The looks in today’s set of wishes are major. I always say the answer to picking the perfect Met Gala fashion moment is go big or go home. That is exactly what I did when picking the looks for Aja Naomi King, Naomi Scott, Lucy Liu, and Rowan Blanchard; oh and there is a super chic white tie moment for Henry Golding. Each of these looks is perfectly indicative of each label and all would be superb moments to see on this years red carpet. Aja Naomi King made her Met Gala debut in 2016, but hasn’t been on the red carpet since. Now she is a L’Oreal Paris spokesmodel and I feel like it’s about time she got her second appearance on the famed Met steps. What kills me about Aja on the red carpet is the fact that I know she has so much potential, but rarely lives up to it. For this years Met Gala red carpet I want to see Aja turn to Christopher John Rogers. I really want to see the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund winner deliver major moments on the Met steps this year. For Aja I would love to see Christopher create a custom gown that is a hybrid of two looks from the Christopher John Rogers Fall 2020 RTW collection. Taking the red lamé asymmetrical peplum cocktail dress which features a plunging neckline and layering it over the black and silver crystal embellished column skirt from the strapless column gown. Each look on their own isn’t right for the Met Gala red carpet, but combined I know this look would be superb. A chignon afro puff updo, smokey eyes with a hint of emerald, dark rose pink lips, a pair of black Stuart Weitzman ‘Nudistsong Stardust’ crystal embellished ankle strap sandals, and statement Amrapali emerald and white diamond teardrop pendant earrings would definitely make this a major moment for Aja to wear on the Met Gala red carpet. Henry Golding was introduced to us about 2 year ago now when he stared in the hit film Crazy Rich Asians back to back with the Blake Lively/Anna Kendrick drama A Simple Favor. He made his Met Gala red carpet debut last year taking a risk in custom Atelier Versace. It was a risk that almost paid off. I appreciate that Henry is willing to take some risks with fashion, but for this years Met Gala I decided I wanted to see him bring perfect classic glamour to this red carpet. This classic cut white tie Ralph Lauren Fall 2020 Menswear tailcoat tuxedo is the epitome of timeless elegance for menswear and when fitted perfectly the looks are one to take notice of. I definitely believe that Ralph would make sure this look is perfectly tailored for Henry. Now I would just add a pair of black Christian Louboutin ‘Greggo Orlatio’ paillette sequin embellished oxfords to add a subtle hint of dazzle to this look. Over the years Lucy Liu has only walked 2 Met Gala red carpets. That honestly surprises me as she is quite the fashionista. While we don’t see Lucy on the red carpets often when she does the looks are always top notch. In fact she has one of my favorite Met Gala red carpet moments ever thanks to the purple ruffled Zac Posen gown she wore in 2007. I would love to see her attend this year as a guest of Christian Siriano. Lucy wore Siriano for the Tony Awards last year and was seated front row at his Spring 2020 RTW show last September. Never one to shy away from drama for the red carpet I thought Lucy would be the perfect person to wear this crocodile skin pattern embroidered velvet ensemble from the Christian Siriano Fall 2020 RTW collection which includes a structured high neck capelet and a strapless corseted ball gown. The look is distinctly Siriano and a modern, edgy twist on the classic ballgown. It really do think that while Lucy is quite petite that she has the presence to make this look come to life on the red carpet. While the matching hat is quite interesting for the runway I would have Lucy ditch it for the red carpet instead opting to style the gown with a sleek side parted updo, thick defined eyes, bold red lips, black glitter Christian Louboutin ‘Renee’ strappy leather sandals, and a pair of statement David Webb ‘Asheville’ earclips made in cabochon turquoise, brilliant-cut diamonds, 18K gold, and platinum. This would definitely make for a statement making moment for Lucy to wear for her Met Gala return. Naomi Scott made her Met Gala debut last year ahead of her major promo tour for Aladdin. She wore a cool Burberry crystal chain and feather embellished tunic and sleek tailored pants. It was definitely one of the cooler looks of the evening, but when there were so many major gowns it faded into the masses. I don’t want that to happen to her this year. So I turned to the illustrious Richard Quinn, who is known for making dramatic moments happen. He dressed Naomi in black latex and blue floral jacquard for the Charlies Angels premiere in London last fall and for this years Met Gala I went back to his Spring 2019 RTW collection to seek inspiration for the perfect gown for Naomi to wear. I would love to see Naomi give us modern flapper vibes wearing a custom gown inspired by this ice blue silk cocktail dress which features silver beaded embroidery and black feather embellishments. Now picture it with me. Taking this dress and lengthening it to hit the floor with the feather embellishments on silk strips made to add a dramatic train to this gown would definitely make sure that Naomi delivers the drama on the red carpet. I would love to see Naomi take this custom gown and go full flapper with it styling the gown with a fingerwave updo, defined eyes, pink lips, a pair of black Nicholas Kirkwood ‘Monstera’ crystal embellished leaf sandals, and vintage 1930’s white diamond Bulgari art deco chandelier earrings. Rowan Blanchard has now hit the 18 year age requirement to attend the Met Gala. I have wanted to see the actress own this red carpet for a while. She isn’t afraid to take sartorial risks and I know that she would own this red carpet. I have been imagining her wearing this Schiaparelli Spring 2020 Couture ‘Grand Flou’ ball gown which features a multicolored “bathing suit” bustier, thin halter straps, and a huge shocking pink skirt in silk faille since it first came down the runway back in January. This gown can only work on a couple of red carpets and the Met Gala is one of those few red carpets where this look would work. While it isn’t really a “timeless” gown by any stretch of the imagination it does speak perfectly to the codes of the House of Schiaparelli. Finishing this look with a sleek retro inspired updo, defined eyes, pink lips, a pair of metallic pink Gucci chunky peep toe platform sandals, and white diamond Hueb ‘Luminus’ starburst cluster earrings would definitely make this a major Met Gala debut moment for Rowan.
Today I close out my Oscar parties wishes. The only thing that stands between you and my wishes for the actual Oscars ceremony red carpet now are my wishes for the Film Independent Spirit Awards which will be posted tomorrow. We are now less than a week to Oscar night. Unfortunately I will be on a work trip and unable to engage in the red carpet as much as I want to this year, but I am hoping that while I am working a trade show that stars are delivering superb Best Dressed of the Year worthy moments on the red carpet. I haven’t seen any yet this awards season, but I am holding out hope after the BAFTA red carpet last night shunned the “re-wear” and “sustainable” plea from the organization and delivered some of the best red carpet looks of the season. I am praying that this will continue through the week and end with a slew of knockout moments on Oscar night. I have high expectations, but trying to manage them so I can be blown away. Some of the wishes below are exactly that wishful thinking, but some of these (even the more realistic ones) could be a personal best for the ladies walking Oscar night red carpets.
Oscar Night 2020 is Sunday February 9, 2020.
I started off Paris Haute Couture Spring 2020 Fashion Week with the intention of having a post the next morning of the favorite looks I had seen the day before with who I most want to see wearing those looks. Well life got in the way. Tuesday night I saw Celine Dion and slept as long as I could before heading to work the next day. Wednesday I had to take my mother to a doctors appointment first thing in the morning and lost my little bit of weekday morning blog time. So by then I just decided well day one is already up, but I will just do a round up including all the shows with 1-4 looks from each show being featured in one big round up list. So that is what I did. As I was putting this list together I realized that this is basically a precursor to my 2020 Cannes Film Festival wishes with major looks for L’Orealistas like Sonam Kapoor, Eva Longoria, Araya A. Hargate, Aishwarya Rai, Helen Mirren, and more to bring to life on the red carpet. It can also be a prediction for you all as it comes to what my Oscar party wishes may look like. Overall this season was very good. Aside from my now perennial favorites Givenchy and Valentino there wasn’t really much of a stand out as far as an entire collection, save maybe Armani Prive, but there were a ton of really amazing moments that are just waiting to be seen on a red carpet. I hope you are ready to see more of these looks, see some of these wishes below detailed out, and more on the race to the Oscars, Met Gala, and the Cannes Film Festival. I honestly do not know which wish here is my favorite; what’s yours?
The couture shows kicked off in Paris yesterday and I was awake at 4am Eastern Standard Time to watch the first show of the week: Schiaparelli. I was enamored with the show and honestly not as impressed with the looks from the rest of the day. There are definitely stand out looks from each of the shows, but overall not a single collection delivered amazing moments from beginning to end. I am hoping that we will see that change as the final two days go by, but I have learned to manage my expectations as I went into this week expecting the best collections ever presented.
I have talked a lot so far about what camp is when it comes strictly in regards to fashion, but we I definitely make an argument that the Met Gala in itself is a perfect example of what Camp is. As Susan Sontag defined it Camp is artifact, extravagant, and unnatural. The Met Gala is this big high glam event, whose air while still being high society has a whole element of fun and exaggeration infused into it. It’s an event where just about anything goes fashion wise, the lobby of the Metropolitan Museum of Art is adorned with a floral sculpture that is larger than life, and brings together people from all different worlds of thought under one roof for one night. That is why I love the Met Gala. It is honestly one of my favorite nights of fashion of the year because of the wide array of people whom Anna Wintour invites to laud the newest exhibit in the Costume Institute. The fashion is pretty much anything goes, but make it glamorous. Amandla Stenberg had the biggest years thus far in her career last year. She starred in several films that earned her high praise and expanded her fashion embrace thanks to working with Hollywood’s power stylist Karla Welch. This would not be Amandla’s first Met Gala though. She was first invited as a guest of Calvin Klein in 2016. I was originally thinking of putting Amandla in the Valentino or Gucci crews for this years Met Gala thinking I wasn’t going to do a whole lot of Dior this year. But when I thought of her wearing this black, white, and red striped Christian Dior Spring 2019 Couture mini dress which features pleats on pleats on pleats I thought it would be a really fun look that definitely embraced the theme. While if I had done Valentino or Gucci I definitely would have put Amandla in a dramatic gown I think that this short cocktail dress definitely hits all of the things Amandla loves on a red carpet. It is fun and edgy and I definitely think that she is one of the very few people who I would actually like to see wearing this dress on a red carpet. A whimsical braided updo, smokey eyes, nude lips, a statement Judith Leiber Couture ‘Carousel Jane’s’ crystal encrusted minaudiere, a pair of gold Christian Louboutin ‘Ruban’ peep toe PVC platform pumps, and vintage diamond floral cluster earrings from Beladora would definitely give this look the Cirque du Freak vibe I think that the dress deserves, but in an uber high fashion manner.Something I love about creating Met Gala wishes is that a lot of times I don’t start with a person and say what is the perfect dress for them. In fact with Met Gala wishes it is one of the few carpets I can start with saying that there is a major Met moment waiting to happen; now who do I pick to bring it to life. That was watching the Erdem Fall 2019 RTW show and I saw this pink, black, and turquoise halter dress which features a knee length feather and sequin embellished shift dress attached with a satin train. I knew that this would be a major Met Gala option and so I started racking my brain to come up with the perfect person to wear it on the red carpet. Claire Foy was one of the first people whom I thought of. She is a good friend to the house and has actually been the guest of the brand at the Met Gala before. I did waver back and forth on whether or not Claire has the height to make a dress like this work on the red carpet, but I think if Erdem tailored it to the perfect proportions that it would most definitely work. I went back and forth on whether or not the matching floral print satin pointed toe pumps from the runway would cut off Claire’s leg making her appear shorter than she is. I thought it may so I decided to instead pair this dress with metallic hot pink Malone Souliers ‘Darlene’ sandals to lengthen the appearance of the leg. A finger wave updo, defined eyes, soft bubble gum pink lips, and Deville Fine Jewelry rubellite, morganite, and diamond butterfly drop earrings would all make this look one of Claire more avant garde moments yet. Since Gucci is sponsoring this years Met Gala I am expecting a whole host of the brands gang on the red carpet. The brand always has a pretty large crew of stars on the red carpet with creative director Alessandro Michele and Dakota Johnson is usually one of them. While I tend to like about 3 in every 5 Gucci gowns on the red carpet (and the expectation that there will be at least 5 probably more) I am praying that all of the custom creations that the brand does for this red carpet are on point. I went through recent collections, past red carpet looks, stuff from online store, and vintage embroideries to piecemeal some amazing gowns together with the help of my fabulous friend and photo editor Evita of For The Love Of Red Carpet Fashion. For Dakota I went with a more simple and relaxed silhouette in a bold color with this sleeveless drop waist gown which features intricate beading, plunging neckline, gold beading on the waist, and a dramatic train. I took the teal beaded sash from the Gucci Fall 2019 RTW collection, a Gucci gown worn by Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, and a vintage beaded applique on the waist to create this gown and it just made a major moment that I definitely thought would be perfect for Dakota to rock on this red carpet. I could have gone down the ruffles and sequin rabbit hole that I am sure some of Alessandro’s designs will be, but when it comes to Dakota I tend to believe that the simpler the silhouette the better. Finish this gown with soft waves, soft smokey eyes, rose pink lips, a pair of gold Gucci metallic leather strappy sandals, and statement vintage Boucheron gold set diamond ribbon drop earrings and I know that Dakota would make this look an absolutely major moment on the Met Gala red carpet. Jennifer Lopez has never worn anything on the Met Gala red carpet in the past that I haven’t liked and as a member of this years host committee I am expecting another really major moment from her on this red carpet. I decided that after what I saw as a red carpet fail in Tom Ford at the Oscars earlier this year I decided that I am going to give her another shot to wow me in the brand at this years Met Gala. Tom Ford is known for only dressing one star for the Met Gala and I definitely think that Jennifer would be a perfect person for the designer to dress for this years red carpet. I wasn’t totally thrilled with the options from the Tom Ford Fall 2019 RTW collection as a jumping point for a Met Gala gown, but I did steal the crystal embellished chain straps from that collection for my custom gown for Jennifer to bring to life. Add the acid colored patchwork print sequined bodice and hips that came from the Fall 2018 RTW collection and an ombre feathered skirt and train and I definitely think that Jennifer would redeem herself in Tom Ford, especially if paired with a pink Tom Ford Fall 2019 ‘Pussy Power’ crystal embellished clutch, a pair of silver block platform Tom Ford Fall 2019 crystal encrusted peep toe pumps, a sleek high bump, smokey eyes, nude glossy lips, and De Grisogono jewels including black diamond, emerald, and rubellite teardrop earrings and a statement rubellite, emerald, and diamond bracelet. Kacey Musgraves has really made some waves when it comes to fashion this year. Typically country music stars aren’t really embraced by big fashion brands, but Kacey has been rocking looks from couture brands like Versace, Valentino, Giambattista Valli, and Armani on red carpets. She is hot and knows how to sell a look so it doesn’t surprise me that Kacey is quickly becoming a fashionista. She hasn’t been invited to a Met Gala before, but something tells me that following her Album of the Year win at the Grammy Awards and presenting at the Oscars that we will see her on the Met Gala red carpet. So I would love to see Kacey bring some bold, flirty feminine, and sexy glamour to this red carpet wearing this lavender and pink hand painted baroque print Atelier Versace Fall 2018 Couture strapless ballgown which features gold chainmail detail and a mini skirt layered under that full organza ball skirt. This gown might technically be ‘last season,’ but I definitely think that it was made for this red carpet and I believe that Kacey is the perfect person to sell it to me. I would style it with a sleek high bun updo, gold smokey eyes, blush pink lips, a pair of light gold Christian Louboutin ‘Choca’ leather and glitter buckled sandals, and some statement Anabela Chan ‘Stardust Tassel’ blue quartz and diamond drop earrings would definitely ensure that Kacey shuts down her very first Met Gala red carpet Rowan Blanchard gave an early camp moment on the red carpet at the Vanity Fair Oscar Party earlier this year rocking a frothy floral embroidered Rodarte gown. She is definitely one of the major risk takers of fashion and I am really praying that she gets her first Met Gala moment this year. I decided to go with a bigger version of that gown for Rowan to rock on this red carpet via this electric blue Rodarte Fall 2019 RTW ruffled ballgown which to me just epitomizes ‘Camp’ style. Rodarte didn’t livestream their show this season, but as I saw Instagram live, stories, and posts come in from the show I was like YESSSSSSSSSS this is the epitome of what I am expecting to see on the Met Gala red carpet. I went through a lot of potentials to wear this gown including Elle Fanning, Tracee Ellis Ross, and Rachel Brosnahan but when I thought of Rowan wearing this gown I knew it would be absolutely amazing. The gown is such a statement that I would typically say that the styling should be simple, but this is the Met Gala and with the ‘Camp’ theme and on Rowan I am definitely going for it. I would add a side parted finger wave style, dramatic and edgy blue crystal embellished eye makeup, bold matte red lips, a pair of blue glitter Miu Miu platform sandals, and more simplistic Anabela Chan ‘Twinkle’ sapphire, blue topaz, lapis lazuli cabochon, and white diamond ear jackets to definitely ensure that this would be a look to capture all attention on this red carpet.
The 2019 Met Gala will take place on the first Monday in May: May 6, 2019.
January was an incredibly glamorous month. It was filled with all kinds of major eye catching moments. From all the amazing looks at the Golden Globe and Critics Choice Awards to smaller awards events, parties, movie premieres, front row at Paris Couture Fashion Week, and sidewalk style. Narrowing down this list to just my 10 favorite looks from the first 31 days of 2019 was incredibly difficult. I don’t include looks that I included in any of the individual event best dressed lists. So we won’t see anything from the Golden Globes or Critics Choice Awards. I was underwhelmed in general with the SAG Awards red carpet so I did consider looks from that red carpet for this list. 1) Sarah Paulson in custom Prada at the London premiere of Glass: There was absolutely no doubt in my mind the moment I saw Sarah Paulson step onto the white carpet at the London premiere of Glass that she would end up on the top of my Best Dressed of January list. She delivered a major Best Dressed of the Year worthy moment on that red carpet wearing a hot pink and jade green custom Prada strapless gown which features flames engulfing the hem of the gown. I honestly never would have expected this gown from Sarah and she is really selling it to me. It was paired with an emerald Edie Parker clutch, lime green satin platform sandals, custom emerald and chrysoprase Irene Neuwirth tassel earrings, and a faux fur cropped coat (not pictured.) You never would have known that the high temperature in London the day of this premiere was only 47° F and the low was 28° F. Will this look stay in my good graces for the next 11 months and make the Best Dressed of the Year list? Probably. 2) Lady Gaga in Schiaparelli Couture at her Jazz & Piano Las Vegas Concert Residency: January might not have been exactly the winning month I was expecting Lady Gaga to have, but she has been pretty much killing the game when it comes to fashion. I expected that. Most of her Las Vegas residency at the MGM Grand is the edgy “Enigma” show, but she also has a few dates that are “Jazz & Piano” nights where you see Gaga giving big band performer realness. She traded in her Tom Ford and Atelier Versace catsuits for glamorous gowns for those Jazz & Piano nights and I was definitely blown away. The most wow moment was a hot pink silk Schiaparelli Couture opera coat which was paired with a strapless black velvet gown and matching black velvet opera gloves. It is almost similar to the periwinkle gown that Gaga wore for the Golden Globe Awards, but better. It was easily one of my favorite of Gaga’s performance looks ever.
3) Lady Gaga in custom Ralph Lauren at the National Board of Review Awards: I also am giving Gaga the third spot on this months Best Dressed list for the femme fatale moment she delivered on the red carpet at the National Board of Review Awards. She was honored with the Best Actress award and she definitely delivered the moment in spades. Her custom black crystal embellished Ralph Lauren tuxedo gown with a dramatic train and a black and gold feathered cape carried as a pouf made my heart beat. I love unapologetic glamour and Gaga knows how to sell it. She could easily pull this look out of her closet for her Jazz nights in Vegas. Will she?
4) Emily Blunt in custom Michael Kors at the SAG Awards: As I said earlier I was really disappointed this year with the SAG Awards red carpet in general, but there were a couple of really chic bright spots. The one that stood out to me most was this bubblegum pink custom Michael Kors gown that Emily Blunt wore. It was a very chic column gown that was given a dramatic flare with that ruffle around her shoulders and Emily really made it work. Some could get lost in those ruffles, but Emily powered through them with a regal ease. Her simple updo, matching pink lips, Forevermark diamond earrings, and white Jimmy Choo clutch all perfectly complimented this gown. 5) Rowan Blanchard in Marc Jacobs Spring 2019 RTW at the WB/InStyle Golden Globes After-Party: Rowan Blanchard has been one of my favorite young stars for a while now and I got very excited when I saw her step onto the red carpet at the Golden Globe Awards after-party hosted by Warner Brothers and InStyle wearing this frothy pink Marc Jacobs Spring 2019 RTW one shoulder mini dress. She gave me major couture cupcake vibes and totally sold it to me. On most I think that the ruffles of this gown would be very overwhelming, but Rowan really pushed through all of those layers. She debuted a new pixie cut with this look and it added to her vintage vibes with 1920’s inspired makeup. Overall this looked like a flapper meets 80’s prom moment and on paper it shouldn’t work, but on Rowan it does.
6) Celine Dion in Maison Margiela Fall 2018 RTW out and about in Paris: When it comes to style I have always loved me some Celine Dion, and in January she took some time to make the rounds during Paris Haute Couture Fashion Week and take in some time in Paris. She gave several chic street style moments, but my favorite was a yellow utility style maxi dress paired with a grey wool and white cable knit blazer from the Maison Margiela Fall 2018 RTW collection. Honestly this looks like something we would expect to see from Gigi or Bella Hadid, not Celine, but she really sold it to me. I think it was such of an unexpected moment that made me really love it. She decided to not go the heels route like she usually does, but instead paired this look with Maison Margiela clunky white and gold sneakers. Again it is very early twenty something model of the moment and Celine is wearing it with ease.
7) Jaime King in Maticevski Resort 2019 at the WB/InStyle Golden Globes After-Party: The Golden Globes after parties definitely delivered some chic moments on the red carpet. Jaime King always knows how to shut down the red carpet and she definitely did that with this black, champagne, and pink floral print Maticevski Resort 2019 origami drapes ball gown. This is definitely not an easy gown to pull off. There are a lot of details going on here, but Jaime was able to make this a very chic effortlessly glamorous moment. Her chic updo, bold makeup, drop earrings, and pumps all perfectly compliment this gown. 8) Alison Brie in custom Miu Miu at the SAG Awards: Bondage couture can be very hard to pull off on the red carpet, but Alison Brie did it in a custom Miu Miu gown at the SAG Awards. I won’t lie it took me a second to warm up to this gown, but by the end of the red carpet I was definitely in love with this black custom Miu Miu gown which features a column silhouette, strapless neckline, a crystal embellished dramatic bow on the back, an attached collar, and two bows detailed on the waist of the gown. The look is bold from the front, but honestly it was all about the back. It reminded me a lot of what Claire Waight Keller had just sent down the Givenchy Haute Couture runway days before this red carpet. In fact I initially thought it was a custom Givenchy gown. It worked and it was one of the best things that Alison has ever worn. She let the gown do most of the talking keeping her styling and beauty very simple. Overall this was obviously one of my favorite looks that night.
9) Laura Harrier in Cushnie Pre-Fall 2019 at the Palm Springs Film Festival Awards Gala: January kicked off with the annual Palm Springs Film Festival black tie awards gala. It almost always delivers a look that makes the Best of January list and has gone on to deliver Best Dressed of the Year worthy moments several times. This year it was Laura Harrier who really wowed me. It was one of the few red carpets so far this awards season that Laura hasn’t worn Louis Vuitton on. Instead she oped for a very chic and sleek white Cushnie Pre-Fall 2019 strapless gown which features a sequined top, sheer paneling at the waist, and a column skirt. This gown was that chic moment I always expect from Laura. It kicked off her awards season in high style. It was just a chic moment.
10) Nicole Kidman in custom Miu Miu at the AACTA Awards: Finishing out the list is the gorgeous Nicole Kidman in a custom Miu Miu gown at the AACTA Awards. Ahead of the Golden Globe Awards Nicole rocked this red carpet wearing this custom Miu Miu gown which features a black column skirt and a white ruffled bodice. It wasn’t something I would expect Nicole to wear for a smaller red carpet like this. I would have expected this from her at the Golden Globes, but I think the fact that it was for one of the smaller red carpets this awards season thus far that it was just that much more impactful. Everything about this look was styled perfectly and Nicole just looked absolutely regal.
This time next week the most fabulous of the worlds fabulous will have descended upon Paris to take in the Fall 2018 Couture shows. Paris Couture Fashion Week is one of my favorite times of the year because we get to see the newest designs from some of the most creative minds in the fashion industry. One of my favorite shows of the week is always Giambattista Valli. He gives glamour and drama like no other during the week and his designs are always a frothy confections that are incredibly daring. His designs have graced the red carpets at all the major film festivals and awards shows. So with festival season just around the corner and awards season coming right on the heels of that I am sure stars and stylists will be calling in their favorite looks from this collection moments after the designer takes his bow. One of the things I love about this show is that while other designers tend to focus more on the a-list celebrity Giambattista gives a good mix of one or two stars and a bunch of socialites. One of the frow regulars is usually Italian socialite Bianca Brandolini d’Adda. What I love about Bianca and her style is that while it isn’t necessarily in tune with what I typically think of Giambattista’s woman is but it always works. Bianca has a style that is this sexy and bohemian style that is always glamorous. So when I went to the runway to find a look for her to wear on the front row at this presentation next Monday I went to the brands Fall 2018 RTW collection picking this mixed print ensemble which features pink and yellow floral print ruffle detail long sleeve shirt and a pair of rust and olive sequin straight leg cropped pants for her. I feel like this look is totally something that Bianca would be drawn to and it is chic for the front row at a couture show. I feel like if she paired this look with a black Mansur Gavriel ‘Circle’ top handle bag, loose center parted beachy waves, defined eyes, nude lips, and a pair of black Jimmy Choo ‘Suri’ fur and glitter detail sandals that this would be a perfect front row moment for Bianca. Olivia Palermo is another typical socialite that makes the couture week front row rounds. She is usually perched on the front row of almost all of the shows during the week. One of the shows where she delivers one of the best looks of the week is when she perches herself front row at the Giambattista Valli Couture show. While most big names pick a look off the most recent runway I went back over a year ago and picked this Giambattista Valli Spring 2017 Couture collection. I definitely think that this cocktail ensemble which features a ruffled high neckline, long sleeves, 3D floral embroidery and a grey ostrich feather hem is something that Olivia would totally be drawn to. Olivia loves a feather moment and this dress is definitely a major feather moment. It would be a fun moment for a front row moment. To ensure that this look is perfection I would style it with a chic updo, light smokey eyes, blush pink lips, a grey Serupi crystal embellished clutch, and a pair of black Gianvito Rossi lace detail sandals. Rowan Blanchard has been one of my favorite young style stars and I would love to see her attend the Giambattista Valli Couture show next Monday. She has worn several cute, and dramatic, Giambattista Valli Couture cocktail ensembles and I really want to see her search for her next moment while sitting with the most glamorous of the glamorous. I feel like Rowan would definitely be able to sell this chic green floral embroidered Giambattista Valli Spring 2018 Couture mini dress to me to me on the front row. This chic flirty style which features a ruffled off the shoulder neckline and black ribbon bow details on the waist is definitely something that I have wanted to see on a red carpet, but I do really think that it would be a chic moment for a front row and I really do believe that Rowan would sell this dress to me. Add a romantic updo, green smokey eyes, pink lips, and a pair of emerald green Alexandre Birman ‘Clarita Nappa’ silk knotted strap sandals to really make this a really chic moment for Rowan. Another young star whom I would really love to see jaunt off to Paris is Black-ish and Grown-ish star Yara Shahidi. She has become a couture maven having rocked looks from many of the major couture houses and some of my favorite looks have come courtesy of Giambattista Valli. I feel like Yara would give a sexy, yet age appropriate and flirty moment on the front row of the Giambattista Valli Fall 2018 Couture presentation during Paris Fashion Week wearing this pink and grey floral print cocktail dress from the brands Spring 2018 Couture collection which features a beaded halter neckline, ruched bralet style bodice, and a mini length skater skirt. This is another of the flirty cocktail dresses from this collection that I really wanted to see brought to the red carpet and I really do think that Yara would be able to sell this dress to me on this front row. I have styled this look many different ways in past wishes, but for the front row I went a more casual way to bring down the dress from its uber sexy cocktail vibe that it inherently has. A chic braided updo, defined eyes, light pink lips, and a pair of rose pink Laurence Dacade glitter effect platform sandals all would really make sure that this is a perfect front row moment for Yara.
The Giambattista Valli Fall 2018 Couture presentation during Paris Fashion Week will take place on Monday July 2, 2018
You know I’m almost done with my Oscar wishes, just one more day after today, but I still have a lot of wishes for stars to rock on the Oscar parties red carpets before I’m done. I feel like Oscar night just brings everyone out for one event or another. From the main show at the Dolby Theater to the Elton John AIDS Foundation Oscar viewing party, and the Vanity Fair Oscar after party there is no lack of opportunities for any star of film, television, fashion, sports, business, and publishing. Diane Kruger is always one that I love to see on the red carpet and even though her film In The Fade didn’t earn an Oscar nomination I am praying that she will still step out for Oscar night this year. She has switched up from cocktail dresses, gowns, even a jumpsuit in the past from designers like Alexandre Vauthier, Reem Acra, Donna Karan Atelier, Giambattista Valli Couture, Valentino Couture, and Calvin Klein. This year I am going for a bigger gown than Diane has worn for a Vanity Fair party in the past with this cream ostrich feather and black tulle Christian Dior Spring 2018 Couture strapless, a-line gown. When I saw this gown Diane was the first person to come to mind and it was a hard battle for me to choose this or a white Jason Wu gown right off his New York Fashion Week runway. This is more of a dramatic option and I think that Diane is one of the few who could really sell this gown to me on the red carpet. With a sleek low bun, smokey eye, red lip, cream, white and black Rafe ‘Azura’ mother-of-pearl and metal faceted, asymmetric minaudiere, a pair of black and gold Rene Caovilla crystal studded t-strap satin sandals, and a pair of simple 18k gold set Cartier diamond and onyx pendant earrings I know I would fall over with how glamorous this look is. Jennifer Lopez has a performance at her Vegas residency the night before the Oscars, but it is also the last one before a two week break, so there is a good chance that we will see her on Oscar night. In the last 10 years we have seen Jenny on the red carpet at the Vanity Fair party red carpet three times, only on years where she has presented at the Oscars. Each time she was wardrobe changed for the party giving us sheer silver Zuhair Murad, black draped Gucci, and oxblood Zuhair Murad. She usually gives a big gown for the Oscars ceremony and then into something sleeker for the red carpet at the Vanity Fair party. This year I am going to big glamour for JLo to rock on on the Vanity Fair red carpet, even if she doesn’t present at the main ceremony this year. I feel like this sandy beige Zuhair Murad Spring 2018 Couture embellished organza tulle ballgown which features a sheer skirt, plunging neckline, a defined waist, and dramatic train would be a real moment for Jennifer to rock on this red carpet. She knows how to bring a major moment to the red carpet and when so many will change into simpler gowns and cocktail dresses after the actual Oscars ceremony I think that this gown would be a bold statement of glamour. A curled bun updo, smokey eye, nude lips, a cream crushed velvet Tyler Ellis ‘Aimee’ round small clutch, a pair of nude checked quadro lurex and specchio leather Christian Louboutin ‘New Very Prive’ peep toe platform pumps, and a selection of H. Stern raw diamond jewels including a pair of chandelier earrings and a ‘Genesis’ star cuff bracelet all would definitely ensure that all eyes are on JLo as she walks the Vanity Fair red carpet. Mary J. Blige is nominated for Best Supporting Actress at this years Oscars, but is highly unlikely to actually upset Allison Janney and take home the Academy Award next Sunday night. I am still really excited to see what Mary will bring to the red carpet she has consistently delivered more glamour and more drama on each and every red carpet she has graced this awards season. I have a really statement making Azzi & Osta gown on the horizon for my wish list for the main ceremony, but for the Vanity Fair party I went for something much simpler. I have been thinking of this white and gold La Perla Spring 2018 RTW beaded fringe column gown as a great option for Mary to wear during awards season since it came down its out of season runway in a celebration in Macau. It gives pure glamour and I think that the simple silhouette with the high embellishment would be a perfect moment for Mary to bring it to a red carpet. It doesn’t scream nominated actress at the Oscars, but is a really chic moment for the after parties. I feel like with old Hollywood waves, smokey eyes, nude lips, a pair of gold Christian Louboutin ‘Aketata’ peep toe platform sandals, and Jacob & Co. gold set diamond chandelier earrings all would ensure that Mary just oozes Hollywood glamour on the red carpet. Rowan Blanchard is one of the stars of A Wrinkle in Time that I am really excited to see on the red carpets coming up as the movie promo tour kicks off on Monday. Last year Rowan attended some of the pre-Oscars parties last year (wearing Rodarte and Giambattista Valli Couture,) but has never been on the red carpet at one of the big Oscar night parties. I would love to see that change this year and I think that this pink Giambattista Valli Fall 2017 Couture eyelet paisley cocktail dress which features puffy shoulders, a necklace beaded neckline, and a beaded hem would be a really statement making moment for Rowan. She knows how to deliver these avant garde designs and as she has delivered several of the more complicated Giambattista Valli Couture designs on the red carpet in the past I think that she would wear this one and make it look effortless. I would let the dress be the statement of the look adding a loose updo, defined eyes, matching pink lips, and a pair of major antique rose Sophia Webster ‘Coco Crystal’ pumps all would really ensure that Rowan has a major moment for her first Oscar night ensemble. Finishing out today is another of my favorite ladies to see on the red carpet, Zoe Kravitz. Her sleek black velvet Saint Laurent column gown which was accented with statement emeralds on the 2018 Golden Globe Awards red carpet was one of the best moments of the night. She knows how to do edgy, bohemian, glamour that doesn’t need prints and loose fit to deliver that idea. For the Vanity Fair party in the past Zoe has delivered everything from Armani Prive Couture to sexy Balenciaga by Alexander Wang. For this years red carpet I went for a more typical ‘glam’ moment, that I know Zoe would make a real effortless moment. I think that this black Oscar de la Renta Pre-Fall 2018 tulle slip style midi gown which features embellished stars and fringe details is something that I feel like Zoe would definitely make come to life on the red carpet. This is a gown I can see different stars wearing in very different ways. Zoe would wear it very simply letting it be the focus on the look adding a pair of simple black Saint Laurent ‘Amber Edie’ sandals, sleek short hair, defined eyes, nude lips, and a pair of statement IVY New York red spinel and diamond ear clips. I know that Zoe would just ooze sophistication wearing this look on the Vanity Fair Oscar party red carpet.
Oscar Night 2018 is Sunday March 4, 2018.
The premiere of A Wrinkle in Time will be a HUGE event. Originally I had read that the films LA premiere was going to take place the day right after the Oscars, but Disney decided to movie it up a little bit and it will kick off Oscar week taking place on Monday February 26, 2018. I feel like that was a great move. Oscar week means all the stars have descended upon Hollywood and we are highly likely to see all of the cast of the film on the red carpet, and then subsequently promote the film by attending Oscar week events all week long. I have been looking forward to this tour for a long time because the film is chock full out of strong, glamorous women and I know that they will deliver amazing looks on this red carpet. Ava DuVernay is the fearless leader of this film. I have heard that she had directed this cast into an absolutely amazing film. Ava has become a bit of a fashionista too. She has given us looks from Armani Prive, Ashi Studio, Greta Constantine, and Zac Posen. For the LA premiere of A Wrinkle in Time I would love to see Ava step out on the red carpet giving us glamour wearing this navy draped open back Prabal Gurung Pre-Fall 2018 long sleeve gown which gown features a high rounded neckline, gathered detail at the waist, sexy split, and an open back. This gown definitely shows more skin than we are used to seeing from Ava and we could very well see her have the gown customized covering the open back and closing the split. Personally I think that she should close the back and maybe sew the split up to just above the knee. If we are customizing the gown I would probably ask Prabal if he would add a dramatic train to really make this a major moment. I think that this would make for a chic, dazzling moment for Ava with a pair of navy satin Salvatore Ferragamo peep toe platform pumps, a bun of braids, smokey eyes, nude lips, and a pair of simple Harry Winston diamond teardrop earrings. Bellamy Young is going from First Lady (then President) of Scandal to what is expected to be one of the biggest Blockbusters of the year. Bellamy started working with stylist Victor Blanco last year and they have been making magic ever since. They haven’t had a gown moment yet so I am really interested in seeing what they will cook up for the premiere of A Wrinkle in Time. What I love about Victor is that he isn’t afraid to take chances and push his girls to go for really bold looks. I would love to see Victor put Bellamy in this black Azzaro Spring 2018 Couture strapless gown which features red beading, a defined waist, column gown, center split, and a caped back for this premiere. I think that this gown is dark glamour defined and that it would look absolutely beautiful on Bellamy. I would have her style her hair into a romantic updo adding a bold defined eye, red lip, simple black Stuart Weitzman ‘Nudistsong’ sandals, and a selection of Norman Silverman diamonds including a pair of simple drop earrings and a statement five row bracelet to really ensure that this look just exudes glamour head to toe. I love seeing Gugu Mbatha Raw on the red carpet and she has a lot of projects to promote this year and A Wrinkle in Time is the first of five projects that she has slated to promote this year. I want to see her give a very modern interpretation of glamour wearing this blush pink Armani Prive Spring 2018 Couture tea length gown which features a strapless neckline, column silhouette, an abstract draped asymmetrical rose detail on the hip, and a fully sequined skirt. I know that Gugu can sell this shape on the red carpet (it is similar to the electric blue sequined Oscar de la Renta gown she wore for the LA premiere of Beauty and the Beast) and I definitely think that she would deliver this as a beautiful, feminine moment. Short tight curls, rose gold smokey eyes, a light pink lip, nude Nancy Gonzalez ‘Rose’ crocodile flap clutch, a pair of bisque Gianvito Rossi pleated satin crystal broach buckle sandals, and Saati Fine Jewelry rose gold, pink quartz, and diamond drop earrings all would really ensure this look just oozes feminine glamour. Mindy Kaling is one who I find to be a very underrated style wise on the red carpet. She knows how to dress her curves and LOVES color. As one of the main stars of the A Wrinkle in Time I am really excited to see what she will deliver on this red carpet. I went to a bohemian yet glamorous moment with this bluegrass Elie Saab Pre-Fall 2018 gown which features short ruffled sleeves, a V-neckline and rounded back-line, lace inserts, and a slight train at back. I definitely think that while this isn’t a bright use of color like shocking pink or turquoise that it would be a beautiful moment against Mindy’s complexion. I would infuse the fun into this look through the styling wearing it with a sleek bun, smokey eye, wine red lips, black suede Aquazzura ‘Jaipur’ gold embroidered sandals, and a pair of rose gold Verdi mixed sapphire and diamond link earrings to make this a beautiful moment for Mindy. Oprah Winfrey is a queen and I want her to be fashON when she steps onto the red carpet at this premiere. It has been a long time since Oprah has stepped onto a red carpet as the star of a movie and I want to see her really go for it for this premiere. I would love to see Oprah wearing this hot pink Sachin + Babi Pre-Fall 2018 gown which features long peasant sleeves, a keyhole detail on the bodice, a red beaded neckline, long train, and a center split. This gown is bold and statement making but just oozes effortless glamour and I really want to see Oprah up the glam factor even more with the styling. Full curls pulled back, a smokey eye, red lip, red Aquazzura ‘Sofia’ open toe sandals, and a pair of Graff ‘Peony’ diamond and ruby floral drop earrings all would ensure that Oprah owns the red carpet at the LA premiere of A Wrinkle in Time. When it comes to the red carpet Reese Witherspoon is rarely one of my favorites on the red carpet. She often wears pretty, but boring things on the red carpet. I want to see her glow on the red carpet at the LA premiere of A Wrinkle in Time and I think the would do just that wearing this light gold sequin Christian Dior Pre-Fall 2018 a-line gown which features a camisole style bodice with a v-neckline. I feel like usually Reese’s best red carpet moments come from really dramatic gowns with big skirts and dramatic trains, but I think the simplicity of this gown and veering away from her standard column shape would be a really beautiful moment for Reese. I think that if she gave us femme fatale glamour via a 50’s inspired updo, cat eye smokey eyes, a bold red lip, a Christian Dior embroidered minaudiere in aged gold-tone metal and deep blue suede lambskin, gold Stuart Weitzman ‘Nudistsong’ glittered sandals, and a pair of vintage gold set Van Cleef & Arpels diamond tassel earrings all would ensure that this is one of the best red carpet moments Reese has had in a really long time. At 16 Rowan Blanchard has caught the eye of designers that most stars could only dream of. She has been dressed by Miu Miu, Giambattista Valli Couture, Chanel Couture, Rodarte, Proenza Schouler, and Gucci in the last year. I am really excited to see what she is going to bring to the red carpet at this premiere. While many would expect the couture factor to be brought by the likes of Oprah and Reese, but I am wishing that Rowan will do that wearing this ivory lace Chanel Spring 2018 Couture strapless cocktail dress overlaid with a crystal beaded organza midi length pinafore. This is a very precious dress that I feel like Rowan is one of the few that could make this a really chic red carpet moment. Some (like Kristen Stewart) might ditch the pinafore and just wear the lace cocktail dress, but I definitely think that it adds a very chic addition to this look. Finish it with a romantic updo, smokey eyes, a rose pink lip, nude Roger Vivier Roger Vivier suede block heel mule with crystal-embellished buckle, and a pair of Chanel Fine Jewelry diamond and opal floral earrings all would ensure this is such a beautiful moment for Rowan’s first blockbuster movie premiere.Finishing out this unusually long wish list is another budding fashionista the 14 year old Storm Reid. Now Storm has been checking out some blockbuster movie premieres recently attending the Star Wars: The Force Awakens and the Black Panther premieres in LA. I am hoping that this budding fashionista will deliver a really great moment on this red carpet. I had already picked a dress for Storm to wear, that I’ve already forgotten about, when I was flipping through the Vionnet Pre-Fall 2018 collection and I saw this green floral gown which features dramatic pleating and lots of ruffles on the bodice. Storm is incredibly tall for her age and I know it is going to take someone tall to really own this gown. I am confident that she would deliver this as a statuesque moment. The look would be perfectly rounded out with a chic braided hairstyle, green Serupi mother of pearl clutch, simple defined eyes, a soft pink lip, and a pair of forest green Marc Ellis velvet and leather cross front heeled sandals.
The LA premiere of A Wrinkle in Time will take place on Monday February 26, 2018.
