2021 SAG Awards Red Carpet Wish List Part 2

It has been a whirlwind this year seeing how the different major award shows adapted to still go on amidst the global pandemic. There was the hybrid virtual nominees and in person presenters presented from both coast of the United States, the fully remote Critics Choice Awards, and the scaled back yet in person Grammy Awards. Each award show so far has taken their own path with accommodating the public health orders across the country and the world. The Screen Actors Guild has decided not to do any sort of live event, which is totally different. Instead they will be airing a one hour special that will be pre-recoreded. So these wishes are really just thoughts about what I would like to see as I am sure that portions of the show have already been recorded. As we move closer to this weekends event let’s dive into the wishes I have today for looks I would love to see worn for the SAG Awards. Anya Taylor Joy’s performance as Beth Harmon in The Queen’s Gambit has earned her both a Golden Globe and a Critics Choice Award. She has done so turning back to the same label Christian Dior Couture for both shows. It would not surprise me in the least if she will not be the next face of Dior, maybe the Miss Dior fragrance. It would actually shock me if Anya wore anything other than Dior for the SAG Awards special. I’ve loved this white and black sequined silk tulle Christian Dior Fall 2020 Couture spaghetti strap tea length ballgown since I first saw it. It was presented as a miniature collection on doll sized mannequins, but I would love to see the Dior ateliers take this miniature and create the full version for Anya. It is glamorous and sophisticated with a little bit of sex appeal. The vintage inspired nature of this gown blends together the iconic style sensibilities of both Audrey Hepburn and Marilyn Monroe. To really make this look perfection I would style it with a sleek rose inspired updo, defined eyes, bold red lips, a pair of white satin Aquazzura ‘Celeste 105’ strappy crystal embellished sandals, and a selection of Bulgari jewels including simple white diamond and emerald drop earrings and a delicate white diamond ‘Wings of Rome’ feather inspired necklace. It would be DRAMA and GLAMOUR defined. Cynthia Erivo has shown up for the Golden Globes, Critics Choice, and Grammy Awards this year and has served a MAJOR look at each. For the Globes she wore a neon green Valentino Couture neoprene tea length gowncustom lace and tulle Vera Wang for the Critics Choice Awards, and then a gorgeous silver and gold sequin and bead embellished custom Louis Vuitton gown for the Grammy’s. Each look she’s served could easily be a Best Dressed of the Year contender and I cannot wait to see what she has in store for us next when she is a presenter at the SAG Awards this weekend. I would love to see Cynthia go for bold dazzle wearing this black and silver Elie Saab Spring 2021 Couture one sleeve sheer ballgown which features a 3D feather inspired feather detail on the neckline and a zebra inspired pattern. I feel like this moment is a major statement moment and Cynthia would definitely be able to sell it to me with ease. Now with this gown I would LOVE to see Cynthia style this gown with her signature bleached buzz cut, thick defined eyes, deep red glossy lips, black Roger Vivier ‘Mini Broche Vivier Buckle’ peep toe platform ankle strap sandals with a chunky clear crystal embellished plexi heel, a Maria Tash ‘Apsara Clicker’ white diamond septum ring, and a selection of MAJOR Djula jewels including a pair of white diamond cluster fan earrings, a single ear with top and side white diamond ear cuffs, and a selection of white diamond rings strewn about all her fingers to really make this another major fashion moment from the powerhouse. Dan Levy has also served up LOOKS this awards season. He’s strayed away from the typical menswear looks wearing canary yellow Valentino Couture wool and sequins for the Globes and victorian military inspired Dior Men for the Critics Choice Awards and each one is a Best Dressed of the Year worthy ensemble. I am expecting him to take home an Actor trophy for Outstanding Performance by an Actor in a Comedy Series this weekend and I want to see him do so in high style. I turned back to Valentino picking this very classic cut black Valentino Fall 2021 RTW tuxedo that was styled with a see through sequin mesh turtleneck on the runway. Now I don’t know if Dan is exactly the see through mesh on no undershirt kind of guy, and I am leaning towards no. So I’ve been wondering what I would like to see. Part of me want’s to see Valentino create a custom black liquid sequin top to layer under it or just go with a classic white t-shirt. Both would be cool moments and I am leaning towards the white t-shirt. His black thick rimmed glasses, the runways black leather boots, and a statement vintage white diamond Harry Winston flower brooch would make this a MAJOR menswear moment for Dan to bring to this “red carpet.”Lily Collins is presenting at this years SAG Awards after helping announce this years nominees. It will be the first time Lily is partaking in a SAG Awards ceremony and I want to se her doing so in flirtatious glamour. I wasn’t the biggest fan of the bohemian glam custom Saint Laurent gown that Lily wore for the Golden Globe Awards. I know she has so much more in her. I would love to see her deliver this black and blush pink ombre asymmetrical Alexander McQueen Resort 2021 a-line cocktail length gown with an asymmetrical neck and a bow detail on the hip. It screams feminine glamour and that is what I feel like Lily serves up the best on the red carpet. While for most red carpets in and out of lockdown I don’t prefer gowns that don’t reach the floor I feel like the SAG Awards that a cocktail length gown is appropriate, especially for a presenter. I feel like with a sleek romantic updo, defined eyes, bold lips using Lancôme L’Absolu Rouge Lipstick Drama Matte in Rose Lancôme, blush pink Alexander McQueen crystal ankle strap sandals, and a pair of Anabela Chan ‘Diamond Supernova’ white diamond, white sapphire, and ivory pearl chandelier earrings would make sure this look is flirty and glamorous from head to toe. Maria Bakalova was one of the new faces among the list of nominees this year and it turns out she is quite the fashionista. She has rocked some major glam moments during awards season so far with a raspberry red crystal embellished tulle Armani Prive ballgown and a black velvet Prada gown with a crystal tassel bow and I cannot wait to see what else lies in store for her over the course of awards season. I feel like custom is in her sights for the SAG Awards. Maybe Gucci or Dior. I wasn’t totally thrilled or inspired with anything that I saw, except for this white Marchesa Spring 2021 RTW orchid purple and grey hand painted floral print ball gown which features a statement crystal embellished halter neckline, open back, a-line skirt, and a sweeping train. I don’t know if Maria would wear Marchesa, but her stylist Jessica Paster would option the brand for other clients so I decided to throw caution to the wind and pick this gorgeous gown for Maria. While Marchesa still has the tainted stain of the Harvey Weinstein scandal on it I think that this moment on Maria would be perfect especially if styled with a sleek side parted updo, defined eyes, soft pink lips, silver crystal embellished Giuseppe Zanotti wrap-around ankle strap sandals, and a pair of sleek and glamorous Graziela Gems ‘Navete’ white diamond wreath hoop earrings.

The 2021 SAG Awards special will broadcast on Sunday April 4, 2021. You can see all my wishes for this years show here.

2021 Critics Choice Awards Red Carpet Wish List Part 7

Check out all these looks I would have loved to see on a red carpet at a regular Critics Choice Awards. The wishes below are a mix of nominees, presenters, and members of productions that are nominated. I am missing all the glamour and drama of awards season, but I am hoping that there are going to be some major fashion moments tonight.

The 2021 Critics Choice Awards will take place on Sunday March 7, 2021. You can find all of my wishes for this red carpet here.

2021 Golden Globe Awards Red Carpet Wish List Part 5

Today is mostly about the cast of The Crown, but also for Emily In Paris. It’s a day all about shows set in Europe that have casts dedicated to high fashion. I am really hoping that we see more broadcast events at the Golden Globe Awards like we saw with the cast of Schitt’s Creek do at the 2020 Emmy Awards. The cast of The Crown would be one of the best to do so. Let’s get into all of today’s wishes shall we?Emma Corrin is my favorite to take home the Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series – Drama trophy. I was enamored by her portrayal of Princess Diana in the fourth season of the anthology series. I am actually very disappointed that will be all she will get as she is being replaced (as is the whole cast) in the shows final two seasons. So I want her, and her stylist Harry Lambert, to have some major fun with fashion during this awards season. As I was looking at the Valentino Pre-Fall 2021 collection and I saw this black silk slip style gown which features thin straps, an open back and a sequined neckline and immediately knew I had found my Globes gown for Emma. Now the more simplistic of this gown might lend itself to more of the Critics Choice or SAG Awards, but I feel like should Emma customize this gown to have a long train behind it to add drama. It would be a very sexy yet sophisticated moment for the young actress to bring to life for her first Golden Globe Awards. I would keep the styling of this look very modern yet glamorous with a sleek side parted updo, defined eyes, bold red lips, a black Jeffrey Levinson ‘Elina Plus’ liquid glitter clutch, a pair of black crystal embellished Valentino ‘Rockstud’ sandals, and a selection of MAJOR Repossi jewels including miss-matched earcuffs one ‘SSV’ 3 row white diamond earcuff and one ‘Luminant’ white diamond and emerald earcuff as well as a ‘Serti Sur Vide’ 2 row white diamond ring, and a ‘Brevis’ 2 pear diamond open ring to really make this a major fashion moment for Emma. Previous Golden Globe Award winner Gillian Anderson’s portrayal of Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher has earned her her sixth nomination. When it comes to fashion Gillian is always one to deliver glamour on the red carpet. I went through several ideas of what I thought I wanted to see from Gillian on this red carpet, but it was ultimately a deep azurite blue Safiyaa Fall 2020 RTW column gown which features an asymmetrical bodice and a crystal embellished cape detail that I thought would be the perfect moment. It is the perfect meshing of classic and modern glamour. It is absolute glamour and I know that with a sleek updo, defined eyes, bold red lips, a dark blue crystal embellished Judith Leiber Couture faceted rectangle clutch, navy glitter Aquazzura gem embellished pointed toe mules, and statement white diamond Dena Kemp leaf drop earrings it would be head to toe perfection. Josh O’Connor is one of the men this awards season I am interested in seeing bring a new and interesting moment to life on the red carpets of awards season. I feel like the title of Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series – Drama is Josh’s to loose and to accept the Globe I would love to see him serve a LOOK. The moment I saw this black Fendi Spring 2021 Couture asymmetrical buttoned up tuxedo with a ring detail on the jacket, cutout details on the cuffs of the sleeves, a white fishnet lace cuff detail, and trousers with a side split I saw it on Josh. It is a fun and fashiony take on the classic tuxedo and I know that Josh has the presence and carriage to bring this look to life. The details in this look are special enough that I wouldn’t add much to it except for a pair of black leather Fendi square toe chelsea boots. Olivia Colman has worn Stella McCartney and Emilia Wickstead on the Golden Globe Awards red carpet the last two years. While I did like the Stella gown well enough the Wickstead last year was horrendous. I know she has some major potential and I want to see her live up to it. As I planned these wishes I thought a lot about re-wearing and to be honest there aren’t many looks that Olivia ha worn that I would actually like to see her bring back to the red carpet. But there was a red Antonio Berardi cap sleeve asymmetric column gown with a small train that Olivia wore for the 2018 Venice Film Festival award ceremony (pictured left) that I could see her bringing back out. Now I still would love to see Olivia bring a glamorous and new moment to the red carpet for the 2021 Golden Globe Awards and so I turned to this midnight blue Alexander McQueen cape detailed chiffon gown with a fitted waist, jewel neck, and an a-line skirt. It is glamorous and dramatic all on it’s own, but I would love to see the team at McQueen modify this dress to have a train to add even more drama. I would finish the look with a chic pixie, defined eyes, dark rose pink lips, a navy velvet Jimmy Choo ‘Ellipse’ crystal trimmed clutch, a pair of black suede Alexander McQueen flower detailed peep toe d’orsay platform pumps, and a DAZZLING vintage 1950’s art deco scroll white diamond necklace to really make this look head to toe perfection.I think that the whole world was shocked that Lily Collins earned a Golden Globe Award nomination thanks to her performance in Emily in Paris. She has been serving up some superb looks while in lockdown and I really want to see her bring a BOLD glamour look for the Golden Globe Awards red carpet. So of course couture had to be my choice. I picked this bold neon yellow strapless ballgown from the Ashi Studio Spring 2021 Couture collection. On first glance this ballgown is all about the color and is a very simplistic look, but from behind it is a bow strap detailed open back. Now it is a big dress and could overwhelm Lily’s petite figure, but I believe that with the right tailoring and styling it would be perfection. I would style this look with a sleek rosette inspired updo embellished with with a white diamond Harry Winston cluster brooch, defined eyes, light pink lips, a pair of silver and gold Casadei ankle strap platform sandals, and a dazzling white marquis cut and yellow diamond cushion cut Harry Winston necklace to really make it a statement making moment for Lily to bring to life for the 2021 Golden Globe Awards.

The 2021 Golden Globe Awards will take place on Sunday February 28, 2021. You can see all of my wishes for this years event here.

2021 AFI Awards Red Carpet Wish List Part 4

Alright. We have reached my final set of wishes for the 2021 AFI Awards. These wishes are just designed to be just that wishes as the event is going virtual this year. Even though the AFI Awards is a much more casual luncheon setting I am still bummed that the in person event had to be canceled due to COVID-19. I enjoy seeing what stars wear to this event just as much as I enjoy the super glamour of the Golden Globe Awards which typically take place the same weekend. It is a little bit of a more relaxed vibe since there aren’t individual honors, but instead just a gathering of those who created the films and television programs being honored. It’s a very celebratory event. So let’s see what I have in store for my wishes shall we?Up first is Mank star Amanda Seyfried. I’ve long been a big fan of Amanda’s style and I definitely would have loved to see what she was going to bring to this red carpet. As I was looking for what I wanted to pick I was also in the midst of archiving images of looks I don’t think have been worn on a red carpet from the 80’s, 90’s, and early 2000’s which is where I found this black pleated Prada sleeveless midi dress which features leather belt banded details. The dress hails from the Prada Fall 2002 RTW collection and is a super chic moment. It is glamorous yet bohemian and I definitely think that speaks to Amanda’s sense of style. As I feel like this dress transcends trends and season it is still perfect for now. It’s a classic. I would style this look for Amanda with soft old Hollywood waves worn over one shoulder, defined eyes, glossy nude pink lips, black and pink rose print Prada pointed toe pumps, and a selection of simple Irene Neuwirth jewels including a pair of one of a king white diamond and blue moonstone angular drop earrings and a matching circular link bracelet to really make this look scream effortless glamour from head to toe. Lily Collins also stars alongside Amanda in Mank and with her fashionista chops I definitely would have loved to see her on this red carpet as well. I love that no matter where she is that Lily is always giving everything that she can on a red carpet. I think that the inner magpie in Lily would be drawn to all the sophisticated frills of the red and black flocked tulle Elie Saab Pre-Fall 2021 mini dress which features long puffed sleeves, a deep V-neck, and layered skirt. It is dark and sexy but still fun and feminine and I think that is why this dress was an easy choice for me to pick for Lily. It is an absolutely beautiful and statement making moment and I know that Lily would wear it with effortless ease. Personally I would finish this look with a sleek side parted updo, defined eyes, soft blush pink lips, statement red patent leather Christian Louboutin ‘Impera 100’ laser cut detail pointed toe strappy pumps, and a bit of sparkle via simple Anita Ko ‘Maya’ white diamond drop earrings. It would all be super glamorous and extra, but still event appropriate. I feel like it’s been a long time since we last saw Jamie Chung on a red carpet. For a while there she as one of the it girls and was always serving looks. So I was excited to see her name on the cast list for Lovecraft Country which the AFI has honored as one of the top television programs of 2020. So I went shopping on the runways for a super chic moment for Jamie to wear on this red carpet and I fell in love with this caramel and white leopard print Ulla Johnson Fall 2020 RTW ruffled dress which features a plunging neckline and an asymmetrical hem. I feel like this fun, flirty moment is definitely in line with the style I remember from Jamie and it would be a super chic moment for the red carpet at an AFI Awards. Now I had a very specific vision for the shoes in this look I wanted business meets fashion and that is exactly what I found in a pair of black and camel Stuart Weitzman ‘Gamma 70’ pointed toe pumps which features a loafer like flap detail and a metal rod embellishment. It would make it a very chic fashionista moment for Jaime. To add the perfect finishing touches to this look I would have styled this dress with a soft curly updo, defined eyes, antique rose pink lips, and a pair of Le Vian raspberry rhodalite, white diamond, and chocolate diamond drop earrings. Jurnee Smollett is also part of the cast of Lovecraft Country and I would definitely have loved to see her style continue to evolve. Last year as she was helping to promote Birds of Prey I really enjoyed seeing her bold and edgy sense of style on the red carpet. Now the red carpet at the AFI Awards isn’t traditionally a space for lots of drama, but she could have still shown a really cool statement look in a more “casual” manner. I would have loved to see her show up to the AFI Awards luncheon wearing this burgundy silk satin ADEAM Fall 2020 RTW pantsuit with a sash belted waist. It screams cool girl chic and I feel like that is exactly what she would have needed to serve a major moment on this red carpet. The color against her skin would be phenomenal and with a chic updo, defined eyes, glossy nude lips, a pair of burgundy suede Christian Louboutin ‘Kate 100’ pointed toe pumps, and statement MATEO NY ‘Blizzard Mobile’ 14k gold and white pearl chandelier earrings that this moment would have screamed edgy boss lady glamour. Sound of Metal star Olivia Cooke has a wonderfully quirky sense of style and is definitely one I would pay attention to if we were having a regular awards season. For the look I would have wanted to see Olivia wearing on the red carpet at the AFI Awards I went for something more cocktail-y than I went for many of the looks in this series of wishes. Since the AFI Awards is a luncheon more casual looks are the norm, but when I saw this white and black Carolina Herrera Spring 2021 RTW embroidered fringe silk organza sleeveless shift dress as I was putting together these wishes I was immediately drawn it it. This isn’t really a look that would work on many red carpets during awards season, but I feel like on Olivia t would be a fun moment for her to bring to the red carpet at the AFI Awards. To make this perfect for a luncheon red carpet I would have Olivia style it with a loose romantic updo, simple defined eyes, bold red lips, a black Saint Laurent tuxedo inspired cape, a black Tyler Ellis ‘Meme Pouch’ lucite top handle and fringe detailed bag, a pair of black Sophia Webster ‘Jasmine’ crystal heel mesh paneled pointed toe pumps, and Swarovski ‘Infinity Pierced’ white crystal drop earrings. On the heels of a Golden Globe and SAG nomination and a Palm Springs Film Festival Award honor I am definitely excited to see what Sound of Metal star Riz Ahmed would be wearing on the red carpets during awards season. For the cancelled AFI Awards red carpet I would have dressed Riz in this grey Dior Men Resort 2021 Menswear single breasted suit with peak lapels, striped detail on the cuffs and waist band paired with a matching stripped button down. It isn’t a boundary pushing menswear moment, but that isn’t really what Riz is about. He does pick things that aren’t always your ‘classics’ but more of things that are classics with a twist. I definitely think that this is that classic with a twist. Now while I don’t totally hate the camel boat style shoes that the look was paired with in the lookbook I would still swap them for a pair of grey suede Christian Louboutin brogues. It would be a really chic menswear moment for sure.

The 2021 AFI Awards will be a virtual event with a benediction on February 26, 2021. You can see Part 1 of this series here, Part 2 here, and Part 3 here.

Fall 2020 Couture Round Up Red Carpet Wish List

Couture this season was VERY different. We saw designers tackle moving presentation digitally in vastly different ways. Dior did a short video editorial and showcased petite mains work on miniatures. Hobeika recorded a show without an audience from his home in Lebanon. Ralph & Russo showed a mix of in person shot lookbook, a digital spokesmodel, and sketches. And most showed smaller paired down collections shot in lookbooks. I would love to see many of these looks on the red carpet so I am hoping that we start seeing red carpets return soon. Two seasons worth of looks are already headed to the archives without being worn. So check out the 61 wishes below I would love to see brought to life on the red carpet from the Fall 2020 Couture collections.

Prada Resort 2021 & Spring 2021 Menswear: Reflections On The Past

Over the summer we have seen a lot of headlines about how COVID-19 has robbed the fashion industry of debuts, but personally I think it is sadder that it robbed us of Miuccia Prada’s final collection as the solo creative director at her namesake label. In September she will be sharing the spotlight with new co-creative director Raf Simons. As per usual Miuccia combined her spring menswear show with her resort collection. The presentation was titled “Multiple Views: The Show That Never Happened.” For the Prada Spring/Summer 2021, a singular statement is replaced by the perspectives of many: multiple views, by a multitude of global creatives. The collection suggests the approach: different views, for a collection that proposes a myriad interpretations of the Prada man and woman. Congruent yet individually delineated, the collection is proposed in five chapters, which in turn are interpreted by five image-makers and artists. Terence Nance, Joanna Piotrowska, Martine Syms, Juergen Teller, and Willy Vanderperre each propose a film capturing a facet of the Prada collection, distinct and definite in its creative statement and ideology, a point of view on Prada.“I think that our job as fashion designers is to create clothes for people, that is the honesty of it. That is really the value of our job — to create beautiful, intelligent clothes. This season, we focused on that idea: it is about clothes, about giving value to pieces,” Prada said. “The clothes are simple — but with the concept of simplicity as an antidote to useless complication. This is a moment that requires some seriousness, a moment to think and to reflect on things. What do we do, what is fashion for, what are we here for? What can fashion contribute, to a community?” We did see one of the simplest Prada collections in quite some time. It hearkened back to the 90’s. Full of nylon, crisp cotton, thick knits with just a sprinkling of floral pattern or texture from lace. It was all very utilitarian, which is a signature in the DNA of the Prada clientele. As we have seen from many designers in the midst of the pandemic Miuccia looked inward and for her final collection as the solo creative she looked back and updated looks she presented as her first in 1988. This collection is timeless and will easily be one of the most collectable collections that she has presented. It is extremely wearable and sellable. I am sure we will see stars fighting to snatch some of these looks up to bring them to the red carpet. Below you are going to find several of my initial wishes to see Hollywood embrace the Prada minimalism on the red carpet.

In his review of the collection for Vogue Runway Luke Leitch wrote “Simplicity can be complicated and complication can be simple.” This statement is perfectly true. Every look in this collection was super simple but executed perfectly. In my in depth research I have definitely seen that looks that seem to be the simplest are in fact the most complicated, especially when you see minimal seaming or seams that are barely visible. I commend that in quarantine that Miuccia and her fabulous ateliers at Prada were able to perfectly execute this collection.

Giambattista Valli Fall 2020 Couture Wish List

As I said in my review of the Giambattista Valli Fall 2020 Couture collection there were a lot of signature styles for the label encompassed in the looks presented. It was froth, drama, and glamour from the first look to the final. When it comes to the red carpet for major events like film festivals and major awards red carpets we do tend to see Giambattista Valli Couture ensembles on the red carpet and as it does seem there will be some sort of in person events for the Venice Film Festival, VMAs, Toronto Film Festival, and the Primetime Emmy Awards coming up there would be several great options below for some stars to bring this collection to life on the red carpet.

Chanel Fall 2020 Couture Red Carpet Wish List

The story of Chanel under Virginie Viard is basically, WHAT THE FUCK. We need to get Virginie out of there. She is too interconnected to Karl Lagerfeld and she doesn’t do Karl like Karl did. No one can. But it is all I continue to see season after season. I am honestly glad that the Chanel Fall 2020 Couture collection was “scaled back” to just 30 looks because I don’t want to know what the construction of the collection would have been had the petite mains had to put work into more creations. I am praying that we are nearing the end of Virginie’s reign. I would love to see what Chanel by Olivier Rousting, Clare Waight Keller, or pretty much anyone else. We are undoubtedly going to see the collection on the red carpet. Check out some of my wishes to see collection on the red carpet below.

50 of the Most ICONIC Red Carpet Looks EVER Part 7

Today we continue with my 50 of the Most ICONIC Red Carpet Looks EVER list. I did my research. The looks in this list are all based on looks that stars wore on red carpets all over the world. Now while some might think of Audrey Hepburn, Marilyn Monroe, Grace Kelly, Katherine Hepburn, Rita Hayworth, and Twiggy when they think of iconic fashion moments. That is true, but you won’t find any of them on these lists. If you’re ready to ask me why I have an answer. Mostly their iconic fashion moments all were created for them by the costume designers contracted by the studios they worked for. I wanted to include only the looks that weren’t planned in conjunction with the studio for their impact. They might have been pulled together by high paid stylist, but not in a way that a studio would craft a look for their star based on the image they wanted them to have. Now this look is only ranked from the oldest to the newest and not based on how iconic I think that the look is. So let’s get into it.31) Cate Blanchett in Armani Prive at the 2014 Golden Globe Awards: Regular readers of If I Was A Stylist may be SHOCKED that I’ve only included one look from my red carpet queen in my ICONIC Red Carpet Looks list. I love Cate, but she doesn’t necessarily push boundaries of fashion. She always delivers glamour. I loved this black lace Armani Prive moment as soon as I saw it. Again it was classic glamour done perfectly to kick off her winning awards season for Blue Jasmine. What I think made this specific gown iconic is the fact that Cate decided to re-use this gown four years later as the gown she wore to the 2018 Cannes Film Festival Opening Ceremony the year she served as the festival jury president. I loved it the first time and while I was initially disappointed she decided to recycle for the opening ceremony I applauded the Eco-Chicness of the option. It was the first time we had seen a major star recycle a major red carpet look for the red carpet and it sparked conversations about Eco-Glam. 32) Lupita Nyong’o in Ralph Lauren at the 2014 Golden Globe Awards: While Lupita Nyong’o had worn all of the major labels and major couture creations while premiering and promoting 12 Years A Slave from the films debut at the 2013 Toronto International Film Festival her real “I’ve arrived” fashion moment was this red Ralph Lauren caped gown at the 2014 Golden Globe Awards. I remember Lupita was the first star to show up. She was giddy and she knew she looked beautiful. This super sleek moment was modern and dramatic all rolled into one major moment. I had high expectations for her to shut down the red carpet come awards season and she kicked it off in the best way possible. 33) Rihanna in Adam Selman at the 2014 CFDA Awards: I mean it makes sense that given the fact that at the 2014 CFDA Awards Rihanna received the Fashion Icon Award and the look she wore on the red carpet to accept the award made this list. The crazy thing to me is that I didn’t include any of her looks prior to 2014 in this list. Honestly when I was building this list there were a lot of Rihanna looks in contention, but I had to weigh against other moments. I ultimately decided that this nude crystal encrusted Adam Selman gown scoop neck gown with a matching durag, and powder pink fur stole evoked a modern idea of Josephine Baker. This is gown is far from the first “Naked Dress” but it is the most successful iteration of the trend of dresses I sometimes wish would go away. If anyone could make me love this look it is Rihanna. 34) Lily Collins in Elie Saab Couture at the 2014 Rome Film Festival: A gown that spawned a thousand copies. If you go to any online evening wear store even now you will find some iteration of this dramatically glamorous Elie Saab Couture strapless hand painted ombre gown that Lily Collins wore to the 2014 Rome Film Festival. This look is super glamorous and elegant, but it really is the consumer aspect of this gown that to me makes it an ICONIC moment. 35) Emma Stone in Christian Dior Couture by Raf Simons at the 2015 SAG Awards: This awards season Emma Stone was making the rounds promoting Birdman. She spent most of the season wearing looks that were menswear inspired. Many will say that her Lanvin jumpsuit at the Golden Globes was more iconic, but personally I thought this custom black tuxedo inspired Christian Dior Couture by Raf Simons was so much better. It was sleek, sheer, powerful, and sexy all rolled into one dramatic package. The gown itself was perfection all on it’s own, but with the sleek updo, perfect makeup, and the asymmetric earrings I really fell in love with this look and it narrowly missed out on my 2015 Best Dressed of the Year list.

Bringing Back 90’s Fashion: Yves Saint Laurent

While I was working on my Met Gala wishes I found so many major moments from the runways of the 90’s. So while I was trying to come up with things to talk about here on If I Was A Stylist now that events have slowed down I thought why not talk about some of the favorite looks I’ve seen some of those 90’s collections. Today it is all about the archives of Yves Saint Laurent for when the houses namesake was still at the helm. I’ve already shown some of them in my Met Gala and Cannes wishes. I adore the looks I picked from the brands archives so far for Zoe Kravitz to wear for the Met as well as the gowns I picked for Julianne Moore and Amber Valletta. The five looks below are some more moments I would love to see brought out of the archive and given major red carpet fashion moments. It has been years since Diane Kruger last wore anything from Saint Laurent. She actually hasn’t worn a single look from the brand since Heidi Slimane upended the legacy of the brand. But when I was looking at this major red Yves Saint Laurent Spring 1993 Couture strapless tea length gown with a big bow detail I knew that someone like Diane would be needed to make this a major moment. I feel like while this look isn’t an easy look for anyone to pull off I feel like Diane is one of the only people out there who could make this look come to life on a red carpet. A sleek updo, defined eyes, soft pink lips, a red crystal embellished Jimmy Choo ‘Cloud’ clutch, a pair of red Gianvito Rossi ‘Glam’ crystal embellished ankle strap satin sandals, and dazzling Cartier High Jewelry white diamond floral cluster earrings with ruby cabochon pendant drops would all ensure that this look SCREAMS dramatic glamour on the red carpet. I was looking at this perfectly tailored red Yves Saint Laurent Spring 1995 Couture long sleeve column gown which features a dramatic plunging neckline and it was easily a favorite look of mine. It just screams sophistication. I imagined Zoe Saldana wearing the look and I was sold. This gown screams elegance and glamour and I definitely think that Zoe would have be able to sell this look to me with effortless ease for an awards event like the SAG Awards or a gala event like amfAR. This sleek and sophisticated gown styled with a sleek updo, smokey eyes, nude glossy lips, a red, black, and white beaded Valentino clutch, a pair of red suede Jimmy Choo ‘Mimi’ strappy sandals, and a statement white diamond and ruby Van Cleef & Arpels High Jewelry ‘Rivieres’ necklace would definitely have brought this look to life perfectly. Lily Collins has been a friend to Saint Laurent for a while now. I would love to see Lily give us a beautiful archive couture moment from the brand. She loves a princess moment on the red carpet so when I was looking at this hot pink Yves Saint Laurent Spring 1996 Couture strapless ballgown which features a belted waist and a ruched detail on the skirt I thought it would look absolutely beautiful on Lily. It is a super glamorous gown and one I definitely think that Lily has the presence to make this a really glamorous fashion moment especially if styled with a loose romantic updo, defined eyes, soft pink lips, a pair of hot pink Jimmy Choo ‘Katie’ strappy crustal embellished strappy sandals, and a statement Tiffany & Co. by Jean Schlumberger 18k gold set white diamond, pink rubellite, and turquoise floral collar necklace. When she isn’t living up to her duties as a Dior ambassador Charlize Theron is usually wearing one of the other LVMH labels like Celine, Givenchy, and Louis Vuitton. But occasional she betrays the LVMH family and gives us a major Saint Laurent look on the red carpet. She isn’t really one for vintage, but if she was I would have wanted to see her bring this black Yves Saint Laurent Fall 1997 Couture strapless pencil dress with intricate silver floral embellishment down the sides and on on the neckline. The look is glamorous and sexy and that is exactly what Charlize needs to bring to life on the red carpet to have successful fashion moments on the red carpet. It would be elevated even further with a sleek side parted pixie, defined eyes, nude lips, a black and silver Saint Laurent monogram bracelet box bag, a pair of black Christian Louboutin ‘So Me’ silver spike studded ankle strap sandals, and Messika High Jewelry ‘Wild Mood’ white diamond half wreath earrings. Often times she tries to give us more bohemian looks (especially since Maria Grazia took over the reigns at Dior) and it just doesn’t work. So Charlize I’m imploring you. Please snatch this dress out of the YSL archives and give it a major red carpet moment. The final look I’ve included in these wishes is the only one that didn’t come from the 90’s couture runways. I am definitely about this black velvet column gown from the Yves Saint Laurent Fall 1997 RTW collection which features a rounded plunging neckline, long sleeves, and a red rose detail. It has been a look I would imagine that Anthony Vaccarello has put on his inspiration board for collections over and over again. It delvers a sense of sleek, powerful, and sexy femininity. That is the core of the YSL woman. When I saw this gown in the archive Rosamund Pike immediately came to mind. I believe that this look would make for a major movie premiere, film festival, or awards season red carpet moment. I would let the gown be the center of the look styling it with a sleek updo, defined eyes, bold red lips, black patent leather Saint Laurent ‘Tribute 105’ platform ankle strap sandals, and a pair of glamorous vintage Bulgari white diamond and ruby floral ear clips. It would be the embodiment of strong, sexy, confident glamour from head to toe.

So now tell me which of these five looks would you most want to see on a red carpet? Who else would you like to see wearing them?
