2020 Met Gala Red Carpet Wish List Part 30

The looks in today’s set of wishes are major. I always say the answer to picking the perfect Met Gala fashion moment is go big or go home. That is exactly what I did when picking the looks for Aja Naomi King, Naomi Scott, Lucy Liu, and Rowan Blanchard; oh and there is a super chic white tie moment for Henry Golding. Each of these looks is perfectly indicative of each label and all would be superb moments to see on this years red carpet. Aja Naomi King made her Met Gala debut in 2016, but hasn’t been on the red carpet since. Now she is a L’Oreal Paris spokesmodel and I feel like it’s about time she got her second appearance on the famed Met steps. What kills me about Aja on the red carpet is the fact that I know she has so much potential, but rarely lives up to it. For this years Met Gala red carpet I want to see Aja turn to Christopher John Rogers. I really want to see the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund winner deliver major moments on the Met steps this year. For Aja I would love to see Christopher create a custom gown that is a hybrid of two looks from the Christopher John Rogers Fall 2020 RTW collection. Taking the red lamé asymmetrical peplum cocktail dress which features a plunging neckline and layering it over the black and silver crystal embellished column skirt from the strapless column gown. Each look on their own isn’t right for the Met Gala red carpet, but combined I know this look would be superb. A chignon afro puff updo, smokey eyes with a hint of emerald, dark rose pink lips, a pair of black Stuart Weitzman ‘Nudistsong Stardust’ crystal embellished ankle strap sandals, and statement Amrapali emerald and white diamond teardrop pendant earrings would definitely make this a major moment for Aja to wear on the Met Gala red carpet. Henry Golding was introduced to us about 2 year ago now when he stared in the hit film Crazy Rich Asians back to back with the Blake Lively/Anna Kendrick drama A Simple Favor. He made his Met Gala red carpet debut last year taking a risk in custom Atelier Versace. It was a risk that almost paid off. I appreciate that Henry is willing to take some risks with fashion, but for this years Met Gala I decided I wanted to see him bring perfect classic glamour to this red carpet. This classic cut white tie Ralph Lauren Fall 2020 Menswear tailcoat tuxedo is the epitome of timeless elegance for menswear and when fitted perfectly the looks are one to take notice of. I definitely believe that Ralph would make sure this look is perfectly tailored for Henry. Now I would just add a pair of black Christian Louboutin ‘Greggo Orlatio’ paillette sequin embellished oxfords to add a subtle hint of dazzle to this look. Over the years Lucy Liu has only walked 2 Met Gala red carpets. That honestly surprises me as she is quite the fashionista. While we don’t see Lucy on the red carpets often when she does the looks are always top notch. In fact she has one of my favorite Met Gala red carpet moments ever thanks to the purple ruffled Zac Posen gown she wore in 2007. I would love to see her attend this year as a guest of Christian Siriano. Lucy wore Siriano for the Tony Awards last year and was seated front row at his Spring 2020 RTW show last September. Never one to shy away from drama for the red carpet I thought Lucy would be the perfect person to wear this crocodile skin pattern embroidered velvet ensemble from the Christian Siriano Fall 2020 RTW collection which includes a structured high neck capelet and a strapless corseted ball gown. The look is distinctly Siriano and a modern, edgy twist on the classic ballgown. It really do think that while Lucy is quite petite that she has the presence to make this look come to life on the red carpet. While the matching hat is quite interesting for the runway I would have Lucy ditch it for the red carpet instead opting to style the gown with a sleek side parted updo, thick defined eyes, bold red lips, black glitter Christian Louboutin ‘Renee’ strappy leather sandals, and a pair of statement David Webb ‘Asheville’ earclips made in cabochon turquoise, brilliant-cut diamonds, 18K gold, and platinum. This would definitely make for a statement making moment for Lucy to wear for her Met Gala return. Naomi Scott made her Met Gala debut last year ahead of her major promo tour for Aladdin. She wore a cool Burberry crystal chain and feather embellished tunic and sleek tailored pants. It was definitely one of the cooler looks of the evening, but when there were so many major gowns it faded into the masses. I don’t want that to happen to her this year. So I turned to the illustrious Richard Quinn, who is known for making dramatic moments happen. He dressed Naomi in black latex and blue floral jacquard for the Charlies Angels premiere in London last fall and for this years Met Gala I went back to his Spring 2019 RTW collection to seek inspiration for the perfect gown for Naomi to wear. I would love to see Naomi give us modern flapper vibes wearing a custom gown inspired by this ice blue silk cocktail dress which features silver beaded embroidery and black feather embellishments. Now picture it with me. Taking this dress and lengthening it to hit the floor with the feather embellishments on silk strips made to add a dramatic train to this gown would definitely make sure that Naomi delivers the drama on the red carpet. I would love to see Naomi take this custom gown and go full flapper with it styling the gown with a fingerwave updo, defined eyes, pink lips, a pair of black Nicholas Kirkwood ‘Monstera’ crystal embellished leaf sandals, and vintage 1930’s white diamond Bulgari art deco chandelier earrings. Rowan Blanchard has now hit the 18 year age requirement to attend the Met Gala. I have wanted to see the actress own this red carpet for a while. She isn’t afraid to take sartorial risks and I know that she would own this red carpet. I have been imagining her wearing this Schiaparelli Spring 2020 Couture ‘Grand Flou’ ball gown which features a multicolored “bathing suit” bustier, thin halter straps, and a huge shocking pink skirt in silk faille since it first came down the runway back in January. This gown can only work on a couple of red carpets and the Met Gala is one of those few red carpets where this look would work. While it isn’t really a “timeless” gown by any stretch of the imagination it does speak perfectly to the codes of the House of Schiaparelli. Finishing this look with a sleek retro inspired updo, defined eyes, pink lips, a pair of metallic pink Gucci chunky peep toe platform sandals, and white diamond Hueb ‘Luminus’ starburst cluster earrings would definitely make this a major Met Gala debut moment for Rowan.

After today I am navigating uncharted waters. This set of wishes for looks that came down the runways of Paris Fashion Week a few weeks ago really finishes out all my immediate wishes for the Fall 2020 RTW runway season. Overall I have been really impressed and honestly sad at the thought that due to the COVID-19 crisis that many of these looks will end up lost to the archives of fashion history. Even if this list is the only place we will ever get to enjoy the idea of these looks on a red carpet then so be it. At least in this time of crisis we are able to maintain a sense of fantasy when reality is do bleak.

New York Fashion Week Fall 2020 RTW Red Carpet Wish List Part 2

New York Fashion Week happened later than normal. We got to see some previews of the collections on the SAG Awards, Grammy Awards, and Oscars red carpets. I was honestly really surprised by just how strong the collections shown during New York Fashion Week. These runways make me really excited for the red carpets over the next several months. The glamorous looks that span looks perfect for everything from the sidewalk to the red carpet. We will see many of the looks from these collections on the red carpet and below are just 55 early predictions of who I would love to see bring some of my favorite looks to walk the New York Fashion Week runways to life on the red carpet.

2020 Oscar Parties Red Carpet Wish List Part 2

Oscar night is always one of the most glamorous nights of the year. We can see upwards of 200+ looks on the red carpets of Oscar night. Despite the fact that last year I did not actually post a Best Dressed of the Year list an Oscar party look has never made the final cut for a BDOTY List. We have seen some superb moments on the red carpets at Oscar parties. I am specifically remembering Rosie Huntington-Whiteley in a mint green Ralph & Russo Couture at the 2018 Vanity Fair Party. That look was in my final round of cuts for my 2018 Best Dressed of the Year list, though that was a really tough year to make the list. I hope that with some of the people who I am rumored to hear are making an Oscar night appearance will deliver some major moments as I was super underwhelmed with last year. In all of today’s wishes I am featuring some of the looks that are hot off the Paris Haute Couture runways, Pre-Fall 2020 looks I am dying to see on the red carpet, as well as looks from Spring 2020 RTW I don’t want to see lost to the archive, as well as couture archive moments I am still waiting to see on the red carpet. Honestly if just a 1/3 of these could come true then this could be one of the best Oscar nights ever.

Oscar Night 2020 is Sunday February 9, 2020.

2020 Costume Designers Guild Awards Red Carpet Wish List

Historically the Costume Designers Guild kick off Oscar Week with their annual awards gala. This is one of the final guild awards handed out before the Oscars and given its usual perch it is usually very star studded. I wonder if this years red carpet will be harmed in terms of glamour versus previous years being moved earlier due to the accelerated pace of this awards season. As of now there are only two celebrities I know who will be in attendance: hostess Mindy Kaling and Spotlight Award recipient Charlize Theron. or Mindy I really wanted to embrace fun and color for this event so I went to three stellar looks which I could just see making for absolutely glamorous, yet super fun, moments for her to bring alive while hosting this years Costume Designers Guild Awards. Aside from those two lovely ladies all the rest of the stars featured in this set of wishes are ones whom I would like to see step onto this red carpet to support the costume designers who dressed them in their respective films and television programs which have been nominated. I went from simple and chic to fun and theatrical with these wishes because when it comes to a Costume Designers Guild Awards red carpet really just about anything goes.

The 2020 Costume Designers Guild Awards will take place tomorrow Tuesday January 28, 2020.

63 Looks From Spring 2020 Couture I Want To See On The Red Carpet

I started off Paris Haute Couture Spring 2020 Fashion Week with the intention of having a post the next morning of the favorite looks I had seen the day before with who I most want to see wearing those looks. Well life got in the way. Tuesday night I saw Celine Dion and slept as long as I could before heading to work the next day. Wednesday I had to take my mother to a doctors appointment first thing in the morning and lost my little bit of weekday morning blog time. So by then I just decided well day one is already up, but I will just do a round up including all the shows with 1-4 looks from each show being featured in one big round up list. So that is what I did. As I was putting this list together I realized that this is basically a precursor to my 2020 Cannes Film Festival wishes with major looks for L’Orealistas like Sonam Kapoor, Eva Longoria, Araya A. Hargate, Aishwarya Rai, Helen Mirren, and more to bring to life on the red carpet. It can also be a prediction for you all as it comes to what my Oscar party wishes may look like. Overall this season was very good. Aside from my now perennial favorites Givenchy and Valentino there wasn’t really much of a stand out as far as an entire collection, save maybe Armani Prive, but there were a ton of really amazing moments that are just waiting to be seen on a red carpet. I hope you are ready to see more of these looks, see some of these wishes below detailed out, and more on the race to the Oscars, Met Gala, and the Cannes Film Festival. I honestly do not know which wish here is my favorite; what’s yours?

Favorite Looks From Paris Haute Couture Spring 2020 Day 1

The couture shows kicked off in Paris yesterday and I was awake at 4am Eastern Standard Time to watch the first show of the week: Schiaparelli. I was enamored with the show and honestly not as impressed with the looks from the rest of the day. There are definitely stand out looks from each of the shows, but overall not a single collection delivered amazing moments from beginning to end. I am hoping that we will see that change as the final two days go by, but I have learned to manage my expectations as I went into this week expecting the best collections ever presented.

Best Dressed of 2019

While this post has been backdated to December 2019 I didn’t actually edit and write by Best Dressed of 2019 list until we were more than halfway through with 2020. At the end of 2019 I was almost ready to hang up my hat and give up blogging. I was feeling overwhelmed trying to consistently bring content to my followers while balancing my full time job and trying to maintain a personal life. I was also feeling overwhelmed trying to figure out how to cover all of the events in an accelerated awards season. So I let things I always did, and usually enjoy doing, fall to the wayside. Well as I was looking back at Best Dressed of the Year lists for previous years as reference when talking about other wishes I knew I needed to back track and write a Best Dressed of 2019 list. Overall the year was a great year in terms of fashion. It was a slow burn at the start for the most part. Awards season was super dull. This is only the second time in nine years that I have a Best Dressed of the Year list that doesn’t have a single look from awards season. But when it came down to it the looks I fell in love with the most in 2019 came mostly from movie premieres and the Cannes Film Festival. Let’s go through my 10 favorite looks from last year. 1) Angelina Jolie in custom Ralph & Russo Couture at the London premiere of Maleficent: Mistress of Evil:  Angelina makes her first Best Dressed of the Year list appearance since 2013. Funny thing? The last appearance she made was also thanks to a custom Ralph & Russo Couture look. Angie is a regal queen and I always look forward to seeing what she will bring to the red carpet. When I saw her step onto the red carpet at the premiere of Maleficent: Mistress of Evil in London wearing this magical pale grey Ralph & Russo Couture intricately beaded cape gown my heart soared. This is always what I want Angelina to look like on the red carpet. It was regal perfection from head to toe. This look immediately made me think of a warrior goddess and Angie just wafted up this red carpet with real presence. So when I was putting this list together nothing gave me the same wow moment so of course it tops my Best of 2019 list. 2) Sarah Paulson in custom Prada at the London premiere of GLASS: This was the first look last year I remember loving. This pink Prada gown with green hand painted flames on the hem inspired by brands Spring 2012 RTW collection and was reissued by Miuccia for the Fall 2018 Menswear collection. This look is fun and statement making. It was a risk. That is one of the things I love most about Sarah. She isn’t afraid to take risks. Honestly I can’t believe that this is the first time that Sarah has made one of my Best Dressed of the Year lists. I have always been a fan of her style, but everything about this look from the jade Irene Neuwirth tassel earrings to the emerald marbled acrylic Edie Parker clutch this look made this a major pop art inspired glamour moment.

3) Naomi Scott in custom Burberry at the London premiere of Aladdin: A movie star was born on the red carpet at the London premiere of Aladdin. When I saw Naomi Scott wearing this pale sky blue strapless custom Burberry column gown which features an intricately beaded satin sweetheart neckline bustier bodice, a draped pants waist detail, and a column skirt my jaw dropped. It was the first custom gown from the Riccardo Tisci era of the British fashion house I fell in love with, and there hasn’t been any since. The look is definitely not an easy look to pull off, but Naomi brought the look to like with sleek effortless ease.

4) Zendaya in custom Vera Wang at the Emmy Awards: For the most of the year it was rumored that Zendaya was going to be cast as Ariel in the new Disney live action adaptation of The Little Mermaid. In August it was announced that Halle Bailey was cast in the role. Well on the red carpet at the Emmy Awards weeks later Zendaya showed Disney just how right she could have been for the role. (I want to be clear I am very excited to see just how fantastic Halle does.) This emerald green custom Vera Wang one shoulder gown which features an exposed sheer paneled bustier, draped silk charmuse, a thigh high split, and matching satin Brian Atwood pumps was phenomenal and Zendaya rocked it with effortless sex appeal. The flowing red waves and Cartier jewels finished this look perfection. 5) Katy Perry in Carolina Herrera Spring 2020 RTW at the David Lynch Foundation ‘Silence The Violence’ Benefit: Everyone knows I love quirky, dramatic takes on glamour so it should come as no surprise that I LOVED seeing Katy Perry wearing this blush pink satin Carolina Herrera Spring 2020 RTW strapless ballgown overlaid with black polka dotted white tulle and features a dramatic side ruffle and a bow detailed ribbon waist. This gown isn’t something I think I would have even thought of as an option for Katy as I was looking at the runway looks, but I am glad that her stylist Samantha Burkhart did. The sleek retro curled bob and the pearl tiara from Simone Rocha all made this an absolutely major moment.

6) Tracee Ellis Ross in Marc Jacobs Spring 2019 RTW and Versace at Diana Ross’s 75th Birthday: Diana Ross turned 75 this year and for her birthday celebration her fashionista daughter Tracee Ellis Ross paid tribute to her mothers iconic style. Tracee posted her outfit on Instagram which consisted of a coral Marc Jacobs Spring 2020 RTW feathered coat paired with a peachy pink Versace Spring 2020 RTW crystal embellished cocktail dress and sunset pink to orange crystal embellished Christian Louboutin pointed toe pumps. The sleek bowl style bob, defined eyes, lashes for days, and coral pink lips all added the perfect finishing touches to this look.

7) Elle Fanning in custom Christian Dior Couture at the Cannes Film Festival premiere of Once Upon A Time In Hollywood: When Elle Fanning was announced at a jury member of the 2019 Cannes Film Festival I was hoping that it was going to include many major moments. Many will be SHOCKED to see that I have included a look from Christian Dior by Maria Grazia Chiuri in a Best Dressed of the Year List. Honestly I am a little bit too, but Elle really did the thing when she stepped out on the red carpet at the festival premiere of Once Upon A Time In Hollywood wearing this new take on the iconic Christian Dior “New Look” it was amazing. It was unexpected and elegant. More casual than what I would have expected but it was amazing. The custom Steven Jones hat really made this look. It wouldn’t have been the same without it. 8) Elsa Hosk in custom Etro at the Cannes Film Festival premiere of A Hidden Life: The Cannes Film Festival is always an event that delivers major Best Dressed of the Year worthy fashion moments and 2019 was no other. I have never not included looks from the film festival in my Best Dressed of the Year List and that didn’t change this year. Etro got a new VIP director this year and we saw all kinds of looks from the label on the red carpets. The most successful was the rainbow sherbet color blocked gown with a dramatic train and a plunging neckline worn by Elsa Hosk for the premiere of A Hidden Life. It was an obvious homage to the Halston gown worn by Lauren Hutton to the 1975 Oscars. There was not denying that. To me a look that is such a literal homage is even more difficult to pull off because if you do not do it right then it just doesn’t work. Elsa balanced the bohemian vibes from Lauren with modern dramatic glamour perfectly which is why she earned a spot on this list.

9) Cardi B in Chanel Fall 2019 RTW at the Chanel Spring 2020 RTW Presentation: There was a buzz in Paris because Cardi B was in the city ahead of the Chanel Spring 2020 RTW presentation. I remember hearing rumors that she was going to be invited to the show but nothing was confirmed. Well when she stepped onto the set for the photographers wearing a full Chanel Fall 2019 RTW ensemble which featured a black and white houndstooth print floor length trench coat, a winter white and black window pain plaid tweed jumpsuit, matching wide brimmed hat, and a black leather quilted bag Cardi showed us that she really is a fashion force to be reckoned with. I’ve never included a front row ensemble in a Best Dressed of the Year list, but this is such a a major fashion moment I couldn’t not include it.

10) Elle Fanning in custom Gucci at the Cannes Film Festival Opening Ceremony: Rounding out this list is another look from Elle Fanning’s tenure as a jury member at the Cannes Film Festival. I knew when it was first announced that she would be on the jury that she would give us some major fashion moments, and she did not disappoint. She opened the festival giving us 1940’s femme fatale glamour wearing this custom peachy cream silk charmuse caped gown which features a plunging neckline, purple floral embroidery, and a dramatic cape. I think a man named Erik Anderson on Twitter said it best: “When you’ve just murdered your husband that morning but still have to murder the red carpet later.” This look was absolute perfection from head to toe. All glamour all the time.

2019 Teen Choice Awards Red Carpet Wish List Part 4

As I mentioned yesterday I fell behind a little bit with my wishes for the 2019 Teen Choice Awards red carpet and had to cut my wishes short. So instead of 8 sets of wishes for this years red carpet I only have the time to share 6. So I am definitely going to make the most out the last three sets of wishes I have time to get out before this red carpet this weekend. Gabrielle Union just spent several days promoting L.A.’s Finest at the Monte Carlo TV Festival and is now nominated at the Teen Choice Awards for her role in the show. She always serves a look on the red carpet so I definitely want to see her on the red carpet, especially since her co-star Jessica Alba is already confirmed to attend. I decided to go for fun, funky, and dazzling meets elevated casual picking this Moschino Fall 2019 RTW ensemble which features a black and gold asymmetrical embellished brocade long sleeve crop top and a pair of currency embellished mid rise cropped jeans. This look is sin city meets Golden Girls and honestly I think it would take a real fashionista to make this look not look cheesy or tacky, and I believe that Gabrielle is the right girl to really make this look come to life in a chic and high fashion manner. Lately Gabrielle has been loving statement bags on the red carpet. Now I want to see her bring one with her to the Teen Choice Awards, but the slot machine bag that the look was paired with on the runway is a little much. I would add a Judith Leiber ‘Stack of Cash Rich’ crystal embellished minaudiere to keep the Vegas high roller vibe from the runway going. A ponytail of braids, defined eyes, nude lips, a pair of gold Gianvito Rossi studded PVC and metallic leather ankle strap d’Orsay pointed toe pumps, and a selection of Jennifer Fisher jewels including ‘Double Pin’ 18k gold and white diamond earcuffs and 2″ ‘Hailey’ 10k gold plated hoops would finish this look perfectly. Aladdin star Mena Massoud is the only dude in my 2019 Teen Choice Awards wishes. He definitely showcased some amazing sartorial decisions over the course of the Aladdin press tour earlier this year and it makes me want to see him step out on this red carpet where he is nominated for Choice Sci-Fi/Fantasy Movie Actor for his breakout role in the Disney film. I decided that instead of going to one of the brands that Mena has worn on the red carpet thus far I decided that I want to see him expand her dossier of designers rocking this grey and black Dior Men Spring 2020 Menswear ensemble which features a short sleeve zip up trucker jacket, a Dior logo button down (I would like a short sleeve version for this red carpet though), a pair of high waisted pleat front pants, and a seat belt buckle belt. Since Kim Jones took over the reins at Dior Men I have loved every season just a little more and Spring 2020 Menswear had to be my favorite collection yet. This look is the right balance of high fashion style and casual tone that I think would make this a perfect look for him to bring to life on this red carpet. I would however swap the chunky boots from the runway in favor of black and white Dior Men ‘B24’ sneakers to make the look just slightly more casual for this red carpet. At the end of last year I put Naomi Scott on my Ones to Watch list, and she has not disappointed me. I am really excited to see what the rest of the year has in store for Naomi as she gears up for another major promo tour for Charlie’s Angels. At the 2019 Teen Choice Awards Naomi is nominated for Choice Sci-Fi/Fantasy Movie Actress and I am expecting that if we see her on this red carpet that she will deliver an absolutely glamorous moment. I saw this purple, black, and red geode print Prabal Gurung Resort 2020 wrap style mini dress which features a V-neckline, mutton sleeves, and an elongated drape tie at waist and immediately thought of Naomi. I feel like this color on Naomi would be phenomenal. A sleek center parted hairstyle, purple smokey eyes, soft nude pink lips, a pair of purple and red Alexandre Birman strappy metallic leather sandals, and simple Martin Katz amethyst and diamond drop earrings would finish this look in the perfect sexy and glamorous manner. Sofia Carson is always one I get excited to see on the red carpet. She is unafraid of taking risks when it comes to drama and that I what I am always happy to see from her when she steps out. Will she bring that same level of “extra” to the red carpet at the 2019 Teen Choice Awards? I definitely hope so. I would love to see the Choice Drama TV Actress nominee be one of the few rocking couture on this red carpet wearing this ruby red Zuhair Murad Fall 2019 Couture long sleeve mini dress which features a semi sheer construction, intricate bead and crystal embroidery, metal details on the waist, and flared feather detailed cuffs. I was honestly looking in my couture folder for someone else, but as soon as I saw this dress I knew it was the perfect look for Sofia to bring to life on this red carpet. It is fun, flirty, and dramatic. Now while for other red carpets I might have really done up the styling for this look I think that it is enough on its own for the Teen Choice Awards red carpet so I would just finish this look with a sleek high ponytail, defined eyes, red lips, and a pair of red Jimmy Choo ‘Minny’ simplistic strappy sandals.Finishing out today’s wishes is the gorgeous Yara Shahidi whom I always love seeing on the red carpet. She is nominated for three Teen Choice Awards this weekend and I definitely want to see her deliver a major moment on this red carpet. To do so I turned to one of my favorite young NYC based fashion brands, Area, to come up with the perfect look for her to do just that. I think that this watermelon pink Area Fall 2019 RTW tie-dye mini dress which features a crystal trimmed bow detail on the bodice, a crew neckline, and three quarter length sleeves is perfect for Yara to deliver on this red carpet. I think that like other looks I’ve picked for this red carpet fit the perfect meshing of casual and cocktail. Finishing this look with full bouncy curls, defined eyes, nude glossy lips, a pair of silver Miu Miu glitter detailed mirrored leather platform sandals, and Djula ‘Sun’ diamond hoop earrings would definitely lead to Yara having the major moment I want her to have on this red carpet.

The 2019 Teen Choice Awards will take place on Sunday August 11, 2019.

2019 Met Gala Red Carpet Wish List Part 18

I cannot believe we are here. Two weeks from this years Met Gala and my final set of wishes for this years red carpet. At the end of this list I will have picked 106 wishes for stars to rock on this years Met Gala red carpet and hopefully left all of my readers a little more informed on what ‘Camp’ style is. I had my own idea of what ‘Camp’ is when I picked all of the looks for this years wishes, but then when I started the journey of actually writing these lists I started reading “Notes on ‘Camp'” by Susan Sontag since it is what Costume Institute curator in charge Andrew Bolton used as the basis of the exhibit that became the ‘Camp: Notes on Fashion’ theme of this years gala. Sontag says, “The whole point of Camp is to dethrone the serious. Camp is playful, anti-serious. More precisely, Camp involves a new, more complex relation to “the serious.” One can be serious about the frivolous, frivolous about the serious.” So I definitely want to see everyone take risks. Camila Mendes’ Riverdale co-stars Lili Reinhart and Cole Sprouse made their Met Gala debut last year, and this year I am hoping that Camila will get her turn on the red carpet for fashions biggest night. She has been heavily embraced by Prabal Gurung in the half year and since Prabal usually has quite the crew on the Met Gala red carpet I am hoping that he will give Camila her first Met Gala moment in a few weeks. When it comes to Prabal on the Met Gala red carpet he doesn’t usually send a girl up those famous Met steps wearing an off the runway gown. They are always custom gowns, or at least customized versions of runway looks. I figure that isn’t going to change, but if it does I definitely think that Camila would look oh so beautiful wearing this black, pink, and purple Prabal Gurung Fall 2019 RTW ‘Herrat’ embroidered tulle ballgown which is embellished with vibrant imagery throughout and features a deep V-neck and an A-line silhouette. This gown could be worn as presented and be absolutely beautiful, but it could also be the starting point for a custom gown that adds a dramatic train and feathers to really bring the ‘Camp’ aesthetic to this very pretty gown. I would style the gown, in whichever version, with a sleek updo, defined eyes, antique rose pink lips, a blush pink Judith Leiber Couture crystal embellished box clutch, a pair of simple black Jimmy Choo ‘Misty’ sandals, and a selection of Brumani jewels including a pair of blush pink amethyst, rose quartz, and diamond teardrop earrings and a matching cocktail ring to definitely make this an absolutely amazing moment for Camila to deliver for her Met Gala debut. At one point Anna Wintour had vowed that no Kardashian or Real Housewife of any city would be invited to the Met Gala. That started to change in 2013 when Kim Kardashian was knocked up by Kanye and Anna allowed the couple to attend that years punk themed gala. It was reported by Radar Online (a totally reliable source NOT!) that while Anna had warmed to Kim that the rest of the Kardashians and Real Housewives were still a no go. “Anna would never, ever allow a group of Real Housewives to rub shoulders with fashion’s elite,” a source told Radar Online. Well obviously since then Anna has warmed much more to the Kardashian Klan inviting Kris, Kendall, and Kylie to the event in years past. Well I am hoping this year is the year that Anna finally warms to the idea of inviting a Real Housewife. Erika Jayne is definitely in a class above a lot of the other ladies of the Real Housewives franchises. She brings high fashion to her life every day. She has been embraced by magazines including L’Official, Harper’s Bazaar, and CR Fashion Book and has even appeared on Vogue.com in digital content and so I am hoping that she is allowed to attend this years Met Gala, because she definitely knows ‘Camp.’ She wears a lot of Moschino and Jeremy Scott so when I was thinking of perfect guests for the eccentric designer to bring to this years Met Gala Erika was at the top of my list. It might be a long shot, but I am hopeful. So I messaged Evita and said I needed something major and gave her a general idea of what I wanted and she delivered. Erika Jayne’s custom Moschino gown is inspired by the brands Fall 2019 RTW and Spring 2015 RTW collections. The ‘Sparkly Pro Clean’ printed halter gown embellished with rock crystals and the sequin stars hails from the Fall 2019 RTW collection and the white organza ruffled train hails from the Spring 2015 RTW collection. All put together this gives that kitschy drama that Moschino is known for and I definitely think that Erika can serve the look up smokin’ hot. When Erika serves a look she commits. I want to see her really go for it adding a sleek ‘I Dream of Jeannie’ high ponytail, winged eyes, bright pink lips, long white gloves, a pair of silver, florescent yellow, and florescent pink Christian Louboutin ‘Lady Bug’ peep toe pumps, and a selection of Bayco ‘Magnificent’ collection diamond and sapphire jewels would definitely ensure that Erika owns the Met Gala red carpet. When Henry Golding first popped onto the fashion radar last year during the promo tour for Crazy Rich Asians wearing colored and textured Tom Ford tuxedos I had high expectations for what he would wear over the course of awards season. Unfortunately he ended up going the very classic black and white route most of awards season. I am PRAYING that if Anna Wintour invites him to this years Met Gala, which would be his first, that he embraces bold style. I think that this lilac BOSS Fall 2019 Menswear tuxedo is perfect for Henry to wear for this years Met as it is cut in the classic shape of a peak lapel tuxedo, but the color, and the differing fabrics of the collar, cuff, pocket line, and pants strip all add to the ‘Camp’ aesthetic of this look. Now I would add a classic white tuxedo shirt, black bow tie, and a pair of simple black patent leather BOSS oxfords to make sure this look is still authentic to Henry’s style while still keeping with the theme. Letitia Wright gave me underwhelming looks all awards season and I am hoping that if she attends this years Met Gala that she will deliver something absolutely amazing. She loves herself a pants look on the red carpet so she is one of the few ladies whom I shunned a gown or cocktail dress in favor of red carpet lady pants for. I LOVE this Peter Pilotto Fall 2019 RTW one sleeved jumpsuit which features a metallic fiber orange and royal blue draped bodice with a single puffy sleeve and dark red satin fitted trousers and I definitely think that it fits the ‘Camp’ theme, but also stays true to Letitia’s personal style. Her signature short hair, defined eyes, nude lips, a pair of gold metallic lizard print Jimmy Choo ‘Love’ pointed toe pumps, and Irene Neuwirth fire opal and diamond chandelier earrings would add the perfect finishing to this look.My final wish for this years Met Gala is for another newbie, Naomi Scott. She will be getting ready to kick off the promo tour for the much anticipated live action Aladdin and with the major Valentino moments she has been rocking lately I would imagine that if Naomi receives an invitation to this years gala that she will be part of the Valentino crew. I definite am obsessed with this royal blue Valentino Spring 2019 RTW ball gown which features ginormous sleeves, a scoop neckline, lots of ruffles, and a tiered ball skirt and I am hoping that Naomi is brave enough to take a risk and bring this gown to life on the Met Gala red carpet. Now honestly Naomi has a very petite frame so I wonder if there is too much volume here for her, but I think that she could power through it and make it seem effortless. I would make this look perfect for a Met Gala debut styling it with a sleek updo, navy smokey eyes, dark red lips, a pair of royal blue Tamara Mellon ‘Deco’ platform sandals, and a Bulgari High Jewelry ‘Serpenti’ diamond collar necklace with sapphire and emerald details.

I want to leave you with just one more quote from “Notes on ‘Camp'” to think about when we ultimately judge the looks that come down the Met Gala red carpet: “The ultimate Camp statement: it’s good because it’s awful . . . Of course, one can’t always say that. Only under certain conditions.”

The 2019 Met Gala will take place on the first Monday in May: May 6, 2019.
