to her role as Catherine the Great. Regular readers will know that I always LOVE to see Elle Fanning on a red carpet and I am praying that she will go all out for her first Globes nomination even if she does join the telecast remotely. I would love to see Elle give us princess glamour wearing this seafoam green Armani Prive Spring 2021 Couture strapless ballgown with pink and blue floral hand painted and beaded detail from neckline to hem. It was one of my favorite pieces from this collection and I would love to see this red carpet princess bring it to life on the red carpet. I would style this moment with a sleek romantic curl detail updo, defined eyes, bright pink lips, a pair of silver metallic leather Roger Vivier ‘RV Bouquet’ floral strass buckle pointed toe ankle strap pumps, and a selection of Chopard ‘Precious’ collection jewels including paisley white diamond wreath hoop earrings and a white diamond and pink diamond ring to make ooze glamour from head to toe. Nicholas Hoult is a man that can give very chic menswear moments. So I would absolutely love to see him give a superb moment at the Golden Globe Awards where he has also earned his first nomination. I would love to see Nicholas, who is nominated for Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series – Musical or Comedy, wearing this black Louis Vuitton Resort 2021 menswear tuxedo which features the signature LV monogram flowers embroidered on it. It is a chic moment with some extraordinary details and I think that it is a perfect moment for Nicholas to rock on this red carpet with the runway styling minus the cross body bag and swapping shoes for a pair of black patent leather Christian Louboutin ‘Alpha Male’ slip on oxfords.Last up today is an emerging star who is quickly becoming one of the best Chanel ambassadors. It was in the lead up to the Emmy’s we first saw Shira Haas wearing some Chanel looks for virtual appearances to promote Unorthodox. Then she was one of the few in a couture gown for the Emmy’s. All of these looks came courtesy of Chanel. So I have a hard time believing that she would be wearing anything other than Chanel for this years Golden Globe Awards. I was looking at the collections and thought that this sand tulle Chanel Spring 2021 Couture sleeveless gown with features a drop waist, slight v-neck, knotted top, and a beaded macrame bodice. It is chic and bohemian and honestly something that is more Maria Grazia’s Dior than Chanel, but I absolutely think it would be perfect for Shira to wear for the Golden Globes. A chic curly pixie, defined eyes, soft pink lips, a pair of champagne gold glitter Aquazzura ‘May’ strappy sandals, and Chanel Haute Joaillerie “Escale à Venise” asymmetrical 18k gold and white diamond camellia and leaf ear cuff and stud earrings would definitely make this look ooze youthful bohemian sophistication.

10 Best Collections of Spring 2021 – Lanvin

When Bruno Sialelli took over the helm of Lanvin last year I was less than impressed with his debut. I think part of this is due to the fact that I hadn’t been able to really love Lanvin since Alber Elbaz left in 2015. He did slowly start to pique my interest with this Spring 2020 RTW collection and I was definitely on board with his Fall 2020 RTW collection. Now I am full steam ahead in my love for the brand after seeing his Spring 2021 collection. In this collection I saw references to things learned from Sialelli’s past. Prior to taking the helm at Lanvin he had held senior positions at Paco Rabanne, Acne Studios, and Balenciaga under both Nicolas Ghesquière and Alexander Wang. We also saw a distinct not to Chinese style, which we can most likely attribute to the fact that Chinese conglomerate Fosun International. Part of this catering was forgoing the brands usual perch on the Paris Fashion Week circuit instead opting to show an in person presentation at the historic Yu Garden in Shanghai. “We can do a proper event there with hundreds of people,” Bruno Sialelli said to Vogue during a preview in Paris. “And to be very pragmatic, this is the market that is going to drive growth in luxury in general. It’s good for us to federate our community there.”The collection spanned eras of the Lanvin label starting with a series of Jeanne Lanvin’s robe de style. This is a drop-waist silhouette she loosely revived from the 19th century which features full hips. It moved through the 30’s and 40’s inspiration and then skipped the 50’s and right into the 60’s. It was an absolutely beautiful collection. From pieces that can be infused into the everyday, one of my favorites being a black cardigan emblazoned with a crystal embellished Trompe-l’œil bow across the chest. It was presented very formally with a robe de style inspired skirt. I could see someone purchasing this to wear with jeans for the everyday. Now there was no shortage of looks that are ready for the moment red carpets return to us. Find out eight of the looks I would like to see stars bring to life on red carpets, even virtually if we must. The first look in the collection, a black with a crystal bow across the hip—was virtually a replica of its 1920s original. “I like the idea of re-edition. But we’ve never seen this dress in real life, we’ve never tried it on. It belongs to the Galliera. I like to look at iconography and feel what it is and just do something out of it that’s modern,” Sialelli explained. It has been almost a century since the originals were first presented and sold. Now I feel like these new interpretations feel just as innovative and modern as they did back then. I feel like this is the kind of look I am craving to see from Natalie Portman. She used to wear quite a bit of Lanvin, even after she was under her Dior contract. Now this look would be made absolutely perfect for Natalie with a sleek low bun updo, defined eyes, bold matte red lips, a pair of black Christian Dior ‘Sweet-F’ floral motif embroidered tulle slingback pointed toe bow detailed pumps, and Nikos Koulis ‘Oui’ collection art deco inspired white gold pendant drop earrings with white diamonds and black enamel.

As I was watching the video from this collection I found myself saying oooooo that would be a great look for Fan Bingbing over and over again. The Chinese superstar is a true fashionista and I know that she would definitely be drawn to many of the looks that Bruno Sialelli sent down this runway. She knows how to deliver major “costume-y” moments on the red carpet, but in a way that doesn’t make me feel like she is attending a costume party. Many of the looks in this collection, especially the robe de style gowns, have the potential to be more costume like than modern. I would love to see Fan bring this look which features a quilted black a-line tea length skirt, a silver Trompe-l’œil beaded bow on the neckline, and a rose pink satin hip length opera coat to life. While the look does seem very stuck in days gone by the glamour is undeniable and if Fan knows how to deliver anything it is undeniable glamour. With a 40’s inspired Victory roll updo, winged defined cat eyes, bold deep red matte lips, a rose pink While the collection was opened with those very cut and dry historical re-issues there were also plenty of looks that ran the gambit of reference. I was drawn to the soft, feminine glamour of this blush pink chiffon draped wrap gown which features a floral print. The soft glamour isn’t as unapologetic as the robe de style looks, but I feel like for more of a laid back formal event that stars could be fighting for this gown. I immediately imagined it being worn by Evan Rachel Wood. Her gorgeous red hair styled in a loose romantic updo, soft bronze defined eyes, deep berry matte lips, a champagne gold Judith Leiber ‘Enchanted’ chain handle bag, a pair of nude Aquazzura ‘Vera’ silver crystal embellished strappy sandals, and Bulgari 18k gold set white diamond and ruby sunburst drop earrings would push this look over the ledge in terms of major glamour for Evan to bring to the red carpet.

The collection was also full of fantastic tailoring moments. I was drawn to the beige reinterpretation of the suit that included a double breasted oversized shawl lapel blazer which was styled with contrasting being button down with a sequined Trompe-l’œil beaded pussy bow, and high waisted shorts that was actually shown on a male model. I would definitely rock this look if I was headed to sit front row at a Lanvin show, but I also saw Julia Roberts immediately pop into my head when I saw this look. We saw this look in both the beige I am showing here, but also in black. I could see Julia wearing both, but I tire of seeing her in black looks so I definitely think that this beige look would be a great light moment for Julia. It could be dressed up with a romantic updo, soft bronze smokey eyes, antique rose pink matte lips, a nude marbled acrylic Edie Parker ‘Jean Solid’ clutch, a pair of tone on tone beige Aquazzura ‘Seine 105’ pointed toe pumps, and Mateo NY 14kt gold single pearl and white diamond drop earrings for more of a cocktail event or letting the hair down into loose waves, swapping for a nude glossy lip, and leaving the bag at home for a late night talk show appearance. Another great look that could be worn for more of casual or cocktail appearance is this gold silk pant set which features a chinoiserie inspired asymmetrical button down blouse with a chic metallic thread Koi fish embroidered paired with a v-banded wide leg pants. I could see Nicole Kidman rocking this look with sleek center parted hairstyle, defined eyes, rose pink lips, a pair of nude Aquazzura ‘Deneuve 105’ bow detailed pointed toe pumps, and a simple bit of sparkle via signed Fred Leighton contemporary floral cluster drop earrings with old mine cushion cut white diamonds.

I mentioned earlier that we saw a lot of reference to labels that Bruno Sialelli had previously worked at in this collection. One of the most evident was the red metal disc detailed looks reminiscent of the signature style from Paco Rabanne. They stood out like a sore thumb in the collection, but in a good way. While they didn’t exactly flow they were good looks. The gown (which you can see way above) to the skirt paired with a chic sweater it was a bold look I could see selling to some of the chicest women in the world. I thought about featuring the gown itself in these wishes, but given the more laid back times we live in I was really drawn to the skirt and sweater combination. I would LOVE to see Tessa Thompson, who has worn a couple looks from Lanvin by Sialelli since he’s taken the reigns, bring this look to life. It could be a great awards show from home look styled with a high long thick braid ponytail, thick defined eyes, matte nude lips, a pair of red crystal embellished Aquazzura ‘Tequila 105’ strappy sandals, and simple Anabela Chan ruby cushion wing stud earrings. There were so many fabulous looks in this collection I could have gone on and on in this review. Unfortunately I didn’t have the time to do so. I wanted to finish out by going back to the robe de style looks that opened the show once again. Out of any looks in the collection I feel these gowns have the most major red carpet potential. I just hope that while they are all similar that if, and when, one is worn that stars will wear other iterations. One that was different than the others was the steel grey and blush iteration which features a steel grey beaded lattice tank bodice with a plunging v-neckline and a blush tiered high low tea length a-line skirt. It paid homage to the originals from the 1920’s but felt very modern at the same time. Thinking about this major interpenetration on the red carpet the first person I would love to see it worn by is Kerry Washington. She knows how to deliver extreme glamour with an edge. To make this the major red carpet moment I would love to see Kerry style this look with a short pixie cut hairstyle, smokey eyes, deep red glossy lips, a pair of zinc silver Casadei ‘Blade Modern Love’ metallic laminated naplak leather and PVC detailed pointed toe strappy d’Orsay pumps, and a major selection of vintage jewels from Fred Leighton including old mine and old European cut white diamond antique drop earrings and a stack of signed old European cut white diamond and rose-cut white diamond bangles. It would be the perfect balance of dazzling glamour and edge.

My final wish is for the gorgeous Elle Fanning to wear the butter yellow tea length gown which features a halter neck on an illusion panel, drop waist, and beaded Trompe-l’œil  bow. I can definitely picture Elle delivering this gown as the soft princess moment that it most definitely is. She knows how to handle these soft princess moments with regal ease. A sleek high big bun updo, thick defined eyes, bright pink lips, soft matching yellow Alevi ankle tie knotted sandals, and a selection of simple yet dazzling Tiffany & Co. jewels including white and yellow cushion cut drop earrings, a selection of white and yellow diamond bangle bracelets, a vintage white and yellow diamond flower ring, and a Schlumberger ‘Daisy’ white diamond and yellow band ring would all make this a major moment for Elle.

50 of the Most ICONIC Red Carpet Looks EVER Part 10

Today we finish with my 50 of the Most ICONIC Red Carpet Looks EVER list. I did my research. The looks in this list are all based on looks that stars wore on red carpets all over the world. Now while some might think of Audrey Hepburn, Marilyn Monroe, Grace Kelly, Katherine Hepburn, Rita Hayworth, and Twiggy when they think of iconic fashion moments. That is true, but you won’t find any of them on these lists. If you’re ready to ask me why I have an answer. Mostly their iconic fashion moments all were created for them by the costume designers contracted by the studios they worked for. I wanted to include only the looks that weren’t planned in conjunction with the studio for their impact. They might have been pulled together by high paid stylist, but not in a way that a studio would craft a look for their star based on the image they wanted them to have. Now this look is only ranked from the oldest to the newest and not based on how iconic I think that the look is. So let’s get into it.46) Nicole Kidman in Calvin Klein by Appointment at the 2017 Cannes Film Festival: Between 2007 and 2017 Nicole Kidman feel out of love with fashion and then started to fall back in love with it. I fell in love with it too seeing it was look number 4 on my Best Dressed of 2017 list. I feel like this black and white Calvin Klein by Appointment bondage meets ballerina tea length tutu was the culmination of her falling back in love with fashion. This look took inspiration of Rudi Gernreich’s 1964 ‘Topless Swimsuit’ with a major ballerina skirt. In the CK by Appointment ad campaign this Raf Simons design was even show bare chested. For Nicole he of course modified the design to have the bustier bodice. It was a super enchanting moment for me. Modern yet classic glamour all rolled into one look. 47) Elle Fanning in Valentino Couture at the 2018 Berlin Film Festival: 2018 was a major year for fashion and the first major look of the year came when Elle Fanning attended the Opening Ceremony of the Berlin International Film Festival giving us 60’s glamour wearing this bold Valentino Couture ensemble. It is still my favorite Elle Fanning red carpet moment ever and one of the best Valentino by Pierpaolo Piccioli looks ever delivered on the red carpet. I never would have expected Elle to wear a look like this. When I saw the look on the runway I honestly would have expected it to overwhelm Elle’s frame, but she wore it with effortless elegance. 48) Lady Gaga in Valentino Couture at the 2018 Venice Film Festival: Each time I’ve featured Lady Gaga in this list it has corresponded with a new wave in her career. Her third and final look featured on this list comes from the frothy pink feathered Valentino Couture gown that she wore for the Venice Film Festival premiere of A Star Is Born. I SCREAMED when I saw this look. I loved this gown on the runway, but really felt like it was destined just to be an editorial look. So when Gaga showed up giving us full movie star drama wearing this gown in Venice I my heart skipped several beats. As I said earlier 2018 was a really strong year fashion wise but ultimately Lady Gaga in this gown topped my Best Dressed of the Year list, but honestly all of the first 4 looks could have easily tied for first it was so hard to cut down the list and rank everything. I will always rank this among Lady Gaga’s best red carpet moments ever. 49) Billy Porter in Christian Siriano at the 2019 Academy Awards: The 2019 Oscars red carpet was kind of a let down. I was overall disappointed in all the nominees and presenters. Billy Porter though, who was there to host the red carpet for ABC, served us up a MAJOR fashion moment wearing a custom Christian Siriano tuxedo meets ballgown. It was a major moment for queer fashion on the red carpet. This is the ONLY men’s look I’m adding to this list because of how ground breaking it was. I feel like everything about this look screams ICONIC. While I don’t think it shattered boundaries for men on the red carpet I do think it put some major cracks in what we expect to see men wear on the red carpet. 50) Elle Fanning in Christian Dior Couture at the 2019 Cannes Film Festival: The final look on the list is this major Elle Fanning moment in Cannes. In 2019 as she was making her rounds at the festival as a member of the jury she stepped out for one of the premieres wearing this major Christian Dior Couture by Maria Grazia Chiuri look. This is a new take on the iconic Christian Dior “New Look.” It was amazing tribute that felt very glamorous without feeling costume-y. It was an unexpected yet elegant moment which is a lot more casual than what I would have expected from Elle, but  that is part of what made it amazing. The custom Steven Jones hat really made this look. It wouldn’t have been the same without it.

So there you have it my full list of the 50 of the Most ICONIC Red Carpet Looks EVER. Who are you surprised to see included? Who do you think should have made the cut? What do you think didn’t quite live up to iconic status?

2020 Cannes Film Festival What Could Have Been Wish List: “Shake Your Cares Away”

In a submission from Israel Tom Shoval’s second film Shake Your Cares Away, starring Berenice Bejo as a woman who decides to convert her luxury home into a refuge for the needy following the death of her multimillionaire husband, was also vying for a Cannes splash according to Screen Daily. Berenice Bejo is a fixture in Cannes and this is the second of three films that she was rumored to have in consideration for selection for this years festival. I do love her fun take on effortless French glamour on the red carpet, and I would have loved seeing her on the Cannes red carpets this year. To promote Shake Your Cares Away I picked two superb couture moments for Berenice to bring to life. For the photocall I went into the Alexis Mabille archives. In the past Berenice has worn Alexis Mabille with great aplomb so picking this ruby and lipstick red ensemble from his Fall 2014 Couture collection which features a lipstick red lace blouse with a split cape sleeve and ruby red high waisted wide leg pants trimmed in lipstick red silk ribbon on the waist, down the side, and on the cuff was an way choice for me. This has always been a look I’ve wanted to see on the red carpet and I think that Berenice has the effortless vibe to really make it work for a Cannes Film Festival photocall. The look oozes effortless meets high French elegance and I know that Berenice would bring it to life perfectly with a loose wavy bob, defined eyes, ruby red lips, a pair of bespoke deep red suede Paul Andrew crocodile leather cap pointed toe pumps, and Chopard ‘Happy Hearts’ red stone and white diamond dome stud earrings. For the premiere I went to Schiaparelli which is another of my favorite French couture houses. I LOVE this nude silk one shoulder column gown from the Schiaparelli Spring 2020 Couture collection which features a structured draped wave detail on the shoulder. I love it so much this is the third iteration of it I have wanted to see. The first was as presented for Cate Blanchett, the second was custom made in shocking pink for Adut Akech, and for Berenice I want to see this gown custom made in champagne gold lamé. I think this gown in that custom metallic gold would be that super regal moment I am always craving to see Berenice bring to life on the red carpet. With the gown being such a statement all on its own I would keep the styling sleek and complimentary with a sleek side parted low bun updo, thick defined eyes, ruby red lips, a gold beaded Corto Moltedo ‘Susan C Star Golden Eye’ clutch for some texture, a pair of iridescent champagne gold crystal embellished Rene Caovilla strappy sandals, and Chopard Green Carpet Collection ‘Palme Verte’ 18k fairmined gold wreath earrings. I think that the red carpet moments I feel most deprived of because of the Cannes Corona Cancellation are from Elle Fanning. The actress and L’Oreal Paris spokesmodel always delivers her best fashion moments on a film festival red carpet and Cannes holds many of her personal best moments. I went left of all the expected labels for both of the gowns I wanted to see Elle wear in Cannes this year. First it was the Azzi & Osta gown, and now it’s this major yellow gold and pink lamé Georges Hobeika Spring 2020 Couture off the shoulder ball gown which features a dramatic cape and a pleated skirt. I definitely think that this is the regal princess moment that Elle knows how to deliver with effortless ease on the red carpet and would undoubtedly been on my Best of Cannes list. A sleek retro updo, defined eyes, pink lips to match the flowers in the print, a pair of gold to silver ombre glitter Jimmy Choo ‘Romy’ pointed toe pumps, and dazzling Chopard “Temptations” collection earrings set with 2 pear shaped kunzites, white diamonds, amethysts, paraiba tourmalines, rubies, tsavorites, and pastel pink sapphires would have all made this look modern princess glam from head to toe. When I think about regal elegance in Cannes Chinese actress Gong Li definitely pops into my mind. She has delivered several super elegant moments on the festivals red carpets over the years as a spokesmodel for L’Oreal Paris. I wanted her to deliver another major regal elegant moment on the red carpet at the Palais de Festivals again this year with this black velvet Ralph & Russo Spring 2018 Couture column gown embellished with metallic gold and smoked topaz stones which features an asymmetric sleeve edged in metallic chain tassels and complimented by Swarovski spheres. I am shocked that someone like Angelina Jolie hasn’t snatched this gown up to promote any of her film projects since it came down the runway almost two and a half years ago, but it has left someone with a major moment just waiting to happen. Gong Li has the elegance to really make this nior glam moment come to life on the Cannes Film Festival red carpet styled with a sleek side parted retro updo, thick winged eyes, bold fire engine red matte lips, a pair of black mesh Tom Ford leather trimmed pointed toe slingback pumps with a gold heel, and a pair of vintage Chopard 18k yellow gold, white diamond, and citrine chandelier earrings.

2020 Cannes Film Festival What Could Have Been Wish List: “On A Half Clear Morning”

You can now say that my “What Could Have Been” wishes are predicting films that might be in the 2020 Cannes Film Festival Official Selection. The festival may not be happening, but next month the organizers plan to release the Official Selection showcasing what they are planning to screen at this years festival had it not been cancelled due to the ongoing COVID-19 crisis. That being said let’s jump in to today’s film predication. While Cannes isn’t necessarily just for French cinema Thierry Fremeaux, the director of the Cannes Film Festival, definitely has a soft spot for movies made by French orators. This shouldn’t surprise anyone. As I was looking at films rumored to be submitted for this years festival there were a host of French films included. Bruno Dumont’s On A Half Clear Morning, starring Lea Seydoux as a celebrity journalist trying to escape fame was on the list. Both Bruno and Lea are Cannes regulars so I would definitely would have expected this film to make the cut. Lea Seydoux has delivered many major moments on the Cannes Film Festival red carpet over the years. I am super sad that her run as a jury member came while she has been under contract at Louis Vuitton because she has always delivered the best variety of effortless French glamour. I decided to pick one look for Lea under her Louis Vuitton contract as well as one that I just know she would own. I kept Louis Vuitton on the menu for her photocall appearance with this bold rich pink Louis Vuitton Pre-Fall 2020 bell sleeve jersey midi dress which features a mock neck, ruched detail on the bodice, and a wide deep purple obi inspired belt. The look is flirty and sophisticated and I think that Lea would make it effortless styled with a sleek side parted casual updo, defined eyes, soft pink lips, a pair of rose pink satin Louis Vuitton ‘Madeline’ crystal embellished logo brooch detailed pointed toe pumps, and Chopard ‘Imperiale’ white gold set amethyst drop earrings. For the premiere I turned to Alexis Mabille whom I personally think is a very underrated couturier. Cannes is ones of the few times of the year where we are likely to see Alexis Mabille designs on the red carpet, and given the fact that Lea has worn the designers creations a couple of times in the past I thought it was perfect to pick a major look from the designer for her to wear on the red carpet at the Palais de Festivals. I have been obsessed with this purple column gown with asymmetric ruffled neckline and a crystal embellished diadem belt since it first walked the runway at the Alexis Mabille Spring 2017 Couture presentation. It deserves a major red carpet moment and I feel like Lea would definitely be able to work this look in that effortlessly French manner. I think keeping the look glamorous with a sleek updo, smokey eyes, bold pink lips, a pair of black and silver Louis Vuitton ‘Urban Twist’ mesh net pointed cap toe pumps, and a selection of major Chopard Red Carpet Collection jewels including paraiba tourmaline and amethyst paisley teardrop earrings and a statement white diamond floral cuff bracelet would ensure that Lea would have had a MAJOR Cannes Film Festival red carpet moment on her hands. Deepika Padukone has great style. If my Best Dressed of the Year list were going out today I would have included an Alex Perry gown she wore earlier this year. But, when it comes to her looks in Cannes, aside from the hot pink Ashi Studio gown in 2018, I haven’t been a huge fan. I was hoping that this year that Deepika was going to WOW on the red carpets at the Palais de Festivals. Aside from the major glam traditional sari from Manish Malhotra I picked for Deepika I wanted a major western moment as well. So I went for COLOR via this marigold Givenchy Spring 2020 Couture one shoulder gown which features a loose fit, asymmetrical ruffled one shoulder neckline, an asymmetrical pleated hem, and a sweeping train. The color of this gown is everything. It isn’t a color we see very often so when we do I always get excited and I think it would be amazing on Deepika. Make this look even more major with a glamorous yet sleek curly bun updo, smokey eyes, deep red L’Oreal Paris Rouge Signature Matte Lip Stain in ‘Fascinate’, gold Giuseppe Zanotti ‘Harmony’ three strap sandals, and another pop of color via a pair of statement Lorraine Schwartz carved pink ruby, orange faceted sapphire, and faceted pink sapphire drop earrings. Elle Fanning always delivers on the Cannes Film Festival red carpets. It was in Cannes that I finally fell in love with her sartorial decisions. She had one of the best Cannes jury runs fashion wise last year giving many major moments from labels like Gucci, Dior, and Vivienne Westwood. We were expecting to see her back in Cannes again this year fulfilling her duties as a brand ambassador for L’Oreal Paris and I had high expectations for what she was going to deliver on the red carpet. I went for fun, flirty, femininity with my first wish for Elle picking this Azzi & Osta Spring 2020 Couture gown which strapless embroidered bustier bodice, a pink champagne taffeta high low bubble skirt, a bow detail on the back, and a sweeping train. It isn’t an obvious choice since Elle is usually seen in those top tier labels that I mentioned earlier, but I just know that this gown would be absolute magic on the red carpet. A side parted curled sleek retro updo, defined eyes lined in metallic rose gold, light pink glossy lips done in L’Oreal Paris Infallible 8 HR Gloss in the color ‘Blush’, a pair of blush pink satin Aquazzura ‘Chain Reaction’ crystal strap buckle detail pointed toe mules, and a dazzling white diamond Chopard Red Carpet Collection three row scalloped lace necklace with a statement teardrop diamond would ensure that Elle delivers her signature princess glamour with ease to head to toe.

2020 Met Gala Red Carpet Wish List Part 37

Often referred to as the Oscars of the fashion world or the Super Bowl of fashion, the Met Gala, now entering its 72nd year, has become one of the most wonderful (and Instagrammable) events on the fashion calendar. The annual event was established in 1948 by fashion publicist Eleanor Lambert as a fundraiser for the museum’s newly founded Costume Institute, and to mark the opening of its annual blockbuster exhibition. The strictly invite-only affair is an opportunity for famous faces (and the designers who dress them) to go all-out on the red carpet with the designated theme. As you might know by now the theme this years is “About Time: Fashion and Duration.” We do not know when the Met Gala may happen, the museum is currently looking at opening the exhibition in October, but I decided to dedicate these wishes to the idea of fantasy and having some fun escapism during these crazy times. I hope that over the last 36 days that you as a reader have enjoyed escaping with me. After today I just have three more sets of wishes for the Met Gala red carpet, but then I plan to dedicate May to an idea of what could have happened if the Cannes Film Festival was still happening, so please keep coming back and escaping with me daily.Last year Oscar de la Renta dressed three stars for the Met Gala red carpet. Regina King (after dressing her for her Oscar win), supermodel Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, and Celine Dion. I followed that same pattern of a musician, a model, and an actress with my wishes for this years wishes. We’ve already seen my wishes for Jennifer Lopez and Lily Aldridge, so lets get into my third (and final) Oscar de la Renta wish for the beautiful Dakota Fanning. I always want to love what Dakota is wearing on the red carpet, but often time I am one step from that. I want everything to fall into place for Dakota on this years Met Gala red carpet, if she attends, wearing this super glamorous red silk satin strapless Oscar de la Renta Fall 2020 RTW gown which features a fitted bodice, drop waist, and an asymmetric high low bubble hem. This glamorous moment reminds me of a modern Audrey Hepburn moment which is exactly what I think this red carpet needs. Now the styling for this look is integral to make sure it delivers nothing but glamour from head to toe so I would love to see Dakota style this gown with a sleek retro updo, defined eyes, pink lips, a pair of red crystal embellished Jimmy Choo ‘Romy’ pointed toe pumps, and a simple yet glamorous vintage white diamond and ruby Bulgari tennis necklace. Elle Fanning always looks super glamorous on the Met Gala red carpet, except for last year where she wore a Miu Miu 60’s inspired fun pants ensemble before she jetted off to be a juror at the Cannes Film Festival where she brought the glamour. Well this year I went back to her princess vibes again, but honoring the theme perfectly by digging into the Givenchy archives and finding this gorgeous pink and lavender floral embroidered strapless ball gown from the Givenchy by Alexander McQueen Spring 1998 Couture collection. I wasn’t even looking at Givenchy archives for this red carpet because I don’t think that LVMH would open them for stars to pull out of for the red carpet, but if they did then this moment would easily be one of the best red carpet moments Elle has ever had. A sleek retro glam updo, defined eyes, bold pink lips, a pair of champagne gold glitter Sophia Webster ‘Coco’ crystal heel pointed toe pumps, and dazzling opal Chopard Green Carpet collection drop earrings originally worn by Cate Blanchett at the 2014 Academy Awards would definitely make sure that this look delivers princess glamour on the Met Gala red carpet perfectly. Creating couple wishes for the red carpet is always interesting. In my Met Gala wishes so far I have picked looks for six couples. Those wishes ran the gambit. Some were matching patterns. Some were matching looks from the same designer, and complimentary looks from different designers. My final couples wishes is for the always glamorous and complimentary Chrissy Teigan & John Legend. These two know good fashion and always are super glam when they step out on the red carpet either together or solo. I wanted to make sure that the looks I’ve picked for each of them holds attention on its own, but then comes together as a superb complementary moment. For Chrissy I went for a MAJOR color moment from an unexpected designer. We have only seen Georges Chakra on the Met Gala twice in the past. The first time was Rihanna’s Met Gala debut in 2007 and the second was on Katherine McPhee in 2018. The Lebanese couturier’s collections can have a big taste level issue, but he definitely has hero gowns. The hero gown from the Georges Chakra Spring 2020 Couture collection was this florescent pink asymmetrical off the shoulder tuck draped ball gown with a sexy split. The gown gives me Charles James meets Marie Antoinette meets 1980’s drama and definitely needs someone with presence to bring this look to life on the red carpet. I think Chrissy has the fun presence to really bring this look to life on the red carpet. The gown itself is such a statement on it’s own that the styling really needs to compliment and not fight the gown. So I would add a sleek side parted beehive style updo, smokey eyes, dark rose pink lips, a florescent pink crystal embellished Judith Leiber Couture ‘Smooth Rectangle’ clutch, hot pink Jimmy Choo ‘Katie’ crystal embellished strappy bow detailed ankle strap sandals, and a pair of dazzling white diamond Gismondi 1754 ‘Cascata’ delicate chandelier earrings to make this look perfection from head to toe. Now I picked Chrissy’s gown to compliment this MAJOR menswear moment for John Legend. I knew I wanted to incorporate this dazzling Versace Fall 2020 Menswear tuxedo which features a Swarovski crystal zebra print. The look is an edgy yet glamorous twist on the classic tuxedo and I feel like if tailored perfectly that it would be perfect for John. Now while People’s Sexiest Man Alive might want to wear the tuxedo shirtless like it was presented on the runway I would much rather him go classic with a white tuxedo button down, a black bow tie, and a pair of black Christian Louboutin ‘Alpha Male’ glittered oxford style loafers to bring this look together perfectly. It would definitely make for a major couples moment on the Met Gala red carpet. Saint Laurent usually has a whole bevy of beauties on the red carpet at the Met Gala. Last year’s YSL crew included Rami Malek, Zoe Kravitz, Shawn Mendes, Amber Valletta, Demi Moore, Liam Hemsworth, Miley Cyrus, Charlotte Casiraghi, Charlotte Gainsbourg, and Anja Rubik. Literally everyone from models to movie stars to royalty. I’ve already picked three other Saint Laurent looks for this year’s Met Gala red carpet for Dakota Johnson, Miley Cyrus, and Zoe Kravitz. My final wish for the label to bring to this years Met Gala is the incomparable Laura Dern. I have to say I was super disappointed in all her looks this awards season as she won over and over again for her performance in Marriage Story. I think that seeing Laura on this red carpet wearing a custom gown version of this red latex Saint Laurent Fall 2020 RTW long sleeve wrap style dress which features a plunging neckline and a bunched detail on the hip. I saw this gown come down the runway I immediately thought of Laura. It is classic moment done in a fashion forward manner and I believe that is exactly what Laura needs to once again be a style star in my good graces. A sleek updo, defined eyes, red lips, a pair of red metallic leather ankle strap Saint Laurent ‘Reflective Finish’ sandals, and a dazzling vintage art deco white diamond and ruby Cartier necklace would all make this look the perfect balance of classic and modern glamour. Solange Knowles 2018 Met Gala dress made my Iris Van Herpen is one of the 160 looks that will be featured in this years exhibition. So I knew I had to feature her in my wishes. Solange has always been a favorite of mine to see on the red carpet. She knows how to push the boundaries. She brings perfect meshing of edge, bohemian, and glamour when she steps out. I was thinking about this black leather Ellery asymmetrical high low dress from the brands Fall 2020 RTW collection and it just made sense for this years red carpet. It is that perfect balance of a classic glamour moment modern edge. I was trying to think of the perfect person to bring this look to life on this years red carpet and having the hardest time, but when I saw Solange’s gown on the banner for the exhibition I knew it was the perfect match. I would go full edgy, bohemian glam with this look for Solange with a natural curly updo, smokey eyes, bold matte red lips, black satin opera gloves, a pair of black Midnight 00 draped strap satin pointed toe pumps, and statement metallic blue painted titanium Emmanuel Tarpin aquamarine and white diamond detailed orchid leaf earrings to make this look absolutely major from head toe toe.

Milan Fashion Week Fall 2020 RTW Red Carpet Wish List

As they say fashion week stops for nothing. Well this season the Coronavirus tried to shut down the bi-annual Milan Fashion Week, and only partially succeeded. While the theaters on the final day of Milan Fashion Week might have been devoid of the usual guests of editors, buyers, celebrities, and influencers the shows still went on with those aforementioned people watching the collections come down the runway via a livestream from their hotel rooms. Overall I feel like while in shear number I was disappointed in the offerings that came out of Milan, but overall the quality of moment far exceeded both New York and London. In my wishes below you will find some absolutely major wishes for which I am now sending major positive energy out into the universe to manifest the red carpet moments and keep be excited about fashion. After loosing inspiration towards the end of last year and a mostly lackluster and rushed awards season the looks below give me hope that this year will have major glamour moments in store for us.

New York Fashion Week Fall 2020 RTW Red Carpet Wish List Part 2

New York Fashion Week happened later than normal. We got to see some previews of the collections on the SAG Awards, Grammy Awards, and Oscars red carpets. I was honestly really surprised by just how strong the collections shown during New York Fashion Week. These runways make me really excited for the red carpets over the next several months. The glamorous looks that span looks perfect for everything from the sidewalk to the red carpet. We will see many of the looks from these collections on the red carpet and below are just 55 early predictions of who I would love to see bring some of my favorite looks to walk the New York Fashion Week runways to life on the red carpet.

2020 Oscar Parties Red Carpet Wish List Part 3

Today I close out my Oscar parties wishes. The only thing that stands between you and my wishes for the actual Oscars ceremony red carpet now are my wishes for the Film Independent Spirit Awards which will be posted tomorrow. We are now less than a week to Oscar night. Unfortunately I will be on a work trip and unable to engage in the red carpet as much as I want to this year, but I am hoping that while I am working a trade show that stars are delivering superb Best Dressed of the Year worthy moments on the red carpet. I haven’t seen any yet this awards season, but I am holding out hope after the BAFTA red carpet last night shunned the “re-wear” and “sustainable” plea from the organization and delivered some of the best red carpet looks of the season. I am praying that this will continue through the week and end with a slew of knockout moments on Oscar night. I have high expectations, but trying to manage them so I can be blown away. Some of the wishes below are exactly that wishful thinking, but some of these (even the more realistic ones) could be a personal best for the ladies walking Oscar night red carpets.

Oscar Night 2020 is Sunday February 9, 2020.
