2021 SAG Awards Red Carpet Wish List Part 3

“We’re looking at trying to do a unique award ceremony in an hour and leave people saying, which they very rarely do [with an awards show], ‘Man, I wish we had more,'” SAG Awards co-executive producer Todd Milliner told Variety about this years ceremony. That has me very intrigued. After taking a lot of time to find my inspiration to write wishes for this years event I’ve finally found it. While I am disappointed that this years show isn’t going to be live I am still excited to see what fashion the stars will bring to this show. Another of the producers for the show Kathy Connell said “We hope they [the nominees] respect the show enough and everybody does, and their fellow actors, that they don’t want to disappoint the audience at home by letting any surprises go.” So far this is true and it seems like even stylists are holding images of looks to release them when the red carpet would usually take place. For the Golden Globes Carey Mulligan rocked a draped white Prada column gown. I wasn’t thrilled with the fit of the gown and the look was lacking great hair and makeup. She kept a similar beauty look with a white satin suit for the Critics Choice Awards. It seems like white has been her color of choice this awards season so with that in mind for the SAG Awards I would love to see Carey bring something incredibly chic from head to toe to life. I found the perfect look for Carey in this vintage Chanel Couture ensemble which is a white short sleeve lace blouse, a black banded waist, and a white sequin diamond pattern embroidered a-line tea length organza skirt from the brands Spring 2001 Couture collection. I have been loving vintage Chanel in lieu of many of Virginie Viard’s collections and I believe that Carey would look absolutely phenomenal wearing this gorgeous gown. With a soft curly romantic updo, defined eyes, antique rose pink lips, a pair of white Jimmy Choo ‘Romy 85’ crystal trimmed pointed toe pumps, and antique Victorian white pearl and white diamond silver-upon-blacken gold drop earrings from London based vintage jewelry dealer Jewellery Discovery I know that Carey would have a phenomenal glamour moment on her hands. Kerry Washington hasn’t made any appearances this awards season, but with her Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Limited Series nomination at the SAG Awards I am praying that she ends up serving us a look. I looked at a lot of dresses and there wasn’t a whole lot that spoke to me. This black Iris Van Herpen Spring 2021 Couture high low strapless gown with a peplum train, mini underskirt, and intricate sequin embroidery was the gown that really spoke to me. I can’t say that Kerry is someone I would normally think of when looking at an Iris Van Herpen collection, but the moment I saw this dress I couldn’t help but shake the idea of Kerry bringing this gown to life. I’ve loved her looks since she’s worked with Law Roach and the two make magic together. It would be a super cool edgy glam moment and I believe that Kerry would absolutely be able to sell this gown to me. I would add a sleek side parted bob, defined eyes, dark red glossy lips, a pair of black Aquazzura ‘Moon Crystal’ crystal embellished ankle strap sandals, and a statement emerald and white diamond de Grisogono collar necklace to really make this a statement edgy glam moment for Kerry from head to toe.Leslie Odom Jr. has been showing up in some super cool fashion moments for award shows so far this season. He rocked hot off the runway Valentino Couture for the Golden Globe awards and Celine look from a collection we haven’t seen a lookbook from for the Critics Choice Awards. I am very excited to see what is last few stops along awards season including this weekends SAG Awards. I’ve always thought that Leslie in classic menswear styles with a twist. That is exactly what I found in the Tom Ford Fall 2021 Menswear collection. I adore this black leopard print tuxedo jacket styled with a silk button down shirt and black tuxedo trousers. It is a cool moment and I definitely believe that Leslie would be able to sell this look with ease. I would keep the styling rather simple finishing the look with a pair of black Christian Louboutin ‘Greggo Orlato Flat’ glittered velvet and patent leather oxfords. Nicole Kidman dress in her best custom Louis Vuitton for the Golden Globe Awards earlier this year to partake in the ceremony virtually with her family from their living room in Australia. I am very excited to see what she will wear for this weekends SAG Awards where she is nominated for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Limited Series. I had several options for what I would like to see Nicole wearing, but it was this black liquid sequin Giambattista Valli Fall 2021 RTW column gown which features a single sleeve, floral embellishment, and a bow detail on the shoulder that really spoke to me. I feel like it this gown is incredibly sleek and glamorous with a hint of sex appeal and Nicole would easily be able to make this look come to life on the red carpet. With this being a pre-recorded virtual event I know this simpler silhouette would be perfect for Nicole. A soft romantic updo, defined eyes, light pink lips, black crystal embellished mesh Rene Caovilla pointed toe slingback pumps, and a selection of jewels from Fred Leighton including a pair of Georgian pendeloque rose cut white diamond drop earrings, a pink spinel and white diamond cocktail ring, and a 1960’s Colombian emerald and white diamond cocktail ring would all tie this look up together in one glamorous package. Viola Davis has been loving bold prints lately. She’s rocked Lavie by CK for the Golden Globes, XulyBet for a recent appearance on Jimmy Fallon, and Duro Olowu for the NAACP Image Awards. Each one was statement making and bold. Never a look I would have expected to see from Viola and who knows if they are looks she would have chosen to wear had this been a regular year. I didn’t go the bold pattern for my SAG Awards wishes I really wanted to see Viola wearing this teal chiffon Elie Saab Fall 2021 RTW a-line flowing gown with a sweetheart crystal halter neckline, ruched bodice, and a crystal waist. I saw this gown and knew immediately it was perfect for Viola. It was the first gown I picked for my SAG Awards wishes. It was actually the thought of not putting this wish into the universe that kept me coming back to look at my wishes and persevering to make sure I got them up. To make this a perfect red carpet moment I would love to see Viola style this gown with a teased afro hairstyle, smokey eyes, deep burgundy glossy lips, a silver crystal embellished Judith Leiber Couture slim faceted rectangle clutch, a pair of strappy silver Casadei ankle strap platform sandals, and selection of Thelma West jewels including simple white diamond drop earrings and a statement white diamond cushion cut cocktail ring.

The 2021 SAG Awards special will broadcast on Sunday April 4, 2021. You can see all my wishes for this years show here.

2021 Golden Globe Awards Red Carpet Wish List Part 15

Well. The 2021 Golden Globe Awards are tomorrow night. In a normal world there would be a ballroom packed full of stars, but well COVID has killed that for all of awards season this year. So instead of writing about the stars who are part of the casts of films and television programs that are nominated, plus ones, and people whom I would usually expect to see on this red carpet I thought I would just put a gallery of wishes together. So as the words to “Audition” from LA LA Land goes “Here’s to the fools who dream, foolish as they may seem.”

Dream Inaugural Ball for President Joe Biden Red Carpet Wish List Part 2

In the state of the world we live in with the COVID-19 virus and all of the political unrest what more have we than to dream of better days? I think that’s what has kept be going through the last year. With so many events cancelled and minimal press tours, no galas, and a lack of glamour I have been continuing to dream through these wishes. So that is what I am going to keep doing today with seven more wishes for looks I would have liked to see at my dream Inaugural Ball to celebrate the start of the term of President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris. I’ve always loved paying attention to political fashion and inauguration day has always brought some very interesting looks. So let’s see what looks I would have liked to see the people featured in today’s wishes wear shall we? Kicking things off today is Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. When it comes to the politics of fashion I have long been intrigued by AOC. She has talked many times about how she doesn’t want to be the person dressed by all of the top designers. Many of her looks are purchased via thrifting and sales. So I did the same for all the looks I picked for her to wear for the inauguration. While I went more expensive with her look to wear for the inaugural ceremony, the look I’ve picked for AOC to wear for the inaugural ball cost less that $500 all in. The centerpiece of the look is a purple Zac Posen asymmetric sleeveless gown with a  scoop neck and embellishments throughout the bodice and down the hips. I love this gown and it is definitely a signature draped moment from the House of Zac Posen, which I miss so much. This gown when originally purchased was most likely over $1,000 probably over $2,000. It arrived on The Real Real for $545 and is now on sale for 80% off that price and is now just $109, a real steal. I can definitely imagine this gown hugging Alexandria’s fantastic figure beautifully. To make this look full glamour head to toe I would have her style it with a sleek vintage inspired updo, defined eyes, bold red lips, a gold Nina metallic foil crystal trimmed minaudiere ($62.50), a pair of black glitter Stuart Weitzman platform sandals ($144), and Miguel Ases ‘Cape’ amethyst 3-drop flower chandelier earrings ($127.80). On the eve of the election Chrissy Teigan & John Legend flew from their home in California to assist Joe Biden in campaigning in Pennsylvania, a state that ultimately served Joe Biden with the electoral victory. John will also be performing in a television special celebrating the inauguration. So with that in mind it makes total sense that they would have been included on the guest list for one of the inaugural balls. I love seeing these two together on the red carpet. Just to stand in the crowd while John performed at the Pennsylvania rally Chrissy donned couture so I know she would have served a look for an inaugural ball. I would have loved to see her go for sexy goddess glamour with this white asymmetrical LBV Spring 2021 RTW draped gown with a high split. If anyone could make this look really come to life it would be Chrissy. I would go with a sleek updo, defined eyes, bright pink lips, a pair of white crystal embellished Gianvito Rossi ‘Glam’ ankle strap sandals, and and a pair of dazzling floral white diamond Butani drop earrings to really make this look scream glamour. For John I wanted to break up the sea of classic penguin suits instead opting to see him wearing this black, white, and pink floral embroidered Tom Ford Fall 2020 RTW collection tuxedo. Now while the runway’s styling isn’t what I would do instead opting for more classic with a white tuxedo shirt, classic black satin striped tuxedo pants, a black bow tie, and black patent leather Christian Louboutin ‘Corteo Flat’ oxfords. It would definitely make these two look like a major power couple, of course which they are. Elizabeth Banks is a huge advocate for women’s rights and has worked closely with the Democratic Party for years. On election night the actress, director, and advocate tweeted “I’m so so so relieved. Congrats to @JoeBiden I am crying at the thought of @KamalaHarris as Vice President of the United States – wow wow wow.” I feel like Elizabeth would definitely have been seen on Inauguration night attending one of the balls and I would have expected to see her do so in very glamorous fashion. I would have loved to see her bring a true ball gown to life with this charcoal silk satin Bibhu Mohapatra Fall 2020 RTW halter ball gown which features intricate silver sequined embroidery. I think that this look screams glamour and Elizabeth would have worn it with effortless ease. A sleek side parted low bun updo, defined eyes, rose pink lips, a pair of black suede Jimmy Choo ‘Emsy 100’ crystal embroidered peep toe cross strap sandals, and Kwiat ‘Eclipse’ diamond wreath earrings would definitely make sure this look exudes glamour from head to toe. At the onset of planning these wishes one look I knew immediately what I wanted to do was for Kerry Washington. She was one of the few who actually braved the pandemic and went out for in person events as a surrogate for the Biden campaign. With that and the knowledge that Kerry will be a part of the “Celebrate America” inauguration night television special I would have expected to see Kerry bring a super glamorous moment to life had there been an inaugural ball. Immediately I thought of putting Kerry in this black liquid sequin jersey Marc Jacobs Fall 2020 RTW scoop neck column gown. It was inspired by the iconic designs of Norman Norrell in the 1960’s and I couldn’t imagine a more perfect gown for Kerry to wear for this occasion. It isn’t dramatic, but all about glamour. She would be able to walk through all of the parties schmoozing with the political elite with effortless ease. A sleek center parted bob, defined smokey eyes, bold red lips, a black Miu Miu ‘Ayers’ crystal studded leather clutch, a pair of black mesh Christian Louboutin ‘Mariacar 120’ peep to cross strap d’Orsay pumps, and a statement white diamond Tiffany & Co. ‘Schlumberger® Stars and Moons’ necklace to really bring the glamour of this look to full capacity. Lady Gaga will be performing at the Inauguration Ceremony, so I would have definitely expected to see her make a wardrobe change and attend one of the balls had there been any. While I did decide to pick looks from American designers for almost all of my wishes for what could have been should there have been an Inaugural Ball, but I just couldn’t find a look from an American designer worthy of Gaga’s dramatic sensibilities. So I turned to French Haute Couture. This electric blue Stephane Rolland Spring 2020 Couture “Half Moon” duchess satin gown which features one long sleeve, strong shoulder detail, a silver crystal embellished detail on the bodice, a draped tulip skirt, center split, and a LONG dramatic train is a major moment and one that only a few would be able to sell to me on the red carpet. Lady Gaga is one of them. I know that she would wear this gown with ease while delivering it as the statement drama moment it was intended. I would have styled Gaga with the runways silver platform pumps, thick defined eyes, bold red lips, a retro glam updo, and a pair of statement surrealist inspired white diamond and sapphire de Grisogono drop earrings to make this an absolutely phenomenal fashion moment. The final look for today is for Tracee Ellis Ross who was one of the four ladies who helped host the 2020 Democratic National Convention. I have always loved Tracee and her style. She works with Hollywood power stylist Karla Welch (who according to Moore in LA will be working with Madame Vice President Kamala Harris for the inauguration) and they always make magic together. I would have loved to see Tracee give us some 60’s hostess glamour wearing this salmon pink chiffon Brandon Maxwell Fall 2020 RTW chiffon caped gown with a pussy bow detail at the neck. It is super glamorous moment and I know that if anyone could really bring it to life on a red carpet it would be Tracee. I would add a sleek 60’s retro inspired updo, defined eyes, deep berry lips, a gold metal Jimmy Choo ‘Cloud’ 3D flower embellished clutch, a pair of gold Jimmy Choo ‘

10 Best Collections of Spring 2021 – Versace

I had to take a break from my 10 Best series to give you detailed wishes into some of the big red carpet events including the People’s Choice Awards and the American Music Awards. It let me ruminate and make sure that the last 3 collections I featured in this series were really worthy. I was able to watch the Versace Spring 2021 RTW show live from my phone while taking a break from work and I remember sitting on a high. It made me want to go under the sea and party with Donatella and her major crop of starfish embellished supermodels. In her tenure as the head of Versace since her brother’s death Donatella spent almost 2 decades continuing to define the Versace woman (and man) and in more recent collections seems to be enjoying playing in her brothers archives to inspire her collections. The Versace Spring 2021 RTW collection was inspired heavily by the starfish, coral, and seashell motifs that Gianni used for his Spring 1992 ‘Tresor de la Mer” collection. In one way or another each look that came down this runway had some sort of aquatic inspiration almost all done in bold neons. Versace has never been a brand for the faint of heart. This collection is no different. In fact I feel like even the woman whose been parading around in the black and gold baroque prints for the last couple of seasons will have to evaluate if they are ready to rock these looks. I appreciate that in a season where designers scaled back. Where they didn’t show as much evening and cocktail wear. Where they played it safe. That Donatella said fuck that and had A LOT of fun with this collection. Now of course I feel like this collection will be highly coveted for stars to bring to life on the red carpet. If you’ve been following you will see that I’ve already used looks from this collection for wishes for Maluma, Doja Cat, and Dan Levy in wish lists. Those are 3 of my favorite looks that came down the runway, but since there were so many looks that deserve red carpet moments out of this collection I decided that I wasn’t going to include those looks in this list you can read about them in each of their respective posts. Below you are going to find six major moments for the sidewalk runway, the red carpet, and the talk show circuit and who I would love to see bring this collection to life. Don’t worry though there are so many major moments in this collection that I am sure that we will be seeing it a lot in future wishes too.  It’s been a really long time since Rihanna has walked a red carpet, but she has made a lot of smaller appearances to promote her Fenty Beauty line as well as major street style moments. So when I was imagining her wearing this electric blue, hot pink, and bright green colored blocked Versace Spring 2021 RTW fully pleated plisse tank dress which features a slim fit, sleeveless, scoop neck, built-in bra, and a ruffled midi hemline I thought it could be a really cool moment for a more “casual” moment for Rihanna. Even when she is giving her street style I always find that Rihanna is ON. So this dress would be a great option. If she were to give us this dress in NYC this winter I would love to see Rihanna style the look with sleek center parted hair, smokey eyes, bold ‘Vivid Pink’ Fenty Beauty stunna lip paint lips, a hot pink Yves Salomon lambskin fur coat, a shamrock green Hermes ‘Kelly Ghillies 35’ top handle bag, the hot pink ‘Ribbon Rope’ crystal embellished satin ribbon tie sandals from her latest Fenty x Amina Muaddi collab, and blue Fenty ‘Centerfold’ shield sunglasses. It would be a MAJOR statement street style moment for sure.

Versace has been a part of Blake Lively’s red carpet history since the beginning. Blake wears Versace so well so it should come as no surprise that I pictured her wearing this collection on the red carpet at all. Given how she is known for look after look when she gives a promo tour I could definitely imagine this bright banana yellow Versace ruffled trimmed crepe midi dress which features a pink satin lining on the hem, a slim fit, trumpet silhouette, scoop neck, and gold-tone hardware being a great look for her to wear during one of those guerilla style weeks. It would hug all of Blake’s famous curves really giving her a major bombshell moment. I would run with that idea removing the black bra the look was styled with on the runway and adding glamorous old Hollywood waves, defined eyes, soft pink lips, a pair of rose pink suede Christian Louboutin ‘Rose Amelie’ ankle tie strappy sandals, and multicolored precious stone green, blue, and pink statement Lorraine Schwartz pendant drop earrings. Hailee Steinfeld is another who knows how to rock a good Versace moment on the red carpet. Seeing these major printed ruffled high low skirts that came down the runway were among some of my favorite moments. I adored them and feel like it would be a fun flamenco moment. The black off the shoulder cutout bodice of this look which reminds me of a bra and cardigan styled in a 90’s grunge manner balances the drama of the skirt. I feel like Hailee could rock this look for a music awards show with a sleek high ponytail, defined light smokey eyes, bright pink lips, black crystal embellished Casadei ‘Blade Venus Planet’ ankle cuff sandals, and a pair of dazzling Hueb ‘Luminus’ white diamond cluster earrings.

Doja Cat popped into my mind multiple times as I watched this collection come down the runway. She has been rocking some chic Versace moments recently and I really want to see her bring this collection to life I feel like should the Roc Nation Pre-Grammy’s brunch happen ahead of the Grammy’s next year I feel like this pleated plisse sea printed mini dress which features bold rounded shoulders, a square neckline with contrast green ruffles, and a ruffled hem would be a perfect look for her to bring to life on the red carpet. A sleek center parted long pink hairstyle, thick defined eyes, hot pink lips, a light pink L’Afshar ‘Eva’ crushed ice acrylic top handle minaudiere, a pair of gold metallic snakeskin Versace ‘Medusa’ platform ankle strap sandals, and simple 18k gold set Fernando Jorge ‘Electric Spark’ emerald stud earrings would definitely make it a super cute moment for Doja. Kerry Washington in bold color is one of my favorite things. She tends to stick to more of a subdued palate, but I would love to see her on the stage of Jimmy Fallon wearing this ensemble which features a bright green asymmetric linen-blend blazer, bright orange mini skort, and a stripped knit top. It is such a fun and flirty moment and and I just know that Kerry would be phenomenal in this moment. A ponytail of braids, defined eyes, bright pink lips, and a pair of yellow satin Jimmy Choo ‘Love 100’ pointed toe crystal embellished pumps to really make this a bold colorful moment for Kerry.

My final wish for this list is for Ariana Grande. I have been loving that she is giving a more grown up approach to dressing, but still on brand for the super frothy and sugary sweet looks we have come to know from Ariana’s sense of style. This babydoll dress which features a crystal embellished empire waisted bralet, a cornflower and yellow mini skirt with a flounced hem is exactly that perfect meshing of sex appeal and sugary glam for Ariana. I would definitely love to see Ari wearing this look with her signature high pony, thick winged eyes, punchy pink lips, a pair of silver Gianvito Rossi ‘Dynasty’ fringe detailed strappy leather sandals, and simple yet dazzling white diamond Messika ‘Love Drop’ earrings.

10 Best Collections of Spring 2021 – Lanvin

When Bruno Sialelli took over the helm of Lanvin last year I was less than impressed with his debut. I think part of this is due to the fact that I hadn’t been able to really love Lanvin since Alber Elbaz left in 2015. He did slowly start to pique my interest with this Spring 2020 RTW collection and I was definitely on board with his Fall 2020 RTW collection. Now I am full steam ahead in my love for the brand after seeing his Spring 2021 collection. In this collection I saw references to things learned from Sialelli’s past. Prior to taking the helm at Lanvin he had held senior positions at Paco Rabanne, Acne Studios, and Balenciaga under both Nicolas Ghesquière and Alexander Wang. We also saw a distinct not to Chinese style, which we can most likely attribute to the fact that Chinese conglomerate Fosun International. Part of this catering was forgoing the brands usual perch on the Paris Fashion Week circuit instead opting to show an in person presentation at the historic Yu Garden in Shanghai. “We can do a proper event there with hundreds of people,” Bruno Sialelli said to Vogue during a preview in Paris. “And to be very pragmatic, this is the market that is going to drive growth in luxury in general. It’s good for us to federate our community there.”The collection spanned eras of the Lanvin label starting with a series of Jeanne Lanvin’s robe de style. This is a drop-waist silhouette she loosely revived from the 19th century which features full hips. It moved through the 30’s and 40’s inspiration and then skipped the 50’s and right into the 60’s. It was an absolutely beautiful collection. From pieces that can be infused into the everyday, one of my favorites being a black cardigan emblazoned with a crystal embellished Trompe-l’œil bow across the chest. It was presented very formally with a robe de style inspired skirt. I could see someone purchasing this to wear with jeans for the everyday. Now there was no shortage of looks that are ready for the moment red carpets return to us. Find out eight of the looks I would like to see stars bring to life on red carpets, even virtually if we must. The first look in the collection, a black with a crystal bow across the hip—was virtually a replica of its 1920s original. “I like the idea of re-edition. But we’ve never seen this dress in real life, we’ve never tried it on. It belongs to the Galliera. I like to look at iconography and feel what it is and just do something out of it that’s modern,” Sialelli explained. It has been almost a century since the originals were first presented and sold. Now I feel like these new interpretations feel just as innovative and modern as they did back then. I feel like this is the kind of look I am craving to see from Natalie Portman. She used to wear quite a bit of Lanvin, even after she was under her Dior contract. Now this look would be made absolutely perfect for Natalie with a sleek low bun updo, defined eyes, bold matte red lips, a pair of black Christian Dior ‘Sweet-F’ floral motif embroidered tulle slingback pointed toe bow detailed pumps, and Nikos Koulis ‘Oui’ collection art deco inspired white gold pendant drop earrings with white diamonds and black enamel.

As I was watching the video from this collection I found myself saying oooooo that would be a great look for Fan Bingbing over and over again. The Chinese superstar is a true fashionista and I know that she would definitely be drawn to many of the looks that Bruno Sialelli sent down this runway. She knows how to deliver major “costume-y” moments on the red carpet, but in a way that doesn’t make me feel like she is attending a costume party. Many of the looks in this collection, especially the robe de style gowns, have the potential to be more costume like than modern. I would love to see Fan bring this look which features a quilted black a-line tea length skirt, a silver Trompe-l’œil beaded bow on the neckline, and a rose pink satin hip length opera coat to life. While the look does seem very stuck in days gone by the glamour is undeniable and if Fan knows how to deliver anything it is undeniable glamour. With a 40’s inspired Victory roll updo, winged defined cat eyes, bold deep red matte lips, a rose pink While the collection was opened with those very cut and dry historical re-issues there were also plenty of looks that ran the gambit of reference. I was drawn to the soft, feminine glamour of this blush pink chiffon draped wrap gown which features a floral print. The soft glamour isn’t as unapologetic as the robe de style looks, but I feel like for more of a laid back formal event that stars could be fighting for this gown. I immediately imagined it being worn by Evan Rachel Wood. Her gorgeous red hair styled in a loose romantic updo, soft bronze defined eyes, deep berry matte lips, a champagne gold Judith Leiber ‘Enchanted’ chain handle bag, a pair of nude Aquazzura ‘Vera’ silver crystal embellished strappy sandals, and Bulgari 18k gold set white diamond and ruby sunburst drop earrings would push this look over the ledge in terms of major glamour for Evan to bring to the red carpet.

The collection was also full of fantastic tailoring moments. I was drawn to the beige reinterpretation of the suit that included a double breasted oversized shawl lapel blazer which was styled with contrasting being button down with a sequined Trompe-l’œil beaded pussy bow, and high waisted shorts that was actually shown on a male model. I would definitely rock this look if I was headed to sit front row at a Lanvin show, but I also saw Julia Roberts immediately pop into my head when I saw this look. We saw this look in both the beige I am showing here, but also in black. I could see Julia wearing both, but I tire of seeing her in black looks so I definitely think that this beige look would be a great light moment for Julia. It could be dressed up with a romantic updo, soft bronze smokey eyes, antique rose pink matte lips, a nude marbled acrylic Edie Parker ‘Jean Solid’ clutch, a pair of tone on tone beige Aquazzura ‘Seine 105’ pointed toe pumps, and Mateo NY 14kt gold single pearl and white diamond drop earrings for more of a cocktail event or letting the hair down into loose waves, swapping for a nude glossy lip, and leaving the bag at home for a late night talk show appearance. Another great look that could be worn for more of casual or cocktail appearance is this gold silk pant set which features a chinoiserie inspired asymmetrical button down blouse with a chic metallic thread Koi fish embroidered paired with a v-banded wide leg pants. I could see Nicole Kidman rocking this look with sleek center parted hairstyle, defined eyes, rose pink lips, a pair of nude Aquazzura ‘Deneuve 105’ bow detailed pointed toe pumps, and a simple bit of sparkle via signed Fred Leighton contemporary floral cluster drop earrings with old mine cushion cut white diamonds.

I mentioned earlier that we saw a lot of reference to labels that Bruno Sialelli had previously worked at in this collection. One of the most evident was the red metal disc detailed looks reminiscent of the signature style from Paco Rabanne. They stood out like a sore thumb in the collection, but in a good way. While they didn’t exactly flow they were good looks. The gown (which you can see way above) to the skirt paired with a chic sweater it was a bold look I could see selling to some of the chicest women in the world. I thought about featuring the gown itself in these wishes, but given the more laid back times we live in I was really drawn to the skirt and sweater combination. I would LOVE to see Tessa Thompson, who has worn a couple looks from Lanvin by Sialelli since he’s taken the reigns, bring this look to life. It could be a great awards show from home look styled with a high long thick braid ponytail, thick defined eyes, matte nude lips, a pair of red crystal embellished Aquazzura ‘Tequila 105’ strappy sandals, and simple Anabela Chan ruby cushion wing stud earrings. There were so many fabulous looks in this collection I could have gone on and on in this review. Unfortunately I didn’t have the time to do so. I wanted to finish out by going back to the robe de style looks that opened the show once again. Out of any looks in the collection I feel these gowns have the most major red carpet potential. I just hope that while they are all similar that if, and when, one is worn that stars will wear other iterations. One that was different than the others was the steel grey and blush iteration which features a steel grey beaded lattice tank bodice with a plunging v-neckline and a blush tiered high low tea length a-line skirt. It paid homage to the originals from the 1920’s but felt very modern at the same time. Thinking about this major interpenetration on the red carpet the first person I would love to see it worn by is Kerry Washington. She knows how to deliver extreme glamour with an edge. To make this the major red carpet moment I would love to see Kerry style this look with a short pixie cut hairstyle, smokey eyes, deep red glossy lips, a pair of zinc silver Casadei ‘Blade Modern Love’ metallic laminated naplak leather and PVC detailed pointed toe strappy d’Orsay pumps, and a major selection of vintage jewels from Fred Leighton including old mine and old European cut white diamond antique drop earrings and a stack of signed old European cut white diamond and rose-cut white diamond bangles. It would be the perfect balance of dazzling glamour and edge.

My final wish is for the gorgeous Elle Fanning to wear the butter yellow tea length gown which features a halter neck on an illusion panel, drop waist, and beaded Trompe-l’œil  bow. I can definitely picture Elle delivering this gown as the soft princess moment that it most definitely is. She knows how to handle these soft princess moments with regal ease. A sleek high big bun updo, thick defined eyes, bright pink lips, soft matching yellow Alevi ankle tie knotted sandals, and a selection of simple yet dazzling Tiffany & Co. jewels including white and yellow cushion cut drop earrings, a selection of white and yellow diamond bangle bracelets, a vintage white and yellow diamond flower ring, and a Schlumberger ‘Daisy’ white diamond and yellow band ring would all make this a major moment for Elle.

10 Best Collections of Spring 2021 – Christopher John Rogers

In the official “Fashion Month” line up Christopher John Rogers swooped in and presented one of my favorite collections of the season. He decided not to show in he well earned perch on the schedule during New York Fashion Week, but it was well worth the wait. He won the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Award last year and the CFDA Emerging Designer of the Year award this year. I have been captivated with every collection CJR has presented, and this was no different. He LOVES drama and color. That was on display this season for sure. In a Zoom interview with VOGUE Runway’s Janelle Okwodu he said “Part of the reason why the collections have been so well-received is that they’ve been quite visceral in terms of the way they were conceived. [Our team] has been like, ‘This feels exciting, we enjoy this’ instead of investigating why.” I feel like this is what designers really should do. I was just talking with friends about how commercialized many of the biggest houses are. They have a formula that they know sells and even houses like Alexander McQueen who hold avant garde creativity at their core seem to have become redundant. Christopher John Rogers does not. Each season seems like a new experiment in the codes that he has set for his house. Drama, color, femininity, and structure. These are the core of what CJR is all about and this season delivered exactly that in a way we haven’t seen from him yet. He embraced abstract pattern and a myriad of bold primary colors this season. “I was away for four months and couldn’t do anything physical with my hands, so I just bought crayons and color pencils and started scribbling like I was a kid,” Rogers said to VOGUE Runway. “I wasn’t trying to create anything specific; I just wanted to have fun and express myself. It’s about getting back to the way children see the world through very simple shapes. They put energy on the page when they draw, so this was about simplifying and translating that energy into the clothes.”  The colors and patterns elevated basics that I definitely think will sell. The more glamorous and red carpet worthy looks are AMAZING as well. There is a lot of red carpet potential in these looks. So continue to read to find out who I want to see bringing this collection to life out of the lookbook and on the red carpet. Mixing bold floral pattern with a padded tulip hip skirt this thin strap tea length gown is definitely one of the best looks from this collection. It did immediately make me think of a Rosie Assoulin Spring 2017 gown that was worn by Naomie Harris; mostly because of the fluorescent floral pattern and the hips. Now this look is far from easy to pull off. I would love to task the gorgeous Kerry Washington with bringing this look to life on a red carpet. I feel like she has the presence to really make this look work. With a sleek cropped center parted bob, defined eyes, deep red glossy lips, a blush satin Jimmy Choo ‘Cloud’ pearl flower embellished frame box clutch, a pair of gold Jimmy Choo ‘Tesca 100’ strappy sandals, and glamorous MATEO New York 14k gold and white pearl curve form drop earrings this look would be absolutely MAJOR.

Now while pattern and texture is a hallmark of this collection there were some really good solid colored pieces as well. One of them was this traffic stopping orange strapless gown which features a column front and a draped cape back. Orange is such a bold color to wear anytime of day, but especially for evening. There are only a handful of orange red carpet looks I love, but I can imagine that his is going to be a major red carpet moment when it gets worn. I would love to see Danai Gurira be the person who brings this look out of the lookbook and onto the red carpet. She knows how to handle drama and color and I can just imagine how good this look would be. I would style this look with a major sculpted updo, smokey eyes, glossy nude lips, a pair of matching orange Giuseppe Zanotti ‘Neyla’ ankle strap sandals, and a MAJOR exquisite necklace of undulated design, with emeralds, diamonds, and pearls, the central emerald weighing 4.5 carats, while the diamonds 25 carats total, mounted on 18kt yellow gold. Made in Italy, circa 1965 sourced from vintage jewelry dealer Eleuteri. Not all of Christopher John Rogers gowns are all about unapologetic glamour and drama. Sometimes they evoke more a laid back causal vibe, but they always make a statement. Case and point? This camisole slip gown which is sand colored from the front, but explodes into a color-blocked rainbow in the back. Now this gown isn’t something I would expect to see on a major awards season red carpet, but I feel like Gabrielle Union would definitely rock it for a gala fundraiser. I took inspiration from the laid back vibe of the look for the styling. I would love to see Gabrielle rock the red carpet in this gown styled with a big high bun of braids, defined eyes, deep burgundy glossy lips, a pair of black and brown Brother Vellies ‘Midnight Woven Olivia’ chain detail ankle strap pumps, and statement 18K Rose Gold set Fernando Jorge ‘Comet’ waterfall earrings made up of white diamonds and lapis lazuli.

I was looking at this sand quilted silk strapless tulip skirt tea length gown I couldn’t get Zendaya out of my head. I would have just gone on with using her as the pick, but the shape is so similar to the Christopher John Rogers gown that she wore for the Emmy’s last month I wanted to branch out. I was obsessed with this look as it was one of the tame-er looks from this collection and I feel like Anya Taylor Joy would take this gown and really deliver it on a red carpet. I feel like in the line up of stars I’ve picked to wear this collection that Anya stands out for sure, but I feel like she has the presence to really make this gown come to life. Style it with a loose romantic updo, defined eyes, soft pink glossy lips, a pair of light gold crystal embellished Sophia Webster ‘Giovanna’ cross strap slingback sandals, and a statement Bulgari ‘Barocko’ collection white diamond and multicolored precious stone necklace for a pop of color and I know that this could be one of the best Christopher John Rogers red carpet moments ever.Tessa Thompson was wearing Christopher John Rogers before he was cool. Since he hit the mainstream we haven’t seen Tessa rock a look from his collections. I want that to change. I cannot recall Tessa ever giving us a big princess moment on the red carpet, so why not ask her to give it to us wearing this black ballgown with bright neon piping detail all over the bodice. I feel like this look is a very modern take on the ballgown and that is what I think would make it such a cool look for Tessa to rock on the red carpet. I would go left with the styling opting for a half up and down braided hairstyle, defined eyes, nude lips, a pair of black croc chunky platform Christian Louboutin ‘Foolish’ sandals, and a statement rainbow ombre Pomellato ‘Gourmette Caméléon’ chain choker made of a list of precious and semi precious stones to long to go through. It would definitely be a super cool moment for her to bring to life.

Now I had to put this wish into the universe to finish out this review. The moment I saw this neon color-blocked knit catsuit with bullseye detail on the breast my mind immediately went to Cardi B. I could see her rocking this with a matching fur coat for street style or on its own as a performance ensemble. I know the looks is something she would be drawn to and I would love to see her rock this with custom mismatched orange and yellow Christian Louboutin ‘Round Chick Alta 120’ platform peep toe half d’Orsay ankle strap pumps, long sleek center parted locks, crazy nails done in matching colors, defined smokey eyes, and bold red lips. What do you think about this collection? Who would you like to see bring looks from this collection to life on the red carpet?

2020 Emmy Awards Red Carpet Wish List

Well, I was SWAMPED with my actual job lately and I’ve been neglecting If I Was A Stylist as a result. That means that even though I had 14 posts planned for the 2020 Emmy Awards, which take place tonight, all I was able to do is this all in gallery for the nominees, presenters, and cast members of nominated projects. I am really interested to see how the Emmy’s will work from home with production kits sent to over 130 different locations. How will the fashion fare? We saw the fashion factor happen for the VMA’s and then Venice Film Festival actually happened in person and I was THRILLED. So in my wishes for this years event I’ve pulled looks hot off the runway this past week during NYFW, things shown seasons ago, as well as several looks I would love to see stars pull out of their archives and give another go. So check out my 54 wishes below and let me know which ones you would most like to see come true.

Christian Dior Fall 2020 Couture Red Carpet Wish List

Its been over two weeks since the Christian Dior Fall 2020 Couture collection was presented. I am still obsessed. This was one of the few collections that I actually reviewed and you can read my full review of the collection here. I am honestly surprised by just how many looks from this collection I would love to see brought to life on the red carpet. Just when I was getting ready to give up on Maria Grazia Chiuri I fell in love with her creations amidst a global pandemic. 2020 is really something. So below check out my wishes to see the collection come to life on the red carpets in addition to the looks I mentioned for Charlize Theron, Kerry Washington, Ava DuVernay, & Sonam Kapoor in my review.

2020 Met Gala Red Carpet Wish List Part 26

The inspiration for the 5 looks in today’s wishes spans a whole gambit from the 18th century pannier to 60’s high society to Truman Capote’s Black and White Ball. Honestly where inspiration can be drawn from for the 2020 Met Gala with the theme of “About Time: Fashion and Duration” is almost endless. The exhibition spans the fashion over the last 150 years. That leaves a lot room for interpretation. While I think timeless glamour is what we are most likely going to see dominate on the Met Gala red carpet I think the looks in this set of wishes are great options to really showcase the range of looks we could see.Looking into the history of Iris Van Herpen designs on the Met Gala red carpet it seems like we have just seen the label worn 3 times. Liu Wen wore the label in 2016, Solange Knowles wore the label in 2018, and Jordan Roth wore the label last year. The dress worn by Solange is actually in this years exhibition, so I would imagine that the designer will be featured on this red carpet as well. While the label has only dressed one star per carpet in the past I’ve picked two very different looks for two very different stars to wear on this years red carpet. We’ve already seen my pick for Danai Gurira wearing the label on the red carpet, so now let’s discuss the gown I want to see Cara Delevingne bring to life. Iris van Herpen is a Dutch fashion designer who is widely recognized as one of fashion’s most talented and forward-thinking creators who continuously pushes the boundaries of fashion design. For Cara I would love to see her wearing this bone cream and black Iris van Herpen Spring 2020 halter gown which features intricate threading and jutting pannier inspired hips. This collection draws inspiration from the sensory processes that occur between the intricate composition of the human body, mirrored with the fibrous marine ecology of our oceans. Honestly to me this gown does the 18th century style in such a new, futuristic way I feel like Cara is one of the few who could really bring this look to life on a red carpet. Cara has sold many Iris Van Herpen moments to me on the red carpet and I do believe that she would sell this look to me with ease. Styling this gown in a super sleek manner pairing it with a sleek high pony tail, smokey eyes, Chanel Rogue Allure Velvet Extreme Intense Matte Lip Colour in ‘Modern’, a pair of simple black Stuart Weitzman ‘Nudistsong’ ankle strap sandals, and a bit of sparkle via Sutra ‘Signature’ collection palm burst cluster earrings in 18k blackened gold and diamonds would enure that Cara owns this look on the Met Gala red carpet. Greta Gerwig attended the Met Gala 4 times. Twice wearing looks I loved and twice wearing looks I loathed. For this years red carpet I decided to go to a label we haven’t really seen in a major manner at the Met in a past: Lela Rose. I have always loved chic feminine moments that Lela has created and feel like this year’s theme would be the perfect time for her to finally have a major moment. Greta’s stylist Cristina Ehrlich has been known to try out designers who haven’t gotten Met Gala moments and has been a huge fun of Lela Rose. She has put Greta in many Lela Rose creations over the years so when I was starting to think of who should wear this platinum metallic jacquard Lela Rose Fall 2020 RTW asymmetric gown which features an off the shoulder, draped waist, a-line skirt, and a side drape Greta immediately popped into my mind. This super 50’s/60’s high society glam is something I imagine being a perfect for this years red carpet. I would want to see that side drape extended into a major train moment to really make sure this gown is dramatic enough for the Met Gala red carpet. The gown would be perfectly styled with a sleek center parted beehive style, defined eyes, dark red lips, a champagne satin Judith Leiber Couture ‘Soho’ coffered crystal clasp clutch, a pair of beige satin Roger Vivier ‘Flower Strass Buckle’ crystal embellished pointed toe pumps, and Irene Neuwirth one of a kind opal drop earrings. It would definitely make for a major moment for Greta to bring to life on the Met Gala red carpet. I feel like it has been a really long time since we have seen an Armani Prive moment on the Met Gala red carpet. I feel like that has to change this year, hence my three wishes to see the brand on this years red carpet. This is my final Armani Prive for this years red carpet. I have been obsessed with this black liquid sequin Armani Prive Spring 2019 Couture strapless jumpsuit which features a plunging v-neckline, beaded fringe details on the neckline and on hip pockets, and flared cuffs on the ankle length pants since this collection was first presented last January. I have made several wishes to see this look brought to life on the red carpet, but none of them really worked for me for the Met Gala. Instead I thought it would be a major moment for Kerry Washington to deliver on this years red carpet. She has been shunning the typical gown a lot this year in favor for bold sexy moments. I really do believe that while I typically believe that gowns are needed for the Met Gala that this look would be able to hold it’s own against some of the more dramatic gowns. Making this look super sleek and sexy with a sleek center parted bob, smokey eyes, bold red lips, a pair of black satin Christian Louboutin ‘Antinorina’ crystal embellished strappy half d’Orsay pointed toe pumps, a selection of Nikos Koulis jewels including a pair of ‘Oui’ collection art deco drop earrings with pear shape and emerald cut rubies, pear shape, oval and emerald cut white diamonds and black enamel, a ‘Oui’ collection geometric bracelet with rubies, white diamonds and black enamel, and a ‘Oui’ collection wave bracelet with rubies, white diamonds and black enamel would definitely make this a major moment. Inspired by Truman Capote’s 1966 Black and White Ball, the glamorous Oscar de la Renta Fall 2020 RTW  collection twinkled against the stunning backdrop of the New York Public Library. The collection delivered superb moments that I feel we will undoubtedly see a couple of moments from the label on the red carpet at this years Met Gala. This beautiful strapless silver Oscar de la Renta Fall 2020 RTW bead embellished tulle bone structured ballgown is definitely perfect for this years Met Gala and I have been thinking that this gown would be perfectly brought to life by Lily Aldridge. The supermodel has been wearing a lot of vintage looks lately, but I feel like she would be the perfect person to bring this gown to life at the Met. She knows how to deliver sensual drama on the red carpet and that is exactly what this gown is. As I was looking back at Lily’s past Met Gala red carpet looks I realized that I have never been wowed by her on the Met steps. I think this gown has potential to be her best Met moment ever especially if styled with sleek high bun updo, defined eyes, bold red lips, a pair of silver Christian Louboutin ‘Spikaqueen’ iridescent pointed toe PVC crystal embellished ankle strap pumps, and a statement white diamond Bulgari ‘Giardini Italiani’ leaf collar necklace. Honestly I am shocked that when I looked up who Cushnie had dressed for past red carpets I could only find one look; La La Anthony in 2014. This is is one of the more underrated labels out there in my opinion. Carly Cushnie delivers super glamorous and sexy moments in every collection and I would love to see her dress a major star for this years red carpet. I want to see Cushnie dress Regina King for this years Met Gala in this lavender one shoulder gown which features an A-line silhouette, draped bodice, pleated panel on the skirt. Now like most runway or lookbook dresses I’ve featured in my 2020 Met Gala wishes I want to see Carly Cushnie create a custom version of this gown for Regina that takes the pleated panel and turns it into a dramatic train. The look screams glamour and I do think that getting a major star like Regina to wear the look on the Met Gala red carpet would ensure Cushnie gets the major fashion moment it deserves. Styling this look with a bold braided updo, deep purple smokey eyes, nude glossy lips, lilac glitter Jimmy Choo ‘Pattie’ peep toe platform ankle strap sandals, and a pair of major amethyst and white diamond Boucheron ‘Animeaux’ winged pendant drop earrings would finish this look beautifully for Regina.

PARIS FASHION WEEK FALL 2020 RTW RED CARPET WISH LIST PART 2

Paris Fashion Week, much like New York Fashion Week, produced a plethora of options for stars to deliver stellar red carpet moments. But given the current state of our world right now the only thing we can do is fantasize about what could be. I am hoping that as the curve of this virus stars to decline and we start to see events being rescheduled that many of these wishes will come true. Some of my favorite collections of the season are featured in this set of wishes. I think that is evidenced well by just how many looks from some of the shows I have made wishes for. I am praying for glamour and drama coming forward. Which of the looks below to you most want to see brought to life on the red carpet?
