2021 SAG Awards Red Carpet Wish List Part 4

While the ceremony will be shorter this year, the Screen Actors Guild will still hand out its annual awards. The 2021 SAG Awards will air on Sunday, April 4, in a one-hour, pre-taped event, the show’s producers announced in early March. Hostless, and absent the normal banquet and red carpet, the shows producers have revealed that they still have a lot planned to honor the best actresses and actors of the year. I am very interested in seeing what the show will be and even more importantly what the fashion will be. With the abbreviated and pre-recorded show will the stars still turn out gowns and glamour? We will have to wait till Sunday night to find out. In the meantime let’s make a couple more wishes for what could be for this years show shall we? Despite all her nominations this season Cate Blanchett has skipped out on every single virtual awards show and I HATE it. I always love seeing Cate on the red carpet and I am missing her turning out looks. I’ve picked major looks from Alberta Ferretti, archive Armani Prive, and Lanvin and I am continuing that with the look I’ve picked as the must see moment for Cate to wear for the SAG Awards, even if I am doubtful that she will zoom into the ceremony. Cate has long been a fan of Givenchy and has worn looks from all of the brands creative directors. So I would love to see her try to sell me a look from Matthew Williams helm at the brand. I have been imagining Cate wearing this one shoulder white column gown which features a macrame detailed bodice and a tassel detail from the Givenchy Fall 2021 RTW collection. This collection is far from one I really love, but I feel like this gown modified to be lined for modesty (which I am sure will happen for retail) would be a super edgy glam moment for Cate. We usually love Cate more in her classic glam moments, but when she serves up edge I am in love with her looks. I obviously would ditch the coat and style this gown with a sleek updo, defined eyes, soft pink lips, a pair of white satin Aquazzura ‘Bow Tie’ crystal embellished pointed toe pumps, and statement aquamarine and emerald Chopard Red Carpet Collection 2020 drop earrings would make this a major fashion moment for Cate. Elle Fanning is nominated with her fellow The Great cast members for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series. After her super glam custom Gucci gown with Fred Leighton jewels at the Golden Globe Awards I am dying to see Elle give us a super glam moment for the SAG Awards. Now as she isn’t nominated individually or presenting I’m not sure that we will, but I definitely believe that if this were a normal year that Elle would have served up a MAJOR glam moment. I just fell in love with this white strapless beaded tea length cocktail dress from the Georges Hobeika Spring 2021 Couture collection which features sheer detail, 3D floral embroidery, and POCKETS. I feel like Elle with her classically glamorous sensibility would easily be able to sell this look to me. Cocktail dresses for the SAG Awards aren’t really a norm for me, but I think that with a sleek retro inspired updo, defined eyes, bold red lips, a pair of white Sergio Rossi ‘Sr1’ crystal studded square toe ankle strap sandals, and a dazzling white diamond Harry Winston teardrop and scroll detailed collar necklace would definitely elevate this look to the level of glamour needed for a major awards show red carpet. Gillian Anderson took home both a Golden Globe Award and a Critics Choice Award for her performance as Margaret Thatcher in The Crown. That same performance has earned her a nomination for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Drama Series at the 2021 SAG Awards. She is up against her co-star Emma Corrin and I would say that it will most likely be Emma that takes home the Actor. Now in terms of fashion Gillian has exclusively worn Dior Couture this awards season. While I don’t hate her looks I also would love to see her branch out. I know Gillian has some fashion chops and I would love to see her give cozy glamour wearing this petrol blue knit Loewe Spring 2021 RTW long sleeve gown which features multicolored sequined strewn about, a thigh high split, and a knotted sash belt. While a knit gown is not something we would expect to see for any major award shows and I totally understand, but in lockdown I love the idea. Why not take advantage of it now? To make this look SAG Awards perfect for Gillian I would style it with a loose romantic updo, defined eyes, light pink lips, a pair of petrol blue crystal embellished mesh Gianvito Rossi ‘Rania 105’ pointed toe pumps, and dazzling white diamond London collection by De Beers ‘Thames Path’ teardrop cluster earrings. There was a huge snub that the Golden Globes and the Critics Choice Awards didn’t nominate Michaela Coel for her performance in I May Destroy You. Well the SAG Awards rectified that and I am hoping that she will bring us a major look. I went through a lot of options when I was thinking about what I wanted to see Michaela wearing for the SAG Awards. Ultimately I decided to go with a customized version of this rose gold sequined Off White Resort 2021 asymmetrical slip style dress which features thin spaghetti straps and the brands name embroidered on the front. I would customize this into a floor length gown with a bit of a train to really make this a glamorous moment for the first time SAG Award nominee to wear for her first ceremony. I would style this custom gown with a short afro, defined eyes, ruby red lips, a pair of rose gold Sophia Webster ‘Rosalind’ three strap crystal heel metallic leather sandals, and simple yet dazzling 18k pink gold set Hueb ‘Luminus’ white diamond cluster earrings to really make it a MAJOR fashion moment for Michaela to bring to life on the “red carpet.” Phoebe Dynevor might have been the Diamond of Bridgerton and I tell you that had awards season happened like normal that she would have been the Diamond this season as well. She rocked an edgy glam Louis Vuitton cocktail dress from the Critics Choice Awards and for the SAG Awards where she is nominated with her cast for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series I would have love to see her bring something feminine and romantic to the red carpet. I have been thinking about Phoebe wearing this blush pink Chanel Spring 2021 Couture a-line tea length gown which features thin straps, defined waist, tiered skirt, and red and white dot embroidery all over. It is gorgeous and I know that Phoebe would bring the statuesque elegance to the red carpet. I would style it with a sleek updo, soft dewy makeup with light pink lips, red leather Christian Louboutin ‘Loubi Queen 100’ ankle strap sandals, and a selection of David Webb jewels including a pair of white diamond and ruby feather drop earrings and a matching ruby and white diamond cocktail ring to really make it scream glamour.

The 2021 SAG Awards special will broadcast on Sunday April 4, 2021. You can see all my wishes for this years show here.

Dream Inaugural Ball for President Joe Biden Red Carpet Wish List Part 4

COVID-19 has stolen so many red carpets from us. The latest casualty are the traditional inaugural balls following the swearing in of a President of the United States. Now while President Trump didn’t have troves of celebrity following to add more dazzle to the balls, President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris do. So I am really disappointed in the fact we aren’t going to see these supporters get up and dazzle in the ballrooms of Washington D.C. Beyonce was relatively silent this election cycle until right before the election where she posted a photo of herself on Instagram wearing a full Balmain ensemble and a Biden/Harris mask saying “Let’s do this Texas.” I was honestly surprised that we didn’t see Beyonce do more especially with Kamala Harris. Now I still would have loved to see Beyonce give us a dazzling moment had she attended any of the inaugural balls and that is exactly what she would have done wearing this royal blue Nedo by Nedret Taciroğlu Fall 2020 Couture strapless trumpet gown with asymmetrical ruffle details and a hip high split. I did tend to go with American designers for these dream inaugural ball wishes, but I needed a dazzling couture moment for Beyonce. I know she would definitely own this moment and with a sleek retro inspired updo with white roses in her hair, thick wing defined smokey eyes, bold matte red lips, a pair of silver Jimmy Choo pointed toe d’orsay crystal fringe trimmed ankle strap pumps, and a selection of major Lorraine Schwartz jewels including ‘Mesh Collection’ sapphire drop earrings, a round sapphire cocktail ring, and a geometric white diamond cocktail ring it would be retro glamour defined. Darren Criss was a part of the virtual Biden inaugural event “America United: An Inauguration Welcome Event Celebrating America’s Changemakers” on Saturday. I would definitely have marked that as a reason why he would have been given a ticket to one of the inaugural balls had there been any. I always love seeing Darren and his style on red carpets and so I feel like this really is a potential major menswear moment stolen from us due to the pandemic. Had he done a look for an inaugural ball I would have loved to see him rep American based designer Virgil Abloh and this ensemble from the Off-White c/o Virgil Abloh Resort 2021 collection which features a grey blazer with a half band belt waist and skinny fir black trousers. Now I love this look and it is definitely something that Darren would be drawn to. I would make the look more formal with the styling to make it appropriate for an inaugural ball with a crisp white shirt, black bow tie, and a pair of Thom Browne classic long black leather wingtip brogues with a red, white, and blue striped grosgrain strap. It would be statement making with a nod to patriotism. Demi Lovato will be performing tomorrow night at an event titled “Celebrating America” which will take the place of the traditional inaugural balls. I haven’t always loved Demi’s style and I was uber disappointed in most of her looks from the People’s Choice Awards last year. Demi and her stylist Siena don’t have a lot of pull with major designers so I turned to the resource that they used for most of her PCA’s looks, Albright LA. Albright is a fashion rental library where stars and stylists can rent looks for red carpets and editorials. I went through their virtual racks and found this super glam art deco inspired black and silver beaded Tom Ford sleeveless column gown. It is super simple in silhouette, but it definitely packs some glamour. I think it would go great with the pink high and tight pixie that Demi just debuted on Instagram. I would definitely have gone with a high glam styling with defined eyes, dark rose pink lips, a black crystal embellished Judith Leiber ‘Slim Slide’ clutch, a pair of black satin Tom Ford crystal embellished wrap around ankle strap sandals, and a little more sparkle via Messika Paris ‘Desert Bloom’ feather inspired cluster earrings to really make this look absolute perfection. When it comes to country music stars they tend to skew Republican, but Maren Morris made a very passionate plea for people to vote for Joe Biden. She made the plea during an I Will Vote event and said “Coming from a Southern family with a conservative background, throughout my childhood I was always taught to treat people with respect and dignity, no matter their race, their religion, their sexual orientation and, yes, event their political party. But like a lot of us, I’ve been in perpetual shock watching what’s happened to our country these last few years.” Well now America is about to have a new president and I would have loved to see Maren show up and serve up a glamorous look. I don’t always love what Maren wears on the red carpet, but I always give her the benefit of the doubt. I went into the Naeem Archives to find this gorgeous gown with a silver intricately crystal embellished bustier and a lilac silk charmuse wrap style skirt and a thigh high split from the Indian born New York based designer’s Spring 2015 RTW collection. I have gone through a couple brands archives to find amazing looks for these wishes and found many amazing unworn gowns like this one. I feel like with a chic sleek center parted hairstyle slicked behind the ears, defined eyes, soft pink lips, a silver mirror crystal cut L’Afshar acrylic clutch, light purple and silver Grey Mer strappy platform sandals, and some dazzling jewel moments from Paul Morelli including a pair of elongated ‘Triptych’ brilliant cut white diamond, blue sapphire, pink sapphire, and purple sapphire drop earrings and a ‘Moderne’ purple sapphire and white diamond cocktail ring would definitely make this a very chic head to toe moment for Maren. In an opinion article she penned for The New York Times Padma Lakshmi said “when I heard the news of Kamala Harris and Joe Biden’s victory. I felt elated. Then suddenly I felt this heat welling up from my chest into my throat and it burst out of me in tears I could not control. At first I didn’t even know why I was sobbing. Finally, I was thinking. Finally a woman, and a woman of color, takes this office.” During the campaign Padma participated in virtual events to work to elect Biden and Harris, specifically working to get out the vote of members of the South Asian community. Well to celebrate the success of the campaign and to mark this historical moment that means so much to Padma herself I would have been sure that we would have seen her on inauguration night giving us glamour at one of the balls. I had gone through my photo archives and found some designers who show in New York and picked this black and white Greta Constantine Spring 2021 RTW column gown which features a v-neck, puffy sleeves, and a cape almost immediately for Padma. It is statuesque glamour defined and I know that she would be able to really make it a major moment. Now while Greta shows in New York, she is based in Toronto, Canada. So she isn’t really an American designer, but I am still here for it. A sleek side parted low bun updo, defined eyes, bold red lips, a black croc leather Judith Leiber Couture ‘Cayman’ crystal embellished clasp clutch, white satin Aquazzura ‘Bow Tie’ crystal embellished pointed toe pumps, and a nod to Kamala and her famous pearls with a pair of TASKI Atelier ‘Aurora’ white diamond and akoya pearl drop earrings would add the perfect finishing touches to this extremely glamorous look. Rasario Dawson participated yesterday in the “United We Serve: A Celebration of the National MLK Day of Service” and she is the girlfriend of Senator Cory Booker, so yea I definitely would have expected to see her in Washington, D.C. for one of the inaugural balls this year. I’ve always loved that Rosario is an outspoken activist and she is appealing to the better angels after supporting Bernie Sanders in the Democratic primary over Joe Biden, but is now throwing her support behind the new president. When it comes to fashion Rosario can be a little hit or miss for me, but when I thought of Rosario wearing this white one shoulder Sergio Hudson Fall 2020 RTW column gown with gold belt buckle details on the shoulder and the waist I thought it could be a really chic moment for her to rock. Sergio Hudson is a black owned luxury women’s ready-to-wear label designed and produced entirely in Los Angeles so checks all the boxes of a Made in America label which Joe is really advocating for in supporting to help us weather the pandemic and job loses. I would have loved to see Rosario give us glamour styling this gown with old Hollywood waves, defined smokey eyes, deep red glossy lips, a gold lizard embossed Tyler Ellis ‘Lily’ clutch, a pair of gold Giuseppe Zanotti ‘Kate’ ankle cuff sandals, and more pearls to honor from another young black designer with a pair of MATEO NY 14k gold baroque pearl trio dangle earrings.

2020 MTV Video Music Awards Red Carpet Wish List Part 5

Today’s wishes are about the men who are nominated and performing at the 2020 MTV Video Music Awards. I am really interested in seeing what this award show will turn out to be. When it comes to major menswear moments the men of music know how to live up to my life motto of “When In Doubt Be Extra.” So when I was picking menswear moments for the VMA’s I got to have a lot of fun going for real avant garde fashion moments for the men below to bring to life. A$AP Rocky is known for bringing the fashion factor to the red carpet. He has favored Dior Homme since Kim Jones took the helm, but instead I went to another super hyped brand for him to wear for the VMAs. I LOVE this black and chocolate brown Bottega Veneta Fall 2020 collection ensemble which features a dancing shadow sheer knit button down long sleeve top, a pair of high waisted straight leg pants, and a cummerbund. It isn’t a look for the faint of heart and I think that A$AP Rocky would definitely be able to sell it to me with ease for the VMAs. Harry Styles is a Gucci devotee. I live that Harry, especially as a a straight man, wants to blur the lines of gender on the red carpet. Unfortunately it often doesn’t work and he ends up looking like a grandma in ill-fitting clothing. Had there been a red carpet for this years VMAs I would have LOVED to see Harry rock this peach and bright floral printed Gucci Resort 2021 Menswear suit which features a box cut double breasted jacket, flared wide leg trousers, and a beige pussy bow blouse. It is definitely right up Harry’s sense of style and I feel like we will definitely see him bring this look to life at some point. His tousled waves and a pair of oatmeal leather Gucci horsebit leather loafers would finish this look perfectly. John Legend is nominated in two new categories at the VMA’s. He could take home the Moonperson for Best Music Video from Home and/or Best Quarantine Performance. Now with his awards being taken from the Pandemic performance shift I would imagine that if John won anything that he will accept it from home super casual. It’s a shame because I always love seeing him and wife Chrissy Teigan rocking a red carpet. So of course I had to pick two looks for the couple as if there were going to be a red carpet. For John I would have loved to see him rock this Off-White c/o Virgil Abloh Resort 2021 Menswear suit which features a grey single button blazer with an asymmetrical band detail on the waist and a pair of slim fit black trousers. Now I would have switched up the styling a bit instead styling it with a crisp white shirt, a black bow tie, and a pair of black Christian Louboutin ‘Met Greggo’ glitter, patent, and velvet silver heeled cap toe oxfords. Now for Chrissy, who recently announced that she was pregnant, I went with fun glamour opting for this black and silver beaded fringe covered Azzaro Fall 2019 Couture halter gown which features a loose fit and a side split. This gown would be a super glam maternity moment and I feel like Chrissy would definitely be able to sell it to me giving a bit of a twist and twirl to really work that fringe to it’s full potential. A sleek updo, smokey eyes, bold red lips, a pair of black Christian Louboutin ‘Follies Strass’ crystal embellished mesh pointed toe pumps, and dazzling white diamond Butani chandelier earrings would definitely make sure this couple, as usual, would have delivered glamour on the VMA’s red carpet. I love Maluma. He is always one to serve a look so I am really excited to see what he will wear for the VMAs where he is both nominated and performing. I went through a gambit of different labels when I was thinking about what to pick for Maluma, but it was this Dior grey two button double breasted Dior Men Spring 2019 Menswear suit with a cream to fuchsia ombre silk sash kept popping back into my mind. We’ve seen a couple iterations of this look on the red carpet thanks to Gwendoline Christie and Darren Criss, but I feel like Maluma would definitely give this style a MAJOR red carpet moment. The runways t-shirt and a pair of silver Balenciaga tyrex nylon, mesh, faux leather, and rubber sneakers would add the perfect finishing touches to this ensemble for Maluma. The last look today is for Travis Scott. I’ve definitely kept an eye on Travis and his style. He tends to favor looks from Dior Homme or Louis Vuitton, but I saw this sunset print Balmain Resort 2021 Menswear blazer and matching button down shirt worn unbuttoned with a black t-shirt and black trousers and it spoke to me. It is a super cool look and I feel like Travis would bring his effortless cool vibe to this look for sure. I would finish the look with statement sneakers via a pair of black and gold Giuseppe Zanotti ‘Talon’ low top sneakers to really make sure this look is cool from head to toe.

The 2020 MTV Video Music Awards will take place on Sunday August 30, 2020. You can see all my VMA’s wishes here.

2020 MTV Video Music Awards Wish List Part 1

Today we are kicking off my wishes for the 2020 MTV Video Music Awards with 9 major fashion moments I would love to see Keke Palmer to wear over the course of the evening as the shows hostess. “We’re thrilled to have the multi-talented Keke Palmer as this year’s ‘VMAs’ host,” said Bruce Gillmer, president of music, music talent, programming and events for ViacomCBS Media Networks, in a statement. “Keke is an energetic force and a quadruple threat with unmatched comedic wit who will make this year’s show truly unforgettable.” This years show was supposed to take place at the Barclay’s Center in Brooklyn, New York. While the show was set to go ahead with a limited audience of just nominees, presenters, and performers the show will now be shot all over New York City paying tribute to the city’s resillancy. As I was starting to think about the looks I wanted to see Keke wear over the course of the evening I started thinking about how this could be a great platform for her to make a statement wearing exclusively black designers. So all the looks below, including the shoes and jewelry, come from black creatives. I am so excited about each of these looks. It would be a great contigant of moments for Keke to bring to life. Look 1: To kick off the night I picked this gorgeous multi tone green completely beaded column gown which features puffy long sleeves, a collar neck, cutout chest, and a thigh high split from Esé Azénabor a Nigerian born Canadian transplant got to Texas as fast as she could. Hailing from a family who considered fashion design more of a hobby than a career, Esé started designing at the early age of 8 Years old. She had to sweep her creative urges under the rug because her maiden name “Azénabor” was grounded in the fields of medicine, law, and engineering, and she, in turn, attended the University of Windsor in Windsor Ontario, Canada majoring in Accounting. A move to Dallas,TX followed, to pursue a Master’s Degree at Southern Methodist University, detoured to following her dreams and started designing handmade dresses for herself, friends and family. This statement gown is super cool and I would love to see Keke give this gown a major style moment. This platform would allow Keke to give major exposure to brands that don’t have the same level as some of the big legacy houses. To complete this look I would style it with a sleek side parted low bun, forest green smokey eyes, nude glossy lips, a pair of BYDOSE ‘Aurum’ knotted thing strappy stiletto sandals, and Vanleles ‘The Nile’ white diamond and emerald stud earrings. Look 2: The second look I’ve picked for Keke is a much more recognizable name with a silver sequined Off-White c/o Virgil Abloh Fall 2020 RTW draped gown which features a ruffled scarf collar asymmetric neckline, and a side split. We know who Virgil is. He’s edgy and as he would say “glamorous.” This silver gown isn’t boundary pushing, I wouldn’t say most of Virgil’s looks are boundary pushing, but it would be a really cool moment for Keke to wear over the course of the VMA’s telecast. Style this look with the same hair, simple defined eyes, bold red lips, a pair of white Brother Vellies ‘Paloma’ feather wrap sandals, and a selection of Thelma West diamonds including old mine cut round drop earrings and an art deco inspired cocktail ring to ensure glamour from head to toe.

Look 3: Most of the looks I’ve picked for Keke are major gown moments so this raspberry pink crepe Cushnie Fall 2020 drapes strapless jumpsuit would be a nice change of pace from those more dramatic gowns. This jumpsuit is the perfect balance of sexy, chic, and elegant. I know that Keke would definitely infuse some more major sex appeal into this look styling it with a sleek center parted long straight hairstyle tucked behind the ears, defined eyes, matching raspberry pink lips, a pair of pink Voyetté ‘V’ crystal embellished ankle strap sandals, and Vanleles ‘Amor’ white diamond and ruby heart shaped earrings.

Look 4: Aliette is the brainchild of stylist Jason Rembert. He launched his formal wear collection last January and since has continued to showcase super chic evening wear in bold color and with great cut. I love this teal blue strappy cut out one shoulder column gown which features a hip high split and I feel like it would be a great moment for Keke to bring to life during her time as hostess of the 2020 VMA’s. Style it with a sleek high ponytail, smokey eyes, ruby red glossy lips, a pair of iridescent silver Voyetté ‘Naój’ crystal studded ankle strappy tie sandals, and MATEO New York 14k white gold set aquamarine, blue topaz, white diamond, and white pearl geometric drop earrings and it would be the definition of sexy glam for Keke.

Look 5: I first learned about Hanifa in the wake of the 2020 Black Lives Matter protests as Instagram started to flood with black owned fashion brands. It was out of these IG posts that I really came to the conclusion that I wanted to do a whole wish list dedicated to black owned fashion brands. The creative director Anifa Mvuemba hails from Congo and brings a very luxe aesthetic. I was looking at the label to pick the perfect moment for Keke and when I saw this tangerine orange ruched column gown which features ruffled cape sleeves I knew it was the perfect. It would hug all of Keke’s curves. A sleek updo, defined eyes, dark berry lips, a pair of gold piped clear PVC Jessica Rich ‘Love’ pointed toe d’Orsay pumps, and statement gold drop earrings and cuff from Adinkras Jewels would continue to ensure that Keke shuts down the VMA’s. Look 6: Sai Sankoh is a young fashion brand blended with vintage style and modern fashion. Created by entrepreneur and luxury fashion consultant Sai Sankoh. Sai is a native from Sierra Leone in West Africa and is deeply inspired by the glamour of the Old Hollywood Era. This bold red ‘Marcella’ asymmetric gown features a single sleeve, a very daring hip high curves cutout split, and a long train is a perfect example of balancing the old Hollywood glamour and modern sex appeal. In terms of design it’s the simplest in terms of idea and construction, but the color and the sex appeal is what will sell this look. I know that Keke can make it happen especially styled with a sleek updo, defined eyes, glossy nude lips, a pair of red Kendall Miles ‘Posh’ ostrich feather trimmed ankle strap d’Orsay pumps, and statement white diamond and ruby Vanleles ‘Enchanted Garden’ titanium flower earrings.

Look 7: I couldn’t do a list of looks from black designers for Keke to wear to host the VMA’s without including Christopher John Rogers. The designer has had a meteoric rise. Last January I didn’t know who he was. Then Lizzo wore his designs, then he had a major show at NYFW, then he won the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Award, and showed ANOTHER major show at NYFW. It’s from that second show that I pulled my wish for Keke. By CJR standards this black iridescent sequined strapless column from his Fall 2020 RTW show is very simple and tame, but I think with all of the drama in other looks that this chic look would be a great moment for Keke. Style it with old Hollywood waves, smokey eyes, deep red glossy lips, a pair of black Fenty ‘Cowgirl Hookup’ crystal trimmed strappy sandals, and a vintage art deco rhinestone choker from Serendipitous Project and it would scream glamour.

Look 8: ATAFO is Nigerian bespoke fashion tailor. He caught the attention of the fashion industry for the creation of his brand, Mai Atafo (now just ATAFO) and by enrolling the Leeds-based Savile Row Academy to further train as a tailor. You can see that tailoring expertise on display in this black and white gingham strapless asymmetrical corset bustier and skirt with a bold yellow bow on the hip. This a more casual vibe than the other looks I picked for Keke, but still a superb moment for the VMA’s. I would love to see her rock this look with a sleek center parted hairstyle tucked behind the ears, smokey eyes, bold fire engine red matte lips, black knotted leather Off-White c/o Virgil Abloh gladiator sandals, and a pair of blackened gold ALAMSIKA ‘Le Cauri Endiamante’ cowrie shell inspired drop earrings pave set with white diamonds.

Look 9: Closing out the wishes is another designer I couldn’t not include: Balmain by Olivier Rousting. He is the only black creative director for a major legacy fashion house and knows how to bring drama to the red carpet. I went back to his Spring 2020 RTW collection picking this black sheer striped chiffon gown which features orange and blue marbled geometric details, an off the shoulder neckline, poet sleeves, a center split, and a train because it just fits the VMA’s vibe. I could have gone with something more embellished, but this look spoke to me. It is a cool and edgy take on modern glamour which is exactly what I want to see Keke wear all night as she hosts the VMAs. This look would come together perfectly for her to close out the show with a sleek updo, defined eyes, matte bronze lips, a pair of black patent leather Balmain ‘Pippa’ peep toe gold metal detailed platform ankle strap sandals, and thick twisted Stella and Haas ‘Flora’ gold hoops.

The 2020 MTV Video Music Awards will take place on Sunday August 30, 2020.

2020 Cannes Film Festival What Could Have Been Wish List: “Country of Blind”

Bollywood actress Hina Khan spoke to Pinkvilla in an Instagram live late in March how her plans to attend the 2020 Cannes Film Festival were upended. She said she was set to attend the prestigious film festival for her film, Country of Blind. Now I will say that amongst the prediction lists from some of the top festival watch websites her film Country of Blind was not on any of them. The film is based on an 1904 story of H. G. Wells of the same name in which an expert mountain climber named Abhimanyu falls into a strange and isolated society of “non-seeing” people – claimed to have been in existence for fifteen generations and cut off from the rest of the world. Abhimanyu decides quickly that “in country of the blind, the one-eyed man is king”. He fails in his efforts and gets trapped instead. Nevertheless to reports from the articles of rumored according to the films star it was supposed to be featured in Cannes in some capacity prior to the Coronavirus outbreak so I wanted to make sure that the film was featured here. Hina Khan made her Cannes Film Festival red carpet debut at one of the late premiere red carpets last year wearing a dramatic Ziad Nakad cape sleeve gown. It wasn’t something I really noticed at the time, but it definitely was a dramatic I HAVE ARRIVED moment for the actress to bring to life on the red carpet. So I picked two superb moments for Hina to bring to life at the 2020 Cannes Film Festival. First for the Country of God photocall I went shopping on London based online retailer AASHNI + CO. whose mission is to pioneer the most desirable edit in Indian high fashion. I found this super chic burgundy and beige printed Soup by Sougat Paul casual kurta dress which features a jewel neckline, 3/4 gypsy sleeves, and a handkerchief hemline and thought it would be such a super chic casual moment. This look would be a super easy, breezy moment for Hina to wear for a Cannes Film Festival photocall. Styled with with a casual curled updo, smokey eyes, nude lips, a pair of light brown Stuart Weitzman ‘Soliesse’ snake-embossed leather chunky heel platform sandals, a wide brown leather Gucci logo belt, and elegant Nepra by Neha Goel kundan jadau and zirconia teardrop pendant drop earrings I know this look would be a perfect elevated casual moment for Hina. For the premiere I turned back to the same label that dressed her for the 2019 Cannes Film Festival, Ziad Nakad. The Lebanese couturier shows in Paris and has been on the more underrated side when it comes to dressing stars on the red carpet. I have loved some of the gorgeous gowns the designer has sent down his runways of the last several years, but we haven’t seen his designs pick up steam on the red carpet. I would love to see Hina bring this tangerine Ziad Nakad Spring 2020 Couture one shoulder ball gown which features intricate crystal embroidery, an a-line skirt, open cross strap back, and a thigh high split. This is definitely a statement making gown and I think that it would be another major statement making moment for the actress to wear on the red carpet at the Palais de Festivals especially if styled with a sleek updo, smokey eyes, light pink lips, a pair of metallic gold Jimmy Choo ‘Shiloh’ crystal embellished ankle strap sandals, dazzling Anabela Chan ‘Ruby Asscher Drop’ cocktail earrings hand-set with an array of laboratory-grown synthesized and simulated gemstones including two princess-cut rubellite and pink sapphire, with pear, emerald, princess and round brilliant-cut rose tourmalines, orange and pink sapphires, and a statement Anabela Chan ‘Coral Opal Ocean’ cocktail ring intricately made of a central salmon pink opal cabochon, pink tourmalines, pink and orange sapphires, Lilac amethysts and white diamonds.Andie MacDowell is an ambassador for L’Oreal Paris and has made her way to Cannes almost every year to promote the brand on the red carpet. I love that L’Oreal sends their spokesmodels to Cannes, typically between 2 and 3 every day for the duration of the festival, just to walk the red carpet and add drama and glamour to the red carpet. I am really intrigued to see what Andie will wear on the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival. I never know what the actress is going to bring to the red carpet. Sometimes it is really good and sometimes she takes risks and they do not pay off. I personally think that when she showcases sleek, more simplistic elegance on the red carpet which is why I turned to this MAJOR red sequin Valentino Fall 2020 RTW long sleeve column gown which features a turtleneck and a side split. This gown is definitely one of the best gowns to come down the Fall 2020 RTW runways and I believe that it would be such a glamorous moment for Andie to bring to life on the Cannes Film Festival red carpet. A sleek updo, defined eyes, bold red lips, a pair of red Gianvito Rossi ‘Montecarlo’ crystal embellished ankle strap d’Orsay pointed toe pumps, and Chopard Red Carpet Collection white diamond and ruby wreath earrings would ensure that Andie delivers glamour from head to toe on this red carpet. Arizona Muse is a global brand ambassador for Chopard and has been on the Cannes Film Festival red carpet over the years representing the jewelry brand. She is also a really good friend to the London based couture house Ralph & Russo. So when I was thinking of what I should put the super model in for the Cannes Film Festival red carpet this year I of course had to turn to them for the perfect gown. I am honestly shocked that this monochrome ombré hand painted Ralph & Russo Fall 2019 Couture ballgown featuring a black silk velvet sweetheart bodice and a white silk organza skirt, hand pleated in a growing wave design edged with glass bead and crystal hand embellishments didn’t get picked up for the 2019 fall film festival season or for the 2020 awards season. I feel like director of VIP relations for Ralph & Russo Mohieb Dahabieh must be saving this gown for Cannes. I feel like on Arizona this gown would just scream classic glamour giving us old Hollywood glam vibes for days. So I went classic glam with the styling for this look as well pairing the gown with a sleek retro updo, smokey eyes, red lips, black Aquazzura ‘Cosima’ strappy pointed toe slingback pumps, and a selection of dazzling Chopard Red Carpet Collection jewels including a pair of white diamond and teardrop emerald pendant drop earrings and a white diamond paisley inspired cuff bracelet. It would definitely make sure this look is glamour defined from head to toe. Emily Ratajkowski has been to the Cannes Film Festival a handful of times in the past as a guest of some of the jewelry brands we see in Cannes. This year I decided that I wanted to see jewelry brand de Grisogono invite Emily to walk the red carpet at the Palais de Festivals to represent the brand. When it comes to the red carpet I usually either love or loathe what Emily is wearing. In the case of her past Cannes gowns it has always been loathe. I want to see her deliver super glamorous moments if she were to attend this year. So I turned to this silver liquid sequin Off-White c/o Virgil Abloh Fall 2020 RTW gown which features an asymmetrical halter neckline, a sheath silhouette, a ruffled detail on the neckline that turns into a draped detail on the back, and a daring side split. Off-White isn’t exactly the first brand I think of when I think of Cannes, and I wouldn’t really choose the brand for an actress presenting a film at the festival, but as a model I definitely think that Emily would usher in a new wave of glam to the Cannes red carpet. As presented this gown is perfect for Emily and I would love to see her wearing it, but as this is Cannes and there is a major Go Big or Go Home mentality I would love to see Virgil create a customized version of this gown for her that has a dramatic train. To keep the modern glam vibes alive I would style this look with a sleek high ponytail, smokey eyes, nude lips, a pair of silver metallic leather Christian Louboutin ‘Planetava’ pyramid studded ankle strap sandals, and of course a selection of major de Grisogono high jewelry including a pair of statement white diamond and emerald leaf fan drop earrings and a statement white diamond geometric cuff bracelet. Rounding out today’s wishes is for Chopard ambassador Zhang Ziyi. The Chinese actress is no stranger to Cannes having screened films at the festival, being a member of the feature film jury in 2006, and then as the president of the Un Certain Regard jury in 2013. I have always loved Zhang’s sense of glamour, elegance, and drama on the red carpet and I would love to see her once again bring that brand of je ne sais quoi to this years event. I thought of her wearing this Givenchy Spring 2020 Couture ‘Penesee’ strapless ballgown which features a white bustier bodice paired with a large purple embroidered pansy pattern bell shaped skirt with a high low hem and a dramatic train and I was immediately sold on this as a major moment for her to bring to this red carpet. The gown itself is a major moment, but the styling I envision with this look is just as dramatic with a sleek low bun updo, defined eyes, light pink lips, a pair of silver glitter Casadei ‘City Light Salome’ strappy pointed toe pumps, and a statement white diamond Chopard Red Carpet Collection ‘Queen of Kalahari’ collar necklace. Each piece is perfect on it’s own, but when paired together I know that Zhang would deliver regal glamour on the Cannes Film Festival red carpet.

2020 Met Gala Red Carpet Wish List Part 7

So I’m not going to lie. Last night as I was writing this post I also took stock in all the wishes I had. I realized that there were some stars and some designers I really wanted to make sure were featured, so I added two more parts to the end of my 2020 Met Gala wishes. So instead of 33 parts this series will continue to 35. What does that mean for today? Absolutely nothing. The looks below are ones I had already started to plan long before I made that off the cuff decision. In fact regular readers might notice that two of the wishes today also featured in my Fall 2020 RTW wishes from their respective fashion weeks. These wishes are all about having fun so make sure you keep checking back to see my latest, and I definitely recommend clicking links to see all the items I would use to style each look. Amal Clooney has attended 2 Met Gala’s in the past. The 2015 “China Through The Looking Glass” event wearing custom Maison Margiela by John Galliano and the 2018 “Heavenly Bodies” event (which she actually co-hosted) wearing custom Richard Quinn. Amal is definitely one of my favorite fashion stars and I am hoping to see her deliver high fashion moments on the Met steps this year. I would love to see Amal be the guest of Pierpaolo Piccioli and Valentino this year wearing this uber chic red silk off the shoulder ruched and pleated mermaid gown which features a black bow detail on one shoulder and a sweeping train. This gown is the epitome of classic Valentino and I really do believe that Amal would be the perfect person to really bring this moment to life. She has the statuesque glamour that I think is really needed to make this look come to life on the red carpet. A sleek bun updo, defined eyes, antique rose pink matte lips, a red suede Gianvito Rossi ‘Bella’ clutch, a pair of red suede Gianvito Rossi ‘MONTECARLO’ crystal embellished chain ankle strap pointed toe d’orsay pumps, and a suite of vintage ruby and white diamond jewels from Cartier that once belonged to Elizabeth Taylor including drop earrings and a wreath bracelet would definitely all make sure that Amal embodies this years Met theme of “About Time: Fashion & Duration.”In the last year I have really grown to appreciate Darren Criss’s style on the red carpet. He isn’t afraid to bold looks. So when I was hunting for the perfect guy yo wear this black and white Givenchy Fall 2020 Menswear ensemble which features a cream vest and black trousers worn sans shirt I knew that Darren has the chutzpah to bring the look to life on the red carpet. Now this is far from what we would typically expect to see from a man on the Met Gala red carpet. When I think of this red carpet I typically think of dudes going for something much more classic and well standard. This look is a vastly modern take on formal dressing and it will take the right person to bring it to life on the red carpet. I think that with Darren’s red carpet history that he has the brass balls big enough to really make this look work on the red carpet. His signature perfectly messy curls and a pair of black Christian Louboutin ‘Greggo Flat’ metallic velvet brocade crystal strass embellished cap toe oxfords would definitely accomplish the goal I set out with by picking this look for the Met: disrupting the menswear norms. Janelle Monae OWNED the red carpet at the 2019 Met Gala with her custom Christian Siriano ensemble which featured a blinking eye on one boob. Janelle has always abided by the theme of the Met and with this years theme fitting perfectly within Janelle’s usual sensibility I am really excited to see what she will bring to this years red carpet. Instead of going to one of the brands whom Janelle typically wears that are sure to be on the red carpet at the 2020 Met Gala, but instead I went to a look that really spoke to me instead. Antonio Marras, an Italian fashion label, has never had a Met Gala fashion moment. Janelle has worn so many unexpected labels on the Met red carpet so seeing her wearing this black and white Antonio Marras Fall 2020 RTW gown which features a white button down bodice with lace panels, a drop waist, and an a-line silhouette isn’t totally out of the realm of possibility. This look mixes menswear inspiration and 20’s flapper in such a chic and modern manner and I definitely believe that Janelle would make the major moment I know it could be on the Met steps. A chic finger wave updo, smokey eyes, bold red lips, a black and silver crystal embellished lace pattern Judith Leiber Couture ‘Petit Cadeau’ minaudiere, black chunky heel Miu Miu ‘Calzature Donna’ crystal embellished platform sandals, and a major selection of Yvan Tufenkjian ‘Stacked” collection white diamond jewels including a pair of cluster earrings, and three different cocktail rings (one, two, three) all would finish make this look Met Gala ready. Mandy Moore knows how to deliver feminine glamour on the red carpet. I’m surprised that Mandy has only walked the red carpet at the Met Gala once in the last decade. She is constantly wearing looks from the most coveted labels in the fashion industry. I want to see her give us dramatic feminine glamour on the 2020 Met Gala red carpet. This baby pink Carolina Herrera Fall 2020 RTW gown wasn’t presented on the runway, but I found it in the collection’s digital trunkshow on ModaOperandi. This column gown which features a v-neck and a dramatic bow back is perfect for this years theme. I would want to see Carolina Herrera’s creative director Wes Gordon customize this gown lengthening the tail of the bow into a long dramatic train. That would really make the gown itself PERFECT for this years red carpet. Finish the look with a sleek beehive updo, bronze smokey eyes, punchy pink lips, multi-tone pink crystal embellished Jimmy Choo ‘Cloud’ clutch, a pair of ballet pink glittered leather Jimmy Choo ‘Thaia’ crystal embellished strappy sandals, and dazzling hot pink rubellite Chopard Red Carpet Collection chandelier earrings and I know that Mandy could very well be one of my favorites of the night!I had picked this black ruffled Off-White c/o Virgil Abloh Fall 2020 RTW tracksuit gown for Serena Williams in my Paris Fashion Week wishes. The moment I saw this gown on the runway I knew that it would be perfect for Serena. It meshes sportswear and high glamour perfectly. Now thinking about what look from Off-White would fit this years Met Gala theme I thought this look was perfect. While it isn’t “Classic” by any standard I think that this look is the perfect way for Serena to deliver a look that fits the theme, but is still on brand for Off-White. Now as they say the devil is in the details. So styling is going to have to really make this look perfect. Now I would have Virgil add a dramatic train to this look for Serena to really bring the drama to the red carpet. I would make sure that Serena bring the classic glam to this look with the styling adding a sleek updo, defined smokey eyes, red lips, a pair of black satin Off-White x Jimmy Choo ‘Victoria’ chandelier beaded pointed toe pumps, and a selection of de Grisogono black and white diamonds including asymmetrical ribbon drop earrings and a wave dome cocktail ring.

PARIS FASHION WEEK FALL 2020 RTW RED CARPET WISH LIST PART 3

After today I am navigating uncharted waters. This set of wishes for looks that came down the runways of Paris Fashion Week a few weeks ago really finishes out all my immediate wishes for the Fall 2020 RTW runway season. Overall I have been really impressed and honestly sad at the thought that due to the COVID-19 crisis that many of these looks will end up lost to the archives of fashion history. Even if this list is the only place we will ever get to enjoy the idea of these looks on a red carpet then so be it. At least in this time of crisis we are able to maintain a sense of fantasy when reality is do bleak.

2020 Oscar Parties Red Carpet Wish List Part 2

Oscar night is always one of the most glamorous nights of the year. We can see upwards of 200+ looks on the red carpets of Oscar night. Despite the fact that last year I did not actually post a Best Dressed of the Year list an Oscar party look has never made the final cut for a BDOTY List. We have seen some superb moments on the red carpets at Oscar parties. I am specifically remembering Rosie Huntington-Whiteley in a mint green Ralph & Russo Couture at the 2018 Vanity Fair Party. That look was in my final round of cuts for my 2018 Best Dressed of the Year list, though that was a really tough year to make the list. I hope that with some of the people who I am rumored to hear are making an Oscar night appearance will deliver some major moments as I was super underwhelmed with last year. In all of today’s wishes I am featuring some of the looks that are hot off the Paris Haute Couture runways, Pre-Fall 2020 looks I am dying to see on the red carpet, as well as looks from Spring 2020 RTW I don’t want to see lost to the archive, as well as couture archive moments I am still waiting to see on the red carpet. Honestly if just a 1/3 of these could come true then this could be one of the best Oscar nights ever.

Oscar Night 2020 is Sunday February 9, 2020.

2019 American Music Awards: Hostess Ciara Red Carpet Wish List

Sunday night is the 2019 American Music Awards. This years show will be hosted by Ciara, and after the major performance by last years host Tracee Ellis Ross (both in comedy and in fashion) I would say that she has some big shoes to fill. I was actually really excited to start picking looks for Ciara to wear on the red carpet and stage for Sunday nights awards. I initially pulled almost 400 images of ready to wear and couture runway looks as well as some off the rack looks that I think would give Ciara the best stage wardrobe of any awards show host this year. I decided to be a little different in how I would present the wishes to you. Typically I would write paragraphs about each individual look picking all of the accessories that I would style the look with, but I just didn’t have time to style all the looks. But I still wanted to make sure I put out fashion wishes for Ciara which you can see below.

I started the night with a chic high low Elie Saab Spring 2019 Couture strapless gown for Ciara to wear on the red carpet. It is a glamorous and flirty moment that I think would kick the night off in style. Now that being said I am really excited about all the wardrobe changes that I’ve picked for Ciara to quick change into over the course of the show. In addition to that red carpet gown I picked 8 looks for Ciara to wear during the live show. They start with edgy glam in Jean Louis Sebaj Couture and travel through a color and length story throughout finishing with a statement tangerine orange Georges Hobeika Fall 2019 Couture jumpsuit with a major bow and sash moment. When it came to picking these looks I focused on two things color and embellishments. Really only two looks, a lime green silk Versace Spring 2020 RTW strapless mini dress and a hot pink hype beast vibe Off-White c/o Virgil Abloh Spring 2020 RTW high low gown, were devoid of any crystal embellishments. Pants looks also featured heavily as I picked all the looks I wanted to see Ciara wearing on the American Music Awards stage this weekend. Ultimately I decided on three very different pant moments for Ciara from Aliette, Balmain, and Georges Hobeika.

I do expect that Ciara will deliver a major night of fashion this weekend as she hosts the 2019 American Music Awards and I am really excited to see all of the looks that she will bring to life on this red carpet and stage.

The 2019 American Music Awards will take place on Sunday November 24, 2019.

2018 End of the Year Style Awards: Worst Dressed of the Year

We have reached the last day of my End of the Year Style Awards. The day of Worst and Best Dressed of the Year. I always start the day with Worst Dressed of the Year. It gets it out of the way so I can celebrate the best of the year. I always hate giving out worst dressed of the year because I tend to like to live on the side of light and love, but sometimes the looks are just so bad we have to take a moment to pause and reflect and learn from mistakes. 1) Raven Symone at the Daytime Emmy Awards: Topping this years Worst Dressed of the Year list is Raven Symone. The actress and talk show host attended the Daytime Emmy Awards earlier this year wearing a monstrosity of a gown that seemed to mesh digital iterations of Chinese print, futuristic pointed shoulders, and a zipped up Victorian silhouette. It looks like a deleted extra costume from A Wrinkle In Time. I would have hated this gown on anyone, but on Raven it really doesn’t flatter at all. It makes her look short and lumpy. Her beauty regiment with this look isn’t working either. It all is coming off way to costume-y.  2) Robert Pattinson in Dior Man Spring 2019 at the Toronto Film Festival premiere of High Life: This marks the first time a man has ever made my Worst Dressed of the Year list. I worked hard to feature more and more men on If I Was A Stylist this year, so it was inevitable that someone was going to make this list. I have always love the combination of Rob and Dior, but thus far I haven’t been feeling Rob in the brands looks under Kim Jones. The look he wore for the Toronto International Film Festival premiere of High Life though was especially terrible. The black suit jacket wasn’t bad, albeit a little on the large side, but the shiny pants and vest really didn’t work for me. I hate shiny because while they can look good in person they look terrible in photos. His grooming also really didn’t help it left the whole look feeling like he woke p through on a suit jacket and walked onto the red carpet.

3) Greta Gerwig in custom The Row at the Met Gala: The Met Gala is always a place I expect to see a Worst Dressed of the Year contender, and this year was no different. While I was overall impressed with how some stars handled the religious theme I was less than impressed with the custom nuns habit inspired ensemble from The Row that Greta Gerwig brought to the red carpet. She delivered so many chic moments on the red carpet during awards season I had really high expectations for what she would wear for the Met, and this look just looked like she was swearing a camping tent. The whole thing was overwhelming. Also like the two previous looks before it this gown was not helped by the hair and makeup. Is this a trend? Do stars know when they are wearing something terrible and just give up?

4) Laura Dern in Christian Dior Fall 2017 Couture at the Screen Actors Guild Awards: If we are counting how hair and makeup translates to bad looks I think that Laura Dern in Christian Dior Couture at the SAG Awards is another perfect example. I didn’t hate the dark forest green and grey fringed midi dress on the runway, I wasn’t thrilled with it either, there are a few people whom I think could have really sold it to me. Laura was never one of them. She had so many chic moments when she knew she was going to win, but I think this night she knew that it was her Big Little Lies co-star Nicole Kidman who was going to win, so she just kind of gave up. The whole look just ended up feeling very lifeless and flat from head to toe. 5) Noomi Rapace in Louis Vuitton Spring 2018 RTW at the Tokyo premiere of Bright: When I first learned about Noomi Rapace back when she achieved fame with her portrayal of Lisbeth Salander in the Swedish film adaptations of the Millennium series: The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, The Girl Who Played with Fire, and The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets’ Nest, which have since been portrayed by Claire Foy and Rooney Mara in English versions. Since then she has done nothing but disappoint me which is sad knowing the brands that dress her. She gave absolutely ridiculous homage to Kabuki theater in a Louis Vuitton Spring 2018 RTW ensemble at the Tokyo premiere of the Netflix film Bright. The look itself isn’t bad, it was more about the hair. That blunt a-line bob just looks absolutely ridiculous. Again we gave an ensemble that looks more like a costume than something worthy of a red carpet.

6) Margot Robbie in Chanel Cruise 2018 at the Critics Choice Awards: I go back and forth when it comes to Chanel ambassadors. Typically I love, but sometimes they get the bottom of the barrel. Being the new face on the block (the official announcement of Margot’s Chanel contract didn’t come for about a month and a half after the Critics Choice Awards) Margot Robbie got the bottom of the barrel apparently for the Critics Choice Awards earlier this year. I did love this gold and black layered stripe Chanel Cruise 2018 strapless gown which features a gold jeweled belted waist on the runway, so when I saw Margot wearing this gown on the red carpet I was really disappointed. It looked so glamorous on the runway and I was surprised that it hadn’t been worn. When I saw it on Margot the answer as to why was revealed. The makeup might have been on point but the top knot with the velvet ribbon in her hair didn’t do any favors to help Margot make the glamour of the look.

7) Nicki Minaj in Off-White c/o Virgil Abloh Fall 2018 RTW at the MTV Video Music Awards: Naked dresses are a dime a dozen anymore. We have seen the nipples, butts, and more of so many women on the red carpet. I don’t mind a good nude illusion, but when you leave nothing to the imagination it is hard for me to get behind a look on the red carpet. I know that sex is one of Nicki Minaj’s shticks, but this glorified bathing suit overlaid with a tulle skirt with a ruffled hem from Off-White c/o Virgil Abloh is just ridiculous. It doesn’t come across as trashy. I would see this look more suited for the AVN Awards instead of the VMAs. I guess when it all comes down it it I’ve never quite gotten Nicki’s style and she doesn’t seem to want to do “fashion,” but this is just trashy. #ThankUNext8) Paris Jackson in Gucci Spring 2018 RTW at the LACMA Art + Film Gala: Sometimes it pains me to put young fashionista’s on this list. I know that gaining your footing in the public spotlight can’t be easy, but when it’s Paris Jackson, who has literally grown up in the spotlight, it is a little easier. I know Paris has the potential to really wow me. She did so wearing alien couture for the Vanity Fair Oscar Party, but she closed out the year at the LACMA Art + Film Gala wearing a cream Gucci Spring 2018 RTW long sleeve gown with a beautifully embellished shoulder line and there were just way too many things going on in the look for me. On the runway this gown was presented light and care free, sans belt. That was sin number one with this look. Then she wore her hair down which competed with all those dazzling crystal embellishments. Topping it all off she wore those heinous Gucci chunky crustal strap sneakers with the gown. Now I very rarely accept a flat, let alone a sneaker, on the red carpet but these are just so far from being red carpet ready that it just makes me scratch my head as to why she chose them. Especially for this gown.

9) Anne Hathaway in Valentino Spring 2018 Couture at the Met Gala: This one pains me. I put Anne Hathaway on my Ones to Watch list last year because after taking a beat out of being in the spotlight she was headed for a major promo tour this year with Oceans 8. The tour, for Anne at least, failed miserably but it wasn’t one of those looks that landed her on this list. Before she even started promoting the movie she was on the red carpet at the Met Gala wearing a red silk taffeta gown from Valentino Couture that again looked more like a tent with a Christmas bow on it on Anne than a true couture creation. This wasn’t a gown I saw on the runway I thought was going to translate well to a red carpet, and I was right. Would someone of Amazonian height like Erin O’Connor worn this gown with aplomb? Potentially, but it overwhelmed Anne. The hair, makeup, and headpiece took this look from just tent-y to drab and matronly.

10) Kim Kardashian West in vintage Jean Paul Gaultier at the People’s Choice Awards: Rounding out this list is Kim Kardashian West in a vintage Jean Paul Gaultier midi dress that I actually like. Personally I think the style of the dress on Kim looks great. It looks custom made for her, not pulled off the racks of a vintage store. Where she totally lost me and this look ended up really failing me is in the styling (as is the case with most Kardashian red carpet looks.) I LOATHE those ankle boots. The create a very stump like effect. Kim isn’t very tall (which is always why I have been baffled at her love of midi dresses) so when she cuts off the ankle with a boot like that it just makes her look even shorter. I also hate the I Dream Of Jeannie pony tail. Now could this all be my hatred of the Kardashian’s jading me? Totally, but I really hated this look.

Which look was the most cringe worthy for you this year?
