In a press conference about the exhibition at the Musée d’Orsay in Paris during Paris Fashion Week Louis Vuitton creative director, and co-chair of this years Met Gala, Nicholas Ghesquiere said: “thanks to it, our creations are transformed into valuable cultural artifacts, wearable treasures that can continue their vital stories about who we were, who we are and where we are going” when talking about what an indispensable resource the Costume Institute archives are to designers. Labels with storied archives like Yves Saint Laurent, Gucci, Prada, Chanel, Christian Dior, etc. all have archives that they personally hold, but the Met Museum have even more. Will designers be stopping by the Andrew Bolton’s office to get a golden ticket into the Met archive to look for inspiration for the looks they will send down the Met Gala red carpet? Only time will tell. Now one of those houses with a storied archive is Versace. I know they hold a whole archive of prints and creations from Gianni Versace and I have picked several looks from that archive for this years Met Gala red carpet. The look I’ve picked for Camila Cabello to wear for this years Met Gala comes from Donatella Versace’s own archives for Versace with this white silk and gold beaded strapless Atelier Versace Fall 1999 Couture gown which features a tiered wavy high low hem. This look is super fun and glamorous. Rock and roll princess vibes for days. Camila isn’t really one of my favorite people to see on the red carpet to be completely honest. More often than not I find myself putting Camila on the worst dressed list. BUT when Camila gets it right she gets it right. I do think that wearing this vintage Atelier Versace gown on this years Met Gala red carpet would definitely make sure that Camila is on her top form. Now where she can, and usually does, loose me is with her styling. This gown is such a statement all on its own that I would keep the styling super simple with a wavy half up half down updo, defined eyes, soft pink lips, a pair of metallic gold Versace ‘Medusa’ studded ankle strap platform sandals, and Boucheron ‘Armoiries’ art nouveau inspired yellow gold and diamond hoop earrings to ensure Camila owns her first Met Gala red carpet. A bonus wish would see Camila walking the red carpet with her beau Shawn Mendes wearing a black double breasted Versace Fall 2020 RTW tuxedo with beaded detail on the lapels. If you are looking at this Miu Miu Fall 2020 RTW ensemble and the fact I want to see it on Gemma Chan and thinking that I’m crazy you definitely need to keep reading. As I said in my introduction designers use the archives of the Metropolitan Museum of Art as a reference for design all the time. So it just makes sense that at least one of my wishes reference a look that lives in the archives. I saw this white silver and blue crystal embellished skirt on the runway at the Miu Miu Fall 2020 RTW presentation and my first thought was how incredible it would look as a gown. A brown strapless Cristobal Balenciaga Fall 1950 Couture gown I had seen in the digital archives of the Metropolitan Museum of Art came into my mind. Using these embellishments on white silk crepe creating a strapless column gown and then drawing inspiration from the Balenciaga gown and typing a navy taffeta sash around the waist into a bow on the back whose tails turn into a train would definitely be a perfect way for Miu Miu to represent this years theme of “About Time: Fashion and Duration” on the red carpet. The embellishments are beautiful and the silhouette of the custom gown would be fantastic on Gemma. She knows how to deliver elegance on the red carpet and I really do believe she would make this a super regal moment on the Met Gala red carpet styled with a sleek 50’s inspired updo, defined eyes, deep red lips, a white Judith Leiber Couture ‘Cayman’ crocodile leather crystal clasp clutch, a pair of white Miu Miu crystal embellished strappy slingback sandals, and dazzling David Morris white diamond chandelier earrings. Since Paul Andrew took the reigns at Salvatore Ferragamo I have been loving everything that has come down the runway. Last year he dressed a host of cool kids on the Met Gala red carpet including Solange Knowles, Cole Sprouse, Lili Reinheart, Pom Klementieff, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Frances Aaternir, Elizabeth Debicki, Taron Egerton, and Hero Fiennes Tiffin. While I would love to see the Ferragamo dress several stars on this years red carpet I only have one wish. That is for Lashana Lynch to wear a customized version of this gold chain banded fringe Salvatore Ferragamo Fall 2020 RTW dress which features a black fitted dress under the fringe with thick straps customized into a floor length gown. This look would give modern flapper vibes and I think that is something Lashana would be able to rock on the red carpet with effortless ease. Her short hair, smokey eyes with a gold liner, deep berry red lips, a gold art deco pattern Judith Leiber Couture ‘Swanson Gaia’ crystal embellished clutch, a pair of black leather and satin Salvatore Ferragamo strappy sandals, and a pair of antique circa 1830 mine cut diamond drop earrings from Fred Leighton would make sure Lashana’s Met Gala debut is all about the modern glamour. Historically Tom Ford dresses one female for the Met Gala red carpet. Over the years his choice in muse has ranged from Gemma Chan and Amal Clooney to Andrea Riseborough and Lara Stone to Rita Ora and Joan Smalls. I started thinking maybe Tom could dress a couple for this years Met Gala he showed his mens and womenswear together and was quoted saying “The core ethos of my work has never wavered and that is to make both men and woman the most beautiful versions of themselves.” He has never dressed a couple, but I am really excited about my wishes for Priyanka Chopra & Nick Jonas to bring looks from the Tom Ford Fall 2020 RTW collection to life on this years red carpet. Let’s start with Priyanka. I have been in love with this silver Tom Ford Fall 2020 RTW velvet bow embellished crystal chainmail gown which features a slim fit, column silhouette, cutout detail at chest, halter neckline, and a front slit since the moment I first saw it. The gown definitely fits the idea of timeless glamour which I think is how many will interpret this year’s theme. With a price tag of a whopping $64,500 this gown NEEDS a major moment on the Met Gala red carpet. I think the gown would hug all of Priyanka’s curves beautifully. She would ooze sexual glamour on the red carpet wearing this gown with old Hollywood waves, smokey eyes, matte red lips, black velvet Tom Ford crystal embellished ankle strap sandals, and a pair of major dazzling white diamond Chopard Red Carpet Collection chandelier earrings. Now I want to see Priyanka walk this red carpet with her hubby Nick Jonas wearing this black and white abstract print peak lapel tuxedo jacket paired with the white tuxedo shirt, big black bow tie, and black tuxedo pants the look was styled with on the runway. Now while a pair of good Tom Ford shoes would be expected I would instead want to see Nick wear a pair of black patent leather Christian Louboutin ‘Dandelion Tassel’ dress loafers with this tuxedo. Finishing the look with a bit of sparkle via a Chopard ‘L.U.C. Quattro Torbillion’ diamond encrusted watch with a black alligator leather strap would ensure this is one super sexy couple on this red carpet. I am trusting Zoey Deutch with one of my favorite gowns from the Spring 2020 Couture collection. This is not a task I give her lightly, but after she turned one of my favorite looks from the Fall 2019 Couture collection really come to life on the red carpet at the Vanity Fair Oscar Party earlier this year I figured I would take a chance on her. I LOVE this dazzling black Valentino Spring 2020 Couture strapless gown which features a ruffled neckline and peplum, an a-line skirt, sheer pleating, and gold sunburst beaded embellishments throughout. It was one gown I really thought we were going to see on Oscar night, but since it wasn’t snatched up I feel like it has to be the perfect moment for Zoey to bring to life on the Met Gala red carpet. She brings effortless glam to the red carpet, but knows how to dazzle as well and that is exactly what we are going to see if she donned this gown. Styling this gown with a sleek updo, defined eyes, soft pink lips, a pair of black Valentino ‘Upflair’ feather tassel strappy sandals, and Wonders of Nature black diamond bead tassel earrings would definitely make sure that Zoey delivers this moment perfectly.
As they say fashion week stops for nothing. Well this season the Coronavirus tried to shut down the bi-annual Milan Fashion Week, and only partially succeeded. While the theaters on the final day of Milan Fashion Week might have been devoid of the usual guests of editors, buyers, celebrities, and influencers the shows still went on with those aforementioned people watching the collections come down the runway via a livestream from their hotel rooms. Overall I feel like while in shear number I was disappointed in the offerings that came out of Milan, but overall the quality of moment far exceeded both New York and London. In my wishes below you will find some absolutely major wishes for which I am now sending major positive energy out into the universe to manifest the red carpet moments and keep be excited about fashion. After loosing inspiration towards the end of last year and a mostly lackluster and rushed awards season the looks below give me hope that this year will have major glamour moments in store for us.
Milan Fashion Week ended almost two and a half weeks ago, but I have just been so busy that I haven’t had a chance to get my 15 favorite looks that I want to see on the red carpet list out there. These posts take a lot of time not just because I have to go through all of the collections and narrow down all the looks down to just 15 but have to research the collections and then pick who I want to see wearing the looks on the red carpet. Over the course of Milan Fashion Week I saved over 350 looks that I think have red carpet potential. These looks cover everything from major gowns to cocktail moments to chic casual looks for press events to edgy performance looks. I went through all of those collections and narrowed them down to the following 15. These are the looks from Milan Fashion Week – Spring 2019 that I want to see on a red carpet.Attico: One of the brands that I have loved watching grow over the last year is Attico. It is one of the chicest, very Italian brands who deliver very wearable glamour in their collections. For Spring 2019 RTW the collection was a major love letter to the 80’s and I definitely think we will see many looks from he collection on the red carpet. Over the last year stars have really embraced the brand for cocktail and press appearances. In fact Olga Kurylenko has already brought a feathered buster and leather cargo pants ensemble from the brands Spring 2019 RTW collection to life for the London premiere of Jenny English Strikes Again. I went for more a simple look from this collection for Jennifer Lopez with this lilac and orange creamsicle fluid pois jacquard ‘Pat’ dress which features puff shoulders, faux wrap style, a v-neckline, a tie detail at waist, and embellished shoulder details. This dress is very chic and wearable and if JLo rocked this for a press stop during her upcoming movie promo tour I think it would be perfection.
Dolce & Gabbana: In the wake of Stefano Gabbana calling Selena Gomez, whom Dolce & Gabbana had dressed several times over the years, ugly it seemed like the Time’s Up movement was going to really push a boycott of the brand. However since the brand is such a fashion powerhouse I don’t think is going to stop stars from wearing the brand on the red carpet. In fact Cardi B just wore a dramatic gown from this collection on the red carpet at the American Music Awards. Aside from that Domenico & Stefano showed a collection that really embraced all of the codes that they have infused into the brands DNA over the last 33 years. The show was a celebration of women, a diverse group of women. There were women of different sizes, every color, and many age groups. It was actually really beautiful. The moment I saw this blue and natural sleeveless mixed-fringe midi dress which features contrasting rows of fringe and tassels throughout, a midi length, and a column silhouette I pictured it being rocked by Amal Clooney as she is spotted headed out on a date night with George.
Emporio Armani: I usually wouldn’t pay much attention to Emporio Armani, but with bold colors and sparkling embellishments my inner magpie was drawn to this collection. This faction of the Armani brand is usually geared towards a younger crowd and I really think that there are quite a few looks that young Hollywood stars will want to fight over. I think that if anyone could really make this electric lime green and royal blue strapless jumpsuit which features intricate sequin and feathered embroidery and I definitely think it would be Halsey.Ermanno Scervino: When you look at an Ermanno Scervino collection you know you are going to get two things volume and glamour. The brand is known for those and doesn’t veer from that very often. While you don’t get boundary pushing designs like you can find at other Milan based brands like Marni, Prada, or Gucci you know that there will be great red carpet options from Ermanno Scervino. Orange is a huge trend for Spring 2019 RTW and I think that Jasmine Sanders would be the perfect person to bring this Ermanno Scervino Spring 2019 RTW orange tea length gown which features a strapless sweetheart neckline and dramatic ruffles offering of the trend to life on the red carpet.
Etro: While Etro is a very successful brand when it comes to sales they don’t often get a whole lot of red carpet love. The brand, known for bold eccentric prints, doesn’t focus on celebrities to influence sales likes some other brands so when they do end up on a red carpet I get very excited. There aren’t a whole lot of looks from the Etro Spring 2019 RTW collection that I think could be red carpet looks, but this black white and yellow floral print one shoulder gown is definitely one that I think could be really chic. I think that if anyone could really make this look work, probably on one of the more causal party red carpets, it would be supermodel turned actress Suki Waterhouse.
Fausto Puglisi: In an off season from showing a runway show Fausto Puglisi showed an 80’s Flashdance inspired collection in a presentation/lookbook. The collection was very much repetitive, but it is definitely something that I think many music stars will be drawn to. While I typically pick red carpet looks for this list it was this cape meets letterman jacket and color blocked swimsuit that really spoke to me from this collection. I immediately pictured Rita Ora rocking this look for one of her many performances. Giorgio Armani: I wasn’t thrilled with the Giorgio Armani Spring 2019 RTW. I was hoping for really amazing things, but I was rather underwhelmed with what Mr. Armani sent down the runway. The fit of the collection overall was terrible and the color palette reminded me of a Dixie disposable cup. I do however want to thee this Monet ‘Waterlilies’ inspired print beaded fringe cap sleeve jumpsuit which features a plunging v-neckline, and cutout sides and back on the red carpet and wouldn’t supermodel Karolina Kurkova just really deliver this look with ease on the red carpet?
Marni: Marni is one of the rarest brands on this list to see on the red carpet. It used to be a favorite of Anna Wintour, Maggie Gyllenhaal, and Carey Mulligan. It had a hit H&M collaboration. But we don’t often see the brand on the red carpet anymore. I will say there weren’t too many looks from the Spring 2019 RTW collection that I think have what it takes to make a really chic red carpet moment (plenty of items that can be incorporated into your personal wardrobe though,) but this neutral canvas sleeveless midi dress which features a ruched exaggerated waist, a gathered a-line skirt, and blue hand-painted floral detail throughout made Keira Knightley pop into my mind. It could be a really chic press look while she is out promoting The Nutcracker and the Four Realms.
Missoni: In the last year we have seen a revitalized celebrity love of Milan based knitwear brand Missoni on the red carpet. The brand has been back to more creative looks than just reinventing its signature multicolored zig zag print over and over again. It’s almost like the brand has gone through a bit of a renaissance again. While incredibly easy to wear knits were the focus of the brands Spring 2019 RTW collection there were a handful of looks that I could definitely see celebrity stylists vying to get their hands on. One of those looks was this slate blue sheer halter gown which features layers of metallic knit layers. This is a very easy glam moment and the moment I saw it I immediately thought it would be something that Zoe Saldana would be drawn to. Moschino: There was a bit of controversy surrounding Jeremy Scott’s Spring 2019 Collection for Moschino. Edda Gimnes, a Norwegian womenswear designer based in London, accused Scott to taking un-credited inspiration from one of her collections that heavily featured a marker print as did this collection, but I have to say that the kitschy (campy) spirit of this print is something that has been in the Moschino archive for many years. He gave several examples of this technique in his defense including a Moschino ad campaign from 1986 and a jacket (similar to the one shown above) shown in the Moschino Spring 1992 collection. I loved the major artist doodle pad meets Pretty Woman vibe that was given in this collection. Jeremy is one of the masters, and I definitely think that the MET Museum picked wrong in its choice of designer co-chairs for next years MET Gala. The show started strong with the black and white trompe-l’œil print crepe suit which features a bow front blazer and a pair of tapered pants and just continued to deliver hit look after hit look. I was taken with that suit because it seemed to be the perfect meshing of the brands signature camp and a sense of wearability and I definitely think that it is something that Evan Rachel Wood would rock on a red carpet. No one does a suit on a red carpet quite like ERW.
No. 21: Every season I always find one look from No. 21 to feature on my lists. I love the brand. From the chic clothing it creates to amazing iconic accessories I just think that the brand exudes wearable glamour. I also feel like the brand is totally underrated when it comes to the red carpet. It has attracted the likes of Constance Wu, Dakota Fanning, Diane Kruger, and Jessica Chastain in the last year or so. I want to see stars snatch up looks from the Spring 2019 RTW collection including this sequin fringe ‘Anne’ dress features a sleeveless knit dress underneath an embellished outer layer with a fitted silhouette which I definitely think Amber Heard should snatch up for press appearances for Aquaman.
Roberto Cavalli: I was less than impressed with Paul Surridge’s debut as the Roberto Cavalli creative director a year ago. He just didn’t seem to have that same sense of sex and flash that is at the core of the Cavalli DNA, but considering some of the couture gowns he’s created for Olivia Wilde, Sara Sampaio, Joan Smalls, and Alessandra Ambrosio in addition to his Resort 2019 collection I think that he could have a place at the house, he just has a steep learning curve to live up to the likes of Mr. Cavalli himself and even former creative director Peter Dundas. I do believe that he did a better job of balancing his tailoring experience with the hyper sexuality of the Cavalli woman this season. I actually want to see several of the looks from this collection on the red carpet and I definitely think that Olivia Wilde would take this terracotta colored long sleeve midi dress which features a sheer long sleeve beaded bodice with a plunging neckline and a ruched a-line midi skirt and make it a really chic red carpet moment. Is it the sexy mini dresses that Surridge also presented in this collection? No, but I still think that it defines the Cavalli woman. Salvatore Ferragamo: Like the new Cavalli creative director I was less than enthused with Paul Andrew’s (the shoe designer whose eponymous line I LOVE) debut at Salvatore Ferragamo back in February, but now he has had a look on both my Best of Resort 2019 and my Best of Milan Fashion Week Spring 2019 lists. The collections have gotten stronger and stronger. There were several looks from his newest collection that I think are destined for casual events like press interviews and then gowns that are perfect for gala’s. I think that for one of the more edgier, “artistic” galas that Olivia Munn would rock this suede macramé dress layered over indocina silk slip dress features a sleeveless body with a straight, fitted silhouette and full length with fringe hem. It is edgy and glamorous and I definitely think with her inherent sex appeal that Olivia radiates on the red carpet would really ensure this look is perfection.
Sportmax: I don’t usually bother looking at Sportmax collection typically. The looks that the brand send down the runway aren’t typically what I feature here on If I Was A Stylist, but something told me to check out this seasons collection. I’m glad I did. The brand had more of a dazzling air to it this season compared to the more day to day sportswear vibe we typically see from the brand. I fell in love with this silver and blue ‘Ciriaco’ dress designed with slits on both sides, sequin detailing throughout, a haltered neckline, and a midi length hem the moment I saw it. Is it anything really innovative or boundary pushing when it comes to style? No, but it is just a fun dazzling party look that I think would be perfect for Tiffany Haddish.
Vionnet: Finishing out this list is the always beautiful Vionnet. The label established in 1912 and revitalized in 2009 has been one of the brands that I feel is very underrated. When it first relaunched it was a celeb favorite, but in recent years that love has waned. I want to see the brand, which has been working at becoming a leader in sustainable luxury, have a resurgence as a celebrity favorite. It isn’t one of the edgy boundary pushing labels that we typically see on the fashion week circuit, but I think that the glamorous draping is perfect for the red carpet. It has been a hot minute but Naomie Harris was a fan of Vionnet and I definitely think that she would be the perfect person to bring this beige and hot pink tulle draped gown which features a silver waistband, plunging v-neckline, and a sheer skirt to life on a red carpet.
So there you have it my 15 favorite looks that came down the Milan Fashion Week runways for Spring 2019 RTW. Which ones do you want to see on the red carpet and who do you want to see bring it to life?
This is the first time I’ve covered any of the stars who we might see later this month at the 2018 San Diego Comic-Con and I have to say that I am really excited to see what everyone will bring. Another reason why I have loved putting these wishes together because I have been able to use some of the looks and designers that I don’t often get to feature on this site. I feel like I focus more on the cocktail and gown event, which I love, but I feel like sometimes a really great casual moment can be just as appreciated. Anya Taylor Joy is one of the stars of The New Mutants which was supposed to be released earlier this year, but it was pushed to next August. So with that in mind I don’t know if she will be on deck this year for Comic-Con or not. I have loved to see her extra meets bohemian style grow since she first burst onto the scene. She has been embraced major brands like Prada, Schiaparelli, Dolce & Gabbana, Chanel and Gucci and also given love to young brands like Huishan Zhang recently. I would love to see Anya give a chic casual moment going to for not your typical red carpet brand A.L.C. for her Comic-Con ensemble. I was actually really surprised by how much I loved this collection and I really do think that this ivory robe style dress which features and obi style belt, long sleeves, skater skirt, and plunging neckline would be a flirty and event appropriate yet glamorous moment for Anya to bring to this red carpet especially when paired with loose waves, defined eyes, pink lips, and a pair of black and silver Dolce & Gabbana buckle detail chunky heel graffiti pumps. I have been seeing so many great looks for Evan Rachel Wood to rock all over the Resort 2019 and Fall 2018 Couture runways and it is making me really excited for her (potential) Emmy’s run. I have heard that despite being in the throws of Season 2 currently and the fact that it is a favorite for some Emmy’s this year that Westworld won’t be paneled at Comic-Con this year, despite being on the schedule last year. I hope that isn’t true because I really want to see ERW bring a chic moment to Comic-Con and that is exactly what would happen if she wore this black No. 21 Resort 2019 short suit which features a double breasted blazer with white shirting details attached to the hem and cuff and a pair of mini Bermuda shorts. This look needs someone with cool girl attitude to really make it work out of the lookbook and I know that Evan has that effortless cool girl ease to really make this look come to life. Styling it with a sleek low bun, defined eyes, red lips, and black Nicholas Kirkwood ‘Lola Pearl’ sequin and suede sock boots would keep that cool girl vibe going.I will say I was kinda surprised not to see Keira Knightley at the Chanel Couture show yesterday. She has the winter blockbuster promo tour for The Nutcracker and the Four Realms to plan for. I don’t know if Disney movies, outside of the Marvel universe, will feature at Comic-Con but this type of live action fantasy is something I feel we could see presented. We have never seem Keira do Comic-Con before and with her style of films sticking more to the film festival crowd it doesn’t surprise me. Her style doesn’t scream Comic-Con to me either. As I write this I honestly don’t even know if this black, white, and peach Chanel Cruise 2019 midi dress is right either. I can totally see Keira wearing it, but I’m doubting that it would be the right choice for Comic-Con. I feel like we could see Keira go really casual wearing jeans, a white t-shirt, a Chanel tweed jacket, and a pair of Chanel sneakers for an event like this. Michelle Williams hasn’t been to Comic-Con since she presented Oz the Great and Powerful back in 2012 wearing a chic black and white Giulietta shift dress. She is another of the stars whose style I don’t necessarily vibes with what we expect at Comic-Con, especially now that shes a slave to Louis Vuitton. Could a Comic-Con appearance to promote Venom (which will release in October) be an extremely rare public appearance where Michelle decides to go outside of the Louis Vuitton umbrella? My guess is the chances of that are slim to none, but I will crave it none the less while still making a wish for Michelle to wear a Louis Vuitton ensemble. I feel like this black silk Louis Vuitton Cruise 2019 knotted drape dress is right up Michelle’s ally but I would imagine that she would have it modified to bring up the very deep plunging neckline and cover up the cutouts on the sides and back of the dress. Those modifications would indeed take the allure out of this dress, but that is what I come to expect from Michelle. I wouldn’t expect any stand out styling to make up for the modifications either. I would imagine that Michelle would pair the modified dress with her signature sleek pixie, defined eyes, nude glossy lips, and a pair of black Louis Vuitton ‘Horizon’ low heel logo sandals.Rounding out this set of wishes is one of my favorite ladies whom I haven’t been able to feature enough of lately, Ruth Negga. Since bursting onto the scene with her award winning performance in Loving Ruth has gone on to role in Preacher and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. so I would imagine that she will be at Comic-Con to promote either of those shows. She was at Comic-Con last year but her best looks (from The Vampire’s Wife and Miu Miu) were only seen thanks to her stylist Karla Welch and her Instagram. Ruth isn’t afraid to be a little extra so that is why I went for a full on leather look for her to wear for this years Comic-Con with this Salvatore Ferragamo Resort 2019 ensemble which features a black, white and red patchwork halter top and black wide leg, high waisted culottes. I saw this look in the Ferragamo lookbook and Ruth was the first person to come to mind and it made me hope that there would be an occasion that I could use this look to wish for and then I thought of Comic-Con and the pieces just fell into place. A pair of black Sergio Rossi studded t-bar strappy sandals, a knotted braids bun, defined eyes, and oxblood red lips are what I would add to this ensemble to make sure this is a perfect look from head to toe.
The 2018 San Diego Comic-Con will take place from July 19 to 22, 2018.
As the days tick by I get more and more excited for this years Oscar parties. We aren’t even halfway done with my wishes for the Elton John AIDS Foundation and Vanity Fair Oscar night parties. They can bring out all of Hollywood’s elite for one or more of the events that night, and when they do step out stars know that we the pressures of Oscar night still apply to the Oscar parties red carpet. And usually they bring their A game on those red carpets. It makes it difficult sometimes to pick Best Dressed lists because there are usually so many major moments on these red carpets, and based on the looks that have come down the runways recently I am predicting that this year will be one of the best nights on the red carpets again. Ever since her Oscar win in 2013 Anne Hathaway has kept a really low profile. Attending very few events, and not giving her best glam on those red carpets. I am really hoping that with several movies on the horizon this year including Nasty Women (a re-invented take on Dirty Rotten Scoundrels,) Serenity, and the much anticipated Oceans Eight I am really excited to see what Anne has in store for the year. I would imagine that the road to promote all of those films will kick off on Oscar night with Anne delivering a really major moment on the Vanity Fair Oscar Party red carpet. One thing I love about Anne is her close personal friendship with Valentino Garavini. She has been one of the very few who has been able to dig into the Valentino Archives, and I originally thought about going to a really great vintage Valentino gown. Then I saw this red liquid sequin Valentino Spring 2018 Couture strapless gown which features a column silhouette, an ankle length hem, and a dramatic train. I loved this gown the moment I saw it come down the runway, and I definitely think that Anne has the chops to really make it a beautiful moment. The gown has potential to go several different ways based on how it is styled. On Anne I know that it would be nothing but elegant glamour. She would add glamorous old Hollywood waves, a simple defined eye, bold red lips, a pair of red Stuart Weitzman ‘Nudistsong’ sandals, and Van Cleef & Arpels high jewelry ruby and diamond floral pendant earrings to really punctuate the glamour of this look perfectly. Gabrielle Union left very little to the imagination when she walked the Vanity Fair Oscar Party red carpet last year wearing a barely there Jean Paul Gaultier Couture gown. It toed the line of glamour and trashy, but I know that Gabrielle can really deliver some really glamorous moments on the red carpet. I am praying to see her deliver a mahjor glamorous moment on the red carpet this year. I think that she would definitely make this white John Paul Ataker Spring 2018 RTW strapless gown which features a fan pleated neckline, a gold embroidered waist, and an asymmetrical duel fabric pleated a-line skirt a really chic moment on the red carpet. Some stars wear gowns with these dramatic ruffles on necklines and shoulders and get lost behind them, but I think that Gabrielle knows how to do dramatic glamour in a really chic way and that her presence can come through the gown. I want to see her wear the gown and not let the gown wear her. I would keep things pretty simple with the styling adding a sleek low bun, smokey eye, dusty pink lips, a pair of brass and silver Aquazzura ‘Moonray’ sandals, and asymmetrical yellow and diamond Bogh-Art pendant earrings to really ensure this look is nothing but glamour. Katy Perry delivered a really modern glam moment on Oscar night last year, wearing Jean Paul Gaultier Couture, and I am really excited to see what the pop star and American Idol judge will bring to the red carpet on Oscar night this year. Katy is a usual face at the Vanity Fair party, but also is one of the co-hosts of this year of the Elton John AIDS Foundation Oscar Viewing Party. I would love to see Katy show off her fashion chops this year and give two very different, but still equally glamorous moments on the red carpets at each of these events. For the Elton John party I went edgy glam with this black Roberto Cavalli Couture gown which feature a one shoulder, one sleeve gown which features a column silhouette, dramatic split, a cutout on the waist, and gold embroidery. The looks for Elton John are usually a little bit more tame than what we see on the red carpet at the main show and the Vanity Fair party, and I think that this Cavalli Couture gown would be the perfect gown for Katy to rock for that moment. Style the look with an punky spiky hairstyle, thick smokey eyes, red lips, gold Giuseppe Zanotti ‘Ellie’ strappy sandals, and a pair of Cartier orange and brown diamond serpent earrings to really ensure this a really major moment. Swapping edgy glam for nothing but glamour for the Vanity Fair party I would love to see Katy wearing my favorite white and silver Chanel Spring 2017 Couture sleeveless gown which features a column silhouette, plunging neckline, silver sequin detailing, a feathered pouf, and a sheer hem. As I have said several times now I am really shocked that this gown hasn’t been worn. I was expecting this to be worn last Oscar night, but alas all the major red carpets of the last year have come and gone and this dress has been left to the archive. I will say Katy wasn’t the first person who came to mind when I saw this gown, but now I definitely think that she could do this gown some real justice on the red carpet. A pair of silver star embellished Giuseppe Zanotti three strap sandals, sleek hair, simple defined eyes, a hot pink lip, and Cartier diamond and opal floral drop earrings all would ensure that this is another really great look for Katy to rock for Oscar night. Olivia Culpo has been a red carpet corespondent for E! at past Oscars and then we usually see her head from the red carpet at the main show to the red carpet at the Elton John AIDS Foundation Oscar viewing party. Usually the gowns she wears on the Oscars red carpet is what she will continue wearing for the red carpet at Elton’s party, so you can also take this as my wish for her to wear for her time on E!, if she is on the red carpet with them again this year. I would love to see Olivia return to the same designer she wore for last years Oscars, Marchesa. The gown she wore last year was custom designed out of glass beads in coordination with Stella Artois, and Marchesa to raise money to help fund clean drinking water for people around the world. This pale blush pink Marchesa Spring 2018 RTW gown which features a plunging neckline, pearl necklace and bow embellishment, and 3D silk organza and floral embroidery isn’t the same statement as that gown, but it is just really beautiful. I have been trying to figure out the perfect person to wear this gown since I first saw it, and I definitely think that Olivia would more than do it justice. With a dusty rose pink Bottega Veneta woven satin knot clutch, a sleek low bun, simple defined eyes, a rose pink lip, white Chloe Gosselin ‘Narcissus’ sandals, and a pair of Boucheron Haute Jewelry white and pink diamond drop earrings I know that this would be a really chic moment for Olivia. Finishing things off today is the gorgeous Suki Waterhouse. We have only seen the model turned actress on the Vanity Fair Party red carpet once, back in 2015 when she was still dating Bradley Cooper wearing a custom Burberry gown. With some of the strides into the film industry that Suki has given us some great looks on the red carpets and I would love to see her on the red carpet this year at the Vanity Fair Oscar party. I think that she would definitely make this amethyst purple Salvatore Ferragamo Spring 2018 RTW pailette covered gown rendered in silk which features a v-neckline, removable python strap at back, and a slight train. I was really hoping to see someone wear this gown and I feel like Oscar night is the last chance that we will have to allow for those hopes to happen. I think that this gown suits Suki’s very glam, yet bohemian approach to dressing and I think that with a pair of blush pink Salvatore Ferragamo flower heel sandals, a romantic and bohemian updo, dark purple smokey eyes, dusty rose lip, and a pair of Chopard Red Carpet Collection amethyst earrings that it wold be head to toe perfection.
Oscar Night 2018 will take place on Sunday March 6, 2018.
When it comes to the working woman I have to sat that Amal Clooney is kinda the ultimate style icon. She knows how to dominate style while still maintaining a very professional presentation. She has worn some really great looks to lobby for human rights at the United Nations, White House, US Congress, British Parliament, and more wearing some of the hottest off the runway looks and the best vintage money can buy. While some of my recent wishes for her to walk the red carpet as George Clooney’s plus one for his movie premieres, but I know that she is so much more than that. Instead of picking gorgeous gowns for Amal to wear on a red carpet I decided to instead pick off the runway (and some great vintage) for her to wear while she is running around the world advocating for women’s and human rights. Kicking off my wishes for Amal I would love to see her wearing this amazing red Brandon Maxwell Spring 2018 RTW dress which features a rounded mock neck, ribbed construction, and a pleated dropped hem. This dress is classic in its shape and a but wow in it’s color. Amal is never one to shy away from hiding behind black and beige like many in the corporate tend to do. I didn’t tone down the red in the styling either I went to a great red vintage Chanel tweed double breasted blazer, a vintage red Hermes ‘White Bass Up’ tote bag and keeping the red theme going with Jimmy Choo ‘Vanessa’ pumps and a pair of oversized red Gucci round sunglasses to really pull this look together perfectly.None of the rest of my wishes for Amal to wear in her business style are anywhere near as bold as the red look I started out with. The look that actually inspired me to put this list together was this pale yellow Georges Hobeika Sprig 2018 RTW ensemble which features a blouson short sleeve button down paired with a pair of high waisted, wide leg pants and I think that it is definitely something that has the potential to be a really major moment. I think that moment would be elevated even further with a pale yellow wood tweed Chanel bag, a pair of nude Aquazzura ‘Forever Marilyn’ suede pumps, and a pair of big gold tone Elie Saab crystal-embellished round frame sunglasses.
Amal is the queen of amazing vintage and her go to retailer tends to be William Vintage. The store has some amazing pieces in their archive and I had a blast scouring their website for some of those amazing pieces to pick for Amal to add into her wardrobe. This vintage Hardey Amies grey ‘Prince of Wales’ check suit which features a long sleeved jacket that has a double lapel collar and ties at the front and a short sleeved dress that features decorative buttons to front and inset pockets on the hip screamed Amal’s smart, strong business glamour and I can definitely see her picking this suit to spend a day at the United Nations at hearings. Adding a black and green Prada ‘Esplanade’ tote and a pair of black Malone Souliers ‘Saide’ t-bar pumps all would make this another great moment for Amal.
Sometimes Amal takes a more casual vibe during some of her more relaxed meetings and I think that she would definitely make this white cold shoulder draped Grey Jason Wu Spring 2017 RTW dress would be a perfect choice for her to wear. A simple white dress like this is a perfect canvas for some great accessories and I think that a nude Bottega Veneta ‘Mini Montebello’ multicolored meadow flower embroidered bag and a pair of pink Jimmy Choo ‘Saga’ suede flame cutout pumps would be the perfect pieced to elevate this look.
Like I said earlier Amal is the queen of vintage and I love seeing her wearing great vintage. When I saw this Lanvin ensemble form 1967 that features constructed in cotton and featuring an abstract print in shades of green, navy blue and red, this skirt suit will look great worn as a coordinating set or split for easy-to-wear separates. The sleeveless top features splits to the sides and decorative pockets to the front, while pieces fasten to the front with buttons and a leather belt sits on waist of the skirt. The look is a very chic and when paired with a black Gucci ‘Sylvie’ leather top handle bag, a pair of black Nicholas Kirkwood ‘Maeva’ pearl pumps, and a pair of tortoise Max Mara ‘Anita’ Sunglasses it will be totally perfect.
The final look that I have picked for Amal is this great tan Salvatore Ferragamo Spring 2018 RTW suit which is made up of a short sleeve linen blazer and matching wide leg pants. This is one of those runway looks that I really want to see worn, but save from Amal I don’t think there are many stars who will wear this look. Adding a cream Salvatore Ferragamo cotton-blend v-neck blouse, a mocha Salvatore Ferragamo ‘Beky’ tote, gold Salvatore Ferragamo ‘Flower Heel’ pumps, a pair of brown acetate Salvatore Ferragamo ‘Signature’ sunglasses, and a statement gold Oscar de la Renta twisted ribbon necklace all would ensure that this is just another major style moment for Amal.
It has been one week since Thor: Ragnarok had its first red carpet premiere and the cast kicked it off in high style. Cate Blanchett donned short acid yellow sequined Gucci and Tessa Thompson matched perfectly in elegant, ethereal Schiaparelli Couture. I am surprised by how big of a gap there is between the films premiere in LA and the scheduled premiere in London on October 25, 2017. Usually they are within a week of each other, but I am excited for this premiere none the less. I have to say I had really high expectations for Cate Blanchett for the LA premiere of Thor: Ragnarok and I was just not feeling her Gucci dress from that red carpet. Her styling didn’t help either. I am praying that she will start to wow me again soon. The next time that I know we will see Cate on a red carpet will be the films London premiere I would love to see Cate regain her regal elegance and really wow me, or wear the Maison Margiela gown I am desperately dying to see her rock. Cate would be the epitome of modern glamour wearing this Ralph Lauren Fall 2017 RTW ball gown which features a grey strapless bustier, silver belt, and black tiered skirt. This look is something I can picture on the back of a royal and what better royal to wear it than the red carpet queen? Styling the look with a sleek low bun, kohl rimmed eyes, nude lip, black Christian Louboutin ‘Candidate’ pearly-embellished suede pumps, and a selection of Tiffany & Co. jewels including a pair of diamond and tanzanite drop earrings and a statement diamond bangle would really make sure that this a top tier moment for Cate.Jaimie Alexander skipped the LA premiere which was a little surprising. Usually Jaimie takes every chance that she has to dress up and walk a red carpet, so I am wondering if she will make the jaunt to London. I opted for something simpler that I think would be a chic moment for Jaimie. I think that this papaya orange Cushnie et Ochs Spring 2018 RTW sheath dress which features a tonal ribbon neckline with a cutout detail, knee length silhouette, and thin straps would be a beautiful, chic, simple moment on Jaime. I think that with a pair of bronze Schutz ‘Saasha Lee’ sandals, sleek pompadour, smokey eye, peachy pink lip, and a pair of statement H. Stern chandelier earrings that Jaimie would be beautiful on the red carpet at this premiere. Tessa Thompson brought it to the red carpet at the Thor: Ragnarok premiere in LA wearing one of my favorite Schiaparelli Couture gowns. I was expecting it to be a major moment on the likes of Amy Adams or Angelina Jolie, but Tessa definitely owned it. I was more in love with Tessa on the red carpet than I was with Cate. I would love to see Tessa wear one of my favorite Spring 2018 RTW gowns with this purple Salvatore Ferragamo gown completely covered in paillettes rendered in silk and features a v-neckline, removable python strap at back, and a slight train. I want to see this gown on a red carpet, and I think that Tessa would definitely deliver it in a major way. I would add a pair of silver Giuseppe Zanotti ‘Coline’ crystal embellished sandals, sleek hair pinned behind the ears, a dark red lip, a purple smokey eye, and a pair of Chopard amethyst and diamond drop earrings to really finish this look beautifully.
While there were a gaggle of gorgeous actresses on the red carpet at the Academy Award Nominees Luncheon in Hollywood yesterday, I was most taken with how handsome that Ryan Gosling was. Ryan is nominated for Best Actor for his performance in La La Land and is always one dapper dude when he steps out on the red carpet. I think I got so excited because while he didn’t wear the whole Salvatore Ferragamo Fall 2016 Menswear suit, he did wear the blazer of the runway look that I had posted as my wish for him to wear for the La La Land photocall at the Venice Film Festival. Ryan is always one to keep an eye on for his perfectly tailored red carpet style, and this ensemble just proves why. The plaid blazer and the silver tie bar really made this an perfect red carpet turn for Ryan.
We are just 30 days out from the opening of the 2016 Venice Film Festival and I am really excited about what is too come. It is going to be non-stop glamour from start to finish. Emma Stone is going to be on hand at the Opening Ceremony to premiere her latest flick La La Land. I have high expectations for Emma since her last Venice opening ceremony gown, a gorgeous green Valentino Couture, ended up on my Best Dressed of 2014 list. For the photocall I would love to see Emma wearing this absolutely gorgeous cream Valentino Resort 2017 daisy embroidered ensemble which features a long sleeve blouse and a mini skirt. I think that this look is perfect for a daytime photocall and would compliment Emma’s red hair (if it is still red come Venice, it has changed every appearance she has made this year.) A pair of gold pumps and a red lip would really make this an absolutely beautiful red carpet moment. To follow that on the actual red carpet premiere, and opening ceremony, I would be forever (even more than I already am) in love with Emma if she brought this black and gold Elie Saab Fall 2016 Couture gown which feathers feather and bird inspired beaded embroidery. For an opening ceremony of a major film festival I would really love to see Emma bring out all the stops and I think that she would deliver this gown with such ease. Styling the look with dainty tiny diamond drop earrings, a pair of strappy gold sandals, a chic updo, and a matte red lip would really show that Emma is a red carpet glamizon. Ryan Gosling stars alongside Emma Stone in La La Land and I am just slightly less excited for him on the opening day of Venice as I am Emma (and if you cant tell I am REALLY excited about both.) Ryan knows how to wear clothes and has experimented with different styles on the red carpet. He was the first to really champion the blue and red tuxedos on the red carpet. I went with Ryan’s two go to brands for his Venice Film Festival appearances. For the La La Land photocall I picked a grey plaid Salvatore Ferragamo Fall 2016 Menswear single breasted suit. I think that the more bold plaid of this suit makes for that little bit more of a statement than a standard grey suit. Not one to usually wear a tie I would imagine that Ryan would wear this suit with a crisp white button down with the top 2 buttons undone and a pair of black lace-ups. Turning out the glamour for the films Opening Ceremony I went with the Gucci Cruise 2017 collection. You may be scratching your heads as no one should wear bleach stained jeans on the red carpet. I just want Ryan to wear the white, black ribbon trimmed tuxedo jacket from this look. I love Ryan in a dinner jacket and this would for sure be that type of look. A pair of classic Gucci black tuxedo pants, a pair of black and white oxfords, a crisp white tuxedo shirt, and a black bow tie and Ryan will have a perfect red carpet look to take the Venice Film Festival by storm to promote La La Land.I am hoping that on the red carpet at the Venice Film Festival opening ceremony premiere of La La Land that Chrissy Teigan will be on the arm of hubby John Legend, who is a member of the films cast. We will not be seeing Chrissy at the photocall, obviously since she isn’t a member of the cast, but I bet she will be playing the role of the perfect plus one on the main red carpet. This violet one shoulder Marchesa Resort 2017 Grecian gown, which features an over the shoulder drape and a fully embellished floral embroidered bodice, would be just another perfect pick for Chrissy as she walks a red carpet supporting her hubby. Finishing with a matchy match accessories including a pair of dyed to match sandals and a violet crystal embellished Marchesa clutch along with chic Veronica Lake waves, a smokey eye, and a pair of dazzling diamond drop earrings would ensure that Chrissy is one of the best plus ones on the red carpet. Rounding out this list is Gemma Arterton who will have one of the only appearances that we are confirmed she will make during the Venice Film Festival as one of the feature film jury members. I have long loved Gemma’s style and I am hoping that she will continue to blow me away in the way I have grown accustomed to. For the opening ceremony I would love to see Gemma make her first red carpet appearance wearing this shimmering black one shouldered Armani Prive Fall 2016 Couture fitted sheath gown which features a black and white striped pouf one one shoulder. I think that this gown is femme fatale with a modern twist perfect for the opening ceremony of a major film festival. A sleek bob, red lip, diamond cluster earrings, a diamond cuff bracelet, and black sandals would perfectly round this look out for Gemma to slay the Venice Film Festival red carpet.
The 2016 Venice Film Festival opens August 31, 2016 and runs through September 10, 2016.
As I said the other day I am going to start featuring more menswear in my red carpet wishes. I am uber excited that men are starting to step away from just wearing the standard black suit with a white shirt and black tie on the red carpet. Why should women have all the fun? Chris Pine is one of the best dressed men in Hollywood always stepping out on the red carpet in something that is dapper and eye catching. I am hoping that when he steps out on the red carpet at the LA premiere of Star Trek Beyond on Wednesday July 20, 2016 that Chris continues to deliver a sexy, dapper choices. I would love to see Chris take to the red carpet at this premiere wearing this deep eggplant Salvatore Ferragamo Fall 2016 Menswear single line, double breasted suit. Paired with a black button down shirt and black lace up oxfords this would be a dapper and sexy red carpet moment for Chris. Star Trek Beyond’s Spock, Zachary Quinto, has become a bit of a fashion plate. The openly gay cast member doesn’t let societies norms dictate his fashion decision enjoying relationships with edgy brands like Givenchy and Dior Homme. For the LA premiere of this film I would love to see Zachary take to the red carpet in this hot off the runway black Dior Homme Spring 2017 Menswear single breasted suit which features silver grommet details. This edgy style is perfect for Zachary as it is classic in its cut made edgy with the grommet detailing. While I would love to see Zachary wearing the black and white gingham shirt that the look was styled with on the runway, I think that selecting a crisp white one is more along the styling that Zachary would go for. The shirt buttoned all the way to the top, sans tie, and a pair of black loafers would give Zachary a really cool red carpet moment at this premiere. It was the first of the premieres for the reboot of the Star Trek franchise that made me fall in love with Zoe Saldana’s red carpet style. She was one of the first to wear Prabal Gurung on the red carpet during that tour, and I was absolutely enamored with her Pucci cocktail dress. From there her style has only continued to rise. After her pregnancy her style faltered a bit but her gorgeous sequined and feathered Dolce & Gabbana Alta Moda at the Met Gala was another major moment. I am hoping that Zoe will deliver another major moment on the red carpet at the Star Trek Beyond premiere on July 20, 2016. This white and yellow lace Giambattista Valli Spring 2016 Couture long sleeved, mini dress would be one of those magical red carpet moments I would love to see happen. Zoe has some of the best legs in Hollywood and this look would definitely make them the center of the look. Most would say just a simple pair of nude or gold sandals would finish this look perfectly, and I would be inclined to agree with them but I would love to see Zoe style this look with a pair of nude Jimmy Choo ‘Abel’ suede pointed toe pumps with white crystal embellishments to keep her shoe game 100. Finish the look with a chic bun, kohl rimmed eye, and nude lip to really send this into major moment territory.
