2021 Grammy Awards Red Carpet Wish List Part 4

I am getting very excited for what this years Grammy Awards will be. With all the possibilities from in person presenters and performers (and hopefully some winners) to looks from nominees who aren’t able to attend in person on Instagram I am ready for FASHIONS. The Grammy’s always allows for some major fashion moments we wouldn’t see on any of the film awards red carpets during award season. So I am having a lot of fun wit my wishes for the collection as well. Billie Eilish has always had a very interesting sense of style. Last awards season she rocked Chanel, Gucci, and Burberry track suit style looks for all the red carpets she walked. I don’t want to change her, so when I was looking for something for the singer who is nominated for 4 Grammy’s including Record of the Year and Song of the Year and is also performing at this years show I turned to the Valentino Spring 2021 Couture collection. I was thinking about all the cool boxier cut and layered looks from the collection and knew that I would find a great moment for Billie to wear on this red carpet and I found it in this look which features a gold embossed brocade cocoon cape inspired sleeveless hoodie (A COUTURE HOODIE), a sleeveless light but turtleneck, sand colored pleated front trousers, and matching elbow gloves. This moment is definitely the most Billie look that was show in this collection and I really want to see her rock it for the Grammy’s red carpet. According to her Instagram Billie is still rocking that horrible acid green roots thing. I don’t think that would work with this look though. Instead I would like to see Billie give us more of something like an deep ink blue instead. To finish the look I would style the moment with defined eyes, nude pink lips, and a pair of metallic gold Valentino Couture platform derbies. Cynthia Erivo is nominated for Best Song Written for Visual Media for her song “Stand Up” from Harriet. She is a consummate fashionista and so I know that had this been a regular year that she would have shown up on the Grammy’s red carpet serving a major look like she was one of the top nominated artists of the night. The fact that she is also be a part of this years post Grammy special “A Salute to the Sound of Change” would have also boded well for her being on the Grammy’s red carpet. I was going to start looking through my archives of couture runways for Cynthia, but then I saw this gold lamé button back of the shoulder peak lapel gown with an oversized drape and puffer coat backpack turned tiered train from the Paris Fashion Week presentation of the Thom Browne Fall 2021 RTW collection. There are very few stars who I think could pull a look like this off, but despite her petite frame I know that Cynthia could serve this moment up and deliver it on a red carpet and the Grammy’s would be perfect. Now for the lookbook the gown was styled with a signature black Thom Browne tuxedo on top under the gown. I would ditch that. Instead styling the gown with her signature bleached buzzed hair, smokey eyes, deep berry red glossy lips, metallic gold leather Aquazzura ‘Gin Plateau 140’ strappy platform sandals, and a statement Harry Winston white and yellow diamond collar necklace would make it a major fashion moment.Harry Style is nominated for Best Solo Pop Performance, Best Pop Album, and Best Music Video at this years Grammy Awards and I am super disappointed that the regular red carpet isn’t going to happen. Harry has been one of my men to watch on the red carpet because he isn’t afraid to blur the gender lines on the red carpet. Now that being said Harry is still performing at this years show and I hope he serves up some cool looks. I have two looks for Harry one for the red carpet and one for a performance. The red carpet look I’ve picked for Harry is a powder blue Gucci Spring 2017 Menswear shawl lapel tailcoat tuxedo which I would style a little differently than it was on the runway I would ditch the tangerine short wide tie and change the shirt. Instead I would style the look with a classic pleated tuxedo shirt, the cummerbund front he runway, a pair of navy velvet Gucci ‘New Jordaan Horsebit’ leather trimmed logo embroidered loafers, and a major white diamond and tanzanite Gucci High Jewelry heart, arrow, and floral brooch instead of a tie to really make this a cool look for Harry. For the performance, of which I don’t have any idea what it will be, I would love to see Harry hit the stage wearing this raspberry red metallic plaid silk brocade Gucci Fall 2020 Menswear 70’s inspired wide lapel suit. It is definitely something I can see Harry being drawn to and I feel like the subtle sparkle makes it a perfect stage look. Again I would switch up the styling ditching hat, shirt, and sweater from the runway in favor of a blush pink floral jacquard Gucci blouse style button down, a pair of black Gucci ‘Zahara’ silver buckle cowboy inspired ankle boots, and a Gucci ‘Hortus Delicarium’ white diamond and morganite leaf wreath and lion head necklace for a bit of sparkle. Jhene Aiko will host the Grammy Premiere ceremony, which is the party of the show that isn’t televised where they hand out all kinds of awards. In addition to that she is nominated for 3 Grammy’s herself this year including Album of the Year, Best Progressive R&B Album, & Best R&B Performance. So I am really hoping to see her deliver a superb moment on the red carpet. I went for sexy glamour inspired by Grace Jones with this black/gold sequin Rami Al Ali Spring 2021 Couture draped hooded wrap style gown with a major split in the front. I love this super glam moment and I feel like it would just ooze sexy and edgy glam, especially with tight cornrow braids, perfectly laid curled edges, defined eyes, nude glossy lips, a pair of gold and black Casadei ‘Blade Jeannie’ strappy ankle strap sandals, and a statement gold basket weave Vhernier ‘Giunco’ cuff bracelet. The last two wishes for today are for Travis Scott & Kylie Jenner. I would have loved to see the on again off again couple back on the Grammy’s red carpet together. But since he is just nominated for one Grammy this year, Best Melodic Rap Performance, I doubt we will see either of them on the red carpet either in person or virtually. If they do I would love to see them rock superb complimentary moments starting with an industrial grey Christian Dior Pre-Fall 2021 utilitarian inspired double breasted suit with a light grey turtleneck (a menswear trend this awards season), and a red silk flower boutonniere for Travis styled with a pair of black calfskin leather Dior Men ‘Dior Explorer Boot II’ oblique embossed combat boots. It’s a cool yet chic moment and I feel like it would be something that Travis would be drawn to. For Kylie I wanted glamour and sex appeal and I found it in this red one shoulder Atelier Versace Spring 2021 Couture column gown which features a structured origami petal inspired sculptural shoulder detail and a thigh high split. I am obsessed with this gown and while I wouldn’t usually waste this major moment on Kylie I know that if anyone could bring up a major IG red carpet moment it would be Kylie. Taking this gown and styling it with a sleek flip style high pony tail, defined eyes, Kylie Cosmetics ‘Lovey Dovey’ matte lips, simple red satin Versace ankle strap platform sandals, and a selection of Jacob & Co. jewels including a pair of white diamond art deco inspired chandelier earrings and a dazzling pigeon blood ruby and white diamond three row bracelet would make sure this statement look would compliment the Dior on Travis perfectly.

The 2021 Grammy Awards, hosted by Trevor Noah, will air live on CBS Sunday March 14, 2021. You can see all of my wishes for this years red carpet here.

2021 Critics Choice Awards Red Carpet Wish List Part 3

So the Golden Globes were last night and I have to say that even though I went into it with low expectations I was quite happy with what we ended up seeing. While all of the nominees, and a few of the presenters, joined the show via Zoom it still felt very normal. It has me excited for the rest of awards season. Several of the people in this set of wishes took home trophy’s last night and I cannot wait to see what they wear for the Critics Choice awards this coming weekend. Kicking things off today is Anya Taylor Joy who took home the Best Actress in a Limited Series or TV Movie award last night for her performance in The Queen’s Gambit. She did so wearing a custom emerald green vintage inspired Christian Dior Couture look. I want to see Anya take to the Critics Choice Awards where she is nominated for the same award giving us fairy glam wearing this lavender Elie Saab Spring 2021 Couture sleeveless feathered skater dress with a high neck and a dramatic chiffon cape. I so would not pick this dress for any other person for a major film/tv awards red carpet, but Anya’s sprite like elegance just spoke to me when I saw this dress. Out of any of the awards Anya is, or could be, nominated for the Critics Choice is really the only one where this dress would work. I would let the dress be the statement of this moment styling the gown with a sleek side parted updo, defined eyes, glossy nude pink lips, a pair of silver Roger Vivier ‘Marlene Strass’ ankle strap sandals, and simple halo set Norman Silverman emerald cut white diamond stud earrings. Catherine O’Hara was also a big winner last night picking up the Best Actress in a Comedy Series trophy wearing a custom rose print Vera Wang suit. Now compared to that this black and red AZ Factory Spring 2021 RTW long sleeve gown which features a drop waist, exposed zipper, and a full pleated ball skirt is like 3x as glamorous. I will say the first thing I thought when I saw this gown was that it was too similar to the custom Schiaparelli Couture gown that Lady Gaga wore for the Inauguration of President Joe Biden that it would never be worn, but when I thought of Catherine wearing this gown I thought it would be perfect. Now I really do wish that Catherine would bring a super dramatic glamour moment to life. I feel like her wearing this gown would feel perfect. Style it with a sleek updo, defined eyes, red lips, an pair of black crystal embellished mesh Sergio Rossi ‘SR1’ pointed toe pumps, and a statement sugarloaf cabochon chalcedony, hexagonal white agate hoop, carnelian plaque, brilliant-cut diamond, and 18K gold David Webb retro inspired link necklace and It would scream glamour from head to toe. Leslie Odom Jr. might not have taken home a Golden Globe last night but he served up a LOOK. His stylist Avo had him as one of the first gentleman to wear a Valentino Couture look that is pretty much hot off the runway. I won’t like and say I thought it would have been more apt for a red carpet like the Critics Choice or the SAG Awards, but it was a really freaking cool look. Now with that in mind I would love to see him keep up taking sartorial risks turning to the bad boy of menswear Thom Browne for this look for this weekends Critics Choice Awards. I love this black shrunken tuxedo paired with a crisp white shirt and black bow tie. It is basically a classic tuxedo, but done so with shrunken proportions. It’s cool and elegant. I definitely can see Leslie rocking this look and honestly the only thing I would change about the styling is swapping the plain black oxfords for a pair of black and white Thom Browne woven leather brogues. It’s been a while since we’ve seen Uzo Aduba on a red carpet. I hate that lockdown stole the promo tour from Mrs. America from us and is stealing awards season red carpets from us. I will say that after last night I am more hopeful that stars will dress up and have fun and serve glamour this awards. I have always felt that Uzo gives her best looks when she is wearing bold solid colors and so when I was looking for the perfect Critics Choice Awards gown for her I fell in love with the idea of seeing her in this fuschia silk Alberta Ferretti Resort 2021 one shoulder draped gown. It is glamorous and I just feel like it would flow over her gorgeous curves beautifully. I would take this gown and style it with a bun of braids, defined eyes, nude lips, a fuchsia crystal embellished Judith Leiber Couture ‘Slim Slide’ clutch, fuschia pink Amina Muaddi ‘Romy 95’ crystal trimmed scalloped edge pointed toe pumps, and dazzling Anabela Chan chandelier earrings in 18k rose gold vermeil with 18k gold earring posts, hand-set with an array of laboratory-grown synthesised and simulated gemstones including rubies, pink and orange sapphires with rose tourmalines to ensure that this look screams colorful glamour from head to toe for Uzo. Vanessa Kirby closes out today’s wishes. I know that Vanessa has a very simple and sleek approach to dressing, but I want her to put on some beads and crystals and really dazzle us. So I would love to see the Best Actress nominee wearing this black fully beaded Ulyana Sergeenko Spring 2021 Couture strapless bustier gown with intricate floral detail, draped hips with fringe, and a thigh high split. It is old Hollywood glamour at its best and I know that it would be an absolutely perfect moment for Vanessa to wear for a red carpet like the Critics Choice Awards. I would make this look scream glamour styling it with a sleek hairstyle tucked behind her ears, defined eyes, nude lips, a pair of strappy black Christian Louboutin ‘Tarlatarte’ PVC detailed strappy sandals, and dazzling white diamond and ruby Amwaj chandelier earrings.

The 2021 Critics Choice Awards will take place on Sunday March 7, 2021. You can find all of my wishes for this red carpet here.

2021 Palm Springs International Film Festival Black Tie Awards Red Carpet Wish List Part 2

Today’s wishes for the sadly cancelled red carpet at the 2021 Palm Springs International Film Festival Black Tie Awards Gala is all about the tuxedo. The tuxedo is such a staple, but the three below are all just a little different and stray away from the classic cut just enough to be interesting. On men and women the tuxedo is a staple and I definitely love to see a major tuxedo moment on the red carpet. So let’s see what the wishes for today are shall we?Nomadland director Chloe Zhao was given the honor of Director of the Year from the Palm Springs International Film Festival. As I’ve previously said having looked at Chloe’s style she isn’t really one to get all dolled up and dressed to the 9’s so I feel like this awards season from home is perfect for her. I would love to have seen what she would have brought to the red carpets though. In my Globes wish I went for dazzle with a Tom Ford sequined gown, but I had already picked this black Thom Brown Pre-Fall 2021 shrunken tuxedo for her to wear for this red carpet when I made that pick. This tuxedo seems like it might have been a little more authentic for Chloe and I definitely think that it would have been a cool moment for her. Now I would have styled this look with a sleek low bun, barely there makeup, and a pair of black crystal embellished Thom Browne ‘Opera’ loafers to make it perfect for this red carpet. Eddie Redmayne is part of the cast of The Trial of the Chicago 7 which is being honored with the Vanguard Award. When it comes to my own personal style icons I have several of Eddie’s past red carpet looks on my mood board, though ever since his Oscar run it’s been a lot more on the safe side. I want to see him take risks again. I want to see him wear different things again. So I decided to push the envelope a little bit with this black Alexander McQueen Fall 2020 Menswear collection tuxedo which features a blazer on a blazer jacket. The jacket is definitely very “fashion” I feel like it wouldn’t work for many of the mainstream red carpets during awards season like the Golden Globes or the Oscars, but I definitely think it would be a great option for a red carpet like the Palm Springs International Film Festival Black Tie Awards Gala. I would love this tuxedo without a bow tie and a pair of black leather Alexander McQueen logo engraved silver heel-plaque detailed oxfords. Joseph Gordon Levitt would have most likely joined Eddie, and some of his other The Trial of the Chicago 7 co-stars on the red carpet at the Palm Springs International Film Festival. I don’t know what it was about Joseph that really made me want to include him in these wishes. He isn’t one that pushes boundaries very often. I didn’t push the boundaries with my wish either opting for this navy wool & mohair Prada shawl collar one button tuxedo. It is a chic classic tuxedo moment and I feel that the color would be enough boundary pushing for Joseph Gordon Levitt. I would style this tuxedo with a classic white pleated tuxedo shirt, a black silk bow tie, a pair of black polished saffiano leather Prada lace up oxfords, and a black Prada enameled triangle logo pin with saffiano leather trim to make this an uber chic menswear moment. Now I couldn’t go a whole post without a gown. Have you met me? Or at least been a regular reader? I am a lover of glamour and gowns so of course there had to be one included in today’s wishes. Caitlin Fitzgerald is also a part of the cast of The Trial of the Chicago 7 and while the Screen Actors Guild didn’t include her in the list of cast eligible for the Best Ensemble Cast I still would have loved to see her on red carpets this awards season. She is a statuesque beauty who I feel like would deliver some uber chic moments on the red carpet. For the Palm Springs International Film Festival Black Tie Awards Gala I would have loved to see Caitlin wearing this light dove grey Marchesa Spring 2021 RTW satin halter gown which features in incredibly intricate crystal embellished neckline, open back, and a column silhouette. The gown is just simplistic glamour but that neckline really does pack a whole lot of punch. A sleek updo, defined eyes, bold red lips, a silver sequin embellished Jimmy Choo ‘Cloud’ clutch, a pair of strappy silver metallic leather Alexandre Vauthier ‘Jourdan’ crystal tassel embellished sandals, and a selection of simple Norman Silverman jewels including double halo set white diamond square stud earrings and a white diamond mixed fancy shape bracelet would make this look ooze glamour from head to toe.

2020 Met Gala Red Carpet Wish List Part 34

Today’s set of Met Gala wishes definitely is a gambit of different styles. You will find everything from cocktail to couture. Its one of the things I love about this years Met Gala red carpet. There are so many possibilities of what we could see on this red carpet. How the theme is interpreted is really endless. There are very few rules about what we will see on this red carpet and these wishes will show you exactly that. On the Marc Jacobs Fall 2020 RTW runway there were so many moments that as they came down I said would make for a perfect Met Gala fashion moment. I have already picked looks for Uma Thurman, Cynthia Erivo, Beanie Feldstein, & Sofia Coppola to wear from this collection. My final wish to see this collection on the Met Gala red carpet is for Annabelle Wallis to wear this sleeveless silver metallic lace gown which features a Babydoll silhouette, square neck, train detailed superb 60’s fashion moment. I saw this gown come down the runway knew it was a perfect moment for this years Met Gala red carpet. It would be a super chic glamorous moment and I feel like Annabelle would definitely make it a beautiful effortless glamour moment. Styled with a sleek updo, defined eyes, soft pink lips, a pair of simple yet chic silver metallic leather Aquazzura ‘First Kiss’ strappy sandals, and a statement Tiffany & Co. pendant necklace in platinum with a cushion-cut green tourmaline of over 34 carats and round brilliant diamonds I know this look would make sure Annabelle brings the glamour to this red carpet. Ralph Lauren always dresses some super glamorous women on this red carpet, but in light of the COVID-19 crisis he cancelled his fall show. So I went on a hunt in the brands archives to find the perfect looks for stars to wear on this years red carpet. I remembered this gold liquid fabric one shoulder fit for flare gown from the Ralph Lauren Fall 2016 RTW collection. It was from Ralph’s last season ahead of his transition to see now buy now. I loved this gown, but after Kate Winslet wore a custom Ralph Lauren gown in the same fabric in black for the Oscar that year it kind of got sent to the archives. It is time for this gown to come out of the archives for this years Met Gala red carpet. This look screams modern timeless glamour and I feel like it is a perfect look for Emma Roberts to bring to life on this years red carpet. She would ooze modern sophistication wearing this gown with a sleek updo, defined eyes, dark rose pink lips, a black and gold Judith Leiber Couture ‘Midnight Strikes’ clock inspired minaudiere (another nod to this years theme,) a pair of gold Casadei ‘Julia Lana’ rock crystal embellished ankle strap sandals, and even more sparkle via a pair of Sutra ‘Tassel’ collection champagne diamond drop earrings. Kiersey Clemons has delivered super chic edgy moments on the red carpet. Last year she was seated front row at the Miu Miu Spring 2020 RTW collection presentation. I was starting to think about who should wear the label on this years Met Gala red carpets, but instead of going with any of the celebrities who walked the runway for the Fall 2020 RTW show I decided that Kiersey was the perfect person to wear this black and red taffeta mini dress from that collection which features puffy sleeves, an embellished yoke, sash waist, and a bubble hem. While this is not the most obvious option for the Met Gala red carpet it is definitely super fun and a moment that hearkens back to the decadence of the 1980’s. This would definitely be one of the super fun moments of the night. A short teased afro, smokey eyes, soft pink lips, a pair of black satin Miu Miu crystal embellished platform sandals, and statement Vanleles ‘Enchanted Garden’ titanium ruby and white diamond flower cuff earrings would definitely ensure that Kiersey shuts down her first ever Met Gala red carpet. It was on the Met Gala red carpet the first Monday last may that I first learned who Lizzo was when she was the guest of Marc Jacobs. It wasn’t until a couple of red carpets later that I really started to take notice of who she really was though. Since then she has really become a major fashionista rocking looks from Atelier Versace, Mary Katrantzou, and more on the red carpet. For this years Met Gala red carpet I decided to go for the full dazzle with this silver and rose gold Givenchy Spring 2020 Couture tinsel fringe caped tiered gown. I would love to see this happen. I knew I wanted to make sure I featured Lizzo in these wishes, so I went on a hunt for the perfect gown for her to bring to life. I feel like she would OWN this look twirling and shimmying her way up the Met steps. This dazzling moment with a 60’s inspired beehive updo, smokey eyes, burgundy glossy lips, a silver Judith Leiber Couture ‘Diamond Flawless’ minaudiere, silver metallic leather Givenchy ‘Mignon’ strappy t-strap sandals, and a pair of simple white diamond Kwiat ‘Splendor’ double drop earrings would be an absolutely amazing moment for Lizzo to bring to life. For my final wish for today I once again dove into designer archives. There are certain designers I expect to see on the Met Gala red carpet. Thom Browne is one of them. When I wasn’t exactly feeling any of the looks from his Fall 2020 RTW collection I started a deep dive into his previous collections. I found this gold sequin cap sleeve pajama top meets flapper gown from the Thom Browne Fall 2014 RTW collection and it spoke to me. It definitely spoke to the theme for me and I thought it would be the perfect look for him to pull out of the archive for stars to option for this years red carpet. It was almost as quickly as I found this gown that I imagined Rose Byrne wearing it. She has the effortless glamour to bring this look to life perfectly. I would go full flapper with the glam styling this look with a 20’s inspired updo, smokey eyes, soft pink lips, a gold Swarovski crystal embellished Tyler Ellis ‘Perry’ clutch, a pair of gold Nicholas Kirkwood ‘S Specchio’ slingback sandals, and a selection of antique jewelry from Kentshire including a pair of repoussé gold day-to-night earrings from 1820 with floating garnet-set steel panels and gold kite-shaped appliqués, in 18k, a gold cuff bracelet from 1870 with three lozenge-shaped insets and wirework edging, in 15k. gold, and a bit of sparkle for the wrist via a diamond half-hoop bracelet from 1880.

PARIS FASHION WEEK FALL 2020 RTW RED CARPET WISH LIST PART 3

After today I am navigating uncharted waters. This set of wishes for looks that came down the runways of Paris Fashion Week a few weeks ago really finishes out all my immediate wishes for the Fall 2020 RTW runway season. Overall I have been really impressed and honestly sad at the thought that due to the COVID-19 crisis that many of these looks will end up lost to the archives of fashion history. Even if this list is the only place we will ever get to enjoy the idea of these looks on a red carpet then so be it. At least in this time of crisis we are able to maintain a sense of fantasy when reality is do bleak.

2020 BAFTA Awards Red Carpet Wish List

Sunday night in London the biggest names in Hollywood will descend upon the Royal Albert Hall for the 2020 BAFTA Awards. I have to say that after getting a list of the presenters I am super excited for this years red carpet. “Sustainability is very important to BAFTA, and we’re doing more than ever before,” a BAFTA spokesperson told Harper’s Bazaar. “The goal is that the EE British Academy Film Awards 2020 will be carbon neutral, working towards having a net positive impact on the environment. From travel and food, to branding and materials, BAFTA is ensuring the awards are as sustainable as possible.” That idea has pushed to the red carpet as well. The Duke & Duchess of Cambridge were asked to “dress sustainably” and quickly it went to everyone. So I decided to have fun with these wishes and do things a little differently than normal. Every look from this list is a wish for someone to re-wear something they have in the past, wear a vintage (or nouveau vintage), off the rack, archive runway, or from labels who are lauded as having sustainability as part of their core mission. Honestly I think this might be my favorite set of wishes. I raided the online vintage shop Shrimpton Couture (who has loaned out some of the best vintage for stars including Tracee Ellis Ross, Naomi Campbell, Emily Deschanel, Kate Hudson, Busy Phillips, & more) because owner and curator Cherie Balch has some of the most amazing gowns. I also found “second hand” gowns from The Real Real and 1stDibs. When it came to the re-wear’s I’ve picked it was super easy choices there as each of the looks I want to see worn again are some of the looks that I immediately think of when I think of those ladies. Overall I am really intrigued to see what will happen on this red carpet.

The 2020 BAFTA Awards will take place on Sunday February 2, 2020.

2020 Golden Globe Awards Red Carpet Wish List Part 3

This is my last set of wishes for the 2020 Golden Globe Awards. I am so excited to see what everyone is going to bring to the red carpet. As I have said the red carpets leading up to this event have been awesome and I am just ready to see everyone bring their A-game to this red carpet. The theme of this set of wishes is drama and glamour. Some of these wishes are definitely more out there than that we are used to seeing from the wearers (ie. the Valentino Haute Couture gown I’ve picked for Awkwafina, the Givenchy feathered eleganza I picked for Dakota Fanning, and the ombre Marchesa gown for Tiffany Haddish) to super dramatic moments for red carpet queens like the Azzi & Osta Couture mermaid gown I want to see on Tiffany Haddish and the major modern yet classic moment from Stephane Rolland I think that Cynthia Erivo would shut down the red carpet in, but I believe that each of these moments would turn me into the heart eyed emoji making me fall back in love with red carpets again.

2019 Venice Film Festival: “Joker” Photocall & Premiere Red Carpet Wish List

Most of the time when I am talking about a comic book movie premiere it is for a promo tour that is screening in LA or London. Todd Phillips Joker is not going to be average though. The Warner Bros. produced DC film is being run as a contender for awards season. It will be making its world premiere in competition at the 2019 Venice Film Festival. When it comes to Oscar buzz Gold Derby has Joker listed as a leading contender for a Best Actor nomination for Joaquin Phoenix, a strong contender for a Best Picture nomination, and a possible contender for a Best Supporting Actor nomination for Robert De Niro. So that means that this is definitely one of the red carpets to watch. Zazie Beetz might not have any Oscar buzz behind her performance in Joker, but she is definitely one of my ones to watch heading into the fall festival season and awards season. She has been gaining traction with her red carpet repertoire thanks to her stylist Jason Bolden. He has dressed Zazie in Thom Browne, Ralph Lauren, and Stella McCartney this year alone and I have a feeling that this promo tour is going to mean even more major looks from the rising fashionista. I love that Zazie is quirky and isn’t afraid to share that with the world on the red carpet. So I definitely kept that in mind as I was picking the perfect looks for her to wear when in Venice promoting Joker. For the films photocall I would love to see Zazie wearing this Chloe Resort 2020 ensemble which features a white ruffled short sleeve peasant blouse with a v neckline and a pair of khaki brown high waisted wide leg pants which feature a pin stripe cuff hem. It is an easy moment but incredibly chic and I think it would be perfect for a film festival photocall, especially if paired with a teased out high ponytail, natural makeup, burgundy lips, and brown Chloe ‘Rylee’ cutout and buckled ankle boots. For the premiere I decided to turn back to Thom Browne. The iconic designer dress Zazie in a “Bride-Groom” Frankenstein gown for the Met Gala earlier this year and I am just hoping that forged a relationship that will continue to build over the coming weeks and months. Thom Browne is an underutilized designer who knows how to deliver amazing fashion moments for the red carpet. I don’t utilize his designs enough both direct from the runway or as source of inspiration for custom gowns. I did however immediately think of the designer when I saw that Joker was confirmed for Venice. I turned to his Fall 2019 Menswear collection as the source of inspiration for this amazing custom gown. Thom sent patchwork gowns created of different pieces of mens suits down this runway. One in particular had a similar off the shoulder neckline paired with a white button down shirt. For this custom gown Evita took sequined black, white, and red miss matched stripes and plaids to create this off the shoulder mermaid gown which features a dramatic train. Keeping the white shirt idea going I decided that instead this look would work better with a short sleeve version for Zazie. A sleek braided bun updo, smokey eyes, fire engine red lips, a pair of black crepe satin Christian Louboutin ‘Antinorina Strass’ pointed toe asymmetrical crystal embellished strappy d’Orsay pumps, and Anita Ko ‘Ava’ diamond wreath earrings would definitely add the perfect finishing touches to this look for a Venice Film Festival premiere. Italian fashion blogger Chiara Ferragni will be debuting a documentary at this years Venice Film Festival so I am really interested in seeing what she will bring to the red carpet. Typically her style is very feminine and flirty, sometimes bohemian; always glamorous. I want to see Chiara definitely bring something super dazzling to the red carpet at this years festival. She is definitely a slave to the brand and it will honestly shock me if the head of VIP PR for Etro doesn’t grab up Chiara as one of his many lovely ladies on the festivals red carpet. Instead of something red, pink, or really anything pastel (all colors I typically associate with Chiara) I decided I wanted to go down the darker metallic route to create the perfect moment for Chiara to bring to life on this red carpet. I sent Evita some patterns and sequins from the Etro Fall 2019 RTW collection and she turned them into this amazing custom strapless gown which features a sweetheart neckline, patterns turned into beaded embroidery on the bodice, and a liquid sheath skirt that drapes into a long train that trails behind her. This gown gives major sexy mermaid vibes and I can definitely see Chiara bringing this gown to life on this red carpet. Style it with old Hollywood waves, simple defined eyes, dark antique rose pink lips, grey Jimmy Choo ‘Mimi’ strappy leather sandals, and a pair of Pomellato ‘Victoria’ pendant earrings which feature diamond-dusted clasps and elongated, jet bodies and I know that Chiara will bring her absolute a-game. As I have now mentioned every day since I started posting my Venice wishes I am hoping that jury member Stacy Martin will deliver major fashion moments on the red carpet over the course of the festival. I pulled over 80 looks both runway and custom for her to wear on the red carpets over the course of the 11 day festival. Now while I would love to see her on a red carpet every day of the festival I know that isn’t likely. I want to at least see her on five or six big red carpets over the course of the festival. As I was pulling the looks for my “closet” of options for Stacy I knew that I had to feature this black Chanel Fall 2019 RTW gown which features structured ruffled sleeves, a drop waist, a pleated skirt, and crystal embellished buttons down the bodice. It is a very chic moment while I do feel like Virginie Viard’s Chanel is just an extension of Karl’s vision for the brand I do think that this gown would be amazing on Stacy. It fits her edgy take on glamour and would be perfectly styled with a loose updo, defined eyes, red lips, a pair of black satin Roger Vivier “Bow Strass” sandals, and simple Chopard white diamond pendant drop earrings.

The 2019 Venice Film Festival will open on Wednesday August 28, 2019 and runs through Saturday September 7, 2019.

2019 Met Gala Red Carpet Wish List Part 5

Are you guys excited for the Met Gala? We are less than a month away and I know that we are in store for a major night. I want to see everyone deliver some major lewks on this red carpet. The artifice of ‘Camp’ is love of the un-normal and exaggeration. The looks we typically see on a Met Gala red carpet already fit the ‘Camp’ aesthetic as it is, no matter what the theme is, so I am really excited to see what everyone brings to life this year. Anya Taylor Joy was recently announced as the face of Viktor & Rolf’s latest fragranceFlowerbomb Midnight.” The brand is confirmed to have at least one look in the exhibit. At the Milan press conference to drum up excitement a ginormous pink tulle gown emblazoned with the phrase “Less Is More” from the Viktor & Rolf Spring 2019 Couture show was on display. As soon as I saw that I started to question if any of the other looks from this collection would be on the red carpet since they all have that same big shape emblazoned with some sort of kitschy saying. I knew I wanted to feature a gown, or cocktail look, for Anya to wear as the face of the brand on this red carpet since the label is being lauded in the exhibit and went through collections dating back almost 10 years. I had options from the over the top and weird to the glamorous and avant garde, but ultimately (after consultation with some friends) I decided that I was going to go for another look from the Viktor & Rolf Spring 2019 Couture show. This jade green trapeze gown which features pleated ruffled shoulder and a pleated ruffled hem without the “I AM MY OWN MUSE” slogan down the front would be an appropriate look to wear on this red carpet, but I think the added level of ‘Camp’ to the look is that if Anya wore this gown with the slogan as the guests of the designers and the face of their fragrance she is technically a muse for the brand. I liked that it gave this sort of double entendre moment. I would keep the rest of the look rather simple adding a pair of matching green satin Charlotte Olympia ‘Paloma’ platform pumps, a sleek low bun, thick defined eyes, punchy pink lips, and simple Cartier emerald and diamond double stud earrings to allow for the gown to literally speak for itself.Danai Gurira kinda let me down on the style front during awards season. She was one of the stars whom I was most excited to see, but I feel like I barely remember her looks. If she is invited to the Met Gala this year, and I definitely think that she is, then I want to see Danai really deliver something major on the red carpet. She has been a long time fan of one of fashion circles favorite designers Rosie Assoulin for a while now and I definitely would love to see Danai bring one of the New York based designers dramatic yet effortlessly chic creations to life on the Met Gala red carpet. It has been a hot second since Rosie has had a major a-list moment on the Met Gala carpet and I think that Danai wearing this red and aqua Rosie Assoulin Fall 2019 RTW pannier inspired ballgown which features a plunging neckline, twisted crossover straps, and a tie at the waist would deliver just that. Now the dress is beautiful and the colors alone could make it fit right in on the red carpet at this years ‘Camp’ themed gala, but I want to see Danai up the ‘Camp’ factor of this look with some wild styling. Personally I would love to see her rock a pulled back afro, smokey eyes, glossy dark red lips, a pair of aqua and red Off White c/o Virgil Abloh zip tie ankle strap pointed toe jelly pumps, and multicolor precious stone chandelier earrings from the Rihanna Loves Chopard jewelry collection to really make sure that this look perfectly balances Rosie’s more laid back approach to glamour and the over the top drama I am expecting from a ‘Camp’ themed red carpet. Gemma Chan owned awards season this year. She brought looks from Valentino, Erdem, Oscar de la Renta, and more to life on the red carpets from the Golden Globes to the Oscars. One of her chicest looks of awards season was a hot pink Valentino Couture trapeze gown with a ruffled neckline and POCKETS that she wore for the Academy Awards. It was then that I knew that Gemma had to be part of the Valentino crew for her first Met Gala appearance. I have long adored Pierpaolo Piccioli’s solo tenure at Valentino, but when I was watching the livestream of his Spring 2019 Couture show it was like I was floating on air. I was hoping for one or two major options for this years Met Gala theme, but he delivered more than I was expecting. The first look I gasped and knew immediately I was saving for a Met Gala moment was this dove grey gown which features intricate silver, periwinkle, lime, and teal floral embroideries and ruffled details. I saw this as the perfect balance of this years theme with Pierpaolo’s aesthetic. It wasn’t long after I gasped that I knew that Gemma was the perfect person to bring this gown to life. She has the statuesque elegance about her that would allow for her to be seen amongst all the drama of the embroidery and ruffles. I don’t want the wearer of this gown to get lost in the volume and I honestly believe that Gemma is the presence to really bring this gown to life on a red carpet. Pair it with a loose romantic updo, defined eyes, soft pink lips, a pair of blush and powder blue Sophia Webster ‘Chiara’ satin butterfly sandals, and some absolutely dazzling David Morris opal, paraiba tourmaline, and diamond chandelier earrings to ensure this look delivers dramatic glamour from head to toe. Pharell Williams knows how to do high fashion on the red carpet. I mean the man wore a camo tuxedo with shorts and tube socks to the Oscars, so I am expecting something major from him on the red carpet at the Met Gala. I decided to jump down the Thom Browne rabbit hole and dig into the labels archive to find the perfect look for Pharrell to rock on this red carpet. I saw this Thom Browne Spring 2017 Menswear feathered ‘Parrot’ suit which features cape wings and shorts and was immediately sold on it as a Met Gala look for this years ‘Camp’ theme. If I was going to the Met I would definitely want to wear this jacket (personally I would wear it with some fitted red pants instead of the shorts,) but since I am not going to the Met I guess that Pharrell would be the perfect person to bring this look to life on the red carpet. Now Pharrell could wear the whole head to toe runway look, Parrot head included, but I personally am not about that life. I have a bit of an issue with picking a sneaker for such a formal event, but when the red Nike Air Jordan 2 Retro ‘Legends of Summer’ sneakers are valued at almost $8,000 I think that I could let it slide. Sara Sampaio is one of my favorite models to see on the red carpet. She is a face of Armani beauty and wears quite a bit of Armani Prive on this red carpet so it was an easy choice for me to pick a look from the label to wear on this red carpet. I definitely think that this red and blue strapless tea length gown from the Armani Prive Spring 2019 Couture collection which features intricate sequined construction and fun flirty fringe meshes Sara’s very glamorous sense of style and the more edgy and over the top elements of ‘Camp’ style. Where I have gone back and forth with this look for Sara was in the styling. On the runway the dress was paired with dramatic matching fringed opera gloves and a neck ruffle. Could they translate well on Sara to the red carpet? I don’t know. I think I would just keep the gloves adding a sleek updo, winged eyes, bold red lips, a pair of metallic red Christian Louboutin ‘Jonatina’ PVC trimmed mirrored leather sandals, and Chopard Red Carpet Collection diamond and ruby wreath earrings to really keep the balance of glamour and ‘Camp’ in step for Sara. Coming off the heels of her debut collaboration collection with Tommy Hilfiger I think it is a safe bet that Zendaya will be wearing a custom gown from the designer on the red carpet at this years Met Gala. I took an amazing purple and fuchsia lurex halter jumpsuit from the Tommy Hilfiger x Zendaya Fall 2019 RTW collection and turned it into this majorly disco glam glittered lurex gown with a sweeping train for Zendaya to bring to life on this red carpet. I decided to take ‘Camp’ inspiration for Zendaya by looking to the iconic Studio 54. That is one of the spaces was where modern ‘Camp’ came to be. It was an anything goes space when it came to being who you wanted to be and so I think that it is a great place to draw inspiration for this red carpet from. I would want to see Zendaya accentuate this gown with a big full afro, thick black and purple winged lined eyes, a vintage purple ostrich feather bolero (probably held in her hand instead of over her shoulders,) silver Gianvito Rossi crystal ankle wrap metallic leather sandals, and a pair of Harry Winston amethyst, white, pink, and blue diamond art deco chandelier earrings to really deliver that major Studio 54 drama that I am expecting from a look like this.

The 2019 Met Gala will take place on the first Monday in May: May 6, 2019.

2019 Met Gala Red Carpet Wish List Part 3

Yesterday I kicked off my 2019 Met Gala wishes with two posts and started getting really excited about possibilities of what everyone will wear as they ascend those famous front steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art. This is one of the, if not the, hottest tickets of the year. With the average seat at this gala costing $30,000 per person the gala could easily raise $15,000,000 for the museum in one night. Now thanks to sponsorships and gifts that amount can end up actually equaling a lot more. I have super high expectations for exorbant drama on this red carpet this year with the theme of ‘Camp’ style. If any red carpet were to celebrate ‘Camp’ what better one would it be than the Met Gala?Anne Hathaway is a frequent flier on the red carpet at the Met Gala and I am definitely very intrigued to see what she will bring to this red carpet. This will mark the first Met Gala that she has attended though since starting to work with power styling Law Roach and I definitely think that those two can cook up a major moment for this red carpet. Anne has been part of the Valentino family for a very long time. She is actually close personal friends with Mr Valentino himself and she does wear a lot of Valentino on the red carpet. I am seriously praying that the Valentino crew on the Met Gala red carpet is huge and I definitely think that Anne should be part of the mix. While I knew that I wanted a big Valentino crew while I was watching the incredibly amazing Valentino Spring 2019 Couture show, I decided that it was this black, gold, pink, and powder blue sleeveless jacquard ballgown from the Valentino Fall 2018 Couture collection that I think would be perfect for Anne to wear on this red carpet. It is a typical Anne gown in its shape, but the intricate embroidery really makes this a major moment and I know that Anne could sell it to me. Now Law might be tempted to have Anne rock the runways floral embellished swim cap that the gown was paired with on the runway for this red carpet, but I definitely think that is a mistake. A soft chignon, defined eyes, soft pink lips, a pair of black Gianvito Rossi ‘Portofino’ leather printed PVC strap sandals, and vintage Van Cleef & Arpels 24k gold set diamond, sapphire, and turquoise cluster earrings would all add the perfect finishing touches to this look for Anne. This time last year I would have never even thought about putting Constance Wu on a wish list for the Met Gala. Then Crazy Rich Asians happened and she started working with Hollywood power stylist Micaela Erlanger and now she was one of the first people I thought of for this red carpet. I wanted to make sure I had a really great Vera Wang wish for this red carpet, but wondered that if since the Vera Wang Spring 2019 Bridal collection was already being sold and worn by brides, released a year ago, and worn by several stars (most to epic fail level) I wondered if it was really a good idea. Ultimately I decided to keep it going because this nude, yellow, and green mermaid gown which features a ruched strapless bodice, rosette detail, and a dramatic train was different enough to all the ballgowns that we have seen from this collection on the red carpet and I think that Constance could sell it to me. She is a very petite person and a lot of drama could overwhelm her and a trumpet gown not cut perfectly could make her look even shorter than she already is, but I definitely think that Vera would ensure that this is a major moment for the actress. A sleek updo, defined eyes, dark rose pink lips, a pair of blush satin Miu Miu crystal block heel platform sandals, and Chopard white diamond and emerald cluster drop earrings would definitely let the gown do the talking in this look, which is exactly what it needs to be head to toe perfection. Janelle Monae was front row at the Thom Browne Fall 2019 RTW show during Paris Fashion Week and it made me extremely hopeful that she would be rocking the designer on the red carpet at the Met Gala this year. Janelle definitely knows how to do ‘Camp’ style on the red carpet and Thom Browne is one of the campiest designers out there and I think that the two would make some major magic on this red carpet. Now while I have actually come up with a lot of custom gowns for this red carpet I wasn’t able to really come up with an idea for Janelle to wear on this red carpet, so instead I went searching the brands archives. I found this red lace ensemble which features a structured double breasted blazer, high collar bodice, and a stripe rose embroidered knee length skirt on the runway of the Thom Browne Fall 2013 RTW collection and thought it was a really chic look that I definitely think Janelle could rock on this red carpet. I think that if Janelle does wear a Thom Browne design on this red carpet that it will definitely have a lot of volume, a floral detail, and some major color and I will most likely fall in love with it. I added another camp detail to this look via a black Thom Browne ‘Crab Icon’ calfskin clutch. Finishing the look with a 40’s rockabilly style updo, defined eyes, red lips, red Christian Louboutin ‘Pijonina’ suede peep toe sculpted pumps, and a pair of simple cross hatched crystal and diamond David Webb ‘Button’ earrings would definitely make this a truly major ‘Camp’ moment for Janelle to deliver on this red carpet. Michelle Obama has never been to a Met Gala, but something tells me that this year that is going to change. The former First Lady has been on a major book tour for the last several months serving some major looks. I was thinking of who I wanted to be the date of the incomparable American couturier Zac Posen this year and thought that Michelle would be the perfect person to rock a custom design from the designer on this red carpet. She has worn a few of Zac’s designs in the past and I can just imagine what the two could do on this red carpet. I decided to go for more of a classic Zac look even though he usually does extremely well at creating a look that matches the theme of the Met Gala, but also stays true to his aesthetic. It took several different gowns to create this one custom gown for Michelle. It started with the Zac Posen sequined ruffle draped off the shoulder column gown that created the neckline, then I decided a column gown wasn’t enough so I found a structured silk faille gown with a mermaid hem. That to me still wasn’t enough drama so I decided to layer a ball skirt train over all of that (still keeping that original mermaid silhouette) to really make sure that this was an amazing moment for Michelle to bring to life on this red carpet. Now some might see the fact that I picked a blue gown for Michelle as a political statement, but I will assure it it wasn’t I just loved the shade of cobalt that the gowns were and decided to keep it as she does wear bold blue incredibly well. Add a chic updo, smokey eyes, red lips, a pair of multi-tone blue and pink Jimmy Choo ‘Travis’ glittered strappy pointed toe pumps, and simple yet chic Harry Winston white diamond cluster and sapphire teardrop earrings to ensure this look is the epitome of dramatic glamour from head to toe.Naomi Campbell knows ‘Camp.’ One could say that one of the most iconic incarnations of the ‘Camp’ aesthetic is when Naomi showed up for her last day of court ordered community service (following the infamous cell phone throwing incident) wearing a Dolce & Gabbana crystal encrusted gown. So I am expecting her to definitely serve a major look on this red carpet. It would be quite interesting to see her pull that gown out of the back of her closet, but since I am on a full Dolce & Gabbana boycott that idea didn’t even cross my mind until I was literally writing the sentence. Don’t worry because Naomi has options a plenty for things that she can wear to the Met Gala this year. Her favorite labels including Valentino, Iris Van Herpen, Dior, Azzedine Alaia, Atelier Versace, and Jean Paul Gaultier all know how to epitomize ‘Camp’ style. I could have easily picked a look from any of those labels, but I decided to go to another label incredibly close to Naomi’s heart, Alexander McQueen. Now I could have easily picked an archive McQueen design designed by Lee himself for Naomi with a dramatic shape and full skirt, but I was taken with this black tuxedo that features hot pink rosette draped leg-o-mutton satin sleeves when it came down the runway and when I was thinking who could rock it on this red carpet Naomi was the first person to come to mind. Naomi can be a little unpredictable when it comes to style of her red carpet options as I never exactly know what she will choose. The iconic super model has always worn a chic, yet typically simple gown for this red carpet so a tuxedo is definitely a bit of a departure for her. I do think however that if anyone has the potential to make it work with effortless ease it would be Naomi. Now I personally would style this suit with a sleek high ponytail, defined eyes, glossy dark red lips, a pair of black Azzedine Alaia banded suede sandals, and statement carved rubellite and diamond De Grisogono pendant drop earrings to ensure it gives equal parts supermodel ease and ‘Camp’ drama. Zoe Kravitz is a face of Saint Laurent beauty and definitely fits Anthony Vaccarello’s vibe for the brand. I was watching the Saint Laurent Fall 2019 RTW show to get ideas for custom looks for the Saint Laurent crew (which is typically a bunch of supermodels in black mini dresses) when I fell in LOVE with this black long sleeve mini dress which features sequin diagonal striping, a belted waist, and a tulle tutu hem. To me this is the perfect meshing of Anthony’s sleeker sexy style and the essence of ‘Camp’ dressing. It is a little more wow with volume than we are used to seeing Zoe wear on the red carpet, but I definitely think that she would bring a more relaxed vibe to this statement look on this red carpet. I would finish the look with a high bun of braids, soft makeup, a pair of black Saint Laurent fur detail pointed to d’orsay ankle strap pumps, and Yvan Tufenkjian ‘Stacked’ collection diamond ear jackets to make sure the look is both dramatic and effortless at the same time.

The 2019 Met Gala will take place on the first Monday in May: May 6, 2019.
