2021 Grammy Awards Red Carpet Wish List Part 4

I am getting very excited for what this years Grammy Awards will be. With all the possibilities from in person presenters and performers (and hopefully some winners) to looks from nominees who aren’t able to attend in person on Instagram I am ready for FASHIONS. The Grammy’s always allows for some major fashion moments we wouldn’t see on any of the film awards red carpets during award season. So I am having a lot of fun wit my wishes for the collection as well. Billie Eilish has always had a very interesting sense of style. Last awards season she rocked Chanel, Gucci, and Burberry track suit style looks for all the red carpets she walked. I don’t want to change her, so when I was looking for something for the singer who is nominated for 4 Grammy’s including Record of the Year and Song of the Year and is also performing at this years show I turned to the Valentino Spring 2021 Couture collection. I was thinking about all the cool boxier cut and layered looks from the collection and knew that I would find a great moment for Billie to wear on this red carpet and I found it in this look which features a gold embossed brocade cocoon cape inspired sleeveless hoodie (A COUTURE HOODIE), a sleeveless light but turtleneck, sand colored pleated front trousers, and matching elbow gloves. This moment is definitely the most Billie look that was show in this collection and I really want to see her rock it for the Grammy’s red carpet. According to her Instagram Billie is still rocking that horrible acid green roots thing. I don’t think that would work with this look though. Instead I would like to see Billie give us more of something like an deep ink blue instead. To finish the look I would style the moment with defined eyes, nude pink lips, and a pair of metallic gold Valentino Couture platform derbies. Cynthia Erivo is nominated for Best Song Written for Visual Media for her song “Stand Up” from Harriet. She is a consummate fashionista and so I know that had this been a regular year that she would have shown up on the Grammy’s red carpet serving a major look like she was one of the top nominated artists of the night. The fact that she is also be a part of this years post Grammy special “A Salute to the Sound of Change” would have also boded well for her being on the Grammy’s red carpet. I was going to start looking through my archives of couture runways for Cynthia, but then I saw this gold lamé button back of the shoulder peak lapel gown with an oversized drape and puffer coat backpack turned tiered train from the Paris Fashion Week presentation of the Thom Browne Fall 2021 RTW collection. There are very few stars who I think could pull a look like this off, but despite her petite frame I know that Cynthia could serve this moment up and deliver it on a red carpet and the Grammy’s would be perfect. Now for the lookbook the gown was styled with a signature black Thom Browne tuxedo on top under the gown. I would ditch that. Instead styling the gown with her signature bleached buzzed hair, smokey eyes, deep berry red glossy lips, metallic gold leather Aquazzura ‘Gin Plateau 140’ strappy platform sandals, and a statement Harry Winston white and yellow diamond collar necklace would make it a major fashion moment.Harry Style is nominated for Best Solo Pop Performance, Best Pop Album, and Best Music Video at this years Grammy Awards and I am super disappointed that the regular red carpet isn’t going to happen. Harry has been one of my men to watch on the red carpet because he isn’t afraid to blur the gender lines on the red carpet. Now that being said Harry is still performing at this years show and I hope he serves up some cool looks. I have two looks for Harry one for the red carpet and one for a performance. The red carpet look I’ve picked for Harry is a powder blue Gucci Spring 2017 Menswear shawl lapel tailcoat tuxedo which I would style a little differently than it was on the runway I would ditch the tangerine short wide tie and change the shirt. Instead I would style the look with a classic pleated tuxedo shirt, the cummerbund front he runway, a pair of navy velvet Gucci ‘New Jordaan Horsebit’ leather trimmed logo embroidered loafers, and a major white diamond and tanzanite Gucci High Jewelry heart, arrow, and floral brooch instead of a tie to really make this a cool look for Harry. For the performance, of which I don’t have any idea what it will be, I would love to see Harry hit the stage wearing this raspberry red metallic plaid silk brocade Gucci Fall 2020 Menswear 70’s inspired wide lapel suit. It is definitely something I can see Harry being drawn to and I feel like the subtle sparkle makes it a perfect stage look. Again I would switch up the styling ditching hat, shirt, and sweater from the runway in favor of a blush pink floral jacquard Gucci blouse style button down, a pair of black Gucci ‘Zahara’ silver buckle cowboy inspired ankle boots, and a Gucci ‘Hortus Delicarium’ white diamond and morganite leaf wreath and lion head necklace for a bit of sparkle. Jhene Aiko will host the Grammy Premiere ceremony, which is the party of the show that isn’t televised where they hand out all kinds of awards. In addition to that she is nominated for 3 Grammy’s herself this year including Album of the Year, Best Progressive R&B Album, & Best R&B Performance. So I am really hoping to see her deliver a superb moment on the red carpet. I went for sexy glamour inspired by Grace Jones with this black/gold sequin Rami Al Ali Spring 2021 Couture draped hooded wrap style gown with a major split in the front. I love this super glam moment and I feel like it would just ooze sexy and edgy glam, especially with tight cornrow braids, perfectly laid curled edges, defined eyes, nude glossy lips, a pair of gold and black Casadei ‘Blade Jeannie’ strappy ankle strap sandals, and a statement gold basket weave Vhernier ‘Giunco’ cuff bracelet. The last two wishes for today are for Travis Scott & Kylie Jenner. I would have loved to see the on again off again couple back on the Grammy’s red carpet together. But since he is just nominated for one Grammy this year, Best Melodic Rap Performance, I doubt we will see either of them on the red carpet either in person or virtually. If they do I would love to see them rock superb complimentary moments starting with an industrial grey Christian Dior Pre-Fall 2021 utilitarian inspired double breasted suit with a light grey turtleneck (a menswear trend this awards season), and a red silk flower boutonniere for Travis styled with a pair of black calfskin leather Dior Men ‘Dior Explorer Boot II’ oblique embossed combat boots. It’s a cool yet chic moment and I feel like it would be something that Travis would be drawn to. For Kylie I wanted glamour and sex appeal and I found it in this red one shoulder Atelier Versace Spring 2021 Couture column gown which features a structured origami petal inspired sculptural shoulder detail and a thigh high split. I am obsessed with this gown and while I wouldn’t usually waste this major moment on Kylie I know that if anyone could bring up a major IG red carpet moment it would be Kylie. Taking this gown and styling it with a sleek flip style high pony tail, defined eyes, Kylie Cosmetics ‘Lovey Dovey’ matte lips, simple red satin Versace ankle strap platform sandals, and a selection of Jacob & Co. jewels including a pair of white diamond art deco inspired chandelier earrings and a dazzling pigeon blood ruby and white diamond three row bracelet would make sure this statement look would compliment the Dior on Travis perfectly.

The 2021 Grammy Awards, hosted by Trevor Noah, will air live on CBS Sunday March 14, 2021. You can see all of my wishes for this years red carpet here.

2020 American Music Awards Red Carpet Wish List Part 4

With every day that comes I am getting more and more excited for the 2020 American Music Awards. The presenters and performers list is really good. It is going to be the most star studded night since lockdown hit back in March. I’m holding out hope that everyone will be on the top of their glam game. I want this red carpet to rival the Oscars and Grammy’s earlier this year in a time that almost feels foreign. All of the looks in today’s wishes would definitely make for a major night of fashion. Let’s start today’s wishes by digging into the archives for Cardi B, who is nominated for 3 American Music Awards. She has been a big fan of Mugler and pretty much since she burst onto the scene. She’s rocked major modern and vintage Mugler on several occasions. For this weekends red carpet I went back into the brands archives to pick a major moment for Cardi to bring to life with this major ensemble from the Thierry Mugler Fall 1995 Couture collection which features a huge white fur coat with a train and a black to nude sequin ombre fitted column gown with long sleeves, an illusion bodice, and a crystal embellished necklace. I definitely feel like this would be a phenomenal moment for Cardi while still being the perfect meshing of hood glam and haute couture. That coat would definitely draw in some hate from PETA, but Cardi isn’t afraid to wear a fur and that is what really sold the idea of this look to me. A sleek braided high bun updo with curled edges, thick winged smokey eyes, deep berry red lips, a pair of black crystal embellished Giuseppe Zanotti peep toe double stacked stiletto pumps, and Lorraine Schwartz earrings made of 100 carats of round cut white diamonds and teardrop colombian emeralds would definitely make this the major uber glam statement making moment I want to see from Cardi. Harry Styles has been blurring the gender lines, ever so slightly, for a while now. He was lauded for being the first solo man to cover VOGUE wearing a Gucci gown none the less recently. I have gone back and forth when it comes to Harry’s sense of style. I want him to really deliver, but often times it falls flat. I think my expectations for his style are a little higher than what the Gucci people will let him get to. Now while he is a face of Gucci, and there is a purple suit from the recently presented Gucci Spring 2021 Collection I would love to see Harry wear, I decided to go left and pick this black J.W. Anderson Spring 2021 Menswear tuxedo which features a bow detailed waist tuxedo dress and high waisted harem pants. This look is such a statement. It would continue to blur the lines between masculinity and femininity for Harry and I would love to see him give it the moment it deserves. I would style this look with a pair of black patent leather Jimmy Choo ‘Foxley’ tassel detailed loafers, white Gucci logo tube socks with black bands on the ankles, and a single Cartier ‘Pluie de Cartier’ plume inspired white diamond drop earring. It would make it a really cool moment for Harry to bring to life. Justin Beiber is performing at the AMA’s this weekend (where he is also nominated for 4 awards). I hear it’s going to be an almost identical performance to the one he just gave this last weekend at the People’s Choice Awards. I hope not, but I also hope we see Justin serve a look on the red carpet. While I appreciate his more laid back style I know his stylist Karla Welch would be able to get him into something much more fashion-y which is why I picked this really cool hand drawn Burberry by Riccardo Tisci Spring 2021 RTW look which features a long sleeve button down shirt and straight leg trousers. I love how the buttons on the sleeve were styled unbuttoned on the runway and I would do the same for Justin if I was dressing him. Honestly I would keep all the runway styling except I would swap the shoes for a pair of white Nike ‘Air Force 1 Low Supreme I/O Michael Lau’ quilted leather sneakers. Now I doubt it, but who would be a better person to introduce Justin’s performance than his supermodel wife Hailey Baldwin? It’s been a really long time since we’ve seen her make a public appearance and I would love to see her up the glam game stepping out for the American Music Awards with Justin wearing this brick red David Koma Spring 2021 RTW halter gown which features crystal tube trimming at the neck and on the split, a cutout curved split, and a sheath silhouette. It is a sexy and sporty yet very glamorous moment that I think Hailey would be able to serve up on the red carpet. A sleek center parted bob, defined eyes, soft blush pink lips, silver Azzedine Alaia twisted studded rope strappy metallic leather sandals, and glamorous Kwiat ‘Cobblestone’ teardrop pendant drop pave set white diamond drop earrings would add the perfect finishing touches. Lady Gaga isn’t confirmed to attend the American Music Awards as of yet despite the fact she is nominated for 4 awards. I was all over the map when it came to deciding what I would want to see Gaga wear on this red carpet if she were to walk the red carpet. Ultimately I saw this lavender Germainer Spring 2021 RTW off the shoulder gown which features intricate ruching, a ruffled neckline, poet sleeves, tulip hips, and a flared hem and thought it would be a major moment for Gaga to bring to life. Believe it or not this gown is made up of just 5 rectangles of fashion so this look is considered to be zero waist. Germainer is one of the rising stars in sustainable fashion and I feel that in addition to the major alien like drama of the look that is something that would drawn Gaga to this look. I went round and round with how I would style this look. I adore the way the model was painted lavender to match the gown, and I can totally see Gaga doing that. I just don’t know if she would do it after the designer did in the lookbook. Instead I decided that a high metallic lavender high ponytail wig, bold smokey eyes, a statement silver crystal embellished Rinaldy Yunardi baroque inspired couture mask (which is decorative and Gaga would need a real protective mask underneath), and lavender glitter and clear PVC Pleaser ‘Adore’ crazy platform sandals. It would all make for a truly major alien glam moment. Closing out today is Maren Morris who is nominated for two AMA’s. I know she has potential. I can see it deep inside, but she doesn’t wear anything well. She has terrible taste and I know it isn’t the stylist. She has had multiple and no one has been able to make me like her red carpet looks. So I didn’t even try to pick something that would be a game changer for her standing on the red carpet, but instead opting for something I feel like is exactly what we should come to expect from Maren. I think she would be all about this hot pink and electric blue silk charmuse one shoulder Redemption Spring 2021 RTW 80’s inspired draped gown which features a bow detail on one hip, faux wrap style skirt, and a thigh high split. I personally hate it and there are very few I think could really sell it to me. That being said Maren isn’t one of them, but again it’s almost like I’ve given up at this point. A loose updo, defined eyes, soft pink glossy lips, hot pink Giuseppe Zanotti crystal trimmed ankle strap sandals, and a pair of one of a kind fancy shape Norman Silverman floral inspired dangle earrings set in 18K white gold might be enough to make me not hate it, but the look would have to be tailored perfectly.

The 2020 American Music Awards will take place on Sunday November 22, 2020. Check out all of my wishes for this red carpet here.

2020 Billboard Music Awards Red Carpet Wish List

Tomorrow night are the 2020 pandemic version of the Billboard Music Awards. The awards are finally happening, in a virtual event, after being postponed earlier this year. I don’t know what to expect, but there are some major names in the list of nominees and performers so I hope to see a lot of these stars over the course of the telecast tomorrow night. Check out some of the absolutely major moments I want to see these stars rock tomorrow night for the virtual “red carpet” and let me know which are your favorites and which ones you most want to see brought to life.

2020 MTV Video Music Awards Red Carpet Wish List Part 5

Today’s wishes are about the men who are nominated and performing at the 2020 MTV Video Music Awards. I am really interested in seeing what this award show will turn out to be. When it comes to major menswear moments the men of music know how to live up to my life motto of “When In Doubt Be Extra.” So when I was picking menswear moments for the VMA’s I got to have a lot of fun going for real avant garde fashion moments for the men below to bring to life. A$AP Rocky is known for bringing the fashion factor to the red carpet. He has favored Dior Homme since Kim Jones took the helm, but instead I went to another super hyped brand for him to wear for the VMAs. I LOVE this black and chocolate brown Bottega Veneta Fall 2020 collection ensemble which features a dancing shadow sheer knit button down long sleeve top, a pair of high waisted straight leg pants, and a cummerbund. It isn’t a look for the faint of heart and I think that A$AP Rocky would definitely be able to sell it to me with ease for the VMAs. Harry Styles is a Gucci devotee. I live that Harry, especially as a a straight man, wants to blur the lines of gender on the red carpet. Unfortunately it often doesn’t work and he ends up looking like a grandma in ill-fitting clothing. Had there been a red carpet for this years VMAs I would have LOVED to see Harry rock this peach and bright floral printed Gucci Resort 2021 Menswear suit which features a box cut double breasted jacket, flared wide leg trousers, and a beige pussy bow blouse. It is definitely right up Harry’s sense of style and I feel like we will definitely see him bring this look to life at some point. His tousled waves and a pair of oatmeal leather Gucci horsebit leather loafers would finish this look perfectly. John Legend is nominated in two new categories at the VMA’s. He could take home the Moonperson for Best Music Video from Home and/or Best Quarantine Performance. Now with his awards being taken from the Pandemic performance shift I would imagine that if John won anything that he will accept it from home super casual. It’s a shame because I always love seeing him and wife Chrissy Teigan rocking a red carpet. So of course I had to pick two looks for the couple as if there were going to be a red carpet. For John I would have loved to see him rock this Off-White c/o Virgil Abloh Resort 2021 Menswear suit which features a grey single button blazer with an asymmetrical band detail on the waist and a pair of slim fit black trousers. Now I would have switched up the styling a bit instead styling it with a crisp white shirt, a black bow tie, and a pair of black Christian Louboutin ‘Met Greggo’ glitter, patent, and velvet silver heeled cap toe oxfords. Now for Chrissy, who recently announced that she was pregnant, I went with fun glamour opting for this black and silver beaded fringe covered Azzaro Fall 2019 Couture halter gown which features a loose fit and a side split. This gown would be a super glam maternity moment and I feel like Chrissy would definitely be able to sell it to me giving a bit of a twist and twirl to really work that fringe to it’s full potential. A sleek updo, smokey eyes, bold red lips, a pair of black Christian Louboutin ‘Follies Strass’ crystal embellished mesh pointed toe pumps, and dazzling white diamond Butani chandelier earrings would definitely make sure this couple, as usual, would have delivered glamour on the VMA’s red carpet. I love Maluma. He is always one to serve a look so I am really excited to see what he will wear for the VMAs where he is both nominated and performing. I went through a gambit of different labels when I was thinking about what to pick for Maluma, but it was this Dior grey two button double breasted Dior Men Spring 2019 Menswear suit with a cream to fuchsia ombre silk sash kept popping back into my mind. We’ve seen a couple iterations of this look on the red carpet thanks to Gwendoline Christie and Darren Criss, but I feel like Maluma would definitely give this style a MAJOR red carpet moment. The runways t-shirt and a pair of silver Balenciaga tyrex nylon, mesh, faux leather, and rubber sneakers would add the perfect finishing touches to this ensemble for Maluma. The last look today is for Travis Scott. I’ve definitely kept an eye on Travis and his style. He tends to favor looks from Dior Homme or Louis Vuitton, but I saw this sunset print Balmain Resort 2021 Menswear blazer and matching button down shirt worn unbuttoned with a black t-shirt and black trousers and it spoke to me. It is a super cool look and I feel like Travis would bring his effortless cool vibe to this look for sure. I would finish the look with statement sneakers via a pair of black and gold Giuseppe Zanotti ‘Talon’ low top sneakers to really make sure this look is cool from head to toe.

The 2020 MTV Video Music Awards will take place on Sunday August 30, 2020. You can see all my VMA’s wishes here.

2019 Met Gala Red Carpet Wish List Part 1

Well ladies and gentleman after weeks of me teasing my 2019 Met Gala wishes they are finally here! I have been planning these wishes for WEEKS. It all started with the Menswear and Couture shows back in January and then stalking the new Fall 2019 RTW shows for whole looks to use and of course some major custom moments. I also searched the racks of online stores and the depths of designer archives to really ensure that I had the best set of wishes possible for this years theme. The theme of this year exhibit, and gala, is Camp: Notes on Fashion. Andrew Bolton, curator of the Costume Institute at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, has designed the exhibition around Susan Sontag’s seminal 1964 essay Notes on “Camp”, which posited different ways in which the concept could be construed. Personally I take camp as kitsch, drama, color, over the top, and avant garde so I am hoping we see lots of super dramatic looks on the red carpet. To kick off the lists as always is Anna Wintour, her daughter, the event co-hosts, and Salma Hayek (since the gala is being sponsored this year by Gucci.)This is going to be Anna Wintour’s I don’t know gazillionth year hosting the Met Gala. It has become the single largest fundraiser the Metropolitan Museum of Art holds in a year. It furnishes the entire operating budget for the Costume Institute department at the museum. This gala raises about $12 million every year and since taking over planning the Met Gala Anna has helped raise over $190 million. Over the last decade Anna has only worn a designer other than Chanel Couture for this red carpet, and that was when she wore a custom Prada gown for the gala themed around Prada and Schiaparelli. I would imagine that following the passing of her good friend Karl Lagerfeld last month that Anna will definitely continue her tradition and pay tribute to him wearing his final couture collection for Chanel. Karl wasn’t the most ‘Camp’ of designers out there, but then again Anna isn’t that ‘Camp’ either. I thought that this iridescent sequin embroidered tweed Chanel Spring 2019 Couture tea length gown which features a blush and lavender feather bodice was the perfect balance of camp style and feminine glamour for Anna to wear on this red carpet. It is just extra enough without being too overdone for Anna. Her signature bob, defined eyes, soft pink lips, her signature Chanel sunglasses, a pair of blush satin Manolo Blahnik ‘Leona’ crystal buckle embellished slingback pumps, and antique victorian Fred Leighton diamond chandelier earrings all would ensure this look is that epitome of classic glamour with that perfect hint of Camp.Aside from last year in Valentino Bee Shaffer has worn Alexander McQueen for every Met Gala since 2014. Bee wears a lot of Alexander McQueen when she isn’t walking those famous Met steps so I decided to pick a look for her to wear for this years gala. I watched the Alexander McQueen Fall 2019 RTW show and I saw so many major moments that could be Met Gala worthy. I decided to pick this amazing silver tinsel fringe column gown which features a high neck and long sleeves would be perfect for Bee. It is definitely got that avant garde spirit that I want to see all over this red carpet come the first Monday in May. I would want to see Bee as Sarah Burton, the creative director of Alexander McQueen, to add a super dramatic tinsel fringe detailed train to this look as it would add the drama I expect from a Met Gala gown already and am craving this year specifically for this years gala. A sleek updo, smokey eyes, red lips, a silver Alexander McQueen top handle metal clutch, and a pair of silver Jimmy Choo ‘Lilah’ strappy sandals all would let the gown be the focus of this absolutely amazing look.Harry Styles is the male celebrity co-chair of this years Met Gala. It has been a really long time since we have seen Harry out in public and I am ready to see him bring his swagger back to the red carpet. I am undoubtedly saying that when it comes to who Harry will wear on this red carpet that I have no doubts it will be Gucci. He has been a long standing relationship with the houses creative director Alessandro Michele. I imagine that Michele is conjuring up something amazing and custom for Harry, but since it is a lot harder to create a custom menswear look than it is to create a custom gown. So instead I decided to start looking through the menswear archives that he has sent down the runways I saw this mint and pink floral print Gucci Spring 2017 Menswear tuxedo which features floral embroidery on the shoulders and back and it was automatically shot to the top of my wishes for Harry to bring to life on this red carpet. On the runway this look was embroidered with an ‘L’ on the lapel. I would obviously like to see that changed to an ‘H’ if it were customized for Harry. It has been the year of Lady Gaga so far this year. She finally won an Oscar and now she is co-hosting this years Met Gala. Honestly the theme couldn’t be any more perfect for Gaga to chair. VOGUE UK talked about what Lady Gaga will wear for this years Met Gala and said “if you expect to see the singer in a frothy tulle confection with bows and embellishment aplenty courtesy of Gucci, the night’s sponsor, think again.” That got me even more excited. Now I was already thinking of shunning Gucci for Gaga. I decided to really go for it after reading those words so I picked this rainbow ruffled finale gown from the Tomo Koizumi Fall 2019 RTW collection which was modeled by the incomparable Gwendoline Christine. Not many people could make this gown come to life on or off a runway and given this years theme I definitely think that it is the perfect option for Gaga to bring to life on this red carpet. I could definitely imagine that Gaga would hide her standard 12+ inch high Pleaser platform boots, but I definitely think that a pair of black and white stripe Christian Louboutin ‘Lady Bug’ peep toe platform pumps which features PVC detail and multicolor dots would add another fun layer to this look. A sleek updo, rainbow smokey eyes, and red lips all would definitely make this the absolutely major moment I know Gaga will bring to this red carpet come to life. Now this gown is HUGE and perfect for the red carpet, but I definitely think that Gaga is very likely to have a wardrobe change inside the museum. I decided to dive deep into the Alexander McQueen archives for a perfect inside gown for Gaga to wear. This black and red sequin fringe and ombre feather Alexander McQueen Spring 2001 RTW asymmetrical sleeveless gown was featured in the Savage Beauty exhibit in 2011. There aren’t a whole lot of people who are able to pull an original Alexander McQueen gown out of the houses archives, but if anyone can it is definitely Lady Gaga. I would swap that sleek updo for something more vintage inspired and the rainbow eyes for a black glitter smokey eyes and the colorful Christian Louboutin’s with a pair of black Christian Louboutin ‘Rosie’ platform sandals to ensure this is another absolutely beautiful moment for Gaga to wear inside the Met Gala. While she may not be a co-chair of this years gala we have to know that the first lady of Kering Salma Hayek will definitely be on this red carpet next month. Gucci is sponsoring this years gala and while I tend not to like Salma in Gucci, but I am hoping that she brings the drama and glamour, in a really amazing way, on this red carpet. I had a lot of really great ideas for a lot of the custom Gucci gowns I have for regular members of the Gucci gang to wear on the red carpet at the Met Gala (which are sprinkled throughout all of my wishes), but I had the hardest time coming up with a gown that I thought would work for Salma. That is until I saw a ombre rainbow sequined Gucci interlocking G logo print sweatskirt online and had a spark of inspiration. I started with a strapless gown using those sequins with a dramatic train, then Evita (who does the editing of these images) came up with the idea of using a gold jewel embellished collar necklace from the Gucci Fall 2019 RTW collection and a rainbow sequined tulle gown to use for the back of the skirt and train and turned it all into this absolutely bold and dramatic moment for Salma to bring to life on this red carpet. Now typically my complaint about Gucci looks from Salma is that they are usually overcooked, but that is exactly what I think we are going to see on this red carpet. A sleek bouffant updo, smokey eyes, antique rose pink lips, and a pair of red, gold, and robins egg blue Gucci strappy platform sandals all would definitely add the perfect finishing touches to ensure that the gown is the centerpiece of this look and nothing is competing with it. As I was starting to ponder this theme back in October I was reflecting on ‘Camp’ as an idea and a lifestyle. At the same time it seemed like drag queens were popping up on the front rows of everything from up and coming fashion brands, established fashion houses, and coveted couture presentations. VOGUE UK online said “he contents of the exhibition will trace the origins of the subject from the 17th century, specifically the court of Versailles, to the present day.” Echoing sentiments that Queen of the Met Gala and VOGUE US editor-in-chief said at the press conference about the event in Milan. “Basically, we go from sun kings to drag queens,” Wintour said at that press conference in February. So I am really hoping that Anna invites a few of those Drag Queens to this years gala. Violet Chachki has walked the runway for Moschino, been front row at Prada, Mugler, Iris Van Herpen, and Miu Miu, been to all kinds of major fashion events. So when I was thinking of drag queens I want to see on this red carpet she was one of the first to come to mind. Violet has a 1940’s femme fatale burlesque vibe about her and I want to see her mix camp and that with her femme fatale style. So I turned to Prada and created a custom gown for her to rock that features an asymmetric shawl style sleeve tied into a bow on the back, the pop part Frankenstein and Bride of Frankenstein print, a fitted midi length column skirt, and a dramatic train over layer. The inspiration for this gown definitely came from different looks from the Prada Fall 2019 RTW collection and the gown was actually designed with the Prada red crystal ‘ruby slippers’ that debuted with this collection in mind to create it. I wanted to be able to showcase these shoes in this look which is why there is the midi length that exposes the ankle and foot. A 40’s pinup inspired updo, smokey eyes, bold Pat McGrath red glitter lips, and a pair of IVY New York ‘Cascada’ ruby and moonstone chandelier earrings all would ensure that Violet has an amazing high fashion meets drag queen moment on this red carpet.

The 2019 Met Gala will take place on the first Monday in May: May 6, 2019.

2018 Grammy Awards Red Carpet Wish List Part 5

Well with the 2018 Grammy Awards set to take place tomorrow night I have hit my final wish list for this years red carpet. I am really excited to see what everyone, both male and female, will bring to the red carpet. Today we have a bunch of wishes for stars who will be presenting at this years ceremony. The stars who are presenting have a really great spectrum of style and I am really interested in seeing what they all will bring to the red carpet tomorrow night. Kicking things off today is Anna Kendrick, who is coming off the release of the final installment of the Pitch Perfect trilogy last month. For the most part Anna kept a really low profile last year, and when she did step out on the red carpet I wasn’t a huge fan of the looks that she did wear. That was really disappointing for me because I know that she has the potential to make some really great moments on the red carpet. As a Grammy’s presenter in the past we haven’t seen Anna make waves with her style, and I don’t expect her to bring a major couture gown or even a gown at all to the red carpet tomorrow night. Instead I thought that this mauve Tom Ford silk sequined shift dress which features a tiered lace trim hem would be a good option for her to bring to the Grammy’s red carpet. I think that this simple, yet dazzling dress is exactly what a film star should wear as a presenter at the Grammy’s. It is simple and sexy, but with a dash of fun. I would have Anna wear her hair in full voluminous old Hollywood waves, a smokey, nude lips, a medium grey Tom Ford ‘T-Lock’ medium python tassel detailed clutch, a pair of black Stuart Weitzman ‘Nudistsong’ sandals, and an edgy black rhodium set Repossi diamond ear cuff to really make this look perfect for the Grammy Awards. Rapper Eve isn’t one that I feel we hear a lot about anymore. Back in the early 2000’s she was on Grammy red carpets wearing uber sexy micro mini dresses. Now her style has evolved to be more chic, but still really sexy and that is why I thought that this vibrant violet purple Hamel by Melinda Harris fitted gown which features a side split with illusion paneling and dramatic fringe would be a perfect look for Eve to wear on the Grammy’s red carpet. Hamel is a sexy brand that has been loved by Kate Beckinsale, Jennifer Lopez, and Laverne Cox but hasn’t had a major Grammy Awards moment yet and I do think that Eve in this gown would give that major moment that this gown deserves. I found a pair of purple satin Tom Ford pointed toe pumps that I think would compliment this gown perfectly. Add a sleek hairstyle, purple smokey eyes, light pink glossy lips, and a selection of Jacob & Co. jewels including a statement diamond drop earrings and an amethyst and diamond cocktail ring to really make this head to toe perfection.I picked some hot off the runway Chanel Couture for HAIM to wear on the Grammy Awards red carpet that I posted yesterday, but then it was announced that Hailee Steinfeld was going to be presenting and I decided that I would rather her bring Chanel Couture to the Grammy’s red carpet tomorrow night. I think that this silver and grey beaded Chanel Spring 2018 Couture sleeveless jumpsuit which features POCKETS would be a really great Grammy’s moment and that Hailee would really make it come to life on the red carpet. I won’t lie that Kristen Stewart was the first person that came to mind when I saw this jumpsuit on the runway, but I definitely think that Hailee would do this look just as much (if not more) justice on the red carpet. A sleek high ponytail, statement grey smokey eyes, a rose pink lip, silver Christian Louboutin ‘Follies Strass’ glitter and crystal embellished sandals, and a statement Messika diamond ear cuff all would make sure that Hailee shuts down this red carpet. As you know I have been throwing more menswear into my wish lists, and the men of music love to play with fashion. Harry Styles, who will present tomorrow night at the Grammy Awards, took three spots on my Best Dressed Men of 2017 list, and I am hoping that he will bring just as many moments to the red carpets this year as well. I would love to see Harry be the first to bring Givenchy Couture menswear to the red carpet. While I was watching the Givenchy Spring 2018 Couture show and I saw a male model make his entrance onto the runway I got REALLY excited. Couture has been a women’s game and I love that Clare Waight Keller was one of a small handful of designers to put menswear on a couture runway. I think that this blue and green embellished tuxedo jacket paired with black crocodile leather pants would look really great on Harry, especially for an event like the Grammy Awards. I would however swap the runways sheer shirt for a simple black Givenchy embellished collar button up (with two or three buttons undone.) Add a pair of black patent Givenchy ‘Cruz’ studded sole derby shoes and his signature tousled waves to really ensure that this look just screams glam rock.John Legend is another dude with great style and I am interested in seeing what he will wear on the Grammy red carpet tomorrow night. I already picked a really chic and sexy Cushnie et Ochs gown for his wife Chrissy Teigan to wear the other day and I wanted to make sure that his look complimented hers. I went for a bold tuxedo jacket with this black and white leopard print Tom Ford Spring 2018 Menswear sequin embellished tuxedo jacket which features black silk shawl lapels and cuffs. I definitely think that this is a great Grammy’s tuxedo, and with the black pants, white shirt, and black bow tie from the lookbook paired with a pair of black Louis Leeman leather woven loafers and a MontBlanc ‘Timewalker Chronograph 103094’ watch all would make this look a really major moment on the Grammy Awards red carpet. And last but not least is the beautiful Katie Holmes. Ever since her divorce from Tom Cruise we have see, Katie really make strides back to great style on the red carpet. In the last year she has had some really amazing fun with fashion and I am really excited to see what she will bring to the Grammy’s red carpet tomorrow night. Two years ago I never would have seen Katie take this black Valentino Pre-Fall 2018 mini dress which features gold polka dots and feathered sleeves wearing this dress, but I think that in the here and now that this would be a really fun and chic moment on the Grammy’s red carpet from her. I think that the dress is such a statement that I would just add a sleek hairstyle, bold red lips, simple black lined eyes, and a pair of black satin Valentino ‘PopFlowers’ beaded sandals to let the dress be the focus of this look.

The 2018 Grammy Awards will take place tomorrow Sunday January 28, 2018.

2018 AFI Awards Red Carpet Wish List Part 3

Today has been a busy race to kick off my 2018 award season wishes. I had originally only intended to do 2 sets of wishes for the 2018 AFI Awards, but when I saw how many glamorous women were in the ranks of this years honored films and television programs I knew I just had to add one more, and I wasn’t event able to fit all of them into these three! Of all of the award season events the AFI Awards are the most laid back being the only luncheon where awards are handed out. I am really hoping that all of the stars of the programs being honored at this year awards, on Friday January 5, 2018, to really help ensure that award season kicks off in such a major manner. Allison Williams has been working the hell out of the red carpet scene helping to campaign for award nominations for Get Out and has done so in such a glamorous way. While so far none of the nominations have specifically gone to Allison I am expecting that she will deliver a really great selection of looks over the course of award season to help campaign for the film anyway. For the AFI Awards I went for chic femininity for Allison with this ballerina pink ADEAM Spring 2018 RTW ensemble which features a scarf panel twist dress layered over a twist back knit sweater. Honestly Allison has always been one that really wows me when she goes really girly with her looks and I think that this would be such a chic moment on her. With her blonde locks in a loose updo, a daytime smokey eye, glossy nude lips, and a pair of rose pink Jimmy Choo ‘Saga’ wave trim pumps she would be the the epitome of feminine elegance.Emilia Clarke has kept a really low profile this year. She has attended a total of two events over the whole year and I am really hoping that she will return to the limelight next year and the AFI Awards, where Game of Thrones is being honored, would be the perfect place for her to make that return. Earlier this year Emilia was announced as the face of the Dolce & Gabbana fragrance The One, and as a brand ambassador one should expect to see her wearing a look from the brand. I did look at Dolce looks, but there honestly wasn’t a single look that I felt would be right for Emilia to wear for this event. So while I was looking for the perfect dress I came across this dark green trellis jacquard Emilia Wickstead Spring 2018 RTW dress which features rope-like straps with gold button hardware and a pleated full tea length skirt. This might be a little more formal than I normally expect from the AFI Awards red carpet, but I think that how it comes across would be mostly about how Emilia presents it. I think that with a loose wavy bob, neutral makeup, and a pair of hand painted floral Dolce & Gabbana mary jane pumps that Emilia would turn this into the perfect luncheon ensemble for the AFI Awards red carpet. With Dunkirk expecting several nominations over the course of award season I would think it is a safe bet that we will see Harry Styles on many of the red carpets this award season. After he took three of the ten spots on this years Best Dressed Men list I am really interested to see what he will bring over the course of award season. If he steps out for the more causal AFI Awards I think we will see one of the more bohemian and out there looks from the singer and actor. I think that Harry would take this yellow and purple paisley Etro Spring 2018 Menswear suit and matching knit collared henley would make for the perfect fun casual moment for Harry. Tousled locks and a pair of mustard suede Armando Cabral ‘Astor Luga’ derby shoes would really ensure that Harry oozes cool guy sex appeal on the AFI Awards red carpet. Insecure star Issa Rae loves color and print when it comes to her red carpet looks and I am praying that she brings major color moment to the AFI Awards red carpet. I think that this lemon yellow cotton poplin Prabal Gurung Spring 2018 RTW wrap front dress which dress features a scoop neckline, short sleeves, flared hem, side split, and a peplum detail at the waist would give that bright color moment that I am craving. While on January 5th most of the United States will be layering with sweaters and coats the LA weather will still call for summer wardrobe so this look would be the perfect thing to cheer those of us who will be braving the cold right up. I wanted to keep the color theme of this look going with the shoes, but wanted to do it in the chicest way possible. So if I were styling Issa in this dress I would hand her a pair of white Sophia Webster ‘Coco Crystal’ pumps which feature an embellished rainbow heel to really make this a beautiful moment.Mandy Moore has emerged as quite the fashionista over the course of the last year and I am really excited to see what she will bring to award season this year. I went or a very strong yet classic look for Mandy to wear for the AFI Awards, where her series This Is Us is being honored. I think that if Mandy stepped out on the red carpet at the AFI Awards luncheon wearing this navy blue Jason Wu Spring 2018 RTW sleeveless trench dress that she would just ooze modern glamour. I think that chic waves, a red lip, navy blue Givenchy ‘Antigona’ envelope clutch, and a pair of navy velvet, satin, and patent leather Giuseppe Zanotti ‘Veronica’ chunky heel platform sandals all would help ensure that modern glamour. Last but not least for today is Sarah Paulson who I would love to see step out on this red carpet to promote her latest film The Post, which is being honored. Sarah’s stylist Karla Welch has been all about putting her clients in vintage recently from Karlie Kloss to Tracee Ellis Ross to Kathryn Hahn. Of all of Karla’s clients one that vintage comes to mind rather often when I think of is Sarah Paulson so I thought why not put her in something vintage for the AFI Awards. When I saw this black vintage Chloé long sleeve dress by Karl Lagerfeld which features silver embellished arrows Sarah immediately sprung to mind and I think that going a little extra mile with this look. It is a little more cocktail than the usual look that would be worn for the AFI Awards red carpet, but I think that if anyone could make it work it is Sarah especially if she pairs it with a black Prada snakeskin box clutch and a pair of silver JAGGAR ‘Lane’ metallic leather sandals.

The 2018 AFI Awards will take place on Friday January 5, 2018.

2017 End of the Year Style Awards: Best Dressed Men of 2017

For the first time ever instead of giving the Best Dressed Man of the Year award to a single person I felt like there was enough variety in men’s fashion this year to warrant a whole Best Dressed Men of the Year list. While we still saw a lot of classic cut black and navy blue suits on the red carpet this year it seemed like guys decided that they were going to have more fun with fashion than ever before. I have long watched the menswear runways seeing great statement suits and jackets from the likes of Balmain, Dior, Gucci, Versace, and more wishing that men would really start to take risks on the red carpet. This year bold statement were on almost every major red carpet from the Grammy’s to the Oscar’s to the Met Gala. What started as a break from the norm in music fashion has now spread through the film and television world and I am super excited to see what 2018 will have in store for menswear on the red carpet. 1) Pharrell Williams in Chanel Spring 2009: Topping this the Best Dressed Men of 2017 is Pharrell Williams wearing a tuxedo from the Chanel Spring 2009 RTW collection. Every season Karl Lagerfeld shows a small handful of menswear looks on his ready-to-wear runways, but this is the first time that I can recall ever seeing one of the looks worn on a red carpet. Menswear isn’t exactly the first thing that comes to mind when I think of Chanel, but by digging into Karl’s archives and selecting this look necklaces and all for the Oscars red carpet was a bold choice, that still seemed perfectly appropriate. Yes it might be a black tail coat tuxedo, but the perfect fit and the fact that Pharrell stepped out of the standard box and made one of the more bigger statements on the Oscar’s red carpet this year.2) Harry Styles in custom Alexander McQueen: I have to say that this year was the first year that I have really appreciated what Harry Styles has worn on the red carpet. I think that has a lot to do with the fact that he finally cut and washed his hair. Harry wore a lot of really great suits this year, but when he stepped out on the red carpet for the Aria Awards in Australia wearing a custom purple printed Alexander McQueen double breasted suit with an unbuttoned shirt sans tie he just oozed modern man sex appeal to me. I personally had major suit ency when I saw Harry wearing this suit and while I personally wouldn’t wear the bronze square toe boots I think that they complimented Harry’s look perfectly.

3) Nick Jonas in Balmain Fall 2017: Nick Jonas was one of the first dudes this year to really make me consider putting a full best of menswear list when he wore this black Balmain Fall 2017 ensemble for the Grammy Awards. I might rail against guys wearing classic looks all the time when there are so many non-normative looks out there, but this black look is anything but basic. The gunmetal studded suede jacket just screams urban cowboy to me and Nick really owned this look.

4) Donald Glover in Gucci Made to Measure: Donald Glover worked a bevy of different colors and textures on the red carpet this year, but it was his bold purple Gucci Made to Measure tuxedo at the Emmy Awards that really caught my eye this year. The classic cut, perfectly fitted tuxedo probably wouldn’t have made this list had Donald worn it in black or navy, but this perfect shade of grape was so amazing that compared to other guys on this red carpet he really stood out. Purple was definitely one of the colors of the year and I think that this was a winning moment for Donald who ended up taking home two trophies at this years Emmy Awards. Menswear doesn’t have to be boring, even when you go for a classic cut. 5) Matthew Noszka in Ports 1961 Fall 2016: On this list people probably have absolutely no idea who Matthew Noszka is. Let me give you a little info. He is a male model who has fronted Versace campaigns and worked with every major brand and magazine. He attended the Daily Front Row’s 3rd Annual Fashion Los Angeles Awards wearing a dark green star printed Ports 1961 Fall 2016 tuxedo that fit the shrunken suit trend perfectly. Doing the perfect shrunken suit is incredibly difficult, so I have to give his tailor some major props for executing the details of the tailoring of this suit perfectly. Matthew took a very laid back approach to styling this look wearing black patent loafers sans socks, a crisp white unbuttoned shirt, and opting to go belt-less. Head to toe this look was total perfection.

6) Harry Styles in Givenchy: If I had only done a Best Dressed Man of 2017 post with one guy it would have been Harry Styles that took the award home. He had several really great moments in some of the hottest brands of the moment. For one of his performances during the 2017 Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show Harry channeled his inner Mick Jagger and rocked a baby blue Givenchy suit paired with a mint green button down. He showed us that while Adam Levine might have claimed to have to ‘moves like Jagger’ that Harry has Jagger’s swagger and this look was definitely one that stood out. This is how you do a colored suit that nod’s to 70’s style without looking like you are wearing a costume cut from Saturday Night Fever.

7) Chadwick Boseman in Bottega Veneta: Going tie-less was a huge trend this year. Guys opted to go bare neck which took one way to make their suits unique away. For many of the more laid back red carpets, edgy events, and casual events that wasn’t surprising, but when Chadwick Boseman stepped onto the red carpet at the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences Governor’s Awards tie-less that was a major risk. This is one of the red carpets where I would immediately think a bow tie is a requisite, but Chadwick opted to button his shirt all the way up instead letting his silk jacquard Bottega Veneta double breasted tuxedo be all the statement that this look needs. Going tie-less and opting for a visual tuxedo for a formal Academy red carpet was a big risk, but Chadwick really exuded masculine confidence which made this look perfection. 8) Dave Franco in Givenchy: Dave Franco wore a pretty standard black Givenchy single breasted suit for the AFI Fest premiere of The Disaster Artist, but what made this look interesting was the black and white abstract animal print shirt that he wore with it. Instead of opting for a printed suit or bold color Dave showed guys that you can have a bold fashion moment while still sticking to a more restricted style box.

9) Harry Styles in custom Gucci: Speaking of classic black suits the third and final look that Harry Styles had on this list a pretty classic look. This custom black Gucci double breasted suit is pretty much standard, but what really made this look for me is the way that it fit on Harry. I think that on most I would have immediately dismissed the loose fit, slouchy fit of the blazer, but the way Harry carried himself made this look feel anything but basic. He styled it in such a chic way too opting for oxblood red boots and an unbuttoned white shirt. It was the effortless sex appeal that he oozed that really added the perfect finishing touches to this very classic look.

10) Ansel Elgort in Tom Ford Spring 2018: Finishing out this list is Ansel Elgort who attended the Tom Ford Spring 2018 RTW presentation during New York Fashion Week wearing a tuxedo ensemble from the labels Spring 2018 menswear collection. The visual abstract printed blue silk tuxedo jacket was definitely one of the bolder pieces any star wore this year and I think that it looked really good on Ansel and while it was enough to land him on my Best Dressed Men of the Year List I still have some nit picky things that I think would have pushed him higher up this list. Had Ansel worn this jacket unbuttoned with a belt I think that he would have been pushed up at least 3-4 spots. The way the shirt peekaboo’s under the button gives me qualms. It makes it seem like the jacket doesn’t fit when it is seemingly perfect everywhere else. I think that for sitting front row if Ansel had gone the more undone smoking jacket route that this would have just read like an even bolder and sexy moment.

“Dunkirk” London Premiere Red Carpet Wish List

I went back and forth as to whether or not I was going to feature a wish list for the Dunkirk premiere in London. The film will hopefully bring out some of the best of menswear as there isn’t really a big female star, or even a starlet plus one, that will make this a big premiere for fashion. I think that with the crop of men who are in this film though that we have a pretty good chance at seeing some great Best of Menswear worthy looks on the red carpet. We know that when it comes to dressing that Harry Styles, who is making his film debut in Dunkirk, has little to no fear in his dressing. I wonder if Harry will be a risk taker on the red carpet at this premiere, just because of the serious nature of the subject of the film. I wonder if Harry will wear a more standard suit or tuxedo. While I have my reservations about going fully statement making for Harry to wear on the red carpet, I am still picking something that is extremely bold. The moment I saw this black and red rose printed Gucci Cruise 2018 suit which features wide black velvet trimmed lapels Harry came to mind and I think that for this premiere that he would definitely create the eye catching, conversation starting moment that we will be missing from a couture gown or amazing cocktail dress. I think that Harry would definitely wear the runways pussy bow blouse like top, but I think I would like to see him take this look and pair it with a crisp white tuxedo shirt and a black velvet bow tie. Tom Hardey is one sexy stud and I am sure that he will bring a very classic, but perfectly fit, look for the red carpet at the Dunkirk premiere in London on Thursday July 13, 2017. I think that this hot off the runway black pin stripe Dolce & Gabbana Spring 2018 Menswear double-breasted, three piece suit would be exactly what Tom would wear for this kind of premiere. The suit is nothing new. We have seen male stars in Hollywood wear black pinstripe suits on the red carpet for forever, but on Tom I know that it would be perfectly executed. The tailoring is really the key to any menswear look and Tom is always perfectly tailored when he steps out on the red carpet. Now I am not a huge fan of Tom’s current facial hair, but I would love to see it perfectly groomed for this red carpet appearance.

Will the men bring Best of Menswear list worthy looks to this premiere? With how many men who have history of impeccable dressing, I would say that the chances are quite high.
