2020 American Music Awards Red Carpet Wish List Part 2

Having watched the People’s Choice Awards this weekend I feel even more excited about the 2020 American Music Awards this weekend. We are hearing some amazing names of performers and presenters and I feel like in addition to the nominees that this could be one of the best nights of fashion since we’ve started social distancing. The looks in today’s wishes are as varried as the artists whom I want to see wearing them. I feel like some of these looks were made for the runway with these women in mind. I think the best case and point in looks being made for the runway inspired by a star I think is this fugly Louis Vuitton Spring 2021 RTW ensemble which features an oversized polo with a leather top and a diagonal striped bottom paired with a neon pop art wide leg shorts which I definitely think was made with Billie Eilish in mind. I hate the look because it isn’t my style at all, but I do think it is something that Billie would rock the look on a red carpet and American Music Awards is perfect. I can see it happening with Billie wearing the whole head to toe runway styling including those moon boot meets sneaker things that I just don’t understand, but that is what Billie’s style is to me. Jennifer Lopez shut down the People’s Choice Awards this weekend wearing a super cute voluminous Christian Siriano red bubble dress. Now while I loved that moment I want to see her bring some glamour to the red carpet at the American Music Awards this weekend where she will be performing “Pa’ Ti + Lonely” which are two songs recorded by JLo and Maluma for the soundtrack of their  upcoming film, Marry Me. I knew immediately what dress I wanted to see from Jennifer. I’ve been loving the idea of her bringing this silver asymmetrical Elie Saab Fall 2020 Couture fitted sequined and beaded tulle gown since the lookbook was released back in September. I feel like Jennifer would make this an uber sexy glam moment. Now I would leave the veil at home instead opting to style this gown with a sleek updo, smokey eyes, dark antique rose pink lips, a silver crystal embellished Judith Leiber Couture ‘Smooth Rectangle Polaris’ box clutch, silver dome studded PVC strap Christian Louboutin ‘Corinetta 100’ strappy sandals, and a selection of dazzling Harry Winston jewels including a pair of shell inspired white diamond cluster earrings and a vintage white diamond lattice bracelet from 1959. It would make for a major head to toe dazzling moment. Katy Perry will be giving the first ever live performance of her latest single “Only Love” off her new album Smile on Sunday night. I am always excited to see what Katy will bring to the red carpet and this is no different. I always love seeing what Katy will wear. I’ve picked two looks for her in these wishes with one for the red carpet and one for the actual performance. Starting with the red carpet I would love to see Katy give ethereal femininity wearing a raspberry pink to white ombre tulle Georges Hobeika Spring 2020 Couture asymmetrical gown which features a sheer side panel and dramatic caped sleeves. It is more of a feminine and soft look than I feel like we’ve seen Katy wear on the red carpet in a little while and I think it would be a great post pregnancy moment for Katy to bring to life on this red carpet. Style it with a romantic curly updo, defined eyes, raspberry pink lips, a pair of white satin Aquazzura ‘Bow Tie’ crystal embellished ankle strap sandals, and dazzling David Morris white diamond and pink conch pearl chandelier earrings to really make this look feminine glamour defined. Now I won’t lie to you I found the performance look for Katy first and thought about it being her red carpet look. I LOVE this red and pink rose printed Richard Quinn Spring 2020 RTW strapless mermaid gown which features a sweetheart neckline and a ribbon asymmetrically draped from the shoulders to the hem with words of love written in crystal beading. I saw this dress while I was actually listening to “Only Love” and immediately fell in love with the idea of Katy wearing it to perform the number. It is the glamorous side of kitschy and that is why I love it for Katy. I feel like Katy would need a boost in the height department so I picked a pair of black sequined Giuseppe Zanotti ‘Bebe’ major platform d’Orsay pumps to add that height (mostly because they would be hidden by the mermaid hem.) A sleek side parted beehive updo, smokey eyes, bold red lips, and a pair of simpler white diamond and ruby David Morris chandelier earrings would add the perfect finishing touches. Both moments would give Katy two major fashion moments this Sunday. Megan Thee Stallion has FIVE American Music Award nominations this year and she will be on hand performing at this years show. We don’t know what it is she will be performing yet, I’m hearing it’s a debut single, but I am really excited to see what she will bring to life on this red carpet. It will be her first red carpet appearance since she sat front row at the Coach fashion show back in February. I would love to see her wear the Zuhair Murad Couture gown I featured in my Billboard Music Award wish list, or the Nedo by Nedret Taciroğlu gown I picked for her to wear in my VMA’s wishes, or even the Aliette cocktail dress I put in my wishes for the BET Awards, but I had to make sure I put something new into the universe. I’ve been thinking about this fuchsia silk taffeta Christopher John Rogers ruched strapless gown which features a tulip shaped ankle length skirt, a thigh high split, and a MAJOR train for a really long time. I’ve wanted to use it for almost every red carpet, but I just haven’t felt the right vibe yet. Until now. I think that Megan would definitely rock this very 80’s glam moment on the red carpet at the American Music Awards. Styling this look with glamorous old Hollywood half up/half down retro hairstyle, thick winged eyes, deep fuchsia lips, a pair of fuchsia glitter Giuseppe Zanotti ‘Polina’ cross-strap slingback sandals, and a selection of Gismondi 1754 jewels including a pair of pink ruby and white diamond chandelier earrings and a dazzling one of a kind ‘Goddess’ white diamond teardrop collar necklace. Rounding out today’s wishes is a soft glamour moment for Taylor Swift whom is nominated for 4 AMA’s including Artist of the Year. It is also rumored that she will be performing, but as of yet this hasn’t been confirmed. With her “Folklore” era having come completely during the COVID lockdown I’m still on the pastel lightness she was drawn to during the Lover” era. Enter this soft lilac Valentino Spring 2021 RTW ruffled silk chiffon gown which features a blouson silhouette, ruffled trim, round neck, balloon sleeves, nude bodysuit, and a small train. It is a very fashion-y choice for Taylor whom has never worn Valentino before, but I feel like this gown would be a super chic moment for her to wear at the American Music Awards especially if it was styled with a romantic updo, soft silver smokey eyes, bold hot pink lips, lilac suede Gianvito Rossi ‘Portofino’ ankle strap sandals, and a pair of white diamond Anabela Chan x Diamond Foundry ‘Vine’ floral and butterfly drop earrings.

The 2020 American Music Awards will take place on Sunday November 22, 2020. Check out all of my wishes for this red carpet here.

2020 Venice Film Festival: “One Night In Miami” Photocall & Premiere Red Carpet Wish List

After the Official Selection for the 2020 Venice Film Festival was announced they added two more films Out of Competition selection for this years edition. One of those films is Regina King’s directorial debut One Night in Miami. The story follows a young Cassius Clay (before he became Muhammad Ali) as he emerges from the Miami Beach Convention Center as the new World Heavyweight Boxing Champion. Against all odds, he has defeated Sonny Liston and shocked the sports world. While crowds of people swarm Miami Beach to celebrate the match, Clay — unable to stay on the island because of Jim Crow-era segregation laws — instead spends the night at the Hampton House Motel in one of Miami’s historically black neighborhoods, celebrating with three of his closest friends: activist Malcolm X, singer Sam Cooke and football star Jim Brown. The next morning, the four men emerge determined to define a new world for themselves and their people. In a statement from the festival Regina King said, “We are pinching ourselves to have been selected to be a part of the Venice Film Festival — such a prestigious festival. Excited to announce another step in this film’s journey.” We don’t know yet if there will be a delegation headed to Venice to promote the film. I am PRAYING that we will see Regina on the Lido red carpet, but with current restrictions on US travel to Europe due to COVID-19 I just don’t know. In the effort to have a positive outlook I went on the hunt for two perfect looks for Regina to wear in Venice to promote her directorial debut. For the photocall I would definitely love to see her wearing this red, white, pink, and black lively floral motif Prada sleeveless a-line dress which features a round neckline, pleated skirt, and POCKETS. I do love this bold feminine moment and I believe that it would be gorgeous on Regina. Styling this dress with hair worn down pinned behind the ears, defined eyes, nude lips, and a pair of major black satin Prada round toe pumps with a red lightning bolt heel would definitely make this look photocall ready. Now for the premiere I went for bold goddess glamour for Regina. Since I first saw the sketch of this cerulean blue silk chiffon Ralph & Russo Fall 2020 Couture gown which features a sweetheart neckline and an asymmetrically hand pleated bodice, finished at the waist with a jeweled brooch I’ve been thinking about the perfect person to bring it from paper to red carpet. I feel like this color would be PHENOMENAL on Regina and the sexy, yet glamorous moment that this would be the perfect look for Regina to rock on the red carpet in Venice. I would definitely want to see this gown have a long and dramatic train for Regina. A sleek updo, soft smokey eyes, deep red glossy lips, a pair of aqua metallic leather Gianvito Rossi ‘Irene’ pointed toe strappy ankle tie pumps, and statement white diamond and paraiba tourmaline David Morris waterfall chandelier earrings would add the perfect finishing touches to this look. So far in my wishes for Cate Blanchett to wear on the red carpet in Venice have been pretty expected. Now I don’t expect Cate to play it safe all festival long. I want to see her take risks and give us real fashion queen moments like I know she can deliver. I am honestly shocked that Cate hasn’t given us a Richard Quinn moment on the red carpet. I feel like his avant garde yet ladylike sensibility is right in line with her sense of style. I was excited that the selection expanded because I definitely feel like this wish for Cate to wear this dramatic gown from the Richard Quinn Spring 2020 RTW collection is perfect. I adore the intricately beaded long sleeve floral pattern drop waist bodice padded hips, jewel neckline, a full silk skirt, and a bow detail. It doesn’t surprise me it hasn’t been worn since it really would need the perfect person to bring it to life. I feel like Cate on the red carpet in Venice would be the perfect platform to finally give this gown a red carpet moment it most definitely deserves. A sleek updo, defined eyes, rose pink lips, a pair of black satin Salvatore Ferragamo platform strappy peep toe sandals, and a selection of Chopard jewels including a pair of white and yellow diamond cluster teardrop pendant earrings and a statement white and yellow diamond cocktail ring from the Red Carpet Collection 2020 would definitely ensure this is the major red carpet moment I’m envisioning in my mind. I’m definitely holding out hope that Ludivine Sagnier will turn out some super dazzling moments. For today’s wish I shopped right off the rack at FarFetch for this gold chainmail disco glam Gucci long sleeve gown which features a loose column fit, rear split, and a v-neckline. Gucci is always a fixture in Venice and I definitely feel like it is a great label for Ludivine. This gown is sexy meets glam. Now I would define the waist with a black leather Gucci ‘Gucci 1955 Horsebit’ belt it would have a very Studio 54 disco glam vibe about it. A wavy bob, thick defined and soft smokey eyes, red lips, a black satin Gucci ‘Broadway’ crystal embellished clutch, a pair of black leather Gucci knotted sandals, and Pomellato jewels including ‘Sabbia’ pendant drop earrings ombré pavé set in white, brown, and black diamonds, a matching ‘Sabbia’ cocktail ring, and a ‘Nudo Maxi’ obsidian and black diamond ring would definitely finish out this look perfectly. A little birdie has told me that Spanish supermodel Nieves Alvarez will once again be on the red carpets in Venice. So of course I had to make sure that she would be included in my wishes for this years festival. I feel like she and her stylist Victor Blanco are cooking up something super chic from the likes of Etro or Alberta Ferretti like they have been, but I’ve decided to give the Bulgari ambassador two major couture moments to bring to life in Venice. I knew immediately when I heard that Nieves was attending that one wish I was going to have for her is this acid green Armani Prive Spring 2012 Couture dramatic asymmetrically ruffled neckline column gown with a beaded one shoulder detail from the brands second showing of the collection in Beijing. This isn’t a color that many could make work, but something tells me Nieves could. This statement gown with a retro inspired updo, thick defined eyes, bold red lips, a black satin Yilana Yepez ‘Grace’ crystal studded minaudiere, black suede Aquazzura ‘Deneuve’ bow detailed ankle strap sandals, and a selection of Bulgari jewels from the recently presented ‘Barocko’ collection including a pair of delicate white diamond and emerald drop earrings and a statement white diamond cuff bracelet would definitely be a major fashion moment for Nieves. I also decided that to pay tribute to a label that has brought her many red carpet success in the past during a difficult time for them that I would pick a look from Elie Saab for Nieves to wear in Venice this year. The Beirut based Elie Saab studio and headquarters, which are located two and a half miles from the devastating explosion that recently happened, had sustained heavy damage. Reconstruction is already underway and the priority is to see that two or three floors, including the atelier and Mr. Saab’s studio, would be functional after the traditional summer break ends on August 17. So to celebrate the brand I would love to see Nieves wearing this white silk crepe column gown from the Elie Saab Spring 2020 Couture collection with an intricate gold embroidered bodice and a dramatic lace cape. I is classic yet dramatic all at the same time. With a sleek updo, smokey eyes, antique rose pink lips, a silver and gold Judith Leiber Couture ‘Slim Slide Pearl Grid’ crystal and pearl embellished lattice pattern clutch, a pair of gold Aquazzura simple ankle strap metallic leather sandals, and statement Bulgari peridot, rubellite, pink sapphire, amethyst, tanzanite, and white diamond chandelier earrings I really do believe this look would be a super glamorous statement.

The 2020 Venice Film Festival will open on Wednesday September 2, 2020 and runs through Saturday September 12, 2020. You can see all my Venice Film Festival wishes here.

2020 Met Gala Red Carpet Wish List Part 30

The looks in today’s set of wishes are major. I always say the answer to picking the perfect Met Gala fashion moment is go big or go home. That is exactly what I did when picking the looks for Aja Naomi King, Naomi Scott, Lucy Liu, and Rowan Blanchard; oh and there is a super chic white tie moment for Henry Golding. Each of these looks is perfectly indicative of each label and all would be superb moments to see on this years red carpet. Aja Naomi King made her Met Gala debut in 2016, but hasn’t been on the red carpet since. Now she is a L’Oreal Paris spokesmodel and I feel like it’s about time she got her second appearance on the famed Met steps. What kills me about Aja on the red carpet is the fact that I know she has so much potential, but rarely lives up to it. For this years Met Gala red carpet I want to see Aja turn to Christopher John Rogers. I really want to see the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund winner deliver major moments on the Met steps this year. For Aja I would love to see Christopher create a custom gown that is a hybrid of two looks from the Christopher John Rogers Fall 2020 RTW collection. Taking the red lamé asymmetrical peplum cocktail dress which features a plunging neckline and layering it over the black and silver crystal embellished column skirt from the strapless column gown. Each look on their own isn’t right for the Met Gala red carpet, but combined I know this look would be superb. A chignon afro puff updo, smokey eyes with a hint of emerald, dark rose pink lips, a pair of black Stuart Weitzman ‘Nudistsong Stardust’ crystal embellished ankle strap sandals, and statement Amrapali emerald and white diamond teardrop pendant earrings would definitely make this a major moment for Aja to wear on the Met Gala red carpet. Henry Golding was introduced to us about 2 year ago now when he stared in the hit film Crazy Rich Asians back to back with the Blake Lively/Anna Kendrick drama A Simple Favor. He made his Met Gala red carpet debut last year taking a risk in custom Atelier Versace. It was a risk that almost paid off. I appreciate that Henry is willing to take some risks with fashion, but for this years Met Gala I decided I wanted to see him bring perfect classic glamour to this red carpet. This classic cut white tie Ralph Lauren Fall 2020 Menswear tailcoat tuxedo is the epitome of timeless elegance for menswear and when fitted perfectly the looks are one to take notice of. I definitely believe that Ralph would make sure this look is perfectly tailored for Henry. Now I would just add a pair of black Christian Louboutin ‘Greggo Orlatio’ paillette sequin embellished oxfords to add a subtle hint of dazzle to this look. Over the years Lucy Liu has only walked 2 Met Gala red carpets. That honestly surprises me as she is quite the fashionista. While we don’t see Lucy on the red carpets often when she does the looks are always top notch. In fact she has one of my favorite Met Gala red carpet moments ever thanks to the purple ruffled Zac Posen gown she wore in 2007. I would love to see her attend this year as a guest of Christian Siriano. Lucy wore Siriano for the Tony Awards last year and was seated front row at his Spring 2020 RTW show last September. Never one to shy away from drama for the red carpet I thought Lucy would be the perfect person to wear this crocodile skin pattern embroidered velvet ensemble from the Christian Siriano Fall 2020 RTW collection which includes a structured high neck capelet and a strapless corseted ball gown. The look is distinctly Siriano and a modern, edgy twist on the classic ballgown. It really do think that while Lucy is quite petite that she has the presence to make this look come to life on the red carpet. While the matching hat is quite interesting for the runway I would have Lucy ditch it for the red carpet instead opting to style the gown with a sleek side parted updo, thick defined eyes, bold red lips, black glitter Christian Louboutin ‘Renee’ strappy leather sandals, and a pair of statement David Webb ‘Asheville’ earclips made in cabochon turquoise, brilliant-cut diamonds, 18K gold, and platinum. This would definitely make for a statement making moment for Lucy to wear for her Met Gala return. Naomi Scott made her Met Gala debut last year ahead of her major promo tour for Aladdin. She wore a cool Burberry crystal chain and feather embellished tunic and sleek tailored pants. It was definitely one of the cooler looks of the evening, but when there were so many major gowns it faded into the masses. I don’t want that to happen to her this year. So I turned to the illustrious Richard Quinn, who is known for making dramatic moments happen. He dressed Naomi in black latex and blue floral jacquard for the Charlies Angels premiere in London last fall and for this years Met Gala I went back to his Spring 2019 RTW collection to seek inspiration for the perfect gown for Naomi to wear. I would love to see Naomi give us modern flapper vibes wearing a custom gown inspired by this ice blue silk cocktail dress which features silver beaded embroidery and black feather embellishments. Now picture it with me. Taking this dress and lengthening it to hit the floor with the feather embellishments on silk strips made to add a dramatic train to this gown would definitely make sure that Naomi delivers the drama on the red carpet. I would love to see Naomi take this custom gown and go full flapper with it styling the gown with a fingerwave updo, defined eyes, pink lips, a pair of black Nicholas Kirkwood ‘Monstera’ crystal embellished leaf sandals, and vintage 1930’s white diamond Bulgari art deco chandelier earrings. Rowan Blanchard has now hit the 18 year age requirement to attend the Met Gala. I have wanted to see the actress own this red carpet for a while. She isn’t afraid to take sartorial risks and I know that she would own this red carpet. I have been imagining her wearing this Schiaparelli Spring 2020 Couture ‘Grand Flou’ ball gown which features a multicolored “bathing suit” bustier, thin halter straps, and a huge shocking pink skirt in silk faille since it first came down the runway back in January. This gown can only work on a couple of red carpets and the Met Gala is one of those few red carpets where this look would work. While it isn’t really a “timeless” gown by any stretch of the imagination it does speak perfectly to the codes of the House of Schiaparelli. Finishing this look with a sleek retro inspired updo, defined eyes, pink lips, a pair of metallic pink Gucci chunky peep toe platform sandals, and white diamond Hueb ‘Luminus’ starburst cluster earrings would definitely make this a major Met Gala debut moment for Rowan.

2020 Met Gala Red Carpet Wish List Part 22

From Lady Gaga’s four wardrobe changes last year to Rihanna’s internet-breaking yellow Guo Pei cape gown in 2015, the Met Gala has long been the most anticipated red carpet event of the year with the biggest names in music, film, fashion and entertainment going all out with their costumes to match the annual ball’s theme. This year the Met Gala theme is  “About Time: Fashion and Duration.” The event will mark the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s 150th anniversary and will be partly inspired by Virginia Woolf and the theories of the early-20th-century French philosopher Henri Bergson. How this years theme will be interpreted is yet to be seen. Will stars go timeless or will there be a lot of gowns that look like clocks? I guess only time will tell. Billy Porter showed up on last years Met Gala red carpet as the sun god carried in The Blonds on a litter carried by six shirtless men. He then showed off his wings as he twirled up the steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art. I expected Billy to bring the drama to last years red carpet as he does help define what “Camp” style is. I definitely want to see Billy rock this years Met Gala red carpet as well. I feel like Billy will of course still be delivering a superb fashion moment. Billy has been front row at Richard Quinn shows for the last two seasons and when I was thinking of the perfect person to wear this black and silver crystal embellished houndstooth pattern suit which features a fitted jacket and a bell bottom pants from the Richard Quinn Fall 2020 RTW collection it just clicked that it should be Billy. He would definitely bring this look to life styling it with a black or white button down shirt, hist favorite pair of black Rick Owens ‘KISS’ platform chunky heel boots, and a black lace print Stephen Jones Millinery ‘Derby’ with a net veil. This years Met Gala can serve as the celebration for the Met’s 150th anniversary and the farewell party for Jean Paul Gaultier. Earlier this year, on the date of his couture show in Paris the designer announced it would be his last show. With the future of the house still up in the air I would love to see Gaultier aplenty on this red carpet. In fact I’ve picked 3 looks from the designer for this years Met Gala red carpet. Two from his final collection and one from an archive collection. I’ve picked this black tulle high low gown which features intricate beading and plumage on one shoulder for FKA Twigs. The singer has loved herself some Jean Paul Gaultier on the red carpet, mostly vintage. I think that she would make sure this look is rock and roll glamour defined and I think she would definitely be able to really sell this look to me especially if styled with a sleek yet edgy updo, defined eyes, red lips, a pair of black crystal embellished Rene Caovilla ‘Galaxia’ mesh calf high peep toe boots, and MAJOR Yeprem jewels including a statementChevalier’ white diamond ear cuff, and a matching ‘Chevalier’ white diamond hand ring (worn on opposite sides.) Penelope Cruz has only walked the Met Gala red carpet twice. The black and white vintage Chanel Couture gown that she wore last year would easily fit in perfectly on this years red carpet. I decided once again to dive into the Chanel archives for the perfect gown for Penelope to wear on this years red carpet. The Chanel Fall 2009 Couture collection is one of my favorite Chanel collections ever. There have been several major red carpet moments to come out of that collection, but this black strapless gown which features a velvet crystal and ruffle detailed peplum bodice, a sequined tulle column underskirt, and a beaded tulle overskirt has never been worn. It perplexes me. This gown is super glamorous and I would love to see Penelope pull this gown out of the archive and finally give it the red carpet moment it deserves. The gown definitely fits the theme of this years gala perfectly. Now it might be a long shot since it is officially part of the history of Chanel, but I would love to see a dramatic layered tulle train added to this look tacked under the peplum of the gown. Old Hollywood waves, smokey eyes, bold red lips, a black lambskin and black metal chain Chanel quilted clutch, a pair of black Gianvito Rossi ‘Portofino’ clear PVC strap sandals, and a statement white diamond Chopard Red Carpet Collection ‘Superb’ collar necklace would definitely bring this look to life and give this gown the red carpet both it and Penelope deserve. I spent a lot of time in the process of pulling these wishes together going through as many couture archives from the 70’s, 80’s, 90’s, and early 2000’s as possible. So sprinkled throughout my wishes you are going to find some amazing vintage couture runway moments I would love to see on the red carpet. The Versace archive gave me a lot of inspiration. I’ve picked several moments from the label over the years for the Met Gala red carpet. So I spent DAYS trying to figure out who should be the person to pull this silver pleated and draped lame Atelier Versace Spring 1994 Couture ball gown which features a plunging neckline. The gown is the perfect balance of sexy and princess. Finally I thought of Stella Maxwell wearing this gown on the Met steps and knew that it was the perfect match. She oozes sexy sophistication and I think that is exactly what is needed to bring this look to life on the Met Gala red carpet. A loose curly updo, smokey eyes, soft nude lips, a pair of silver glitter Christian Louboutin ‘Cathy’ peep toe platform d’orsay ankle strap pumps, and dazzling white diamond de Grisogono fabric drape inspired drop earrings would ensure that Stella oozes sexy glamour on the Met Gala red carpet. I also dove into designer archives for Zoe Kravitz. Originally I had picked a red latex moment from the Saint Laurent Fall 2020 RTW collection for the Saint Laurent spokesmodel, but then I was scrolling through Instagram when I saw a YSL look from when YSL actually designed YSL. It inspired me to dive into the Yves St Laurent archive for Zoe. As it happens Zoe actually wore a vintage YSL look last year at the Met Gala. It was chic, but nothing in comparison to this bold red strapless Yves Saint Laurent Spring 1996 Couture gown which features a feathered peplum and a column skirt it is nothing. This gown gives me LIFE. It screams glamour and I believe that Zoe would be able to bring this gown to life like few others could. I would love to see Zoe style this look with a chic pixie, winged eyes, soft nude lips, a pair of red leather Saint Laurent ‘Kiki’ pointed toe pumps, and dazzling Lorraine Schwartz jewels including a pair of pink sapphire and ruby drop earrings and a statement orange sapphire and pink sapphire cocktail ring to really ensure that this couture gown gets the red carpet moment it deserves.

2020 Met Gala Red Carpet Wish List Part 12

We are still waiting to hear of a date for when the 2020 Met Gala will be rescheduled for. With so many events being cancelled this could very well be one of the first major cultural events following the Coronavirus Crisis in New York City. The theme “About Time: Fashion and Duration” as explained by Max Hollein, director of the Met, said the exhibition will “consider the ephemeral nature of fashion, employing flashbacks and fast-forwards to reveal how it can be both linear and cyclical”. I know two of the 150 looks that are being featured in the exhibition. One being a black latex Iris Van Herpen Couture dress that was actually worn by Solange Knowles to the 2018 Met Gala and the other being a white satin Charles James ballgown. I think that these two looks perfectly describe the wide range of looks that we might expect to see on this years red carpet. Ana de Armas could make her Met Gala debut this year. With a Golden Globe Award nomination under her belt and the fact that she will star in the new Bond film No Time To Die which is now set to be released this fall I definitely think that Ana will get her first invitation to walk the Met steps. Now I knew I wanted to make sure Ana was included in my Met Gala wishes, but I needed to make sure a gown spoke her name to me. When I was looking at the Valentino options (and there were plenty) I saw this strapless tea length gown which features a black bustier bodice, dramatic ruffled skirt, and a red silk bow detailed waist I knew I had found the perfect gown for Ana to bring to life on the red carpet. This look is definitely a statement and I know that Anna has the presence to not let the drama of this dress wear her. I think taking this gown and styling it with a sleek updo, defined eyes, red lips, a pair of red Jimmy Choo ‘Thyra’ crystal embellished sandals, and a statement white diamond Tiffany & Co. link style collar necklace with a dramatic clasp would definitely make this look a superb moment for Ana to wear on her Met Gala debut. I have picked a couple of couples looks in my Met Gala wishes. One of those couples is Gabrielle Union & Dwayne Wade. I was looking for the perfect couple to wear this black and gold hand beaded leopard print matching ensemble from the Versace Pre-Fall 2020 collection and when I thought of Gabrielle and Dwayne I knew I had found the perfect match for this ensemble. I think that having Donatella modify the strapless peak v detailed bustier mini dress into a floor length column gown with a dramatic black chiffon train to really make this look scream sexy, dramatic glamour for Gabrielle especially if styled with a sleek bun updo, smokey eyes, dark red glossy lips, a pair of gold metallic leather Giuseppe Zanotti ‘Polina’ strappy sandals, and a statement Nikos Koulis ‘Feelings’ collection yellow gold collar necklace with white diamonds and black enamel. The matching tuxedo jacket on Dwayne with a black tuxedo shirt worn ever so slightly unbuttoned, the slim fit tuxedo pants, and a pair of black patent leather Giuseppe Zanotti ‘Patrick’ satin band loafers worn without socks would definitely make this couple one of the best of the night. Jharrel Jerome was definitely one of the men to watch this awards season. My favorite moment of his came from a Louis Vuitton ensemble he wore for the 2020 Critics Choice Awards. It was definitely not the gussied up formal moment one would expect to see on the red carpet at a major awards show. So when I was looking for the perfect person to wear this black velvet Louis Vuitton Pre-Fall 2020 Menswear shawl collar one button tuxedo on the Met Gala red carpet I thought that Jharrel would be the perfect person. The look is super classic on paper, but the lookbook styling which included a white tuxedo shirt worn without tie and a pair of white Louis Vuitton ‘Run Away Pulse’ sneakers make it very modern. I would usually turn my nose at the idea of wearing sneakers with a tuxedo, but there was something about the way it looked in the lookbook that softened me to the idea. I definitely think this look would fit the theme of this years Met Gala perfectly and this would be one of the great menswear moments of the night. I mentioned the other day that I spent a lot of time delving into the archives of many brands to find some major moment for stars to wear on the red carpet at the Met Gala this year. Chanel was one whom I spent several hours searching for archive runway moments. I really began an obsession with vintage Chanel runways earlier this year when I was looking for gowns for Margot Robbie to wear during awards season. So I had a couple of looks already in my mind. But as I was searching I found this black and white structured asymmetrical sequined cocktail dress from the Chanel Fall 1991 Couture collection and I said WOW. This looks like something we could have seen coming down a recent runway and it was almost immediately that I imagined seeing Marion Cotillard bring this look to life on the red carpet. I haven’t picked many cocktail moments for this years Met Gala red carpet, but I would definitely imagine Marion would be able to really sell this look to me with the right styling. I think a sleek updo, defined eyes, red lips, black Christian Louboutin ‘Maia Labella’ crystal embellished mesh strappy pumps, and a selection of Chanel Fine Jewelry including a pair of white diamond and black enamel ‘Tweed Graphique’ drop earrings and a matching white diamond ‘Tweed Erode’ ring would ensure this look screams classic glamour with a sexy twist. Today’s last wish is definitely one of my favorites out of all 185 looks I’ve picked out for this years Met Gala. Richard Quinn is definitely one of the brightest fashion minds of our time. His shows are one of the ones I most look forward to seeing on the runway during fashion month and I am really hoping to see him have at least one major moment on the Met Gala red carpet this year. I adored this black and white polka dot and light pink rose pattern Richard Quinn Fall 2020 RTW wiggle taffeta trumpet gown which features a strapless sweetheart bustier bodice and a sweeping train the moment I saw it on the runway and the thought of Thandie Newton bringing the gown to life on the Met Gala red carpet is almost too much glamour for me to handle. Thandie knows how to sell more avant garde moments on the red carpet with ease and I feel like this look would be super easy for her to sell to me. Just add a sleek braided bun updo, defined eyes, soft antique rose pink lips, a pair of black holographic oil slick Gianvito Rossi ‘Manhattan’ strappy sandals, and a statement Tiffany & Co. Schlumberger “Flowers and Bars” necklace in 18k yellow gold and platinum with round brilliant diamonds and cultured pearls would add the perfect finishing touches to this absolutely major fashion moment.

London Fashion Week Fall 2020 RTW Red Carpet Wish List

Well fashion month is officially over, so I guess it is time to recap with some of my favorite looks from the collections. Today I wishes for 64 looks that walked the runways during London Fashion Week. We didn’t see quite as many potential red carpet moments, or anywhere near as many shows, during London Fashion Week that we did from New York, but the looks definitely have me super excited to see what the next several months are going to bring. There are looks in this wish list perfect for galas, movie premieres, press events, music award shows, the Met Gala, the Cannes Film Festival and beyond. I went through these collections to share looks for friends of the brands as well as people who immediately shot mind when I saw the looks walk the runway.

2020 Oscar Parties Red Carpet Wish List Part 2

Oscar night is always one of the most glamorous nights of the year. We can see upwards of 200+ looks on the red carpets of Oscar night. Despite the fact that last year I did not actually post a Best Dressed of the Year list an Oscar party look has never made the final cut for a BDOTY List. We have seen some superb moments on the red carpets at Oscar parties. I am specifically remembering Rosie Huntington-Whiteley in a mint green Ralph & Russo Couture at the 2018 Vanity Fair Party. That look was in my final round of cuts for my 2018 Best Dressed of the Year list, though that was a really tough year to make the list. I hope that with some of the people who I am rumored to hear are making an Oscar night appearance will deliver some major moments as I was super underwhelmed with last year. In all of today’s wishes I am featuring some of the looks that are hot off the Paris Haute Couture runways, Pre-Fall 2020 looks I am dying to see on the red carpet, as well as looks from Spring 2020 RTW I don’t want to see lost to the archive, as well as couture archive moments I am still waiting to see on the red carpet. Honestly if just a 1/3 of these could come true then this could be one of the best Oscar nights ever.

Oscar Night 2020 is Sunday February 9, 2020.

2020 Grammy Awards Red Carpet Wish List Part 2

With the Grammy’s coming this weekend on the heels of the post outlining the looks I would love to see Alicia Keys bring to life on the red carpet and stage I had to follow it up with a second wish today for some of the many stars we are expecting to see on this red carpet. I believe that this red carpet will deliver the most dramatic looks we have seen yet and a wide variety of styles overall. Each of the looks below definitely fits each persons style and elevates it to a level I totally believe would make for a major Grammy’s red carpet moment. From nominees to performers I am all about these looks.

The 2020 Grammy Awards will take place on Sunday January 26, 2020.

2020 Screen Actors Guild Awards Red Carpet Wish List Part 4

The 2020 Screen Actors Guild Awards will take place THIS SUNDAY! I want to start off this list by thanking all of my readers. I know I stepped back in the last quarter of 2019 and didn’t really give you all the coverage you are used to, but you all have helped turn this January into the most traffic If I Was A Stylist has ever seen in a single month! I am blown away. With the accelerated awards season I just haven’t been able to deliver the same detailed wishes I know you are used to, but it hasn’t stopped you from coming back and checking out the looks I do want to see brought to life on Hollywood red carpets and beyond. For that I am so very thankful! Now on to my 4th set of wishes for the 2020 SAG Awards. Of the ladies, and one gentleman, in today’s wishes you are going to find a lot of chic and sophisticated moments. The red carpet at the SAG Awards is typically a little more laid back, a little more bohemian, than what we see at events like the Golden Globes or the Oscars. That being said I had mentally reserved several of the looks that stars wore on the Globes red carpet earlier this month for the SAG’s and was disappointed that there were some looks I loved on the runway or in the lookbook that I won’t get a chance to feature on here. Well with the spirit of the SAG’s I honestly have found it super easy to shop for just about everyone whom I have featured here. I think that each look seen below really speaks to the person whom I want to see wearing it’s style but also fits the vibe I have come to know from the SAG Awards perfectly.

The 2020 Screen Actors Guild Awards will take place on Sunday January 19, 2020.

2019 British Fashion Awards Red Carpet Wish List Part 1

The 2019 British Fashion Awards are coming. This red carpet is always a highlight of December and this year it kicks off the month on the first Monday. The event will be hosted this year by Tracee Ellis Ross. The comedienne is a fashionista in her own right. She has given us many mahjor fashON moments this year and I am praying to the British fashion gods that she and stylist Karla Welch once again deliver magic at the 2019 British Fashion Awards. Now this is not Tracee’s first hosting gig. She was the host of the 2018 American Music Awards and that definitely sets my expectations for her wardrobe at the 2019 British Fashion Awards super high. I’ve picked several looks for Tracee to wear over the course of the evening at the 2019 British Fashion Awards. Though like recent hostess wishes I have decided that I would try a new format instead of breaking down each of the nine looks I want to see Tracee bring to life. Instead I will break down the full styling of the gown I want to see her wear on the red carpet, and then below are the eight looks I want to see Tracee wear on the stage while hosting the 2019 British Fashion Awards. Below are major British labels like Alexander McQueen, Ralph & Russo, and Stella McCartney, British Fashion Award nominees Simone Rocha, Christopher Kane, Richard Kane, and JW Anderson, and I threw in a real statement gown from Balenciaga for good measure. But before you look through all of those I have a statement moment for Tracee to deliver on the red carpet with this multi tone blue Mary Katrantzou Spring 2020 RTW feathered ball gown which features an off the shoulder portrait neckline. I still don’t understand the nominating committee for the British Fashion Awards. This is the second year in a row that I feel like they have robbed Mary Katrantzou of a fashion award nomination. I am just glad that the lack of recognition doesn’t seem to slow Mary down. She had the most major year of her career and I am dying to see pretty much every look from this collection on the red carpet. I feel like this blue gown is perfect for Tracee as it brings drama to the red carpet and that is exactly what I am expecting to see from Tracee as she walks this red carpet. A fantastic curly updo, defined eyes, dark red lips, a royal blue Judith Leiber Couture crocodile faceted box clutch with a jeweled clasp, ombre blue Nicholas Kirkwood ‘Mia’ patent leather slingback pumps with a pearl detail heel, and a selection of dazzling David Morris Jeweler jewels including a statement sapphire, white and pink diamond collar necklace and matching drop earrings would definitely ensure that Tracee is ready to kick off her hosting gig in high style. Now don’t forget to see the rest of the looks I want to see Tracee bring to life at the 2019 British Fashion Awards below.
