2021 Grammy Awards Red Carpet Wish List Part 6

As we get closer to the actual date of the Grammy’s my wishes are going to get a little more fantastical. While I am still incorporating picks for performers and nominees, some of my wishes are for people we would normally have seen on a Grammy’s red carpet. There are all sorts of great events happening before and after this years show which tell me that there would have been some great moments from those stars as they usually make appearances at those events and then at the Grammy’s themselves. So I am disappointed we are loosing out on some of those moments, but I am getting more and more excited for the future. Red carpets are sure to start returning in full force by the end of this year and I am very excited.Andra Day is one of those stars. She is attending one of those satellite events and with her major awards season run (so far in Chanel Couture and custom Prada) on the road to the Oscars I would definitely expect that we would have seen her at the Grammy’s. For her last two Grammy’s shes referenced bold retro inspired glam, but for this years show I would have gone for more 40’s femme fatale glamour with this deep pool blue velvet Ralph & Russo Fall 2018 Couture strapless column gown which features soft draping, a bustier bodice, intricate crystal snake embroidery, and a daring hip high spit. I love the super sexy Rita Hayworth vibe of this gown and I feel like Andra would be able to sell this gown to us easily. So I would have loved to see her wearing this gown with a sleek retro inspired updo, defined eyes, matte burgundy lips, a pair of gold Casadei rock crystal studded ankle strap sandals, and a statement 18k gold David Webb chain-link collar necklace with brilliant-cut white diamonds and black enamel. Billy Porter will be appearing in a Grammy special about the music connected to social movements in the weeks after the show. Knowing that I would have expected to see the fashionista on the red carpet. He always serves up major fashion moments and I’ve been dying to see Billy wear this lime green Palomo Spain Spring 2021 ensemble which features a floor length duster coat (with a robins egg blue lining) with matching trousers and a white shirt since it was first presented. I was going to use it for a “premiere” of a movie he will be staring in, but that movie release got pushed. So I was thrilled that I still got to put this wish into the universe. I would love to see this major fashion moment styled perfectly with a pair of gold Saint Laurent ‘Candy’ platform boots and a vintage Veruda ‘Nosegay’ peridot, white and yellow diamond brooch set in 18k gold and platinum. Cardi B will be performing on this years show Sunday night so I know she will be serving LOOKS. Her last two Grammy’s have both been in Mugler, both vintage and custom. I wanted a major moment this year and I found it in this black and silver Elie Saab Spring 2021 Couture one shoulder gown which features sequined “feather” 3D details on the bodice, a single sleeve, sheer construction, crystal embellished waist, and an a-line skirt. I have been all over this collection in my Grammy wishes picking looks for H.E.R. and Ariana Grande as well. Crazy thing is that while all three looks are coming from the same collection they all feel very different at the same time. I would absolutely love to see Cardi take this sexy yet glam moment and style it with a sleek updo, smokey winged eyes, bold red lips, a pair of black leather Christian Louboutin ‘Round Chick Alta 150 Black Kid’ scalloped edge peep toe ankle strap d’orsay platform pumps, and a selection of Amwaj jewels including white diamond waterfall chandelier earrings and a matching white diamond cocktail ring to really make this look come to life. John Legend has two Grammy nominations this year and that would definitely have meant we would have seen him and wife Chrissy Teigan on the Grammy’s red carpet this year. I am hoping that this social media savvy duo will still do some super chic fashion moments for the ‘gram. I picked two super dazzling and glam complimentary moments for the pair starting with a steel blue and silver floral jacquard metallic Tom Ford Fall 2021 Menswear tuxedo blazer styled with black trousers. Now the jacket is a favorite of mine from the Fall 2021 menswear collections and I feel like John would look phenomenal in it, but I would style it with a classic white tuxedo shirt, black tuxedo studs, a black bow tie, and a pair of black patent leather Jimmy Choo ‘Foxley/m’ tassel detailed loafers. Now for Chrissy I went with a shining moment with this metallic gunmetal grey pleated chiffon Georges Chakra Fall 2020 Couture strapless gown which features intricate ruffle details, a beaded waist, an a-line skirt, and a thigh high split. Chrissy always knows how to deliver high glam moments on the red carpet and this look would definitely make this a major moment on the red carpet. A sleek updo, defined eyes, dark mauve lips, a grey crystal embellished Jimmy Choo ‘Cloud’ clutch, a pair of metallic gunmetal grey Stuart Weitzman ‘Oracle 100’ crystal ball detailed ankle strap sandals, and statement arabesque inspired Karen Suen white diamond chandelier earrings would add the perfect finishing touches to this look. A winning duo for a fabulous couple. Best Country Song nominee Maren Morris will be performing with John Mayer at this Sunday’s show. I always find something to fault Maren with. I want to love her, but her style just is tacky and dated and very try to hard. I actually can’t believe I went here, but I picked two looks from D***e & G*****a Secrets & Diamonds collection. She wore D***e for the CMA Awards and it was one of her better looks. I just feel like if anyone could make me like a D***e moment now it would be Maren. For the “red carpet” I would love to see her wearing this black tiered gown with thick straps, intricate crystal embroidery, and a bustier bodice. It is all about glamour from head to toe and would be perfect with sleek old Hollywood waves over one shoulder, defined eyes, bold red lips, black suede Amina Muaddi ‘Vita’ strappy platform sandals, and a selection of Dena Kemp jewels including black and white diamond drop earrings and a matching link cocktail ring. For the performance I went with more dazzle for Maren picking this silver crystal fringe mini dress which I can see being a super modern flapper moment. Keeping the same beauty adding a soft waves, a pair of silver Aquazzura ‘Temptation’ crystal trimmed PVC peep toe slingback sandals, and more Dena Kemp jewels including white diamond fan cluster earrings, a three flower stud white diamond two finger ring, and a five row white diamond cocktail ring would make this look sparkle and shine in the best way possible on our television screens.

The 2021 Grammy Awards, hosted by Trevor Noah, will air live on CBS Sunday March 14, 2021. You can see all of my wishes for this years red carpet here.

2021 Critics Choice Awards Red Carpet Wish List Part 7

Check out all these looks I would have loved to see on a red carpet at a regular Critics Choice Awards. The wishes below are a mix of nominees, presenters, and members of productions that are nominated. I am missing all the glamour and drama of awards season, but I am hoping that there are going to be some major fashion moments tonight.

The 2021 Critics Choice Awards will take place on Sunday March 7, 2021. You can find all of my wishes for this red carpet here.

2021 Golden Globe Awards Red Carpet Wish List Part 1

Well. We are finally coming up to the kick off of awards season 2021. By this time last year we had already been through the entire awards season. Due to COVID-19 all of the award shows pushed back their dates and extended their eligibility window and have just started announcing nominees. The 2021 Golden Globe Awards will take place on Sunday February 28th, which was the original date for the 2021 Academy Awards. This years ceremony will be hosted once again by comedy duo Amy Poehler and Tina Fey, but it’s going to look a little bit different than years past. As this years event is “distanced” we are going to see Amy & Tina hosting this years show from two sides of the country. Amy will be broadcasting from the ballroom inside the Globes usual event space at the Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles, while Tina will be broadcasting from the Rainbow Room in New York City. I want to see the hostesses giving us glamour all night long with a couple of wardrobe changes. Today’s wishes are focusing specifically what I want to see Amy Poehler wear while hosting this years Golden Globe Awards. Originally I was going to go with looks from the same designer. In her three back to back years hosting the Globes with Tina Fey from 2013-2015 Amy hosted wearing all Stella McCartney looks. So will she return the the label for her looks this year? Well the odds would be yes, but I have 4 major looks from 4 different designers. First up is what would be my “red carpet” look. Since it seems as though we won’t have an actual red carpet this year I don’t know if we will see Amy go for something this dramatic, but I would love to see her wearing this electric blue to black Georges Hobeika Fall 2019 Couture gown which features a halter neck, cape sleeves, defined waist, and feather detailing. I don’t know why I kept seeing Amy every time I saw this dress as I was trying to decide how I was going to do these wishes, but I did. It is out of her comfort zone, but I really love the idea of her giving us bold color and drama instead of her usual simplistic looks. A sleek side parted updo, defined eyes, red lips, black patent leather Jimmy Choo ‘Nova’ peep toe slingback pumps, and a pair of Kwiat ‘Ashoka’ white diamond drop earrings with sapphire halos would make it a super chic and glamours moment. Now as a host I would like to see Amy rock a couple of looks. You are going to see that for some reason I was on a cape kick when it came to looks I wanted to see Amy wear for the Globes. Following that major Chakra for the “red carpet” I would love to see Amy give us classic glamour wearing this black Lela Rose Fall 2021 RTW a-line gown with a white cape. It is a super glam moment and I definitely feel like it would be in line with Amy’s sense of style. While I do advocate for her pushing her boundaries I also believe that not every look needs to be innovative. I would keep the same beauty glam from the red carpet look styling this gown with a pair of black Jimmy Choo ‘Emsy 85’ strappy peep toe sandals, and platinum set Kwiat ‘Legacy Embrace’ white diamond pear shaped drop earrings to really make this an uber chic moment for Amy.

The next look I want to see Amy wear for her hosting gig is this Jenny Packham Spring 2021 jumpsuit with black sequin and bold beaded embellishments. We’ve seen Amy opt for cocktail looks and suits for hosting the Globes in the past so I wouldn’t put it past her to rock a jumpsuit like this for the show this year. I love a chic Jenny Packham moment and I would love to see Amy bring this look out of the pages of the lookbook and to life on the red carpet. A loose updo, defined eyes, light pink lips, a pair of black Jimmy Choo ‘Esther 85’ pointed toe d’Orsay pumps, and dazzling 18k yellow gold set Kwiat ‘Cobblestone’ white diamond pave drop earrings would definitely make this another chic moment for Amy to rock on the Globes stage.

My last pick for Amy is my most ostentatious. I can’t really recall many instances of Amy wearing heavily embellished moments, but I was drawn to this black, grey, and gold Pamella Roland Pre-Fall 2021 sunburst sequin and feather embellished tulle cape sleeved caftan style gown for her. It is a really beautiful and dramatic moment. So while the other looks still stick to Amy’s usual style I think that this would definitely end the night on a dazzling note, especially if styled with a sleek updo, defined eyes, nude pink lips, a pair of nude Jimmy Choo ‘Love 100’ embroidered lace pointed toe pumps, and simple white diamond Kwiat ‘Sunburst’ stud earrings with a double halo.

The 2021 Golden Globe Awards will take place on Sunday February 28, 2021.

2020 CMA Awards Red Carpet Wish List

Tomorrow night at the 2020 CMA Awards and I am interested in seeing what the ladies of country music are planning. There have been two country music awards since the pandemic hit and both have gone off without a hitch. “It will be an honor to bring the biggest country stars in the world together — in one room — for the first time this year,” said CMA CEO Sarah Trahern to The Boot, who describes the 2020 CMA Awards environment as “fully safe and physically distant.” So I will be very interested in seeing what the event will be. Will there be an actual red carpet? Who will actually show up? The 5 looks below would all make for a very successful night on the red carpet. Ashley McBryd won the Best New Artist trophy at last years CMA Awards and holds 3 nominations this year. She will also be performing in the opening tribute to the late Charlie Daniels as well as performing her own song “One Night Standards.” I don’t know anything about Ashley’s style, but I always look at all the female nominees pictures to decide if I will cover them or not (country awards aren’t known for big fashion moments) and Ashley made me interested. I don’t know who designed her gown from the Grammy Awards earlier this year, but I liked it. I also love her chest tattoo. So I went shopping. As a curvy girl on the red carpet it can be difficult to pick looks or find brands who will dress you. One brand who specifically caters to curvy women is Marina Rinaldi who recently partnered with Antonio Berardi on a capsule collection. I would love to see Ashley rock the china blue water print silk chiffon caftan gown which features a sash collar, long balloon sleeves, cut at the waist with gathering layered over a matching slip, finished with contrasting black lace. I feel like to ensure this look is a major fashion moment for Ashley I would style it with the black leather and gold chain charms detailed belt that it was styled with in the lookbook with a rockabilly inspired updo, defined winged eyes, bold red lips, and matching gold Marina Rinaldi x Antonio Berardi charm detailed gold chain strappy metallic leather sandals. When it comes to country music Carrie Underwood is a queen, but when it comes to the red carpet not so much. I always feel like Carrie has such potential, but often times she just doesn’t live up to it. Her gown last year at the CMA Awards was a mess. It was a sheer monstrosity that had the worse shapewear slip and a dirty dishwater tulle train attached. I want Carrie to rock something major on the red carpet at the CMA Awards this year with this lavender Rami Kadi Fall 2020 Couture strapless mermaid gown which features a crystal embellished sweetheart neckline, a lattice textured drop waist bodice, crystal appliques, and a dramatic feathered skirt. It has been a hot second since we’ve seen Rami Kadi on the red carpet and I feel like Carrie wearing this gown on the red carpet at the CMA Awards would be a triumphant return for both of them. Old Hollywood waves worn over one shoulder, defined eyes, soft pink lips, a pair of silver Giuseppe Zanotti ‘Catia’ strappy ankle strap sandals, and Kwiat ‘Legacy Embrace’ white diamond pear shaped drop earrings would all make this look scream glamour from head to toe. When it comes to the ladies of country music it’s Kacey Musgraves whom is really the only “fashion” girl out there. She is the one who’s brought looks from Valentino, Giambattista Valli Couture, Moschino, Armani Prive, Balmain, Marchesa, and more to the red carpet. For tomorrow night’s CMA Awards I went with another major high fashion moment picking this rose gold chainmail Atelier Versace Fall 2020 Couture gown which features a plunging v-neck, off the shoulder knot draped sash over the shoulders, fitted silhouette, and a thigh high split. I knew almost immediately that I wanted to do an Atelier Versace moment for Kacey and this gown would be phenomenal on the songstress. With a sleek high ponytail, defined eyes, soft nude pink lips, rose gold Sergio Rossi ‘sr Gydda’ snake effect metallic leather strappy platform sandals, and a selection of gorgeous David Yurman jewels set in rose gold including a pair of ‘Starburst’ pink morganite and white diamond drop earrings and a ‘Stax’ pave set white diamond cuff bracelet I know that this could easily be a Best Dressed of the Year worthy contender. Maren Morris tries really hard to be a high fashion country princess, but it just doesn’t work. I tend to think that she comes across looking like she’s trying to hard when she steps out for a red carpet. Earlier this year she wore Alexander Wang and Versace for the ACM Awards and both were very disappointing looks. I feel like she should go for the sugary sweet side of country red carpets and that would be better than trying to force high fashion moments. Case and point? I think that this blush pink Georges Chakra Spring 2020 Couture strapless mini dress with a dramatic cape train would be a really great moment for Maren to bring to life on the red carpet. It is soft and sexy and despite its drama doesn’t seem like something that would have to be forced. It was a natural pick. While it would fit the boxes of your typical country music awards red carpet look I also think that Maren would be able to make it her best red carpet moment ever especially if she were to style this gown with a sleek high bun, defined eyes, bold pink lips, a pair of nude crystal embellished Rene Caovilla ‘Cleo’ coil ankle strap platform sandals, and Yessayan white diamond and yellow gold wreath earrings. The final wish I have for this years CMA Awards is for Miranda Lambert. She doesn’t walk many red carpets and she doesn’t have really good style. In fact for this wish I went for something every classic ans glamorous. She isn’t going to push boundaries so why even try. It’s been a while since I’ve even loved one of Miranda’s simpler looks. I feel like this black Tony Ward Spring 2021 RTW Chantilly lace fitted gown which features multicolor floral embroideries overlapped with a draping asymmetrical Georgette gathered on the waistline screams eleganza and would be a super chic moment for Miranda to bring to life on this red carpet. I wouldn’t be a major Best Dressed of the Year moment, but with old Hollywood waves, smokey eyes, bold red lips, a black Judith Leiber Couture crystal embellished slide lock clutch, a pair of black glittered Stuart Weitzman ‘The Amelina 95’ ankle strap sandals, and Gismondi 1754 one of a kind art deco inspired white diamond waterfall earrings I know it would be a personal best for Miranda.

The 2020 CMA Awards will take place tomorrow Wednesday November 11, 2020.

“The Witches” Premiere Red Carpet Wish List

Today I am going to take a quick break from reviewing my favorite collections of the season to talk about another movie that will come and go without us getting a red carpet premiere. The HBOMax remake of The Witches is set to be released this Thursday October 22, 2020 just in time for spooky season. While I don’t think that this cult classic needed to be remade I am interested in seeing what will come from the show. I am a little disappointed that the film will not have a red carpet premiere. I feel like Anne Hathaway would have been cooking up something MAJOR with her stylist.I wanted to pay homage to Angelia Houston, the original Grand High Witch in the original The Witches, and so I picked this gorgeous black and white Georges Chakra Fall 2020 Couture structured gown which features a dramatic asymmetric ruffle draped shoulder, column skirt dramatic train, long sleeve, and a white opera glove. I do feel like this gown embodies the spirit of The Grand High Witch and I feel like Anne would be able to sell it to me with effortless ease. A sleek bun updo, thick defined eyes, bold red lips, a pair of black leather Christian Louboutin ‘Loubi Queen’ ankle strap sandals, and Kwiat white diamond and colombian emerald marquise & baguette drop earrings would DEFINITELY have made this a superb glamour moment for Anne to wear to promote this film.

The Witches will start streaming on HBO Max on Thursday October 22, 2020.

2020 Emmy Awards Red Carpet Wish List

Well, I was SWAMPED with my actual job lately and I’ve been neglecting If I Was A Stylist as a result. That means that even though I had 14 posts planned for the 2020 Emmy Awards, which take place tonight, all I was able to do is this all in gallery for the nominees, presenters, and cast members of nominated projects. I am really interested to see how the Emmy’s will work from home with production kits sent to over 130 different locations. How will the fashion fare? We saw the fashion factor happen for the VMA’s and then Venice Film Festival actually happened in person and I was THRILLED. So in my wishes for this years event I’ve pulled looks hot off the runway this past week during NYFW, things shown seasons ago, as well as several looks I would love to see stars pull out of their archives and give another go. So check out my 54 wishes below and let me know which ones you would most like to see come true.

Fall 2020 Couture Round Up Red Carpet Wish List

Couture this season was VERY different. We saw designers tackle moving presentation digitally in vastly different ways. Dior did a short video editorial and showcased petite mains work on miniatures. Hobeika recorded a show without an audience from his home in Lebanon. Ralph & Russo showed a mix of in person shot lookbook, a digital spokesmodel, and sketches. And most showed smaller paired down collections shot in lookbooks. I would love to see many of these looks on the red carpet so I am hoping that we start seeing red carpets return soon. Two seasons worth of looks are already headed to the archives without being worn. So check out the 61 wishes below I would love to see brought to life on the red carpet from the Fall 2020 Couture collections.

2020 Cannes Film Festival What Could Have Been Wish List: “The Woman In The Window”

Joe Wright’s “Rear Window”-style psychological thriller about the mental collapse of an agoraphobic, alcoholic psychologist has already endured a push back after Disney purchased 20th Century Fox Studios. Adapted from author AJ Finn’s 2018 potboiler, it was originally slated for an October 2019 awards season release, then moved to May 15 of this year, and has yet to have it’s release rescheduled as its fate — like so many movies right now — remains unknown. But a Cannes slot could give this hotly awaited film a chance to rise from the ashes. Co-starring Amy Adams and Julianne Moore this film would have definitely cultivated a glamorous premiere at this years Cannes Film Festival. 2010’s On The Road was the first and only film that Amy Adams has stared in that has screened in Cannes and she didn’t even make the trip to the French Riviera to promote the film. I would have LOVED to see Amy bring her signature glam to Cannes this year to promote The Woman in the Window. I picked two super glamorous and elegant moments for Amy starting with this dark blue Oscar de la Renta draped cap sleeve wool blend midi dress which feature a faux wrap style skirt and a thigh high split. While some would work that full split to its potential I think that is much more of a classy woman and would just let the flesh pop naturally. I think that this dress minus the oxblood leather belt it was styled wit on the runway styled with a sleek center parted hairstyle tucked behind the ears, defined eyes, rose pink lips, and a pair of black and red Gianvito Rossi ‘Caterina’ pointed toe bow detail slingback pumps this look would ooze ladylike sophistication. For the premiere I went for big drama with this stone grey archive Elie Saab Spring 2009 Couture ball gown which features a sheer 3-D floral embroidered sleeveless bodice and a high waisted tiered crinkled silk skirt with a dramatic train. This gown has always been in the back of my mind. I’ve never used this gown in a wish before. I’ve been waiting for the right person at the right event to bring this gown out of the archive and Amy in Cannes is definitely the right pair to finally give this gown the red carpet moment it deserves. Amy has worn this color in the past and can get washed out easily wearing it, so the styling has to be PERFECT. To make sure this look just oozed major glam on the red carpet I would love to see Amy style this gown with a sleek retro updo, smokey eyes lined in emerald green, bold red lips, a pair of zinc grey Casadei ‘Blade Modern Love’ pointed toe ankle strap d’Orsay pumps, and a selection of Cartier High Jewelry including modern white diamond, enamel, and cabochon emerald fringe drop earrings and a vintage art deco white diamond and cabochon emerald bracelet.Julianne Moore has screened many films in Cannes and has won the festivals Best Actress award so seeing a film with her amongst the cast screening at the festival. So I started searching for two super moments for Julianne to wear while promoting The Woman in the Window in addition to the two couture moments I picked for her to wear as a L’Orealista from vintage Yves St. Laurent and Givenchy by Clare Waight Keller. For this films photocall I wanted to see Julianne turn to one of her favorite casual brands with this forest green Chloe Fall 2020 RTW cotton jersey midi dress which features long poet sleeves, lace details, a jewel neckline, drop waist, and a pleated skirt. Julianne in any shade of green is always something I am down for and I think that while this is definitely more of a winter color that Julianne would have made it feel light and bohemian for a photocall overlooking the French Riviera. I would do so by styling this look with loose waves, defined eyes, soft pink lips, and a pair of two tone brown Aquazzura ‘Cozumel Plateau’ strappy platform ankle strap sandals. Now for the premiere I hadn’t realized until I started writing this blog post that I had picked an archive runway look for Julianne in addition to Amy. This red chiffon Chanel Spring 1985 RTW draped gown which features a halter neck that turns into a dramatic train and a flowing a-line skirt is the second vintage moment I wanted to see Julianne bring to life in Cannes. I think that this moment would have been absolutely glamorous. Chiffon gowns in Cannes can bring magical moments if the fabric catches the sea breeze on the outdoor red carpet and knowing how Julianne handled that on the red carpet in Venice I know that she would have made this a super glam moment. Styled with a sleek updo, defined smokey eyes, rose pink lips, lipstick red satin Aquazzura ‘Deneuve’ bow detailed ankle strap sandals, and a pair of dazzling three row Chopard Red Carpet Collection 2019 fringe chandelier earrings I know that Julianne would have delivered nothing but glamour on this red carpet. I have several wishes for Cannes regulars today starting with L’Orealista Andie MacDowell. Sometimes Andie delivers WOW moments and sometimes she delivers beautiful but standard looks and sometimes she tries taking a risk and it just doesn’t work. My first wish for Andie was a super sleek statement red Valentino sequined column gown. That would most likely have landed in the WOW category. Today’s wish is much more within the beautiful but standard area. I LOVE this glamorous black silk Carolina Herrera Fall 2020 RTW strapless pailette embellished trumpet gown and I think that it is definitely something that Andie would be drawn to. I was looking and we have really only seen Carolina Herrera on the red carpet in Cannes three times before. Usually we see stars opt for European or couture labels for Cannes, but this super glam gown definitely would have spoken to the elegance that Cannes requires. I think that had Andie worn this gown with old Hollywood waves worn over one shoulder, defined eyes, red lips, a black crystal embellished Judith Leiber Couture ‘Slim Rectangle’ clutch, black Aquazzura ‘Forever’ cut out detailed pointed toe pumps, and a selection of Messika High Jewelry including white diamond ‘Firebird’ intricate cluster earrings, a super chic white diamond ‘Desert Bloom’ riviere necklace, and a white diamond peacock like ‘Desert Bloom’ cocktail ring that she would definitely have had a super glam moment on her hands.  Bruna Marquezine is a friend of Chopard so I was definitely hoping to see her bring the glam to the Cannes Film Festival red carpet this year. I wanted to see her wearing a custom version of this sea glass blue Alberta Ferretti Limited Edition Fall 2019 Couture ruffled gown which features a plunging neckline removing the sheer yoke, intricate beading, and a mermaid silhouette lengthening the hem to have a dramatic train. This gown with those modifications could definitely make for a perfect Cannes Film Festival gown and I think that Bruna would have been able sell this moment to me with ease. A loose romantic updo, soft smokey eyes, bright pink lips, a pair of silver crystal embellished Rene Caovilla ‘Ellabrita’ ankle strap sandals, and statement Chopard Red Carpet Collection white diamond and paraiba tourmaline pendent drop earrings would have definitely make this look seaside glam from head to toe. Thai actress Praya Lundberg knows how to bring the sexy and the drama to the Cannes Film Festival red carpet. Over the years she has typically chosen one column gown and one ballgown. In my What Could Have Been wishes I went for two major ballgowns. The first was super glam from Rami Kadi, so for the second look I wanted to infuse some sex appeal into the look. So I picked this black Georges Chakra Fall 2019 Couture asymmetrical one shoulder gown which features a cold shoulder, chest cutout, a sheer beaded column skirt, and a dramatic ruffled bustle train. It would be that dark, sexy glamour moment and I knew that it would have easily been something that Praya would have been drawn to. So to finish this look I would have loved seeing Praya style this gown with a sleek updo, defined eyes, bold red lips, black leather Christian Louboutin ‘Very Cathy’ ankle strap peep toe d’orsay platform sandals, and a pair of dazzling asymmetrical white and black diamond de Grisogono waterfall pendant drop earrings. Originally I was going to pick a more traditional Indian look for my second wish for the gorgeous Sonam Kapoor, but instead I went for dramatic glamour. I have wanted to see this midnight blue shiny Georges Hobeika Fall 2014 Couture gown which features a sweetheart neckline, fitted silhouette, and a dramatic bustle train on a red carpet since it was first presented six years ago. At the time I really wanted to see Eva Longoria wear this gown, but now I feel like Sonam is the perfect person to pull this gown out of the Hobeika archives. The gown itself isn’t beaded or dazzling on its face it has gravitas. I know that with a sleek updo, navy smokey eyes, soft rose pink lips, a pair of midnight blue iridescent crystal embellished Rene Caovilla ‘Celebrita’ platform ankle strap sandals, and a punch of sparkle via a white diamond and sapphire starburst Chopard Red Carpet Collection 2019 collar necklace would have definitely ensured this moment was nothing but dramatic glamour defined.

2020 Cannes Film Festival What Could Have Been Wish List: “Passing”

As I was reading articles about movies that might have screened in Cannes this year I noticed A LOT of movies on these lists were directed by women. One film that was in rumored to be nearing completion of post-production was UK feature Passing directed by Rebecca Hall. The film is based on a novel of the same name by Nella Larsen published in 1923. Set primarily in the Harlem neighborhood of New York City in the 1920s, the story centers on the reunion of two childhood friend, Clare Kendry and Irene Redfield, and their increasing fascination with each other’s lives. The title refers to the practice of “racial passing”, and is a key element; Clare Kendry’s attempt to pass as white for her husband. It sounds like a truly intriguing story and one that I feel we might continue to hear about in coming months for awards season buzz.Rebecca Hall has been one whom I find extremely underrated as a fashionista. I would have loved to see what she would have cooked up for looks to promote her directorial debut on the worlds most glamorous platform. Naturally I turned to nothing but couture, because what else should one wear to promote their first directorial feature in Cannes other than haute couture? For the photocall I went with a tailored look from the Armani Prive Spring 2020 Couture collection which includes a red and sand ikat print cropped blazer with a ruffle detail and a pair of sand silk pants. The look is classic yet statement making and perfect for a photocall and press conference at the worlds most prestigious film festival. I would style the look with a sand silk charmuse button down, defined eyes, light red lips, and a pair of ballet pink suede Jimmy Choo ‘Baily’ pointed toe crystal and pearl encrusted mary-jane pumps to make it perfect for Rebecca. For the premiere I went full modern glam picking this navy, midnight blue, and red beaded organza Armani Prive Spring 2020 Couture strapless column gown which features a light tiered skirt. Rebecca is the second person I wanted to see wearing this gown in Cannes and honestly I think this gown was made for her. It would be chic and glamorous head to toe styled with a sleek side parted updo, defined eyes, bold fire engine red lips, a black Jimmy Choo ‘Leonis’ crystal clasp clutch, black floral beaded Jimmy Choo ‘Deia’ ankle strap sandals, and the same white diamond Chopard Red Carpet Collection teardrop paisley earrings that Elle Fanning wore to the Cannes 2019 Opening Ceremony, It was in Cannes back in 2016 that we were first introduced to Ruth Negga when she stepped onto the red carpet at the Palais de Festivals wearing Marc Jacobs styled by Karla Welch for the premiere of Loving. Since then Ruth has shown us that she is a real fashionista, but for the last almost two years she has almost exclusively worn Louis Vuitton on the red carpet. Regular readers know my disdain for Vuitton as a major red carpet brand, but it is what it is. I want to see her once again deliver high fashion moments on the red carpet. For the photocall I went left of Louis Vuitton for Ruth picking this creamy beige and red Guy Laroche Fall 2020 RTW pencil dress which features color blocking, a pussy bow neckline, and asymmetrical 3/4 length sleeves. This look is super chic take on 80’s secretarial chic and I think that Ruth would be able to rock for a photocall with her signature cropped curls, defined, nude glossy lips, a pair of brown monogrammed canvas, white, and black Louis Vuitton ‘Matchmake’ strappy chunky heel sandals, and a selections of Ara Vartanian jewels including simple three stone white diamond and ruby drop earrings and a two ruby horseshoe ring with white diamonds. Now the gown I want to see her wearing for the premiere is going to take a little imagination to convey. Looking at the image above you might think I’m crazy looking at the Louis Vuitton Pre-Fall 2020 ensemble that is there, I would too, but keep reading and imagine with me a custom gown for Ruth. I saw the pastel multicolored sequin camisole from this look which reminds me a bit of stained glass windows and was inspired. That is what happens when I dig through Nicolas Ghesquiere’s collections I can find good pieces in the mess of ideas that I think he should run with. That is what I want to see happen with this camisole turning it into a perfectly fitted column gown which features a low back and the sequined embellishments continued throughout. Again her signature cropped curls with smokey eyes, bright pink lips, a pair of rose pink satin Louis Vuitton ‘Silhouette’ silver heel sandals, and statement Chopard Red Carpet Collection emerald, rubellite, pink sapphire, and tanzanite drop earrings would have made Ruth’s return to the Palais perfection. Tessa Thompson would have made her Cannes Film Festival debut this year had Passing screened at this years Cannes Film Festival. Since bursting onto the scene thanks Selma several years ago Tessa has really grown into the perfect fashionista on the red carpet. She isn’t afraid to take risks and give us bold glamour moments on the red carpet. So as I was looking at the couture collections for inspiration for what I wanted to see her bring to life in Cannes I just knew that Tessa would be the perfect Valentino girl in Cannes, so I picked two looks from the brands couture collections for Tessa. The first for the photocall is a tailored ensemble from the Valentino Fall 2018 Couture collection which features a metallic gold blazer, a watermelon pink chiffon top with a pussy bow neckline and dramatic ruffled cuffs, and a pair of mint green pleated bermuda shorts. This look is not for the fashion faint hearted and is going to take the right vibe to really make work off the runway. It doesn’t really shock me that this look hasn’t been worn since it was first presented two years ago, but I feel like Tessa has the effortless edgy presence needed to snatch this gown out of the Valentino archive and bring it to life for a photocall. With the look being such a risk I would keep the styling relatively simple with a sleek updo, thick winged eyes, nude lips, and a pair of apple green snakeskin print Aquazzura ‘Purist’ pointed toe pumps. For the premiere I went with something just as dramatic, but in more of classic manner with this black and sterling rose blue strapless column gown from the Valentino Spring 2020 Couture collection which features a sash bow detail empire waist, thigh high split, and a second dramatic black bow on the back. This look is glamorous and I know that Tessa would bring this look to life with glamorous ease. With all the drama in the gown itself the styling should be sleek and complimentary. So I would finish this look with a sleek side parted updo, smokey eyes, bold matte red lips, strappy black Aquazzura ‘Sublime’ crystal dome detailed sandals, and sleek white diamond Chopard red carpet collection zipper-like drop earrings. Each would have made sure that Tessa would have delivered dramatic glamour for her Cannes Film Festival debut. Dutch supermodel Doutzen Kroes has been coming to Cannes as a L’Orealista for as long as I can remember, but I can only think of three times where she has really knocked it out of the fashion ballpark. Those looks came courtesy of Calvin Klein by Francisco Costa, Balmain, and Tom Ford. Each look was super sleek and glamorous in its way. Doutzen tends to be more of a sleek minimalist, but honestly I think about other red carpet moments she’s had and I know that drama is in her vocabulary. I’ve picked two looks I wanted to see Doutzen wearing in Cannes this year in these wishes, the first one being this white Atelier Versace Fall 1997 asymmetric ruched draped gown which features an asymmetrical neckline, single strong shoulder, one sleeve, a thigh high split, and a sweeping train. After picking all those major archive runway moments for the Met Gala I wanted to keep the idea moving as there are vintage moments that really deserve red carpet moments. This is one of them. I think that Doutzen has the presence to really ooze dramatic, sensual glamour wearing this gown on a red carpet especially with a sleek updo, smokey eyes, red lips, a pair of white Versace crystal rope strap sandals, and Chopard Red Carpet Collection white diamond and sapphire pendant drop earrings. A decade ago in Cannes Eva Longoria was OWNING the red carpets wearing major looks from Emilio Pucci Couture by Peter Dundas and Naeem Khan. The Emilio Pucci gown is honestly my favorite thing that Eva has ever worn and is easily one of the best Cannes Film Festival gowns ever. Since then there has been a deterioration in Eva’s style. She tends to pick looks that look cheap and tacky. I want that glamorous drama back. I had a feeling that is what we would have gotten had she shown up to walk the red carpet at the Palais de Festivals wearing this periwinkle blue Georges Chakra Spring 2020 Couture asymmetrical one shoulder mermaid gown which features a dramatic ruffled skirt. I wasn’t a huge fan of this collection overall, but there were a couple of really cool moments. This was one of them and the moment I saw it I immediately thought of Eva giving her best diva glam face and pose wearing this gown in Cannes. I almost feel deprived of this moment to be completely honest. I had really high expectations that this wish was going to come true. It would have been made perfect styled with a dramatic sleek big top bun updo, defined smokey eyes, pink lips, a pair of silver crystal embellished Rene Caovilla ankle strap pointed toe d’orsay satin pumps, and de Grisogono white diamond and aquamarine earclips.

2020 Cannes Film Festival What Could Have Been Wish List: “Annette”

It was announced on Monday that after ruling out a digital edition that the Cannes Film Festival would be coordinating with YouTube and 19 other international film festivals (including Venice, Berlin, New York, Marrakesh, Toronto, and Tribeca to name a few) on a digital film festival called “We Are One: A Global Film Festival” that will stream FREE to all from May 29, 2020 to June 7, 2020. What does this mean for a physical edition of the Cannes Film Festival? Well I don’t know. We do not know yet what the films selected for this digital festival are yet, but I am continuing on with my wishes for what could have been in Cannes this year if the festival was still taking place in person at the Palais de Festivals. Leos Carax’s long-awaited Los Angeles-based rock opera romance Annette, co-starring Adam Driver and Marion Cotillard as a stand-up comedian and his opera singer wife, had not been expected to be ready in time for a Cannes debut, even prior to the pandemic. The postponement of the festival due to the COVID-19 crisis definitely could see the festival selection shook up. It could mean that due to the release dates of films which were expected to screen in this years selection could no longer work with the potential new dates of the festival, which we are still awaiting word on when it will be, and it could allow for films who were close to being finished but not quite ready to take a bow on the croisette. Marion Cotillard is a Cannes Film Festival regular. Honestly I wonder at what point in time she will finally be selected to act as a jury member at the festival. Well this year it looks like instead of reporting for jury duty that Marion was expected to premiere another film at the festival. Just a couple of weeks ago Chanel made its relationship with Marion official unveiling her as the newest face of the Chanel No. 5 fragrance. This news came as no surprise as Marion has almost exclusively worn Chanel on the red carpet over the last year. I decided to only pick one Chanel look for Marion to wear while promoting Annette on the croisette. So for the films photocall I decided to go with a bold statement look from the Halpern Fall 2020 RTW collection which features an orange and yellow one shoulder caftan top and a pair of metallic lime green skinny pants. I have wanted to see Marion wearing looks from this collection since I first saw the images from the runway presentation back in February. This look would definitely fit right in on the iconic Cannes photocall setting overlooking the French Rivera. Styled with loose bohemian waves, defined eyes, bright pink lips, a pair of mekong gold PVC Gianvito Rossi ‘Kyle’ 2 strap sling back pointed toe pumps, and Chanel logo, star, and moon drop costume earrings made of glass pearls, imitation pearls, crystal, and resin gold I know this look would be that effortlessly cool moment I know Marion can deliver with ease. Now for the premiere I decided to once again dive into the Karl Lagerfeld for Chanel era archives for Marion. She wore a two piece archive look for last years festival and it ended up looking more like a cheap prom look than vintage couture. So I wanted to make sure that Marion delivered something super glam on this years red carpet. I went for a late Edwardian meets early Flapper era inspired navy silk and black lace tulle thin strap gown which features a drop waist, gold metal belt detail, sheer detailing on the skirt, and a sweeping train from the Chanel Spring 1996 Couture collection. I feel like this is the kind of moment from Chanel that I know Marion would be able to bring to life with ease on the Cannes Film Festival red carpet. The gown is elegance defined and I know that ditching the ruffled capelet the gown was paired with on the runway and styling the gown with a sleek retro inspired updo, smokey eyes, bold red lips, black Gianvito Rossi ‘Denise’ peep toe PVC paneled strappy sandals, and a selection of Chopard Red Carpet Collection jewels including a pair of white diamond scalloped floral drop earrings and a statement white, yellow, brown, and champagne scroll vine cuff bracelet that Marion would have her best Chanel red carpet moment ever. Bollywood icon Aishwarya Rai is a long time ambassador for Cannes Film Festival sponsor L’Oreal Paris. She embodies glamour and always goes for the bold. The last three years especially. I am always looking at the couture runways for perfect fashion moment for Aishwarya to bring to life on the Cannes Film Festival red carpets, as this really is the only big event each year we see her attend. I saw this MAJOR electric blue Stephane Rolland Spring 2020 Couture “Half Moon” duchess satin gown which features one long sleeve, strong shoulder detail, a silver crystal embellished detail on the bodice, a draped tulip skirt, center split, and a LONG dramatic train and Aishwarya immediately popped into my mind. She knows how to work difficult gowns on the red carpet and this gown is definitely difficult to pull off. I feel like she would take this major modern meet’s 60’s style moment and go full 60’s glam with it styling this gown with a sleek beehive updo, thick wing lined smokey eyes, bold red lips, the runways platform silver pumps, a pair of major asymmetrical white diamond and sapphire de Grisogono ‘Triangle’ earrings, and a statement white diamond and sapphire de Grisogono cocktail ring. This is definitely the most avant garde and dramatic moment I’ve picked for the Cannes Film Festival red carpet and I know that Aishwarya would once again be topping Best of Cannes lists wearing this gown on the festivals red carpet. Petra Nemcova is a global brand ambassador for Chopard. As the luxury jewelry brand is a sponsor of the festival we always see the gorgeous supermodel on the red carpet at the Palais de Festivals. When it comes to style Petra isn’t really someone I look to shut down the red carpet in Cannes, but I do expect her to wear something super glamorous. So I saw this aqua Georges Chakra Spring 2020 Couture asymmetrical gown which features a single sleeve off the shoulder neckline, flounce detail at the hip, thigh high split, and a long dramatic bustle train and thought it would definitely be a super glam statement gown for Petra to wear on the red carpet. She tends to pick red, black, or white gowns for the red carpet so this color would definitely be a great change of pace and would definitely compliment a major Chopard Red Carpet Collection 2019 paraiba tourmaline, sapphire, and white diamond necklace. Finishing the look with a sleek bun updo, defined eyes, soft pink lips, and a pair of iridescent silver sequin and crystal embellished Christian Louboutin ‘Degrastrass’ pointed toe PVC pumps and this would definitely be a that super glamorous moment for Petra to deliver on the Cannes Film Festival red carpet while promoting Chopard.
