“Coming 2 America” Premiere Red Carpet Wish List

Thirty three years after the original was released we are getting Eddie Murphy and Arsenio Hall back on the silver screen with Coming 2 America. I have to say I am really looking forward to this one. It is getting a lot of the old game back together, but also adding some new stars. So I am really disappointed that the film won’t get a big red carpet for a premiere, because I know that this cast would BRING it.Garcelle Beauvais had fallen off the map almost, but between being a Real Housewife of Beverly Hills and her return to the big screen in Coming 2 America you can bet that she is back. Now that being said I don’t know if the former would hurt her in being able to pull some major fashion moments from some of the top tier labels. That being said I was thinking about this major black Ese Azenabor Couture long sleeve gown which features an bold red and purple floral print, a thigh high split, and a dramatic train as the perfect moment for Garcelle to rock for a premiere for Coming 2 America. I wanted to bring a black designer to this look for Garcelle and regular readers will know that I am really keeping a close eye on Ese Azenabor as a rising talent. A major red carpet moment like this could really do big things for her career and I would have loved to see Garcelle bring it. Hair worn down straight and center parted, smokey eyes, deep red glossy lips, black leather Christian Louboutin ‘Loubi Queen’ ankle strap sandals, and statement jewels from IVY New York including a pair of artistically created rubellite and white diamond pendant drop earrings, a red spinel and white diamond flower cocktail ring, and a vivid red spinel and white diamond ‘Gondola’ ring would definitely made sure this look oozed glamour from head to toe. Kiki Layne is one of the new faces in the cast of Coming 2 America and given her fashion chops shown since bursting onto the scene with If Beale Street Could Talk I have to say I am so mad that COVID stole a major red carpet moment from us. I was watching the Kim Jones debut at Fendi Spring 2021 Couture and the moment I saw this blue and grey halterneck gown which features a keyhole cutout, intricate embroidered lace, and a dramatic cape I imagined it on Kiki. I feel like had there actually been a big red carpet planned for this premiere that this is definitely something her stylists Wayman & Micah would be calling in as an option for her to bring to life. I have this gown burned into my mind for Kiki that I cannot think of anyone else I would want to see wearing it. It’s definitely one of those mentally reserved moments. An intricate asymmetric braided updo, defined eyes, deep berry burgundy lips, a pair of crystal embellished black suede Jimmy Choo ‘Emsy 100’ peep toe cross strap d’Orsay stiletto sandals, and Nikos Koulis ‘Yesterday’ collection white gold long drop earrings with white diamonds, black enamel and black onyx would have definitely made sure that his was a MAJOR fashion moment on a major red carpet.

Coming 2 America will hit Amazon Prime Video on March 5, 2021.

Fall 2020 Couture Round Up Red Carpet Wish List

Couture this season was VERY different. We saw designers tackle moving presentation digitally in vastly different ways. Dior did a short video editorial and showcased petite mains work on miniatures. Hobeika recorded a show without an audience from his home in Lebanon. Ralph & Russo showed a mix of in person shot lookbook, a digital spokesmodel, and sketches. And most showed smaller paired down collections shot in lookbooks. I would love to see many of these looks on the red carpet so I am hoping that we start seeing red carpets return soon. Two seasons worth of looks are already headed to the archives without being worn. So check out the 61 wishes below I would love to see brought to life on the red carpet from the Fall 2020 Couture collections.

“The Old Guard” Premiere Red Carpet Wish List

I have to say that I am really disappointed that The Old Guard isn’t going to have a red carpet premiere. This film is a superhero flick directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood, based on the comic book of the same name. With a cast that includes Charlize Theron, KiKi Layne, Matthias Schoenaerts, Marwan Kenzari, Luca Marinelli, and Chiwetel Ejiofor I would have definitely wanted to see a red carpet to celebrate the films release. The story focuses on a pack of mercenaries who are all centuries-old immortals able to heal from any wound. Just as they find another immortal has “awakened”, they realize someone is onto their secret and have to fight for their freedom. The Old Guard is scheduled to be released on July 10, 2020, by Netflix. So today I am putting out wishes for what could have been had the film had a big red carpet premiere. Over the course of awards season Charlize Theron let me down over and over again until her sleek and sexy custom black gown at the Oscars. I always want the most from Charlize on the red carpet be it a big gown or an intricate cocktail moment. So I decided that since I really wasn’t a fan of anything Maria Grazia Chiuri has created lately for Charlize that I was going to dig deep into the Christian Dior Couture archives. I found this forest green and black asymmetrically origami draped cap sleeve midi dress from the Christian Dior by Gianfranco Ferre Spring 1996 Couture collection. The look definitely brings the edgy glamour to the red carpet. I would love to see Charlize bring this glamorous moment out of the Dior archives and give it a major moment on the red carpet. Just like Charlize this gown balances hard lines and soft frills. I fee like for a Netflix movie premiere that this look would be perfection especially if styled with a pair of black lace up detail patent leather Gianvito Rossi ankle strap sandals, defined eyes, red lips, a side parted pixie cut, and vintage Harry Winston 18k gold set white diamond cluster earrings. I am really bummed that we won’t get to see Kiki Layne bring her signature high glamour to the red carpet to promote this film. I’ve been in love with Kiki and her style since she first burst onto the scene wearing Gucci for the Toronto Film Festival premiere of If Beale Street Could Talk. I would have loved to see her bring effortless high glam to this red carpet with this canary yellow silk charmuse Prabal Gurung Pre-Fall 2020 one shoulder bias cut gown which features a dramatic ruffle on the shoulder and a sweeping train. I know that with Kiki’s banging body that she would definitely have brought this look come to life. I definitely think that had she had the opportunity to bring this gown to life with a big bun updo, defined eyes, pink lips, a pair of light gold glitter Sophia Webster ‘Rosalind 100’ three strap stiletto sandals, and a selection of Anabela Chan jewels including ‘Diamond Pearl Raindrop’ chandelier earrings and ‘Constellation Pearl and Diamond’ cuff bracelet that this could have been a Best Dressed of the Year worthy moment.

2020 Met Gala Red Carpet Wish List Part 2

Today I am continuing right along with my wishes for the 2020 Met Gala even though we do not have a date for when it will take place yet. With the theme of “About Time: Fashion and Duration” I am expecting a red carpet that hearkens back more to 2009 “Model As Muse” or 2010 “American Woman: Fashioning A National Identity” which delivered a red carpet that embodies more of a sense of drama and glamour than they did to some of the more specific themes like “Punk: Chaos to Couture”, “China: Through The Looking Glass”, and “Camp: Notes on Fashion.” To be on theme this year to me will be easier than ever. I imagine that a lot of looks will evoke the very glamorous vibe of old Hollywood glamour. So I started looking through the collections and saved over 600+ looks that I thought would be the perfect match for this red carpet, and then started picking the perfect stars to bring the gowns to like on the red carpet. French actress Adele Exarchopoulos has made a turn or two on the Met Gala red carpet in the past, but she was the first person to come to mind when I was trying to think of the perfect person to bring this blush pink Fendi Fall 2020 RTW dress to life on the Met Gala red carpet. I fell in LOVE with this dress the moment it came down the runway and I definitely think that it would be a perfect Met Gala moment. This look takes ideas from Victorian glamour, lingerie sensuality, and flapper beading and meshes them into a perfect fashion moment. I would love to see Silvia Fendi take this ensemble and length it into a column gown for Adele to wear on the Met Gala red carpet. The look would exude sensual femininity in a super dramatic way. While most looks for the Met Gala I am hoping for a train I think that the full organza sleeves of this gown add enough drama on their own. A sleek updo, defined eyes, burgundy lips, a pair of nude Fendi ‘Ffreedom’ bow detail sculpted heel slingback sandals, and simple pink and white diamond Chopard Red Carpet Collection teardrop earrings would give Adele a perfect Met Gala moment.Coco Rocha knows how to deliver DRAMA on the red carpet, so when I was thinking of who could really showcase this canary yellow Alexandre Vauthier Spring 2020 Couture strapless ballgown which features a full skirt, ankle length, and all over tired ruffles Coco immediately came to mind. On the Met steps in the past Coco has dazzled in designs from Zac Posen, McQueen, and Ungaro in the past. It has also been a hot second since we have seen Coco on the Met Gala red carpet and I can definitely imagine her twirling up the steps working this gown to its maximum potential especially if styled with a sleek high bun, thick winged eyes, soft rose pink lips, a pair of dazzling nude crystal embellished Jimmy Choo ‘Sacora’ ankle strap peep toe sandals, and white diamond Harry Kotlar leaf inspired cluster earrings. Gugu Mbatha Raw has been a Met Gala guest several times and since she has not seemed to slow as of late I am really excited to see what she and her stylist Cristina Ehrlich are cooking up for this years gala. I decided to go a very 50’s glam route for Gugu. We typically see one or two custom Emilia Wickstead moments on the Met Gala red carpet so I optioned a few looks and when I thought of Gugu wearing this gown customized to hit the floor I knew there was a real possibility in this look. The super glam of the snakeskin embossed metallic brocade infuses a touch of modernity into this classic gown. Making this a floor skimming gown would definitely ensure that this look is beautiful especially if styled with a curly updo, defined eyes, deep crimson red lips, a pair of gold crystal embellished Rene Caovilla strappy sandals, and a statement Buccellati collar necklace in silver and yellow gold with pearls and rose-cut diamonds.Kiki Layne burst onto the fashion scene about a year and a half ago with her performance in If Beale Street Could Talk. She has two projects slated for release this year including the much anticipated Coming 2 America. So after a stellar showing last year at the 2019 Met Gala wearing custom Gucci I am hoping to see her back on the red carpet this year. She can have her pick of designers to dress her for the Met Gala, but I was thinking of this soft butter yellow Chloe Fall 2020 RTW moment since I first saw it on the runway. This gown does not immediately scream Met Gala, but I would imagine that modifying this gown to have a dramatic train that it would be dramatic enough for the Met Gala red carpet. When it comes down to it the easy going, bohemian vibe of Chloe just doesn’t fit into the classic glam vibe I feel we are going to see on this red carpet, but overall the bohemian aesthetic has endured and deserves to be spotlighted as well and well Chloe usually dresses at least one star for the Met and the look is typically not on theme. Just on brand. This gown is definitely on brand and I can imagine that Kiki would ensure that it is showcased to its full potential. I think that with a creative updo, defined eyes, nude lips, simple gold crystal embellished Gianvito Rossi ‘Montecarlo’ ankle strap sandals, and a pair of vintage 18k gold set Bulgari High Jewelry white diamond, emerald, and sapphire leaf earclips that this look would definitely be a really light and airy moment for Kiki to bring to life on this red carpet.  Naomi Campbell was another one who I immediately when I saw a look come down the runway that I had found the perfect Met Gala moment for her. This silver mirrored midi gown which features a structured neckline, fitted silhouette, long sleeves, and crystal fringe closed the Burberry Fall 2020 RTW show. The first video hit Instagram and when I saw this sparkling design walk I knew it was perfect for the Met Gala and that Naomi would be the perfect person to bring the gown to life. I would want to see this dress lengthened into a floor length gown for Naomi to really bring the dazzle to the Met steps. A sleek center parted hairstyle, defined eyes, bold lips, and a pair of silver Burberry ‘Kiltie’ crystal embellished pointed toe pumps would definitely all make this one of Naomi’s best red carpet moments ever. When I picked this navy and black Jonathan Cohen Fall 2020 RTW cap sleeve a-line dress which features velvet sleeves and hem and intricate white floral embroidery for Tina Fey in my New York Fashion Week Fall 2020 wishes I didn’t have any intention of choosing it to be a Met Gala pick. I was going through the collections picking the looks I felt best fit this years theme I thought this dress would be perfect. I really do believe that it would be quite the chic and glamorous moment for Tina to wear on this red carpet modified to be a full length gown. Now this gown would scream glamour, but I would also add navy satin waistband to make sure that Tina’s waist is cinched. To really make sure the glamor is exuded from top to toe I would style this gown with a sleek updo, defined eyes, soft pink lips, a pair of midnight blue satin Gianvito Rossi ‘Loren’ chunky heel ankle strap sandals, and simple yet dazzling Cartier High Jewelry white diamond and sapphire drop earrings.

Paris Fashion Week might be long over, but as red carpet events are being cancelled due to Corona Virus I thought well best not to let the wishes that danced around my head as I watched the livestreams of these shows and flipped through the lookbooks on Vogue Runway. As Robert Fripp once said “In strange and uncertain times such as those we are living in, sometimes a reasonable person might despair. But hope is unreasonable and love is greater even than this. May we trust the inexpressible benevolence of the creative impulse.” We must continue to embrace our creative and optimistic sides as we take in the news daily. So with that being said I am going to try and post a little more regularly. I am still trying to work out what content will look like moving forward, but it will all be focused on bringing a little bit of fantasy and escapism to my readers. 2019 Met Gala Red Carpet Wish List Part 15

The first Monday in May is almost here. I am super excited to see what everyone is planning to bring to this years Met Gala red carpet. I have been doing a lot of research on ‘Camp’ because of this years theme. In “Notes on ‘Camp'” sociologist Susan Sontag says “Considered a little less strictly, Camp is either completely naive or else wholly conscious (when one plays at being campy.)” Given this years theme guest who do abide by the theme, which is typically a good amount even if some just wear pretty (or sometimes not so pretty) gowns, they will be considered performing ‘Camp’ as they are intentionally picking looks that fit the ‘Camp’ aesthetic. I just hope that everyone brings the best that they can. ‘Camp’ can be incredibly glamorous and dramatic, but it can also be tacky and overwhelming. I want everyone to deliver just enough ‘Camp’ to fit their personality and this years theme. One of the things I love about the Met Gala is that Anna Wintour doesn’t only invite the biggest names. She invites the biggest names of now and the rising stars of tomorrow. That is why I decided to include Ella Balinska in this years wishes. Aside from sitting front row at the Valentino Spring 2019 Couture show back in January we haven’t really gotten a taste of who Ella is, but since she is staring in the latest reboot of Charlie’s Angels alongside Kristen Stewart, Noah Centineo, Naomi Scott, Elizabeth Banks, and Sam Claflin and has already been embraced by the couture label that we just might see her on the Met Gala red carpet. If she does I would bet that she will be wearing Valentino. Now given the fact she was front row at a couture show and wore a Valentino Couture gown for the Vanity Fair Oscar Party earlier this year some might be surprised that I picked a look from the Valentino Fall 2019 RTW collection for Ella to wear for the Met Gala. Honestly it is rare that Valentino dresses anyone in its crew with ready-to-wear looks, but it isn’t unheard of. I love this bright tangerine orange ruffled sleeve and neck a-line tulle gown which features a Japanese inspired print. It caught my eye then and was the only ready to wear look from Valentino that I saved. I think that Ella has the presence and attitude to really make this a major moment that could easily compare with couture creations on this red carpet. Pair this gown with a high top bun, defined eyes, matte antique rose pink lips, a pair of orange Giuseppe Zanotti ‘Kassie’ crystal circle sandals, and statement Sutra mandarin garnet and diamond fan drop earrings would all ensure that this is a major moment for Ella to wear for her first Met Gala red carpet. Last year Ezra Miller became a star when it comes to celebrating ‘Camp’ style on the red carpet. He rocked such plethora of looks including high fashion options from Pierpaolo Piccioli x Moncler and Givenchy Couture. He hasn’t been to a Met Gala before and I am hoping that changes this year. I know he would deliver an absolutely major moment. I knew the moment I saw these multicolored fringe looks come down the Givenchy Spring 2019 Couture runway back in January that they would be perfect for this years Met Gala theme. I thought about the usual suspects for a look like this like Solange or Zoe Kravitz, but then I decided to think out of the box and pick this look for Ezra. I do honestly believe that it would be something super unexpected and that is exactly what I want to see on the Met Gala red carpet. This look would definitely get people talking. That is what I want out of this years Met Gala red carpet. Looks that get people talking. That is what ‘Camp’ is supposed to do. Make people ask “why?” Pair this Fringe dress with custom skinny white pants and a pair of white Givenchy cutout and embossed heeled ankle books and I am sure that this could be a real Best Dressed contender. I went into my Met Gala editing with an idea for a chic yellow gown for Kiki Layne to rock on her first Met Gala red carpet inspired by the beaded embellishments found on a Gucci Fall 2019 RTW coat and a yellow glittered tulle gown that I thought would be rather simpler look, even given this years theme. This yellow and gold ballgown which features dramatic asymmetrical pleated lamé ruffed gown is what my photo editor sent me. When I said go big or go home was definitely the embodiment of this years theme she went hunting for her own details and created this gown. The ruffle came off a 1980’s Capucci gown and it totally works with Alessandro Michele’s current aesthetic for Gucci and I think that Kiki would definitely turn this gown into even more of a major moment than it is on paper. She has the presence and elegance to really make a gown like this work with effortless ease. The gown itself is such a statement, so I think that simpler styling is right to allow the gown do all the talking. A sleek low bun, smokey eyes, glossy dark red lips, a pair of strappy gold Gucci sandals, and statement making Bulgari sunburst diamond chandelier earrings are what I think would ensure this is a truly magical moment for Kiki.Lupita Nyong’o is on the host committee for this years Met Gala and I am definitely hoping that means that she will be on the red carpet at this years event. I haven’t really loved what she has worn lately and I want to see Lupita definitely deliver something amazing and worthy of this year’s ‘Camp’ theme. I went for a bit of a more subdued gown choice given this years theme picking this black and navy Marc Jacobs Fall 2019 RTW feathered silk tea length gown which a strapless sweetheart neckline, a fitted bodice and a flared skirt. This is definitely a beautiful moment and I think that Lupita could wear it for just about any red carpet. I would love to see her wear it though with some accessories that literally and figuratively evoke the idea of a peacock including a Judith Leiber Couture ‘Peacock Peak A Boo’ crystal embellished minaudiere, a pair of black, navy, and green Jimmy Choo ‘Annie’ feather and sequin embellished sandals, and dazzling Chopard Red Carpet Collection diamond, emerald, and sapphire chandelier earrings. An intricate, yet sleek, updo, navy smokey eyes, and nude lips all would finish the look perfectly. Priyanka Chopra & Nick Jonas are also on this years Met Gala host committee. I think that is only apt since it was at the Met Gala 2 years ago that the two really met when they were both guests of Ralph Lauren. They also attended with the famed designer last year. Who then went on to design the looks that both wore for their Christian wedding ceremony. The famed American designer is reportedly not going to be buying a table at this years Met Gala, so I wonder if this duo will make it a three-peat in Ralph Lauren creations or if they will step out of that box and experiment with something new. Personally while I love them in Ralph’s creations I want to see them bring something new to this red carpet, and by new I mean (especially in Priyanka’s case) labels that aren’t what we see on the Met Gala red carpet. I had put this strapless Rami Kadi Spring 2019 Couture tinsel embellished ballgown as an option for this years Met Gala not expecting to use it, but when I heard the news about Ralph I thought it would be the perfect look for Priyanka to bring it to life on this red carpet. Rami isn’t a VOGUE approved designer, but I think that Priyanka has what it takes to make this a major statement look on the red carpet especially if paired with a sleek updo, defined eyes, bright magenta pink lips, silver iridescent leather and PVC Christian Louboutin ‘Spikoo’ spike studded pointed toe sandals, and beautiful Lorraine Schwartz diamond mesh drop earrings. As for Nick I want to see him bring his more extra style to this red carpet too. I think that he would perfectly complimentary to Priyanka in Rami Kadi Couture wearing this metallic thread grey plaid Neil Barrett Fall 2019 Menswear single button peak lapel tuxedo with matching pants. Now I would want to see Nick add classic details like a crisp white tuxedo shirt, black bow tie, and a pair of black Christian Louboutin ‘Greggo Orlato’ oxfords to really make this look Met Gala red carpet ready. Will these two once again be the king and queen of the fashion prom? In these looks I would definitely think so. Soo Joo Park is one of the more underrated super models both on the runway and on the red carpet. She has such a unique look that I am always drawn to. I definitely want to see her rock this years Met Gala red carpet. She is a muse for Jean Paul Gaultier, who is a king of ‘Camp’ style. I want to see more than the typical one guest wearing Jean Paul Gaultier, even if it is just one a-lister and a model. I would love to see Soo Joo dig into the Gaultier archives and pull out this ice blue Jean Paul Gaultier Spring 2015 Couture satin, denim, and tulle strapless ballgown for this years Met Gala red carpet. I think that this look epitomizes ‘Camp,’ because it take something that shouldn’t be okay for evening, denim, and delivers it in a way that really speaks to glamour. Style this look with a sleek center parted flat ironed hairstyle, thick winged eyes, rose pink lips, the runways gloves, a pair of silver Sergio Rossi ‘Sr Milano’ crystal studded sandals, and Chopard Red Carpet Collection diamond, tanzanite, and sapphire fringe hoop earrings to make sure that Soo Joo is one of my favorite models on the Met Gala red carpet!

The 2019 Met Gala will take place on the first Monday in May: May 6, 2019.

2019 Academy Awards Red Carpet Wish List Part 3

I am just getting started with my wishes for this years Oscars red carpet. I am doing things a little differently than I normally do. I typically do a post for the Best Actress nominees, Best Supporting Actress nominees, other nominees, performers, and presenters separately. Today’s set of wishes has looks for presenters, nominees, and a performer and I am super excited about all of them.I was hoping that Kiki Layne would be on the Oscar stage as a presenter and not just there as a guest of her nominated film If Beale Street Could Talk and that wish came true. I have been obsessed with Kiki since she first burst onto the scene wearing a Gucci midi gown on the red carpet at the Toronto International Film Festival premiere of the film. I am almost expecting that Kiki will wear something custom designed for her from Gucci, BUT I decided to go back to the same designer that Kiki wore for the Academy Governors Awards back in November of last year: Ralph & Russo. The moment I saw this lavender Ralph & Russo Spring 2019 Couture asymmetric lamé off the shoulder ball gown which features a voluminous peplum skirt with a high low bubble hem and a ruffled neckline I knew it would be a perfect Oscar gown and when Kiki was announced as a presenter I knew it was perfect for her. Kiki has this dramatic and glamorous style and I believe that she would own it with effortless ease. A chic bun of braids, smokey eyes, dark glossy red lips, a pair of lavender satin Paula Cademartori ‘Iris Opulence’ crystal embellished pointed toe pumps, and vintage Bulgari jewels including asymmetrical diamond and amethyst drop earrings and a statement diamond, blue sapphire, and pink sapphire cuff bracelet all would make this an absolutely amazing moment for Kiki to wear on the red carpet at her first Oscars. Laura Dern is on the Academy’s Board of Governors for the actors branch of the organization so it came as no surprise that she was announced as a presenter for this years ceremony. As I started to think about the perfect gown for Laura to wear on this red carpet my mind kept going to this two tone red Valentino Fall 2019 Couture sleeveless gown which features a trumpet silhouette intricate beading and velvet pleats. I have been in love with this gown since it first came down the runway last July and I am honestly shocked that it hasn’t been worn yet. I definitely think that Laura has the statuesque glamour to really make this gown come to life on the red carpet. Add a red marbled plexi Tyler Ellis ‘Lily’ clutch, a loose low chignon updo, defined eyes, red lips, a pair of red Aquazzura ‘Versailles’ peep toe d’orsay pumps, and vintage 1920’s Cartier diamond chandelier earrings and I know this moment is going to be one of my favorites of the night. I had to search high and low for the perfect “winner’s gown’ for Regina King to wear on the red carpet at the Oscars on Sunday night. She is expected to take home the Best Supporting Actress trophy and I wanted to make sure she has a fashion moment to wow while doing so. I had edited a custom Prada gown for Regina to wear on this red carpet originally, but when I saw her perched front row at the Michael Kors Fall 2019 RTW collection I started to second guess my custom edit. I decided to go with a custom gown inspired by a gold and black sequin and feather embellished long sleeve cocktail dress that came down that very runway. I created this sleeveless gown which features a plunging neckline, belted waist, sequined bodice, and a fully feathered skirt and train in my head and my photo editor brought my vision to life. As soon as I saw it I fell in love and I believe Regina would too. Pair the gown with a sleek updo, smokey eyes, dark red lips, a black Tyler Ellis ‘Perry’ crocodile stamped satin clutch, a pair of black Jimmy Choo ‘Lancer’ caged pointed toe pumps, and Chopard jewels including rubellite and diamond drop earrings and and intricate gold set rubellite cocktail ring to ensure this look screams Oscar winner from head to toe. I’m not going to lie after SZA skipped the Golden Globe, Critics Choice, and Grammy Awards I wasn’t planning to feature her in my Oscar wishes despite the fact that she is nominated for Best Original Song for “All The Stars” from Black Panther. Though when it was confirmed that she and Kendrick Lamar would perform I decided to add her to this list. She hasn’t been one of the big fashion stars to emerge over the last year or so, but I am hoping that she will rise to the occasion of being an Oscar nominee. I thought about doing a gown for SZA to wear on this red carpet, but when I saw this black Giambattista Valli Spring 2019 Couture strapless tuxedo inspired jumpsuit which features a dramatic chiffon train I thought it fit her more laid back style. It isn’t very often I think that pants over a gown is a good option for the Oscars red carpet, but I definitely think that this look on SZA would be really good. She loves her big curls so I would keep that going with smokey eyes, nude lips, a pair of black lace Christian Louboutin ‘Jose Altafine’ platform lace up ankle cuff pumps, a pair of Nikos Koulis ‘Lingerie’ collection hoop earrings with white diamonds and silver pearls and a matching cuff bracelet. For her performance during the telecast I have decided to go with something sexy yet chic with this black Burberry Pre-Fall 2019 ensemble which features a black sequined lingerie inspired bustier with sheer panels and a pair of wide fit draped pants. I think that this is definitely something right up SZA’s ally and I think that for a performance it just works especially if she pairs it with a pair of black Stella McCartney ‘Elyse’ platform shoes, those full curls, smokey eyes, red lips, and all kinds of Nikos Koulis ‘Oui’ collection jewels including diamond and black enamel fringe hoop earrings, a kissing trillion cut diamond and black enamel ring, a three emerald cut diamond and black enamel ring, and a diamond and black enamel snake ring. She could even add a custom cut tuxedo jacket to the look following the performance to finish taking in the rest of the Oscars telecast. I was so excited to see what Yalitza Aparicio was going to bring to the red carpet as she started her journey this awards season. I have been pretty disappointed though. I hope that the red carpet at her very first Oscars is going to see that she brings something absolutely beautiful. I won’t lie to you when I created this custom navy Prada cloqué floral jacquard strapless gown which features a defined waist, and a flowing satin train was actually the gown I originally designed for Regina to wear on this red carpet. But when I created the custom Michael Kors gown I knew I didn’t want this gown to go to waste. Yalitza has been dressed by the Prada sister brand Miu Miu twice this awards season and I would bet that she will end awards season in a design from one or the other. This custom gown if tailored perfectly to her curves would be absolutely gorgeous on Yalitza especially if paired with old Hollywood waves, defined eyes, soft pink lips, a navy satin Prada box clutch, a pair of navy velvet Prada peep toe sandals, and Chopard Red Carpet Collection diamond and sapphire drop earrings.

The 2019 Academy Awards will take place on Sunday February 24, 2019.

2019 Oscar Parties Red Carpet Wish List Part 8

Oscar parties always have a fun set of glamour around them all. They aren’t typically as dramatic as the red carpet at the main ceremony, but pretty close. On big awards nights like this I keep spreadsheets of all the stars on the red carpet and who they are wearing. Most nights it is a single spreadsheet, but on Oscar night I have one for the main ceremony, one for the Elton John party, and one for the Vanity Fair Party. By the end of the night, and actually well into the next day, I have seen upwards of 300+ looks from all of these nights. So needless to say I am really excited to see what will come on this red carpet. Ciara is one of the stars who loves to walk a red carpet. I am honestly surprised that we didn’t see her at the Grammy’s last weekend. I am definitely hoping that we see her step out on Oscar night. I snatched two looks for her right off the recent New York Fashion Week runways. She isn’t confirmed to attend either the Elton John or Vanity Fair party but I would love to see her on the red carpet at both. For Elton John I went on a dramatic, glamorous, and sexy take on menswear dressing picking a cream Ralph Lauren Spring 2019 RTW long sleeve tuxedo which features a long gown like blazer worn over wide leg pants. I saw this look and it took me back to JLo in Maid in Manhattan and if anyone can evoke that same type of sex appeal and glamour it is Ciara. The look needs to be tailored perfectly, which isn’t typically an issue for Ciara to be really great. I would love to see her style this gown with a pair of silver to gold dégradé glitter Casadei ‘Blade’ pointed toe pumps, a sleek high ponytail, smokey eyes, red lips, and a pair of $135,000 18k gold David Web ‘Snake’ wreath drop earrings made up of cabochon and emerald drops and brilliant-cut diamonds. For a quick change for the Vanity Fair Oscar Party I went for a very chic 90’s inspired moment with this black Tom Ford Fall 2019 RTW jersey draped gown which features an asymmetrical lilac metal chain link neckline and a matching jersey cardigan that I believe Ciara would definitely be able to wear with ease. These gowns in this collection are going to take the right person to deliver them effortlessly and based on her red carpet history I think that Ciara would have that effortless glamour to really make it work. Add a sleek center parted hairstyle, smokey eyes, nude lips, uber sexy black Aquazzura ‘Milos’ strappy PVC lace up sandals, and a pair of simple Norman Silverman emerald cut diamond drop earrings and I know that Ciara would own this moment on the red carpet. I am still shocked that Gigi Hadid hasn’t been at the Vanity Fair Oscar Part since she walked the red carpet back in 2015. In addition to all of the biggest names in movies, as well as quite a few in television and music, we typically see all of the top models from icons like Naomi to models of the moment like Stella Maxwell on the Vanity Fair red carpet. Usually if they walk the Victoria’s Secret runway we can expect to see them at the Vanity Fair Party. So I am hoping that four years after her last appearance on this red carpet (which was before Gigi really blew up) that she will be back on the red carpet this coming weekend. I would love to see Gigi do so wearing the same brand with this sky blue Atelier Versace Fall 2018 Couture ‘SCHÖNBRUNN’ one shoulder draped goddess gown which features a cape like detail, intricate silver sequin embellishments on the bodice and shoulder, a sexy thigh high side split, and a dramatic train. I believe that this is more of a flowing moment than we are used to seeing from Gigi on the red carpet, but I believe that she would come across as a warrior goddess especially if she paired this gown with a sleek updo, defined eyes, punchy pink lips, a pair of silver iridescent leather Christian Louboutin ‘Spikoo’ spike embellished PVC pointed toe strappy pumps, and Messika ‘Bright Falcon’ diamond ear-crawling fringe earrings. Kiki Layne has had a MAJOR year so far. I knew that she would after seemingly coming out of nowhere last year and taking my Best Newcomer title in my End of the Year Style Awards. I have been loving her varried styles of clothing and hair over the last several weeks and months and I am really looking forward to seeing what she and her stylists Wayman & Michah are cooking up for Oscar night. She is part of the cast of the Best Picture nominated If Beale Street Could Talk and is confirmed as a presenter at this years Oscar ceremony. I am working on picking something absolutely amazing for her first Oscars, but for the after party I am going back to a label that Kiki wore earlier this awards season at the Critics Choice Awards, Atelier Versace. I saw this multicolored pastel pin pleated Atelier Versace Spring 2019 Couture ‘Françoise’ gown in Instagram photos from inside the suite at the George V hotel in Paris where the collection was privately presented to clients and immediately fell in love with it. Honestly I wasn’t thinking of using it for Oscar night. The colors and draping of this gown scream Cannes, but when I thought of Kiki partying the night away wearing this gown I knew it would be a perfect moment for her to wear for Oscar night parties. One of the best parts of this gown is the draped back and I can see Kiki giving the perfect over the shoulder pose to showcase it beautifully. A pair of white, rose gold, and yellow gold Sophia Webster ‘Joy’ banded strap sandals, a sleek updo, smokey eyes, matte rose pink lips, and a pair of 18k hammered yellow gold and diamond David Webb drop earrings would all ensure this look is head tot toe perfection. Miley Cyrus delivered on Oscar night last year wearing a dazzling hot off the runway Moschino gown for the Elton John Oscar Party and a very old Hollywood glamour moment in Prabal Gurung at the Vanity Fair Party. She is on the list of co-hosts for this years Elton John AIDS Foundation Oscar Viewing Party and so I am hoping for another two look night. The two looks I’ve picked for Miley to wear this year couldn’t be more different. For the Elton John party I went for sexy glamour opting for a black Armani Prive Spring 2019 Couture strapless liquid sequin jumpsuit which features a dramatic plunging neckline and a flared cuff skinny pant. I love this look, but there aren’t many who I think I would really love it on. Miley has this effortlessly sexy style that I think would compliment this jumpsuit perfectly. A pair of black Christian Louboutin ‘Predupeep’ peep toe platform patent leather pumps, a sleek updo, defined eyes, red lips, and a pair of Chopard diamond and emerald fringe drop earrings would all ensure this look is head to toe perfection. For the Vanity Fair red carpet I went for big drama with this lipstick red and turquoise Rosie Assoulin Fall 2019 RTW ballgown which features a plunging neckline a ball skirt, and a removable over skirt. I knew I wanted to see this gown on Oscar night the moment I saw it and I just wondered who could really make it work. It isn’t the typical think we are used to seeing from Miley on the red carpet, but I definitely think that she could make it come to life especially if she paired it with old Hollywood waves, defined eyes, matching red lips, a pair of statement navy patent leather Christian Louboutin ‘Multiqueen’ strappy multicolor crystal embellished sandals, and Chopard diamond and ruby wing earrings. If anyone knows how to OWN a red carpet it is Tracee Ellis Ross. I was praying that after all the Kevin Hart drama that the Academy would call Tracee to host this years Oscars, but alas this weekend will be the first hostless Oscars in three decades. I am hoping to see Tracee on the red carpet at the after parties this year thought. She was one of my favorites of Oscar night last year wearing a Balmain Couture gown for the Vanity Fair Party red carpet. It was one of my final contenders for Best Dressed of the Year, but ultimately was cut in one of my final rounds. I want to see her bring the drama again this year. I turned to the Valentino Spring 2019 Couture collection and this dramatic glam ensemble which features an eggshell feathered caped top and florescent orange high waisted wide leg pants. This is not an easy look to pull off, but when I think about some of the other looks that Tracee has worn I know that she has what it takes to make this a major moment on the red carpet. I know she loves a moment of drama and this look fits that perfectly. A metallic gold Tyler Ellis ‘Perry’ python clutch, a top knot, smokey eyes, some sort of bold lips, a pair of gold Charlotte Olympia ‘Dolly’ platform pumps, and Irene Neuwirth emerald and fire opal asymmetrical drop earrings would all add the perfect finishing touches to really compliment this dramatic and glamorous moment for her to wear on the Vanity Fair red carpet.

The Elton John AIDS Foundation Oscar Viewing Party and the Vanity Fair Oscar Party will take place on Sunday February 24, 2019.

2019 Critics Choice Awards Red Carpet Wish List Part 11

Kaley Cuoco wore a simple navy velvet bodice, black ribbon waist, and ivory silk ball skirt Monique Lhuillier ensemble for the Golden Globes last weekend. It was exactly what I would expect from her. She is going to be one of the many presenters tomorrow night at the Critics Choice Awards and I have to say that I don’t have high expectations for what she will wear on the red carpet. I went back to Monique Lhuillier and this red strapless chiffon gown which features a sweetheart neckline finished with a tie detail along the front and a loose fit from the brands Fall 2019 RTW collection. The gown is simple and chic and I think that it is definitely something that Kaley would be drawn to. Old Hollywood waves, a pair of gold glitter Stuart Weitzman ‘Nudist’ sandals, defined eyes, soft pink lips, and moonstone cabochon, pink tourmaline, champagne citrine, diamond, & white topaz Anabela Chan ‘Rose’ chandelier earrings all would really add the perfect finishing touches to this ensemble.Kiki Layne delivered wearing custom nude Christian Dior Couture for the Golden Globe Awards and a short mint green ruffled Valentino cocktail dress. I knew that she would blow me away and she didn’t disappoint. I want to see her bring another really dramatic moment to the red carpet tomorrow night when she attends the 2019 Critics Choice Awards as one of the presenters. Azzi & Osta might not be on the same level as Dior or Valentino, but I really do believe that Kiki would be the perfect person to bring this periwinkle origami draped ensemble which features a strapless peplum top, a sheer floor length tulle skirt, and cropped pants to life on the red carpet. It is equal parts edge and glamour and I think that with a sleek high bun, navy smokey eyes, simple diamond stud earrings, soft nude lips, and a pair of silver Rene Caovilla d’orsay embroidered crystal detail sandals it would be another major moment from her. Michelle Rodriguez is part of the Best Acting Ensemble nominated cast of Widows and I have no idea if she will be on the red carpet tomorrow night. Something tells me yes because I do feel like Michelle goes to every event she is invited to. I had a hard time picking a gown because she does bring many high fashion moments to the red carpet. I decided to pull something right off the rack for her opting for this black Brandon Maxwell long sleeve shimmery velvet gown which features a wrap style, self-tie sash at waist, column silhouette, and a thigh high split. It is exactly what I think would make for a perfect moment for Michelle to bring to life on the red carpet at the Critics Choice Awards. The gown perfectly suits Michelle’s edgy yet glam style. Finish the look with old Hollywood waves, defined eyes, red lips, a pair of black Christian Louboutin ‘Multimiss’ leather and PVC buckle strap pumps, and Djula ‘Harmonie’ diamond chandelier earrings and I know it would be perfection. Nina Dobrev swapped out stylists last year and I am still unsure as to who she is currently working with. She had looks styled by both Kate Young and Chris Horan last year. I think she is currently still with Kate and that almost frightens me. Kate tends to stick to a small box and while it has been a while since Nina really wowed me I am hoping that Kate doesn’t ruin her getting her a Louis Vuitton, Chanel, or Dior contract. I did pick a gown from Louis Vuitton though for Nina to wear on the red carpet at the Critics Choice Awards where she will be a presenter. I love this simple black Louis Vuitton embroidered glitter gown which features an adjustable tie with a chain detail waistline, thin cord straps, and a draped a-line skirt. For a presenter I definitely think that this gown is perfect especially if paired with sleek center parted hair tucked behind the ears, a black glitter acrylic Edie Parker ‘Jean’ box clutch, black Louis Vuitton ‘Overnight Cross’ crystal monogrammed chain strap sandals, and modern Yvan Tufenkjian diamonds including fringe ear crawling earrings and a stacked parallel lines cuff bracelet.

The 2019 Critics Choice Awards will take place on Sunday January 13, 2019.

2019 Golden Globe Awards Red Carpet Wish List Part 9

Golden Globe Awards presenters are slowly being announced. Before I even started thinking about who will present I had already edited a bunch of wishes for the stars of films and shows that earned nominated but didn’t earn individual acting nominations. Typically we see stars of shows and movies invited to attend the Golden Globes even if they aren’t nominated or don’t present. The projects nominated this year are so full of style stars that I wanted to feature as many wishes as I could for each of the stars to bring to life. Dakota Fanning didn’t present at the 2018 Emmy Awards, but she was still on the red carpet (wearing Dior Couture no less) to support her TNT limited series The Alienist. The show is nominated for Best Miniseries or Television film at this years Golden Globe Awards so I wanted to make sure that I put out a wish for her to wear on the red carpet if she steps out to support the show on the red carpet. I decided to go down the custom route for Dakota opting for this blush pink custom Prada chiffon gown which featured a draped bodice, deep v-neckline, a crystal jeweled waist, and a flowing a-line skirt with a sweeping train. I love a great moment from Dakota in either Miu Miu or Prada and I think that this soft, feminine, and romantic gown would be an absolutely beautiful moment on this red carpet especially if paired with a romantic updo, defined eyes, soft pink lips, simple silver Prada sandals, and a pair of vintage Cartier diamond and jade art deco drop earrings. Hailee Steinfeld stars in the Best Animated Feature Film nominated Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse and I really would love to see her bring her sexy, dramatic glamour to the Golden Globe Awards red carpet. They love Hailee over at the Hollywood Foreign Press Association so it wouldn’t surprise me if she is named as one of the presenters in the coming hours and days. I want to see Hailee deliver a very glamorous femme fatale moment on this red carpet wearing this black tulle and silk velvet Ralph & Russo Fall 2018 Couture strapless column gown which features a plunging strapless sweetheart neckline and organza frill, embellished with lacquered ribbon and micro-beading. This gown gives a modern take on 40’s femme fatale style and I definitely think that Hailee would absolutely shut down the red carpet wearing this creation. Add a sleek high ponytail, smokey eyes, bold red lips, black Christian Louboutin ‘Nosy Strass’ PVC detail pointed toe pumps, and Fernando Jorge jewels including ‘Fusion Arrow’ long diamond & clear topaz earrings and a ‘Fusion Cross’ diamond & clear topaz cocktail ring and I know that Hailee will deliver a major moment. I knew exactly what I wanted to see If Beale Street Could Talk Star Kiki Layne bring to life on the Golden Globe Awards red carpet as soon as I saw that the show was nominated. She might not be nominated, but I am sure that she is going to win the red carpet game. I have been taking note of Kiki and her style since the tour for this film kicked off at the 2018 Toronto International Film Festival. She has been quickly upping her game. She got her footing very quickly. She may not be nominated, and she might not even get to present, but I want to see Kiki take to this red carpet on Sunday night wearing this periwinkle blue silk taffeta Valentino Fall 2018 Couture strapless ballgown which features a matching bubble sleeve bolero. This is definitely a tricky look to wear. We have so far only see Beyonce and Tracee Ellis Ross attempt to bring the bold taffeta gowns to life off the runway, but I definitely think that Kiki has the elegance to really make this gown come to life on this red carpet. A pair of gold Sophia Webster ‘Chiara’ butterfly heel sandals, a sleek high bun, defined eyes, bold pink lips, and a statement Ruwaya ‘Palm Tree’ pink sapphire and diamond necklace would all ensure that this is the most major moment that Kiki has yet to wear on a red carpet.Lucy Boynton is part of the cast of Bohemian Rahpsody and I would expect that since she has attended other events including the Academy Governors Awards that we will see her supporting the Best Motion Picture – Drama nominated film on Sunday night at the Golden Globe Awards. I honestly had no idea who Lucy was heading into this tour except for the fact that she had made a couple of front row appearances at Miu Miu and Valentino shows with her co-star Rami Malek. I still haven’t quite figured out what her style is, but I decided I wanted to see the American born English actress bring a chic British label to this red carpet. We don’t really see a while lot of Roland Mouret on the red carpet anymore and it is a shame when he is creating gowns like this silver, emerald, and blush ‘Lucia’ strapless shimmer silk nylon color blocked gown which features an origami folded asymmetrical neckline and an a-line skirt. The gown isn’t the first thing I would think of for the Golden Globe Awards, but as Lucy would just be attending as a guest of the film that is nominated I do think it would make sense. I would add an emerald green Judith Leiber Couture faceted box clutch, a sleek bob, thick defined eyes, red lips, a pair of silver Aquazzura ‘Shine’ crystal embellished PVC t-strap sandals, and a pair of David Morris diamond and emerald teardrop earrings to really ensure that this look is nothing but modern glamour defined. Lupita Nyong’o will be one of the many presenters on Sunday night. The Hollywood Foreign Press Association tweeted it out late last night. I already had a gown picked for her under the assumption that even if she wasn’t announced as a presenter that Lupita would be on the red carpet to support her Best Motion Picture – Drama nominated film Black Panther. I went for a really dramatic look for someone who would just be a guest so I am glad that it is confirmed that she will be a presenter on Sunday night. When I was dreaming up what I wanted to see from Lupita I found a strapless vintage Gianni Versace Couture gown on 1stDibs. Since Donatella has been really looking at her brothers archives for her recent collections I thought that it would be cool to see her re-issue this canary yellow gown from Fall 1995, but in a new and more dramatic manner. The beading on the archive gown does seem very dated and I definitely think that Donatella, and the team inside the Versace atelier, could dream up a way to enhance that. I also would add a really dramatic train that fans out from inside the pleated mermaid hem of the gown. Lupita loves color and I definitely think that she would be able to sell this bold modern vintage moment to me on this red carpet. I took a risk in the jewels I wanted to pair with this gown. I was searching for a pair of yellow diamond chandelier earrings when I found the perfect pair, but the come from Graff. The brand doesn’t really loan out for red carpets. In fact Angelina Jolie was the first star to be loaned jewels from the brand last year. I do however wish that they would consider sending these stunning white and yellow diamond waterfall chandelier earrings for Lupita to wear with this gown. I would also love to see Lupita go back to her buzzed hairstyle. Not many people can really make me love a look like that, but she definitely was able to do it. Add defined eyes, red glossy lips, and a pair of gold Aquazzura ‘Studio’ sequined sandals and I know that Lupita would definitely prove to me once again why I have loved her since the beginning. I would have put Rami Malek a little earlier in my wishes, but for some reason I forgot to pull his picture when I was planning my wishes for nominees first. He is nominated for Best Actor in a Motion Picture – Drama for his role as Freddie Mercury in Bohemian Rhapsody. I have always been a fan of Rami’s style and I am very excited to see what a full film awards season run from him will look like. For the Golden Globe Awards on Sunday I would love to see him wearing this dark bronze silk jacquard Saint Laurent Spring 2019 Menswear tuxedo jacket paired with a black button up worn sans tie and skinny pack tuxedo trousers. This would be a really cool look for Rami to wear on a red carpet like this, especially because I think that he has a real shot at taking home this trophy. Most male winners will play it safe opting for a classic black and white tuxedo, but I think Rami would be one to push those norm expectations to the side and explore his fashionable side. Just simple black patent leather boots would add the perfect finishing touch to this look.

The 2019 Golden Globe Awards will take place on Sunday January 6, 2019.
