2021 Critics Choice Awards Red Carpet Wish List Part 4

I am still riding a glamour high from Sunday’s Golden Globe Awards, but I am definitely moving forward to this weekends Critics Choice Awards. If this past weekend said anything it just proved that stars are ready to get dressed up and have some fun, even if they are still joining the shows virtually. I definitely am keeping that in mind when it comes to picking looks for the nominees for this weekends Critics Choice Awards. While we eventually get a great floor length look via social media we really only see the stars from the waist up. So all these looks are visually beautiful especially from the waist up. I will say I loved Carey Mulligan’s Prada gown at the Globes in the Zoom setting, but in the full length I wasn’t a huge fan of it all. I want Carey to consistently bring major fashion moments this awards season. So for this weekends Critics Choice Awards I turned to Prada, once again. Now I will say that I had already picked this blue and black beaded and fringe Prada high low flapper gown for Carey long before she showed up in Prada this weekend, and I’ve decided to continue to run with it. I thought of pulling this gown after seeing Dua Lipa pull some of the costumes Prada made for The Great Gatsby for one of her music videos. I honestly had never thought about putting the fabulous creations in wishes before. I was kind of hesitant to do it for Carey since she was one of the stars of the film, but then I asked myself why I was and I couldn’t give myself a good answer. This gown wasn’t worn by any of the main cast members and was just worn by an extra in one of the party scenes and I feel like it deserves a major red carpet moment. I think that styling this gown with a loose wavy bob, defined eyes, pink lips, a pair of major black trimmed silver glitter Miu Miu t-strap chunky heel sandals, and antique Fred Leighton old mine white diamond tassel pendant earrings would definitely make this a major fashion moment for Carey. Emma Corrin’s winning Golden Globes look was a custom Miu Miu gown inspired by vintage clowns. It was a look that’s for sure. I can’t say I loved it, but I want Emma to give me fashion and glamour for the Critics Choice Awards this weekend. I would love to see Emma, who debuted a much shorter hairstyle, wear this black satin Chanel Pre-Fall 2021 column gown with a dramatic train and a crystal embellished bodice. I would definitely say that this gown is glamour defined and I feel it would be a superb moment for her to bring to life. I would love to see her edge this look up taking her short boyish cut and giving it a punky styling, thick kohl rimmed eyes, glossy nude pink lips, a pair of black Sophia Webster ‘Rosalind’ strappy crystal heel sandals, and a white diamond DeBeers ‘Radiating Lotus’ white diamond collar necklace.Maria Bakalova had one of my favorite gowns at the Globes wearing a gorgeous raspberry red Armani Prive crystal embellished strapless ballgown. I didn’t really know what to expect and whatever expectations were in my mind were blown away. I actually ended up dropping the Dior Couture tea length gown I originally had picked for Maria for these wishes and went for something that I feel is a little more fashiony with this blush to wine ombre Alexander McQueen Resort 2021 one shoulder tea length dress which features intricate drape details, exposed corset, and an a-line skirt. I love a great McQueen moment and I know her stylist Jessica Paster does too so I could definitely see this being a look that she would put on the rack for Maria. I think that taking this dress and styling it with a sleek side parted updo, defined eyes, rose pink lips, a pair of hot pink Manolo Blahnik ‘Selunga’ buckle detailed silk slingback sandals, and dazzling pink sapphire and ruby Lorraine Schwartz drop earrings would definitely give Maria another amazing fashion moment this virtual awards season. My wish for Ma Rainey herself Viola Davis to wear for the Critics Choice Awards is a complete 180 from the custom African print Lavie by Claude Kameni gown she wore for the Globes. I was obsessed with that whole moment and I love that Viola went there. For the Critics Choice Awards I went with the archive fashion route picking this simple yet very glamorous black chiffon Michael Kors Spring 2005 RTW one shoulder gown which features intricate draping on the bodice and an floating a-line skirt. I’ve always loved seeing Viola in Michael Kors on the red carpet and I feel like this gown is definitely something she would be drawn to. I would nod to a black designer in this look choosing to style this gown with Vanleles jewels including a pair of ‘Out of Africa’ rose gold set white diamond and Mozambican responsibly sourced ruby and rubelite fan drop earrings, a yellow gold ‘The Nile’ sculptural pave set white diamond necklace, and an ‘Out of Africa’ rose gold set white diamond and Mozambican responsibly sourced ruby and rubelite cocktail ring to add a pop of color to this look. A natural pulled back tight curl hairstyle, smokey eyes, glossy black cherry red lips, a gold Tyler Ellis ‘Perry’ snakeskin embossed clutch, and a pair of black Jimmy Choo ‘Misty 120’ ankle strap sandals would add the perfect finishing touches to this moment. Headed into the nomination this year Zendaya’s performance in Malcolm & Marie was buzzing a lot for different nominations. When the Globe and SAG Awards were announced I hadn’t seen the film yet and I was so mad that neither nominated Zendaya. That being said, I just didn’t love the film. It wasn’t about her performance because it was stellar, but it was a great performance with no substance from the script. It left me wanting more. I will say that even in spite of my feelings I was happy to see the Critics Choice Awards nominate Zendaya. Not only did they nominate her for Best Actress, but they will be honoring her with the #SeeHer Award. So we know that we are going to see Zendaya in some way on Sunday night. I hope that she heads to the studio where the host and presenters will gather to accept the #SeeHer Award and do so in high style. I went full feminine glam picking this flamingo pink chiffon Georges Hobeika Spring 2020 Couture asymmetrically draped gown. I was looking for the perfect look and this was really the only one that spoke to me. I know that she would know exactly how to work this gown to really bring it to life perfectly. Taking this gown and adding a sleek bun updo, defined winged soft smokey eyes, glossy deep taupe lips, a pair of light pink Casadei platform ankle strap sandals, and MAJOR white diamond Yeprem High Jewelry ‘Gravity’ cluster meets fringe drop earrings would definitely make this the absolutely major moment I am craving from Zendaya.

The 2021 Critics Choice Awards will take place on Sunday March 7, 2021. You can find all of my wishes for this red carpet here.

2021 Golden Globe Awards Red Carpet Wish List Part 2

After picking 4 looks for Amy Poehler yesterday I have four more wishes for the other hostess of the 2021 Golden Globe Awards today. I am very much intrigued to see how this years show will work. Tina Fey will join the awards broadcast from the Rainbow Room in New York while Amy is in the ballroom at the Beverly Hilton in LA. Of the two hosts Tina definitely has more fashion chops. She has taken the stage at the Globes as hostess in the past in looks from L’Wren Scott, Carolina Herrera, & Antonio Berardi in years past. While I would imagine that will be the case once again this year I have 4 looks from different designers in today’s wish that would be phenomenal on Tina. The first look I’ve picked for Tina is definitely the most “Tina” of all of my picks. She loves a black dress and when I was looking at options I was really intrigued by the thought of her wearing this black crystal embellished horsehair Armani Prive Fall 2019 Couture strapless a-line ball gown which features a tiered skirt. I feel like this gown is classically elegant and it would be an outstanding option for Tina to wear on the “red carpet.” Now on the runway this gown was styled with a beaded belt. I would leave it on the rack for Tina as I feel like it would just cut off Tina’s torso. A simple side parted updo, defined eyes, rose pink glossy lips, a black Tyler Ellis ‘Lily’ glitter medley plexi clutch, a pair of black Jimmy Choo ‘Liu 100’ mesh paneled ankle strap peep toe half d’Orsay sandals, and a STATEMENT Cartier High Jewelry white diamond collar necklace would all make this a super glamorous moment for Tina to kick off the evening.  Now for my wishes for the actual show wardrobe. My first wardrobe change for Tina digs deep into the Ralph Lauren archives. I absolutely adore this sexy and glamorous red sequin spaghetti strap slip dress from the Ralph Lauren Fall 1995 RTW collection and I feel like Tina would look phenomenal in this look. She has worn silhouette’s like this in the past and has always looked great. I love the classic glamour of this look and I believe that with the same beauty as the Armani gown adding a pair of red Alexandre Vauthier ‘Aoki 100’ pointed toe ankle strap pumps and a pair of Cartier High Jewelry white diamond and ruby scalloped cluster earrings would make this a very chic moment for Tina.

Now I decided that I wanted to see Tina really give us some major color moments while hosting the 2021 Golden Globe Awards. The next look I would love to see Tina wear is this bold emerald green Elie Saab Pre-Fall 2021 button detailed long sleeve jersey maxi dress which features a plunging neckline, faux wrap style, and sunburst pleating. It is the “newest” of all the looks I’ve picked for Tina and the color would be fantastic on her. I will say that I was surprised to see that this gown was Elie Saab as it does have a much of the same design as we usually see from Balmain commercial designs. It would be such a strong and sexy moment from Tina with classic old Hollywood waves, defined eyes, glossy nude pink lips, beige glitter and mesh Christian Louboutin ‘Follies 85’ crystal embellished pointed toe pumps, and a pair of geometric Cartier High Jewelry white diamond and emerald drop earrings.

My final pick for Tina is yet another phenomenal archive gown. I was first reminded of the glamour of this white crystal embellished halter gown from the Michael Kors Fall 2005 RTW collection last year as I was researching for my Met Gala wishes. I cannot recall anyone wearing this look before and I believe that this glamorous moment deserves to finally be given a red carpet moment. I feel like it would be a perfect look for Tina and a dazzling moment for the Golden Globe Awards telecast especially with a pair of white Aquazzura ‘Bow Tie’ crystal embellished pointed toe pumps, a chic side parted updo, defined eyes, glossy pink lips, and circular Cartier High Jewelry ‘Faune et Flore de Cartier’ white diamond drop earrings.

The 2021 Golden Globe Awards will take place on Sunday February 28, 2021. You can see all of my wishes for this years event here.

Dream Inaugural Ball for President Joe Biden Red Carpet Wish List Part 5

As this post goes live Joe Biden will be taking the oath of office on the steps of the capitol. The day of change has arrived and we are going to mark it by continuing of what could have been tonight had COVID-19 not stolen the traditional Inaugural Balls from us. I have six more wishes for what could have been and I feel like these looks would definitely been given Best Dressed standards. Let’s dive in. Andra Day is gearing up for a promo tour for her upcoming film The United States vs. Billie Holiday and has been quite the activist in her own right. Her hit song “Rise Up” has become an anthem for pushing through. She took to the stage to perform on Monday for the “United We Serve: A Celebration of the National MLK Day of Service” coordinated by the Biden Inaugural Committee. So I would not have been surprised to see Andra rocking a major fashion moment in a Washington D.C. ballroom tonight at one of the inaugural balls had there been any. I’ve always loved how Andra gives very retro glam vibes on the red carpet, so I went into the archives of the king of retro glam: Zac Posen. While his label closed last year I would still love to see stars dig into the archives and wear so many of the amazing looks that have never been worn. For this occasion I would have loved to see Andra wearing this black silk faille off the shoulder ballgown from the Zac Posen Fall 2014 RTW collection. I love the structured bustier and the caped sleeves. It is very modern take on classic glamour, and I feel like Andra would have shut this gown down. Now I would take that black fur stole she is wearing in the reference photo on the left adding a retro updo with crystal pins, thick winged eyes, bold red lips, a pair of black Tom Ford ‘Disco’ platform ankle strap sandals, and a selection of major Amwaj jewels including white diamond pear shaped drop earrings, a white diamond pear cut collar necklace, and an abstract marquis cut white diamond ring to really make this look ooze glamour. Who was the most unexpected political pundit of 2020? It had to be Cardi B. She conducted interviews with Bernie Sanders during the primary (whom she was a very vocal supporter of) and then Joe Biden after he was the presumptive nominee. Cardi as a political face is actually something I love. So had she been invited to one of the inaugural balls I would have loved to see her show up and show out wearing an amazing look from a young black American based designer. I have been loving Ese Azenabor for a while now and I really do feel like this one sleeve a-line multicolor/patterned gown with a thigh high split and a dramatic train would have been a major moment for Cardi. It is the meshing of her flamboyant style, but a little on the reserved side. Reserved might not be the best phrase. It isn’t sheer. I think that’s what I’m more interested in. A high bubble ponytail, smokey eyes, deep mauve lips, major black Fenty ‘Ribbon Ropes’ crystal embellished satin strappy sandals, and dazzling ‘Cascata’ white diamond waterfall drop earrings from Cardi’s go to jeweler Gismondi 1754 would definitely have finished this look in a MAJOR manner. Debra Messing hosted “We the People” a pre-inauguration concert over the weekend and as a very vocal supporter of the Democratic Party I definitely would have loved to see her attend an inaugural ball. In these wishes you will see I dug into archives in spirit of both finding something “new” to talk about but also with the idea of sustainability in my mind. Debra has been friends with Christian Siriano for a long time and he has dressed her for so many red carpets it was an forgone conclusion that I would pick a gown from him for her. So I went shopping in his runway archives and found this burgundy silk strapless ball gown with a ruched bodice, dramatic bow hip detail, and a dramatic train from the Christian Siriano Fall 2010 RTW collection. I have to say that this was one of a few major gowns from this collections that were never worn on a red carpet. It is from one of Christian’s first post Project Runway era runway shows and before he became one of the biggest designers for the red carpet. I definitely feel like this color would be absolutely phenomenal on Debra and with a soft romantic updo, defined eyes, antique rose pink lips, a pair of burgundy Christian Louboutin ‘Kate’ pointed toe pumps, and a selection of Norman Silverman diamonds including simple teardrop earrings and a delicate floral tennis necklace it would be perfection. Justin Timberlake will be performing tonight during the “Celebrate America” primetime special that is taking the place of the traditional inaugural balls. Regular readers will know I love when Justin and wife Jessica Biel take to a red carpet together. They know good fashion and always bring it. So I am disappointed that this moment has been stolen from us. Had there been a ball I would have expected these two to serve up glamour from head to toe starting with Justin wearing a perfectly tailored Tom Ford Fall 2020 RTW tuxedo which features a marbled black and white shawl lapel tuxedo jacket, straight leg silk trousers, a white shirt, and a big black bow tie. This is a classically cut tuxedo with a statement making twist and I know Justin would wear it well especially styled with a pair of black Christian Louboutin ‘Alpha Male Flat’ velvet and striped suede millerighe slip on oxfords with a crystal toe cap and a Chopard ‘MillE MIGLIA LAB ONE CONCEPT’ watch. For Jessica I went for a classically glam Michael Kors look with a black fitted sleeveless gown with a plunging neckline and a short train from the Fall 2012 RTW collection. I am honestly surprised as I have been with all the archive looks in this wish list that this gown has never been worn before. It is that classically glamorous moment and I feel like whether it was worn then or now it would be a very chic and elegant moment. A sleek updo, defined eyes, bold red lips, a black crystal embellished Christian Louboutin ‘Palmette’ clutch, a pair of black leather Christian Louboutin ‘Loubi Queen 120’ ankle strap sandals, and dazzling Dena Kemp ‘ Brilliant Jewels’ collection white diamond paisley inspired drop earrings would ensure this look was glamour defined. Separately these looks are incredible, but together it would just prove once again that Justin and Jessica are indeed a red carpet power couple. Finishing out my wishes for my dream inaugural ball is talk show hostess Tamron Hall. I have long been fascinated with Tamron’s style. She is definitely the most extra of all the TV hosts and I love seeing her when she steps out. One of her last looks before lockdown was a major pink high low ruffled taffeta Oscar de la Renta gown at the 2020 NAACP Image Awards. It was one of her best looks to date. So when I was thinking of who I could put in Vera Wang in my Dream Inaugural Ball Wishes I thought that Tamron would be a great option to bring this deep burgundy one shoulder mermaid gown from the Vera Wang Spring 2013 Bridal collection out of the archive and give it a major red carpet moment. I know that Tamron has the diva-tude to really bring this gown to life on the red carpet. Her unique sense of style would be perfectly on display in this gown styled with a  chic spiky pixie style, defined eyes, glossy nude lips, black embellished lace mesh Christian Louboutin ‘Follies’ pointed toe pumps, and a selection of Sutra jewels including a pair of 18K blackened gold ‘Fireworks’ burst white diamond and deep ruby earrings and a white diamond ‘High Diamond’ bracelet.

“Artemis Fowl” Premiere Red Carpet Wish List

In an effort to combat the COVID-19 crisis Disney has decided to release Artemis Fowl on Disney + next Friday, June 21. As we all continue to social distance and places like movie theaters remain closed Disney has pushed the released of basically all of their movies. Artemis Fowl was originally slated for an August 9, 2020 theatrical release so this marks not only the first film from Disney to go from theatrical to streaming, but also the first to have it’s release pushed up. They decided to do this in hopes that as theaters, theme parks, and stores are all closed right now that the new film will help boost Disney + subscriptions. In terms of a missed red carpet I don’t know if Artemis Fowl would have brought us anything too major as the cast isn’t stacked with stars who love a big moment, but it would have been interesting at least to see what Hong Chau and Judi Dench would have brought to life for the premiere. Hong Chau became a bit of a fashionista a couple of years ago when she took to the red carpets, and ultimately earned a few nominations, with the promo tour for Downsizing. Over the course of that tour and beyond have seen brands like Rodarte, Versace, ADEAM, Dior, Stella McCartney, Valentino, Salvatore Ferragamo, and Elie Saab embrace her. So I feel like she could definitely have had a chic fashion moment up her sleeves for the premiere of Artemis Fowl. So I went on the hunt for something super elegant and chic ultimately deciding on this gold lamé Michael Kors Fall 2020 RTW caped mini dress which features a knotted neckline and ruched hem. Had this film actually had a theatrical release I probably would have picked a gown for Hong, but this look would have worked perfectly for the straight to stream premiere. I feel like the look is a fun and flirty moment and that is exactly what I think that Hong would have rocked it with effortlessly easy. A sleek center parted hairstyle ticked behind the ears, defined eyes, deep red lips, a gold Alexander McQueen crystal clasp metal box clutch, a pair of gold metallic leather Gianvito Rossi ‘Kimberley’ platform chunky heel strappy sandals, and Marco Bicego ‘Africa Collection’ 18k yellow gold and black diamond two strand tassel earrings would definitely have made this a dazzling moment for Hong. Judi Dench hasn’t been a style star, but at 85 the Dame earned her first British Vogue cover story. Inside that story we saw Judi pose in front of the lens wearing Dolce & Gabbana, Valentino, Dior Couture, and Armani Prive. It made me want to see Judi deliver a real fashion moment on the red carpet at the Artemis Fowl premiere. So I went to those same runways to find the perfect look and I was dazzled by the idea of Judi wearing this electric blue and emerald green ensemble from the Armani Prive Spring 2020 Couture which features a patterned coat covered in fringe and electric blue straight leg pants. This look would definitely have been the most fun that Judi has ever had on a red carpet and I really do believe she would have brought it to life especially styled with a made to match electric blue shell top under the coat, her signature platinum grey pixie, defined eyes, pink lips, an electric blue metallic python leather Tyler Ellis ‘Aimee’ clutch, a pair of electric blue satin Roger Vivier ‘Belle de Nuit’ crystal buckle detailed d’orsay flats, and simple yet dazzling sparkle via David Morris white diamond and emerald cut sapphire drop earrings.

2020 Cannes Film Festival What Could Have Been Wish List: “Ammonite”

A number of upcoming UK features were believed to have set their sights on autumn festivals before the pandemic hit including Francis Lee’s romantic drama Ammonite, starring Kate Winslet as Victorian fossil hunter Mary Anning opposite Saoirse Ronan. It is Lee’s second feature after God’s Own Country, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival. Now while it looked like it was set for a fall festival it also popped up in several Cannes Film Festival selection predictions. I think postponing the festival to the fall could see this film selected for the competition. So here we are with wishes to see it brought to the Cannes Film Festival red carpet, if selected when it is finally rescheduled. Kate Winslet hasn’t been to the Cannes Film Festival since 1997. Since then she has won an Oscar and become a film legend. When it comes to fashion I don’t really get excited when I see Kate’s name pop up. She knows how to deliver glamour, but its usually very simple. You can see that reflected in the looks I’ve picked for her to wear while promoting Ammonite at the 2020 Cannes Film Festival. For the photocall I went elegant suiting for Kate with this red Michael Kors Fall 2020 RTW ensemble which consists of a wool-gabardine blazer with a chain detail and a matching silk georgette pleated shirt dress with a neck tie. It is a perfect balance of structure and flow and I think that would make for a super chic photocall moment for Kate especially if styled with elegant waves, defined eyes, nude lips, and a pair of gold snakeskin Aquazzura ‘Forever 120’ cutout pointed toe pumps. For the premiere I went with classic glamour for Kate opting to put her in this black tiered strapless ruffle silk chiffon mermaid gown from the Alberta Ferretti Fall 2020 RTW collection. It is definitely something I can easily see Kate wearing for just about any red carpet. A sleek retro inspired updo, smokey eyes, bold red lips, a pair of black Aquazzura ‘Garden 120’ platform ankle strap peep toe sandals, and a statement Bulgari ‘Cinemagia’ white diamond geometric collar necklace would all ensure that Kate delivers elegant glamour from head to toe on the red carpet. Saoirse Ronan is one of the stars whose name I love seeing pop up for red carpets. She is always one who will take risks on the red carpet and I would have high expectations for Saoirse to bring to her Cannes Film Festival debut. She has been to the London Film Festival, Toronto Film Festival, and the Berlin Film Festival in the past, but no other festival compares to the glamour we see in Cannes. For the Ammonite photocall I went with a modern take of the safari suit with this olive green Galvan Pre-Fall 2020 suit which features a ring belted double breasted blazer and a pair of high waisted flared trousers. It would be a really chic moment for Saoirse to bring to the Cannes photocall balcony which overlooks the water of the French Rivera. This look would definitely be that super chic casual moment for Saoirse with a sleek center parted hairstyle tucked behind the ears, defined eyes, pink lips, a pair of nude, white, & gold Nicholas Kirkwood ‘Lexi’ criss-cross strap pointed toe pumps, and Mateo New York ‘Ring of Pearl’ hoop with diamond ear jackets. For the premiere I want to see Alessandro Michele customize a look from the Gucci Pre-Fall 2020 collection for Saoirse. I saw this emerald green and red mini dress which features intricate black beaded embroidery throughout and fell in love with it. I was obsessed with this dress as soon as I saw it and thought immediately of Saoirse wearing a gown of this look. Now to customize it I would customize this Edwardian inspired look first removing the pink taffeta that is under the fringe of the sleeves and creating a floor length tiered skirt alternating red and green panels. Red and green together has the potential to read very Christmas-y, but I think that this look would definitely make this a really cool moment for Saoirse to wear for her very first Cannes Film Festival red carpet. Style the look with a sleek center parted updo, smokey eyes, red lips, a pair of simple black suede Gucci strappy ankle strap sandals, and a pair of white diamond and emerald Chopard Red Carpet Collection teardrop pendant drop earrings and everything about this look would scream high glam. It was teased that Adut Akech was expected to attend the Cannes Film Festival for the first time this year. As she has become one of the top models in the world it doesn’t surprise me that she was able to snag some coveted premiere invitations. For her debut on the red carpet into the Palais de Festivals I would love to see Adut wearing this chartreuse green silk satin Elie Saab Spring 2020 Couture one sleeve ball gown which features asymmetrical fan details on the shoulder and hip as well as a daring thigh high asymmetrical hem and a dramatic train. I was originally going to honor her BFF status with Valentino creative director Pierpaolo Piccioli for her first Cannes Film Festival red carpet, but to be honest I feel like I am ready to see Adut branch out and become the red carpet icon like she has become a runway icon. So this statement look would definitely be a way for her to catch eyes. I think that Adut’s invites were going to come courtesy of festival sponsor Chopard, so I wanted to make sure that she had some major Chopard jewels were incorporated into the look. So a pair of major pink sapphire, tourmaline, peridot, amethyst, and sapphire paisley cluster earrings from the 2018 Chopard Red Carpet Collection would definitely add the perfect amount of sparkle to this look. To make sure this look is finished perfectly from head to toe I would style the gown with Adut’s signature buzzed hair, defined eyes, deep red glossy lips, and a pair of gold Christian Louboutin ‘Impera’ laser cut strappy pointed toe pumps.Praya Lundberg has been a L’Orealista, the fancy way of saying L’Oreal Paris spokesmodel, since 2015. Over the years in Cannes we have seen Praya go from super sexy in Versace to uber dramatic in Michael Cinco Couture. I want to see Praya deliver elegant glamour on this years red carpet wearing this champagne gold Rami Kadi Spring 2020 Couture crossover ball gown which features tiered ruffles embroidered with Swarovski and flower sequins, halter neckline, keyhole cutout, and a criss-cross open back. The look is super feminine glamour and I feel like it would make for a superb moment for Praya to deliver on the Cannes Film Festival red carpet as a L’Oreal ambassador. Styling the look with a sleek bun updo, defined eyes, rose pink lips, a pair of nude gold Jimmy Choo ‘Dochas 100’ ankle strap crystal embellished metallic leather sandals, and a pair of de Grisogono champagne diamond fan earrings set in rose gold would ensure that Praya once again delivers a chic moment on this red carpet.

2020 Met Gala Red Carpet Wish List Part 40

Well we have made it to my final set of wishes for the 2020 Met Gala. I have been really excited about all of these wishes, but today is extra special. When I had originally planned all of my archive fashion moments for this years Met Gala red carpets I decided that my final wish list was going to be nothing but archive runway moments I want to see on this years red carpet. I feel like archive moments are perfect to honor the theme of “About Time: Fashion and Duration.” What better way to honor the idea of fashion enduring than bringing something that was first presented 15+ years ago and make it fresh and modern for today’s red carpet. So the five looks that close out all of my #MetGala wishes are some of my favorite. It was really just over a year ago when Cardi B wore 3 archive couture Thierry Mugler looks for the Grammy Awards that we started seeing more and more archive Mugler moments on the red carpet. At last years Met Gala it was Kim Kardashian who blessed the red carpet wearing archive Mugler. This year I thought that after Dua Lipa snatched a look right off the Mugler Fall 2020 RTW runway for the Global Awards that she would be the perfect person to bring an archive moment from the label to the Met Gala red carpet this year. I found this pearlescent white strapless ballgown from the Thierry Mugler Fall 1999 Couture collection which features a fitted pencil gown, pointed hips, and a dramatic bustle train and fell in love. I was looking for something gorgeous for Dua and this gown which to me hearkens to the hay day of the New Look, but in space seemed to click perfectly. It is the best of classic glamour mixed with the best of the Mugler aesthetic. Knowing that Dua can handle a big gown on the red carpet makes me know she would be able to shut the Met Gala red carpet down wearing this gown. A sleek bun updo, defined eyes, burgundy lips, a pair of iridescent silver Christian Louboutin ‘Spikaqueen’ PVC detail crystal embellished ankle strap pointed toe pumps, and a statement white diamond Messika High Jewelry ‘Beloved Feather’ asymmetrical collar necklace would add the perfect finishing touches to this look.I was looking at the Pierre Cardin archives because I remembered a major archive moment Naomi Campbell wore for a royal fashion event back in 2018. It made me want to dig further into the archives and pick something major this years Met Gala red carpet. I wasn’t really looking at the archive with the idea of anyone specific in mind, but just looking at moments. When I saw this brick red sequin column gown which features 3/4 length sleeve with satin bow details on the cuff I thought immediately of Julianne Moore and I knew I had found the perfect archive moment. Julianne knows how to bring structured drama to the red carpet and I feel like the color of this gown against her skin and hair would just turn me into the heart eye emoji especially if styled with a sleek updo, smokey eyes, nude lips, an antique gold Gianvito Rossi ‘Bella’ clutch, black and gold Gianvito Rossi ‘Olga’ ankle strap d’Orsay sandals, and a pair of pink gold Bulgari ‘Diva’s Dream’ white diamond detailed chandelier earrings.Kaitlyn Dever was an ambassador for sustainable fashion during Oscar weekend this year. She wore several vintage couture gowns that her stylist Karla Welch pulled from online vintage hot spot Shrimpton Couture and then a custom eco-responsible silk custom Louis Vuitton gown. Now while last year Kaitlyn tweeted “While all y’all are at the met gala, I’m at home playing #uncharted4 with pops.” I am hoping to see her on this years Met Gala red carpet and I decided to go vintage for her to wear for this red carpet as well. I saw this black silk taffeta one shoulder bustle ball gown from the Pierre Balmain by Oscar de la Renta Fall 2000 Couture collection and immediately thought of Kaitlyn. This gown is a dramatic classic, which is perfect to compliment this years theme. A sleek updo, defined eyes, soft pink lips, a pair of black Roger Vivier ‘I Love Vivier’ pointed toe pumps, and a statement Bulgari High Jewelry  ‘Cinemagia’ collection necklace with rubellite, sapphire, emerald, diamonds and chalcedony in white gold would make sure that Kaitlyn’s Met Gala debut is head to toe perfection. I only picked two Michael Kors looks for this years Met Gala red carpet. The first was the customized Fall 2020 gown I picked for Hilary Swank. The second is diving into the Michael Kors archives for Naomie Harris. Over the years Naomie has worn several Michael Kors moments on various red carpets like the BAFTA Awards and a premiere of Spectre. As I was looking at archive Michael Kors collection I found this white crystal embellished halter gown from the Michael Kors Fall 2005 RTW collection. I knew it would be a gorgeous moment for Naomie to wear on this red carpet. Super elegant and glamorous. Now as presented the gown is gorgeous, but I would love to see Michael customize this archive moment for Naomie so that it has a really long dramatic train. I just want Naomie to ooze timeless glamour on the Met Gala red carpet. A sleek bun updo, smokey eyes, bold red lips, a silver Swarovski crystal embellished Michael Kors ‘Simone’ clutch, a pair of white Gianvito Rossi ‘Glam’ crystal embellished ankle strap sandals, and a selection of Atelier Swarovski jewels including a pair of Penelope Cruz collection ‘Lola’ double drop earrings with dazzling pear-shaped Swarovski Genuine Topaz encircled by stunning Swarovski Created Diamonds, suspended from an oval-shaped stud and a statement ‘Azure Blue’ cocktail bracelet artfully arranged in bands around two cabochon Swarovski Created Star Sapphires, 3 rows of round brilliant Swarovski Created Diamonds surround sparkling rows of Swarovski Genuine Topaz and dangling details of marquise cut laboratory created blue Spinel and pear cut Kashmir blue treated Swarovski Genuine Topaz drops, all set in 18k white gold all would ensure the look delivers dramatic timeless glamour from head to toe. And my final wish for the 2020 Met Gala wish I dug into the glamorous Ralph Lauren archives. Like Michael Kors I picked two looks from Ralph Lauren for the Met Gala. Ralph didn’t get to present his Fall 2020 collection because of the COVID-19 crisis, but with an illustrious archive full of glam gowns I was able to make sure he was included. I saw this halter neck white silk charmuse halter gown from the Ralph Lauren Fall 2005 RTW collection (apparently a good season for white gowns) and knew that it was the perfect gown for the Met Gala. Now I went through many options of stars to wear it on the red carpet, but as soon as I thought of this gown on Olivia Munn I knew it was the perfect fit. The gown on Olivia would definite ooze sophisticated, sensual elegance. Styling the gown with old Hollywood waves, smokey eyes, nude pink lips, a white croc embossed satin Tyler Ellis ‘Lily’ clutch, a pair of white Casadei ‘Blade’ ankle strap stiletto sandals, and statement Lorraine Schwartz jewels including a pair of paraiba tourmaline and white diamond teardrop pendant earrings and a matching statement paraiba tourmaline cocktail ring would add the perfect finishing touches to this look for Olivia.

2020 Met Gala Red Carpet Wish List Part 33

In my Met Gala wishes I have typically talked about how everyone should go big or go home. When it comes to the looks that walk those famous steps I always seem to gravitate towards the biggest of skirts, the longest of trains, and the most avant garde of ensembles. In this set of wishes I have three rather simple gowns by Met Gala standards and two looks that fit that idea of go big or go home perfectly. I do believe that each of the ladies whom are in this set of wishes would shut their looks down on the red carpet no matter how simple by comparison they are to some of the other looks in these wishes.  Angela Bassett has never attended a Met Gala before, but her profile has definitely risen in the last two years with her hit series 9-1-1 and her role in Black Panther. She has been making the fashion rounds sitting front row at numerous shows including Valentino and Elie Saab. This might have been in anticipation that her animated film Soul was expected to premiere at the Cannes Film Festival. Her big fashion trips made me think that maybe it was time for Angela to finally walk the famous Met steps. I would love to see Angela be the guest of Carolina Herrera wearing this black and white giant bow back embellished one shoulder column gown from the Pre-Fall 2020 collection. I have been in love with this gown since it was first presented and I knew it would be a perfect moment for this year Met Gala red carpet. Angela definitely bring the drama to the red carpet in this gown making for a superb debut moment. Styling the gown with a braided updo, smokey eyes, red lips, a black Judith Leiber Couture ‘Soho’ velvet crystal embellished clasp clutch, a pair of black and silver Aquazzura ‘Deneuve Crystal’ pointed toe pumps, and a small pop of color via a pair of Goshwara white diamond, black onyx, and green tourmaline teardrop pendant earrings would ensure that Angela oozes dramatic glamour on the red carpet. Over the years former Victoria’s Secret model Candice Swanepoel has delivered superb fashion moments on the Met Gala red carpet. This year I went for soft, sensual glamour instead of big drama for Candice. I would love to see her walk the red carpet this year as the guest of Jason Wu wearing this soft black sheer strapless crystal embroidered tulle gown from the designers Fall 2020 RTW collection. By terms of the go big or go home air of this red carpet, but I feel that with the right styling that Candice would ooze glamour on the red carpet. I think that styling this gown with a long train, a retro updo, sharp winged eyes, contoured cheek bones, pink lips, a black Swarovski crystal mesh Tyler Ellis ‘Perry Black Shadow’ clutch, a pair of black crystal embellished Gianvito Rossi strappy leather sandals, and a statement de Grisogono black and white diamond necklace (do add some drama) would definitely bring this look to life. Michael Kors has been on the Met Gala red carpet dressing some of the biggest names in the industry over the years. I would love to see him bring his edgy take on glamour on the Met Gala red carpet this year. His dark take on disco from the Michael Kors Fall 2020 RTW collection would definitely fit the theme of this years gala “About Time: Fashion and Duration.” I decided to turn back to one of Michael’s past guests for him to dress once again this year, Hilary Swank. In 2012 Michael dressed Hilary in a beautiful burgundy chiffon halter gown, now for this years red carpet I went with this gunmetal grey sequined tulle halter dress from the Michael Kors Fall 2020 RTW which features leather trimming on the neck and the waist. Of course I would love to see Michael customize this gown to skim the floor and have a dramatic train. It is edgy and glamorous showing how the legacy of a bygone era can endure. I would allow the gown to be a super glamorous moment styling it with a romantic updo, defined eyes, soft antique rose pink lips, a pair of dazzling black crystal embellished star Jimmy Choo PVC detailed pointed toe pumps, and vintage 1930’s Cartier white diamond scroll cluster earrings. 16Arlington has been a label with a slow burn into being a major red carpet contender. The label has been rocked on the red carpet by Lizzo, Lena Dunham, Clare Foy, Lily James, Christina Aguilera, and Rita Ora. We don’t see the label often on the red carpet, but I feel like the time to have the label brought to life on the Met Gala red carpet is now. I saw this black knotted taffeta, sheer delicate lace, and grey sequin blocked asymmetrical dress on the runway at the 16Arlington Fall 2020 RTW presentation and said immediately that it would be a superb moment for the Met Gala red carpet. It is quite the modern take on a 60’s socialite ensemble. It almost takes a punk rock take on that 60’s socialite vibe. Now of course this look has to be lengthened into a floor length gown. Now I am really going for it with the styling. Originally I was going to take inspiration from the runway adding a MAJOR necklace moment to this look and I was searching Messika, but then I saw a necklace that could also be worn as a tiara and well I believe that if a Tiara moment can speak to me on the red carpet then I need to go with it. So I decided to style this gown with a Messika ‘Diamond Catcher’ white diamond tiara on a sleek bouffant updo. Finishing the look with sleek cat eyes, bold red lips, a pair of black Christian Louboutin ‘Renee Strass’ crystal embellished strappy sandals, a pair of Messika ‘Firebird’ white diamond cluster earrings, and a statement Messika ‘Sharâzâd’ cuff bracelet and hand ring combo would definitely make sure this look screams edgy yet timeless glamour. In her past history of walking the Met Gala red carpet Tessa Thompson has always brought really edgy, almost sexual moments in Thom Browne and Chanel. I love that Tessa isn’t afraid to take fashion risks on the red carpet, but with this years theme steering stars towards more of a timeless elegance I saw this bold Valentino red sleeveless 3D bow appliqued a-line ballgown from the Valentino Fall 2019 Beijing Haute Couture collection and thought it was perfect for Tessa to wear on this red carpet. The gown is definitely a bold statement but also extremely classic all at the same time. I feel like it would be absolutely beautiful on Tessa. I would love to see her styling the look with the runways glittered opera gloves, a dramatic Senegalese twist inspired updo, smokey eyes, bold red lips, a pair of red Valentino classic tone on tone ‘Rockstud’ pointed toe pumps, and a pair of dazzling Cartier High Jewelry art deco inspired white diamond and ruby chandelier earrings to really bring the dramatic glamour to this red carpet.

New York Fashion Week Fall 2020 RTW Red Carpet Wish List Part 2

New York Fashion Week happened later than normal. We got to see some previews of the collections on the SAG Awards, Grammy Awards, and Oscars red carpets. I was honestly really surprised by just how strong the collections shown during New York Fashion Week. These runways make me really excited for the red carpets over the next several months. The glamorous looks that span looks perfect for everything from the sidewalk to the red carpet. We will see many of the looks from these collections on the red carpet and below are just 55 early predictions of who I would love to see bring some of my favorite looks to walk the New York Fashion Week runways to life on the red carpet.

2020 Costume Designers Guild Awards Red Carpet Wish List

Historically the Costume Designers Guild kick off Oscar Week with their annual awards gala. This is one of the final guild awards handed out before the Oscars and given its usual perch it is usually very star studded. I wonder if this years red carpet will be harmed in terms of glamour versus previous years being moved earlier due to the accelerated pace of this awards season. As of now there are only two celebrities I know who will be in attendance: hostess Mindy Kaling and Spotlight Award recipient Charlize Theron. or Mindy I really wanted to embrace fun and color for this event so I went to three stellar looks which I could just see making for absolutely glamorous, yet super fun, moments for her to bring alive while hosting this years Costume Designers Guild Awards. Aside from those two lovely ladies all the rest of the stars featured in this set of wishes are ones whom I would like to see step onto this red carpet to support the costume designers who dressed them in their respective films and television programs which have been nominated. I went from simple and chic to fun and theatrical with these wishes because when it comes to a Costume Designers Guild Awards red carpet really just about anything goes.

The 2020 Costume Designers Guild Awards will take place tomorrow Tuesday January 28, 2020.

2020 Golden Globe Awards Red Carpet Wish List Part 3

This is my last set of wishes for the 2020 Golden Globe Awards. I am so excited to see what everyone is going to bring to the red carpet. As I have said the red carpets leading up to this event have been awesome and I am just ready to see everyone bring their A-game to this red carpet. The theme of this set of wishes is drama and glamour. Some of these wishes are definitely more out there than that we are used to seeing from the wearers (ie. the Valentino Haute Couture gown I’ve picked for Awkwafina, the Givenchy feathered eleganza I picked for Dakota Fanning, and the ombre Marchesa gown for Tiffany Haddish) to super dramatic moments for red carpet queens like the Azzi & Osta Couture mermaid gown I want to see on Tiffany Haddish and the major modern yet classic moment from Stephane Rolland I think that Cynthia Erivo would shut down the red carpet in, but I believe that each of these moments would turn me into the heart eyed emoji making me fall back in love with red carpets again.
