2021 SAG Awards Red Carpet Wish List Part 2

It has been a whirlwind this year seeing how the different major award shows adapted to still go on amidst the global pandemic. There was the hybrid virtual nominees and in person presenters presented from both coast of the United States, the fully remote Critics Choice Awards, and the scaled back yet in person Grammy Awards. Each award show so far has taken their own path with accommodating the public health orders across the country and the world. The Screen Actors Guild has decided not to do any sort of live event, which is totally different. Instead they will be airing a one hour special that will be pre-recoreded. So these wishes are really just thoughts about what I would like to see as I am sure that portions of the show have already been recorded. As we move closer to this weekends event let’s dive into the wishes I have today for looks I would love to see worn for the SAG Awards. Anya Taylor Joy’s performance as Beth Harmon in The Queen’s Gambit has earned her both a Golden Globe and a Critics Choice Award. She has done so turning back to the same label Christian Dior Couture for both shows. It would not surprise me in the least if she will not be the next face of Dior, maybe the Miss Dior fragrance. It would actually shock me if Anya wore anything other than Dior for the SAG Awards special. I’ve loved this white and black sequined silk tulle Christian Dior Fall 2020 Couture spaghetti strap tea length ballgown since I first saw it. It was presented as a miniature collection on doll sized mannequins, but I would love to see the Dior ateliers take this miniature and create the full version for Anya. It is glamorous and sophisticated with a little bit of sex appeal. The vintage inspired nature of this gown blends together the iconic style sensibilities of both Audrey Hepburn and Marilyn Monroe. To really make this look perfection I would style it with a sleek rose inspired updo, defined eyes, bold red lips, a pair of white satin Aquazzura ‘Celeste 105’ strappy crystal embellished sandals, and a selection of Bulgari jewels including simple white diamond and emerald drop earrings and a delicate white diamond ‘Wings of Rome’ feather inspired necklace. It would be DRAMA and GLAMOUR defined. Cynthia Erivo has shown up for the Golden Globes, Critics Choice, and Grammy Awards this year and has served a MAJOR look at each. For the Globes she wore a neon green Valentino Couture neoprene tea length gowncustom lace and tulle Vera Wang for the Critics Choice Awards, and then a gorgeous silver and gold sequin and bead embellished custom Louis Vuitton gown for the Grammy’s. Each look she’s served could easily be a Best Dressed of the Year contender and I cannot wait to see what she has in store for us next when she is a presenter at the SAG Awards this weekend. I would love to see Cynthia go for bold dazzle wearing this black and silver Elie Saab Spring 2021 Couture one sleeve sheer ballgown which features a 3D feather inspired feather detail on the neckline and a zebra inspired pattern. I feel like this moment is a major statement moment and Cynthia would definitely be able to sell it to me with ease. Now with this gown I would LOVE to see Cynthia style this gown with her signature bleached buzz cut, thick defined eyes, deep red glossy lips, black Roger Vivier ‘Mini Broche Vivier Buckle’ peep toe platform ankle strap sandals with a chunky clear crystal embellished plexi heel, a Maria Tash ‘Apsara Clicker’ white diamond septum ring, and a selection of MAJOR Djula jewels including a pair of white diamond cluster fan earrings, a single ear with top and side white diamond ear cuffs, and a selection of white diamond rings strewn about all her fingers to really make this another major fashion moment from the powerhouse. Dan Levy has also served up LOOKS this awards season. He’s strayed away from the typical menswear looks wearing canary yellow Valentino Couture wool and sequins for the Globes and victorian military inspired Dior Men for the Critics Choice Awards and each one is a Best Dressed of the Year worthy ensemble. I am expecting him to take home an Actor trophy for Outstanding Performance by an Actor in a Comedy Series this weekend and I want to see him do so in high style. I turned back to Valentino picking this very classic cut black Valentino Fall 2021 RTW tuxedo that was styled with a see through sequin mesh turtleneck on the runway. Now I don’t know if Dan is exactly the see through mesh on no undershirt kind of guy, and I am leaning towards no. So I’ve been wondering what I would like to see. Part of me want’s to see Valentino create a custom black liquid sequin top to layer under it or just go with a classic white t-shirt. Both would be cool moments and I am leaning towards the white t-shirt. His black thick rimmed glasses, the runways black leather boots, and a statement vintage white diamond Harry Winston flower brooch would make this a MAJOR menswear moment for Dan to bring to this “red carpet.”Lily Collins is presenting at this years SAG Awards after helping announce this years nominees. It will be the first time Lily is partaking in a SAG Awards ceremony and I want to se her doing so in flirtatious glamour. I wasn’t the biggest fan of the bohemian glam custom Saint Laurent gown that Lily wore for the Golden Globe Awards. I know she has so much more in her. I would love to see her deliver this black and blush pink ombre asymmetrical Alexander McQueen Resort 2021 a-line cocktail length gown with an asymmetrical neck and a bow detail on the hip. It screams feminine glamour and that is what I feel like Lily serves up the best on the red carpet. While for most red carpets in and out of lockdown I don’t prefer gowns that don’t reach the floor I feel like the SAG Awards that a cocktail length gown is appropriate, especially for a presenter. I feel like with a sleek romantic updo, defined eyes, bold lips using Lancôme L’Absolu Rouge Lipstick Drama Matte in Rose Lancôme, blush pink Alexander McQueen crystal ankle strap sandals, and a pair of Anabela Chan ‘Diamond Supernova’ white diamond, white sapphire, and ivory pearl chandelier earrings would make sure this look is flirty and glamorous from head to toe. Maria Bakalova was one of the new faces among the list of nominees this year and it turns out she is quite the fashionista. She has rocked some major glam moments during awards season so far with a raspberry red crystal embellished tulle Armani Prive ballgown and a black velvet Prada gown with a crystal tassel bow and I cannot wait to see what else lies in store for her over the course of awards season. I feel like custom is in her sights for the SAG Awards. Maybe Gucci or Dior. I wasn’t totally thrilled or inspired with anything that I saw, except for this white Marchesa Spring 2021 RTW orchid purple and grey hand painted floral print ball gown which features a statement crystal embellished halter neckline, open back, a-line skirt, and a sweeping train. I don’t know if Maria would wear Marchesa, but her stylist Jessica Paster would option the brand for other clients so I decided to throw caution to the wind and pick this gorgeous gown for Maria. While Marchesa still has the tainted stain of the Harvey Weinstein scandal on it I think that this moment on Maria would be perfect especially if styled with a sleek side parted updo, defined eyes, soft pink lips, silver crystal embellished Giuseppe Zanotti wrap-around ankle strap sandals, and a pair of sleek and glamorous Graziela Gems ‘Navete’ white diamond wreath hoop earrings.

The 2021 SAG Awards special will broadcast on Sunday April 4, 2021. You can see all my wishes for this years show here.

2021 Golden Globe Awards Red Carpet Wish List Part 15

Well. The 2021 Golden Globe Awards are tomorrow night. In a normal world there would be a ballroom packed full of stars, but well COVID has killed that for all of awards season this year. So instead of writing about the stars who are part of the casts of films and television programs that are nominated, plus ones, and people whom I would usually expect to see on this red carpet I thought I would just put a gallery of wishes together. So as the words to “Audition” from LA LA Land goes “Here’s to the fools who dream, foolish as they may seem.”

2021 Palm Springs International Film Festival Black Tie Awards Red Carpet Wish List Part 2

Today’s wishes for the sadly cancelled red carpet at the 2021 Palm Springs International Film Festival Black Tie Awards Gala is all about the tuxedo. The tuxedo is such a staple, but the three below are all just a little different and stray away from the classic cut just enough to be interesting. On men and women the tuxedo is a staple and I definitely love to see a major tuxedo moment on the red carpet. So let’s see what the wishes for today are shall we?Nomadland director Chloe Zhao was given the honor of Director of the Year from the Palm Springs International Film Festival. As I’ve previously said having looked at Chloe’s style she isn’t really one to get all dolled up and dressed to the 9’s so I feel like this awards season from home is perfect for her. I would love to have seen what she would have brought to the red carpets though. In my Globes wish I went for dazzle with a Tom Ford sequined gown, but I had already picked this black Thom Brown Pre-Fall 2021 shrunken tuxedo for her to wear for this red carpet when I made that pick. This tuxedo seems like it might have been a little more authentic for Chloe and I definitely think that it would have been a cool moment for her. Now I would have styled this look with a sleek low bun, barely there makeup, and a pair of black crystal embellished Thom Browne ‘Opera’ loafers to make it perfect for this red carpet. Eddie Redmayne is part of the cast of The Trial of the Chicago 7 which is being honored with the Vanguard Award. When it comes to my own personal style icons I have several of Eddie’s past red carpet looks on my mood board, though ever since his Oscar run it’s been a lot more on the safe side. I want to see him take risks again. I want to see him wear different things again. So I decided to push the envelope a little bit with this black Alexander McQueen Fall 2020 Menswear collection tuxedo which features a blazer on a blazer jacket. The jacket is definitely very “fashion” I feel like it wouldn’t work for many of the mainstream red carpets during awards season like the Golden Globes or the Oscars, but I definitely think it would be a great option for a red carpet like the Palm Springs International Film Festival Black Tie Awards Gala. I would love this tuxedo without a bow tie and a pair of black leather Alexander McQueen logo engraved silver heel-plaque detailed oxfords. Joseph Gordon Levitt would have most likely joined Eddie, and some of his other The Trial of the Chicago 7 co-stars on the red carpet at the Palm Springs International Film Festival. I don’t know what it was about Joseph that really made me want to include him in these wishes. He isn’t one that pushes boundaries very often. I didn’t push the boundaries with my wish either opting for this navy wool & mohair Prada shawl collar one button tuxedo. It is a chic classic tuxedo moment and I feel that the color would be enough boundary pushing for Joseph Gordon Levitt. I would style this tuxedo with a classic white pleated tuxedo shirt, a black silk bow tie, a pair of black polished saffiano leather Prada lace up oxfords, and a black Prada enameled triangle logo pin with saffiano leather trim to make this an uber chic menswear moment. Now I couldn’t go a whole post without a gown. Have you met me? Or at least been a regular reader? I am a lover of glamour and gowns so of course there had to be one included in today’s wishes. Caitlin Fitzgerald is also a part of the cast of The Trial of the Chicago 7 and while the Screen Actors Guild didn’t include her in the list of cast eligible for the Best Ensemble Cast I still would have loved to see her on red carpets this awards season. She is a statuesque beauty who I feel like would deliver some uber chic moments on the red carpet. For the Palm Springs International Film Festival Black Tie Awards Gala I would have loved to see Caitlin wearing this light dove grey Marchesa Spring 2021 RTW satin halter gown which features in incredibly intricate crystal embellished neckline, open back, and a column silhouette. The gown is just simplistic glamour but that neckline really does pack a whole lot of punch. A sleek updo, defined eyes, bold red lips, a silver sequin embellished Jimmy Choo ‘Cloud’ clutch, a pair of strappy silver metallic leather Alexandre Vauthier ‘Jourdan’ crystal tassel embellished sandals, and a selection of simple Norman Silverman jewels including double halo set white diamond square stud earrings and a white diamond mixed fancy shape bracelet would make this look ooze glamour from head to toe.

“Godzilla vs. King Kong” Premiere Red Carpet Wish List

As much as I get annoyed every time a movie studio announces a blockbuster has been pushed back I am disappointed that Godzilla vs King Kong won’t be getting a red carpet premiere. While personally I don’t really care for the movie itself the cast is PHENOMENAL. I just look at the names in this cast and think about all the possible fashion moments as they criss-crossed the universe promoting the film. Hopefully the stars of this movie will still do some sort of lockdown premiere and will still serve looks. So the wishes below are things I would definitely love to see the stars of the film wear for lockdown premieres or well they are just wishes that will remain just that wishes. KiKicking off these wishes is the gorgeous Danai Gurira. I’ve been a huge fan of Danai’s style for a really long time and I am always excited to see what she will bring to the red carpet. When I was thinking about what I wanted to see Danai wear for this red carpet I was picturing a really dramatic moment. What’s the centerpiece of that look? This gold tiered Cong Tri Spring 2021 RTW halter gown is a major look and I can just imagine the inner magpie within Danai would definitely be drawn to this gown. It isn’t a standard look and that’s what I love so much about it. Now on many I would go very simple and sleek with the styling allowing the gown to be the focal moment of the look, but for Danai I really want to see her go for the gold. Styling this look with an avant garde twist updo, thick black winged eyes with gold shadow, deep red glossy lips, a pair of gold Aquazzura ‘Bow Tie’ pointed toe pumps, and a selection of Ana Khouri jewels including a ‘Camille’ 18k yellow gold curved drop ear cuff detailed with a single pink sapphire in one ear, a ‘Mirian’ 18k yellow gold set white diamond ear cuff in the other, and a ‘Maia’ 18k yellow gold and white diamond cocktail ring would definitely make this a MAJOR fashion moment. Two years ago I was watching Millie Bobby Brown shut down red carpets as she made the international rounds promoting Godzilla: King of the Monsters. She gave us major moments in Oscar de la Renta, Givenchy Couture, Christian Dior Couture, and Valentino. It was where I felt Millie really started to grow up in front of our eyes. At 16 I want to see Millie wearing fun youthful looks that can still speak to the megawatt fashion girl that she has become. I immediately thought of this sunset orange Giambattista Valli Spring 2021 Couture strapless gown which features intricate 3D flower detailed down a ruched bodice and a dramatic high low ball skirt. This gown scream teenage fashion queen and I think that it would be a major moment for Millie for sure. We haven’t really seen Millie wear strapless on the red carpet. It can make it seem like she is trying to hard to be older than she is, but I think that the overall vibe of this gown definitely screams youth so I’m not concerned about that especially if she were to style this look with a loose curly romantic updo, soft defined eyes, blush pink lips, a pair of champagne gold Rene Caovilla crystal embellished satin sandals, and Tiffany & Co. drop earrings in 18k gold with imperial topaz and diamonds from the 2019 Blue Book Collection.Rebecca Hall has an amazing sense of style so I was definitely excited to see her name on the cast list for Godzilla vs. King Kong. I immediately knew what I wanted to pick for Rebecca. I really would have loved to see her give us sleek and sexy glamour wearing this black liquid sequin Alexandre Vauthier Spring 2021 RTW column gown with a cutout back and a center split. It is definitely a signature Vauthier gown, but isn’t the crystal embellished jersey draped gowns we are used to seeing from Vauthier RTW and that is a refreshing change. I feel like Rebecca would definitely take this gown and make it a major fashion moment with a sleek side parted updo, defined eyes, bold red lips, a black velvet Judith Leiber Couture ‘Soho’ crystal clasp clutch, a pair of black crystal embellished PVC Christian Louboutin ‘Spikaqueen 100’ pointed toe ankle strap sandals, and a STATEMENT white diamond and emerald Bulgari ‘Barocko’ collection collar necklace. Like Millie we Zhang Ziyi giving lots of looks while promoting Godzilla: King of the Monsters wearing looks from Alex Perry, Chanel, and Ulyana Sergeenko Couture. She knows glamour and drama and I know that she would have served a major fashion moment had there been a red carpet premiere for Godzilla vs. King Kong. As I was starting to think about what I wanted to see Zhang wear on this red carpet I kept going back to the idea of her giving us a big poufy Marchesa moment. Well the most recent collections didn’t fulfill my wishes so I decided to start diving into the brands archives and when I saw this black strapless tea length gown which features a sweetheart neckline, ruched corseted bodice, and flower embellishment from the Marchesa Fall 2018 RTW collection I knew I had found the perfect dress. This gown comes from the collection that was released right after the trajectory of Marchesa changed forever due to the Weinstein scandal and many gorgeous gowns were sent to the archive. I feel that Zhang would be the perfect person to pull this gown out of that archive and finally give it the red carpet moment it deserves. A sleek bun updo, defined eyes, antique rose pink lips, a pair of black satin Sophia Webster ‘Natalia’ crystal heel ankle strap platform sandals, and a selection of Chopard jewels including paisley inspired white diamond teardrop earrings and a ‘Precious Lace’ white and pink diamond cocktail ring would most definitely make sure that this look is glamour defined from head to toe.

Godzilla vs. King Kong will hit theaters and HBO Max on Wednesday March 31, 2021.

Dream Inaugural Ball for President Joe Biden Red Carpet Wish List Part 1

Unfortunately, but not surprisingly, due to COVID-19 the standard Inaugural Balls held on the night the President of the United States is sworn into office have been cancelled. Well. Since we have to continue to dream I am going to still put wishes out into the universe for those who definitely would have and who I would have liked to see attend the balls. Over the next couple of days I will be mixing political figures with stars who were part of the Joe Biden campaign to show you some of the looks I would have loved to see them bring to life for my dream inaugural ball. Today’s looks are all about glamour, elegance, but most importantly American based design labels. As I said yesterday I feel like First Lady Dr. Jill Biden is secretly a real fashion girl and I cannot wait to see what she will be wearing for her FLOTUS duties over the next four years. I would have loved to see Dr. Biden step out onto the stage with President Biden wearing this black Carolina Herrera Spring 2021 RTW stretch fluid crepe trumpet gown which features a sleeveless fitted bodice detailed with bows and a dramatic hem. It is a super glamorous moment and I definitely believe that Dr. Biden would look phenomenal. It is a very Audrey Hepburn moment and I think that styled with a sleek side parted updo, defined eyes bold red lips, a pair of black sheer embellished lace Jimmy Choo ‘Love 100’ pointed toe pumps, and simple yet dazzling Harry Winston white diamond and blue sapphire drop earrings that Dr. Biden would definitely have had a winning fashion moment on her hands. For the Vice President Kamala Harris I wanted to play to a couple of different sensibilities. When it comes to dressing Kamala is very matronly for sure. There are people out there that prove that you can be modest and dress “age appropriate” and still embrace the fashion factor. I wanted to play to Kamala’s heritage paying homage to her black and Indian roots with her inaugural ball ensemble. So I turned to a black designer to create the gown which is this bold violet purple silk Christopher John Rogers Fall 2020 RTW collection draped long sleeve gown which features a dramatic sash cape. The sash cape gave me a bit of sari vibe and I just feel like this color on Kamala would be amazing. Now where this look would really come together is in the styling. This gown has the possibility to feel very matronly, but with the right styling it would be super chic. A soft updo, defined smokey eyes, dark red glossy lips, purple satin Tom Ford pointed toe pumps, and a nod to her famous pearls with dazzling white diamond and pearl ‘Princess Fantasy’ chandelier earrings from Indian jewelry designer Farah Khan would definitely make this look absolutely PHENOMENAL from head to toe. Pete Buttigieg is Joe Biden’s nominee to be the next Secretary of Transportation and I personally love him. So I felt like I had to include him and his husband Chasten in my wishes for what the inaugural ball could have been. While they might be gay neither Pete nor Chasten are what I would consider to be ‘flashy.’ So I wanted to pick two very chic complimentary looks for them to wear had they attended the inaugural ball. For Chasten I went with something a little left of normal picking a Ralph Lauren tuxedo with a deep purple velvet tuxedo jacket. It isn’t something normal, but I feel like Washington needs some fun infused into their stuffy style. It would stand out in a room full of men in classic black and white penguin suits, but the cut and styling would be kept very classic so I definitely think it would be a perfect look, especially as the plus one of a Cabinet Secretary designate. Now for Pete I went with something a little more classic with a black Ralph Lauren tuxedo that has a cropped jacket inspired by the cut of a tailcoat, without the tails. The look keeps the classic tail coat styling of the low cut waistcoat and the onyx shirt studs. It is a little more military-esque but I feel like it would be a really chic moment for Pete. I cannot remember ever seeing a former First Lady attend the inaugural ball of a new president, but given the fact that I adore seeing Michelle Obama in a gown I knew I had to include her in my dream guest list for an inaugural ball. I always loved seeing what gowns she would bring to life and I went through several options for her to wear for this event. I decided to finish on this black Oscar de la Renta Resort 2021 strapless column gown which features a draped rosette detail down the back. It is a very chic and elegant moment and I know that Michelle would wear it with elegance and ease. A sleek updo, smokey eyes, glossy ruby red lips, a pair of black Christian Louboutin ‘Galativi’ crystal trimmed and mesh paneled pointed toe pumps, and a statement Bulgari ‘Barroko’ Collection white diamond and emerald high jewelry collar necklace. The necklace is definitely a bit more than we are seeing, but I think it would be the perfect touch to really make this moment major. Eva Longoria was one of the hosts of the 2020 Democratic National Convention and was out on the campaign trail even in spite of the pandemic to support Joe Biden. She will also participate in a prime time inauguration concert special the night of the inauguration, so it would have come as a real surprise to not see her at one of the inaugural balls had this been a normal year. I haven’t loved a look that Eva has worn in a really long time and I would have wanted to see that dramatic diva side of her style on display had she stepped out for a ball. Marchesa was once a go to designer for Eva and I feel like it is time for her to make a return to the brand. I immediately thought of this hand painted pink and white peony print silk Marchesa Spring 2021 RTW one shoulder draped gown which features a relaxed fit, fitted bodice, and a dramatic train detail and know that it would be perfect for Eva especially if styled with a romantic updo, soft smokey eyes, matte rose pink lips,  metallic pink and gold Roger Vivier ‘Vivier Queen Strass’ strappy sandals, and a pair of statement Anabela Chan fuchsia ombre waterfall earrings made of pale rose sapphire, fuchsia pink sapphires, rose tourmalines, and white diamonds.Mindy Kaling did a couple of virtual events for Joe Biden and Kamala Harris over the course of the campaign. Upon the announcement of Kamala Harris as the VP selections Mindy tweeted “Was there ever more of an exciting day? For our entire country of course, but especially for my Black and Indian sisters, many of us who have gone our entire lives thinking that someone who looks like us may never hold high office? We work so hard and contribute to the fabric of our lives in America, & now to see @SenKamalaHarris rise to the top like this? It’s thrilling!! I am filled with hope and excitement. Thank you @JoeBiden. Let’s do this.” So I really would have loved to see her attend one of the inaugural balls. I went with one of my favorite color combos with this red Badgley Mischka Spring 2021 RTW column gown with hot pink puffy sleeves and an intricately pleated bodice and a sweetheart neckline. Mindy has always been one to love bringing color to her looks and I definitely can imagine this being a superb moment. A sleek updo, defined eyes, red lips, a red satin Tyler Ellis ‘Perry’ faceted clutch, a pair of red suede Aquazzura ‘Aria 105’ strappy pointed toe pumps, and some statement Chopard Red Carpet Collection jewels including white diamond and ruby paisley inspired drop earrings and a dazzling white diamond and ruby cuff bracelet watch would make sure that Mindy had a phenomenal moment on her hands.

2020 Emmy Awards Red Carpet Wish List

Well, I was SWAMPED with my actual job lately and I’ve been neglecting If I Was A Stylist as a result. That means that even though I had 14 posts planned for the 2020 Emmy Awards, which take place tonight, all I was able to do is this all in gallery for the nominees, presenters, and cast members of nominated projects. I am really interested to see how the Emmy’s will work from home with production kits sent to over 130 different locations. How will the fashion fare? We saw the fashion factor happen for the VMA’s and then Venice Film Festival actually happened in person and I was THRILLED. So in my wishes for this years event I’ve pulled looks hot off the runway this past week during NYFW, things shown seasons ago, as well as several looks I would love to see stars pull out of their archives and give another go. So check out my 54 wishes below and let me know which ones you would most like to see come true.

2020 Cannes Film Festival What Could Have Been Wish List: “Tenet”

Christopher Nolan’s latest film Tenet seemed to be destined for a gala opening at the 2020 Cannes Film Festival. The director has screened at the festival several times over the years and was heavily rumored, and all but confirmed by the festival director, to have nabbed one of the coveted spots this year. Instead Warner Bros. Pictures is hoping that with a new release date of July 17, 2020 that the film will spark people’s return to the movies this summer reviving the theatrical box office. Tenet is an action epic revolving around international espionage, time travel, and evolution. Possibly about a man trying to prevent World War 3 through time travel and rebirth. It sounds like a great storyline, and I am interested to see it when it finally releases, but until then let’s fantasize about what could have been in Cannes shall we? 2020 Cannes Film Festival What Could Have Been Wish List: “On The Rocks”

Especially in the last two years the Cannes Film Festival has come under fire for not giving its fair shake to female directors. From all the articles I’ve read it seemed like Cannes 2020 was going to be a lot more equitable to female directors than ever before. One film I saw talked about was Sofia Coppola’s On The Rocks a New York-set father-daughter dramedy that reunites her with longtime muse Bill Murray. Indiewire said the film seemed more committed to Venice than Cannes and Awards Daily said Coppola would “most likely be welcomed back” thanks to this film. Sofia is no stranger to Cannes three of her four feature films since Lost in Translation debuted in Cannes while the other debuted in Venice like Lost In Translation. So really it was a coin flip to see if the film would have made the cut for Cannes. When it comes to style Sofia Coppola isn’t one I would usually see her topping any Best of Cannes lists. She doesn’t embody the Cannes motto of “go big or go home” in the least bit. Simple and elegant is the code that Sofia sticks to. The two looks I wanted to see her wearing in Cannes to promote On The Rocks easily fit into that box. For the photocall I went to Sofia’s good friend Marc Jacobs and this winter white boxy trompe l’oiel wool dress which features drop-waist silhouette, round neck, princess sleeves, bow back, flared skirt, and a mini hemline from his Fall 2020 RTW collection. The simple dress is chic and I definitely see it as something 100% within her wheelhouse. It would be perfectly put together in Sofia’s way with a loose wavy center parted bob, casual defined eyes, and soft matte blush pink lips. The finishing touch I would add to this look that would definitely just elevate Sofia’s style via a pair of mustard yellow satin Roger Vivier ‘Broche’ chunky low heel embellished buckle satin pointed toe slingbacks. For the premiere I went again for something just a little more surprising for Sofia, a floor length gown. Usually Sofia picks a knee or tea length gown even for the most formal of red carpets, but when I saw this glamorous navy silk satin Chanel Fall 2019 Couture halter gown which features a black patent belted waist I knew that it would have been a major moment for her to wear for a Cannes Film Festival premiere. This gown is minimalist glamour defined which means the styling has to be perfect. So I would finish this look with a sleek side parted low bun, defined eyes, red lips, a navy satin Roger Vivier floral crystal embellished buckle clutch, a pair of navy and black satin Roger Vivier ‘Viv Bling’ strappy platform sandals, and simple white diamond Chopard Red Carpet Collection teardrop earrings. Jenny Slate has never been to Cannes before and honestly I don’t know what it would have brought. Her stylist Monty Jackson isn’t one I think of being able to really handle Cannes in the major way. I would hope he would be able to deliver, but I’m not sure he would. When it comes to her red carpet style her past really didn’t inform the future much for what I wanted to see her wearing for her Cannes debut. So as I was looking I found two super chic Marchesa moments I think would definitely put Jenny on top Cannes worthy form. For the On The Rocks photocall I wanted to see Jenny wearing this Marchesa Pre-Fall 2020 ensemble which features a watercolor floral print cotton corset top with a square neckline, mutton sleeves, and ruffled trim and a pair of black cotton high-rise, straight-leg, dual slit pocket pants. The look is flirty and sophisticated. The perfect balance of bohemian and structure. I think that Jenny would definitely rock this look for the photocall styled with a bouncy teased curls, defined eyes, soft pink lips, black Sophia Webster ‘Dina’ multicolored gem embellished PVC strap mules, and a pair of Atelier Swarovski vintage rose pink, white, and sunshine yellow crystal ‘Botanical Jewels by Penelope Cruz’ teardrop earrings. For the premiere I looked at this dusty dark teal blue and nude Marchesa Fall 2020 RTW ruffled tulle ballgown which features a plunging v-neckline, a sleeveless a-line silhouette, plunging open back, a tiered ruffled skirt, and crystal embellishment throughout. The gown is just a classic Marchesa moment and I think that would have been a perfect option for Jenny to wear for her first trip up those famous steps of the Palais de Festivals. To complete this look I would style it with a sleek chignon updo, smokey eyes, dark rose pink lips, a pair of black Sophia Webster ‘Giovanna’ glittered leather slingback sandals, and a statement white diamond asymmetrical Butani draped 5 row necklace. It would ensure that Jenny delivered nothing but glamour from head to toe for her Cannes debut. Rashida Jones also stars in On The Rocks and would have been making her Cannes Film Festival debut this year. I usually either love or loathe what Rashida is wearing on the red carpet. I was hoping to see Rashida bring her a-game to Cannes. For the photocall I turned to The Vampire’s Wife, but with a different look than we are used to seeing from the brand thanks to this pink rose liberty print ‘The Kaftan’ cotton dress which features a high pussy-bow neckline, statement balloon sleeves, a self-tie belted waist, and a pleated midi skirt. This looks speaks to the more bohemian side of Rashida’s style and would have been perfect for the Cannes photocall platform overlooking the French Riviera. Style it with a wavy bob, defined eyes, nude lips, a pair of ballet pink Jimmy Choo ‘LOVE’ asymmetrical crystal embellished pointed toe suede pumps, and Jennifer Meyer small pink sapphire embellished 18k yellow gold hoop earrings to make a great casual moment for Rashida. For the premiere I went for something that speaks more to the sleek and glamorous side of Rashida’s style with this black long sleeve Valentino Spring 2020 Couture fitted gown which features silver crystal circles down the sides of the arms and and body. Now those circles expose the skin underneath on the runway, but that isn’t something that Rashida would be down for. So I would have the ones down the sides of the body lined. I don’t think that would make the gown loose any of it’s runway appeal and would make it perfect for Rashida. Of course I would also make sure that this gown hits the floor perfectly for Rashida as well. To put the perfect finishing touches on this look I would style this gown with a sleek bob, defined eyes, bold red lips, a black ostrich feather embellished Jimmy Choo ‘Celeste’ clutch, a pair of black suede Jimmy Choo ‘Teja’ crystal embellished pointed toe d’Orsay pumps, and Chopard Red Carpet collection emerald circle drop earrings surrounded in white diamonds. At 74 Helen Mirren is still showing girls more than half her age how fashion is done on the red carpet. I always look forward to seeing what she will bring to the Cannes Film Festival red carpet as an ambassador for L’Oreal Paris, so I am super disappointed that we have been deprived of a super glam moment from her this year due to the Cannes Corona Cancellation. Earlier this year as I was looking at the Spring 2020 Couture collections I saw this champagne gold Rami Kadi column gown which features a square neckline, corseted bodice, long caped sleeves, and embroidery in gold, silver, and iridescent sequins and immediately earmarked it as a perfect gown for Helen to wear in Cannes. So I couldn’t let me “What Could Have Been” series go by without featuring this paring. This gown is the perfect meshing of age appropriateness, sex appeal, glamour, and drama all rolled into one fabulous package. I know Helen would have delivered this gown with regal ease styling it with a sleek bob, defined eyes, punchy pink lips, a pewter silver crystal embellished Jimmy Choo ‘Cloud’ clutch, ombre silver glitter Jimmy Choo ‘LOVE’ pointed toe pumps, and a selection of eco glam Chopard Green Carpet Collection sustainably sourced diamond jewels including a pair of simple drop earrings and a simple collar necklace. Spanish supermodel Nieves Alvarez has been a fixture on the Cannes Film Festival red carpet for a while. Luxury jewelry company Bulgari is typically the one who sends her to walk the famed red carpet at the Palais. When it comes to glamour Nieves typically takes more of a dramatic approach when it comes to the red carpet. So as I was looking for looks for Nieves to wear in Cannes this year I went for DRAMA. In Cannes we usually see Nieves wearing Elie Saab, Stephane Rolland, or Alberta Ferretti. All labels which we are used to seeing Nieves wearing throughout the year. Labels she is a muse for. Instead of turning to one of those labels for this wish I went to Giambattista Valli Couture because this blush pink satin and tulle asymmetric ruffled gown from the brands Spring 2020 Couture collection just spoke to me. There aren’t many with the height and presence to pull this look off and Nieves has it. She knows how to push through more dramatic and complicated confections with regal elegance and that is what I would picture this moment becoming. Style it with a sleek updo, smokey eyes, bright pink lips, a rose pink satin Roger Vivier ‘Brochamour Envelope’ white and red crystal embellished crystal buckle clutch, a pair of rose gold glitter Christian Louboutin ‘Holly’ strappy cage sandals, and of course a selection of vintage Bulgari jewels including white diamond and ruby half wreath floral bouquet cluster earrings and a three row ruby and white diamond bracelet and I know that Nieves would have given us a major Best Dressed of the Year worthy moment.

2020 Met Gala Red Carpet Wish List Part 32

Each of the looks in my set of wishes for this years Met Gala feature looks that I think fit this years theme perfectly, especially for each of the wearers. Some of them might be a little surprising, but I let the looks pick the star for this red carpet. I spend so much time looking at collections trying to find looks for specific people that when I pick my Met Gala wishes I always go to the looks first. I wanted to make sure I found looks I feel fit the theme of the gala. This year the theme is “About Time: Fashion and Duration” so I wanted to make sure that I went for the glam factor for all of my looks for this years red carpet.Given the recent news that Clare Waight Keller’s contract as the creative director of Givenchy was not renewed and she would be leaving the house effective immediately I mourned. I wasn’t sure what Givenchy under Clare was going to look like. She went above and beyond my expectations. She consistently delivered some of my favorite collections season after season. She will be missed. I am hoping that come time for this years Met Gala that Givenchy still sends out her creations for stars to wear on the red carpet. Now seeing that I have picked Charlize Theron to wear this strapless ballgown which features a white textured silk bustier and a high waist bell skirt with a dramatic train might be a little surprise. Charlize has never worn another designer except Dior on the Met Gala red carpet, but since Givenchy (like Dior) is in the LVMH family I thought it worked. Charlize has worn several Givenchy looks on the red carpet since Clare took over the house and they have all been night change of pace from all of the Dior looks. I feel that while Charlize hasn’t been the big princess gown chick on the red carpet, that she would make this an iconic glam moment on this years Met Gala red carpet. Styling this look with a sleek retro updo, defined eyes, bold red lips, a silver Christian Dior ‘Diorama’ clutch (so that Dior is represented in the look,) a pair of black lace Christian Louboutin ‘Follies Dentelle’ pointed toe pumps, and a selection of gorgeous Tiffany & Co. jewels including vintage white diamond and emerald stud earrings, a tennis style necklace in platinum with esteemed emerald-cut emeralds and Lucida diamonds, and a statement vintage art deco white diamond and emerald bracelet would definitely make this look the definition of glamour from head to toe. Over the course of these wishes thus far I have picked Louis Vuitton looks for Emma Stone, Alicia Vikander, Diplo, Jharrel Jerome, Sophie Turner, Michael B. Jordan, & Cody Fern. My final wish goes to Lupita Nyong’o who wore custom Louis Vuitton for the SAG Awards earlier this year and was also front row at the brands time themed Fall 2020 RTW fashion show. Having been one to surprisingly never hit the mark for me on the Met Gala red carpet I thought Lupita would be the perfect person to ask Nicholas Ghesquiere to create her a custom gown out the gold and silver beaded water print that was shown on a pencil dress from the Louis Vuitton Fall 2020 RTW collection. I am always trying to find codes from the collections that could be used to make some killer red carpet gowns and this pattern is definitely ready to rock a red carpet. Now the signature bustier column dress is what I would expect Nicholas to do with this beading, but I would wonder what more he could do. What if he took the gold metallic leather ruffles that detailed another skirt from this collection and created an a-line tiered bustle with a dramatic train for Lupita? The silhouette is definitely not something we would expect to see from Louis Vuitton as Nicholas tends to go for much simpler shapes and not a lot of drama, but I think that would definitely be a really cool moment for Lupita to wear on the Met Gala red carpet. Letting the gown be the statement with shaved hairstyle, smokey eyes, dark ruby red glossy lips, a pair of black Louis Vuitton ‘Call Back’ sandals and a chic Nikos Koulis ‘Feelings’ collection yellow gold chain necklace with white diamonds would ensure this is Lupita’s best Met Gala fashion moment ever. When I talk about gowns picking the wearer that was evident when I picked Normani to wear this black sheer Mugler Fall 2020 RTW gown which features gloved sleeves, a high neck, and a mini dress lining. We have never seen Normani walk the Met Gala red carpet. In fact she hasn’t really had a big fashion moment aside of wearing a Versace ‘Jungle Print’ suit for the Billboard Women in Music Awards last December. That being said she is working with Kollin Carter, the stylist behind Cardi B, so if anyone can help facilitate a major Mugler moment on the red carpet it would be him. This look is super sexy and modern, but fits the idea of ‘timeless glamour’ in the Mugler way. Normani would definitely ooze sexual sophistication wearing this gown on the red carpet, but a modified version with a really long dramatic train and styled with a sleek super high ponytail, smokey eyes, red lips, a pair of black Christian Louboutin ‘Impera’ laser cut patent leather strappy pointed toe pumps, and statement Lorraine Schwartz 100 carat Colombian emerald and white diamond teardrop pendant earrings. She would definitely make a statement for her first Met Gala.Following Normani is her “Dancing With A Stranger” hit maker Sam Smith. Also like Normani Sam has never been to a Met Gala before, maybe they could come together? Honestly the fact that Anna didn’t invite Sam to last years “Camp” themed Met is a bit of a travesty. I was looking at this raspberry pink velvet Palomo Spain double breasted suit which features pearl fringe hanging from the breast pocket paired with a sheer scroll print white lace button down which features a high collar and scalloped cuffs with tie details that dangle as well and trying to pick the perfect person to wear it. I feel like Sam in his queer fabulosity would definitely be able to make this high fashion moody homosexual vampire moment really come to life on the red carpet at the Met Gala. Now honestly I joked about Sam and Normani attending the gala together, but this could be a very complimentary look to that Mugler. I would keep the styling the same as the runway except I would ditch the gloves and swap the shoes for a pair of black and silver striped Saint Laurent ‘Jonas’ laced pointed toe ankle boots to make a perfect Met Gala debut moment for Sam.The last wish for today is for the one Marchesa gown I have picked for this years red carpet. Since the whole Weinstein scandal broke several years ago Georgina Chapman has only dressed one star for the Met Gala. In 2018, the brands first major red carpet appearance after everything came to light, she dressed Scarlett Johansson, and then last year she chose to bring Constance Wu. For this years red carpet I went in a bit of a different direction. I went with an actress who has continued to be loyal to the brand even despite all of the drama: Vanessa Hudgens. I was looking at the brands Fall 2020 RTW collection and thinking which of these looks was perfect for this red carpet, and honestly they were all pretty but there is a red gown from the Marchesa Fall 2018 RTW collection that continues whose embers still glow in the back of my mind. Now while that red gown does fit this years theme perfectly I feel like Marchesa has taken a bit of a new direction recently and that is demonstrated perfectly with this cornflower blue draped silk-faille gown from the Marchesa Fall 2020 RTW collection which features a plunging v-neckline, draped accent at hip, thigh slit, and an asymmetric hemline. This color on Vanessa would be phenomenal, but like almost all these gowns in my Met Wishes I need the train on the gown to be customized to be even longer. As I always say when in doubt go big or go home. I think this look would scream modern Marchesa glamour with a sleek high bun, smokey eyes, rose pink lips, a pair of silver Stuart Weitzman ‘Ricki’ feather detail metallic leather sandals, and edgy Anabela Chan ‘Aqua Nova’ cocktail earrings, hand-set with an ombré array of laboratory-grown synthesised and simulated gemstones, ranging from deep kashmir blue sapphires to palest aquamarines, set in 18k blackened gold.

Milan Fashion Week Fall 2020 RTW Red Carpet Wish List

As they say fashion week stops for nothing. Well this season the Coronavirus tried to shut down the bi-annual Milan Fashion Week, and only partially succeeded. While the theaters on the final day of Milan Fashion Week might have been devoid of the usual guests of editors, buyers, celebrities, and influencers the shows still went on with those aforementioned people watching the collections come down the runway via a livestream from their hotel rooms. Overall I feel like while in shear number I was disappointed in the offerings that came out of Milan, but overall the quality of moment far exceeded both New York and London. In my wishes below you will find some absolutely major wishes for which I am now sending major positive energy out into the universe to manifest the red carpet moments and keep be excited about fashion. After loosing inspiration towards the end of last year and a mostly lackluster and rushed awards season the looks below give me hope that this year will have major glamour moments in store for us.
