The 2021 Grammy Awards are just a week away and like all the rest of awards season are going to look very different than normal. There will be no live audience, but the performers (who are expected to be announced today) are apparently working with the shows producers to give amazing performances in and around the Staples Center in LA where the Grammy’s show is traditionally held. While details have been kept very hush hush, which is I’m sure due to the pandemic and not knowing what would be allowed far in advance, we do know who the host will be this year. Trevor Noah is hosting this year and doing it for the first time a year to the day lockdowns started. I’ve always loved to see what he will do and I am really excited to see what he will bring in terms of his dialogue and his fashion. I’ve always paid attention to Trevor Noah on the red carpet. He’s rocked some superb fashion moments over the years and for the Grammy’s I went with 4 AMAZING looks for Trevor from 4 different designers and each one would make for a major fashion moment. Kicking things off with a major “red carpet” moment I would love to see Trevor wearing this black Alexander McQueen Spring 2021 Menswear tuxedo which feature a statement draped asymmetrical white bow detail. I feel like this look is a statement choice giving us a very avant garde take on traditional white tie formal dressing and I do think that it would be a phenomenal moment for him to bring to life, especially for the Grammy’s when styled with a pair of black Christian Louboutin ‘Greggo Orlato Flat’ velvet, glittered lurex, and patent leather oxfords.
Now with all of Trevor’s fashion connections I went for all statement looks for him to wear while hosting the 2021 Grammy Awards. Starting with haute couture and this Atelier Versace Fall 2020 Couture peak lapel tuxedo which featured an intricately beaded blush to black ombre embroidery. I’ve always been excited when Versace adds menswear to it’s couture collections and always disappointed that there aren’t more stars who embrace these chic, but boundary pushing ensembles. I feel like this is definitely something that Trevor would be drawn to and I can see it come together perfectly styled exactly as it was in the lookbook.
The second look for the telecast I picked for Trevor goes back to the idea of an idea many have endured for the last year and that is chic pajamas to work from home in. I wasn’t originally in my plans as I feel we are kind of over that whole shtick at this point, but then I was flipping through the Tom Ford Fall 2021 Menswear lookbook and saw this multi-tone/pattern loungewear ensemble which features a floral robe, light blue silk button down shirt, and teal/aqua polka dot trousers. It spoke to me. I’m still working from home and it is a look that I would wear easily. I feel like even for a quick moment that this would be a fun look to speak to where we are at this moment. I would keep the look pretty much the same but swap the loafers from the lookbook for a pair of black patent leather Tom Ford ‘Midland’ grosgrain detailed loafers.
My final wish for Trevor to host the Grammy’s is this midnight blue brushstroke print Moschino Fall 2020 Menswear shawl lapel tuxedo. When it comes to mens fashion there aren’t many men in the “red carpet scene” that I feel aren’t willing to push their boundaries enough to wear Moschino, but this very classically cut tuxedo with a subtle print is one that could easily allow for some to push their boundaries. Now that being said Trevor is one that will push the boundaries out of the classic black/navy solid tuxedo box and I think that this would be a wonderful moment for him to bring to the Grammy’s stage. Now I would make this look a little more statement making swapping the combat boots from the lookbook for a pair of silver sequin embellished Dolce & Gabbana derbies to make this a super cool fashion moment head to toe.
The 2021 Grammy Awards, hosted by Trevor Noah, will air live on CBS Sunday March 14, 2021.
